Talk Line with Zev Brenner, America'spremier Jewish broadcast on the year since nineteen
eighty one. And now here's yourhost. Welcome back to the program,
(06:38):
Mom, Zev Brenner with us onceagain. Gabe Gel, Director of public
Relations, Manager of Wine Education fromCatamoral Wines. You need any I think
questions answered about wine. Gabe isthe person who can answer those questions.
Good to have you back, Agood cavenchhare at you in your family.
You good, Thank God, ThankGod. Time just flies by. So
(07:00):
sucas you have people have more ofan opportunity to drink different kinds of wines
because every day they can try somethingdifferent. It's a beautiful time of year,
people eating in the succer. Sowhat's on your hit lists of wines
that people should consider for the festiveholiday of Sukote? You know something that
I love about splickers? You knowyou have so many meals, so many
(07:21):
gas. Uh, you know,it's it's really a great time. And
you don't unlike Tessa, you don'thave that you know, those rules for
that of castles. You know, with you know how much wine you need
to drink and how fas you haveto drink it, so you really can
shoot anything anything you like. Sothis year I'm gonna go with great wines
(07:46):
and Italy. For instance, Terajust said, like you, Douccio,
it's a super Tescan. So it'sa blend of different great varieties that is
made in Tuscany, but not necessarilyfrom you know, great varieties that are
indigenous to uh to Tuscany. Andthis wine is just incredible and complexity.
(08:09):
You know, it's a different experiencethan all those great California and Israeli wine
and even Bordeaux wines that we arethat we are used to, and really
something that I highly recommend the setup you do. So it'll is a
great place for wines, and it'sgood for Yuma and anytime during the year,
(08:33):
and of course for so cod somepeople want to in Israeli wine,
So people want to go to Israelfor a wine. What would you recommend
what would you suggest so Israel anywine. There's a winery in Israel,
very dear to my heart only it'sTota Winery. Winery is a boutique winery
that has established in two thousand andsix. That's when they attended the vineyards
(08:58):
in the Lower Gelli, but sistedand drive from to the area. And
the wine maker who's a good friend, Piermyadovnik. He has been making wine
for over forty years burst in Europe, in France, mainly, also a
little bit in Spain, and thenhe made Alia and he makes wine there
and he makes wine up the waves. Been making wine for so many decades
(09:20):
in Europe, and he just releasedthe wine called Metspen the Toime sen GSM,
which is a Roan style wine, and it's an absolutely beautiful wine layered,
but it's also very approachable. Eventhough it's young, it's very approachable.
It's very drinkable now, even thoughit will improve. It's you know,
(09:43):
putting in a cellar ail in thewine cooler for years. But it's
really an amazing wine that has aroller blackberries, black pepper, a little
you know, it's a little spicy, but it's also full Baddy and reach
great great wine the top that's beenGSM. Wow. So that's some good
choices, is there. I'm curious, is there any statistics is how many
(10:07):
people made all the other were winemakersand now took their winery concept and brought
it tisram. That's an interesting category. Yeah, I mean Pierre is not
the only one. There are manywine makers in Israel who made a yah
who who were not born there. So, for instance, you have the
head winemaker at the Barcan Winery, which is one of the largest wineries in
(10:28):
the in the country. His nameis Body Diet. It's French born.
He studied wine making and analogy inBordeaux in France, and he made aliyah
with his family when when he wasyoung and uh uh you know Iraqs you
have will also since segot wineries SamSloka, who is Canadian born, or
(10:52):
Shilo Wineries, which is expanding thisyear, right, I mean I tell
me they're expanding. They're big.Yes, So Shilo is about to inaugurate
their brand new facility, gorgeous wineryin uh in the same in the same
place where they are now. It'sreally like, you know, down the
block from from their current facility andit's going to be amazing. This is
(11:18):
something to look forward to and willbe quite the destination for anyone who did
Israel. Uh and uh wants tovisit a great winery. She's no winery.
