Speaker 1 (00:00):
Bad common man, common man, don't show pet no solid plan,
so they aren't. We can't adel be severit. Aproach will
fail to in. It's time for common man. Man, common man,
charge the houseless. I go U can you shoot?

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Where we play's announces I'm back to day tout man.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
It's time for common man. You've got to be kidding me.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Why should anybody aspire to be a common man? An
average man? Do you realize what it means to be average?
That means you're the best of the lousiest and the
lousiest of the best. Now, if we demand more and
more for producing less and less while they have not
nations and courage and inspire and indeed require hard work
and maximum effort, If we deify the common man while

(00:56):
they encourage and reward the uncommon ones, the end result
of such a lopsided race as that is too obvious
to require elaboration.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
I mean, it's like, Hello, that's a bunch of Milworkee, calm.

Speaker 5 (01:21):
And Bayton Manny takes an eve for the third straight time,
and that's the good twel it's the final score the
Super Bowl forty one the Colts twenty nine the Bears
seventeen and look at the pandemon here from the Indianapolis sideline.
Down here in Miami, Bolt's stilling onto the field. Oh
there we go the gatorade math for Coats Tony Doneye

(01:42):
and it's Mike.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Dass supplying the data. Ray Maath.

Speaker 5 (01:45):
Good to hear from Mike Boss tonight, as the Colts
are your Super Bowl Party one champions.

Speaker 6 (01:55):
I think we got I think we have a very
good mix right now. I mean the Morning Show does
well comparatively speaking, especially given when it has to go
against Douber's and I have done well knocking win for
four years. Common and Hartman have done o camboy in
my estimation, the primetime player on our station, and cultivating
a couple of kids in Sludgeon Lake. And you know
we have the Vikings and maybe some things down the road.
So I think we're strong right now.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
What do you think about kids? I'm an limited mister,
un limited upset alert.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Right.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
We're happy for you. Yeah, but speculation start up for field,
start up. A dog with a note in his mouth
should be able to sell those with a fraud.

Speaker 7 (03:08):
Yes, he's the clown from Brown, He's the fourth in
the North this is the common Man, Dan Cole.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
There's nothing that annoys me more than on my microphone
or my headset. Cord gets tangled up. No, and I'm
struggling to get it untangled before the show starts. Has
it been in someone's mouth before it got tangled? It's
not that, It's not this is I have my illness.
There's nothing in here that I don't hose down with

(03:59):
LIKESO don't know where PA has been speaking of that?
Can you play that sonamite again? You play that? I
think just to get me going. The one from Rose
and Sports Sunday one on one, Pa Common and Mike Morris.
The three of us were guess on the Mike Morris
Show and uh Mark Rosen asked, Pa, what about you
know the the where the fan was at that moment

(04:22):
in time?

Speaker 4 (04:23):
I think we got.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
I think we have a very good mix right now.

Speaker 6 (04:26):
I mean the Morning Show does well comparatively speaking, especially
given when it has to go against doers and I
have done well.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
After this and Hartman have done Okay, I think we got.
I think we have a very good mix right now.

Speaker 6 (04:40):
Show does well comparatively speaking, especially given when it has
to go against Dober's and I have done well.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
Knock on win for four years, Common and and Hartman
have done okay and mhm, he and Dubers have done well.
Common and Heartment have done okay, okay, Yeah, we've been
on you know you you're just there to fill time.
We're just apparently the two of us were just like

(05:09):
the bridge between temporary layoff to permanent payoff and bumper
to bumper. If it wasn't for Barrero, Hartman and Common,
there would have been no PA, or to be, there'd
be no PA. Right now, he'd be calling horse races
at Talladega for a Libys because the station wouldn't exist

(05:33):
if it wasn't for Barrero, Hartman and Common. I know
I've I've done this rant before, but it's a throw
in the towel Thursday. So I feel like I need
to be and I don't like to be repetitive or
talk about myself, but I'm going to make an exception there.
But there's plenty to get to today. You ever get
an invitation that says RSVP and then like clothing optional, No,

(06:00):
I have not. Last night, the Wolves got an invitation
to Madison Square Garden that said please RSVP defense optional,
and the Wolves took that seriously. Again. We have a
new nickname for JJ McCarthy, Number nine, Number nine, number nine,
Minnesota Wild. Are they back in action, by the way

(06:22):
tonight Carolina? They're back in action tonight against Carolina. With
all those topics to get you, I don't know where
to begin. Let's spin the wheel a top Commons golf games.

