Speaker 1 (00:00):
It has been a week in Broncos country, picking up
two wins against the Houston Texans and the Raiders always
could win.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Column all the way up there.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
Is the Broncos move and continue to move up in
the standings despite the Thursday night ten to seven egg
laid by the the Broncos. Broncos continue to be tied
with the Colts and Patriots at eight and two, third
overall among net points.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Among those teams, Broncos.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Have scored the least but also allowed the least. Broncos
are perfect five and oh at home. On the other
team to have that would be the Colts, who are
six and o at home, three and two on the
road and have won seven straight matching New England streak.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
And twenty fifteen Super Bowl winning team streak. That is
that is also correct.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
You also struggle on offense, that is also correct. Yes,
as we look at this playoff pictures that started to develop,
the Colts, Broncos and Patriots are pretty much going to
make the playoffs, whether they win their divisions or not.
That I mean that you won eight games at this point.
It would take a monumental collapse from any one of
those three teams too at this point turn.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Around and not make the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
The Pittsburgh Steelers at five and four, I don't know, man,
you're in danger of not even winning your division.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Finally beat the Colts last week and then look that
bad last night on Sunday Night football against Chargers.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Yeah, I don't even I can't even begin to That's
the whole thing I was. That's the exact statement that
I was making last night as I was watching that.
I think we're on fraud watch for two teams, and
I think it's Pittsburgh and Jacksonville.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
I think we're on fraud watch for those two teams.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
And I think there are three teams fighting to get
their way back into this thing, and that's Kansas City,
Houston of Baltimore.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
I think Baltimore is going to win division. I think
I'm gonna win the AFC North.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
They're four and five and Pittsburgh's five and four. They're
not far out. Both those teams are about the same
in net points. Pittsburgh's at minus eight, Baltimore's at miny six.
The only other team in the playoff picture that's in
the minus category would be Jacksonville at minus fifteen. Meanwhile,
I've got Houston and Kansas City both at positive net
points at seventy six and positive fifty four overall.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
And a lot of those Houston positive points come from
that drubbing of the Ravens.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Right, So just just kind of kind of interesting there.
I think there's, like I said, I don't think Cincinnati
three and six getting back into it with a due respect.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Right, Hey, Joe Burrow back at practice today.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Yeah, we'll limited capacity about that.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
But three and six is a lot tougher road to
hoe than four and five. At this point, we'll see.
I mean, who does lost Manyeah, That's what I'm saying.
That Jets loss, which by the way, cost me a
pretty penny thanks. Last time I bet on Grat Smith's Bengals,
and don't take the cash I was looking. I was
staring the cash out of the face, staring the cash
out of the.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Face laden to the third order and it was a substantial.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Stump, and I was like, Nah, sports books not cheating
me out of this money.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
This money.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
The difference between the cash out and the and the
amount of would one.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Like any idiot gambling problem caller texts one eight hundred gambler.
But I think we are.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
I think we're on fraud watch officially for the Steelers,
and I think we're on fraud watch for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
We'll see, you know, want to collapse by the Jacks.
What I'm saying, I watch, I'm watching that. I'm just like,
oh my god, you got you. We're on fraud watch now.
And and you've got, like I said, three teams really
that have a point differential that's less than or that's
better than negative ten.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Uh, you've got Kansas City Houston both in the positive.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Kansas City is the second highest point differential behind the Colts.
After that it's it's New England, then it's the Broncos,
then it's.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
A Texans, and it's the Chargers.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
But the standings right now have Indie, Denver, New England,
and Pittsburgh. It's the top, with the Chargers, Buffalo and
Jacksonville in the wildcard spots in Kansas City, Houston, Baltimore's
stare and from the outside, we'll see this. This game
coming up is gonna be a big one. It's gonna
be huge. Even at five and four.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Eight and two.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
This puts Denver very much in the in the cross
as you lose this game, and that's rough.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Kind of need to win this one. I really don't
think Cincinnati Miami. The Jets are two and seven.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
The Jets, the Jets raiders Cleveland tests, they are out
of it, like they're not going anywhere. I don't think
Miami at three and seven is going to recover. I
mean it would take winning seven straight, right straight really
because they win the last one, but it would take
winning seven straight from here to put them back in
that conversation. I don't think that's happening. Cincinnati. I mean,
you probably need to do the same thing. You've dropped

