Speaker 1 (00:00):
Today with Ryan Edwards as Zach Seekers behind the Glass
and my guy Nick Ferguson in the studio with me.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Nick, how are you tonight? Man, I'm doing.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
Wonderful And it's always a pleasure in a treat to.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Sit in with you.
Speaker 4 (00:13):
Man. Sow was cool.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Yeah, it's always fun sitting in with you as well.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
I'm feeling refreshed after a day off. Yesterday, hit the slopes,
trimmed up the beard. It's Bolo TI Thursday, shot some
hoops this morning.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
I'm feeling good too.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Man, that's a lot. I mean, I still don't understand
how on the hell you hit the slope. See you're
able to get back and do all those things.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Well, you know, it's hell time management. You should know
that as a former professional athlete.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Well, yeah, I have kids now, so Tommy, that's the equation. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
So once that happened, the days on the slopes will
become much.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Less most definitely because those kids. Man, the demands. Uh,
I can throw a multivench in your program. Yeah right,
and it's it's this that's the other thing, and the
alphabet the kid has to go to the doctor's disappointment.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
Yeah, the day is just kind of wrecked.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
But I will tell you this though, whenever you get
to that point, enjoy every single moment of it. It
is by far the best job I've ever had, by far,
hands down.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
I can't wait.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
A lot of my friends have become fathers and mothers
and just the way they express how your complete mindset
changes of what's important in your life.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
I'm excited for that.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
Now. There's only one downside.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
The only downside is there's no four to one K
that comes along with it.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Hey, we've been saving money now for a couple of
years because we're like, damn, this stuff is expensive.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
It is, and I'll tell you real quickly we get
into the Bronco stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
But when it became a parent, it was like my
former teammates, my teams at the time, my parents, no
one told me kind of like how expensive was going
to be.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
Because I didn't know.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
And this is for both you seekers and anyone on
the text line. If you've been through the situation, please
let let us know. But I didn't know that you
needed so many freaking strollers. It was like, hold on,
now tell my why wait? How many strollers? First? First,
you have your regular stroller that you put your kid in,
and then you have a jogging stroller because obviously your
(02:23):
wife wants to get back in her you know, body.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Get back to baby.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
Wait exactly.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
And then it was a thin light travel stroller when
you're going through the airport.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Yep, you gotta have a special one for the airport.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
See, my wife is a nanny. So I feel like
a lot of these things took you. Yeah, it took
you by surprise. She'll already know those things. They'll take
me by surprise still, but she'll have all this down
and she nanny is a kid at home now and uh,
just having her there every day, the little girl, and
it makes me have even more baby fever, like I'm ready.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
So okay, Well, now here's the question. No.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Now, typically it's the wife that's having the baby fever, but.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
Now it's you.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
I got it.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
Does your wife know that you have this temperature? Yeah,
the fever.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
It has been heavily talked about so that we were
lucky enough to buy a house recently, and since that
it's been it's been discussed often.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
I'll say that, wow.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
She may want to suggest you get some far fluids
from robotouching for your fever.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Hey, we've been practicing a lot. YEA practice makes perfect.
Speaker 5 (03:25):
They say, well, perfect practice makes perfectly.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Well, then I got some more to do five six
six nine zero the comin Spirit Health text line. Feel
free to chime in on there. We've got a big
show tonight. Broncos color analyst Rick Lewis joined us at
six point thirty for his weekly What the Funk segment?
Coming down hard on that k We got Alex Gold
who covers the chiefs up in Kansas City, our favorite
chiefs reporter here on Broncos Country to night. He's going
(03:51):
to join us at the top of the seven o'clock hour,
and then bre mazed us. She's going to join us
in the eight o'clock hour. Talk a little Broncos Nuggets
and Buss, who had some breaking news today for the bus.
Rick George stepping down as ad going to be special
Advisor to the Chancellor, which I'm not sure what that means.
