Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kick like a fifty yard field goal of the Buzzer.
Lines won the toss and Golden Tate did a front
flip into the end zone. I do recall that, and
do you remember it was like a library in there
and the lines lovers were just delighted while the the
scoldiers were. It was like a library and there you
(00:22):
could hear a pin drop. So what goes around comes around.
Well done, Tenneby again, I it's it's a perfect choice.
I know, we I know we use much of the
montage music.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
A lot.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
We we we used much of it many times. But
I don't think there's a better It's too early for
when you put your heart in it. You know, you
could have actually maybe played that last week when our
backs were against the wall, but we like to save
that for special occasions. But you just got to keep
pushing on out now. I mean, just yeah, that was
the biggest win of the.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Season last year.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Last week either they had no question, especially what were
they were up against, especially this time of year, regardless
of what night they played it on, and so they
get to win. And now we've talked about this, it's
not always who you play, it's when you play them.
Three weeks ago, we would have been looking at Baltimore
and going we'd be looking our chops.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Now after night's winning against Miami and again it's only
one win in Miami's not very good. But just when
a two time MVP is back under center again and
he presents the kind of problems that he does.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
They also nobody on the injured part, yes, not just Lamar,
like their whole team.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
They had some injury issues and so they are.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
They're back again.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
So we'll do plenty of time breaking down the montage,
breaking down the Vikings and the Ravens Wild lose last night,
Gophers have a bye week, which was okay for them,
and the Minnesota Timberwolves are back in action.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
I think it's Sea Cup? Nor is it Double D Cup?
What do we call it? Commissioner's Cup? Is that what
we're starting now?
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Some kind of say Sea Cup sounds like something else?
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Yeah, well that's why, Well I thought it was. I
think they just call it Sea Cup for short. Maybe
it's Double D Cup. I don't know, but there's plenty
to get to. Let's spin the wheel of topic.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Commons golf.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Well, you know it's worth talking about today too.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
What did you shoot today? Seventy seven sunset strip? Seventy
seven sunset.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Strip where we play Loggers trail?
Speaker 3 (02:31):
Where'd you hit it on one?
Speaker 1 (02:33):
It depends the first time or the second time. It's
a long story. I started on one. It was three
over through six. Shoot her number seven?
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Great? Hold too bad?
Speaker 1 (02:43):
You got to walk down at a single file. I
hit a drive down the right side. I get up
there and I can't find the golf anywhere. There's not
even that many leaps. Well, I hit it so well.
I hit it over the hill, over, over the hills
and far away, as led Zeppelin Wan sings saying song,
it was over the cart pass short of that. You know,
(03:04):
there are those two bunkers about one hundred yards out
on either side of the fairway short of that, and
there's that large I don't even know what kind of
a tree it is. It's a monstrous tree. I think
it's a redwood, is what it is. And there's a
huge branch hanging over. So I got about ninety five
to one hundred yards and I'm blind to the pin,
and I got to hit just a little punch, and
(03:25):
I don't have to hit a low punch. I just
can't hit the ball up in the air, It'll hit
that branch. I then like I do I guess I
thought I was Joe Mauer. I did the Joe mar quickswing.
I missed the ball, missed it completely. You've got to
be kidding me. Now, Oh now I'm hitting three. I
dead shank it.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
It's gone.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
So I take a drop in four, knocking in the bunker,
in five, blade it out of the bunker in six,
back over.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
In seven eye.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
This is I'm just gonna go play nine holes and
then the sea because this is the last round of
the season. By the way, close sergate to those that
love wheel A topic, this is probably the last wheel
topic of twenty twenty five. Though we've been talking, yes,
but we've been talking about doing wheel a topic, uh podcast.
(04:16):
So what we're planning to do, boy, is is we're
gonna go back and well it's actually gonna be it's
a podcast, but it's gonna be called best of Wheel A.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Topic is what we're gonna do.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
And we're gonna put that together so that anytime you
want to go over one of commons browns from this
past year, you just be able to go to you know,
the you know, go to the iHeartRadio app, go to
our podcast page and you'll be able to find best
of Wheel a topic. So I go and I just
go out to ten, and sudden I just start playing brilliantly,
and I make the turn at at two over, and
(04:48):
I'm thinking, well, I was just planning to play nine.
And now I'm like, well, now I got to go back.
