(00:48):
Mall Chevrolet who are great sponsors ofour golf outing coming up. But today
we are joined by mister my PhillyGoff Joe Logan. If you play golf
in the area, if you knowanything about the game of golf in the
area, you know Joe. Ifyou've watched Inside Golf and teed off Joe
as a regular there, Joe,Welcome to swing it and thing it man,
appreciate it. Thanks good to behere. Thanks for inviting me.
Absolutely. Now Harry's a little tired. He was at Michael Rubin's white party

(01:11):
in the Hamptons this weekend. Buthe's trying to trying to get it together.
But that's okay. But Joe,talk to us a little bit about
I mean, you launched this inoh nine, but you know, you
have a pretty interesting career in thegame of golf. You've been doing a
long time, longer than us poacherswho just started getting into it have done.
Talk about that, but you know, just the genesis of going from

(01:34):
writing, you know, writing forthe Inquiry to kind of starting your own
thing, and what you saw atthat time as as where this was headed,
well, in two thousand and eightand two thousand and nine, the
Philadelphia Inquirer, where I worked, like a lot of big city newspapers,
was cutting back on his golf carpegchange had done because of Tiger Woods.

(01:55):
I had gone to a lot ofplaces, yeah, you know, a
lot of golf because he was biggerthan the game. But all of that
was coming kind of to an endas Tiger's career was winding down. But
newspapers just couldn't cover the game affordto the way they had and I left
at the end of two thousand andeight, and so did a lot.

(02:15):
I remember there's a story in GolfWorld that week that listed about eight or
nine golf writers that were all eitherleaving their papers or taking buyouts or that
sort of thing, and I wasone of them. And I knew that
golf still needed to be covered inPhiladelphia, and so I began. I
came up with an idea for awebsite. I decided that it's time to

(02:38):
get out of print. Print waslimping along at best, and the Internet
was surging, and so I wentout and came up with an idea and
sort of found a business partner whohad deeper pockets than I did. We
launched it in two thousand and nine, and it still around. I still

(02:59):
run it, still do it,UM, And you know, it's it's
it's good. I mean, itkeeps me in the game of golf.
Um. I still play it playedyesterday, I may play tomorrow. There's
a good chance of that, UM. And so it's it's uh. It's
enabled me to stay close to thegame and and follow the game and know

(03:21):
a lot of the golfers and andI'll keep doing it until I can't do
it anymore, I suppose. Andthey talk about you know, you've been
covering this game for for a longlong time, many decades, and you
know you saw the you know, the genesis basically of Tiger Woods and how
it exploded the game. Uh,you know, not only from you know,
a TV perspective, but you know, people wanting young people wanting to

(03:43):
get involved and playing golf. Thatbecause when I grew up, it was
you know, it was in theseventies and it was it just seemed like
your dad wearing plaid slacks and youknow, big collared shirts and it just
didn't seem like a whole lot offun. Well, once Tiger Woods got
involved, you know, and youknow it's like, man, this is
a cool sport. Talk about thatand seeing that sort of evolve, well,
you know, I know the mindsetyou're talking about your dad and plaid

(04:08):
pants. I actually started playing.I grew up in a small town in
North Carolina and my dad, whenI was about nine or ten years old,
joined the little nine whole country clubin town. Was nothing swanky or
exclusive about it. I knew thatwasn't a Northeast Philly accent by the way,
I just I just knew it.And I started going out and playing

(04:29):
golf with my father when I wasnine years old and very quickly got addicted
to the game. I didn't wearplaying shorts mostly, and my all my
buddies played, so it was notthe whole idea that no one plays golf
except rich people didn't occur to meuntil years later when I met people who
didn't play golf and like, oh, okay, but anyway, That's how

(04:53):
I started spending time with my dadand then my buddies, and then when
I started playing junior tournaments stuff aroundNorth Carolina, played high school golf and
little college golf, and have neverlooked. I've been playing sixty one years.
Wow. Wow, A long timeto play golf. I still don't
hit any better. Joe, playinggolf sixty one years, covering it for

