(00:00):
Hello and welcome. It's Milwaukee AdmiralsCenter ice with Michael Jahause, Gamer and
Sims boil Boy. There's lots tobe happy about. There's lots to talk
about. This has been a funrun. The Milwaukee Admirals have won ten
straight after winning this weekend at homeover Rockford and then winning at Chicago five
nothing on Saturday night. It hasbeen. It has been a blast.
This is this is normally the dogdays. I don't know how you feel,

(00:23):
will you, but I mean you'vebeen with the team for forty years
you certainly feel it in some fashion. It doesn't feel like the dog days
this year, you know what it'sso it's really just fun to appreciate it.
Just sitting right neck and just enjoythe moment. You know, it
really is. It's a it's kindof uh, you know, these don't

(00:43):
come along very often. No,and it's it's just really fun. It's
been. It's been great hockey. It's been fun to watch. What a
what a wonderful What a wonderful runit's been, no doubt. He talk
about that and much more. IsAdmiral's assistant coach Greg Roalo. Greg,
how are you feeling about it.You've been through stretches like this, you've
played in the Calder Cup final. What has this been I mean, it's
regular season and it's January and allof that stuff, But what has this

(01:06):
been like for you? It's beena lot of fun, youthful, energetic
group that's a lot of fun tobe around all the time at the rink,
and I don't know, we're justkind of enjoying this ride because you
know, in pro sports, soyou have the ups and downs, so
you better enjoy the goods as they'recoming. And right now, it's been
a great run for our guys, really with them. How much you say

(01:27):
that, But you're a coach,so how much can you really enjoy all
of this or are you kind ofmaybe it's new school old school. I
don't know, but you know, coaches have to have that stern exterior and
you know, we're worried about thenext game and all of that stuff.
But at the same time, man, you'd go nuts if you couldn't enjoy
a little bit, right, Yeah. I think a little bit of that

(01:49):
goes into just the fact that Iused to be a player. I can
understand what these guys are going throughand how difficult it is to accomplish the
thing that they're doing right now,and you ought to celebrate the positives around
them, and I understand your pointof just kind of trying to keep them
in check and all that. AndI think that's where our head coach,
Carl does an excellent job of managingthe highs and the lows of you know,

(02:13):
things are going really well right now, but he finds a way to
beIN been things where we still cantighten things up or teach here and there
in a positive manner. So that'sthat's been He's been doing a fantastic job
managing our team right now because obviouslyfor good reason, they're they're feeling pretty
good about themselves. Yeah, they'refeeling pretty good about themselves, you know,
and it really Greg, it's justbeen unbelievable. But it just doesn't

(02:37):
start at tenth straight. I mean, I mean it's like, what is
it, fourteen and one in thelast fifteen and eighteen and three in the
last twenty one. I going tosay, since you played San Diego,
you're seventeen and two since December thesixth. Yeah, that's that's incredible.
I Mean, we and we weretrying to remember the last meeting against San
Diego and Aaron was describing it tome, and I was like, oh,

(02:57):
it was that one. Well, what you know, we're four and
one against the specific with our onlylost being against San Diego. What are
your what's your recollection of the firstmeeting between these two teams? Yeah,
I think the last time we playedthem very similar to kind of you know,
we knew what we needed to do, but just it was like the
last game where things just didn't reallygo our way. We came out below.

(03:20):
They're a heavy four checking team. They skate really fast, and they
put us under the gun and gota couple of goals against us, and
I believe they had a couple ofpowerplay goals as well, if I remember
correctly. So it was just oneof those nights where you know, we
kind of they kind of gave itto us, and they deserve to win
that game. But I would saywe're a little bit different team now,
a different mindset, and we've asof recently, we've played some teams that

(03:44):
are aggressive on the four checks. So there won't be any surprises tomorrow.
I'm and surprised is a word thatI hesitate to use because I'm enjoying.
And again i could say I'm surprisedthe way you're handling it, but I'm
so I'm enjoying the way the teamis handling the target on the back because

(04:04):
you have breezed by Texas and thestandings. I mean, you go seventeen
and two, You're gonna make upa lot of ground and and gain a
lot of ground. But I'm theway the team is playing and the way
the team is playing. Sixty fullminutes going to the end seven to nothing
game in Vegas, you could haveyou could have shut it down a little
bit early for nothing. Here inChicago on Saturday night, you could have

(04:27):
taken the third period off. Butthe way this team is playing for each
other and playing for themselves and andplaying until the final horn, that's exciting.
Very And I'll give you guys alittle insight. And just like you
just said against Chicago the other night, we were update going into the third
period and Carl challenged our guys todo exactly what you just said, not

(04:48):
take the foot off the gas, reminding them this is a team that we
played several times throughout the season, and we really wanted to continue to play
the right way and push the paceand backcheck and play for our goal tenders.
Who's been fantastic, both of them. Uh, And our guys responded,
it was fantastic. We watched ourvideo this morning, had our meetings

(05:08):
and nothing but positive clips in thatthird period of guys backchecking, tracking back
through the neutral zone. Things thattend to tend to go away as you
have a big lead in the thirdperiod, but our guys continue to do
it, and it's been fantastic towatch, you know. And what was
really Jake Livingstone scores his first goalas a pro, and I think we
kind of sensed that it was comingthe way the way he'd been playing recently.

