we see the line towards the backhalf of the show for the Travelers Championship
and also mal Chevrolet South Jersey's anumber one Chevy dealer. We have some
(00:48):
US Open recapping Dude, Danielle andHarry quite a weekend in Los Angeles.
It's weird. Usually, like whenI after a tournament, I'll have like
my notes and it'll be like sentences. Right this time him, it's just
bullet points. It's like there werelike individual storylines like lacc Rory Wyndham,
Ricky JT. Right the course, all these like things had happened, but
(01:11):
um, there was a lot goingon with that, with that tournament.
And uh so we'll start Harry withyou, Um, what were your what
were your overall takeaways? I justgot to tell you that I was wildly
entertained the entire week and I cameacross I know, the golf course is
getting a lot of grief from certainpeople that it was you know, fairways
were too wide, and there weren'tenough fans allowed on the property and all
(01:34):
this. It was too much ofa corporate event. I gotta tell you,
I was watching it on television andit presented beautifully and I was thoroughly
entertained and enthralled in the golf. And Wyndham Clark blew me away with how
how he just nutted up on Sundayand hit some great golf shots in big
moments, and um, you knowNBC's guy Rory McElroy did not and that
(01:57):
it was just fantastic stuff down thestretch. To mean, I sounded like
Dan Hicks, great stuff, fantasticstuff. The broadcast. You know,
I have all those kinds of issueswith the broadcast when it comes to NBC.
But I'll tell you Wyndham Clark, you know, second PGA tour win.
He goes a final round of seventyand you're thinking that sounds like a
US Open, you know, justmaking par you know, on the final
(02:20):
day. I mean, it's notlike he, you know, he was
able to shoot sixty five or likeRick. Tommy Fleetwood was sixty three on
Sunday and made a run. Butthe shots that he made on six,
the short par four where he droveit into the into the thick stuff by
the green and he makes a fantasticpitch and led to birdie there. He
doesn't incredible job to save bogie onthe par five eighth haul after he hit
(02:42):
his second shot into that baranka makingbogie there was enormous. Then a great
pitch on eleven that led to apar. The fairway medal on fourteen was
a shot to me, if hegoes on and wins fifteen more tournaments,
that is gonna be something you're gonnaremember in golf forever. A two hundred
and eight eighty two yards shot.I think it was a three would,
maybe a five would. I don'tknow what it was, but it was
(03:05):
incredible and he makes birdie there.Rory makes bogey with a wedge a sand
wedge and missed the green. Okay, I cannot say that enough because Paul
Asian will never I mean they didn'tsay it. They were just one day.
They were still trying to figure outlooking at their notes, how can
you make Birdie coming in can stillwin? It was unbelievable, So props
(03:27):
to Windham Clark. I thought itwas an amazing week And if I ever
get the chance to play that golfcourse, man, I am not turning
it down. Yeah no, Danielle, just like we said, long shot
can't win this tournament, right, unbelievable, unbelievable. What were your takeaways
from the weekend? Well, firstof all, we can have West Coast
tournaments all year long. That cool. Oh it's so great. The couch
(03:53):
with my dog just watching golf,it was. It was tremendous um But
yeah, I mean kind of echoingthe same sediment as as Harry there.
Just it was pretty cool just watchingClark come down. U. I didn't
think it lacked excitement. Just likeTwitter, the entire golf community was kind
of saying like, oh, thisis underwhelming. LACC is the only fans
(04:15):
that are allowed. And at oneor two times I looked and I was
like, wow, there really aren'tany fans, But it really was just
like the angle of the camera andthen they come in from another view and
then you see, okay, it'spacked. Or if you saw like the
Instagram, like simply search us openand see the thousands and thousands of people
that were there. Harry had tocorrect that. Dave Portnoy on Twitter.
I saw that it was nice workout of you. I love and know
(04:39):
nothing about golf and try to takeshots at things like calm down, give
us some context, would you say? Well, he was annoyed that there
were so few fans allowed. Hesaid, it was absolutely disgusting. The
lack of tickets. Okay, well, first of all, there were apparently
twenty three thousand tickets were sold, but only or if nine thousand and of
(05:00):
them went to the general public,in other words, the general admission people
like you and me going in thereand drinking a couple of beers and getting
excited when people make great shots andmake a noise. There wasn't a lot
of that. There wasn't hardly anyof that, to be honest. Fourteen
thousand of those tickets were in ahospitality area where you got to pay extra
to be in those tents and allthose nice areas there. So it was
(05:20):
a corporate us open, there's nodoubt about it. But that property is
so strange. It's hard to getto certain areas. There's a lot of
bottlenecks where people they don't want peoplein certain areas. You can't get back
to the Playboy Mansion corner because theydon't want you back there in that corner.