It's not just about the wine, about the story. It's about Ampi
himself. It's about the place, you know, where the Michigan stood for
hundreds of years before the best ofMikdush was built in your time. It's
(11:43):
just so incredible. There's so muchto it, and you know, it
makes the whole wine drinking experience uhso much so much better on so many
different levels. Before I let yougo, be remiss if I didn't say,
what would you recommend as a sparklyor rose wine for the holiday?
There is actually a wine that isnot completely new. Uh. It's it's
(12:05):
the rough Chat something rose already cameout about two years ago. And you
know what, when it came outfirst, I really liked it, But
now I love it. That's treatedan example of a wine that has aged
well. Sometimes people think that,oh, wow, well I can't you
(12:26):
know age wine. I don't havethe room. I'll have a patience for
it. Uh. So in thisparticular case. You know the we've done
the job for you. You knowit's aid in Royal's warehouse, it's aids
in wine stores. Uh and theand the wine has not reached perfect maturity,
really drinking beautifully. So if you'venever tasted the rough chat Something Rose,
(12:50):
you must get it. If youhave had it before, you should
have it again because it's gonna beeven better than last time. Which advertises
as the wine that sells itself, you haven't months to keep wanting to have
it again. Yeah, exactly, you know, right, the wine that
sells itself. Of the wine thatyou have it once, you keep on
reordering because people love it. Theseare all excellent choices for the holidays.
(13:11):
So I want to thank you forgiving us some I was gonna say food
for thought or wine for drink forthe holidays. Gabe is director of public
Relations, Manager Wine Education kidem RollWine's Gabe Yeller, thank you for joining
with us. A hot cusher Semato you and your family, Happy holidays,
Good get bench busy, all thebest to aman Amane. I'll drink

(18:03):
two sixty six Nostman Avenue in BrooklynHardware. Folks, you're listening to Talk
Line with Zev Brenner, America's premierJewish broadcast on the year since nineteen eighty
one. Now and we're back. It's been a while, but sunder Rapper
is always a great guest. He'shelping feed hungry people. He does it
(18:26):
all year round, but holiday time, especially around the Jewish New Year,
he's in full force. And ontop of that, he's helping the migrants,
the asylum steers coming to New Yorkas well. So as sender,
welcome back to the program. Iknow we're speaking to your in first Avenu
in Manhattan, as we're talking toyou, right we are. I'm standing
in front of Sunset Park building,so that's the you see that there must
(18:52):
be a tense right outside it.So I am here in Brooklyn Sunset Park
Park, a new sons of Parkingsin Brooklyn, but you were in Manhattan.
We'll talk about the relief efforts.I mean, I know that you're
giving out tons of food for theJewish New York. People have families to
feed, and holiday time is morestressful pass over time. I think it's
(19:14):
probably your busiest time. But Russia, Shanna sook Us also is up there
especial people now need more help.Right, You're probably seeing much more people
coming to you. So yes, during the holiday season people need more help
with food. The basic reasons isthere's less work days, then the kids
are home from school more, andthen there's like course related to the holiday,
(19:38):
and it turns out that people needmore help. And sometimes you know,
people get by with some cereal andyou know a little cracker or something,
but for the holiday, everybody wantssomething nice and decent. So that's
when even people who are embarrassed tocome for charity to get that extra pressure
and they end up coming for help. We also have a special thing that
(20:00):
we do with door Dash where wecan give people food by delivery. So
it's not a a full I wouldsay it's still in its beata stage,
but we're for the last fifteen monthswe have been sending people food using door
Dash. We have done with themmore than one hundred thousand deliveries by now,
(20:22):
and they're donating everything. It's totallyfree for us. So they're doing
a big midst getting people off thebreadline, less stigma and sending out a
lot of food that way. Sothat's one thing we do be four jumped,
and then we have the jumpt ofSoudas. People will be eating at
the Musba off Bora Park for Rushashana. I remember the first year we did
(20:45):
Russiashana had the soup kitchen and Icame in and there was a mother and
her fourteenage daughters there and I said, oh, all the hard work was
worth it because it was very challenging. You could imagine you Ama is on
triple rate if you call him infor Russiashan and things like that. It
was very challenging. You know, you get all the special foods in the
simus and you know all the rushcabus and everything. Forgive me, there's
(21:11):
some construction going on if you're gettinga little extra feedback here, So there
is there's all the special foods thatthe junta is all the Googles and all
the simuses and all the special Shahioniansimonim and we make it all happen with
the help of so many donors whocome forward. So that's our jumpt of
(21:32):
challenge. And then in addition tothat, for the last thirteen months,
since last August, we've been helpingout with people who are coming to America
running from different atrocities and seeking opportunity. We know er Tousrola is the Promised
Land, but to some people allover the world, America is the promised
Land, and they want to comehere and start their life from new And
(21:55):
we're trying to be real New Yorkersor real yeven rah Mona on them and
give them a real shot and havinga chance of rebuilding their lives here in
America. So I want to getto the margarints in just a few moments.