(04:41):
two in a row. You had the opportunity at three
and four, you dropped too in a row. So I
just you know, I don't see that. Meanwhile, in the
NFC side, Seattle is beating the brakes off everybody.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Yeah, dude, they crushed yesterday. Now I blinked and they
were up like thirty eight to seven. Arizona never got it.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
I mean like.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Presett got sacked twice, funneled twice, and that caused that
caused him to get up twenty one nothing.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
Marcus Lawrence two fumble return touchdowns.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Yeah, it was.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Just over at that point, I mean, it was over
over at that point. Arizona tried to make some noise
late but but just couldn't quite. Arizona was kind of
caught in that that string of teams from six and
four to three and six that are all sitting there
at like negative ten point differential. Dallas mais fourteen, Minnesota
might as twelve, San Fra min is ten, Chicago minus
eight I think for Chicago is the other probably gonna
win their division. So you know, it's ever Detroit at

(05:31):
this point. So you look at the you know, over
there on the NSC side, and it's it's fascinating as
you look at that Green Bay at five too at one,
I mean, they kind of need to win to night.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
I picked them to win. We'll see. That's a that's
a tough division.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Seattle just running away with it over there, Philly run
away with their division, uh and then Tampa. You know,
so it's it's it's a little less interesting over there
on the NFC side because you really have one team
that's on FRAUDWAYA and that that would be the Bears,
that's that's sitting there at negative but they've won too
in a row. Green Bay Tampa Bay are the ones

(06:07):
you kind of eyeball and now the rest of this
kind of know what they are. So go out to
the KWA coms Borth hotline and bring our guy back
on the show, Ryan Michael at the Ryan Michael, How
you doing, Buddy?

Speaker 4 (06:18):
Doing well? Then it's been a bit, How are you?

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Yeah, it's it has been a little bit, but uh,
you know, I mean, do it all right. We got
a little bit of bad news today about our guy
Alex Singleton, or a mixed bag of news, I guess
I should say overall.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
But looks like he's got had surgery.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
They're gonna, you know, they'll check back in with that
in a couple of weeks see if the surgery got
it all. There's a bit of a tangential connection I
guess with you in Alex Singleton. Yeah, uh, there is
with the is that is that the the Stampeters?

Speaker 5 (06:50):
It is so yeah.

Speaker 4 (06:51):
So I've joined Calgary Stampeters Alumni Association and as their
history and so I'll be writing articles just celebrating the
rich tradition of red and white foot ball up north
in the CFL, and obviously Alex Singleton. When you look
amongst the finest players to come out of the CFL
in the last ten to fifteen years. He's right towards
the very top. Great Cup Champion, twenty eighteen Most Outstanding

(07:12):
Defensive Player of the Year and twenty seventeen for the Stamps.
So yeah, mixedtag of news today. Obviously, sending prayers and
positive energy in his way. We hope for a full
and speedy recovery. He's been playing good football this year.
If you look at his pace eighty nine total tackles
through ten games, that would average out to approximately one
hundred and fifty one to one hundred and fifty two

(07:34):
over a full seventeen game schedule, and he already holds
the Broncos top two single season spots for most total
tackles one hundred and seventy seven in twenty twenty three
and one hundred and sixty three in twenty twenty two.
So he'll be missed, but most important thing is his help.
So sending positive energy in prayers his way.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
There is that. You know, Ryan's been a while, so
we had you on the show.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
I know obviously you were very bullish on Bow when
he was drafted at Take for you victory last last season,
do you do you still stay stand in the same
place that you did with Bo Nicks As as his
development into the twenty twenty five season, seems to have
maybe hit the reverse button.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
It's certainly a step back, and not just from a
box score standpoint. I'd made the point during the offseason
that I expected regression there for Bo. It's really what
I'm seeing on tape. It's the most concerning. It seems
that you know, once his checkdown is locked down, I mean,
he's looking to just break that pocket roll out to
the right, and he's inaccurate there, insurance balls at receivers ankles,

(08:36):
and certainly in the deep game. I don't know if
anybody has more overthrows than both this year or so.
From a statistical standpoint, it's not volume that's the problem.
It's really the efficiency ranks twenty seventh in the NFL
and passer rating twenty seventh in completion percentage, twenty sixth
in interception percentage, twenty sixth in past success percentage. So
he is top five in touchdown passes. You'd like to