(05:30):
But he comes out, he getsa couple of big block shots,
but to break up a three onone there at the end, and again
you could have just put the stickdown and see what happens and make the
goal. They make the stop, but he comes in and breaks up a
three on one cleanly. I mean, my goodness, what an effort.
No, it's and it speaks throughoutthe lineup, like you're seeing guys block

(05:51):
shots in the third period and dothings for each other. So that's that's
powerful when you have a team thatyou know playing for each other. The
guys were playing for Goose the othernight. They wanted to help him.
Obviously, he made his saves thathe needed to make, but we didn't
want to give him give up anythingto make his job more difficult. So
guys playing for each other, guyscaring about each other is pretty strengthening it

(06:14):
within your room. That's awesome.Yeah, we talk about keeping the winning
streaking is the role the team hasbeen ongn in proper perspective. Have there
been enough coachable moments to keep theteam grounded? I mean, has there
been enough times where you could say, hey, guys, you know we
got away with one last night, but I wish we did we do this,
or wish we would do that. How's that working? Yeah, it's

(06:35):
been. We actually tonight or thismorning, we showed probably about fifteen or
twenty or soap clips from last game. Half of them were positive, but
the other half where we'll call himteaching clips, where areas that you know,
there's still breakdowns in every game, whether you win ten or nothing,
you can still find breakdowns. Soour job right now is to kind of
just manage that We talked a littlebit earlier about still teaching and trying to

(07:00):
grow our game. There's always anotherlevel that you can take, and we're
trying to push our guys to thatnext level. We don't want them to
get complacent, and really the bigthing for us is getting them to understand
the reason why they're having success, the reason why we've been on this run.
It hasn't been easy. They're workinghard, and they're playing the correct
way, and they're following the team'sstructure, and their individual talents are coming

(07:23):
out. So it's been hard workand all those things they just mentioned is
why we're having success and just gettingthem to understand that and continue to buy
into that. Admiral's assistant coach GregRaalo joins us, this is Milwaukee Admirals
center ice. The line of Jankowski, Afanasiev and LaRue. It's getting a
lot of points, obviously, butit's also facing off against the other team's

(07:46):
top line, so it's not onlyscoring, but it's the shutdown line.
All three of them are key penaltykillers. All three of them get some
time on the pop, Like youcould have those guys out for forty minutes
a night. It seems, andsometimes it does seem that way, but
they continue to do the job hereand they've kind of done it basically since
the first ten games of the seasonspecifically. Yeah, it's nice to have

(08:11):
that on your team because I mean, generally speaking, when you look at
a hockey team, your top skilledline isn't your best defensive line. And
to have that combo where they're producingthrough the roof offensively and then at the
same time be very trustworthy in theirown end, that's a pretty deadly combo
that we have right now. Andall three of them individually bring their own
talents to the game and they kindof just mesh really well together. You

(08:33):
have Igor who can really shoot andcan make plays, and jen Kowski is
really calm and cool and makes thingshappen under pressure. And then you have
Zach who who just kind of allover the ice and then mixes in his
own skill so together that they're apretty good line, and we're pretty happy
with what they're doing. Yeah,no doubt. We talk about dog bit
days, but we have the AllStar break coming up, and again another

(08:54):
challenge for the coaching staff to keepeverybody focused heading into the All Star break
with people's gattering and trying to getsome time off and well deserved time off.
How difficult is it to keep youguys, to keep your guys focused
coming into the All Star break.Honestly, I would say, like with
with this group, I don't wantto, you know, get ahead of
myself. They keep surprising us,and I don't think we really need to.

(09:16):
I'll say it. I don't thinkwe need to worry about it with
this group. We'll see what happens. But they're they're they're a very focused
group, and our leadership group doesa great job of helping our young guys
and teaching our young guys, andit's been great. Like there's not much
else to say. There's always obviousthings guys are looking forward to. They're
All Star breaking, and we encouragethat. It's it's great to have this

(09:37):
break coming up and get away andstep away. But at the same time,
there's still a job to be donewith our two games, and we're
confident that our leaders will have ourguys ready to go. And you know,
if you're one eight and one inyour last ten, it's a different
animal maybe for sure. And ourguy obviously they're riding a high and then
they understand what's at stake and theywant to keep it going. There's a

(10:01):
lot of positive energy in a room. Practice to day was fantastic. It
was short, but guys were flying. It was really good energy. It's
you say, dog days, likewe're not seeing it right now. Guys
are laughing and having a great time. So it's really been a lot of
fun to be around. Yeah,it's it's really worked out. I mean,
the schedule, you don't you can'treally control the schedule a heck of
a lot. Obviously Woode as thebest control maybe yeah, yeah, and

