best friend Ashley. Hi, Ashley, Ashley's taken video here. Tell me
(00:23):
a little bit about who is theperson that you're going to call and grant
the wish? Who is this personthat is going to get the wish today?
Yeah, this is a coworker ofmine that I've worked with for fifteen
years. Her name is Kathy,Okay, and she's just had a one
of the toughest heres that I've heardof in a while. So I read
(00:44):
about her years. So definitely somebodywe wanted to grant a Christmas wish for
sidebar, You look like Paula Abdul. Do you hear this a lot?
All sorts of I guess kind ofwhat else do you get? Other people
you can get told I've had I'mmany different Yeah, celebs. Yeah,
okay, Well it's Paul abduall. So let's make the phone call to Kathy
(01:11):
right now. Kathy should be homeand she really has no idea that we're
about to call. But let's talkto Santa's little helper. I think we
got Brandon on the phone. Brandon, is that you? Good morning?
Brandon is back from college muscle movers. How long you've been helping us out
deliver wishes on Christmas? Wish?Brandon? I want to sit your three
now. That's about year number threebecause you and your boy Cam kind of
(01:34):
have alternated back and forth and youare now camped out outside of this person's
home ready to deliver right correct.Yo, thank you, Brandon. We
appreciate that. We're going to putyou on hold really quick. He is
our backup in case she doesn't answerthe phone. But let's make the phone
call right now to the person. This is all live on KATIEWB. So,
(01:57):
Jennica, how did you convince Kathyto answer a random phone call at
seven thirty morning on a Monday.I actually just convinced her sister to be
there make sure that she answers thephone. Yeah, they're watching TV right
now. I think okay, that'sgood. Hope they're not listening to radio
calling Kathy right now? Mm hmm. First Christmas wish of the year.
(02:30):
I'm John Answer. Hello, Hello, did we lose them? So fullo?
Hello? Is this Kathy? Yes? Hi, Kathy, It's Dave
Ryan on the radio over at KADWB. I know you're not expecting this phone
(02:51):
call, but I've got somebody herethat wants to say hi to you.
Say hi to Jennica Lee. Hi, Kathy, Hi Jennica. How are
you? I'm fine? How areyou? I'm good. You're wondering what's
going on? Have you ever heardof Katie WB's Christmas Wish? Kathy?
(03:12):
It's okay if you haven't, letme explain what we do every year here
on KATIEWB. We ask people wholisten to the show to tell us about
somebody who's had struggled a little bitduring the last year or struggling right now,
and what can we do to helpout. So your friend Jenica wrote
in to ask us if we couldhelp out with a Christmas wish for you,
(03:35):
Kathy. And if you've got aminute, I'm going to have Jennica
read the letter that she wrote aboutyou. Is that okay? Yeah,
okay, I know it's a lotto soak in. I get it,
but go ahead, Jenica, whenyou're ready. Okay. My coworker,
Kathy has had a bad string ofluck this past year. I've worked with
(03:58):
her for fifteen years at my salon, watching her give so much of herself
to her clients, never missing aday, coming in early or staying late
to squeeze clients, and always doingwhatever it takes. Not only did she
service her clients with the highest levelof love and care, but us her
coworkers as well, always giving ushugs or bringing in lemon bars at our
(04:21):
request, and just being there tolisten and assure she's our salon mom.
Even after all the love she wouldpour out at work, she would go
home and poort into her family, helping at the farm, the care of
her parents, a devoted member ofthe church, raising her three kids,
and you can imagine that there wouldbe no more love left after all that.
(04:45):
And yet even with an empty tank, she would sacrifice the shirt off
her back if it meant that someoneelse got to be warm. On Thanksgiving
Day of last year, Kathy's husbandpassed away unexpectedly at home. Her husband
was a full time support of theirdependent daughter, and Kathy had to cut
back hours at work. To helpwith her needs. With working less came
(05:06):
more challenges in covering bills. Shortlyafter the death of her husband, Kathy
started to feel ill. After somescary test results, she underwent a surgery
that was supposed to be hopeful ineasing any worries. Months later, and
still not feeling well, she wasdiagnosed with stage four cancer that had spread
(05:28):
to multiple spots in her body. And she is fighting. She is so
strong and unbelievably loved by many, dozens upon dozens of clients, friends,
co workers have reached out to seehow she is doing and how to help.
There is no one more loyal, more giving, more deserving of a
(05:48):
Christmas wish and if I dare aska Christmas miracle, Kathy, thank you?
