Believe in the magic of the Hobdays. Dave Ryan's Christmas Wish On the off
chance you've never heard of Christmas Wishbefore. It is something we do every
Christmas season where we ask people wholisten to the show to say, Hey,
tell us about a family that's havinga rough time for whatever, a
job loss or illness or accident orfire or just financial problems. And we

(00:24):
get so many people who are justso wonderful. They're like, I want
to help this family out, butI don't have the money to do it
myself. What can KATIEWB do?So we go through a bunch of emails
every single day and we find somethat we go, oh, well,
we learned the problem is. Wewant to help everybody. We see him
and we go oh, this isa oh we got to do this one.

(00:44):
And the genubles see like that allwe got to do this one.
I'll be like, yeah, thatone's good. And then pretty soon we
have a stack of forty seven Christmaswishes we want to do, and we
do as many as we can,and the more money that we get donated,
the more wishes and the more helpwe can provide. Hi, Carla,
good, You've listened to Katie WBfor a long time, right,
many many years. Yes, butyou've never really thought you would need to

(01:07):
do a Christmas wish for anybody untilthis year. I did not, And
Carla was getting a little bit emotionala minute ago, and I said,
it's okay to get emotional. Itis just fine. Yeah, there are
no rules for get not getting emotional. So if you feel like you do,
that is just fine. Who isthe person that you're nominating for Christmas
wish today, Carla? Today,I've nominated my friends Sarah and her entire

(01:30):
family. Okay, we're gonna callSarah in a second. Sarah has three
children and one of them has sufferedsome very very serious health problems that has
basically affected the entire family. Sowe're gonna call Sarah. And how do
you know Sarah. Sarah and herdad were customers of mine. I work

(01:51):
Barbingo in the North Metro area.Okay, okay, and so you met
her just kind of like being friendlyand chatting, and then you got to
know Sarah and her situation. Absolutely. All right, let's call Sarah right
now. But first before we do, we got our workhorse out doing his
thing. Brandon from College muscle Movers. Good morning, Brandon, Good morning.
Brandon is our official Santa's Little helperwho goes out and delivers all these

(02:15):
wishes. And because somebody's got todo it. They don't just magically show
up and you're stocking. Brandon's actuallygot to go out and deliver all these
Brandon, we appreciate it. Sometimeswe say, Brandon, you got to
drive all the way to White BearLake. Sometimes it's like down the block
from Brandon's house. You drove alittle bit of a ways this morning,
right, Brandon. Okay, wehave a bad connection with Brandon, but
Brandon, we appreciate you. Weappreciate College muscle Movers. And Brandon is

(02:38):
probably the most underappreciated part of ChristmasWish, but one of the most important
parts. We wouldn't be able todeliver these wishes without him, right exactly.
So Brent, thank you, Brandon. God love you. We'll talk
to you soon and stand by incase we need you to knock on the
door. Okay, okay, thankyou very much. Let's call Sarah right
now for her Christmas wish. Soyou know sarahf from hosting You said barbingo,

(03:02):
use that correct? Oh? Mygosh. So you just get to
know all your fun people who comeplay Bingo there. They're like an extension
of my family. My family isvery small, So I just love what
I do and I love the peoplethat I get to do it with.
I see them on a regular basis, so they're hi. I'm calling for
Sarah, Please Sarah. This isDave Ryan over at kd w B.

(03:24):
Good morning. Do you know theanswer to the daily trivia question? I'm
a r You know you know youknow better than that. Now you know
that there's no you. I thinkyou know what I'm calling for. Do
you know you know about Katie AB'sChristmas wish? Do you I do to

(03:45):
you all the time? She almostsaid, yeah, you almost, But
you've been busy and you don't havetime to listen. That's part of the
reason why we're calling. I'm gladwe found you in good spirits this morning.
I've got your friend here with you, Carla from Barbingo. Carla,
say hi to good morning, sweetheart. Be't heard. That's okay, good

