Speaker 1 (00:00):
Chris, do we have you? Yes, So it's Chris Brocow,
an extraordinary musician coming through with the band. I want
to make sure I say it right. I think I've
been telling it wrong all along, because I just got
turned on to you guys a couple of weeks ago.
Lupo is it Lupo Tita or Lupo Chita?

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Lupo Chita.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Yeah, I thought Lupo Chita. And you know, I'm seeing
right here the name inspired by spaghetti westerns. It's bringing
me back to me and my dad watching and you
know the Man with No Name, the Clint Eastwood movies.
Which movie is it out of?

Speaker 2 (00:33):
You know, it's it's not taken from an actual movie,
it's I guess. One of the women in the band,
Jen had, was kind of obsessed. She was obsessed more
with like sixties Italian biker movies.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Okay, yeah, well they were beautiful, they were beautifully shot,
and they very artistic.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yeah yeah, and her family are originally from Bari, so
she's she's sort of steeped in that. But yeah, she
just made up a list of like fake Italian biker
movie names and presented them to me, and she was like,
pick one, of these and I was like, Lupo Chita.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Yeah, I love it. So what an interesting and an
interesting way to come up with a name and a
very interesting triple bill coming to the cellar right down
the street actually from the radio station I'm sitting in
right now here in Hampden, Connecticut. A Friday night showed
June twentieth. Tell me about this ticket and where do
you land on the ticket? It's a triple bill, right.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
I think we're playing in the middle and headlining will
be our friends from New York City, Savak, and playing
first will be this band called the Wimbrels, kind of
a rogues gallery of New York musicians and including some
people who had played with Glenn Broca's ensemble. So it's

(01:53):
pretty interesting. It should be a super cool bill. We're
actually going to do three shows that weekend with that.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Now, do you know Fernando Fernando Pinto. I don't you
don't know that name? Okay, he's a gentleman who connected
us and he's been I mean since I was a kid.
I hate to do this to Fernando, but I mean
when I was in college. He was a booker here
in Connecticut. He just lives and breathes you know, New
York rock and roll. Well beyond that, I mean every genre,

(02:24):
and he's had a habit over the other. I mean,
this is a guy who brought a band called Nirvana
to this place called the Moon that had no that
had no stage. But he earned the street cred of
well a Fernando's hip to the you know, and and
we got we got Pearl Jam. You know, he was

(02:45):
in front of the grunge stuff, you know, out front,
so I thought you might know him too. He's earned
quite a reputation, well earned. And he's the one who
sent me a Loopo Chita song. I'm forgetting which one
right now, but it had a nice kind of pop rock.
The most rock on the bill, I would say, is maybe,
uh oh, I.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Don't know, no, no, no, I've seen both those other bands
and they and they totally rock, certainly hold their own.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
And yeah, absolutely just song wise, I mean, and maybe
it was the first one that he sent to me.
The guitar was very omnipresent. What what category would you
put your band in if you had, you know, genre
wise all rock?

Speaker 2 (03:30):
You know what, Well, it's it's that's hard to say,
especially now. Because I think the band has been changing
over the last year or two. I think when we
first started out, and certainly the first songs that that
I I learned, and you know, most of the songs

(03:51):
on the first record were written by by Jen and Sarah,
and at that time, I was telling people I thought
it sounded like kind of garage rock for want.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
I love that, So that's what I should have gone with.
Garage rock is more Fiti.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yeah, I mean it was definitely kind of reminded me
a little bit of The Cramps, and I think but
I think it's kind of evolved since then. I've been
writing a lot more of the songs in the last
year or so, and so we're we're working on a
new record right now, which we're almost finished with, which

(04:30):
is going to come out in January of twenty twenty six,
and wait to check. It's definitely yeah. I can't I
don't think I have an accurate description for right now,
but it's we're trying out some different things.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
I love it, yeah, And it's great room. The sellers
a great room. I can't wait to see you guys
in such a close space. They've also got a banging menu,
FYI just so you know. Oh good, Yeah, if you've
never played there before, Yeah, really really ambitious menu. It's
a it's an interesting venue and you're a busy guy.
You also score films. Have you scored any films I

(05:05):
might have seen?

Speaker 2 (05:06):
You know, they're all pretty small. I did the music
for a documentary about this album cover artist named Storm
tourguson a movie called Taken by Storm.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
Yeah, you did Crooked finger And I saw that at
the Mystic Film Festival in the fall.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Oh, right on, great? How do you like that?

Speaker 1 (05:26):
You didn't see that coming, did you? Because I didn't.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Yeah, it's funny because Crooked Fingers definitely been making the round.
You has been winning a lot of awards.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
It was fantastic.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Yeah, that's That's the third film that I've done with
with these two directors. I love working with them. They're
really smart and easy to work with, and their films
are super cool.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
So yeah, I did. I did. I spent the weekend
at the Mystic Film Festival this past fall. It's a cool. Yeah.
It's a hell of a film festival and a lot
of talent involved there, and I don't get you know,
I was just checking boxes of what I got to say.
And I remember when Crooked Finger came up the description
of it, so it's what an irony. You're also busy

(06:09):
with your own solo record, ghost Ship, and this is
incredible solo shows in Italy, France. Uh, what's it been
like traveling, you know, traveling abroad these last couple of
weeks months? Or are you about to embark on these
shows that I just got back.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
From doing shows in Mexico, and right before that was
shows in France and Italy, and I did some stuff
in Japan a couple of months ago. It's been good.
I mean, the US is kind of a crazy place
right now. Not not the worst thing to take a
break from it. Yeah, it's been great. Audiences have been

(06:48):
receptive and people have been cool.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
And you're gonna have some of You're gonna have some
of your stuff. The merch table is going to have
some loop, you know, some of the stuff you're doing
with the band. But also will got Ship be available
at the show here in Hamden?

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Absolutely love it, absolutely.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Chris Brocoff, thanks so much for being flexible. I'm looking
forward to the show. Good Friday night show at the
Cellar on Treadwell. There's nothing like that and some good
rock and roll, great Triple Bill. I appreciate, appreciate you
taking the time, and I'll see you Friday

Speaker 2 (07:18):
June twenty awesome, looking forward to it, all right, my man,
take care of for Yeah, thanks for inviting me down
