(00:48):
there's his number one Chevy dealer onlineat mal Chevy dot com. And we
are very very happy to be joinedby Mark Peterson, Executive director of the
Golf Association of Philadelphia. It's longoverdue that we've had someone from GAP on
this show. We've we've talked aboutit. I've I've met Mario a couple
of times and we talked about havingsomeone on so we are thrilled to have
you on Mark. Thanks for joiningSwinging and dang it, yeah, thank

(01:11):
you for having me. It shouldbe fun absolutely, Harry Mays, how
are you doing on this fine coolspring morning in the Delaware? It is
very cold. I went out tostart the wife's car before she went left
for work, and it was freezingout. There is not no, it's
not. People see that rough exteriorof Harry's, but they don't know deep
inside, you know, right,he really I'm dealing with I don't know

(01:34):
if you guys are dealing with this, but birds nesting, trying to nest
on your property? Anybody dealing Ohyeah, oh yeah, I'm a I'm
gonna fight with a robin for likefive days straight. He builds I knocked
down. He built, or sheand I knocked down. It's a it's
a war around here. But Idigress. It's not about that. It's
about the Golf Association Philadelphia. Uh, Mark, So talk Obviously, we
want to we want to get intoa lot about the growth where you guys

(01:57):
are headed, the different events thatyou guys have. But let's start with
you right Where where did you comefrom? How did you wind up here?
And talk about your golf journey ifyou will. Yeah. So my
golf journey. I started as aback room kid in UH in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. I lasted two weeks andthen I didn't make it anymore. Right,
I was going after school and scrubbingclubs, and in two weeks I

(02:21):
made minimum wage and I got twodollars in a tip, and I said,
you know, I think I cando a little better. Unfortunately,
through then, I talk about itall the time through the network of golf.
My father knew the executive director ofthe Wisconsin State Golf Association, so
I interned there for three summers.Basically got transferred to GAP. I came
out here, went to Villanova, who was fortunate to play on the golf
team. I was an intern ata GAP for a couple of years,

(02:44):
and shortly out of college, hadan opportunity to become executive director. Hey,
Mark, if you had to givean elevator pitch on GAP, how
would you just describe it to somebodywho has no idea what it is as
you guys do. Yeah, Ithink I give that elevator pitch like three
times a week, especially when I'mstanding on the side of a baseball field

(03:07):
watching my son play. You know, we are the promoters of the game.
We're not the teachers of the game. We're the promoters of the game.
We provide services to golf courses andgolf clubs, both private and public.
You know, from everything from handicapcomputation to events for those that are
little tikers to those that have enjoyedlife for quite some time. So if

(03:30):
you're if you're a competitive golfer,we have you. If you're a recreational
golfer, we have plenty of servicesfor you. And in recent years what
we focus on is is trying togrow the game through efforts with industry partners
like golf and schools and youth effortslike golf like youth on course and that
sort of stuff. And also youmentioned and what we'll go there now about

(03:52):
them more of was more of aprivate club organization and moving into affiliations with
more public courses. And you guyshave part with the Amateur Golf Society who
are partners of ours UM and Danand his team are fantastic, So talk
about programs like that and how theyexpand you know, the base of what's
going on for you guys, inthis area. Yeah. Well, I'm

(04:13):
happy to say when when I started, they had already opened the doors to
all types of golfers. So that'syou know, back in nineteen ninety five,
we made that great change to welcomeany golfer who enjoys the game.
Um, you know, so partnershipswith with DAN and the Amateur Golf Tour,
or or opportunities to promote the gamein public arenas, in opportunities for

(04:38):
kids to play basically subsidized rounds ofgolf, like youth on course. That's
where that's where we're focused. Um, just making certain that anybody who wants
to touch a club can touch aclub, whether it's financially available to them
or not. Um, and justtry and enjoy the game. The pandemic
has has allowed everybody an opportunity toyou know, enjoy this this game outside.

(05:03):
Talk about some of the challenges withyoung people taking up the game,
because it's not a game there's wherethere's immediate success. It's a it's a
hard thing to learn, it's ahard skill to really you know handle.
What What are some of the challengesyou guys come across with with young people
taking up the game? Well,I think. You know, Harry,

(05:24):
we can all agree it's a frustratinggame. Yeah. I've been playing since
I was five and haven't mastered it. We'll never master it. You know,
even those on tours are still workingevery single day to get better and
get better. So, you know, I think some of the challenges right
now, um is just the successof other sports and team sports and team

(05:45):
camaraderie. Um, golf is atan all time high. Don't get me
wrong, But you know, Isay, if my son, you know,
grew up playing flag football and baseball, little league and and you know
he didn't play lacrosse, but lacrosseis so big right now. You know,
just the opportunities of other sports makesits challenging. The other challenge for
golf is it's not it's it canbe expensive, um it. You know,

(06:09):
so time and cost are some ofour biggest, um, you know,
hurdles to get past. Now,Mark, you mentioned golf during a
pandemic, and we've talked to alot of people over the past couple of
years of this podcast, golf courseowners, uh, teachers, everything,
and talked about the explosion. Howdo you capitalize on that and continue in
a post pandemic world. Right,I'm sure that's what everyone's looking into.