I believe me. We tried. You try, yeah, and exactly,
(05:41):
and unfortunately for David Portnoy, that'swhere Ricky made his seventy two foot
put on the thirteenth green, wherehardly anybody can get back to. So
that's why there wasn't a huge uproar, and I just had to set him
straight because he didn't know what he'stalking about. I love it, but
that's a great point area. Alot of people are, you know,
they just sit on the couch andthey're wife and golf and many of them
probably haven't been out to a tournament. You don't know the layout of the
(06:03):
course, or you can't get tosomething, or if you're following a group,
you're gonna say, okay, i'llstay back here on the tea,
watch them tea off and then catchthem coming back down, yeah, or
go grab a beer or something likethat. And sometimes they don't. They
don't allow you to just get tocertain certain spots on the course. So
yeah, I like that, welldone there. Yeah. So you know
(06:24):
you have Wyndham Clark, who hedidn't finish better than t seventy five and
six previous majors. But it wasa different guy out there, right,
the club twirl of all club twirls. Right. He had swagger and that's
what you need. Like we talkabout it right when we had different people
on whether it's Eric Cole right talkingabout knowing how to win, right,
and some guys like sometimes you seeRory right now, it looks like he's
(06:45):
trying not to lose, yeah, right, he doesn't have that confidence of
like I'm gonna stick this wedge, like you could see it in their faces
sometimes, and you know, WindhamClark looked like a killer. Now.
I don't know personally if Wyndham Clarkis going to roll off some wins.
He seems like an emotional guy andsometimes there's highs and lows and and you
know, I hope he sticks withit because he seems like a great dude.
But um, you know, theone hundred and twenty third US Open
(07:08):
to me showed up. You know, it gave us some controversy to talk
about, which is fine. Butyou know, stick in with Rory for
a second, Harry, Do youthink he will win another major? Do
you think he has a headspace inthe putting to do so? No,
I do. I think he's eventuallygoing to because he keeps putting himself in
situations. You know, he gotrun down at the Open Championship last year
by cam Smith. Nobody thought thatwas going to happen. It did everybody
(07:31):
on you know, NBC, andI think most of the people that cover
golf thought that he was going torun away and just hide from Wyndham Clark,
and Wyndham Clark would eventually realize thathe's Wyndham Clark. And I've only
won one golf tournament and I'm notready for this. But that didn't happen.
But you you talk about Rory,Rory plays with the weight of expectation
and it's it destroys him in thesemoments. I think he's eventually going to
(07:56):
break through and win a major, and he probably win a couple more.
I don't hate Rory McElroy. Ihate the way he's covered and because they
try to make him sound like he'sTiger Woods and let's let's just relax here.
Rory. Rory plays with expectation. That's why that wedge shot came up
where it did. I mean, you know anybody else that's that good puts
(08:18):
that on the green and has aputt for Birdie, it doesn't happen.
He's got to find a way tobreak through there, but I think he
will eventually. Maybe it'll happen athoy Lake where he won a couple of
years ago. Who knows. Yeah, I mean that would be that would
be a good spot for him.Danielle, your boy Scheffler. He's got
three straight top threes, five straighttop five, seventeen top twelves. I
(08:39):
mean he's there every single weekend andthree week I mean just making a run
every single week. And it probablywas a good thing that our DraftKings fantasy
was locked out before I was ableto get into it. I saw a
bunch of people on Twitter too, like, hey, mouse, open it
up. I'm trying to get in. You're like even d gotten blocked out
because I probably would have had andI would have had Chef up there,
(09:01):
um, but I don't know thatI would have had Wyndham up there.
Yeah no, yah, yeah yeah. He finished there at Birdie on Saturday
and all of a sudden thrust himselfback into the tournament. You're thinking,
like, well, this is gonnabe one of those weeks where he finishes
one or two under par and he'snot really a factor boom were not at
all that putter. If he canget that putter, he heating up a
(09:24):
little bit. You know, it'severy single tournament. Well, maybe he
needs to go get Wyndham Clark andRicky Fowler's putter that I heard enough about
that freaking putter. I mean,is it the Jailbird or something like Yeah,
And actually Ricky Romano, Ricky's caddy, was the one who played with
it first. And Ricky saw itand liked it and ordered it from Odyssey.
(09:46):
It's like a twenty sixteen model Odysseyjailbird. And he puts that wacky
fat grip on it and a certainhuge stronger shaft, and then he puts
a ton of lead tape on thebottom of it. The bottom is entirely
encased lead tape so heavy. He'splaying with that, yes, and then
Wyndham Clark sees it and he isplaying with it and it's like, you
(10:07):
can't buy it right now, tryand order it's you can't that one.
He people said, like, I'mgoing to every single like secondhand thrift store
looking forward. Do you have thejailbird or going to like the what is
it like Edwin Watts or something, and he used section and it's like,
where is that jailbird? But hesaid he said he called his rapp and
he's like the Odyssey Rapp and he'slike, I want to putter Like Ricky.