(08:58):
see that volume, but he's only fourteenth in the NFL
in touchdown past percentage at five point one, he leads
the leading fact percentage, So in that regard, he's the
antithesis of what Russell Wilson was for us. But he's
also playing behind the best offensive winning the game today.
So I would describe his performance this year as disappointing,
a small step backward. For sure. It's being masked by

(09:20):
the Broncos eight and two record. I don't think we
need to hit the panic button, but I think it's
reasonable to talk about these numbers and to express some concern.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Ryan Michael, let the Ryan Michael on Twitter, as you said,
top ten touchdown passes stop, you know, first down passing
to those in Broncos country who sort of push you
back against the criticism.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
You know, you point to the touchdowns and the wins.
What are your thoughts there.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
Because I mean, you know, I look at this and
I see a head coach who kind of pads the
totals a little by throwing inside the five all the time,
And you know, maybe that's not maybe that number is
is a little misleading, but you know.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
What do you think?

Speaker 4 (09:56):
You know, it's very rare to find quarterbacks who are
lead in both volume production and efficiencies, as with Beater
Peyton Mannings or Tom Brady's or Drew Brees. Those are
freaquent nature situations. It's not the norms, so that though
you have some of the volume theyreers. We discussed that
he's really benefiting by playing behind the best offensive line
in football in by opinion, and a top three arguably

(10:19):
the best defense. And so when you look at the
win loss record Yester eight and two, it's tough to
complain when you've won to get out of ten games.
But you look at an offense at ranked seventeenth in
points per game scored versus defense at ranks third in
points per game surrendered. So you know, in five of
our wins and we scored point totals of twenty one,
twenty eighteen, thirteen to ten. So those five wins, we

(10:41):
averaged sixteen point four points per game. What is this game?
It means without Vance Joseph and without Detalye defense, there's
a very real chance that Denver could be below five hundred.
It could be one of the worst teams in football
if they had a horrible defense. We have one of
the very best. And so I'm thrilled about the win
loss record. But if you're not concerned, then the lack

(11:02):
of efficiency and the lack of point story. Quite frankly,
on the offensive side of the ball, I think we're
going to be in for a rude awakening because the
defense can't do this every single thing.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
Teller Ryan Michael contributed to the Pro Football Hall of
Fame and obviously the historian for the CFL Calgary Stan
Peters now as well Ran Matt Stafford has been one
of those quarterbacks to excel at both. I know you
wrote an article for the Pro Football Hall of Fame
a bottom during the off season. What do you think
about his twenty twenty five campaigns so far?

Speaker 4 (11:32):
In my view, Matt should be the front runner for
NFL MVP, and if his name were Patrick Mahomes wouldn't
be close. Obviously, he leads the league with twenty five
touchdown passes. Nobody else has more than twenty, and again
it's not just volume, it's also efficiency. He's second in
the NFL and Lamar is still technically number one because
he's stilling enough pass at the qualify, but Matt's second

(11:53):
in the NFL and touchdown pass percentage at eight point
one percent. To give you an idea of just how
high that is, if you can air that Tom Brady's
twenty one qualified seasons as a starter only Brady's two
thousand and seven MVT campaign, and he had an eight
point seven ASTOW past percentage is higher than what Matt
Stafford is doing right now. Inflated a little bit by
the league that we're playing in, but it's a very

(12:15):
high number. Any ranked number one in the NFL in
past success percentage of fifty four point nine percent. So
a lot of talent down in LA. But he's playing
the best football of his career, and that's saying something
because he's been one of the more underrated quarterbacks for.

Speaker 5 (12:28):
A long time.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
It's interesting you said Stafford I would have gone with
somebody else in the division there. I think should be
leading the conversation as Sam Darnald, who's throwing to of
course Jackson Smith and Jigba, but also the corpse of
Cooper Cup and some guy named aj Barner, you know,
not necessarily a pokaakoua DeVante Adams kind of supporting cast there.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
Do you really believe that Matt Stafford would have the
edge over Darnald.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
I think that he should, and you know, Sam Donald
made me look pretty foolish last year because he was
both elite in volume introduction and if a se And
when I see quarterbacks like Sam Donald last year in Minnesota,
like Daniel Jones so far this year in Indianapolis, I'm always
very reluctant to proclaim them as a league quarterbacks because
it's a new team, a new situation. So the question