But getting back to your core mustbe as more than just soup kitchens.
You provide food. I love theidea that with door dash are you're
(22:18):
giving out. I guess soon youcan deliver via drones as well. Right
have you thought about the look wewere struggling. There was a point where
there was a lot of food outthere, donated and government sources, and
we were thinking, how can weget more food to people. Actually now
as the other now we're very challengedwith food. Food costs are very high,
(22:41):
a lot of resource to that wereavailable during COVID are not available anymore.
So we're relying a lot more onso block of dollars to be able
to share food with people. Butat one point we said, what can
we do to get more people?Maybe we should do delivery And we were
trying and it was COVID and wasvery challenging, and then Doordesh called us
(23:03):
up and said do you want this? And I said, wow, this
is so from Hashem And we wentand we try them out and we saw
that was real so to speak, because it sounded too good to be true.
And then be by now I'm prettysure day already we cost them probably
over a half a million dollars.Like it's really like beautiful what they're doing,
(23:29):
just helping so many people. Imaginethe logistics. Just think of it.
If you get a trailer load ofchicken and you need to have everybody
come and pick it up. It'sa big logistics for everybody to come pick
it up. But if you getit delivered, you don't even need a
freezer. You just get the truckoff the truck onto the motorcycles who deliver
them, and it's distributed the sameday, within a few hours. There's
(23:53):
also something else very special that weend up doing and then it still happens.
Now. So let's say we gota nice amount of score dated militics
from a Hadron, so they gaveus like it had only two weeks on
it. Right, So we havea small list of widowed and worse families,
(24:15):
families of widow and the worst mothers, and we quickly got all the
militics, we got all the dairystuff. We got delivered to those families
so fast that they still had maybeten days to two weeks still to use
them. So a lot of theyou know, we even did that in
shorter range. We had some delione time last year that had three days
(24:36):
left. Same day it arrived herefrom Keiko, the Kadam company, Right,
they have a deli line that theydo. We got it here same
day. It was distributed by everybodyto eat that day. So kind of
it helps with a lot of interestingthings. This idea that we could have
or dash. Wow, it's amazingthat they do the delivery. And you
(24:59):
had I mentioned before, Gus,how many thousands of foods do you give
away before let's say a holiday seasonlike Russia Shana and a given day,
not even Russia Shana. We giveaway a few hundred pickups in every of
our locations every day. So thinkof it as three hundred families come to
every Musbia every day and we havethree locations. But then in addition to
(25:22):
that, we then have families whosigned up. We got different lists from
all different local cahillas. We thenasked everybody who wants help. Those who
responded are getting are on our list. We have between Barto Park and Flatbush
alone. That's where we do thesedeliveries, be Bar Park and Flatbush alone.