Before you ask, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
That's the title that if we lived our lives with
our significant others as titles, that would be my title
with my wife, you know, especial advisor.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
To special adviser to the wife and to the mother
of my.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Children, which means is though she's gonna make the decisions now,
she's going to ask you because she wants to be respectful,
but at the same time, we really don't need your input.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
She'll listen to your opinion, she may not take it
unless it agrees with her opinion.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Specially Advisor to the wife.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
Bro the seven to two to zero on the Common
Spirit Health text line at five, six, six, nine zero,
Grant will be a great dad. Well, thank you, I
hope so. And from the seven to one to nine
Grant said, I'm ready to make a baby. That's the truth.
Thank you for chiming in. Feel free to do so
all night. We got a lot of Broncos topics to hit.
First off, JK. Dobbins out looks like R. J. Harvey
(05:09):
is going to have a much bigger role this week
against the Chiefs. We heard Sean Payton talk about that
earlier today. We'll see how much they stick to the
run game. But also Marvin MEM's back. I think that's
a huge factor for this game on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Yeah, it is definitely a huge factor in my book,
because I look at it from a special team's standpoint
and usually when you talk about special teams, that's kind
of the Forguiden group, unless there's a block field goal
or someone misses a field goal, or there's a bad
shake of.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
A punt, which we saw a couple of us, which
we did.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
And as far as the weather it's concerned for Sunday,
I don't think wind is going to be a factor.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
I think that's underrated how windy it was against the
Raiders on Thursday night, Like that video of the ref
holding the ball in between his legs so it wouldn't
roll away before the center came up to snap it,
and then as soon as he moved his feet the
ball rolled away. I think that is a big issue.
But I don't see how that affects the drop of
(06:13):
the punt for Jeremy Crosshaw like that seems like it's
more of a mechanical issue on his part, not a
weather issue.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Well, yeah, I'm glad you said that, because that was
one of the big issues last Thursday where after the game,
because the Broncos didn't perform offensively, was that the wind had.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
A lot to do with it.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
And for me, both teams play in the elements and
take it took me back here in those comments to
something that Bill parcill would say, like, you play in
the elements, that's what you do. And during my time
with the New York Jets, I saw the bubble, right,
I saw this large oval site type area that you
(06:54):
could walk in and warm up for practice. But we
practice outside because his whole idea was that you play
in the elements.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
So you practice in.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
The elements, right, just like how we started the show,
perfect practice makes perfect, Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
So, yeah, you can't.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Underestimate, especially this time of the year, inclement weather. But
this is why it's important for the Broncos to find
their run game right, but find something that they do
well that they can lean on, somewhat of an identity
and running the ball this time of year will be
perfect for the Broncos to do that. And the fact
with JK. Dobbins being out now, the team can lead
(07:36):
on lean on Rjie Harvey. But also I'm thinking that
a lot of the carriers are going to go to
It's Hollaba Day.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Well, how's Julia McLoughlin going to play into the game
plan this week?
Speaker 2 (07:47):
You think he's going to get some touches.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
I would like to see him up that's the one
thing we don't know thus far whether he's going to
be up for the game. But even I mean, you're
playing against the Kancy the Chiefs, and you want to
make sure or from an America standpoint and not saying
that someone's going to go down, but you want to
be prepared. So I would like to think that the
Broncos will have him up for Sunday's game. How many touches,
(08:13):
because that's the thing we talk about. We're running the ball,
but his touches. How many touches will he actually received?
That I don't know, but they're gonna need all three
backs in my opinion if they're gonna win this game
against the Chiefs on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Yeah, and John Payton said yesterday, you know, we drafted
our J. Harvey for his running ability and the catches
out of the backfield have kind of been a bonus.
But that's really how they've used him most of this year.
So we'll get to see what his running ability is
really like. Hopefully he gets those fifteen to eighteen touches
that JK. Dobbins usually gets. We'll get to see the
day a little bit more and hopefully a couple runs
(08:47):
or screens or that passes out of the backfield for
Julia McLoughlin. I know he's got to be just chomping
at the bit after being you know, not really called
up all year. I think maybe one game earlier this
year he was up for. But I mean, he's got it.