(13:13):
becomes when opposing defensive coaches have more Hall twenty two
to study, when they have a full season of All
twenty two under their belt in that scheme, with that
team in that situation, usually things change. And in the
case of Sam Donald obviously moves over to Seattle and
he's playing even better football than he did in Minnesota
last year. So I certainly can't push back too hard

(13:34):
if he wanted to make the argument for Donald or
for Daniel Jones' league MVP. But given the fact that
Matt's doing what he's doing in the same system, even
acknowledging the wealth of talent around him, full strength that
Matt Stafford's okay.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
We've talked about Sean Payton's Hall of Fame credentials in
other times over the years. Here he is in number
three with the Broncos you know they have co share
best record in the NFL. Right now, is he like Stafford,
you know, a Super Bowl dominant season away from maybe
are having a Hall of Fame resume.

Speaker 4 (14:03):
I think it depends on who you ask, and for me,
what matters more than winning is how you're playing.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
Right.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
So in the Denver Broncos so far your ten games,
seventeenth and twenty three game scored last year, we finished
right at tenth and we got that top ten finished,
although we did have some special teams in defensive touchdowns
last year and in the year with Russ nineteenth and
points per game scored. So I posted a chart on
Twitter last year that compared where the offense is ranked

(14:30):
with Sean Payton Andrew Brees versus Sean Payton, with any
other quarterback. And in fairness to Shawn, we're talking about
a number of years where he was a quarterback coach,
an offensive coordinator, and I think it's fair to acknowledge
and did not have a wealth of talent at the
quarterback position. But if I can give you a quick
rundown where his offense is finished in terms of points
per game scored. Starting in nineteen ninety seven as a

(14:51):
quarterback coach with the Philadelphia Eagles. We're having ranks of nineteenth, thirtieth, twentieth, fifteenth,
twenty first, twenty second, twenty first, twenty fifth, fifteenth, nineteenth, nineteenth,
and then you get over to Denver where you have
the nineteenth.

Speaker 5 (15:03):
To tenth and now seventeenth, and so the.

Speaker 4 (15:04):
Common denominator is without Drew Brees, you're having subpar, below
average offenses coming from Sean Payton, and we're having nearly
a decade worth of sample size, so it's not.

Speaker 5 (15:14):
A perfect comparison.

Speaker 4 (15:15):
We're going a little bit further now into his resume
as a head coach, and this is his hand picked quarterback.
And so Drew Brees was a guy who produced two
top five scoring offenses in San Diego before he went
to New Orleans, and when Sean Payton was out in
twenty twelve, Drew Brees threw for nearly fifty two hundred yards,
led the league in passing yards and touchdown passes with

(15:35):
forty three. Shawn doesn't have anything anywhere close to that
on his non Drew Brees resume. So you look at
eight and two and you would say, listen, he has
brought a winning culture here to Broncos Country, and that's.

Speaker 5 (15:47):
Nothing to be dismissive of the fact.

Speaker 4 (15:49):
That we're winning ballgames defensively as opposed to offenses.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
It is key.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
And listen, I gave Sean a lot of grace when
he was the head coach on teams in Nortons that
had some of the worst defensive football I've seen in
the two thousand times, right, So we give him the
grace when the when.

Speaker 5 (16:04):
The Saints defense because he's an offensive head coach.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
And you say, you know what, that's not his side
of the football. So what I cannot do, man, is
give him that grace when the Saint's defense was near
dead last. But now give him the credit when the
defense in Denver is amongst the best.

Speaker 5 (16:19):
In the NFL.

Speaker 4 (16:20):
So I think that context matters.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
Yeah, I mean they went seven to nine and a
number of times with some pretty poor defenses. There is
Is there anything to Sean Payton sort of being the
John Fox as it were in a lot of ways,
rescuing the franchise for the worl bund clutches of a
first time head coach that was hit over his head.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
Fox did that with with Josh McDaniels and it is.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
Interestingly because Fox's specialty was the defensive side of the ball.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
The Broncos one with the offensive side of the ball.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
Sean Bayden here from Nate Hackett, and they're winning with
the defensive side of the ball instead of the offensive
side of the ball.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
I think the analogy is imperfect, but just in terms
of giving him credit for the change and culture, absolutely
have to give him credit for that. I don't think
anybody been you being number one. We plank in all
of Broacos country, denies Sewn the credit. Being a very
good headdoes right, And of course he deserves credit for
turning around the culture here. But when you're talking Hall

(17:14):
of same right, we're not just talking about being a
great one place and being good somewhere else. We're talking
about being a game changer wherever you go. And so
the big question out of all of those years having
coached and Drew Brees is what would Shawn kayton offense
look like? With Andrew Grees We're getting the answer. And
if we're talking about Sean Pate and the play caller,
Sean Payton, the offensive genius, it's not that it's been awful.