There's nobody out.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
There, so you started a ten, but now you're acting
like you started round over. Well, I did start my
roun out of ten.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
I just want you ten because there was a couple
of people teeing off, a couple of groups going off one,
so I didn't want to get behind them, so I
just I'll just drive out to ten and play from there. Well,
I play two overs and then I go to one
because there was only twenty people on the t sheetsday.
Why would people be out there plane day? Actually, right now,
it's not bad at all. It's almost fifty degrees. It's gorgeous.
There's barely any wind. It's gorgeous out there. And then
(05:20):
I go and I shoot three over on the back
and I almost let it get away. I get to nine.
You know, the ninety degree dog leg right, perfect drive.
Then I hang on to the hybrid and I watch
it kick right up into the mountains. I got to
look for it for like four or five minutes.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
I find it.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
I got one forty eight to a back right pin. No,
it's more of a middle, more of a middle pin.
Now I'm in the thick ruff and I have to go
over that water, and I'm thinking, and you know what
tend to me if it's sort of like you how
you used to feel about playing the Blackhawks. My teeth
are chattering cause I'm like, well, yeah, I mean, I
(05:55):
guess I got this shot in me. I can dig
it out of the thick rough on an uphill side.
He'll lie and try to clear the water, tuck it
in close and make make birdie.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
But then I said, no, I don't want to throw
the roundaway.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
So I just punched a pitching wedge out of the
middle of fairway, hit a sand wedge to about thirty feet,
and just two putted for my boaty. So I end
the year on a great note. This will be the
very first best of that. By the way, you have
a year responsible to that, or maybe Nordal would like
to do it, because you know how Nordal puts together.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
What's that thing we played at the end of the
day rewind? Yeah? Is that what it is?
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Fan on demand? Maybe he wouldn't mind doing that, but
it's all. It's all good.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
Someone's wondering now if maybe you should.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Have played Sad Eyes for the end of the golf season.
Maybe we can do that Monday, we can do a
double montage. I meant, are you crying right now? No, well,
you're rubbing your eye.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
I thought maybe you were getting a little misty about
the end of the golf season for commtent you just
want to move on. I'm more getting missy. I just
said this last fifteen minutes.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Yeah, well it was it.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Look, it was a really special round for me today.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
It's important for the ambassador to end on a good note.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Someone just said wheel a topic podcast.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Yes, they're excited about it.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
See see people there, there'd be a lot there that
appreciate this. So anyways, we got plenty to get to today.
We'll talk about the Bikings, other side of the rail,
of the peak at the Purple I've got some thoughts.
It was all Ducky and Bunny at the Friday football Beast.
I could tell I caught the tail end of it.
They're all hyped and jacked.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
And and well they should be, I guess.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
But we'll talk about that game, and then coming up
at one o'clock, it's a little beef Emine touch of
the program.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
She'll be here for two segments and then.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
H Parker Fox and Meat Sauce will we'll be here
for program password that's at one thirty. That and so
much more here on the Common Man Program.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
I'm a fan.
Speaker 4 (08:07):

Oh yes, Messic Lake. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
And what time will that be? Oh, that'll be at
noon when the vikings start.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
By the way, a lot of people are reacting to
the announcement that we just made a major programming announcement
that Wheel of Topic podcast Best of Wheel a Topic would.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Be coming to fan on demand soon. And this one says,
I was.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
Thinking that along with the podcast, perhaps you'd consider compiling
the transcripts of all the Wheel of.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Topics and putting them into book form.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Having a beautiful hardcover book containing all the transcripts would
be a book nearly every lever of literature.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
Would be happy to add to their library.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
I think that's not a half bad idea, you know,
because for those that you know do.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Like to read, take their time go over it.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
Sometimes they tend to talk a little fast when I'm
recapping my round, So that's probably not a bad idea.
This one says, tend to be when are you going
to produce and release that first podcast, the best to
wheel a Topic. Here's another says last Wheel of Topic,
and all I really want to know is what do
you hit for your second shot at eighteen See this
(09:53):
is what the fan, this is what the listeners want,
they demanded. And then of course there's this one that
says common wheel of topic on collectible CD box set.
That's a possibility to It makes a great gift giving idea.