(25:45):
We have about three thousand families thatget deliveries. Is it not including
in the pickupsies alone? Yeah?People think and I have to say that
according to statistics, why people think, oh Jews are wealthy, there's so
many poor Jews. I think, what the Jews of the second and third
minority in New York and when itcomes to poverty levels here to say,
look, the good thing with theJewish community is that the rich and the
(26:08):
poor lift together. There's no classdivide, so there's a lot of One
of the highest deposits of banks ison thirteen two Avenue and Barrow Park,
but there's also a big must Beat and Barro pright right, So there's
the good thing is that we arehappy to share. There are a lot
of good people happy to share. So it's not like the rich move out
(26:32):
or the poor move out. Welift together. Everybody gets the same sized
towel when they go to the mikva. It's the same shoel, the same
everything. It's it's you know whatI mean, it's very you know,
the fishmonger and the stockbroker sit onthe same table and shoel, so it's
kind of like very So that's agood thing. It's it's it's kind of
(26:53):
there is the rich and the poorin the same community, which makes it
easier in some way for up upwardmobility and makes it easier for sharing.
Maybe you should move must Be officenext door to the bank. So one
of the banks from Park. Ourmain office actually was very close to the
banks. But yeah, because actuallythere Must Be off Queens was actually sharing
(27:17):
the wall with the bank. Okay, this way people can make of the
positive the bank and will also helpedMusbia. But the beauty is just for
our audience. I mean that beaware. One of the biggest concept in
Judaism when you give charity the highestformers that the person shouldn't feel embarrassed to
receiving it. So therefore, whenthey're getting a door dash people they're next
to, the neighbor doesn't know ifthey get any delivery from Musbia or from
(27:37):
the supermarket because there's no way, there's no big sign that says Musbia delivery
exactly exactly. We speak with sendthe Rappaport. He's the founder director of
Musbia. They are tremendous work. They are not just soup kitchen because you've
heard they delivered thousands, one thousandsof meals daily to people who need it.
This is zeph Runna take it forme. If you're look at to

You're listening to Talk Line with ZevBrenner, America's premier Jewish broadcast on
the year since nineteen eighty one.And now we speak with Send the Rappaport.
(32:38):
He's the founder director of Masbia. They are tremendous work. They are
not just soup kitchen, because you'veheard they delivered thousands, one thousands of
meals daily to people who need it. Now, I was talking to Fleischer
just a little while ago, andyou mentioned the work that Mazbia is doing
with the migrants. So that's aseparate area, right because basically dealing with
(33:00):
feeding especially people in our community, but anybody who's hungry, you'll feed.
But how'd you get involved in workingand helping the migrants. What slowly happened
is when you operate a kitchen likethis and we do a lot of food
rescue, like I told you before, when we got stuff from Mahadrian or
from Cako, we eventually get getto know this one has this available,
(33:22):
this one has that available, andwhen a crisis hits. I sometimes was
able to say, oh, there'sa crisis in Haiti, let's send supplies
to Haiti, because I knew thisone has supplies to donate and that one
has supplies to donate, and wewere able to do that. Or I
even remember sending it's almost like morethan ten years ago, sending lots of
(33:46):
meat to Oklahoma after a big tornadobecause I knew the people in one of
the kosher slaughterhouses who had lots ofbeef to give away that wasn't for kosher
consumption and ended up going to Oklahoma. So sometimes the knowledge helps me do
things. And slowly it started becominga little bit more formalized under the name
(34:10):
than mus Be a relief team, and we started responding to different crisises.