(06:43):
I played today, So I shot another seventy eight. Where'd
we played? I played at Oakmarsh? Where'd you hit it on?

Speaker 4 (06:51):
One?

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Right up the gut? Second shot, I hit another wonderful
hybrid or left? It was a little right from the green? Oh,
I had a wedge in my hand. Then what I
knocked it onto about thirty feet? Then what left it
four feet short? Then what made it? And then I
three putted the next two greens from thirty feet? And

(07:13):
so here's my excuse, computer.

Speaker 6 (07:16):
I had.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
I didn't putt very well today, yet I scored. But
the reason I didn't put very well today is you
were Why don't you fire up the excuse computer? You're right,
Let's enter these statistics. Played at Oak Marsh, shot at

(07:37):
seventy eight, went forty thirty eight, finished par par par
par stick that into the excuse computer and let's have
it run some Anoka Guy Lake Wobegone Baseball guy and

(08:10):
Larry Mondela guy or we're living rent free. In my
head today, all I could think about was them nominating
me for PST because I said I'm putting well, but
nothing went in. So then I started thinking, well, maybe
I'm not putting well, nothing's going in, and then I started,
I mean, I was just awful on the front side putty.
I mean literally awful. I the forty should have been

(08:30):
a thirty seven, maybe even a thirty six. It's part
thirty five and east Side. And I just hope Lerry
Mondela Guy had a success as a successful comedy set
last night as I had putting today at the front side.
That's all I hope. I don't know why they would
do that to me, but that's that's what they did.
So you know, I heard yesterday during the Kevin O'Connell

(08:57):
news conference tennebe we were we he aired it on
this radio station, started about twelve forty five or so,
and he talked about he was kind of it was
kind of an odd midweek news conference thing because he
started talking about comparing j J to a chef, you know,

(09:18):
and compare you know, we provide the ingredients and this,
And then he said he's calling him number nine because
he gets that look in his eye and he's number nine,
so he's almost like it's almost like we're establishing him
as some type of a superhero, right, just a fresh
faced young kid by day or by night, but on

(09:40):
Sundays he's number nine, number nine, number nine. He gets
has he gets that look in his eye. Teent me.
I usually expect a little bit more from superheroes. But
he did make the plays, he had to make what
he wanted. He is in his career. But if you

(10:01):
could find that little SoundBite from the Beatles White album
number nine, number nine, number nine and put it somewhere
on the button bar, and we can use that now
when we're talking about McCarthy. We'll beat that thing into
the ground. So that's what we do. But yeah, so
number nine will be on the field. And his commonter part.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
What is.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
What is Lamar's numbers? He number eight or six? I
think eight sounds right? Eight sounds right? I think so
be eight nine, six seven, you know, yeah, yeah, he's ocho. Yeah, Okay,
we'll hear that. You'll hear that game on this radio station.
Our coverage begins at ten o'clock. New is the Kickoff.

(10:50):
We talked a little bit about this yesterday Tiennabee toward
the end of the of the program. It's sort of
kind of oftentimes, it's not who you play, it's one
you play them. It's an old cliche. The reason cliches
are cliches is generally speaking, they're true. And if you
would have played Baltimore two or three weeks ago, like
when Detroit got ahold of them, it's it was they were.

(11:14):
They were basically you know, like when a dog is
happy to see any rolls over and you rub his tummy.
That's just the way the Ravens appeared at the game.
They just rolled over on their back and said, just
rub my tummy because they were in a bad way.
I mean they started. Were they one and five at
one point? And now they've won? Is it two or

(11:34):
three in a row? Two row? They're another three and five.
Now three and five doesn't sound much on surface, but
again Vikings are only four and four, and you could
make the argument in the NFL you're only as good
as your last game. Well, the Vikings were pretty darn
good and so were the Ravens. It should be and
I always say should people always like to go it's
going to be a great game. I don't know, but

(11:54):
it should be. Both teams have a lot at steak.
I will tell you this. To be the team that wins,
their base color will be purple. I do know that.
I mean, and I believe they're the only two teams
in the league that have a base color of purple.