(06:31):
Right. People got into the game, they sampled it, they liked it.
How do you keep them involved andinterested and growing, you know,
for the next couple of years.Yeah, sure, Well it's not just
a GAP task. It's it's youknow, all of our industry partners,
right, It's the golf course owners, it's the club managers, it's the
you know, the PGA section, right, the teachers of the game.
Um. You know. Really, what what we're trying to do is provide

(06:56):
access um and and that's a greatthing for GAP. Right. You can
go to our website, click join, and easily do it online. But
then you gain access to all ofthe facilities of GAP. Not on an
everyday basis, but we have thingsthat we call member play dates, so
an opportunity to play a private clubwhere you might not know a member,
you know, opportunities to play eithersocial events or fun events or competitive events.

(07:20):
So, you know, just tryingto provide all the services possible and
make certain that we keep these individuals, you know, touching the game through
publications, social media, that sortof stuff, fun videos, news.
Everybody loves to tee it up though. That's the that's the golden thing.
Oh yeah, then of course everyyear, you know, the annual gap.

(07:43):
Team Matches is something that's you know, the one of the bigger things
on the schedule. Talk about thisyear and you know the effect that you've
got upwards to four hundred teams participatingfour hundred teams yep, so twelve players
per team, so quite possibly thebiggest largest team event in the country or
the world, you know, onehundred and seventy three participating clubs. We

(08:09):
kick it off this Sunday, youknow, mostly because it's my birthday.
That's why we schedule it for thatnow. So you know, one of
the things that Team Matches is kindof known for is team match weather.
Have you ever played golf on ona cold, windy, rainy, nasty
day and somebody you know in mygroup would say, oh, this is
team match weather. So what what'sgoing to happen this Sunday? It's going

(08:30):
to rain. Yeah, that's whatthe schedule is. So we're hoping,
we're hoping the rain comes through onSaturday night and gets out. But yeah,
team matches is it's such a greatway to get out and play New
courses and meet new individuals. Ialways play on the Await team. So
how the team matches work. Theretwelve players per team. Six play at
home, six play away. Soyou know, we'll we'll jump in the

(08:52):
car with a couple of buddies fromthe club and go play, go play
on the road. We always callit the road Warriors. And you know,
it's it's just fun. It's abouthaving fun. But it can get
very competitive at the highest level.Yeah, that is team match weather.
Mean, the only reason I'm outhere playing is because I'm on this team
and I can't let my guys down. There is a lot of that,

(09:13):
right, There's a lot of that, and it's hard, you know,
especially with young families. You knowwhen when you have to play three Sundays
in a row and it's always inthe spring, and there's you know,
there's there's family celebrations and and youknow whatever have you graduations and stuff.
Um, right, there's a lotof pressure within you know, within the
club to support the team. Andwhen you get to that higher level or

(09:37):
you know, it's basically like apyramid. When you get to that higher
level, Um, you know, guys will will flat out call other guys
out saying, look, where wereyou last Sunday? I was there?
Well, Mark, talk about howthat started. There's some pretty uh,
pretty well known golf courses that whenyou started the team matches in eighteen ninety

(09:58):
seven, we're a part of Yeah, original iteration of that, you had
Philly Cricket, Marion Aronomic, andPhilly Country Club founding member clubs. Wow.
Yeah, yeah, that's aunt right, it's a good it's a good
way to start, you know. And and GAP we're never shy about saying

(10:18):
that we're the oldest state or regionalgolf association. Right. So, just
a couple of years after the USGA, we had some some wise gentlemen decide
that they wanted to start a golfassociation, and only a couple weeks later
there were some some great women thatalso created the Women's Golf Association in Philadelphia.
So tons of history obviously in Philadelphia. Um, we are blessed in