(17:34):
I mean, listen, Bonix's.

Speaker 5 (17:35):
Top five in the NFL and touchdown process, and I would.

Speaker 4 (17:38):
Say his development into year two is probably a bove
where a lot of people would have had him given
where he was drafted.

Speaker 5 (17:44):
But it's not.

Speaker 4 (17:45):
Exactly like we're seeing RG three production the way that
Mike shanahant out of RG three in Washington. So yeah,
it's not Hall of Fame caliber ball here in Denver,
and I think the way that we're winning matters a
lot if we're having that discussion.

Speaker 2 (17:57):
Tucker Ryan Michael v Ryan Michael on Twitter.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
Last week on here, you just talked about Mike Shanahan.
He was named one of the Hall of Fame's nine
coaching semi finalists, log The Belichick, Todd Claughlin, Mike Holgrin,
and others. Where do you rank Shanahan amongst the coaches
he's competing with to get in.

Speaker 4 (18:12):
Ooh, A lot of good names on that list. As
you mentioned, Bill Belichick is obviously the top choice, and
I think you can make a strong argument for Bill
Belichick is the greatest coach of all time, not just
because of his success in New England, but he was
the defensive coordinator between two top two defenses that won
championships of the New York Giants. His run in Cleveland

(18:33):
was not everything that they hope for it to be,
but I do think people forget then in nineteen ninety four,
Bill Belichick coach the Cleveland Runs to an eleven and
five record, the number one defense in the NFL. It's noteworthy.
The eleven and five run with Matt Cassel is noteworthy.
The ten and seven run of Matt Jones in twenty
twenty one is worth noting. Out of all of those names,
Mike Shanahan is easily number two, and my mind is

(18:56):
a big boggle to why he's not yet in the
Pro Football Hall of Fame, because and tell the story
of the NFL with that night Shanahan and what he did,
not just in Denver. Obviously, the success here speaks for itself.
He was the offensive coordinator for the nineteen ninety four
San Francisco forty nine ers Steve Young. It was the
highest rated passing season in the history of the NFL.

Speaker 5 (19:15):
Is top off of a six.

Speaker 4 (19:17):
Touchdown pass performance in the Super Bowl against the Charters.
You'd be hard pressed to find a finer Super Bowl
performance than that.

Speaker 5 (19:24):
And what he did in Washington.

Speaker 4 (19:25):
As I had mentioned, Robert griff and the third out
of all of the rookies in that class, we had
Russell Wilson tied Peyton Manning's rookie record for touchdown passes
Andrew Rutmol's passing yards Dever, for a rookie quarterback, there
was a lot of great rookie quarterback play in twenty twelve.
It was actually Robert griff in the third who was
named the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year. He did
that in Shanahan system, So wherever he went, you saw production,

(19:47):
you saw efficiency. One of the greatest head coaches and
offensive coordinators in NFL history when it comes to the
ground game in his development of quarterbacks, whether we're talking
Steve Young, whether we're talking John Lay, whether we're talking
RG three, whether we're talking some eleite football with even
Brian Griese. I can't say enough about Mike Shannyhan. He's
easily the second best name on that list in my opinion.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
Ryan Michael, always appreciate having you on.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
Congratulations of the new gig with the Calgary Stampeders and
of course with the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
Look forward to talking to Againner soon.

Speaker 5 (20:17):
Thanks Ben, appreciate having me take care.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
Broccos Country night back after this, you know you're on
the road, true freshman.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
The vaunted West Virginia Mountaineers.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
Well, I don't know they were all that good, but
you know, certainly I thought out with a MAC team.
But you know, yeah, you know that's I had to
get that one. I mean, look, I thought it was
a pretty good debut for Juju. I mean, it's one game.
We don't really know. We's seen plenty of small sample
sized quarterbacks Colorado State with Brandon Fowler, Nickelosi, you know,

(20:50):
looked good in those early couple of games, never really
progressed beyond that. Now no longer with the team Drew Locke.
You know, I had five games under Rich Gangarello. He
looked pretty pretty nice. And then you know the next
season happened.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
Only one October and Broncos Country. Yeah, don't google it,
really don't google it.

