Speaker 1 (00:00):
Mister Roth, how are you today, my man?

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Oh great you are.

Speaker 1 (00:04):
You're not lying. An Emmy award winning producer, show runner,
shows like The Regular Show love it. Huge SpongeBob fan.
My kids love the fact. I have a twenty two
year old and a nineteen year old huge Regular Show fans.
They love SpongeBob still do unabashedly. We caught the Broadway

(00:24):
musical a few years ago, and I tell them all
the time. Yeah, I tell them all the time. I
just went out as Patrick for Halloween and I'm like,
I'm I'm always saying to them, I'm like, you know,
you guys, I was a fan of SpongeBob before I
ever got married, before I ever had you guys at
that show. Just I don't know. I was in my

(00:46):
I was in my early thirties and I was watching SpongeBob.
I don't think I'll ever outgrow it.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
So yeah, yeah, I don't think I will either. Yeah.
One year I went so as who they were Kindrick Spirits.
I went and skipped one year as the Kindred Spirits. Here.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
You know I really love is. I'm a huge Plankton fan.
I am a huge Plankton fan, but just a great
universe there, and like I said, Regular Show is huge
hit too. And next up we got batfam which I
can't wait to talk about this. So it's premiering on
Prime Is this going to be a situation where on

(01:23):
Prime Video where it's every Monday night is the latest
episode of Batfaan?

Speaker 2 (01:28):
You know, I actually think all ten okay, I should
know the answer to this, and I think all ten
are going to be released at the same time on Monday.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Yeah, okay. Now the interesting thing is that nineteen year
old my son. I have a son and a daughter,
so it's amazing when we have conversations about Batman. You know,
I grew up watching the Adam West Show and Batman
was on Super Friends, and you know, obviously we got
all these great movies. But he knows, like he's considering

(02:03):
his age, he knows a lot of Robbins that I
don't know. He knew about Damian Wayne, Yeah, he had.
He had to explain to me who Damian Wayne was
and that whole changing of the guard. So I'm looking
at Batfan, which looks like it's going to be hilarious.
I mean, it's just it's Batman at home. Uh, Alfred
is there, of course, Damian Wayne is there, of course.

(02:25):
But there's one question I had for you. So, okay,
we've got Alicia Penniworth. That's Alfred's grand niece. And Alfred's
had quite a run the last couple of years from
Michael Caine to that series where you know, on Gotham.
Alfred was pretty badass on the series Gotham. So I'm down.
I'm down with all that. Uh here's my question though.

(02:48):
One character is Razah Ghoul, who is Damien's adoring pop pop.
How is that possible? Ros is nothing but a villain?
How's is he in this series and playing pop pop?

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Oh? Man? I think you know, even though he's a villain, right,
I mean, he still loves his grandson. Ultimately, he's you know,
he runs the League of Shadows, right, So this is
his son, I think somewhere deep or his grandson. I
think somewhere deep down inside he hopes that Damien will
take over the League of Shadows. I think he fits
in really great because he's a patriarchical figure and so

(03:26):
is Bruce and they and it's this economy of the
two of them, you know, tug of war over how
to raise this son, right, because Bruce wants to raise
be an upstanding citizen and to be more like him
in his own image. And Roz, you know, he fawns
over him, but in a completely different way because I
think ultimately he would like him to succeed him, you know,

(03:48):
as as you know, as the guy who runs League
of Shadows.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
But there's my question, and I might have just I
might just be a slug along the way, but you're
you're coming right out and calling him the grandfather? What
did I miss about Roz along the way? What did
they reveal? You know, when I was first introduced to him,
for me anyway, it was Liam Neeson, it was Batman begins.

(04:12):
Did they reveal somewhere along the way? What do you
mean he's the grandfather?