(10:26):
I gets thrown under the bush, yeah constantly. Yeah, yeah, you
talk about a thankless job, butexactly, But I mean the way it
shakes out here, and certainly theten wins in a row helps, But
you get a trip to Vegas outof it, you get a lot of
games at home. The week wedo get snow and cold, we were
in Las Vegas, so it's it'slike yeah, right, like, but

(10:46):
I mean, just so many thingsthat contribute to the malaise of this part
of the season. Uh, wewe got to avoid and I mean luck
or or whatever it is. Ithas just worked out. Yeah, and
then We're fortunate in that aspect forsure. I think I didn't realize really

(11:07):
until now, how heavy front loadedwe were on the road at the start
of the season, and maybe thatwas a blessing. And they talk about
being on the road a lot,and early guys forced to go to dinner
with each other, forced to hangout with each other, kind of geled
our group to a point now wherewe're at home and guys are doing those
things at home because their buddies. Now they've created friendships and trust with each

(11:28):
other. So maybe there is ablessing that's kind of undisguised the way our
schedule has played out this year.Right, how do your kids feel?
We've had seven Frosty fours in thelast nine years. I mean, the
kids have got to be fired up. They know that that promotion is one
effect in our house. My kidsknow about it very well and they how

(11:52):
many goals did we scored last night? Dad? Doing to They say more
than four? Can we go getFrosty? Since since December's six an average
of four point four to two goalsper game. That, yeah, they're
happening all the time now. Imean we're third in the league and we're
third in the league in scoring, and we're second in the league and nine
goals against. That's a nice combinationthere. There might be a backup of

(12:13):
Frost season. My freezer boy hada boy in case we go on a
scoring drought. You're taken care of. Well, I know, hopefully that's
hopefully that doesn't happen, right.Admiral's assistant coach Greg Raalo joins us on
Milwaukee Admirals Center ice. So asyou get going here, and I asked
Carl this, and and you you'rein the same boat. Is there more

(12:37):
monitoring situations? I mean, theway things have gone and the way guys
have have sacrificed and played for oneanother out there is there more monitor monitoring
on the bench rather than barking outorders or giving direction or anything like that,
letting these guys kind of take thechallenge on themselves. Here. Is
this the time where you kind oflet the rains go a little bit?

(12:58):
A little bit? I mean,and I feel, I don't know,
maybe it goes back to just myplaying experience. There is times and places
in a game to coach and ormore dialogue. I think that's where kind
of the game where you get yourgrowth out of your player. Is just
creating more dialogue with them, askingthem, hey, what did you see
there, and kind of listening becausethe game is fast and it's you can

(13:18):
appreciate that when you've been out thereand you can see how fast the game
happens. So you're not always goingto make the right decisions. So kind
of more creating a dialogue with themand getting their feedback and then I can
put my two cents in and well, maybe next time we try this,
or maybe next time, you know, you take this different angle or route
to a guy. But just likeI said, more of a conversation,

(13:39):
I guess, teaching wise versus barkingat them or saying you have to do
it this way. Our guys havebeen very responsible and very receptive to coaching,
so there's no issues there this. One of the amazing things about this
team is the fact that it isplayed nearly half the games, eighteen out
of thirty eight with seven defensemen andeleven forwards in a contest. And there
have been issues. There have beeninjuries, there have been ejections where you've

(14:01):
had to drop down to ten forwardsin a game, but the team is
sixteen to one and one in thosegames, and I just can you put
your finger on as to why therecord is as it is with that lineup.
I think just the way they manageit. Right now, we have
seventy that i'll come play at thislevel and they're very effective. So that

(14:22):
allows Borto to get our more offensiveguys out there and more offensive situations,
and then our defensive guys play inmore defensive situations and allows him to manage
that. And then on the offensiveside, the things that allows Carl to
get our kind of rotate through whereour top players are getting more minutes and
spotting them in on you know,a third or fourth line where Igor sometimes

(14:46):
he's he's going once every you know, every other shift he's on the ice.
That's good things are going to happen. So they found kind of their
their sweet spot I think right nowwith managing both ends of it, whether
it's defensive or offensive side, andI think likes it and it's been working
for our guys. So we'll seehow it plays out moving forward, but
right now it's been really effective forus. There has been a lot of

(15:07):
attention on Igor, and rightly sowith the numbers he's putting up and the
anticipation that they have in Nashville forhim to come up. And I don't
know what player he is at theNational Hockey League level, but you've been
around him as a coach since hestarted as a pro. Your thoughts on
his maturation. I think he's justhe's pushing the envelope now to the point

(15:31):
where he's it used to be like, hey, I want to be in
the NHL, but now it's like, hey, I'm ready to be in
the NHL, like there's no more, Like you know, there's no more
in grounds. He is pushing themto make that decision, which as a
player, that's all you can do. And he's been able to stay incredibly
focused over this run because the chancehasn't come yet, and you never know
when your chance is going to come. And he hasn't gotten frustrated with it.