She's like, okay, what specs. He goes the exact same,
(10:30):
and then he said. When it'sall Ricky m on the practice screen,
he was like, oh, He'slike, wait, did you cut down
your putter a little bit? Hegoes, yeah I did. He go,
oh, I might have to cutmine down to you. And then
then being paired together. It's prettyfunny. It really was, And Ricky
made twenty three birdies. That's aUS Open record. Ricky was the story
all weekend until the last couple ofminutes. Yeah, I wanted him to
(10:50):
win. But when he saw himmiss that pot on eighteen on Saturday night,
which is another issue I have. Those guys should not have been finishing
their round in the ark. It'shard to read Putts in the dark,
and he missed it kind of.I think he pushed it from about three
and a half four feet and thatyou could just see everything sort of deflated
out of him. That was ahuge miss. And then he went on
(11:11):
to bogie three I think of thefirst seven holes on Sunday, and he
was out. I wanted him towin so badly. That's the thing.
I think America wanted Rickado win andlike you said, NPC wanted Rory to
win. But you know, Harry, you said putting in the dark coming
in like that. Facts, Wedid a story. I think I might
(11:33):
have posted it as a reel onhis Instagram. He came up to eighteen
and he showed because he was like, He's sitting in the booth and he's
like, what's going on? Like, how how are they going? Missing?
Right? Missing? Left? Nobody'sheading this sixty yard wide fairway.
He's like, what's happening? Andthen he went down, stood up on
the on the tea box and showedthe sun is setting right in your face.
You can't see anything and you're justlike glaring with sun is just shining
(11:56):
in your face. So there's acouple disadvantages. But you know, that
was one of the takes that alot of people say on Live we all
start at the same time and endat the same time. It's you get
a late start, you get anearly start. That's just what happens on
the tour. You have to it'sa luck of the drawing. Guess.
Yeah, it props to facts. And though I thought he was brilliant,
he was actually pointing out the greatplay of Wyndham Clark as the Sunday was,
(12:18):
you know, transpiring, So propsto him. And the funny part
is he has more of a connectionto Rory than anything, yase he helped
him with his fudding and he didn'tsound as biased as some of the other
guys. Always everything he would sendme, I was like, wait,
how is this going to be perceivedby them? Butt like, like is
this going to be too Rory esque? And I posed this can I not?
But I'm glad to hear that. The The overall consensus is that he's
(12:39):
pretty neutral. Yeah. And youknow Ricky Fowler, as we said,
was the story throughout the weekend. You know a lot of people don't really
you know, he was so upfor when he was so young, right,
and it had such a lull thatpeople really didn't don't really know much
about him. It this one otherthan the commercials that he does. Right,
But when you see some of thestuff that he does, and you
(13:00):
could tell it's not his cameraman takingthese pictures and videos, right, it's
the public. He's signed an autographsafter every single round. He's making sure
he comes back out, which Iknow most of the guys do, right,
give balls to the people that walkwith them and all that stuff.
But like he just seems to doit in a way that like he's under
the radar and just makes him someonethat you you know, you want to
see come back and having great, you know, great rest of his career.
(13:20):
Yeah, and he also comes outthere and congratulates the winner. He's
always one of those greats. Youknow, he's Pat Windham Clark on the
back. He gave a Windham hugand he goes, if your mom was
here, she'd be proud of you, and then when he saw them posts
interviews and scoring and everything, he'slike, how does that feel? You
know? Holding that now It's like, oh, like that's gotta hurt to
see. Hellow Cowboy. He washappy for Cowboy. You know, those
(13:41):
guys seem tight. But I mean, listen, And that's what trives me
crazy about the golf media sometimes.Right, the story with about when his
mom was was you know, tragic, but but motivating and tremendous in the
way that he handled it. Butevery single person now that they know,
it's the easy emotional esque. Iknow. So you have like ozos that
have no business answer asking the question, asking him over and over and over
(14:03):
again. Like at some point yougotta be like guys like I answered this
a million times. They just letthe storyline be the golf. It doesn't
have to be. We know abouthis mom, we know about his jam,
you know what I mean. It'sit's every single thing, and God
forbid. You know many of thegolfers who's had drug or alcohol addictions,
that's always the storyline a kid,you know, it's always like perseverance came
back and you know their mom diedor this happened. It's like stop.
(14:28):
Like, add that to the ChrisKirk overcoming, you know, the alcoholism
and the Scott Stallings losing one hundredpounds or whatever. It was changing,
but it's gonna be the same thing. Yeah. Then again, I'd like
to hear about Wyndham's dad. Ineed maybe I need to do some research
on what happened with you know,he was his father around, Like who
is he? You know? Yeah? Yeah, he was a it was
(14:48):
a tennis pro right, yeah, yeah that they snuck that in in between
stories about the poor mother, right, Like it's yeah, it just just
gets beat. But you know,if this was on CBS and Nance was
doing that that final hole, andafter Wyndham Clark won and was walking and
getting hugged by all these people,Nance would have known half of those people's
(15:11):
names and would have been saying, there's his agent, so and so,
but you know, there's his mother. You know, he would have done
it. He would have had somebodydo all that research. That just proves
again to me that NBC didn't thinkthere was any chance in hell that Wyndham
Clark was gonna win because they wereall ready for the fifty rory bullet points.