Speaker 8 (12:09):
So do we know what what types of purple are they?
I feel like the Ravens purple is like a slightly
darker purple. Yes, I do believe we're not violet. No, no, yeah,
you're absolutely right. It's it's not quite the same.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
They just look darker because they have it like with black.
That could be, but I do know that it's a
it's a lighter shade of pale or a whier shade
of pale. So Baltimore is a favorite. Looking at spread
swings four favorite by four. I wonder if the Viking

(12:48):
fans are annoyed by that. I think when you have
Lamar Jackson and I you know, and this is not
meant to be. I like the McCarthy kidd. I think
he's got a chance to be really good, at least
I hope so I got my fingers crossed. But he's

(13:09):
still He's starting his This will be his fourth start
in the National Football League. Lamar has been a two
time MVP.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
So you know there's.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
There's a reason. I think the Ravens are favored in
this game, but I think bfol will probably have a
couple of things up his sleeve. We'll take a deeper
dive into the vikings. On the other side of the
break is Peak at the Purple will do spread swring
at one thirty with Deuce, the legendary Mark Rosen Tennebee
and myself, and then Rosen will be with us for
the entire two o'clock hour. That and so much more

we'll play program password tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Oh, very good, He'll be in our house tomorrow for
program password. Who else is playing? Parker Fox?

Speaker 7 (14:44):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (14:45):
Parker Fox? Is he still playing basketball for the U?
Or is he finally? And my other question is he's
still attending the U or did he graduate? And did
he did he a actually graduate with a degree? So
in other words, it would be it seems to me

(15:05):
just because he went to the University of Minnesota, I
would think would be advantageous to be paired with Parker Fox.
That's what I would think, Sir and even though I
was gonna say, Sauce at least has street smarts, but
I don't know if he even know he has that.
The only smarts he has is he's a smart Alec.
Yeah the whe there you go. So, but we're looking

(15:27):
forward to program password, that's for sure. Here's that story
from UH. Andrew Kramer wrote a Fisher ret Factory West
and by the way, peak at the Purple, brought to
you by our friends that affordable off not effordable, but
affordable electric. If you're planning any kitchen or basement or
model this fall, let the pros at Affordable Electric handle
the wiring. They do it safely, neatly, and up to code.

(16:15):
Andrew Kramer writes, Fish Refactory West Side Vikings qb JJ
McCarthy's intensity as a name, I call him nine. McCarthy
is always trying to have fun on the football field,
but missing twenty of his first twenty two NFL games
and injury has also created an anger he wants to

(16:36):
harness a quarterback. McCarthy's intensity in game and postgame has
given the four and four Wagons a little jolt. According
to this story, macarthy said, a switch gets flipped. I

(16:59):
call him nine. Nine comes out, and I got to understand, like, Okay,
he can't be at his peak performance over three and
a half hours. I've got to find little ways on
the sideline, get back to my breath, get back to
my visualization that can kind of maintain the intense competitive
stanema the whole game. It's his alter ego. He's nine.

(17:24):
You have an alter ego. You're Brandon Moleski, but you're
ten to be. I don't think there's anger. There a
lot of disappointment. I think from you, a lot of regrets,
lots of regret. I have an alter ego. I'm the

(17:44):
common man. I'm the best of the lousiest. Allows you
to the best, which isn't the best place to be
all the time. I mean, look, would you like to
be at the very top, Well, sure, but not everybody
can be at the top of that apparently is big ticket.
According to Pa. You know, he's the he's the what
did he call him? Primetime player on the fan? Is

(18:05):
that what he calls him? And then of course he
he and Dubers are doing fine. Yeah, they've been doing well.
So you know, it's hard to reach that height that
that radio hall of Fame type where Rosen is broadcasting
hall of him a radio where Rosen is and Leeve
Volsvik is, and and and and Dan Barrero and and

(18:28):
and a whole host of others. There are literally hundreds
hundreds of people in that Hall of Fame. But I
don't think I'm also rock bottom either, right, So being
the best louses louses best is in bad.