(04:05):
morning. I miss you. Imiss you too, sweetheart. The reason
that you've been busy is the reasonthat we're doing a Christmas wish for you.
And you know, Christmas wish iswhere we find somebody, an individual
or a family like yours that hashad some unfortunate things happen this year.
And we've heard about your year, and Carla's going to read the email that

(04:30):
she wrote asking for a Christmas wishfor you. So Carla, whenever you're
ready, I'm going to do mybest. I'm feeling pretty emotional right now.
Friend. I met Sarah shortly aftershe had lost her mom in the
year twenty sixteen. She and herdad used to come in and play bar
bingo where I worked, and theywere truly an amazing duo holding each other

(04:51):
together after that loss of her mother. The two of them were one of
the closest father daughter duos I've everknown, and they went from customers to
great friends and little to no timebecause it was easy to see they were
amazing people and I wanted them inmy life while missing her mom tremendously.
Sarah had another loss in January ofthis year, where she lost her best

(05:12):
friend her dad as well, leavinganother gaping hole in her heart as if
that wasn't enough, While still gettingused to her dad not being here,
Sarah now has a three and ahalf year old little boy named Aj,
who became sick in late September. After a couple of trips to the doctor
and then the hospital, Sarah andher significant other Anton found out that little

(05:33):
Aj was sick. He was reallysick. His heart was only functioning at
fifteen percent, this starting to causekidney and liver issues for him. Now,
Aj is currently living with a Berlinheart while waiting for a heart transplant.
The Berlin heart acts as a mechanicalheart assist and is currently acting externally

(05:53):
as the left side of his heart. Unfortunately, this is not a long
term solution. Sarah has most ofher time at the hospital since this ordeal
began a little over two months ago, only to go home on a very
rare occasion. Anton and Sarah's twoother boys are doing their best and keeping
things running at home, but theirdays are filled with as much anxiety as

(06:15):
Sarah's. They miss Sarah and Ajtremendously too. The hospital is not close
to home and their lives have beenessentially uprooted. While at the hospital,
Sarah has watched her little boy gothrough scans, tests, bandage changes,
and some patchy hair loss, feedingtubes, and multiple other procedures. As
you can imagine, this is noteasy to watch, never truly knowing what

(06:35):
to expect next. The bandage changeshave been very challenging and very painful for
Aj, and he gets very nervousand anxious during these times. Sarah's somewhat
new family consists of doctors, nurses, lab techs, and other medical professionals.
The few times that Sarah has goneanywhere, be it outside or back
home, she has made a coupleof comments about how it is so different

(06:59):
on the outside, just seeing theclouds, traffic as bad as it is,
and other people, as well asgrabbing some fresh air. I do
know, however, that she wouldn'tdo anything other than what she is currently
doing and spending time with her sonwhere her heart tells her she needs to
be. Sarah is one of thebest moms I know. She's also an
amazing friend. Even during her darkesttimes, and no matter how difficult her

(07:21):
day has been, she always putsa smile on her face and she would
be the first one to look atsomeone and say are you okay? Or
is there anything I can do foryou? She has raised her kids the
same way They are so polite andrespectful and so full of love for their
mom and their little brother. Weknow for a fact that Sarah is AJ's
mom too, because even though heis a little down and out right now,

(07:41):
there are some smiles that radiate fromhim and they are as vibrant as
hers. Rumor has it, AJhas made a few special friends, and
when he had to move to adifferent floor in the hospital that really bummed
him out. He recently was ableto FaceTime with a friend on the outside
and his little face just lit up. Sarah's friends and family watch for the
daily updates on Carrying Bridge or Facebookon how Aj and the entire family are

(08:03):
doing, and we are so gratefulif there aren't any setbacks that day.
Sarah has not been able to workmuch over the last fifteen months. Is
prior to her dad's passing away, she was taking care of him and his
medical needs. She has always puther family first. Being chosen to have
this Christmas wish granted for Sarah andher entire family in hopes to help a