Oh yeah, nothing well, herewe go. Who is Randall Clark?
(15:31):
Wyndham's Father's full name is Robert RandallClark goes by Randall. Since twenty
twenty has worked as a co founderof a storage company, but was once
a professional tennis player, So yougot that brief career in the sport,
came to it end due to aninjury, but private equity and investment firms.
So there we go. There go. Yeah, Father's Day and it
(15:54):
was like, nope, let's justtalk about right, Yeah, on Father's
Day, how about you know, you talk about the ups and downs of
the game of golf. Look atJT shoots a second round eighty one,
finishes one hundred and fifty third inthe field. What's going on? Har
Do you see any like he gotbones on the bag? You thought this
guy was just gonna run And it'sjust sometimes things are off a little bit.
(16:15):
Yeah, I don't know what itis. I mean I wish I
did know, but I I tweeted, you know, maybe Tiger Wood should
stop taking his calls for a while, because this is really kind of getting
him back. I mean, he'stoo good, you know, to be
this bad. I mean, weneed JT in these final couple of groups
on Sunday. I think he's funwhen he's playing great golf. He's great
(16:36):
to watch and the sport needs himback. I don't know what it is.
You know, you'd think with bonesand you know all these coaches Dad's
as coach, that they'd be ableto figure this out. But they better
do it quick because the season, you know, we're running out of weeks.
The same thing, right we talkedabout Windham Clark, who played with
swagger, who twirls the club whenJT's on. That's what you see out
of him, the club, twirling, the strife, the ball, and
(16:56):
there's just no confidence right now inhis game. When you're not playing well,
it's hard to exude that. Butum, you feel for a guy
like that. His quote, hegoes because he missed the US opening cut
by twelve shots at LACC, buthe goes. I go when the British
Open. Nobody even remembers I missedthe cut by a zillion, But that's
true. Some would say it's true. Twitter and Instagram or ripped him.
(17:19):
They're like, we'll still remember, will remind you, Yeah, Internet,
and you have him posting him atHomo watching the final round Homer prediction,
which Homer predicted it? Yeah, and the winner they're drinking rose, They're
like, should we go live?I'm glad I bet Max Homa like six
months ago. Yeah, me too. Great insights out, Yeah me too.
And he missed the cut, didn'tyou guys say that it was the
(17:41):
same We were so smart, LikeI'm taking him now literally the same odds
the week and people were ripping himfor actually staying on the property, coming
back and hitting balls on like Saturdayand Sunday on the range, Like it
was almost like he was trying toseek attention, And it's like, how
dare you work in practice facility thathe's got to go to another facility?
(18:02):
I mean, come on, yeah, at a place that just beat you
up, you want to get backthere and like, you know, learn
from it a little bit, right, Yeah, I believable, but just
a great, a great US Openoverall. Any other takeaways from from US
Open to jump out Boston ecro aboutour guy and I love I was watching
the leaderboard like heading into the endbecause like the T like you know,
(18:23):
T eighteen nine and I'm like, give him a top ten, give him
a top ten. And it workedout. Yeah, you know, I
noticed a bunch of the guys youknow, coming out on you know,
it's it's funny they don't say iton Thursday or Friday, but coming around
on Saturday they you start to hearthe grumblings about I don't like this golf
course like br Erica. You know, I was saying that he had kind
of a mediocre week. I know, he finished one under and tied for
(18:45):
seventeenth, but that's not what weexpect at a Brooks Kapka. Apparently he
didn't like it. I heard Hovlandgrumbling about it. Mats Fitzpatrick was on
record as saying that he didn't likethe golf course. So you know,
I love hearing that stuff because him. If everybody thinks I'm the only one
that doesn't like golf course, Ifind I think I find Fitzpatrick to be
(19:06):
a bit whiny at times. Yes, yeah, I don't know, just
a nice way to play it.Feel like I feel like he complains a
lot. I don't know. Yeah, Austin Austin Eckert, and I'm taking
a look at him for the travelers. I'll give you a little, a
little advanced scouting on that for sure, but all right, let's let's take
a quick break. We will beright back, all right, and welcome
(19:27):
back, and Harry. You knowwe're gonna talk about the golf outing a
little bit, but our great partner, mal Chevy is involved, and uh,
you have something to say about malChevy, do you not. Yeah,
we love having them be a bigpart of our outing and of course
the Swinging Ding It podcast because foreight years in a row now, mals
Chevrolet has been South Jersey's number oneChevy dealer. And it could be because
(19:47):
they treat their customers just right. That's why mal Chevy was voted top one
hundred dealer in the country for customersatisfaction. But I still think it's because
of their motto we sell Chevies forless. Find You're a perfect drive at
Maul Chevrolet is at Maul Chevrolet onHaddonfield Road in Cherry Hill, right across
from the Cherry Hill Mall, oronline at mal Chevy dot com. Find
(20:08):
your perfect drive at Maul Chevrolet malChevy dot com. Parr you played into
pretty cool outings, it seems thisweek. You know, I have had
the Green lay member guest, whichI'll get into, but talk about your
experience. Yeah, on Monday,I played with our buddy Joe Clark in
an outing to benefit Dimension Alzheimer's researchcalled the Candlewick Open It it's part of
(20:32):
his EBOD foundation. And were overat broad Run, which used to be
Tattersall back when it was private andit opened in suburban Westchester. It's now
broad Run for many years. Butman, the layout is fantastic. It's
always been fantastic. Sometimes I've playedit where it wasn't in the greatest shape.
