A positive message in a negative climate. That’s what the band Messer would like to convey in their song “Make This Life”. It’s a song about unity and was written after the past election. Rather than sitting back and blame storming, the band made a conscious effort to not take a side. But encourage everyone to put their differences aside and work together. Lead singer and creator of the band Dereak Messer is this weeks special guest on the DOMKcast. The latest band to come out the Deep Elum music scene in Dallas, Tx. The band Messer has actually been around for awhile. The guys used to run around with Pantera years ago. Dimebag made an effort to give the the band their name and told Dereak they should go by “S***faced”. Needless to say Dereak opted for his last name “Messer”.

Dereak has had some tremendous opportunities over the course of his career. Having tried out to be the lead singer of Alice In Chains after Layne Staley’s death. That gig inevitably went to William Duval. Messer’s self titled album is out now. A few of the songs were inspired by Toto’s “Africa”. Despite the influence, flute solos were nowhere to be found on the new album. Maybe on the next one.

Everybody in the band is admitted dog lovers so it made sense to adopt a tee-cup poodle which one of the bandmates gained after a failed relationship. The little guys name is Oscar and according to Dereak, gets more attention from the lady’s than anybody in the band. Messer’s touring will continue for the next few months in various places around Texas. They hope to add more dates throughout the year. Enjoy the full conversation with Dereak Messer on episode 61 of the DOMKcast.