(10:41):
Philadelphia to have the election of golfcourses that we have, right, Yeah,
we'll we'll go toe to toe withNew York, with with Chicago,
with Boston. You know, myfriends up at the Metropolitan Association in New
York say, well, why don'tyou just come out to Long Island for
a couple of days, Mark, like you'll you'll see where golf is.
But I've never I'm never shy abouthow having him down to Philly and uh,

(11:01):
you know, showing our swagger aswell. Yeah, yeah, Moose
and I always referred to it atwhat do we say? An embarrassment of
riches? That's right. I believeWill Davenport was the first one that coined
that phrase for us. Is thatright? Well? One of the the
way I phrase it in philip Isay, in Philadelphia we have thirty five
courses that if you have a businessmeeting but you got invited to go play

(11:22):
this, you would change your meetingand just go play that golf course.
I mean, we can, wecan talk about the founding member clubs,
but the list goes on and onand on. That's where our strength is,
our depth. Yes, it runsdeep, that's for sure. I
talk about this year's major's schedule.Obviously you got some great venues on tap
for the various majors coming up.And it's funny. Harry our co host

(11:43):
and Mark Danielle Matthews married to BrandonMatthews. He has some experience in some
of these matches, I'm pretty sureas well. And you know, we
talked about a lot of the guysfrom a Temple program and that have played
in the Patterson Cup, and youknow we've had Jeff Osberg on the program
before. I mean, these thesecompetitions aren't credible, let's face it.
Yeah, you know, so we'rewe're you know, our Crown Jewels,

(12:05):
the Philadelphia Amateur. We're going toHuntington Valley, a great spot, um,
you know, Philadelphia Open look away. We've got Lanark for the Patterson
Cup and I think we kick offat Old York Road for the for the
Midamm. You know, just gettingthrough some getting through some qualifiers for the
for the Midam right now. Butyou know, again, it's it's the

(12:26):
depth of fantastic Philadelphia venues, right. Huntington Valley probably has the greatest collection
of players in their club history, right the Hyman's and the Brewers, and
just keeps on going and continues. So exciting to uh to get started.
So yeah, we just we justhad two qualifiers at for the Midam at

(12:48):
Five Ponds and at m Scotland Run. So excited. Two guys from the
club that I played that I getto play my golf. We're medalist and
in each of those so trying itcomes strong. But it's it's a fun
it's a fun time of year forus. Yeah, it's a busy time
of year. I'm sure, Mark, you've made some great strategic partnerships.

(13:09):
Um, you know, we're reallygood friends with obviously Harry Donna Hue from
Inside Golf and I love seeing thecoverage that you get on on on there
and obviously we talked about Dan fromthe Amateur Golf Society talk about that part
of things, right, it's andthat's what we've seen Harry and I and
Danielle is and Danielle knew this andHarry probably knew it along before I did.
It's like the golf community is areally special one, right and once
you get to know people, um, you know, the network of people

(13:31):
that are involved in this game arejust incredible. And I think you've made
some really smart decisions. And wheredo you see that moving forward and maybe
talk about some of the partnerships thatyou've you've built over the years. Yeah,
Well, you know, when whenwhen you're a small team and we're
we've grown tremendously here in the lastfive six years. You know, when
I started, we were six staffmembers. Now we're you know, pushing

(13:54):
twenty eight staff members in seven interns. So we're still a small shop.
So we need to make those strategiespartnerships to help us elevate you know,
our brand, elevate awareness, um, you know, grow the game.
So you know, Inside Golf hasbeen phenomenal for us just in getting the
word out about what gap is,Right, Harry, it's the what's the

(14:15):
elevator speech? Well, that's helpingus with the elevator speech on on every
single broadcast. Um. You knowDan and his team at the Amateur Golf
Tour, they're they're doing something special. And he is a he is a
he is a very bright man whocontinues to just push the envelope. And
you know when when we partnered withhim through the Workhorse Tour, and you
know, as it continues to grow, I just said to Mario and our

(14:39):
team here, like we got tohook our our, you know, our
bus onto the our, you know, onto this train. It's it's it's
going somewhere, um. And it'sjust another effort for us to get in
front of those public golfers a littlebit more and encourage them to understand what
GAP does and how it can help, uh, not only just their game,
but everybody's game. Um, youknow, our our efforts in providing

(15:03):
services to member clubs, we don'treally talk about a lot, but you
know, small things when the golfwhen the game was shut down, we
we you know, banded together withour club industry partners and you know,
went to Harrisburg, created the PennsylvaniaAlliance for Golf, tried to you know,
get to the governor to you know, reopen the game. So there's