Yeah, yeah, what what ayear. I'm so sorry about your
husband And that happened suddenly right right, That was a shock and it was
(06:13):
the last year. And then youthought that this was like a health concern
that would be taken care of,and it has not gone exactly the wave
that was anticipated. How are youdoing right now? What medically, gyp,
medically, emotionally anything you want toHow are you? How is Kathy
(06:33):
today? Well? I'm just kindof trying to make one day at a
time. Yeah, well that iswhat Chris, That's what Christmas wish does
is kind of makes your days alittle bit easier. And if we could
wave a wand and change everything,we would. But people like Jenica and
the people who listen to KTERBB wantto help you out. So we asked
(06:54):
Jenica, what might make your Christmasa little bit better. So we've got
some things for you, some thingsthat are practical, some things that are
nice, some things that are maybea little bit more fun whatever. So
we're gonna start off with something small, Kathy, something small. Part of
your Christmas wish. You will gettwo pair of new Sketcher shoes because everybody
(07:17):
needs some comfy tennis shoes. AmI right right? I could do someone.
Okay, you got those. We'vegot a two hundred dollars SPA Finder
gift cards so when you get achance, you can go to the SPA.
We've got a three hundred dollars CVSgift card, three hundred dollars CUB
Foods gift card for you, twohundred dollars at Holiday Station for a gap
(07:43):
for gas if you're driving back andforth. Or errands or appointments or whatever.
Thanks to holiday, we got aking size Cassaaluna foam mattress topper.
Is this something that you asked for? Jenica? Tell me about this.
She had the hip surgery and she'sbeen really uncomfortable sleeping in the bed that
(08:05):
she's in right now, so shekind of like sleeps on the couch sometimes
and shuffles around the house wherever she'scomfy. Okay, We've also got a
Ninja blender to help make some healthysmoothies. And but the big one that
I'm really excited about, and thiswas I think something that Jennica, what
do we talk about? A megamotion power lift recliner chair from Home Furniture.
(08:28):
Now, tell me about this. This is something that you feel that
you need or the Jenika that youneed right right, But I don't need
the mega power you get in thetop of the line. Top of the
line. That's that's from Home Furniturethat's going to be delivered tomorrow. And
I want to let you know thatright outside your front door there is a
(08:50):
guy named Brandon and he's with CollegeMuscle Movers, and he's brought by all
your gift cards and the blender andthe sketchers and the mattress topper and all
all of that. Brandon, areyou outside the front door right now?
I'm outside? Okay. So ifyou there's this strange looking guy outside,
it's okay. That's just Brandon fromCollege Muscle Movers. And he's got all
of your stuff except for the megamotion powerlift recliner from home Furniture. Okay,
(09:15):
okay. And this is all justbecause you know, it's been an
unbelievably tough year. And as weall listen and to Kathy's story and we
think about the problems that we're facingduring the holidays, and we're like,
oh, I don't know what toget my mom for Christmas? Or are
we gonna host? Are you gonnahost? Or the tree is too big
(09:37):
or that whatever, the tree istoo small. We think it's about the
problems that most of us are worriedabout a Christmas. And you think about
somebody who lost their husband, losttheir partner, lost some income. And
tell me a little bit about yourdaughter, Kathy, and you you you
have to take you get to takecare of your daughter. Well, it
was she works, but she doesn'thave a driver's license. So I got
(09:58):
to give her rise to work andpick her up in the morning, get
her back home. Okay, Gosha. And then Kathy, are you are
you going to appointments regularly, Kathy? Or what's the status right now?
Right? I have I have aYeah, every three weeks, I go
to a radio or chemo, andI'm almost done with that. But then
I got to go for more.I mean, I'm always going to the
(10:20):
doctor every every three weeks doing something. Listen to how Katy talks about this.
Kathy talks about this like she's talkingabout getting her sink fixed. You
know what I mean. It's justto you, Kathy, your attitude is
wonderful. There's no there's no likelooking for sympathy in your voice. There's
no feeling sorry for yourself. Youare just doing your thing the best you
(10:41):
can. Right. Well, that'swhat you have to when you're when you're
the mom, you know, yougot to just keep making yourself go with
from one day to the next toget us through this, this this trial.
You know, That's why I sayone day at a time, one
day at a time. Well,Kathy, I'm gonna let you say goodbye
to Janica before you put her onhold, though, we have to tell
(11:01):
her about the added bonus that TreasureIsland gave us. All yeah, this
is news to me. Tell meabout this just added in so I know
we we don't want to miss this. But Treasure Island is giving the double

package with that one with Treasure Island, and that'll be cool if you get
a chance to go down to TI. Thanks to t I for doing that.
I didn't know that. Yeah, thank you for so much for throwing
that in Treasure Island. I'm goingto let you say good bye to Jenica,
and we're gonna let you get onwith your day because I'm sure you've
got a busy day right well, because if the door I have my night