It was in really good shape.Just a wonderful day and we actually
(20:55):
made a run. We finished Tthree. We were ten under, the
winner was twelve under and I madea bunch of birdie putts with that makefield
putter. And the highlight of theday was my Wyndham Clark shot on the
par five fifteenth from two thirty sevenout. I've hit a three wood to
seven feet when we made eagle. So we had a good day. We
had a lot of fun. Raised, you know, a cup seven eight
(21:17):
thousand dollars for for Dimension Alzheimer's research, and look forward to doing it again
anytime. You could spend the anafternoon with Joe Clark on a golf course.
It's a good day, Danielle.I have some bad news. Harry.
Harry Mays is getting into practice roundat the Legacy Club this week.
No, yea, yeah, yeahyeah. I was just talking with Gave
yesterday. I'm like, we gottaget our tickets. Now, We're gonna
(21:38):
do like a whole little Philly weekendout of it. Um, but maybe
I should fly down earlier and getanother ripping before Are you too? Are
you too playing together? Or inthe outing? I know I'm playing with
Moose today. Oh yeah, Noin in the outing. Oh I'm not
sure yet. We haven't. Wehaven't broken out are foursome yet, so
(22:00):
let's waiting to see who else iscoming. Um. But yeah, yeah,
I got to be separate, sothen we have which of the three
of us prevail. Okay, butI want to hear about this Green Valley
week because I heard you battled hard. It's it's it's my favorite, you
know, golf weekend for me,of the year, that they do it
incredibly well. Coop is you know, he's been a guest on this show.
(22:22):
Him and his entire staff over there, Jackie Bird is, all the
all the folks, they just runan incredible tournament. The amount of food
that they put out is just ridiculous, Like you have to pace yourself or
you'll be dead. But yeah,Greenie and I jumped out on fire want
some money in the first round becausewe put up seven points. We're like,
oh, this is our year, and then tied the next one loss.
You know, it just the wheelstarted to come off. Well,
the weather probably interrupted your mojo, right, talk about that, I mean,
(22:45):
and talk about the way that thatthat staff handled that, right.
I mean, you have a torrentialrain, thunderstorm, lightning. Everyone has
to clear the course. So theykept us in and you're supposed to play
two rounds, lunch and then athird round. So we just you know,
moved the lunch up. It reallydidn't affect a day that much.
But you know, after about anhour of it raining, you're like and
(23:06):
you're looking at the eighteenth green andit's completely underwater and the putting green's gone.
You're like, I don't think we'regetting back out there today. And
you know, Coop comes around,He's like, yeah, we're gonna head
out around like one third year. You're looking at You're like how And within
an hour man as soon as therain stopped. That course, there may
have been one puddle that we thatthat we ran into the entire rest of
the day. It was. Itwas tremendous, it really was. But
(23:29):
we want some money because you know, you bet these things, you have
to bet some teams, and webet our boys Nate and Johnny and they
won in the playoff, which waswhich was incredible. But our boy Factor
had Jake Elliotts as his guest, which you know, it sounds great like,
hey, I'm gonna have a plustwo as my guest, but in
these outings is so tough because youhave to give up strokes. So he
would have had a birdie every singlehole basically to give him a chance,
(23:51):
which is so hard to you know, to ask of someone. But um,
really nice guy will be coming onthe program soon. Great meeting him,
great golfer, got this se hitsome balls and stuff. But just
a tremendous event. Overall. Wehad Coop's son on the on they were
on our competitors bag. Oh yeah, got to see me as bad as
I was playing drain like this crazyput um. He was like where did
(24:12):
that come from? Like I haveno idea and but yeah, nice young
man caddying over there. So justall around great, great weekend. That's
awesome, great to hear. Yeah, so there was a meeting yesterday,
but nothing really came out of it, right, more stuff about Live,
more questions about the p i Fframework deal, but it seems to be
still like no one knows what thehell's going on. Does anyone know what's
(24:33):
happening with this thing? I don'tsee any details. No, I'm clueless.