So we'll be working on that. Talbra Peak at the
Purple brought to by our friends at Affordable Electric. Affordable
(10:13):
Dash Electric is the place to go for all of
your electrical needs. Affordable Dash Electric. And remember affordable Electric
is in shockingly affordable. It hitches me off guard every
single time I was looking at the Fisher rap Factory
west Side. Ben Gesling does a terrific job covering the
Vikings and on Fridays they always do a.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
Vikings Ravings Ravens preview artist.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
That's always Vikings Ravens whoever they're playing, it's always a
preview with the game.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
And the question he puts that he.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
Asks in the headline, I think is the most pertinent
one in Minnesota has revived defense slow Lamar Jackson and
Derrick Henry. The Vikings return home full of energy after
their upset of the line to face a Baltimore team
ready to bully them in the trenches. And you know
that is a strength right of Baltimore. I mean, they're
able to run the ball, pass the ball. Offensively, they're
(11:09):
very good. Lamar Jackson is I believe one hundred percent
he's playing. Yeah, and as you mentioned too, nobody on
the injury list. So we talk about about overreactions. It
did look like Baltimore was dead and buried, right were
they one in five at one point?
Speaker 2 (11:27):
And now they're three and five.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
So again it's not as though they're sitting on top
of the AFC North, but starting to get their mojo
back a little bit. And you know that that division,
the Bungles are basically done, right and the Browns are done.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
It's Browns and Bungles, right.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
So the only team they're really a battle in there
is Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh formatable and that's a nice record,
but and it there's wild card spots, so.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
You know the vikings did.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
I do think the Lions came in pretty high in themselves.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
After the way they played an.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Almost flawless game against Tampa Bay. I thought, I mean,
you know, again, you know, the offense isn't humming at
the clip it has the past couple of years off
of Ben Johnson, but there are still scoring points.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
They still have skilled players. Their offensive line.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
Got beat up in the Bikings game, but I think
the Vikings were caught off guard. The I don't know
how much stock we put into the captain's speeches, if
you remember the head coach said on that for Saturday
night before the game, all the all of the captains
gave their little I don't know, you know, five to
ten minute, you know, win one for the gipper kind
of a thing. You know, this is our culture, this
(12:38):
is what we've done. JJ McCarthy or nine, and we
like to call him or leister, call himself his alter ego.
He said he was ready to play the.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
Game that night.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
The thing that's most impressive to me, though, the reason
I like where the Bikings are at right now Tennebee,
is because they've adopted Paul Allen's love covenant. Because JJ
said it you in the sound bite. It was the
second sound bite of the montage. He said, we all
love each other, every one of them, not just the players,
equipment managers, concessionaires, ticket takers, carn rosie pa everybody that's
(13:16):
involved in that organization loves each other and when you
love each other, love can conquer alt Oh, I think
we're in a pretty good spot right now.
Speaker 5 (13:25):
No, this team is so talented, but the most important
thing is we love each other. You know, every single
one of us, coaches, players, staff, we have this tight
bond that you know is something very hard to achieve
and you can't buy. And you know, it's just one
of those things where you know it's gonna click and
we're gonna peak at some point, but we're not there yet,
and you know, we're just focusing on our process and
trying to strive for perfection every single day.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
He said that law that love coming to something you
can't buy. I just thought of a song, can't.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Buy me love? Everybody tells me, so what can't buy
me love? Of No?
Speaker 1 (13:59):
No, no, no no, Say you don't get me a
big game ring and I'll be satisfied.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
I think I think there's potential there.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
We need to get one of our, one of our
We have so many musicians in the Tough Love covenent.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
Like we've had less lately. Yeah, we have.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
I did send you the uh did you get.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
From a decade ago?
Speaker 1 (14:24):
Was that real?
Speaker 3 (14:24):
If you looked at the date on the YouTube. Oh
we can still play it.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
Yeah, I thought it was brand new. Well, yeah it was.
I I guess I forgot about it.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
There was there was There was an old folk.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Song called five hundred miles, and then we turned it
into five hundred pounds. The horse lost five hundred pounds. Well,
I'm sorry, I thought it was brand new. You're right,
we haven't had a lot.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
Eleven years ago. Let me a ukulele go, then, why
isn't lend me a tenor kle? I thought he came.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
I thought he you know, you know how an artist
will like seemingly disappear and they won't tour. They won't
they they won't put out any any any music at all.