Speaker 4 (18:41):
You know.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
I'm a gab fly, so I got that going for me.
But I don't really have a lot of anger, and uh,
I think channeling that in the right direction. And I guess,
you know, to be honest, I can understand the the
anger in you've been injured two different your career has

(19:03):
been delayed by a significant amount of time, especially when
you compare it to the other kids from his rookie class.
Caleb Williams. I don't know if he's missed a game
maybe he missed something, maybe got dinged up, and I
just don't remember. But he's played all of last year,
he's played all of this year. Bon Nix, right, has

(19:24):
he been playing? He's been healthy now, Jade and Daniels
just he's got there?

Speaker 6 (19:29):
Was it?

Speaker 1 (19:29):
Was it a dislocated elbow? Non throwing? Isn't that what
I was? Elbow? I don't know the exact injury. He
ain't know. Carson Wentz. Carson Wentz would just eat some
dirt and rubble little Roba Tustin on it and play high.
How does if you can play with a fractured shoulder

(19:50):
socket and a torn labrum in a dislocated shoulder, how
can he not play with a little dislocated elbow? I
don't know. Maybe it was more gruesome than I thought.
But and who are the other youngsters from that? Drake
May he's played, right, he's played all of them. Yeah,
And who else are we at from there? Well?

Speaker 8 (20:09):
Penix didn't start the season last year, and then he
missed one game?

Speaker 1 (20:14):
Was it two weeks ago? He missed a game? Okay,
and Cousins came in and did not do well. So
you look at those in and and I can see
where there would be disappointment for sure, and anger I
think could be a reaction to because you're like, you
might even start feeling like I'm I'm I'm cursed a

(20:39):
little bit. You know, why me, Lord, what have I
done to deserve even one of these injuries, including you
know the last year, wasn't a knee injury occurred in
that preseason game in which he played really well. I
mean it was, it was. It was a nice it
was a nice kickstart to his career, you know, again
playing against some you know, others, other backups and play

(21:00):
that are trying to make the roster. But he played well.
Then he had the meniscus tear, he misses the entire season,
gets off to a nice start this year in that
fourth quarter against the Bears, then suffers the injury against
the Falcons and misses five weeks. And so it's like
it could be a year and a half. I could
have a year and a half worth of games under
my belt. And he's basically got it at four now,

(21:21):
So I can see why there three yeah, three, I
guess so I can see why there would be why
there would be some anger there. So and you know what,
whatever a person. You know there there are different ways
to motivate yourself. I've not found one for me. I'm

(21:43):
still searching here, at sixty six years of age, something
to try to motivate me. Chad abb At, the program
director in the corner's office, said, you try anything today,
you give it any effort. And I said, it's a
throwing the towel Thursday. I mean, I'm giving it effort.
It's just it's sort of like the wolves trying to

(22:05):
play defense. I guess, is what I'm trying to say.
I guess I'm putting myself on the same level as
as the wolves. So but anyway, whatever motivates you to
play well, if it's if it's anger over an injury,
if you have to pretend you're a Marvel superhero called
number nine, number nine, number nine, that's all good too.

(22:25):
It's what I'll quote another Beatles song, or at least
a song from a former Beatle who did a in
a solo effort. Whatever gets you through the night is
all right, Whatever gets you through the game is all
right by me. I mean, if that's what it takes
to is to create an alter ego for yourself called
number nine, then let's get it done right, and so

(22:49):
because they're going to need more performances like they had.
And again, you know there were you look at the numbers,
they were fairly pedestrian. He threw for about a buck
forty five, a couple of time buddies. Yeah, the one interception,
A lot of people don't think it was an interception.
A lot of biking fans don't think it was. But
that's what it goes down in the record books. But
he made some key throws. We've gone over those, particularly

(23:12):
the one on third down at the end of the
game when he hit the speedy if that's incomplete, the
way the flow of the game was going at that
not b flow, but the way the flow of the
game was going. I kind of felt like, if they
didn't pick up that first down there, Detroit was going
to go down to score and win the game. I
really felt that way. Now it may not have, but
that's just kind of the feel I got from that game.