He was an active part of the game plan last
year and now he's just sitting on the sidelines or
not even on the sidelines.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
For the games this year.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
You know what.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
Granted, I've been there in my career, and it is
tough when you fight so hard to get into the
league the way that he did, which.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
Was similar to mine.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
You get some playing time, you show people what you
can do, and then there's a new coach comes in,
then all of a sudden, they want their guys. Your
role is minimized, and you spend a lot of the
season watching, whether you are up or not. You're dressed
or you may not be dressed, but you're watching. You're
visualizing what a certain play would be like with the
(09:43):
ball in your hands. And I tend to see Jalil
today at practice. I just tapped him up and I
just told him I was happy to see him. He
shared the same sentiments you know for me. But I
just told him to keep his head up because in
these types of situations, when you know that you can play,
(10:06):
and he's already proven that he can play on this
particular level, but very few opportunities, sometimes you can be discouraged,
right when your numbers not call, when they start saying
okay on Friday, here's the guys that we're going into
the game with and your name.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Is in call.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
You look, you feel sick because.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
Your family, your buddies who saw you a year or
two before score tests down.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
They're asking me like, doll, oh, can't you even get
on a field?
Speaker 4 (10:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (10:36):
I mean, man, you bag.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
How do you handle that though? As a player?
Speaker 1 (10:40):
Like you know, when you're in those meetings and they're like, Okay,
you're obviously not part of the game planner and I'm
going to be on the active roster this week. You
think in your mind, and maybe it's true that you're
better than the person that they have on the active roster,
but you still want to be a good teammate. How
do you handle that situation in the locker round?
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Well, first and foremost, you better have that mentality that
you're better than the other guys, right, And to me
that there's no shame in saying that, because to me,
that showing you have confidence in yourself. Never think or
walk into a situation that someone's better than you, Like, no,
I'm going to force you to bring your a game.
(11:17):
We're teammates, you my dog, But if it comes down
to me or you, it's me, that's right.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
So that that is something he's got to deal with.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
And it's it's hard. It is, It is hard. Especially
here's what it's like. Think about it this way.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
Like if you came up and you.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
You ate ramen noodles, right, and all of a sudden
you get to a point where now you're eating file
at me young right, Oh, life is great. Then now
someone tell you hold on, player lemon, let you you
got to go back to those sweet lowpacketing.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Whoa, whoa?
Speaker 4 (11:56):
How do I get here?
Speaker 3 (11:57):
And it's a big slap in the face and it
can attack your confidence. But this is why you have
to continue to attack practice like it's a game, because
coaches watch and as much as the game is about
your physical abilities, it's about how you handle things mentally.
And a lot of the fans don't really take that
(12:18):
into consideration, because put yourself in a guy like Jaalil
McLoughlin's you know mindset. I mean, now, do you stay encouraged,
do you continue to practice? Do you continue to do
the same things you were doing that allowed you to
become a starter now that you're no longer a starter
or you're no longer getting those reps, And that's where
(12:40):
coaches look to see, Okay, well.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
How hungry are you?
Speaker 3 (12:43):
And for me, it was crazy because I attacked every
practice like it was game day. And Rod Smith, when
I came in from the Jets, had the same mentality.