(15:24):
a lot of there's a lot ofgood partnerships, and you know it's it's
never just GAP, right, everybodyis doing their part. We all trying
to stay in our lane, butwe also try and assist everybody. Yeah,
and for you know, all yourassistance to with getting the game back
open, I got to thank youbecause I was going absolutely out of my
mind as everybody was. I'm sure. Yeah, I'm fortunate to live right

(15:46):
on a golf course, so itwas pretty Uh it was you know,
no fun to just watch you know, four workers cut the grass for nobody
to play. Yeah. Yeah,we had people that live. You know,
next to the club that I'm amember. I'd call the police because
they saw us out there playing golf, and you know, it's crazy times.
Yeah, hopefully we never go backto that. No, no,

(16:07):
no, no, not at all. Make sure you go to gap golf
dot org to check everything out andMark, I think it's you know,
there's some great golf to get outand watch, right we talk about these
matches. This this is open tothe public, right people can come out
and take a look. And it'sthat the best place to go to really
check on everything that's upcoming and thingsthat are available for the public to take
advantage of. Certainly gap golf dotorg at the website or you know,

(16:29):
obviously social media is a growing growingaspects of Twitter, Instagram, Facebook,
always good. We do live streamsome of our events, but you know,
I'll put a plug in just likemany other areas, and you guys
mentioned Jeff Osberg. You know,we've got the Michael McDermott history and so
many great young players that continue toelevate their games. So you know,

(16:52):
if you come out and watch aPhiladelphia Amateur final, you'll be with a
couple of hundred people and watching somereally really great goal. Tremendous well,
Mark, thank you for some timethis morning. We've really appreciate you given
us the elevator pitch and much muchmore about what the Golf Association Philadelphia does.
Incredible matches coming up. Make sureyou learn more and support this incredible

(17:14):
organization that keeps the game growing inour area. Continued success, Mark,
We'll look for ways that we cankind of partner up in the future and
see if we could help each otherout. But we were thrilled to have
you join us to that. Thankyou, Yeah, thank you for having
me than you. Thanks Mark. All right, let's take a quick break
and we will be right back. All right, Welcome back to Swing and

(17:36):
Ding. It very great to talkto anyone from the Golf Association in Philadelphia.
Have be talking about a powerhouse organizationin the country, right, you
know, founded in eighteen ninety seventy, the oldest state regional golf association in
the country. One hundred thousand members, three hundred forty member clubs, over
two hundred events event days each year. I mean, to do what they

(17:56):
do with the relatively small team isimpressive. Yeah, I imagine Mark and
his staff take a lot of phonecalls from the other associations scattered around the
country for consulting. Oh yeah,of how to do it, because they
do it the right way. Yeahyeah. And thanks to Mario Machi for

(18:17):
for connecting the dots and getting uson. He's the assistant executive director at
Gappin does a lot in the areato really promote the game and kind of
the liaison with a lot of theseorganizations. So great, too great to
have him on, Harry, Thanksfor holding it down last week, man,
appreciate that. Oh yeah, wehad We had a good time.
You know, we missed you andI was feeling for you because I was
just trying to put myself in yourshoes for thirty seconds. And yeah,

(18:41):
I mean that would be quite aweek. Ten people, my parents,
Yes, you're finding there. Theairline on on social media a couple of
posts about the air line and chargingbag fees. Great way to start things
out. How about that if youbook as a group, they see you
as an entity. So instead ofif if eight people booked you each get

(19:03):
a bag free, only the firstperson, me got a bag free.
It's ridiculous free ticket. I hateto do it to them. Harry Yeah,
that's that's that is that is stupid. They should be called out for
that. Yeah, I had myunder arm or slip speeds on walking eight
miles a day in Disney World.Oh yeah, are you counting steps?
Yeah I did a couple of days. But uh, and you know,
my parents are getting up there. So my neck hurts from looking back to

(19:26):
see where the hell they are.Oh, there they go. I see
them, they're coming here. Theycome. Take your time. You got
a circle back and then everybody linesup. All right, let's move.
Hang on, someone stones, that'sgotta go to the bathroom over you know,
it's like herd in cats. Butit was fun. It was a
great family getaway. And I'm lookingI'm happy to be back and resting up
and get ready to play golf. But the RBC heritage, Harry, I

(19:49):
don't know if you've if you've caughtit all during the broadcast, but Matt
Fitzpatchrierck used to go there a coupleof times as a kid. Yeah,
I understand he actually went there onvacation as a kid. Dude, did
they beat the crap out of storyline? Is it is it me? Or
is it like? I love it? The storyline's great. But yeah,
and I guess people are tuning inat all different times, so you have
to keep retelling it. But forpeople like else who watch it, it's
like you get it. I know, I've seen the picture. I can