I have no no idea how they'regoing to merge this whole thing.
And you know, you know,um, you know what tournaments. Is
there going to be a live schedulenext year? Is it going to be
like a PGA schedule and to liveand the guys can go back and forth
and do whatever. I have noidea. I mean, I mean,
I'm hoping, you know, bysometime in the fall that we have this
(24:56):
figured out. Yeah, And despitecapped us saying we'll see you next week
at the Travelers, that's not goingto happen. I like, I would
just like to stir the pottle atthat, you know, keep the media
and everybody else kind of on theirtoes. But you know, this merger
between the PGA Tour and you know, the Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.
(25:17):
We still don't know anything, soit's almost like people are waiting for something
to come out. But you know, with Jay Monahan being sick and everything
else happening, it's we're just kindof waiting what's gonna go on, what's
gonna happen, where's the future goingto be? Well, I know you
guys read the Tom Watson letter andits entirety. I could, I only
caught the last page of it.But what was your sense of the Venerable
(25:41):
Tom Watson's reaction? I mean,kind of, he's just like a he's
a patriot and obviously a lot ofpeople with the nine to eleven affiliations,
you know, say like they Hewas just saying, as a I can't
I don't have the letter up infront of me, but essentially as like
a twenty plus year member of thePGA Tour, and that the fact that
they have like a player's advisory boardand nobody was consulted, and he thinks
(26:06):
like it kind of was just doneimproperly. And this was an open letter
to Jay for anybody who's hasn't readit. But essentially saying like they wish
he wishes that they had a sayin it. You know, he wants
to feel comfortable and proud playing onthe PGA Tour and be able to look
families from nine to eleven in theface comfortably and say, yes, you
(26:26):
know, this is the tour thatI play on. But he also acknowledged
that the US, you know, does business with Saudi Arabia as well,
and that there's so many different entitiesand businesses in the world that do business
with Saudi Arabia and that we're kindof only just looking at the PGA tour
as doing business with them. Sothat was kind of a you know,
short version of it. Moves they'remore conduct you want to add to it,
(26:48):
No, I mean that was thatwas That was a great summary of
that. I mean, that's exactlywhat the sentiment was still like to him,
Questions, more questions and answers, right, which is what everyone's saying.
But you know, it's funny becauseit's like, you know, they
say, Norman said business as usual, and here you see the majestics.
Right. The team with Ian Poulterand Lee Westwood announced that they have a
sponsor with the with the you know, a new name on their team jerseys
(27:10):
that Okay ex Official, which isa crypto exchange that sponsors actually a lot
of other sports teams. They're involvedwith Man City and McLaren in F one,
So that team out element of it, which we know that you know,
his excellency, his eminency what dowe call him? We know that
I apologize, Sarah, please pleasedon't come at me. Um. You
(27:32):
know that team part is what hewants to see stay. And now you
see will corporate sponsors since this mergerkind of like, okay, well,
now maybe DJ came to us andwe sponsored him, he wants to sponsor
his team now we feel a littlebit more comfortable doing so. So I
think you're going to see a littlebit of a surge of corporate dollars into
the live side. That's going tobolster that a little bit. And I
want to ask you guys too,how are you feeling, you know,
about all of us in the beginning. You know, I feel like for
(27:56):
the most part, that three ofus were all you know, we were
the rorries. We were loyal tothe BGA tour and we were like,
we're not buying in to live likewe understood, yes, like if all
of us were offered X amount moremoney than we're making at our current job,
and we definitely would look at it. But with all these changes,
(28:17):
what are you guys thinking, whatare your thoughts currently? Well, I
just hope one of the changes,if they're going to continue with Live,
is that they go to seventy twoholes. I mean, I've been saying
that since day one, so I'mgoing to stick by that. But I'm
interested. I'm gonna go. I'myou know, Me and a couple of
guys are planning on running up toBedminster in August when they come to that
course for one of their events. They still went to the website, it
(28:38):
still doesn't have the link to buytickets for it, which I find kind
of strange because every event between nowand then you can purchase tickets, like
Greenbrier they're going to prior to that, and a couple of other places overseas,
but still there's still no ticket linkfor that. So I don't know
if there's something to that, butwe're planning on going just to check.
(28:59):
I think I think they're still,you know, finding their legs in a
way. I have some people thatwent to the tournament in DC and they
said, like late day one, they were out of everything, like couldn't
buy a beer, couldn't buy itMRT, Like, I don't know if
they just didn't anticipate the crowds thatwere going to come, or just you
know, don't have the infrastructure toreally you know, run it like a
(29:19):
PGA Tour event yet. But theysaid it was kind of a little bit,
a little bit disheveled. It feltlike it didn't it didn't feel like
a full, true professional golf event. And that's where the confusion comes in
for me, is that, youknow, the media and maybe even the
tour in an element, are makingit as if live with such a threat,
but then we hear all these otherthings. They don't have the fans,
(29:41):
you know, nobody's they're not gettingviews when it's being streamed on TV.