So when I went to practice practice the same way
when I became a starter like I did when I
was a non starter. Now, I would have to say
(13:07):
a lot of my teammates didn't like that.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Some of those veterans did and appreciate you going one
and ten percent all the time.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
No, they did not appreciate that.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
But for me, I constantly heard Bill Parcell's voice in
my head. They're waiting for you to relax, and that's
when it come to get you.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
So I'm like, well, I'm not relaxing at all. And
I have to say this. I know we joke about.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
The fact that we turnover a table once, which but
with that mentality, there have been teammates who have been
injured in the process by accident, of course, because their
speed was a little different from mine. And what I
(13:56):
said to Julil today, man, is you have to remember
what got you here, that's going to keep you here,
and if it's not here, where the Denver Broncos is
with another team. So you can't forget that blue collar
work ethic, because sometimes people start off struggling and have
that blue collar work ethic and.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
Then you get a little taste of celebrity. You know.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
My dad used to call it, Oh, you're smelling yourself,
and then because of that they think, oh, I'm on
the top of the mountain now, and then your work
habits starts to taper off. And to me, that's when
the end starts for you as a player.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
Yeah, and then that fall from the top of the mountain,
fall from grace.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Well, speaking of the Jets, you mentioned earlier, coming over
from the Jets and but to the Broncos back in
your playing days. They're on Thursday Night Football today taking
on the Patriots, who are also eight and two in
the AFC. What do you think of this game? How's
it going to play out? Did the Jets even have
a chance this game? You think they can cover the
twelve and a half points. I mean it's a divisional game,
(15:05):
so you think you're thinking it's going to be a
little tougher.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
But I don't have much hope.
Speaker 4 (15:10):
Well, the division.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
Games are always tough, but as a former Jet, no,
full stop, no, I really don't have any I guess
confidence in them because Garret Wilson isn't playing.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
Yeah, he just got put on ir So that's four.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
Games and you're talking about an offense that was struggling
with him in the lineup.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
Sorry, Zach seekers tonight, it's not gonna be to night.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
But you look at what Mike Rabel has done in
this short period of time with the Patriots, and it
should be a testament or somewhat of example for a
lot of coaches because Rabel is still the hard nosed coach.
He is a football guy. I mean that's who he
(15:57):
is through and through. But here's what he has learned
in his time being a player and being head coach
for the Tennessee Titans and now having a stand with
the Patriots, is that you have to allow your players
to have somewhat of input and what's going on now.
(16:18):
Ultimately you make the decision, right, but allowing your players
to speak their mind and say, okay, well what's on
your mind? Guys, what would you like to do? What
was you like for us to change up? How do
we kind of incorporate things that you like to do.
So you want to listen to your players and if
(16:40):
they present something that makes sense, then you do it.
Just like yes, just I do this with my kids.
I said, don't bring me problems, bring me solutions. So
if you want to do something, first of all, your grades,
your chores, just pure family policy, respect needs to be Yeah,
(17:01):
but bring me something. But then said, how do I
have a little something added to it? I want to
do this and I'm willing to do this.
Speaker 4 (17:10):
And associating association with it.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
Not I can do this, but no, no, no, no, no no,
I can do this.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
And yes, in the.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
Same way it works in sports too as well.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
Tell me about the and don't give me the butt
because the butt seemed like a somewhat of a limitation,
right And once again, once you have kids, you experienced
but since you were married, just like I. You have
experiences too, Like with your wife, it's the and right,
we're gonna do this and opposed to we can do.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
This, but right, And she want to hear that.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
No wife wants to hear that real quick. Before we
hit the break, we got Rick Lewis on after we
come back. We had last weekend off because the Broncos
played on Thursday night, and I was sitting there watching
the Pats and the Bucks. And that's why that was
the first time I became a true believer in the Patriots.
Something I saw three different times the Patriots players got
hurt during the game and Mike Rabel went over and
(18:06):
held their hand and was with them on the field
while they were down writhing in pain. How much does
that mean to you as a player or does it
not really matter?
Speaker 4 (18:15):
It matters a lot.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
Okay, it means that you are more than just a
commodity to be traded.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
You're an anset.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
And I know when we see players get injured, coaches
always walk out there. Coach prim does a great job
of doing that himself. But for a coach to come
out there and show that he is genuinely concerned about you,
what it does is and I only speaks to you
in that moment, but your parents who are washing right
(18:45):
even though you're a grown man. Okay, that dude's got
my son's back. But also he says something to the
players too as well, as though you have a coach
who is going to be there, and I have to
tell you, I've been hurt before, but no coach every
held my hand.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
You had been willing to take that ahead and hold
right there out of the field. We got a big
show coming up, starting with Rick Lewis next when we
come back on Broncos Country and Night on KOAM ninety
four to one FM. Winning the games because we're not.