(20:11):
I could basically draw him as ayouth. I've seen it so many times.
But it was it is a coolstory the week after the Masters where
you had to hold all the tieins with Sevy Bias, Sterots and John
rom and you know they beat thoseto death too, but it is kind
of cool, like when things likethat sort of come together, you know,

(20:32):
and a guy, you know,if you think about that, I
went there as a kid, andhere I am, you know, winning
a championship and you know, wearingthe Tartan jacket and stuff. It is
it is pretty neat. Yeah.Yeah, twenty eight years old gets his
second win, jumps up to worldnumber eight. The three whole playoff against
Beith was tremendous, and you know, we talk about all the time it's

(20:52):
wins are made of consistency. Andthen a signature shot somewhere along the line
and and did he ever hit that? On the eighteenth during the third playoff
hole with a nine iron, anice comfortable nine irons, as he said,
to really make to put the nailin it to win the match.
Yeah, I mean that that wasa tremendous shot. It's basically a tap
in. After he had seen JordanSpief miss very makeable birdie putts on the

(21:15):
two previous playoff holes, I justI guess you figured, you know what,
I'm not giving this guy another chanceto run one in because I'm just
gonna take this tournament and fire andiron right in there. But that is
really cool. It's a it's acool golf course to, you know,
to watch a tournament on it.I don't know if I'd really enjoy playing
it because it is so tight andall. You know, there's a lot

(21:36):
of trees overhanging the fairways that reallyyou can put you out of position.
I'd imagine to be very frustrating forsomeone like me to play it. But
I do love watching those guys playit. Yeah, yeah, interesting.
He had rory withdrawal. Yeah, and there was a lot of talk about
like, no communication about it,nothing from Monahan. You know, he
was kind of that no injury sightedright, right, And you know he

(21:59):
was the one that was at theforefront if of really putting this whole thing
together. Um, you know,it just as strange that you don't get
that, and there's no other sportwould would would you not hear? Why?
Right? Right right with Rory andgolf and some of the players even
were vocal that that didn't sit wellwith them. Well right, I mean,
you know, it's part of thething when you're putting yourself out there
as sort of the spokesperson, thede facto you know, leader of the

(22:23):
tour, and then all of asudden, you you know, you have
a disappointing weekend at the Masters, and then you decide, you know what,
I'm not playing the next week, even though it's an elevated event.
You know, people want to knowwhy. And I thought he'd throw out
the you know, the famous youknow, lower back injury or something that
you really can't prove it's not youknow what I mean what I mean yea,
And he didn't do that. Um, and you know he may suffer

(22:47):
some financial penalty for this. Imean he could be he could be docked
a you know, a couple milliondollars who knows for this pip fund because
you gotta you're only allowed to bailonce and he already did that in Hawaii.
Yeah. Yeah, we'll see wherethat goes. A couple of other
interesting things. Um, you knowJohn Ram, who coming off the Masters.
Here's a guy who wins the Mastersand shows up and plays in this
tournament. So where are you at, Rory m It was cool, Yeah,

(23:10):
and then he jumps into booth.Did you catch any of Yeah?
I did. I enjoyed it,you know, I mean, you know,
t fifteen, he didn't really haveto play. He could have taken
this week as and everybody would haveunderstood it. But you know, apparently
he said, you know, I'mplaying because there might be kids coming out
to see the Masters champion. Ithought that was really cool. You talking
about growing the game. That's kindof the way it is, you know,

(23:33):
young, you know, seven eightyear old the Matt Fitzpatrick's at eight
years old, vacationing in Hilton Head. Want to go see John Ram and
maybe they grow up to be agolfer. So I thought that was pretty
cool. And he shot sixty fouron Friday. You know you're thinking like
maybe he'll just go, you know, on into the night and you know,
take the weekend off and miss thecut. But no, you know

(23:55):
he shoots sixty four and uh youknow, was in it on the weekend
and finished T fifteen as you saidat eleven under par so good weekend out
of John. Yeah. The morethe more you hear from John Roum,
the more you see who this guyis, right, and he just loves
the game of golf. He lovesthe history of it. Um. He
connects with the with the crowds.Yes, he's fiery, but who isn't

(24:15):
you know, play around with youor I and you know you wouldn't want
to have a camera on us.But great work out of round. On
the other side, you have thestoryline that continues with our friend Patrick Cantlay,
and I would love to see HarryMay's in a pro am if you
will, playing alongside Patrick Cantlay.I would love to see the facial expressions,
just like Billy Foster. Yeah,Billy Foster or Brooks kept people like