(15:54):
He stayed the course. And thenyou see in his overall gameplay just
the amount of pace he's playing withnow, in the amount he's shooting from
the good areas on the ice, getting inside more, and he's playmaking and
all those things that we've been onhim for a couple of years. Now,
he's really taken it to the nextlevel, and it shows in his
points, in his production and hisdefensive play is extremely responsible defensively, and

(16:18):
that's something he knew he had todo in order to get called up.
You can't go there and just expectto have offense. You have to have
that other side of your game aswell. They can trust you to put
you on the ice in all situations. This is going to be the last
one here for you. Greg.I'm curious that Cody Hodgson is here.
An interesting story and I'm not goingto get into all of it. His
career in life story, people cangoogle that. But when you have Hodgson,

(16:41):
a Jankowski, and I think historybears out when you guys have had
tenority in Blackwell and players like that. But your talent is talent, right,
I mean, it's one thing tohave a nineteen year old in Kemmel
or a twenty year old in Svetchkoff. Hodgson is thirty three, Jankowski is
twenty nine, Gravella is thirty one. But those guys are still developing,

(17:02):
and you still want the same thingfor all of them, right, Like
they're all You got to work witheveryone to try to get them to the
NHL. That's the end all beall for everybody, right, Yes,
they all have their own individual goals, whether it be Cody who's trying to
get back into professional hockey and he'sbeen fantastic. He's been working really hard.
You've got Gravell who's our captain, who's pushing the NHL, but he's

(17:25):
also developing into a leadership role andhelping younger players. There's all different levels.
There's some guys that just want tobe, you know, playing the
American League for ten years and howare they're going to get their next contract?
So that's kind of our jobs ascoaches is to help these guys obtain
their individual goals. Very good,Greg, looking forward tomorrow night against San
Diego with Panther Arena should be alot of fun. We appreciate your time

(17:47):
as always, have a good day, Welcome, guys, have a good
coach Admiral's assistant coach Greg Raalo. The Admirals have won ten straight in that
span, outscoring opponents forty two tofourteen, five shutouts. In that stretch,
penalty killed eighty nine point seven percentfive short handed goals. Now the
power play is only three for twentythree. But here's the key number to
me is the twenty three only twopoint three power plays per contest, only

(18:11):
one per game in the last threeYes, so this is a team that
is scoring a ton of goals butis not getting any very little on the
power play, which is incredible. They actually have five short handed goals in
the last ten games and three powerplay goals and some really really it's some
highlight, real shorthanded well that wonby Zach LaRue on Friday night. Yep,

(18:32):
and Carl pointed this out, andit's it's well well taken where he
breaks up the play at at thepoint. Ethan del Mastro is a highly
thought of prospect for Rockford. Hegot pinned along the wall. Carl said,
seven hundred players roughly in this league, six hundred and seventy five of
them would have continued to take abad route. Zach is one of the

(18:52):
handful that stopped and did the rightthing. He gets a breakaway in the
short handed goal, and I justthings like that. It's pretty pretty amazing
to see when you come watch ahockey game. And I mean, right
now, these guys feel great whenyou walk in. I don't know what
do you. You can't really havemuch trepidation at the moment because of the

(19:15):
way this is, like you said, eighteen and three in the last twenty
one you got to be you know, since the beginning of December, this
has been the best team in hockey. It seems pretty high in the high
high hockey IQ. I mean, yes, these guys really get it.
Yes, you know, you know, and we sat here and this is
without Dennis Garionov, who was recalledright like this, and we're sitting here

(19:37):
in October and we weren't scoring goals, and oh yeah, the kids are
gone, they're going to mature, and you know, and then it's like,
geez, they all. I mean, it happened a lot quicker than
we thought. Well, you know, and there's gonna be I mean,
we were riding high right now.Yes, there's likely to be some major
obstacles going forward, but at theend of the day, I mean,

(19:57):
they've they've really he progressed nicely. The Admirals had a three and three the
weekend of November seventeen, eighteen nineteen, and they lost here at home on
November eighteenth. After that loss, they were six and six. They went
to Chicago the following day and gotit out a two to one win at
Chicago, But after that lost Saturdaynight. The team was six and six
on November the eighteen. Since then, twenty one four and one, which

(20:21):
is just amazing. It is sureis we're gonna We're gonna take a break.
One of those guys who has reallystepped up, Jake Livingstone, defenseman.
He's going to join us when wecome back. You're listening to Milwaukee
Admirals Center Ice. Welcome back toMilwaukee Admiral Center ice with Mike wil Jahowski.
I'm Aaron sim just enjoyed talking withAdmiral's assistant coach Greg Rallo. And
now a guy who Saturday night scoredhis first professional goal. It was a

(20:44):
beauty and it was again well Isensed it was coming for a while and
he couldn't have put it in abetter spot. It's fantastic and I just
love his game. Yeah, he'splayed so well all year and it's just
been fun to want. Yeah,he's Admirals defenseman, Jake Livingstone. Jake,
thanks so much for the time. How are you today? Good?
How about you guys? We're greatand I'm curious when you get When you

(21:07):
get that puck, where does itgo? Well, it just saws that
you kind of coming across the usuallywhen you're in the slot, just trying
to shoot it that and it worked. Yeah, that's usually what happened.