Speaker 2 (04:19):
So his daughter Talia al gool okay, you know, depending
on which version you know, there's some of the different
iterations and versions of this, depending on which version you're with.
She she and Bruce right had a son together.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Oh that okay? And that that's like is that from
the comics? Damian Wayne, like in the comics is the
offspring of Bruce. Huh.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
It's from the comics, just from some animated.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Series, and like I said, that's what makes the conversations
with my son so interesting. You know, Robin to me
is Dick Grayson. To him, Robin is you know, Jason.
He's got a couple of he's got a couple of
different ones.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Yeah, so Bruce, you know, he has a long tradition
of taking in different words. And it was a big
decision because yes, they usually end up being they usually
end up you know, being a new iteration of Robin.
Of course there's you know, batgirl. But I think you know,
when we were putting together the movie, we want it

(05:28):
so usually Damien's sort of more of a petulant thirteen
year old and we want it, you know, more of
like family viewing, you know, a little bit more delightful
of a character. He hates Damien down.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Sure. Well, and you made Selena an actual cat, right
if I'm understanding. I mean, it is a it is animation,
and like I said, it's coming from the guy who
gave a SpongeBob and regular show. So you know, you
know what you're getting kind of going in How old
do you mind my asking how old you are?

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Mike me, I'm fifty years old, all right.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
So you're closer to my age, you know, I'm fifty eight.
You know what I never understood as far as all
this Batman, all these iterations, all this fun that's had
been had with him and really serious dark content, is
they've bailed on Aunt Harriet all together. And I don't
get it. Harriet was a huge part of the TV series.

(06:29):
She's never been brought up again. Is there no Harriet ever?

Speaker 2 (06:36):
You know, I actually kind of forgot about her, and
I feel really oud about that.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
A lot of people do.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
And I think at her, I'm like, oh, yeah, that's great.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Well, because we used to laugh, we.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Usually maybe this is distermination of something we need to
explore in the series.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
And I think batfaan that's why I brought it up.
I think batfan is the perfect place for her to
be reintroduced. We used to laugh, my siblings and I.
That's always how they got to Batman. They would like,
hold on Harriet hostage. We remember one Cliffhanger ending and
she was an old lady. They had her bound and

(07:13):
gagged and hovering above a that of like you know,
hot oil that they were slowly lowering her into and
it's like she's an eighty five year old woman. Why
are you you know, doing this to aunt Harriet Batfan
would be the perfect place for her to come back.
Do you already know if there is a season two?

(07:34):
Sounds like you're gonna have a great run with this one.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Well, we're hoping we get some more episodes, and yeah,
we're hoping it's a great run. It's very very extreman
to see it. And you know, like I said, if
you're a fan of the movie, I think you'll be
a big fan of the series.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Yeah. And it's interesting too, Harry.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Thing's really interesting because well, you know our Alfred, he's like,
he's like a hundred years old. Yeah, he's pretty old
and stuff.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Yeah, well series sue Alfred was in the series suit
they younged him down. He'd like I said, they made
all of a sudden. There was a TV series called
penny Wise where he was like a badass. I kind
of liked that though.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
Yeah, yeah, no, it's great. Yeah, there's there's an iteration
of Alfred where he was part of a sick yeah,
which is really interesting, you know.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
Yeah, uh, and so much great stuff. And you're one
of the creators of the Emmy nominated Merry Little Batman
Special too, So, I mean, you know what you're doing. Uh,
but dude, you should you should do something with Aunt Harriet.
It's a deep cut in season two. They should just
have a visit from Aunt Harriet. I think there's a
lot of people who would love it.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
Uh. Yeah, no, I think you're right. Yeah, we're gonna
definitely talk about it. Yeah, I'm gonna thank you much,
thanks so much for having.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
Me, Thanks for taking the time and again. It's Emmy
Award winning producer show run Mike Roth, and the new
series is Batfam. It airs on Prime Video, all the
episodes dropping tonight nearest he can tell anyway, but be
on the lookout for it. It's surely going to be
another binge watching visit to Gotham City.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