Speaker 6 (19:19):
You know, it's not aesthetically pleasing or it's not as
good as it we wanted to look. But at the
end of the day, you play to win, and you
know a win is the only thing that's going to
matter in weeks to come. You know, they don't care
about stats, they don't care about what it looked like
or if the offensive defense played well. They just care
if you want so, we just got to find reasons
(19:41):
to continue to win. And I do think that when
we start playing, you know, with all three phases of
the game. All three playing well. I think it's going
to be a lot more fun.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
That was bo Nix earlier this week talking about not
taking the wins for granted. Does the Broncos sit at
eight and two? Welcome back to a Broncos Country tonight.
I'm your host Grant Smith Felling and for Benjamin Albright
alongside my guy Nick Ferguson, Zac Seegers behind the Glass
and you heard the intro. It's time for the what
the Funk segment with Broncos color analyst Rick Lewis and
(20:12):
What the Funk?
Speaker 4 (20:13):
Rick?
Speaker 1 (20:13):
I heard some of your heads earlier this week and
it seemed like you're tired of these ugly wins.
Speaker 5 (20:19):
Yeah, what the funk? Funk Brother number one, funk Brother
number two? You know which one you are? Grant, right,
I'm number one? Actually you're number two. Sorry. Nick Ferguson
in the house, man, Nick Ferguson.
Speaker 4 (20:34):
From the hood in Miami. How could you be funk
Brother number one?
Speaker 2 (20:38):
Hey, I have a great knowledge of funk music.
Speaker 4 (20:41):
Yes he does. Well, I know because guess who his
mentor has been.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Oh Lewis there you go?
Speaker 5 (20:48):
Yes, Yeah, I got a couple of interesting stats here
for what the funk? These are two of the most
bizarre stats I think I've ever seen, uh getting ready
for football games.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
So here's the first one. Denver has the best record in.
Speaker 5 (21:04):
The NFL, tied with New England and Indianapolis.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
They also lead the league in punts. What the funk? Seriously,
how does that happen?
Speaker 2 (21:16):
That's a great question.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
Well, okay, here's okay, I think the answer that answer that.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
The answer is that they're mcgiver defense.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
If you if you're leading the league in punting, that
means that your offense they're not moving the ball, they're
not converting on third downs, and now you have to
punt to the opposing offense, and your defense is doing
a great job of standing tall, especially with know one
as though they're the best scene in.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
The league as far as red zone defense.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
So that's my visual and statistical answer to that question.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
See that's my funk brother number one right there.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
That's why I'm number two.
Speaker 5 (21:54):
Okay, all right, here's the second one. So the Broncos
have the longest active home win streak at ten and
they're three and a half point dogs to a team
that is five and four. Three and a half point
dogs at home against a five and four team. What
the funk?
Speaker 4 (22:14):
One?
Speaker 1 (22:14):
Other? What the funk on the Chiefs? They are the
betting favorite to win the Super Bowl and they currently
sit outside the playoff picture.
Speaker 5 (22:23):
Yeah, what the funk game? It's a weird weekend coming up.
This game really really interesting. I can't wait for this
game on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
This is a big game.
Speaker 5 (22:34):
So I'm saying the biggest game for the Broncos since
the Super Bowl and in Kansas City. They're saying this
could be the biggest regular season game in the Patrick
Mahomes era.
Speaker 4 (22:46):
Think about that, these guys are.
Speaker 5 (22:48):
Five and four. They cannot afford to go five and five.
If they lose on Sunday, they're pretty much out of
the race for the division. Could they make the playoffs still, Yes,
they still could. But this is a bigger game for
the Chiefs I think than it is for the Broncos.
So for me, there's more pressure on Kansas City than Denver,
(23:10):
and I think the Broncos are going to show up.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
Broncos seem to play down.
Speaker 5 (23:14):
To their opponent. This opponent's a big opponent, even though
they're only five and four. I think you'll get the
best version of the Broncos Sunday. It's going to be
really fun to watch, Rick, Don't you think.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
That, based on everything you just said, looking at the
scenes being five and four and the loss possibly putting
them outside the window to win this division NFC West again,
that there's a little desperation associated with the Kansaity Chiefs
that might make them a little dangerous, especially coming off
a bye.