I thought he was making his triumphant return. You know,
it had had you know, wandered off for a while
and semi retired, became a recluse, and all of a
sudden he was gonna come back with him. Because we've
got Murph, We've got Lava Bloom Gal, we've got Consolation Champ. Guy,
(15:22):
lend me a tenor ukulele Guy, Tom Hips, he does
the common man, common man. There's so many great musicians
in the tough upcoming very so it's all good stuff.
Ravens by four and a half. Rosen was outraged by it.
(15:43):
He thought would just be that home. I don't know
if he said he thought should at least be a
Pickham game. I guess you know in tenby you understand
the odds better than me. Isn't the odds just intended
by Las Vegas to get people to bet, and then
the more isn't the more money that's bet on a
team that changes the odds. It's not just them. They
(16:04):
set a line, but then the betting changes the line.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
Is that correct? It can change it?
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (16:08):
Yeah, okay, yeah, So you know the Ravens Vikings line
last I saw was Ravens minus four. Let's say that's
where they started it at, and a bunch of people
started putting money on the Minnesota Vikings on the spread
that minus four could become minus two.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Okay, so right now, what I see in Guessling's piece
is Ravens by four and a half four and a half.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
I've never been much of I don't gamble, you know,
I mean I have.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
I've told you the tales of being at the sports
book when I'm in Las Vegas the very rare times
i'm in Vegas. I'm not a big bet on games
kind of a guy, but I never take I guess
I was betting money. I would take the odds into consideration,
but when we're just talking about a game, I don't
look at it and go Ravens four and a half. Yeah,
that doesn't matter to me because the odds don't have
(16:57):
any effect on the outcome of the game.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
I hope you put it this way, tenn Toby.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
I hope it wasn't a one off for the Purple
against Detroit that you know they did. They win one
for the Gipper's speeches McCarthy came back Detroit was I think,
really they were kind of fat and happy.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
You talk about fat cats get slaughtered.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
I think the kiddies were fat, fat and happy because
then they had the bye week as well. I've brought
up a couple of times where the coach had these comments.
Campbell was talking about, Yeah, we just kind of takeing
a screw here. We're really close, you know, almost as
if we're about to peek here and watch out the
rest of the league. We're gonna be biting knee caps
and if you're looking for us, I just look at
your front porch.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
We'll be there for it.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
While the Vikings had a surprise from Lines almost stole
it late.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
But I don't know.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
I think it.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
I think it'll be a close game. Most NFL games
are unless it's a mismatch. So but you'll hear it
on this radio station. Our coverage will begin a Sunday
at ten o'clock to kickoff. That will be shortly after
twelve noon short break.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
Come back with more.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
Pick at the purple brought to you by a four
electric affordable dash Electric for all of your electrical needs.
You can trust affordable Electric. Short break, come back with
more than kind of a problem.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
I'm a fan.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
It's a Purple Friday on KFN, and we're taking your
talkbacks for tickets all day. Finish this sentence using the
talkback feature in the iHeart Radio app, Vikings Fans, The
Vikings will beat the Ravens because best answers will win
a pair of tickets a Sunday's game against Baltimore. Get
the full details right now at KFN dot com, keyboard contest.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
And skull Vikings.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
How about could you read that and then I'll answer
just the yeah, you read the question, and then I'll
fill it in.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
The Vikings will beat the Ravens because with.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
The government shut down in ten percent of flights being canceled,
the Ravens won't make it to Minneapo Sat.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
Paul, you're in a national airport this weekend.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
Ah, you know what, I was just kidding. I think
you gonna win.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
I can't guarantee you this team, it's ten to be
one team who's base color is purple is gonna win
that game. Shouldn't thank you? I thought you would say that.
You know you heard nine say they have something different
at the new Winter PARKATISA Performance Center. They love each other.
Maybe the wild needed so they must not love each other.
(19:25):
What happened again? Like Tim, that's two kind of weird
losses in a row. No, the other was a win.
I'm sorry they had a weird win where they they
all they are blew the game. With point three seconds
to go, they give up the time goal, it goes
to ot. Then they get awarded a goal with a
puck that didn't even get into the net because it
was ruled by the officials that they think the goaltender
(19:48):
was he was playing around there at tend to be
he was. He was pretending he didn't do it, but
he knocked the goal off its moorings, and they wore the.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
Wild of goal.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
A last night. Every time the Wild scored, Carolina scored.