So let's say there was the wedid for Puerto Rico, we did for
Haiti, we did for the Afghanrefugees who arrived there. We did for
more local stuff. There was theBronx fire. There was even a big
(34:31):
fire here in Brooklyn that we helpedthem have a nice Thanksgiving dinner. Things
that we do outside of our facility. We started getting it. We went
to Kentucky, twice in the lastcouple of years where there was a flood
and we helped them over there. So we ended up doing a little bit
of a Jewish response to people incrisis. And we actually now let me,
(34:58):
let me try to go inside here. So this is our tent and
our here in the Sunset Park.We actually printed bags and we have with
love from the Jewish community. Welove from the Jewish communities on the banks
exactly. So let's see if Ican find it here. Yeah, there's
one right here, very nice.Yeah, So we printed it on the
(35:22):
boxes and different things as we distributestuff, and the idea is to share
to to you know, maybe wecannot fix everything for the people who are
in the crisis, but the showthat we care, that we can share
a little bit or something is somethingthat we want to do as a community.
And there's a lot of good peopleout there who join us. So,
(35:44):
like I remember going to the Bronxfire. You remember the fire right
last year in January. Yeah,it was mainly a Muslim African community,
and we went here from Boro Parkwith a bar Park Schomram and other Schomram
groups and we ended up going therethe first day with toothbrushes and toothpaste,
(36:05):
and towels and soap, and we'veput up a big pot of soup on
with a propane tank, you knowwhat I mean. And we were giving
out. It was in the winter, right, so we were doing a
lot of things. People saw whatwe do, people came forward and we
stayed there for two weeks just sharingwhat people came forward to give us.
And we took lots of the familiesin the building shopping at Target. And
(36:28):
everything we did was with the helpof people. So basically we go ahead
and start an initiative, but thenwe continue it with the help. We
put up a page, let's sayit was there must be a relief dot
org slash bronx fire, and peopledonated to that page until people until we
didn't spend every nickel down. Wewere there for two weeks giving the people
(36:51):
relief. Similar happened last year whenwe heard that people are coming to the
port authority made big news, sowe reached out the city hall if they
need help, and it started withthis that they said, oh, a
lot of people coming without shoes. If we can come and help with shoes.
We thought we're gonna come and givethem a nice breakfast as they come
(37:14):
off the boss or something, somesandwich or something. But then what they
needed is shoes. Shoes is waymore expensive than one meal. But we
ended up giving out thousands of pairsof shoes over there. We cleaned out
dozens of walmarts of all their shoesall around New York. Yeah, and
well, we made this pop upshoe store inside the building of the Port
(37:37):
Authority. We turned it into likea mini triage mini Ellis Island. Eventually,
the people, the powers that be, the Port Authority police and so
they didn't like what the ballgan wewere doing, so they we were asked
to stop coming. We eventually starteddoing more relief work in other places.
We started doing relief work by goingto hotels where they were and bringing them
(38:00):
clothing. I had a C.Shingam On here in bar Park who has
an online business. They gave usthe last year or two years ago season
of all kinds of children's clothing, like more than fifty thousand dollars worth of
closing brand new, and we wouldgo to those shelters and give them those
winter clothes. All of last year. We had Leon Goldenberg, you know
(38:22):
Lean Leon donated. He donated steeltoe shoes so people can go to construction
sites and make a book. Youknow, you could be a day laborer
if you you know, because youneed an ocean class to go on a
construction side and get a job.You need to have an ocean class.
You need to come with steel toeboots. So he helped us donate that.
(38:45):
So throughout the year we did alot of things with them, and
here we are, and we're stillhere thirteen months in. We have this.
So inside over here there is thisbuilding where the city put out cots,
almost similar to what you would seeafter a hurricane. There's just a
(39:06):
little place where people can come andhave a sleep. There's a there's some
showers and some because there's a swimmingpool here in the summer, and there
is bathrooms. But it's not reallya you know, a place for people
to be, but it's it's onthe city the emergency response that it's a
it's an option. So when whenthe other systems were overwhelmed, they started
(39:27):
using this. Just a couple ofweeks ago and we opened up this tent
and this tent was so popular. The city appreciated so much what we did
here. In addition to obviously thepeople who are so appreciative, is that
the city asked us to maybe replicatethis in others. So we're in conversation
with them now how to replicate thisand do this in more places. We
(39:49):
actually have a nice drive that we'regoing to do in Manhattan actually on some
Goodalitia, the youth group of KilasJessure and Congregation Kilas Jessure and the youth
there's going to be collecting stuff forus as well. Those are just an
end. And you're speak with SenderRappaport that he's a founder of must Beer.