So it's like it's a threat. But is it like how because everything
else doesn't really line up for me? Yeah, And the same thing,
like I just you know, Idon't I don't not against it. I'm
not against guys making the money.I love, I like some of the
guys over there. I just ithasn't drawn me into one to sit down
and watch it and whether it's theformat, whether it's the way they cover
(30:03):
it. Um, you know,I actually love Harlow White, who's the
voice from Ted Lasso, who's thevoice, but like he's he wasn't really
a golf guy. He's a greatvoice. But the way that they just
look at the crowds, look atall those people. They overdo it.
Yea, Yeah, which I getit right there. They're just starting out
and they kind of have to.But yeah, we'll see where this goes.
Well, one more thing on this, Are you guys more excited to
(30:26):
be watching these major events where thesewhere every player is allowed? Yeahs to
Yeah? Absolutely, And I thinkthat's their main point. I can't wait
to see Cam Smith defend in acouple of weeks at Holy Lake. Man,
he had Graves right there. Healways a great week man. Yeah.
Talk about a guy that plays withswagger. I mean that's he looks
like he looks like he wants togo out and win every time, right,
(30:47):
And some guys look like they're goingout trying not to lose, but
not him. So we go toCromwell, Connecticut, guys for the Travelers
Championship TPC River Highlands. It's funny, it's like one of my first memories
watching golf, and I don't know, while like my grandfather and my uncle
used to watch it all the time, and my uncle used to work for
Travelers Insurance, so there was alwayslike those logos, those umbrellas. I've
(31:07):
correlated to seeing you know what Isaw on TV and watching a couple of
minutes of it with them. Sogreat tournament and for the first year and
since nineteen eighty four, but thisis the first time it's an elevated event
where I guess what the winner thisweek is going to walk away at the
same check that Windham Clark did lastweek. Incredible and it's also the last
elevated event of the season, right, yeah, until until we get to
the playoffs where the money gets bigagain. But yeah, you're right,
(31:32):
this is a great tournament. Iagree with you, Moose. I've always
enjoyed watching I think this golf courselooks like a fun place to play.
It's a Peak Die design, butBobby Weed came in and he was Pete
Die protege and did some work onit years later, and you know Bobby
Weed, he designed the grove twentythree for Michael Jordan. He's done Glenn
Mills here locally one of the bestpublic golf courses you'll ever play, uh
(31:56):
TPC Summerland, the Ponovedrac Clubs, which I've had the experience of playing those
two great ones, and White Manorhere locally is a Bobby Weed. So
I enjoy this guy's designs. Ithink the finish sets up for just drama
because you've got a par five anda par a drivable par four with water,
um, you know, in playthen you've got to you know,
a tough par three, a toughpar four seventeen with water and play the
(32:20):
end. There's gonna be some carwrecks and there's gonna be some brilliant shots,
so it'll be high drama. Ohyeah, no doubt about it.
Yeah, like you said, itis a short, a short par seventy
right, sixty one hundred, there'snineteen are made. Yeah, only two
par five's and you have but thepoa greens, which is more of a
West Coast thing. So take alook at some of the guys who put
(32:42):
really well on that, um,you know, especially a guy like can't
lay right with five consecutive top fifteens. Yeah, what's funny, So in
this tourna mes five consecutive top fifteenswhile never finishing inside the top ten.
Now, cz he's always in thatlow teen range. But what well the
cavo on the bag. You know, we'll see if there's something, there's
some changes to his Xander's defending andhe's a West Coast guy too, that's
(33:05):
used to the Poeanna Greens. Ohyeah, no doubt about. Yeah,
that brilliant Thursday and then kind offaded from view at the US Open.
But he'll probably play really well thisweek. Yeah. Great, I mean
listen to great eight of the eightof the top ten. Great field,
I mean being being an elevated event. You always expect some sort of letdown
after a major, but um,you don't really see it going into this.
I mean, it's it's an areapart of the country that these guys
(33:28):
seem to enjoy going to and thriveplaying in. You see Xander visiting ESPN
yesterday, so um, you know, definitely looks like it's gonna gonna shape
out to be a great tournament thisweekend. Was he at least on with
Scott van Pelt, somebody that knowsa lot about it. I'm not sure.