(21:29):
Shoot the pucket, it goes.Yeah, it's a pretty simple game,
right Seriously, if you can lookat it that way, it always did.
That's that's scary about it. Right. Well, you you've had You've
made some plays and uh, Iwas were you feeling any pressure to get
number one or is it just partof you know, you know, no
big deal when it happens, ithappens kind of no big deal. I

(21:53):
mean my role this year on theteam, uh, on my a role
that had a team's previously, Likeyou know, I'm not on power play,
I'm not. I'm not really dependenton offense, believe as much as
it had them in the past.So it's kind of like I just got
to do my job. Uh,Like I like grocer and stuff like that

(22:14):
and Delia I'm on to kill.I just got to keep the keep the
punk out of my map. Butit definitely felt could get that. Uh,
I've always been the ones that reallylike offense, so right. Well,
I tell you what. You peoplelook at your college numbers and they
see a guy who scored a pointa game at for a very good school,

(22:37):
one of the one of the bestschools in college hockey. But we've
talked about this before. You're alsoa guy that and it's not on the
front of the stat sheet, butyou're also a guy that blocks two and
a half three shots a game.So you're really not doing anything new.
But I think people who may nothave known your game, they look at
the points rather than the block shotsand the hits and all of that stuff.

(22:57):
Right, Yeah, I mean Ialways think I always pride myself on,
especially in college, was trying tobe a two way guy that was
kind of defended or dependent upon onevery situation. But like I said,
my role here has kind of changedso far. I'm like just getting adjusted
to the you know, your firstpro year, it's always a little different,

(23:18):
just trying to find your role.Like I'm just trying to do my
best to kind of help the teamkeep doing what we're doing, you know,
so little things like that. That'spart of pro hockey is finding out
roles and stuff like that. Butyeah, I believe that I've always been
really good at penalty kill. Ithink that's where I get both my blog
shots. That's kind of probably oneof the better part of my game.

(23:40):
But it kind of goes I knowthis one to most people obviously because of
the plaints. Right, you guyshave won ten in a row, and
as a player, how difficult isto keep that in perspective and continue to
come to the rink every day anddo what you gotta do. And you
guys, you know, haven't beenperfect, but you sure but you got
you have been as far as winsand losses. Yeah, I mean,
I think it's with us. It'sjust kind of been doing everything we can

(24:03):
at the beginning of the areo whenwe weren't scoring as many goals and we
weren't having the success that we probablythought we deserve. But yeah, it's
just a change once. You justkind of got to keep it going and
just understand that. I'm a bigpart of the part of the game is
it's just kind of going doing yourday to days. You know, Jake

(24:23):
Livingstone joining us. This is MilwaukeeAdmiral Center. Rice the play you made,
you had a couple, you hadyour goal obviously against Chicago, a
couple of big block shots, butthe play you made to break up the
three on one in the third period. It's a five to nothing game,
or it was a second period,I guess four nothing game. It could
have been no big deal, butyeah, it was the third period.

(24:45):
Pardon me trying to get ready, trying to figure out which one side the
benches were on. You could have, you know, just put the stick
down on the ice and if theymake the play, they make the play.
But Mike, I love I toldthis to Greg, I've said this
to Carl Taylor. Uh. Theway you guys are playing for one another,
not only yourselves but for one anotherhas been really cool to see.

(25:06):
And I got to imagine, Imean, give me an idea what it's
like in there when when things likethat happen, and when guys, you
know, block shots and everybody standsup and the sticks are pounding on the
boards and things like that, likeit just seems like it's just a it's
a fun time. Yeah, Imean, it's the way fucking shops doing
all the hard things early the yearwhen you're winning hockeys, right, Like,

(25:27):
sometimes it doesn't go your way,but at least you can like flip
back and you know, if youdidn't have the best game before, still
you know there's always at least probablyfifteen guys in the ten games street.
But like I didn't have a butyou can still look back and I'll still
be like, all right, andI've been my best game, but we
still got the job done. Likeit was good, good as a team

(25:48):
and stuff like that. So ifyou look at it that way, guys
really excited for each other all thesuccesses of others, like fucking shots are
a big thing, as the puntdoesn't get to that and nothing going the
you mentioned before the team struggle toscore goals at the beginning of the season.
Now, uh, well you getyou had five short handed goals,
but you're doing so much five onfive even strength. And I'm wondering because

(26:12):
Carl said something interesting to me acouple of days ago. Uh, head
coach Carl Taylor, We're not adefensive team, but we played defensively,
and to me, that signifies thatyou're making the play, the simple play,
the play that you need to make. It might be hard, but
you're getting the puck out of thezone and getting up ice as quickly as

(26:33):
possible and and putting the puck inthe net. Right, Yeah, I
mean, like most people plays kindof cliche at the best, right,
good job of doing that. Butalso we've been shutting down some good lines.
I'm going to cut into uh,like James Blanty that the whole line
at the top that pretty much everynight and there's still finally to contribute.