(23:32):
After the Vikings had basically dominated the entire game, but
it just changed so quickly. It was just just like
that it was lines get that Tuddy, and all of
a sudden they got the Vikings on a third and six,
but McCarthy made the play so hoping to see more
progress like that. That is the one the one issue.
When you're trying to compete at the same time you're

(23:55):
trying to break in a young kid, it can be
difficult to do because there are going to be growing pains, right,
but we're four and four. He's number nine and falls
well with the world. Speak at the Purple brought to

Speaker 1 (25:04):
A couple thirteen fourteen pass Common Man Program on comedies
tend to be. I think most people would would say
Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time. I
know you think Pat Mahomes might be, or at least
could surpass him by the time he gets done with
this career. But I think most people look at his

(25:25):
body of work, his unprecedented number of big game championships
and would say he said go. He called the game
along with it. Wasn't I an eagle or I an

(25:50):
eagle whatever. His name is Kevin Burkert, and he had
a lot of nice things to say about night. He
talked about the three throws that a quarterback must make.
I know you didn't see you you're listening to you know,
the national treasure in Pete versus. But he talked about

(26:13):
the three throws that a quarterback needs to master to
be successful in the National Football League. Number one was
a high lofted deep ball, which he referred to as
a touch pass. Throw requires a passer's touch and arc
to drop the ball over a defender into a receiver's hands.

(26:37):
And he brought this up because once during the game
nine did it with Addie was nine to three nine
minus three equals six. He also talked about the hard
driven sideline pass. It's a described as a no fear throw,

(27:02):
needing velocity and precision to hit a receiver in a
tight window along the sideline, which Brady highlighted on the
pass to speedy to seal the game. And there's the
third the easy rhythm throw screen passes, short three step drops,
he said, help a quarterback get into a rhythm early
in the game by getting the ball out of his

(27:23):
hands quickly and building confidence. Brady was analyzing nine's performance
in his ability to make the three different types of throws.
It was also addressed by O'Connell during his news conference yesterday.

(27:47):
He said, if you're not going to throw it hard,
you know that no fear pass we were talking about,
and that is what the one thing McCarthy did it
was that the touchdown pass to Hawkinson where he did
the old Brett Favre running one way and threw kind
of across. He threw back across his body, which I

(28:10):
think even Brady brought it up that that's that's a
dangerous throw. You don't like to see a guy do it.
But it worked and Hawkinson was open enough where it
wasn't like he was throwing it like Farv did in
the NFC Championship game where there was a defender draped
all over the receiver. So it was just I felt
like he was able to set his feet a little

(28:31):
bit more than I think Farv didn't want to set
his feet up because he likes to be fire. But
O'Connell said, if you're if you're not going to throw
it hard, then you have to adjust for that and
the type of throw you use. I think it's all
part of his development. It's all normal. The best things
about nine are in the biggest moment of the game

(28:52):
and when the alter he goes on, he's really good
and so mastering those throws. There is something about being mean.
I don't want to call it young and dumb because
he's not dumb. Maybe young and naive. They talk about
it in golf a lot it teddy where you know
young kids like when baby brother Peter and his buddy

(29:14):
Jackson play golf with me, they can hit it three.
They play without any fear. Sure right they because they
don't have what we like to call scar tissue, Like
when you stand on the tea box at number four
at Loggers Trail and you see that woods on the
right side. That's terrifying you're thinking about it because you're thinking,

(29:36):
more times than not, I've blocked it into the woods
there and I've had to read tea and then i
hit it somewhere out there and I'm lying three. My
fairway percentage on that one is not yes, And so
you think about those things. In McCarthy at this point,
I think doesn't think about I probably really shouldn't throw
across my body. That's really not a high percentage throw.
But when you when you have no fear, when you

(29:58):
are nine, then you go ahead and do that. And
as long as he can complete it out of it.
I like gun slingers at quarterback. I really do. I mean,
you don't want to it's I would even you know
what they say about Bflow right about B Flow likes
to say he likes his defense to be aggressive without
being reckless. I like that with a quarterback. With a quarterback,

(30:18):
though sometimes there can be a little recklessness, and sometimes
recklessness isn't bad depending upon where you are in the game.
I mean, you know, if if the game's on the
line and you know you're looking at a fourth and
eighteen and you got to get a first down. Well,
if you got to throw it in a triple coverage,
you gotta try something. Ryan. It's just like you can't

(30:39):
you can't take a sack, you don't throw it away.
There there are some times where you just have to
make a dangerous throw because the moment calls for it,
or maybe that's all that's there.

Speaker 6 (30:49):
And so.