Is that correct?
Speaker 3 (20:10):
Is that kind of how? Basically? Yes, as a matter
of fact.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
It says in the Fisher Rep Factory West Side.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
Sarah McClellan, who writes for the Fisher Rep Factory West Side, says.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Carolina retaliated after every Wild goal, including scoring twice during
a three goal fifty two second blitz for both teams
in a hectic first period in which the wilds Tyler
Pittlick was ejected.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
Was he being a naughty boy?
Speaker 3 (20:35):
He had?
Speaker 4 (20:36):
He had a big hit that they ruled, you know,
he kind of went shoulder into the guy's head.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
Is the no.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
No, is that though he's not getting suspensed for it. No,
they already ruled on that already.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
That the league looks.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
At those right and then makes a decision. Is that
how that works?
Speaker 4 (20:55):
And I will say with this one, he got him
in the head, but I think it was just I
don't know if there was intent there, right, It's not
like he like Lunch launched up or was specifically targeting
the head. I think it was just a matter of
you're trying to put a hard hit on a guy
and you haven't hit him in the head.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
It's I'm kind of waiting for that while to catch
a spark. And they did win two in a row, right,
and didn't they They win too in a row. They did, yes,
one to in a row. They had multiple leads last night,
and had multiple leads well to of the goals as
you mentioned, So they were up one, nothing becomes one
to one. Then they scored and make a two to
(21:38):
one on the favor goal. Carolina scored twenty one seconds
right after it to tie the game. Carolina's up three
to two. Matt Boldy scores in the second period just
thirty seven seconds into the period. Nine seconds later Carolina
scored to regain the lead. So twice within you know,
the next ten to twenty seconds, what you had just
(22:01):
accomplished was immediately evaporated.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
And it's a.
Speaker 4 (22:05):
Combination of some defensive issues. You know, two of the
goals Carolina had last night were you know, one is
basically like a one on four where the forwards are
doing very little to slow them through the neutral zone,
and then your defensemen, expecting your forwards to slow them
in the nuture zone are kind of get caught flat footed.
(22:27):
And then they had a second goal too on the
power play when which was basically like a one on
three just on the rush. Wild has all the numbers
there and are just not making a play. And you know,
we also need to talk about the goaltending. You know,
when when Gustuson signed his contract extension, you kind of
asked me about him, like, Eh, I don't know how
(22:48):
to I don't know how to feel about him. He's
definitely had some good moments in his Wild run, and
I get it, you got a young guy behind him,
and you're not super confident off of the season he
had last year that he was going to be the guy.
But Gustuson has not been good this year and he
was shaky again last night one or two of those goals.
(23:09):
I'm sorry, and NHL goalie needs to stop. And I'm
not gonna act like he's got a great team in
front of him. I get there's there's other flaws. There's
other issues defensively. I mean, Brodein and Favor had an awful.
We're an awful mess on that first goal last night,
which Brodin loses the puck and then Favor turns it over.
So I'm not gonna act like there's perfection in front
(23:29):
of these goals.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
Be your goal.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
He's got to make some saves every once in a while.
And you know, there was one that was kind of
a soft shot from the point, and sure, I'm sure
Favor gave you a quick screen for a little bit,
but you got to stop that. And the one on
the rush that he gave up, which was beyond the
top of the circle. NHL goalies need to stop that.
So at some point, not that Valstad's been great, but
(23:53):
the coaching staff so far in this season, it's almost
like they've been playing gustuson as if what we don't
want to rattle the cages with him. There hasn't been
a game where I don't he hasn't been polled in
the game, and he's had multiple chances where he could
be pulled in the middle of games just kind of
send a message. They're still treating him as an A
and Ball said as a B. I don't know from
what I've seen through November seventh, I'd start giving ball
(24:16):
said some more looks until Augustafson proves he's out of
his funk because he's he has not been good enough
right now and the team in front of him is
not good enough to be able to overcome right right,
bad goaltending.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
Well, there might be others that agree with you as
far as this doesn't necessarily have to do with the goaltending.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
But my sources tell me ESPN in.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
Their Hockey Power rankings, Wild there twenty nine, yeah, twenty nine?