(08:24):
little bit and spread some joy duringa somewhat dark season is more than amazing.
My prayers on this were answered. We are all praying for one more
miracle right now, and that isfor a heart for Aj. In peace
for this family. Knowing that thegrant you can't grant the wish of a
heart, we just asked that youkeep this loving, deserving family in your
thoughts and prayers during this season.Well, I'm picturing a three and a

(08:52):
half year old. Allison's daughter,Ava is three and a half. Remember
when Alison and Chase and Beth andCarson were three and a half. You
probably know somebody who is three anda half or was recently, and you
think about that kid, that littlechild, that little toddler, and what

(09:13):
their life was like. And nowyou picture Aj at three and a half
lives in the hospital. How longhas he lived in the hospital, Sarah.
Oh, we were admitted, sorry, we were admitted September twenty sixth.
And before then he everything seemed fineand he was feeling a little sick
and didn't get better and the doctorsaid, okay, well we'll try this,

(09:35):
and then they found out only fifteenpercent of his heart was working.
Yeah, yeah, he was.We thought it was just like common coal.
He was sick for a couple ofweeks and then out of the urgency
room because he has a nurse. At this point I knew he was dehydrated,
and urgency room gave him no friend. And then a couple of days
later he just went from being sickto just limp and just laying there.

(09:56):
God this doctor because I was finallyable to get him in on He's going
to heart murmur and the children andyeah, he was in heart failure,
respiratory failure live were a kidney failure, basically multiple organ failure. He just
think he had the flu and heshould be home with mom and dad and
his brothers watching cocoa melon and drivingyou crazy. And you're driving back and

(10:22):
forth and I'm going to guess Antonalso driving back and forth to the hospital.
How far of a drive is it'sat the hospital, can I ask?
Oh, it's probably thirty minutes.Okay, so a bit of a
drive. Okay. Well, forChristmas wish, it is kind of like
Carla said, I wish we couldgrant the wish of a new heart.
And that is something that you're hopingfor, and that also comes with its

(10:45):
own other emotions, because then youthink of another family and their child,
of course, and that doesn't escapeyour mind. And I know that.
But what we want to do isgive you a better Christmas of merrier Christmas.
And I think we've got a lotof things that my help you out.
Let's start off with let's talk aboutthe kids that they're a little bit

(11:07):
older, but don don Trell isit Dan Trail or Dontrell Dan Treull,
Dan Trell. He is seventeen,Deshaun is fifteen. I'm sure they're very
concerned and help out how they can. Yeah, yeah, yeah, they're
great kids. My Alice actually hada breakdown a couple of weeks into the
hospital stay because he tried to dotoo much and try to play dad and

(11:28):
big brother and do everything at thehouse and that broke me down even more.
But yeah, no, they're amazing. And they never ask for anything.
Well they you know, it's funny, they never ask for anything,
but they're not good about to getsomething for Christmas. Wish we'd give you
some fun things. We give yousome practical things, and let's start up
with some fun stuff for the guys. We've got one hundred and twenty five
hundred and twenty dollars Spotify gift card, one hundred dollars Xbox gift card,

(11:52):
one hundred dollars PlayStation gift card.I'm not sure which system they have,
but if they've got one, they'regood to go. Fifty dollars Apple gift
card. Then for AJ, becauseI know he's still living in the hospital
waiting for he's on the Berlin Heartwhich sounds like it's a mechanical heart device.
Okay. We did a little researchand found out that we think he'd

(12:15):
liked Spider Man. It's okay, good, So we got the Marvel Spidey
and Friends City truck set. Wehad fun shopping for these, by the
way, we felt like kids shoppingfor these. Spider Man Web Slinging,
Speedway, hot wheels, Racetrack,DC super Friends, Battech bat bot.
We got one that has batteries andmakes a lot of noise because we know
you'd love that, okay. Andthen the Marvel spidy dress upset and the