I just saw him hitting some putts, but it hadn't he had to
be I know, Greeney would wantto snuggle up to him. Oh yeah,
(33:57):
Oh man, Danielle, what areyou thinking about this weekend? Honestly,
I haven't. I haven't been there. Um, but you know,
I'm Brad has a bet um withsomebody on Instagram. We're trying to get
them through a hundred k So Iwas looking at the course. I know
that it looks like it's going toset up um for something. You know,
(34:17):
it's a pretty long course. SoI was asking Brad. I was
like, Okay, these are thetopics I want you to cover. I
asked him. I said, hey, can you go to the putting green
and you know, let's let's kindof hone in on your putting skills and
talk to some of the players outthere, ask them what they're putting with,
you know, maybe ask them theyhit a few putting strokes. So
on that topic. Um, DennyMcCarthy, So in the last four or
(34:42):
last like four or five weeks,I mean not huge, outing are huge,
great showing at the US Open, but um, you know, coming
off of his playoff loss and finishinga second there. I just I think
Denny is due. I think he'sgoing to continue to play well. Um
so I I have my eye onhim. And if we're doing a Draft
(35:02):
Kings fantasy this week, he's definitelygoing to be in there, along with
of Coy of course my boy chef, and probably going to maybe top ten
Austin as well. I like it. I like it, well, Harriet,
let's see the line as we do. Because you know from Tita Green,
the best place to go to getall the action happening on the links
(35:22):

talked about some of the guys thatwe like. Can't lay it is a
(35:43):
play here for sure, very shortodds on him, though, You're going
to have to, you know, lay out to get him so it might
be a day two, but he'sactually not the top guy. So Scheffler
is still at plus six to fifty. Patrick can't lay at plus twelve hundred.
So keep an eye see how thesethings shake out, and make sure
you download the Draftking sports Book appnow. Use promo code ding and boost
your odds during this week's weekend's tournament. That's code ding d I n G

But what about Alaska? Yeah? What happens here? Oh oh man,
Yeah, we do. We dowhat our sponsors tell us to do.
You know, it's right and welove. Oh that's right. So for
me, I'll jump in first,Harry, and then take a look.
So a couple guys jump out tome early favorites in my mind to just
take the win. Harris English,he has a T eight in the US
(37:13):
Open, sixty five hundred. Ido not mind that number at all.
How about you have Brian Harmon, who was a T five and twenty one
and a T six and eighteen herefour top tens at plus six thousand,
a pretty decent number. We talkedabout Austin Ekrote. I like him in
the top five with that number atplus eighteen hundred. And Keegan Bradley who
has a T two here in nineteenat eight here in seventeen at nine thousand,
(37:37):
so really good odds on him.Wow, I am I am off
the Brian Harmon, Trent He's actuallyon my you know what list? Right,
I don't like watching him for otherreasons, but anyway, I'm with
you on Harris English. I jumpedon plus sixty five hundred to win and
also plus two forty for a toptwenty to continue his good play from last
week. He's also won here inthe past. Tommy Fleetwood, Yeah,
(37:59):
I'm going to take him in atop ten at plus two eighty. Maybe
this is the week that he finallybreaks through. You know, if you
can carry the momentum from Sunday inLA, that would that would quite you
know, be quite the story.I'm gonna take Cam Young minus one twenty
in a matchup over JT. Ijust don't think this is the week JT
figures it out. Patrick Cantley,I'm taking him minus one thirty over our
(38:21):
pal Rory McElroy. And I'm gonnago with Austin Eckrote plus one fifty and
a top thirty and Ludvig Aberg whatbecoming one of my favorite young players plus
one twenty five and a top fortyfor the kid from Texas Tech and Sweden.
Wow, I like it. AustinMan, he's hanging around road and
(38:43):
like we say, you come onthe pod. Look, I think that's
what Danny's waiting for. Danny's waitingto be on the pod before he gets
his win. We gotta get himon. But let's what about Eric Cole
as well? Right in his wildsuccess this season as well, I had
a top forty last week, Ihad him top thirty, but he did
finish T thirty nine, I think, And what are his thoughts this week?
I think I'm not sure? GoodDenny, no Eric Cole? Oh
(39:06):
ericol, let me see no knowing? Oh here you go? Oh wow?
Plus twelve? Yeah, one fiftySo he's he's fifteen thousand if you
look at it the way. Wow. Yeah, I mean, yeah,
that's that's might. Why not?Why not? No doubt? Um,
So we'll be We'll be back nextweek. We're going to do a full
kind of breakdown a preview of ourgolf outing coming up. There's there's been
(39:29):
more added to it. Um,It's just I don't know how much work
can be added to it. Butit's going to be an we talked about
it. We have three long drivequalifiers going into a long drive playoff.
We have multiple contests after the outing. Um. But the cool thing is
everyone will just be hanging out onthe patio and being able to watch all
of these things happening in front ofthem. If you're not participating in it,
(39:52):
so um really looking forward to it. And uh yeah, I mean
just just some great sponsors that climbedin benefiting the Magical Meal of Foundation,
obviously the latest being Tito's Vodka whostepped up and they're going to have a
great setup there out there for us. So looking forward to it, Harry,
looking forward to playing the little golfwith you and John Clark this week,
and Danielle, we'll get you outto the Legacy Club for a practice
(40:12):
round beforehand. I can't wait. All right, guys, we'll be back
next week. Take care, yeah, but listen, swing it and dang it.