(24:40):
that, and you know that justcan't hide it. I couldn't hide it.
After about six goals, I'd belike, come on, man,
let's go. They showed under hisfeet. It was like it was a
four footer and I think it wasa minute in like forty seconds or something
for the four footer. But Idon't. I mean he kind of has
like trolled back on social media, but I mean people now are all over

(25:03):
it and you're hearing groans. Imean, it's it's got to eventually affect
his play. Um. I don'tknow. I just there's rules in place
that sometimes don't seem to be enforced. Um. It pops up right once
a year at the Slope Slope Playdebate, and right now it's it's all
centered around Patrick Handley. Yeah, there's just some people out there saying that
they should implement a shot clock, kind of like they have now in baseball,

(25:26):
where you got to pitch the ball, uh, you know, with
a certain amount of seconds or they'lljust you know, call a ball or
a strike depending on who's still layingthe batter or the pitcher. I don't
know that I ever see that comingto golf. But he's not the only
one either, Okay. Let youknow, I know he's getting the brunt
of the abuse right now because ofyou know, what have they said at
the Masters, But there was plentyother there's plenty others on the tour that

(25:49):
are that are equally as slow.Oh yeah, you don't see JB.
Holmes much, but he's the onethat, Yeah, he's notorious. But
how about Ricky Fowler's week? Yeah, you know, he play well,
like a top fifteen. You know, he was, he was threatening the
top of the leader board early inthe first couple of rounds. So it's
good to see. You know,we keep waiting for him to knock one
down, and I think, youknow, we keep saying it's coming,

(26:11):
and I still believe it is comingand will happen this year. But another
good weekend from him. And howabout what the week that Victor Hovelin had.
If he shot an opening round sixtyfour, He's right at the top
of the board, looking unbelievable andfinished one under par T fifty nine.
He just disappeared. Man, I'dimagine having him in a one and done.

(26:34):
You're like, yeah, look lookat this, it's aft to a
great lead, and all of asudden you finished. It's T fifty nine.
Crazy. We talked about it,right, We talked to Mark Peterson
about the game is a frustrating game. We'll see it at the highest level.
But and and I've been watching somestuff about viewership and ratings, and
I think it's increasing, right.I think the Master's were up, you

(26:57):
know, ten percent in view andeven over like the highest level of twenty
eighteen, twenty nineteen, the RBCHeritage at four point five million viewers.
So great to see, um,you know, people engaged in kind of
that post Tiger takeover era. Tosee guys like John Ram that are out
there performing weekend and week out.Yeah, I mean it's you know,

(27:19):
it's important that you mentioned, youknow, without Tiger Woods, because I
think there was there was a lotof hand ringing amongst in boardrooms of television
networks like what are we gonna do, you know, without Tiger And it's
looking like, you know, withthese elevated events and just some of the
you know, the breadth of talent. Uh. You know in these fields
that people are interested, it's notyou know, it's they're gonna survive without

(27:42):
Tiger. Oh yeah, yep, they certainly are. And Harry, We're
gonna survive the Uh. I don'tknow how we're gonna survive because I'm cramming
ten pounds of crap in a fivepound bag for the Fox Sports The Gambler
Swing. It ending it open, benefiting the magical meal of Foundation each week.
Carry there's more added to this thing. I'm telling you it's gonna be
the most fun golf outing you've everplayed in. Uh Mal Chevrolet as you

(28:06):
know, has signed on. Therewill be a hole in one for a
vehicle. Um, all access ourfriends and all access Ryan Gaino. There,
there's gonna be a drop trip forIreland up for grabs. Our friend
Robini the incredible custom suit maker. How about this, if you are the
longest Drive Champion, You're gonna getfitted for a custom suit right on,
right off of the eighteenth Is thatright? He's got the tape measure,

(28:30):
right, got the tape measure. And also we've made friends through Wes Patterson
with the Dormy Workshop who make incrediblehead covers. How about our logo with
long Drive Champion to just put thatdriver in and having your bag for the
year to show off. Oh wow. Ye, my friends from from Terra
Nova Restaurant in Washington Township have signedon. Lev Lane Agency has signed on

(28:55):
and we're looking into adding a coupleof fun elements. Um, you've seen
the back golf challenge with some ofthe country club adjacent guys where they kind
of roast people right before they're aboutthe swing. We may have a couple
of comedians out there participating in theback off challenge, is that right?
Yeah? Yeah, we're looking atmaybe have you ever seen the guys that
do the freestyle as guys are teeingoff, we may have a freestyle rapper