They are a soup kitchen by theFood Network and Relief Network helping people
(40:10):
not just in the Jewish community.Let me ask you a question. Somebody
comes from a foreign country where therearen't any Jews, or even from from
Africa, and there you are. We're in Hasidic you know, Gallia,
Casita gard They've never seen a Jewor Hasidic Jew. So is there some
sort of culture shock? Do theyeven though what a Jew is? When
you say, hey, we're fromthe Jewish community, welcome you. Do
(40:32):
they know? Some do, butdo a lot don't know. Tell me
eventually they know one tells the other, but it is. It is interesting.
Actually most of the summer I washere with my titzus. Today is
a cooler day, so I'm actuallyhere with my head and my record.
But usually most of the time Iwas only here with my tits, my
(40:53):
Volna titzus. The way they sayin the Bartow Park, the wolves,
the wool and Titus is right, yeah, yes, so, but yeah,
we were here and we look atyou say who are you? Do
they know? I mean, I'msure sus being shock and right. And
that's why we put out what weput out. We try to have the
(41:14):
you know, our bags printed withwhat we are and what we represent and
what we stand for. And yeah, don't worry. All of them eventually
figure it out. And and letme tell you, we had taken this
down for a couple of days, and then I came to the park and
they were all new to to,oh you're the guy, when are you
bringing back? Like they were brokenEnglish or whatever, asking me like showing
(41:34):
me with their hands, when areyou bringing back the tent? Then we
brought it back again and and andso so they all know who I am
and what from where I'm coming from. So yeah, it doesn't it's not
too complicated. It comes through veryeasily. Now, one of the things
that we hear larvae against it fromthe ult Orthodox community is they don't really
(41:59):
help be on their own. Ithink what you're doing is showing and you're
getting not just yourselves, but you'regetting people to donate massive amounts of money
and goods to help people beyond theJewish community. So I think that source
must be an eye opener for somepeople who think the community is so winsua
that doesn't help beyond its borders.Yeah, look, it's it's very interesting
(42:19):
to me. You can see peoplefrom every community or happy to share.
Now it give people people who aremore to the other side, and then
the same people need to be nurtured. And one of the things they're missing
in this story of the asylum seekersis there's very little stories in the news
about the plight of where the peopleare running from. There's also very little
(42:42):
that you hear from politicians that no, we can do this. We are
America. This is what we thisis what the Thattch of Liberty in the
New York Harbor stands for, welcomingpeople running from places and kind of I
think there's that void, a littlebit of that leadership where saying no,
we can do it. We arethe nation that sends people to the moon.
(43:04):
We have army ships as big ascities. We can be the city
that could share more, the nationthat can share more. And guess what,
even the economists say the economy needsa few million new people. So
why not do it in a happyand exciting and mobilized way that yes,
we are really happy and willing toshare. It's just so much of a
(43:29):
better approach. So hopefully we doa little bit here, another one does
a little bit dere, and morepeople get nurtured into do no. We
we're excited to share. Now,Yes they're fly Ser who's from Argentina speaks
Spanish, told me that here heis also were in Hasida, garb and
speaking to the people in Spanish, right, so he helped us. You
(43:52):
know, he's one of the peoplewho who saw what we're doing. And
he called me up. When youneed help, call me because I could
speak Spanish. And it was soexciting that he was able. Especially when
you're giving out shoes and its numbersand fittings and stuff. And it's just
so helpful when someone comes in volunteers, and it was really amazing. And
(44:14):
also they put a smile on thepeople's faces. Like you said, they
noticed if someone looking very Jewish likeif it stuck and he was able to
talk to them. So it wasvery nice and very beautiful. So let
me look at the flip side ofthe corn. We know that in certain
areas of the city, staff niland other areas to saying we don't want
the migrants in our backyard creates allkinds of problems. Do you get any
(44:37):
blowback from people saying, why areyou helping the migrants? They're here illegally,
they're creating problems and we're player tostay. Do you hear from that
as well from some of the people. The people give you a hard time
about that, but it comes frommisinformation. I was here. There was
one day. The first day therewas like anti protest, but then they
(44:57):
were dwarfed by the thousands of dollarsand stuff were getting donated here. And
they were even from out of town, like they weren't from they weren't from
the neighbors. But anyway, Istart a conversation with them, you know,
me you know, I see peopleI I don't hate anybody, even
if they're haters. I just goand start a conversation with them and I
show them about you know, thisis a pool here and you're bringing people.