Speaker 5 (23:49):
Yeah, and we know what Andy Reid if Andy reach
record off of bye is just ridiculous, it's the best
all time. It's like twenty two and three something like that.
And then this team, this Chiefs team is getting healthier
going into this game where the Broncos are going the
other way. Unfortunately, I think the Chiefs actually are catching
(24:10):
the Broncos about the right time. I talked to their
color analysts this morning and told him that, and he agreed.
You got a healthy Chiefs team. They're rested, they're ready
to go, They're desperate. You never want to play a
desperate Kansas City Chiefs team with Patrick Mahomes. But the Broncos, Man,
there's something about this Broncos team that is different and
(24:33):
I think special, and the Broncos I think will be
up to the task on Sunday. But yeah, mat it's
going to be interesting. You know, Vance Joseph in his
career as a DC for the Broncos against Mahomes has
done really well. Mahomes has struggled against Vance Joseph defenses,
and we know the defense is going to show up.
(24:53):
The big question mark, of course, is what version of
the offense will we see.
Speaker 4 (24:59):
Can they get off to a start.
Speaker 5 (25:01):
Are they going to have to come back in the
fourth quarter again like we've been seeing the last several weeks.
So that's gonna be the I think the most interesting
part of this game. Can the Broncos get off to
a fast start and maybe even get a lead on
the Chiefs? And if they can do that, that's when
this defense can really get after Mahomes, you know, pressure
(25:23):
him and get him on the ground.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
So that's, to me, is the key to the game.
You got to start fast.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
What a treat that would be.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Talking with Broncos color analyst Rick Lewis on Broncos Country
tonight and that offense for the Broncos missing.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
A key piece in JK.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Dobbins, who I would say arguably is the biggest offseason
addition for this team. But they're getting Marvin Mems back.
And we heard Sean Payton earlier today talk about, Oh,
he's very confident in r J.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
Harvey's running abilities.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
How do you think this Broncos offense attacks spags and
that Chiefs defense.
Speaker 5 (25:55):
Yeah, it'd be great if they could run the ball,
if they could win time of possession, that's what you want.
Gets the Chiefs obviously keep Mahomes off the field. With JK. Dobbins,
I'd be pretty confident that they could do that.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
R J.
Speaker 5 (26:08):
Harvey, we don't really know yet. We haven't seen a
whole lot of RJ. Harvey running the football, he said,
a different type of running back than JK. Dobbins. One
thing we do know about him, he's explosive. He's had
one run for forty yards, he's had another for fifty.
We know he can catch balls out of the backfield
very effectively. It's going to be fun and exciting to
(26:30):
watch him. He's a very exciting, very explosive player. I
like what what Cartland Sutton said about him. He said
they call him the app ath Grant app At because yeah,
he's such a great athlete, and he is. He does
everything really well, I have a new nickname for him.
(26:51):
By the way, everybody's calling him Quadzilla. I'm gonna call
him Quadraphenia.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
You get it.
Speaker 5 (26:58):
No, explain it to me Quadraphedia. Come on, right, Well,
maybe that was before your time. The big one of
the biggest WHO albums of all time was called Quadraphedia.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
Look it up. We will look it up.
Speaker 5 (27:13):
Are maybe are a little bit older rock listeners right now,
we'll know exactly what I'm talking about, all.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
Right, Rag, So, very important game for both teams for
different reasons.
Speaker 4 (27:26):
But why do you think this game?
Speaker 3 (27:28):
I had my own my idea why this game is
big for the Denver Broncos, and it doesn't have anything
to do with the A two record.
Speaker 4 (27:36):
But what would you say is the.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
Reason why this game would be big for the Denver
Broncos yourself?