Speaker 1 (30:51):
Yeah, I was. I was fairly pleased. I think I
think most fans were with the way he can pour
himself and how we played now that second half, and
I don't know if that was I'd have to go
over the game and my head again. It unlike Rosen.
You know, Rosen has like a spiral notebook and he
writes down everything on every play and then he'll bring

(31:15):
it in here and refer to it. It's genius. I
don't have the patience for that. I'm not going to
sit in the work yeah yeah, or work ethic. I'm
not going to write down though.

Speaker 8 (31:23):
I used to ever tell you why I would do
that with Wild games back when I was hosting Wild
fan Line. Well, I write notes of because it's hard
to some Roube comes down the radio and like detail
some specific play and then I'm trying to think about, well,
who was that fault at that play? And I can't
forget and look, but if I read down, I remember
it easily.

Speaker 1 (31:39):
I did the same thing there was I was a
member of the Vikings Audio Network. It was the radio
network at the time. I've never worked for the audio network.
When do we start calling it the audio this year?
This year? So I've never been a part of the
audio and there haven't been invited. Derek Shelton was in

(32:01):
with Big Ticket yesterday. He walked into the studio and
I didn't introduce myself to him, nor did he introduced
himself to me, but he did kind of look me
up and down thinking. I don't know if he was
thinking he knows the radio station and thinks, oh, this
is the clown from Brown but and not Brown University,

(32:25):
not Brown University. And Jag said, you don't have to
you're starting at Shelton and he said the new Twins manager.
For those that aren't familiar with he said, you don't
need to put on the headset because it's just going
to be you in Big Ticket. And then he mentioned
that he's worked in radio that between managing. Yes, that's right.
He was a radio guy, and he said, you know,

(32:48):
I've been fired three times as a manager. And then
I looked at him and said the first thing I
ever said to him. I just said to him, well,
you got nothing over Billy Martin, because he's been hired
and fired about five times. And he laughed and said,
yeah he was. And I said, I said, I've been
fired from radio four times. He said, I've never been
fired from radio. I said, well, maybe you're in the

(33:08):
wrong profession then, because you've been fired from baseball. But
I've been taking a cheap shot, a gentle cheap shot,
saying well, you've never been fired from radio, but you've
been fired from baseball. Maybe you're in the wrong line
of work. And he laughed, and I laughed at me,
and then we just, you know, nodded, and I left
the room. How was I bringing this up? I was

(33:30):
going to tie this in somehow, in some way, shape
or form. I don't remember nothing. It was going to
lead to a point I was trying to make about
nine McCart or O'Connell or something. I don't remember what

(33:53):
it was. I don't know where I was headed. That's
too bad, too, because I thought I was onto something there. Man,
it was going to be really a great and I
just was stumbled across. It's called radio gardening. I don't
I've had no idea what to talk about today. I
think that's obvious to anybody listening. But I thought I

(34:13):
was onto something there. I gave you a segment idea
of today, but apparently you didn't. When did you tell
you that I texted you? Well? What time did the
text coment? I was out golfing. Probably, Well you can
still look at it if you're done golfing. Oh yeah, yeah,

(34:34):
Oh I like that ten of eight am. I'm planning
on doing NFL mid season of Wars today. Let me
know if you want to do it during a segment
or during five questions. Well, let's do it during a segment.
We're going to do it now? Or yeah, how long
do boy? We're only at forty three. We got a
long way to go. I got to get to what

(34:54):
fifty three or fifty four, fifty seven? Someone's trying to
help me out here, he says, radio network or something. Yeah,
I don't know what it was either. Oh I like

(35:16):
this comment. Are you still fourth in the North? If so,
you are four, I alter you go four. I like that.
I'm not fourth in the north. I would be two
two plus two be four if you want to use
before the sentence two plus two before I would be deuced.

(35:41):
But I gave birth to Douce or I didn't. My
wife did. I helped. I had to be there in
order for it to get done. I contributed. Yeah, I so,
I don't know what the hell I was talking. Why
was I talking about the Derek Shelton thing. No idea,
there's probably a rose and rip is what I'm gathering. Oh,

(36:04):
I couldn't give you rosa. We both ended up meeting.
I went we went our separate ways after we left
the show, and we both just happened to go into
the elevator vestibule at the exact same time. Got in
the elevator and he kind of under his breath, but
he for some reason wanted me to here. He goes,
there's Derek Shelton, and I kind of looked around, like,

(36:25):
are you talking to me? I mean, I know that's
who he is. I did you want to say something
about him? But then that's all he said was, huh,
there's Derek Shelton. And he kind of just said it
like I say, you know, kind of under his breath,
there's Derek Shelton. I know, I saw him. He's a
human big, he's real. Yeah, he's real. First of all,
he's a man. What do I know about Derek Shelton.