Said and what about the other peoplein the park? How are they
(45:20):
vetted? And I said, youknow what, let me say I never
met any of these asylums because it'smy first day here. And I went
over and I hugged each one ofthem. I said, what is your
problem? Why are you so scaredof them? And then the guy looked
at me, you know, you'reright, like what what? How how
would I know which one is theperson who was here in the park that
is in America a day before, and which one is the person? And
(45:40):
how is it? Why do youwhy do you even think? What is
the statistics about Some of the lightsin the park are starting the flickers,
So if you see any flickering, that's what it is. So the the
what am I saying? The chancesof a person who came to America as
(46:05):
an asylum seeker doing a crime isstatistically way lower than any American doing a
crime. That even like say,you don't know it just doesn't have any
connection to reality. But here's whatpeople saying. You probably heard, oh
the empty out to jails in somecountry. They say, why should we
feed the convicts. Let's ship intoAmerica, get the war for our roles.
(46:27):
We're going to bring the drug dealersand we're going to bring the terrorists.
And right, you've heard no,no, no, so I First
of all, no, I didn'thear it. But but no, I
I it doesn't make any sense. The person who has the perseverance to walk
through the jungle to come to America, don't you want that person as an
American citizen. That's the person youhave a problem with. A person that
(46:52):
wants to give their children a betterlife that they would walk through a jungle
for that. That is, that'snot that's the first person you want to
hire as an employer. How allthis all this nonsense? It is just
And that's what I'm saying. It'swhat's missing in the conversation is nurturing the
good world of the people. Andpart of it is this narrative why they're
(47:15):
drug dealers? Why do you thinkso? I've been hanging around with them
all the time. It happens tobe a lot of them are in this
place now, are from from Africa, from from Sudan, running away from
the war there, and they're they'realmost Hasidic in a way, in a
in a in a you know,in a poetic way. They I mean,
(47:38):
they're very religious. There was therewas a reporter, a woman came
into the tent. So they allleft the tent, right, They're they're
very religious. And why why whywhy you think of them as as drug
dealers? What triggered you? Like? How O? Why no? I
(48:01):
think what to listen? I thinkthe majority are people who are going through
all kinds of horrible situations, whethereconomic or persecution. But there are others
that are taking advantage, Like atleast that's what the media is reporting.
They're taking advantage. We have ourown, we have our own drug dealers
to deal with. We don't haveto speculate on more people than there are
(48:22):
drug dealers. It's just false. It's false in every level. The people
who are here. I lost mythought. The people are here are in
every way that the fact that peopleare talking about only the let's say there
is a drug dealer, is therea bigger percentage drug dealers? And there
isn't and the fact that there isa red herring, it's just so misled.
(48:47):
Instead of let's take this for arguments, say so you could understand from
what political vantage point the naysayers are, so think of it. If there
is a you're gonna say Republicans, right for the most part, then you're
a Democrat. So yeah, Solet's say what I'm just saying for argument's
sake. So here there is someonewho was against the socialist government in Venezuela.