Are there even twenty nine teams in the league? Now
there's thirty two, thirty two? What what three teams are
below the Wild for crying out, Yeah, that's not.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
A goa yea the Wild right now, there's only two
teams in the Western Conference that are behind them.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
That would be the Sameless Blues in the Calgary Flames.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
We the Wild right now have the third third least
points in the entire National Hockey League.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
So we always.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
Like to hope or like to think that our local
teams are quality clubs, and you know that they cannot.
They can van haling at one need, they can turn
this thing around right now, right But sometimes we've seen
it here in this city and every other major metropolitan
area that has professional sports. Sometimes, as hole Band said,
(25:43):
sometimes it doesn't work. Guys are a trainer, you on
the line, and.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
As you say, you know, we're here. We are in November.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
What is it, ninth seventh, number seventh, November seventh. How
many games do we have?
Speaker 3 (25:56):
Have we played so far? Fifteen? They played fifteen fifty games.
Speaker 4 (26:01):
And kind of the mantra in the National Hockey League
is once you get to Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Yeah, yeah, you mentioned that yesterday.
Speaker 4 (26:06):
Like that's when, Well, I didn't mention that yesterory, but
I've mentioned that in previous years.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
Okay, maybe that was Rose and that stole that from.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
That's kind of a cliche NHL talk. So I'm sure
Russo brought it up and he heard where you got it. Okay,
But typically once you hit Thanksgiving, like now, we know
how legit you are, and it's a lot of that
usually holds up.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
So we need to turn this thing around right now
if we want it, because Thanksgiving us right around the
corner a couple three weeks out, you know, and the
only thing you know, I you know, far be it
from me to be ducky in money. This is the
tough love covenant. The only thing I guess I could
say is well, if it's another lost season, the only
thing they have going for them is hey, And I
(26:49):
know people are tired of hearing the suitor pere eazy thing.
And then once the suitor preezy thing went away. We
had all this money we were going to spend the
free agents. But as you brought up and others that
you know are following the league a lot more closely
than I do, the best free agents that were that
were available, most of them re signed with the teams
they were with. And so as you brought and I
(27:09):
know you did bring this up yesterday, they didn't just
spend money to spend money. I think sometimes fans just
want to see that. But yeah, if if if, if,
it's like.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
If you go, I think Garret knows he needs a
big fish. Yeah, Like you can't just go out and
get a bunch of medium sized fish and that's going
to help you out. He needs to go get a
big one. And the big ones were not available this summer.
Speaker 1 (27:30):
Have you ever bought produce at a grocery store Tennabee
and you're you're you know, that's a terrible question for you.
Your wife probably does. But you go through the produce
section and let's say you're looking at the let's say
you're gonna buy some iceberg lettuce and you go there and.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
It's been picked over and there's really you look.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
At it and go, I think I'll just pass on
the iceberg lettuce today just.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
To look very good.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
Or you know, I go get bananas, bananas. I think
about the color of the bananas. They're a little too brown.
I don't want those bananas.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
And then if they're too green, you're thinking, well, I
want bananas tomorrow. Correct, and yes, we have no bananas.
We have no bananas do day. And so then you
just go, well, I'll just wait on it. And maybe
that's what the water just going to have to do.
Maybe we just have to come to grips, and we
hate to do it, especially on the Wild Audio Network.
We might just have to come to grips that it
ain't happening this year. Now, we got a couple more
(28:20):
weeks before Thanksgiving. So I'll keep my fingers crossed and
I'll I'll try to I'll try to stay.
Speaker 4 (28:26):
You know, the problem is the worst they play and
the further out they are the less of a desirable
it's going to be for a big fish to come
here right like, so before this trade deadline, not even
necessarily be buyers at this point at the rate they're going.
If they are at this spot and the standings come February,
(28:46):
you're not You're not going to go out and buy
anyway because you have no playoff run to go through.
And then you get the free agency, and how many
of those big fish that might potentially be available at
that time are going to want to come here if
they just had a bad season. So there is a
sense of urgency. We don't have to I mean this,
given what you just paid Caprice off like, you can't
(29:06):
just do busted down to the studs and let's do
a rebuild here like the future is now. Unfortunately now
does not look good right now.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
Let me ask you a question. Are you familiar with
the player named Gavin McKenna. Yes, generational? Is that That's
what I've been told generation I don't. I don't know
his game very well. Okay, I've been told by people.