(29:18):
involved. I mean, there's somuch going on. I'm not familiar with
the back off Challenge. You gottaI'll send you a link. Yeah,
okay, give me up to speedon that. Yep, I'll send you
a link to that. It's hilarious. But yeah, there's we're gonna have
hecklers, is what you're saying exactlyexactly. So probably still about maybe forts

(29:38):
left. So don't wait, getin. You don't want to be on
the outside looking in with this becauseit is going to be an absolute blast
for sure. And where do theygo to sign up? Moose? We
will post it consistently on our socialmedia. Um, just look through and
we'll make sure we get it inthere. Um it's through a psych called
e Van Caddy, but we havethe links and all of our social media
platforms to sign and you do itnice and easy, right there, putting

(30:02):
in your information and you're done.Um. We go down to New Orleans.
Our Daniel Matthews is there. Wethought she was gonna be joining us.
She's having some technical difficulties. Maybeshe'll hop in at some point,
but we have basically the member membertournament at TPC Louisiana. I like this.
I love anytime there's something different.I enjoy watching it. Um.

(30:22):
You know, you have obviously obviouslythe slow play man that we talked about,
Patrick Cantlay with Xander who are theslow two by the way, that's
gonna be Both of these guys areslow. Yeah, oh yeah, yeah,
but they're great teammates. I meanthey you know, they've they've won
this before. Um, So Imean you know they're they're the favorites I

(30:44):
believe on the Draft King's board.Oh yeah, heavy favorites. Yeah,
yep. So you have alternating roundsof four ball in rounds one and three,
and foursomes are alternate shot rounds twoand four. So you get a
little bit of that, you know, Ryder Cup, President's Cup feel and
see some team guy which is alwaysinteresting. So looking forward to to check
in this one. Aff Yeah, and there's some interesting pairings to him.
And there's eighty teams in all andthe low thirty three and ties make it

(31:08):
to the weekend. But it's someinteresting pairings. You got, I mean
this this? Uh? You know, Soun Jam and Keith Mitchell's an interesting
pairing o our pal Brandon Matthews withSeawan O'Hare. Yeah, the pride of
Conquered Country Club in Pennsylvania. Talkabout talk about a gap venue. That's

(31:30):
a that's a cool pairing. Also, Sam Saunders with Eric Cole Did you
see that? Like that a lot? That's pretty cool. Maxhoma and Colin
Morrikawa the cow Bear team there. And of course Morrikwa probably will play out
of his mind this week because Ihad him last week in the one and
Done and he hits some of themost unbelievable iron shots approaches and couldn't drop

(31:52):
any puts. I don't know how. I can't imagine how frustrating that must
be to be that great of aball striker and then just not make any
pots. That's got to drive. It's gotta drive guys like him wild.
That's a good team too. MaxHolm is always great to root for.
Sam Burns and Billy Horschel Ye haveteamed up in this before and they second
last year. Well they were secondlast year and they finished T four back

(32:15):
in twenty twenty one. And thenthere's some young guys teaming up in uh
Thigala and justin Suh. That's aninteresting pairent. A lot of guys make
a lot of birdies in that group. And same with Montgomery and Kitty Yama.
Montgomery's one of the best putters thereis there their UNLV teammates from back
in college golf. That's that's gonnabe a fun group to watch. Oh

(32:37):
yeah, guess what, Harry thelandscapers are back? Is that what that
is? I thought there might havebeen a jet going over overche their first
first week back. I'm gonna haveto text my friend here and say,
hey, guys, can't do Wednesdaysaid Wednesday mornings unbelievable. So funny.
Yeah, and how about bum Horschellwon it with with Piercy in eighteen,
so he's got a ton of successhere a guy like Billy Horschel, So

(33:00):
very very interesting to see it.And it's playing like crap by now right
now too. This could be abig event to sort of jump start his
season because he has not been goodtotally yep, yep, And if you
get a chance, we shared it. But Colum Morcala had an incredible interview
alongside Maxhoma, just gushing over Maxhomatalking about how he came back when he
was on tour as an assistant forthe Cal team and helped coach and just

(33:23):
what a type of person he is. Just a really great interview. If
you get a chance to check thatone out, very good. But we
will see the line. And asyou know Harry from t de Green,
the best place to go to getin on all the action happening on the
links is DraftKings Sportsbook our partners. This week, new customers will receive an
odds boost to add plus one thousandto any pre tournament wager up to ten