(49:14):
Yeah, and the government was tryingto persecute that person for his capitalistic
ideas. Right, So now he'srunning to America, and who is against
him? Now? The people whowaived the capitalistic flag. You get what
I'm saying. I hear it.Say, but I think the issue is
more complicated because there has to bea better system. Listen, if you
(49:36):
want to bring a million people anddo it legally, don't have open borders.
This is legal. What do wemean to do it legally? You're
this is this is part of theline that's been portrayed. This is legal.
What they are doing is asking forasylum. There's no illegal way to
ask for asylum. The word usinglegal or illegally is a fake because these
(49:57):
people are here legally, they askfor asylum. And if if everybody who
says illegal is just simply lying orintentionally lying, these people are here legally,
there is no way to be askingfor asylum illegal. But are they
question they vetted? Do they dowhen you went to vet? The question
(50:21):
of vetting comes afterwards? So isthere someone who is ready to pay for
the bill for vetting? So whathappens is and again I don't want to
get into the political side of this. You can't cut the budgets of all
judges for asylum and all the icepeople of her asylum and then say well,
we need a lot of vetting,So put in a budget for a
(50:45):
lot of vetting, because by lawthe United States is required to give them
to honor their asylum requests and bringthem before a judge. So all of
this is, That's what I'm saying, is missing leadership, the fact that
an honest person like you can askme this question questions because because the people
are fed a false narrative, andthere's missing your leadership, because leadership is
(51:07):
not saying no, we are Americanand ready, willing and able to do
what our law and our history. But but again there's there's no there's but
there's no plan. Even Mayor Adamis saying, too many being shipped here,
we can't handle it. There isno plan to accept them. There
has to be a better system inplace that if you're going to have so
many people coming in to provide, you're providing food for them. Right,
(51:30):
So we agree, we agree weneed a better system to accommodate them.
That is, not to not accommodatethem or to or to cast them as
drug dealers. Right. No,I didn't say, I didn't say everyone's
a drug dealer. But the thingis, no, you're not saying you're
you're asking the question for people, right so right now, and I've heard
I've heard people saying, you know, and and there's the other talk.
(51:52):
It's such it's such an outlandish idea. But you admit there are some drug
dealers, some convictions. I'm noteven admitted. No, I'm admitting that
you that some people like to talkabout drug dealers when they talk about a
silence is I have yet to seeone? Why do I need to admit,
Well, I'm just saying proportion thereare some that have and that's you
know, I don't have the statisticsin front of there, but there are
(52:13):
people who will argue with you onthis very issue. Yeah, so the
statistics are that they are less drugdealers than regular Americans. Okay, but
we're gonna have to continue this conversationbecause but let's put this way. The
matter that they're here, they needhelp, whether they came in and whether
you like that to hear or not, they need to be fed, they
need to have clothing, they needto have shelter. They're here and that's
(52:37):
what you're doing. And we canargue that the system should be better,
but as they're here, they needto be helped. And you're doing a
big mitzvah my providing not only forour community and especially during the high holiday
season, but also making sure thatall those whoever were, whoever their religion
or background is, are getting fedand getting clothing and getting provisions so they
(52:58):
could at least that's the truth. So we do this beyond the politics.
You ask me for my opinion,I'll give and I enjoyed that, and
we have to have you back morefor the given tank because we love to
do a call and I'm sure thatthere were going to be people who will
will support you, and people aregoing to take issue with you. That's
the nature of the of the game, right Yeah, But there's also like
(53:21):
there's the fun of the debate. But really the question is what is the
truth, and the truth is thatthe story is not being told right,
so a lot of people get afalse idea. So I can agree.
I can see to you that thenarrative out there has created a falsehood that
create that scares people and it shouldn'tbe. We'll have to continue the conversation.
(53:45):
Send a rapp uport. The foundermust bea and they provide supercission and
food for thousands of people within ourcommunity and need it. But now as
you heard, also helping migrants andthrough the must be a relief network.