(12:41):
spider Man v Tech Learning Watch.Just some cool stuff. And then for
you and Anton, some things forthe family, starting with a sixty four
gig iPad and iPad case so youcan watch movies in the hospital with Aj.
Oh Wow or cocomelon or whatever thereyou know, everybody's got a phone
on their the camera on their phone. But we want to get you a
good, really nice one of Vivitardigital camera and Polaroid instant camera with film

(13:05):
to capture memories. One hundred dollarsAMC gift card. You can give it
to the boys to go out,or maybe you and Anton can have a
date night. We got a twohundred dollars gift card for anything you need
at Target. Two hundred dollars Netflixsubscription gift card. They said, Dave,
what restaurant should we send the familyto? And I said the best
one, Red Lobster. Yes,oh sir, We're gonna send you in

(13:28):
the family out to Red Lobster witha two hundred dollars gift card. Two
hundred dollars gift card to one ofyour favorite restaurants, Trio, oh yeah,
oh yeah. And because you gotfive of you four hundred dollars Cub
Foods gift card as well. Butthere's more. You have been gifted gallons
by holiday Holiday station stores heard aboutyour wish and they said, let's hook

(13:50):
Sarah and her family up with gasfor a year for a year. Carla
is losing it right now, Carla, it's okay if you get emotional,
it's okay. Holiday station stores grewup in the Twin Cities, which is
why they're so dedicated to investing backin the communities where you find their stores,
because they appreciate what you do forthem. Yeah, and they want

(14:13):
to give back. So thanks toholiday and holiday they know what the impact
a year of gas can have ona family. And I have one more
thing that just got added that Igot a text from our promotions directly just
now, just now. Yes,they also have gotten you a brand new
dryer, So I don't know ifyou needed it. I assume you needed

(14:37):
a dryer, but they got youa new one. Tell me about that,
Carla, tell me about the dryer. I just am a single person
living at home, and if thedryer's not working, it's a nightmare.
Sarah has five people that she's doinglaundry for and when she tries to sneak
home from the hospital and get thoseloads of laundry done, and recently she
posted what else could go wrong? Now? My dryer's not working? So

(15:00):
I was hoping that we could atleast do something to help get it fixed.
But you guys a new dryer forSarah. That's amazing. I just
fixed my washing machine and it rains, it pours sometimes. I will tell
you, you know what's amazing tome, Sarah talking to you. You
are so energetic, happy, spirited. Oh it's ok. It's okay to

(15:28):
cry. You know what happens allthe time on Christmas way, So I
want to tell you I admire you. There are a lot of people,
myself included, we have no ideahow we would feel in a situation like
this, but I admire people likeyou who can be positive and happy and
uplifting to other people even in theheart of the hardest of times. And
I hope we made your Christmas alittle bit easier and let you know that
people think about you and care aboutyou and your family and wish the best

(15:52):
for aj. I am blown away. Thank you all. Thank you,
Carla, You're welcome, sweetheart. And I just have one more thing to
let you know, and that's thatmany of your co Bingo friends that played
when you and Dad were there andmeet Raffle customers have also chipped in and
I've got some stuff from them foryou, and I'm taking pictures of them,

(16:15):
so you know, who they are, but they know who you are.
So oh my gosh. Thanks You'rejust missed and loved and I just
want the best for you. Guys, Yes we too, I want the
best for you. Thank you,Thank you, Sarah, you take care,
happy holidays and best of you andAJ and Anton and the boys.
And thanks for being on KWB andthank you Carla for nominating that family.

(16:38):
What I mean, you think aboutthis if you have a little boy or
a little girl and they're three anda half, or if they ever were
three and a half or two anda half, and you think about what
they're like, and then you thinkabout AJ living in the hospital and what
that family's going through. We wantto thank Treasure Island Resorting Casino for all
always helping us out holiday station stores, especially the gas for a year so

(17:03):
that is amazing. And College MuscleMovers of course, and thanks to Youth
Link, and thanks to Choice Bankfor managing all the money. Let's play
a Christmas song. Let's play anold, old Christmas song. I'm not
sure why, let's just do.It's kdwb's Christmas wish.