(26:56):
They have liked or some point sixgames or something like that. Ye like
the line. Yep, that's crazylike that. We're halfway through the season.
This is about and I think youhave played at the moment as many
games as you did a little acouple less actually as you did last season

(27:17):
in college. Uh, and thenyou threw on the five games at the
end with Nashville. I'm curious howyou're feeling and what it's been like.
We were talking there was a groupof us and I ended up sitting at
your table in Las Vegas at adinner and we were talking about the lifestyle
and getting away from college and thingslike that. How has this been for
you? It's been really good.Actually I enjoyed more. Every hockey player

(27:41):
nobody really likes practices, but thoseare That was the worst part about college
that you're playing two games the weekendand our practice at the hardest thing about
the whole right, the whole week. So like that part of it,
you know, and was it wasit the same? Was it the same
as like, Okay, it's it'sMonday. Let's say you're on the ice

(28:03):
at three o'clock from three to threeoh five. We're just gonna do a
couple of laps three o five tothree ten? Is this drill three ten
to three eleven, We'll get adrink of water three twelve to what it?
Was it like that all the time? Ah? Yeah, I mean
yes and no. Yes, eachday with the time, but the majority

(28:25):
of the day you knew as you'regetting you something too, like when it
came to that, like your scheduleis so like Bay, your schedule is
not on you basically like yeah,it's cool, like drive the day at
least here you have the morning it'slike whatever, and then after that you
have the recid mom. But atschool, like you got the time at
the time, we got team dinnerat this time. Like so that part

(28:49):
of it is just like different,Like I have most read them. Yeah,
you know, Aaron touched about yougoing down to block shots and with
a five nothing leading the third period, and it seems like it's something that's
just been prevalent that with five shoutoutsover the last during this run. I
mean, as a defense score, you guys have got to be, uh,
be really proud of the way youguys have supported your goalies. And

(29:10):
they also the guy the forward's comingback then you know that's all part of
it. But is that like abadge of honor when you guys you know,
were able to get a get ashout out, A yeah, a
team shut out? Is that abadge of honor? For you guys,
it is big, But for likeus, he's just such a good player,
like uh, I mean he didmy butt on the uh the breakway

(29:33):
there when I had to, Ihad to turn over the blue line to
a thing. I'm kind of oldof them. You know you like that
you did that for me. I'mnow, well, I tell you what
as a team, uh, fourteengoals allowed in the last ten games.
So it seems like, again gettingback to what I mentioned before, you
guys are playing for each other reallywell, and I mean that's the mark

(29:56):
of a good team, special team. So that we were able to kind
of figure it out. We kindof just got to keep it going at
this point. So you take onhere this two more games before the All
Star break. You take on SanDiego tomorrow night, Winnipeg or Manitoba excuse
me on Friday night. Uh,are you getting out of town for a

(30:18):
while. Yeah, me and mygirlfriend actually with the Bahamas for the for
the break. That's not that'll begreat, but it'd be great to have
two more wins on it, right. Yeah. Absolutely, it'll make going
into the break a lot better,no doubt about that, No doubt about
that. This has been fun,and I've I've said this and this has
been a constant theme, but Ihaven't had to touch on it here for

(30:41):
a while. But the dog daysof a season, we were out in
Las Vegas when it got cold andsnowy here in Milwaukee, so we missed
a lot of that. We werein Las Vegas, so we didn't get
kind of the the the drudgery ofof just busting around the Midwest. You're
on a ten game heater, likeso many many things are able to keep

(31:02):
you away from what is traditionally thedog days of a season. Yeah,
exactly, that part of it's reallynice. Like you said, it's tough.
Like some days in the year,I haven't really had that. I
mean I had a little bit ofthat to it's been different now where it's
just like you have so many gamesand everything. But I mean winning alwas
helps. Like I said, it'sjust so it makes everything quite a bit
better, no doubt about that.Jake. Will let you go. We

(31:26):
can't thank you enough for the time. Keep up the great work. Congratulations
on the goal. Where does where? Where will you put the puck?
Who's gonna Is that gonna go backto home? Or is it going to
stay with you? I'll probably ifi'd stay with me for a bad match,
I'll probably I have a Me andmy brother have a shelf and that
my dad built for just like hockeyaccomplishments and just like life, accomplishment better

(31:49):
than the basement there, I'll probablyjust go up on there eventually. Excellent,
excellent, Thanks again, Jake. We'll see you tomorrow at the rink.
Sounds good, all right, AdmiralsDefenseman Jake Livingstone. The Admirals have
won ten straight, as we've mentioned, playing some great, great, great
hockey, and we're going to keepit going here tomorrow. Yes, I'll