(36:46):
First of all, he is a man. Second of all,
is a human being. Third of all, he's a baseball
manager who's been fired three different times as a baseball manager.
You haven't been in radio. Well, you've never been fired
from radio, have you? No, not yet. I'm sure that
day's coming. I don't know. Oh, I know what I
was talking about. We were talking about Rosen taking notes

(37:11):
in a spiral notepad when I worked for the for
the for the Vikings Radio Network. Okay, because I was
talking about being fired. I've been fired five times in
the Vikings Radio Network, five different times. I had a
segment on there, and the first one I ever had
was I hosted fan line. I've recanted this tale before
by myself. I didn't have a former player alongside me.

(37:35):
I did it live at America's original sports bars that
still exist, America's original I'm sure there's something up there now.
I don't know what the name of it is. America's
original sports, but live from the middle of the bar
where it was just drunken Viking fans everywhere, or at
least slightly in. I don't know if everybody was drunk,
but there are people. There were people that in various

(37:57):
stages of drunken. Yeah, they were doing it right. And
I did the same thing you're talking about, because I
had to watch the entire game and I took notes.
I did the same thing because of exactly what you said.
If I'm watching the game and someone goes, you know, that.

Speaker 2 (38:14):
Third down play, whether the side to throw the balysteron,
and then I could look back and see exactly what
happened in the game, right.

Speaker 1 (38:26):
I used to watch it at what's the place right
next to it? They owned them both. The other one
was like a restaurant, and I would get to be
in there. I had the room to myself with a
huge it was almost like as big as a drive
in movie theater screen, and I watched the whole game

(38:47):
on my own. They'd bring me food and I'd take
notes on the game. I can't imagine doing that now.
The beauty of it is the Vikings will actually send
you and you could even find it on ESPN. They'll
send you a recap, basically a play by play off
every play that happened. Opening kickoff, return to the twenty

(39:09):
two yard line, fourteen, you know, forty two first down,
incomplete pass, second down, interception or whatever. Right, they'll play
it out for it, so you don't even have to
write them down anymore. You can just go ahead and
just go right to the fights will send you the
whole thing. It's a wonderful thing. This one says, this

(39:38):
is my favorite show, but this segment should be Hall
of Fame of Meandery nonsense. Yeah, I've had trouble. This
one says, maybe you could kill ten minutes talking about
the Loon's playoff game on Saturday. Huh is that the
decisive game? Three? Yes, Well, we ran something Nordo's doing

(39:59):
a uh, I didn't we run something during the last
break when Nordo talking about the game. I think it
was a commercial of some sort. Nordos pumped about he
liked soccer, so does LaBelle right? Sure you do? You
remember when I took Deuce to that soccer game? Yeah,
this was one of the This is one of my

(40:20):
my favorite moments. Oh, I don't have a lot of them,
so that's why this is near the top. But we
got there early because Deuce was going to the game.
He was playing soccer at the time, and soccer some
soccer players got invited to go and talk watching, talk
to a goalie or something. So I'm there like we're
no one's at the game yet. I take a picture
and say, boy, this Blues club is really case because

(40:41):
people are talking about how much Minnesota loves soccer and
how big it was going to be. Then I set
the picture to you and then you tweeted it out
and boy, the soccer committee was mad at us.

Speaker 3 (40:53):
Us You.

Speaker 1 (40:53):
Yeah, it was you. I got the wrath of the
soccer community. Yeah. And of course, I guess I failed
to tell you that it was actually three hours before
the I led you to believe like it was just
minutes before the opening. Do they do an opening coin
flip or kickoff? What do they do they start a
soccer game?