Speaker 5 (27:43):
Well, obviously, if they win, their chances of winning the
division go way up. Of course, another win will also
get you closer to the playoffs. I think they are
already a playoff team in my opinion. But the more
wins you can get you get the highest seed, you
get a home game playoff, maybe even a bye in
(28:06):
the first round.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
Of the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (28:08):
So this is big and going into a bye week
where we're going to get a chance to finally heal
up a bit and get some guys back for that
game against Washington in a couple of weeks. I think
they can go in there, Nick and just really lay
it all out. I do feel like this team is
a little bit worn out. I think they're a little
(28:28):
bit tired, and we know they're beat up. But with
a bye week ahead, this is when you can just
put it all out there on the field and we're
going to see the same effort from the Chiefs. And
that's why I think it's a big game, and it's
a big game to show the rest of the NFL
that this offense can be effective. We've seen flashes of
(28:50):
it at times. Bow Nicks has looked great, but he
seems to be in a funk right now. I think
they need to get Boon Nicks on track. That's another
big part of the game. Son Day best.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
Song on the Quadrophenia who album?
Speaker 4 (29:08):
Are you going to be giving me a list?
Speaker 2 (29:10):
No, I'm just asking songs.
Speaker 5 (29:11):
Oh well you did won't get it out there?
Speaker 3 (29:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (29:17):
I did?
Speaker 5 (29:17):
Okay, how about won't get fooled again, Zach can probably
look that up.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
Won't get fooled again. Okay, I'll take your word for it.
I'm more of a pinball wizard. The Who song, you know,
but that was even before that.
Speaker 4 (29:30):
Was the Tommy album. I think it came after Tommy.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
It did.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
It was seventy three and Tommy was sixty nine, so
I should have known.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
I'm sorry I was too.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
Well.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
Rick, We always appreciate chatting with you man. Looking forward
to your call on Sunday, hopefully for another big Broncos win.
Speaker 5 (29:49):
Always good to be on with you guys. Funk Brother
number one, Funk Brother number two. We'll see you Sunday.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
Rick Lewis, Broncos Color Analyst. We'll react to that when
we come back. His new nickname for R. J.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
Harvey.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
How do you feel about the nickname quadro fa quadrophen.
Speaker 3 (30:12):
Isn't it a water called aquaphenia?
Speaker 4 (30:16):
Isn't it?
Speaker 1 (30:17):
These are my mind?
Speaker 2 (30:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (30:20):
Okay here, it's just tap water though, So I'm.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
Trying to quadrophen and make it make sense.
Speaker 4 (30:29):
Does it mean that because RJ.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
Harvey's thighs are so large and muscular, does that mean
that Rick is suggesting that he's gonna walk on water
versus Kansas City on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
Walk on water right into the right into the end zone. Quadrophenia.
It is an amalgamation of two words quadraphonic and schizophrenia.
Quadraphonic sound was one of the first attempts that surround.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
Sound for speakers quadrup.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
So that's your uh, that's your dictionary lesson for tonight.
Welcome back to it, Broncos Country tonight.
Speaker 3 (31:08):
I was gonna ask you, uh, what's the origin.
Speaker 4 (31:10):
Of the word like, multifaceted?
Speaker 1 (31:14):
Like R. J. Harvey is as a runner, a receiver,
and returner. There you go a way to make it
make sense. Sex is back there behind your class Comma
Sperl tex line five six six nine zero from the
seven to two to oh.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
Every every week we say.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
We get off to it or to get off to
a fast start, has not happened at all. How do
they do it? Run? Run, run, You think that's how
they get off to a fast start. I always say
throw the ball to Courtland Sutton on the first drive instead.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
Wow, that is very tempting.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
I am going to agree with the texture run well.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
Yes, run, because once you get a team running and
a team like they're gonna face on Sunday, who's very aggressive.
Speaker 4 (31:57):
Now you're part of throwing a Courtland makes it even
more smoother.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
Okay, I can get down with that.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
We're gonna run, run, Run to a break when we
come back. And a preview The Chiefs with Alex Gold
right here on Broncos Country to Night on Kaaight fifty
am ninety four to one FM