(32:14):
tell you what though Rockford, Craiggave us everything you can handle the other
night. Yeah, hotly go theydid. But I tell you what,
I might have been there. Imean that they really Yeah, they brought
it for a while. Yeah, the first fifteen the Admiral scored that first
goal, and then after that itwas called an all Rockford for that first
period. Yes, and then theAdmirals kind of got it straightened out.
And you look at the two goalsRockford scored, and they weren't great,

(32:36):
right, one was you know, one was in the crease and the other
you know it just they weren't thebest, you know. So it's like
it's like we didn't give up somegreat chances there. This ten game streak,
the Admirals goaltenders have combined to stopninety five point three percent of the
shots. It's impressive, right, impressive? Right? And Grossnick forty two

(32:58):
out of forty two Yarrow is twohundred out of two twelve uh and combined
for five shutouts in his ten gamewinning stretch. Just amazing, it really
is. Those numbers are are justsilly, you know what. Again,
what was really impressive and we goto Vegas, you know, and it's
and arguably it's it's difficult to stayfocused, right and not only do we

(33:19):
shut shut out a I mean apretty good Henderson team once we shut them
out twice like man, well, and you're right, Like I remember,
I remember talking with Todd Richards becausehe played for the Old Thunder in the
i h L, and I askedhim what was it like to play in
Las Vegas? And he said, you know what, it was harder for
the teams coming in. We wereused to it, and we knew you
know, we knew better, andwe were pros. And and the old

(33:39):
IHL was filled with pros. Right, that's not that's not you know,
this wasn't This wasn't a lot ofkids green behind wet behind the ears.
This was this was pros. Buthe said the teams would come in and
obviously there would be the you know, the you probably should have a curfew,
and you can't really implement a curfewwith a bunch of thirty year old

(34:00):
guys. But but that's that's probablywhere it could have gone. So the
Vegas team, whether it was theEHL afterwards with the Wranglers or the thunder
from ninety three to ninety nine.Hell of a home ice advantage. Oh
yeah, no question, And butthings have changed certainly, and and you
know, it's a it's a differentballgame, hockey game, if you will.

(34:22):
And the admirals in particular because weexperienced it. But it was all
business and then once once they gotleft the ring, then it was time
for funtely. On that last night, absolutely, and I'm sure there was
much fun. Yes there wasn't,but yeah, it's this team. They

(34:44):
know when to have fun, theyknow when to work hard, they know
when they they're playing for each other, you said, and we don't want
to get too far ahead of anything, right, but it's just special.
Charlie Larson and I were talking comparingit to the nineteen twenty season. You
have a veteran player trying to getback to the NHL who's leading the way.
So Jankowski compares with Daniel Carr. You have a goaltending situation where you

(35:07):
have a prospect and a veteran. It happens to be the same veteran in
goal, and back then it wasIngram. This year it's Yarrow. You
have a strong defensive corps, youhave a Russian who's having a breakout season.
Back then it was trendon. Thisyear, it's igor like, it's
just so many things that are similarto that nineteen to twenty campaign that we

(35:28):
just can do without the global pandemic. Yes exactly, and I hope,
yeah, exactly, We're going totake a break. When we come back,
we'll have more. It's Milwaukee AdmiralCenter Ice. Welcome back to Milwaukee
Admiral Center Ice with Michael Jahowski.I'm Aaron Simms. The Admirals have now
they're starting a five game homestand nowthe All Star break is in between.
But five game homestand beginning tomorrow nighthockey is for every one night here at

(35:52):
Panther Arena. There's a special Hockeyis for Everyone ticket package. You can
get some mittens out of it.Go to Milwaukee Admirals dot com and checked
out all of that out. Butit's going to be a fun night.
There's going to be wasaw. Thesled hockey group is going to be out
here to show off a little bityou speaking of that, Will Joe.

(36:14):
Yesterday, USA Hockey put out arelease Dave Conklin passed away. Dave was
born in Edgerton, and I believehe lived in the Lacrosse area. So
twenty five years ago, I'm workingin Lacrosse doing radio shows and things like
that in high school sports and allof this, and Dave Conklin came in.
He was a member of the ninetyeight Olympic team, the first year
they the Paralympic team. I thinkit was the first year they had the

(36:37):
US taking part in this. Andthe US took six out of six teams
in ninety eight and came back Ithink it was four years later, won
the gold in Salt Lake. ButDave was a member of these teams.
And Dave passed away recently, andthe news came out yesterday. Dave came
in to the radio station I wasworking at. It was a rock station.
We had two rock stations, onealtern of one classic rock and one

(37:01):
sports station. So Dave came inand was fantastic, and he told some
great stories traveling the world and playingsled hockey, and I was it was
a new thing to me, AndI think about this is twenty six,
twenty seven years ago, when youknow, twenty five years ago, so
I really had very little concept ofwhat this was all about so being at

(37:22):
the radio station, I get ropedinto being the guy who has to go
out and get in the sled forthe charity game that they have coming up
to raise money for whatever they wereraising money for at the Alaska Omni Center.
Yep. So I go out andhe had four or five of his
teammates in as well, and Igo out, and my goodness, that
was maybe the single hardest sports endeavorI've had to do in my life.