(05:17):
several years, you have to havea really incredible golf story. Since this
is a Philly based podcast, giveus your greatest Philly golf story that you
have, well for me or forthe game. I would I would say
Philadelphia to me, what it's knownfor is just this bounty of wonderful,

(05:39):
wonderful golf courses. I mean,we have this embarrassment of riches. If
you look at golf digests top tencourses in the country, two of them
are within about twenty five minutes ofwhere I sit right now in the suburbs
of Philadelphia. Pine Valley, thenumber one by a mile, and everyone

(06:00):
agrees to that is just over intoSouth Jersey. But it's part of the
Philadelphia PGA Section and the Golf Associationof Philadelphia. It's very much a Philadelphia
course. And then Marion, youknow, number six, generally in ardmore
twenty minutes from here, which mostrecently hosted the twenty thirteen US Open.

(06:25):
And if there were questions about itbeing out of date or the game having
passed by, I think they answeredthat in spades, and they have two
more Opens coming. But if youtalk about the history of the game,
two of the great things that happenedin the game also happened at Marion,
within about one hundred yards of eachother. In nineteen thirty, Bobby Jones

(06:47):
one closed out in the Grand Slamby winning the nineteen thirty US Amateur on
the eleventh hole at Mary and that'sfamous. And then in nineteen fifty what
is probably the most iconic photo andall of golf, Ben Hogan hitting that
one iron into the eighteenth green atmaryon nineteen fifty US Open. Everyone knows

(07:08):
that picture, you know him inthe fairly high peskin shot it. It
was a freelance photographer on assignment andand every I mean that photo hangs in
every pro shop, everyone offers homejust about it. You know, it
was a great photo, great time. And what is the quote from that?
There's only two people that can hita one iron? Well, you
know, uh. Lee Trevino usedto say, if you're ever out on

(07:31):
a golf course and a storm kicksup, just hold a one iron over
you. Yeah, because not evenGod can hit a one iron, absolutely
one iron in the basement somewhere lockedaway where it's doing me no damage or
harm like a butter knife. Yeah. Yeah, so of curious to see
because obviously you still cover the game, but it's a little bit different when

(07:53):
you're covering it right for a fora major newspaper, right where you have
to have headlines. Have you thoughtabout, you know, if you were
still in that role and this livegolf whole thing broke, how how deeply
entrenched you would have to be andwhat you know, how you would kind
of cover that in a way tothe masses. Well, I'm following,
and now I'm not out there reportingit like I was. Yeah, but

(08:16):
you know, one of my oldgolf writer buddies is all over it,
and Alan Schipmunk who wrote the bookabout Nicholson, and as he and Michael
Bamberg have started and Matt Jenneau startedto the fire Pit Collective. I don't
know if you know that. Ohyeah, yeah, but they're all over
it. And uh I read mosteverything they have to say about it,

(08:37):
and I talked to you. Istill hang out. I mean, I
just had a reunion about a monthor so ago my old running mates h
Hank Gold from the New York Dailyto us and Ed Sherman from the Chicago
Tribune and Damon Hack who now onthe Golf Channel. We used to share
houses like the British Open in theUS Open and things like that, and
so we just got together a fewof us about a month or so agoing

(08:58):
North Carolina to play some golf andrelive old old times. Following Tiger and
Fill and the whole circus is likea circus moving from town to town in
some ways. Oh yeah, yeah, How how has covering the game of
golf changed, you know, throughyour your lifetime of it and beyond.
Well, one way that I thinkobviously, the media landscape has shifted.

(09:26):
Newspapers for the most part don't covergolfery much. It still some magazines and
and certainly websites and podcasts. Thewhole growth of podcasts is amazing to me.
Um. But to me, oneof the biggest things is something you
really don't think about usually most ofand that is that these days athletes,

(09:48):
golfers and others don't need the mediain ways they did at one time.
If they've got something to say, they they'll say it on Twitter because they
can say as they want without anysort of filter or anybody putting their own
spin on it. Enter Adam Scottinto the chat. He was the latest

(10:09):
to take a shot right just onhis own social media on Instagram. The
other players started tagging on and addingto it. Right. Yeah, that
Twitter is huge. That's where theconversation takes place now, and so the
media in many ways is left tointerpret or react to whatever they say,