I trust he's a generational prospect. Now, prospects are our
(29:38):
suspects until they're until they're cleared by the forty.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
I don't like that.
Speaker 4 (29:43):
November seventh, we're already talking about taking a generational prospect
in the draft. He's Canadian, is he not? I remember him?
Like he's dominated guys that are older than you.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
Who's the other Russian that we're counting on. Well, he's
even in lineup right now?
Speaker 1 (30:01):
You're off, So Caprice off, year, off McKenna, let's go.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
I'm all for tanking. Maybe that's the way to go.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
You tank, you get the number one pick, you get McKenna,
and then you got some salary cap space.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
Yeah, yeah, let's go. Hey, Tage Thompson, you want to
come over here.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
Maybe that's what they're doing, and they're just protecting. Maybe
that's why they're playing, and they're telling the goaltender just
don't play well, just let some pucks go in. Well,
mission accomplished and there, and they're making it look good,
you know, like like brock Favor just fumbling the pucker
on them.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
And I've never seen this before. I gotta like it.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
And what's worse is they're losing, and like eu Rob's
not even in the lineup anymore, so then they're not
even playing.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Ogre and is back in Iowa.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
EUROB has been in the press box because they're playing
uh Pittlick and Jones on their fourth line. So we're
bad and we're not even developing young guys other than Buoyam.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
Again, someone says, I, well, I guess I don't even
read this. He said, I thought that prec and suitor
deals were over, we'd be much better.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
What happened to that theory? But we just talked about it.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
They have the money, but they're not They didn't spend
it yet. They don't want to spend it yet.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
Because the high profile free agents, the guys that are
impact players, most of them signed with the team they
were with. And you can sign when you sign with
the team you're with, you can sign for more money
and for more years, right, is that true? In all
caseses one more year. Yeah, that's why I could resolve,
not necessarily more money, but more years, more years. So,
and it's not just free agency where the money can
(31:39):
be spent, right, it's there are guys that you can
trade for that in previous years you haven't been able
to trade for because you didn't have the salary cap
space to have money your roster or you know, you
basically would have to trade salary for salary to bring
that player in, Whereas now, no, this team might not
(31:59):
be worth acquiring a guy for at this current moment,
but at some point before the trade deadline, if this
team were to improve and be in a playoff position,
now you can go out and get a guy that
is a big dollar amount guy, because they're gonna have
the space to do it just via trade switching gears,
changing directions here before we break for the top of
(32:21):
the hour and bring.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
Smoke show Smokeser from Glencoe to It'll be the Feminine touch.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
Headline fisher at Factory westid Levelly Neil the third wrote
this piece. Twins cut five players, including Jose Miranda. And
the reason I bring it up is because you've heard
me talk about this off over the years where they
pull that pocket protectors those in the media that they're
(32:51):
ball guys. They like the Twins, they want the Twins
to play well, and they almost become part of the
pr department over there, and they talk about what a
wonderful farm system we have and all the great prospects
we have, and we've have all these young players where
we have a deep and talented organization, pharmacism and a
(33:13):
deep in talented roster. Jose Miranda was one of those
guys for a long time. He was supposed to be
a main stay on this club, and he had his moments.
Speaker 2 (33:23):
You know, I was reading in Labelle's piece.
Speaker 1 (33:29):
It says Miranda show great promise in his rookie season
of twenty twenty two, and he was called it from
Saint Paul.
Speaker 3 (33:35):
Hit two fifty eight with something like.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
Sixteen home runs to earn a spot in the starting
line for twenty twenty three, but shoulder surgery scrapped that
year before he rebounded at the start of the twenty
twenty four season and title Major to the record by
getting twelve gett he hits in twelve consecutive at bats.
He slump near the end of twenty twenty four, however,
and that slump spilled into twenty twenty five, when he
(33:59):
hit one sixty seven and twelve games. At the start
of the season, the Twins sent him to Class Triple
A Saint Paul, where he hit only one ninety five
with seven home runs in ninety games.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
Didn't get recalled even after the July thirty one trade
deadline purge that saw ten major leaguers dealt away. In
two hundred ninety eight games the Twins, Randa had twenty
eight home runs in an ops of seven nineteen.