(33:45):
dollars on any golfer to win.So we know how that works, right,
you have someone at plus one thousandDraft Kings will boost at the plus
two thousand. DraftKings obviously features Parlay'sodds boosts all tournament long, So make
sure you're checking the Draft King sportsBook app every day, and you know,
during a tournament throughout each morning. You know the way I see this,

(34:05):
Harry. There's a couple of matchupsI like. I think Kent Leansanerre
just too expensive to touch right now. But I like that Seawoo Kim Tom
Kim team, and I'm even gonnatake them in a matchup. I know
you mentioned Im and Mitchell, butI like Seawoo and Tom Kim at plus
money plus one oh five. Theother team that I am looking at is
Joel Damon and Denny McCarthy. DonnieMcCarthy can roll it. Oh yeah,

(34:30):
and plus thirty five hundred. That'sa pretty decent number. How about Hogi
and English. I like that teama lot, obviously, two really good
iron players at plus three thousand oreven if you want to take them in
a top five at plus seven hundredon Draft King sports Book. And then
I have to kind of take alook back, as you mentioned Burns and

(34:50):
Horschell, maybe in a matchup.I'm gonna keep my eye on that throughout
the tournament, maybe after round one, to see how things go. What
are you seeing? Well, I'mgonna take Billy Horschel in the swing and
ding it one and done pool justbecause when you take him, you're basically
riding Sam Burns and I don't haveto burn Sam Burns just yet, but
I can get the benefit of SamBurns. That's what's cool about this tournament.

(35:13):
If you're if you're in any ofthese one and done pools, I'll
take Billy Horschel, even though he'splaying like you know what. I think
he'll bounce back this week. Youmentioned English and HOGI I love that that
tandem. I'm taking a minus onetwenty in a matchup over Olison and Hogar,
the Danish team, which actually Ithink they're They're in the same group

(35:35):
as Sean o'haron Brandon Matthews in thefirst two days, so all eyes on
them, U Saw and Thigala atplus one seventy five and at top ten.
And I'm also going to take himin a matchup at minus one thirty
over bow Hostler and Wyndham Clark.I'll also take Stallings and Mullenax I like
that in a teach top twenty atplus one forty Those guys make a lot

(35:59):
of birdies. And I'm gonna takeSean o'haron Brandon Matthews in a top twenty
at plus money at plus three twenty. I think this is the week like
guest out week for our guy BrandonSo and use that code ding. That's
right, download the Draft King sportsBook app. Now use that code ding
and booster your odds during this weekend'stournament. That's code ding only on Draftking

(36:21):
sports Book. Gambling problem called onea hundred gambler in Massachusetts called one hundred
three two seven fifty fifty or visitgambling helpline MA dot org. It's also
a women's major this week there isfirst major of the year that's right on
the LPGA Tour. After fifty oneyears in Palm Springs, they are moving

(36:42):
this to a different venue in Houston, Texas, just outside of downtown Houston,
Texas, at the club at CarltonWoods. It's a Nicholas design.
It was the old Dinah Shore forall these years. Just a legendary spot
on the LPGA Tour where they jumpin the poppies pond that they'd win it,
right some of those videos, well, I think they're going to try

(37:04):
to make a pond at this venue, but they dredged it. But there's
also alligator netting because apparently there's gatorsnearby, which you don't have in Palm
Springs. There is no way I'mjumping in a pond with alligator netting.
Just just beforn. But I'm takinga couple of matchups in this. Selene
Boutier minus one fifteen over Danielle Kang, Leona McGuire minus one fifteen over Megan

(37:30):
Kang and jy k Jin Yungko minusone fifteen over Lydiaco. I'll be watching
some of that this week. Thatis a deep, deep see the line
segment. Thanks to our friends atDraftking sports Book. Make sure you check
it out well. Thanks to MarkPeterson, executive director at GAP, for
joining us. Thanks for holding itdown last week, Harry, and we

(37:51):
will resolutely back next week to recapthe Zurich Classic in New Orleans. Sure
it'll be nice and steamy down therefor everybody, as all these is in
that area. But food too, some of the best, one of probably
the best food city that I thatI visited. Um, you know,
very unique place for sure. Um. Yeah, I would like to maybe
attend this tournament one time. Thatyeah, that's one of the benefits of

(38:13):
attending this is they put up allthese food tents in at one near one
of the holes and They bring outsome of the best chefs from New Orleans,
you know, Bourbon Street and soforth, from those great restaurants.
Tremendous. All right, Harry,we will be back next week. Make
sure you check out the golf outingand sign up as soon as you can.
You're not gonna want to miss this. Thanks for listening, give it
to listen, swing it and dingit.