Speaker 1 (21:11):
I think, you know, we don't know, but I thought
it was as far as a uh freshman performance debut
on the road.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
I thought it was about as good as it was
gonna get. Well, Coach Prime certainly liked what he saw.

Speaker 6 (21:26):
I think he played a good game. It's first start.
He did some wonderful things that you can see that
he's gonna be uh special. He did some things that
you can see his youth. But overall, to me, the
kid played well. He played well enough for us to
win the game.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
Yeah, I don't think you can blame that loss on him.
I think I think O Marion Miller has something if
he gets consistency hit the quarterback position. You got a
receiver there and a Mario Miller who's got a little
something to him. He's a stud, he's an ex level player.
I've been yeah, I've been on him for a while,
just waiting for him to show up, waiting for the
show up. So you know, end of the day, I mean,

(22:06):
see you loses. I don't think that's on the quarterback necessarily,
you know, and we'll see, you get another game of him,
at least here at home. We'll get to kind of
see and then I don't know if they'll go to
stall up to kind of preserve certain things.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (22:18):
They we were talking about that a little bit earlier
on K Sports, whether you keep the red shirt or not.
And I thought Dave Logan had the best point, where
you know, it's up to him. Really, Yeah, just ask
him what he wants to do. You want another year
of eligibility? I mean, if you if you think you're
going to be that great, do you need it? What
do you need for you for?

Speaker 4 (22:35):
Right?

Speaker 2 (22:36):
And that's that's the other part of that.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
But I mean, if you're you ask him and if
you want, you can put stab in for the last
game or whatever and and keep all that intact.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
You know.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
I think the question is whether or not he's here
more so than granity leaves, more so than anything else.
And the question isn't do you want to keep your
red shirt? The question is who do you want is
your off as a coordinator?

Speaker 2 (22:56):
You know. I think that's the real question. When all that,
when all that.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
It's said and done, so you know, I mean I
thought to answer some of the text line and all
that kind of stuff. I mean I thought it was
what else do you want him to do? What else
do you want you to do in that game?

Speaker 3 (23:11):
Yeah, I mean there's a lot of problems with the
Buffs right now, and I think.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
He needs one of them. Yeah, I think you need
a new offensive coordinator.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
I think you need an infusion of talent on the
defensive side. But I don't, I don't really, you know,
I wouldn't put their issues on him. And that's I
think the the case there is whether or not he
sticks around, whether or not he decides to go somewhere else,
and he'll have offers. I mean, he'll have high dollar

(23:39):
offers from some of these programs that you know, desperate
for the quarterback and willing to pay for it.

Speaker 2 (23:45):
Then you look at what Michigan pai. Do you look
at what some of these places pay.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
Yeah, you know it's it's in Miami with Carson Beck.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
Yeah, or Florida State right now in their situation. Yeah,
you know, if you're Florida State, you know.

Speaker 3 (23:59):
But I think because you will also offer him quite
a bit of money, and you know, you've got the
coach prime connection, all the endorsement deals you can get
with him.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
I mean I think he stays well, see, I mean
it's the other thing, is his prime stand. You know,
at the end of this, I think he is. I
don't think he's getting fired and they make too much money.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
No, I think it'll be up to him whether he
stays or goes. And I think he'll stay.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
I think, you know, I think Coach Prime is a
very prideful person and he completely believes in himself and
he doesn't want to leave somewhere without at least turning
and around first, right, And so.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
I think that's I think it's other because I mean,
I think Norvelle is going to get one more year
at Florida State.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
Yeah, and who knows he makes the money around there
and then that his job will be safe.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
Well, then that's the thing.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
So but if he if he doesn't, then I think
you have to start eyeball, Especially if Dion turns things
around here all next year, then I think you have
to start eyeball.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
And that Florida State.

Speaker 3 (24:49):
Thing, do you think some of the I don't know
what the right word for it, but I feel like
he's not as hot a commodity probably as he once
was even last year.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
Coach Prime, Well, I.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
Mean right now, because you're you're underwater, you've had a
bad season, and you know that kind of stuff. It's
it's wins make you hot, you know kind of thing.

Speaker 3 (25:07):
Like it's not like Florida State needs him to come
in and bring in money.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
They got plenty of money that that's not a thing.

Speaker 1 (25:14):
They just Florida State wants to get back to being irrelevant,
and they're just not relevant right now.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
As much as I like Mike Norvell, you know.