Speaker 1 (34:25):
And I don't know if that's good or bad. I
do know this, it's it's it's why I again, let's
go back to the prospects or suspects until they have
an alibi or they're cleared by authorities. And this Miranda
is the latest example. Even Royce Lewis, right, I mean,
(34:48):
they're certainly not giving up on Royce Lewis, and I
wouldn't either. But if you'll remember, he was at one
time not just the number one prospect in the Twins organization.
But if I'm not mistaken, if I were, if I
recollect correctly, unless I misremembery, he was the top prospect
in all of Major League Baseball, and he got off
to a great start when he was here, and he
(35:08):
had some injury problems. Several times he's been injury riddled.
He's been almost Byron Buxton, you know, two point zero,
and and then and then he he had two extended slumps.
If you remember this past year, it saying to me,
there was that list that the media published of longest
(35:29):
hitless streaks and twins history, and.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
Lewis has got two of them.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
He's in there twice, like oh for thirty and oh
for forty or whatever those numbers were. Those might be
too many. I don't I don't recall the exact numbers,
but and I and you know, you don't give up
on Lewis for sure, but it just goes to show
you this was a guy that was we were really
going to count on and be a mainstay. And you know,
part of the reason the team didn't play as well.
They had that thirteen game winning streak and all seemed
(35:55):
to be right with the world again, and then they
went in the tank again and a lot of it
to do because they weren't getting any any helped from Lewis.
The one guy that seemed to be the constant was Buxton,
and they had a couple of the other young guys
but had their flashes.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
You know, they play well for a.
Speaker 1 (36:09):
Few games and then they wouldn't. And the Pigeon staff
was pretty good. But so my point.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
Is is.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
Just because don't always count on the The other thing
you've heard me say a million times is if a
team has six everyday players that.
Speaker 2 (36:29):
Are you know, and they all have really good years.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
It's always they try to extrapolate it out to pull
that pocket protectors, that would how these guys are just
going to get better. Well, they don't always get better,
and Miranda is proof positive, Lewis so far is proof positive.
Sometimes they don't get any better, and so that's one.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
Even if they do, the Twins might not pay to retainment. Well,
that's it. That's that's the problem. We should be very
excited about having Joe Ryan on our team and as
possible next year. Within two years he's gone, yeah, and
he's performing.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
Here's a text that says, I am in no way
defending poll that pocket protectors. But the Twins do have
a lot of good prospects and have had a lot
of good prospects, and well, my issue is with the
team is that almost every one of them when they
get to the majors, has a huge setback in their development.
I think our last coaching staff did a terrible job
at keeping the development going once they reached the majors.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
Maybe that's true, that could be part of it.
Speaker 1 (37:21):
As a matter of fact, part of the emphasis with
the Shelton characters they want to develop players. That's what
they want to do. I do think there was conversations
and again it's everybody's got to.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
Have a fall guy.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
Chris Carter said it, and so maybe that's the fall guys. Well,
bald DELI he doesn't know how to develop players.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
Really, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (37:40):
Sometimes it's on the players too, right, I mean, how
much do we depend on I don't know. Maybe that
will be the case. Maybe Shelton will be good at
developing players. Maybe other people in the organization. I mean,
didn't we have didn't our hitting coach get fired and
then he.
Speaker 3 (37:59):
Was hired by with the Toronto.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
I think he was hired by either Toronto or Millewaukee
with some team hired our guy and.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
He took the team deep into the postseason.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
So is it really the coaches.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
Developing players or is it I don't know.
Speaker 1 (38:16):
Bud.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
Was there a time when Timabee was the biggest.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
Prospect that Caffe Hanna, who would that be?
Speaker 3 (38:26):
Now?
Speaker 2 (38:26):
High energy Helvy? Then he said maybe it.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
Is high energy Helby high energy, Yes, definitely, If high
energy Helvy is our top prospect, I think we're in
some trouble here. I shouldn't say that I think high
energy Halby does a great job.
Speaker 4 (38:41):
We're kind of like the Vikings were a very old
aging team with not a lot of good prospects in
the system.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Wow. That's sobering, but you know what it's it's probably
the truest thing you've ever said. It's the truest thing
you ever speaks back spoked. But speaking of young fun
hip out with it. Wow, she's next the Smoke Show
from glen Coe. Fantab for the program will be joins
us neat share in the Fam