Speaker 8 (41:11):
Do you have any to do the thing where like
both teams kind of like walk out of the tunnel
together and then there's usually like children standing in a
line and they kind of stand all in the line together.
But I will I will say at that time, I
was not a big soccer guy. Yeah, I was not
planning on watching any of it. Since then, I've changed

(41:33):
my tune. I've been opened to it. The stadium is great.
I think it's a great place to bring kids because
you know, every spot's a good spot to see, and
there's constant action and the game's over ninety minutes. So sometimes, yeah,
when you're bringing young kids to some of these places
and the game might be three three and a half hours,
it's a long time. Whereas I know I'm getting out

(41:55):
of there an hour forty.

Speaker 1 (41:56):
Yeah, No, that is well, that's even same with the
National Hockey League. It they don't they stop the action
for a fight, penalty or icing. Otherwise it goes just
back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Could
flow to it. You brag about not preparing for your show,
But listeners get bored with all the blank airtime. Could

(42:17):
you take ten as ideas and use them please? Sounds
like he's admonishing me and scolded me. But no, here's
the other thing that annoys me, though, he says, but
listeners get bored with all the blank Here, he's like
he's speaking for everybody. Some people like the intermission music.

(42:40):
I have a fertile mind. There's a lot going on
in there, and sometimes I get thrown off track. And
you have this much going on.

Speaker 8 (42:49):
There's a lot rattling around in that head of your
six seven things at one time.

Speaker 1 (42:53):
There's a lot rattling around in there. And there's for
sure if JJ's nine in common is four, then it's
ten to B's alter ego, just ten. It could be
a play on tenna, or it could be for or
it could be for the score he made when he

(43:14):
this pumped onto thirty four for ten. Because you did
do that, I did ten. So happy to have that
whole over us. You're ten, I'm four, JJ's nine.

Speaker 8 (43:33):
All this time, I've been spelling my name wrong because
I never really knew how to spell tena right. It
was just a nickname given to you, like tenna B.
There's multiple ways you can spend I could just come
up with my own way. I kind of like the
did I should have done the number ten?

Speaker 1 (43:43):
Yeah? Well, the way I spell it is capital T
E N N a capital B. Yeah, that's how I
spell it. When I texted us, I texted to people
all asked it. I'll do the old or what I'll
do is when when there's a somebody submits a preposterous
statement for considering, I'll always go back. I'll forward this

(44:07):
to ten and write ten te n N and then
a comma er comma. The PST Committee. I always love
that one because I don't want to let them know
that you're preposterous statement. There's nobody else. There's nobody else,
it's you, but you want them. It's a ruse. We're
trying to perpetrate on the listening to public that we

(44:29):
have this this this panel of people that are pouring
over all the preposterous statements, almost like when they do
you know, Hall of Fame balloting or they do power rankings,
so they have several We like to let them think
that we have all sorts of people working behind the
scenes on the on the PST. That's another one of
your regrets, having to do that every year. Remember when

(44:52):
I said I was going to take it over.

Speaker 8 (44:54):
I remember that I gave it to you for one
year to throw your opinion in and as I suspected,
you didn't go very far.

Speaker 1 (45:07):
This show is the only one that feels like a
conversation among friends. You're honest about the local teams good
or bad. So the perfect middle of the day show.
That's why I'm stuck in the middle. Clock, a clown
to the left of me, a joker to the right. Here,
I am stuck in the middle with you. Here's one
I like this, Common, I prefer the rambling. See This

(45:30):
one says personally, the dead air makes me think my
phone is ringing. And when I when I have no
phone calls, that reminds me that no one calls me.
I'm not sure what that means. This one says, coming
you are best when you are meandering the breaks in
your show. Give me time to figure out your jokes.
Love let you're doing your best. Common John from Owatana,

(45:57):
Well we got to fifty four. Well, believe it or not,
there's there's some good stuff coming up five three four.
The good stuff is my Lunch'm gonna eat lunch during
five three four. Then we're gonna do mid season NFL Awards, okay,
and then one fifteen, and then god only knows one thirty.

(46:19):
I got a couple of emails, and people raise some
interesting issues on controversial issues. We can get to those
two and we can just kind of mix and match
and get to two o'clock and then rip roseen. That's
kind of what we do.

Speaker 8 (46:28):
Like it.

Speaker 1 (46:29):
What do you have for a tease for us?

Speaker 8 (46:30):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (46:30):
Yeah, the wolves didn't bring enough spirit last night

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