Speaker 1 (25:21):
They got guz Malzon down there, guys, I know, like
you know, I'd love to see them be a lot
more relevant with what they got, they're just not right now.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
And so that's going to be, you know, something something
keep out.

Speaker 1 (25:31):
There's gonna be an interesting coaching carousel this citle because
it's crazy, like the entire SEC West basically is looking
for new coaches.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Yeah, then you've got Penn State who's going to fill
that job? Right?

Speaker 1 (25:43):
You know, It's just it's it's it's interesting to me because,
like I said, you've got the U the SEC West
where you've got Arkansas looking for a new head coach,
Auburn looking for a new head coach, LSU looking for
a new head coach. You know, it's that that's gonna be.

(26:04):
And I wonder, you know, I'm wondering if that LSU job.
I wonder if Joe Brady's gonna take that job or
I we'll see.

Speaker 2 (26:09):
Do you think he will? I don't think he would
if he was offered. I don't know. And I don't
know if it's a big enough higher for LSU.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
Well, maybe they've realized that maybe it's not all about
the biggest name.

Speaker 1 (26:19):
Come getting the guy in there that's gonna get the
guys in there. Like like there was some I saw
some chatter for some people that are like, we need
to make a run to bring it editor heron back
after all his scandal stuff. He did win a national championship.
I mean, if you're Brian Kelly, how embarrassed are you
that editor or Charan got a national championship you couldn't
at LSU.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
Yeah, coach O baby, Alabama's on the you.

Speaker 1 (26:39):
Gotta feel like they're on the cusp of potentially. I
mean like even with the success that they've had this year,
they eat won this year, and you're still kind of like,
I don't.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
Know if this is the right guy. Well, I mean honestly,
like you could see.

Speaker 3 (26:52):
I mean, I wouldn't be shocked if they make the
College Football Playoff lose the first game. I wouldn't be
shocked to see them fire their head coach. Oh yeah,
I mean I thought coach Sharkishan that Texas had a
great quote. It was either last weekend or this weekend.
But like, who are gonna who's gonna fill these jobs?
Like everybody, every big program, Florida LSU, We're.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
Just playing musical chairs with the same coaches, right, Or
you're gonna have to go with some up and coming
guy that no one knows and your fan base is
gonna think, oh, what kind of higher is this? Yeah,
or or recycle somebody that's got scandal, you know, right,
And that's sort of you know, that's sort of the
thing is as this group drags on, as you look
at that, you sort of wonder how these programs are

(27:36):
going to do this, Like CSU, right, Well, you know
how far down in.

Speaker 2 (27:40):
The pecking order you are, right you you you either.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
Have to go and and like and that's assuming he
doesn't have other options, because he will go out and
get scandal plagued Urban Meyer. Oh god, no, it was
a who was a assistant coach at CSU for a
number of years.

Speaker 2 (27:55):
Who reportedly got turned down by Penn State. Uh. Yeah,
he went out there to sell him.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
So yeah, there's no chance that that school can't hire him.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
Of all the schools, that school can't hire him.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
By the way, speaking of Penn State, did you see
that Indiana players catch because oh yeah, we're talking about that.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
Yeah, when Nick and I was talking about that, Nick
and Ryan.

Speaker 1 (28:15):
When I got here, I was watching that dude's cad
and everybody's on Mendoza because you know, I've talked about
it before, like Mendoz and Simpson are the two best
quarterbacks in his class right now, right everybody's on Mendoza.
The throw is okay, that recept it was. The reception
was how in.

Speaker 3 (28:30):
The world because it looked like clearly his right foot
was coming down first, and the way that he just
willed it to not come down and then toe tap
his left foot right was incredible. Like that is probably
the best catch I've seen in college football all of
this year.

Speaker 1 (28:43):
Yeah, I don't know, Like I'd have to go back,
like I don't know, I haven't scouted the that receiver.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
I'd have to go back and look at it.

Speaker 1 (28:48):
But that's a guy you want your room, a guy
that's you know, that sharp and willing to do all
that in that moment.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
Five six six nine zeros text line.

Speaker 1 (28:55):
Brian says Signette's fifteen and two against powerful opponents without
being a blow hard.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
How is that possible?

Speaker 7 (28:59):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (28:59):
Only he's not a blowharder.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
I mean, he did tell people to google if Winter
where he goes, google me.