(37:45):
The upper body strength and the nimblenessand the way these guys can use their
edges to get around and all ofthat stuff. I was reading a quote
from Rick Middleton, was the coachof that first team, the former Boston
Bruins. Great. He was tothat first team and he said they were
doing drills and he said, uh, okay backwards and they're like, we

(38:05):
don't go backwards, Coach, We'reon sleds. We don't go backwards.
He's like, oh, yeah, okay, sorry about that. Yeah,
But anyway, Dave was just fantastic. He was really, truly in every
sense of the word, a pioneer, and the USA Hockey and hockey in
general, the sled people specifically, they lost a really really good guy.

(38:28):
It's just it's just incredible. Andyou know, people have a chance to
try it, yes, yeah, and I and I hope they do.
My nephew is a big part ofit on a team in Minnesota, and
it's yeah, it's it's really incredibleto watch these people go. It wasn't
hockey. But after our Summerfest show, I used to do it just like
you do our Summerfest shows. Everyevery day. We used to do two

(38:50):
shows all the time, right foryears, and right between our show our
two shows was wheelchair basket Sure. And one day I was I got off
the court and you know, it'skind of thing and a bunch of people
that were supposed to play wheelchair againstthe wheelchair guys that were doing it for
some reason weren't showing up. Sothey know, they asked me and a

(39:15):
bunch of people recruited if if we'dbe willing if one of our which player
it was? I think I thinkit was, uh, well, I
think it was Eve Preston and andI actually uh hopped in wheelchairs. And
I will tell you the longest fortyminutes of my entire life. I mean,
just you know, the bang inthe I mean it was. I

(39:35):
mean, they you don't understand, you don't know. I mean, and
then you're gonna ask me to dribblea basketball between this right, Yeah,
but it was just incredible and theamount of respect for the for for those
people, I mean for for youknow, for the disabled, the people
that play wheelchair basketball or the wheelchairuh hockey hockey people unbelievable, unbelievable.

(39:59):
It really is. Is something tosee. And if you get a chance
to jump in a sled, byall means, take it and just kind
of the walk a mile in somebodyelse's shoes kind of thing, because it's
really really eye opening and incredible. And we lost by a lot, by
the way, Yeah I lost bya lot. Yeah, I get it.

(40:19):
I totally get it. We aregoing to take a break. We'll
come back and wrap things up.You're listening to Milwaukee Admiral Center Ice one
final time Milwaukee Admiral Center Ice withMike wil Jehowski. I'm Aaron Simson.
The Admiral's hosting San Diego tomorrow.San Diego was the last team to beat
Milwaukee here at Panther Arena. Thatwas December the sixth. YEP and they've
won three straight. They are playingsome pretty good hockey San Diego. The

(40:43):
Admirals sense then by the way, nine and oh at home forty four goals
for twenty against, so about fivegoals a game, two point two allowed,
not too shabby. Reminder that tomorrowis a six point thirty face off,
not a seven o'clock tomorrow. We'llhave the coverage beginning at six pm
here on the Big nine twenty inyour iHeartRadio app. But again a six

(41:06):
thirty face off. And there's acouple of nights that have that. Everybody
asked me why, and I cansay nothing more. I mean, the
only thing I'm gonna tell you isit's an experiment. Yes, you know
it something just a little different. So we've been at seven o'clock weeknights forever,
and you know, and John Greenbergsaid, hey, why don't we
try six a little earlier on aTuesday, get people home a little early
and see what happens. Yeah,so we're gonna try the six thirty tomorrow

(41:28):
again, six thirty face off theAdmirals in San Diego, and then Friday
night, Manitoba comes to town,Jersey. Yeah Friday, Yeah, but
wine shirts so why not your shirt? Yep, yeah, Brewers Hawaiian shirts
courtesy of the Brewers obviously. Andthen and then it's the All Star break
and the Admirals will have Yaroslav ascar Off and Spencer Stasney taking part out
in San Jose on February fourth andfifth, and then Milwaukee is back added

(41:51):
at home. Included in that stretchis a game on February tenth where a
cheap trick will perform. Absolutely afterthe game and looking forward to that.
That's my favorite National Pizza Day onthe on February ninth. There you go
National Pizza Day scream at Sicilian PizzaCutters. So the first thirty five hundred
excellent. So lots fun weekend, lots coming up, winning Weekday tomorrow,

(42:14):
lots coming up. Visit Milwaukee Admiralsdot com. In our last twenty seconds,
I want to tell you how muchI appreciated, enjoyed seeing Tesla.
I was fifteen years old the firsttime I heard the song that goes There's
no Way Out, No Way Out, and I was in a locker room
and at Wakota Arena which is nowDoug Woog Arena, and sel Saint Paul
Minnesota. First time I heard theband was that nineteen eighty eight, and

(42:36):
I waited this long to see him, and they were tremendous, did a
great job and it made Aaron Simmsall time top three. It did made
my top three. We're gonna wrapthings up, thanks for listening tonight to