Speaker 2 (29:05):
I don't know that that's not being a blowhard. You know,
maybe he doesn't have a little weight on the sideline,
but he is.

Speaker 7 (29:11):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (29:11):
He definitely has his own arrogance there. As far as
this stuff goes, I don't know that you can you
sail that.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
By the way, Jackson Dart was in the concussion protocol.

Speaker 2 (29:23):
If Russell Wilson starts the.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
Giant, hey Russ got some playing time. I was hoping
he was going to lead him to a win.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
Was not good. Yeah, it was not good.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
But if he were to if he were to do that,
the bet would be back on.

Speaker 2 (29:35):
So what's I would guess the what's you got to be?
You're down two wins and I don't know how many
touchdowns I'd have to look.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
Not many, though, Yeah, because she went with passing yards,
you're probably still being the lead in that I'd be.

Speaker 1 (29:49):
At that point, I had to look into them. We
talked a little bit about Alex Singleton. He's got a
cancer still were removed. He's been diagnosed with particular cancer
and he had a chance to talk about his emotions
over the course last week.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
It's been a whirlwind.

Speaker 7 (30:00):
I would say, I don't necessarily even know if I
fully have coped with everything that's gone on.

Speaker 2 (30:07):
You know, I found out Monday afternoon.

Speaker 7 (30:12):
What it what it fully was, and then I was
gonna have surgery this Friday or this past friday, and
so yeah, it was nice.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
You know, between the doctors.

Speaker 7 (30:21):
And then the team and the medical staff, I was
able to kind of they took on all the pressure
and my wife, they kind of took on all the
pressure of planning, all the doctor's appointments.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
And surgery planning and all that.

Speaker 7 (30:37):
So I was able to which is what I wanted
to do, was just focus on football for the week,
for the Thursday game and just kind of, uh not
let it change my life yet, if that makes sense,
you know, because it was it's you know, still so shocking,
and so yeah, they they were all so good about that,
and that's so.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
Yeah, it's been a whirlwind.

Speaker 7 (30:58):
Uh, today obviously is and yeah, the surgery went really well.
So I'm just you know, obviously happy that you know,
I'm able to you know, do this with you guys today.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
Alex Singleton, whatever else you think of, there's been a
warrior for this football team. You know, obviously the injury
last year which sidelined for the season, but they played
the rest of the game on that what a dog
turn around and played. Had broke his thumb twice this year,
had missed, had missed any time he played through it,
broken thumb out there tackling people with a broken thumb.

Speaker 3 (31:29):
And alex or Ryan Michael talked about Alex Singleton earlier
and said, you know, he's got the two highest tackles
for a season ever in Broncos history.

Speaker 4 (31:38):
Right.

Speaker 1 (31:38):
There are some people that point to that being you've
allowed a catch a head to make the tackle, which
there is some of that. There's also like he's just
a great sideline of sideline downhill, goy. You don't want
him going away from the ball and coverage, but down
sideline of sidelining downhill.

Speaker 2 (31:50):
Yeah, he's a pretty good linebacker.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
And I think that's part of the thing with Drake
Green lobbying out there now and and justin Sternage.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
You can rotate those guys through and have a.

Speaker 1 (31:57):
Have a pretty good three man rotation there at the
at the inside backer spot. But uh, yeah, you know,
whatever you think of whatever about Alex Singleton, you definitely,
you know, you definitely don't want to dog a guy
for going through testicular cancer. It was interesting the NFL
You're analysis was what picked it up.

Speaker 3 (32:13):
I know, That's what I was just gonna say, like
a random drug test. How lucky for him that he
just got selected that week and they were able to
find it early on.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
Yeah, you know that elevates the levels that elevates or
can't elevate the levels that you have in your in
your system. And so that his agent, you know, went
and asked about, you know what in the body could
cause that from some doctors, they got him in for
an exam because the answer was fairly obvious and and
got it's enoughed out. So a big, big thing about
get out there and getting yourselves checked out, guys. That's

(32:44):
that's a big part of what we need to be doing,
reminding each other to go get ourselves checked out, Go
get those physicals, go get those exams, so we don't
come up with that kind of stuff.

Speaker 2 (32:53):
When we come back.

Speaker 1 (32:54):
Parker Gabriel is going to join us from the Denver
Post to get a chance talk to him about the
Raiders game and the Chiefs game coming up. Isn't the
Broncous country a night right here on Kae

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