(10:30):
I mean, and all these peopleare obviously very outspoken and a number of
articulate Tigers, articulate, phil Isarticulate. Rory Adam Scott was always thought
one of the best interviews out there. All of the Australians were smart and
good interviews. And he's right therespeaking of that real quick, just just
because you mentioned that when you coveredit, what were your thoughts of Greg

(10:52):
Norman when you were covering did yousee kind of that descent in him?
And always knew it was going tobe something coming. He's been famous for
this for all. Yeah. Yeah, A lot of people believe that the
whole idea of the Lives Tours isthis revenge, you know, from when
he back in the eighties suggested somethingvery similar to the uh, you know,
World Golf Championships, and the tourswatted it down and then came out

(11:16):
with the World Golf Championships. Andhe's been brooding ever since, looking for
a way to pay him back. And I guess Lives his revenge. He
found the purse, ye did,But I mean, he was I always
thought Greg to me, he wasalso a very very smart businessman, a

(11:37):
good interview, very articulate, guy. He's not as popular as some people
who are are, but he cannotignore he was number one in the world
for a long long time. Yeahright, Well, speaking of guys who
are are popular, Ricky Fowler gotback in the winner's circle this past weekend
after an absence of over four years. Why do you feel like everybody says

(12:00):
off is better when Ricky Fowler isrelevant or Ricky Fowler can you know shows
that he can win? Why doyou think that is well because of his
popularity. I mean you look, how many golfers can you think of that?
A lot of times I'll show onTV kids fans behind the ropes at
a golf tournament and invariably you're goingto see some kid in an orange hat

(12:20):
and you dressed up like Ricky Fowler. Well, they don't do that for
you know, most of these guysout there. So he strikes a chord.
He's young, he's hip, where'sfunky hats and has a cool look,
and he's popular among the other players. He's a very popular guy,
and he's just popular with the fans. So you want someone like that winning

(12:41):
to be a face of golf andthe tour rather than these guys who don't
exactly light up a room. Patrickcan't lay he's entered the chat. We'll
quickly move past that. And thenJoe, just on the topic of what
lights up golf and with all thecontroversy with Living PGA tour going on right

(13:01):
now, what do you think wouldbe something the tour can do to,
you know, kind of rise abovewhat's going on, or stay relevant or
make that room light up. Forlack of better words, I would say,
go back in a time machine andundo some of the stuff they've done.
Do you think having the final roundon live TV might help? Yeah?

(13:22):
Yeah, that could possibly help it. I was so frustrated. It's
a start. This whole thing hashappened so fast to me. The surprising
thing in some ways and all ofthis is how the tour had fair warning
this was coming, and they hada year to plan, and yet when

(13:43):
Live rolled out, it still feltlike the tour was in reaction mode that
they weren't they were reacting to anythingLive did that they really hadn't planned it
out. And then they began tothrow PfP money around, and you thought,
wow, you know, I hadno idea the tour was so vulnerable
to this kind of not attack, but you know, competitor they are.

(14:05):
And then they very quickly apparently wrotetoo many checks they could in cash and
then got themselves into a financial situation. But I've just been surprised at the
way the tour has been caught offbalance by all of this. And who
knows. I mean, this isnot a done deal yet. They've agreed
in principle to some things. Butthe government, the federal government is very

(14:28):
much looking at it. I meanon two fronts. One is the one
of the civic committees. They wantto look into Saudi Arabian and would it
have too much influence on an Americaninstitution. And that is before they even
get to the issue of antitrust partof the government, and that was in
play before this deal. And youknow now it's even more so because because

(14:52):
whatever competition it was is now beingrolled into one entity. And it's also
remember has been a tax ex emptinto that remains a question. And now
the commissioner, Jay Monahan is isout and I've seen nothing. He explains,
well, what kind of medical conditiondoes he have? But no,

(15:16):
no one seems to though, andshipmul my buddy, the fire pit collected
is not at all convinced that he'llbe back. Um so is he being
squeezed out? He who knows whathis medical condition is and is it something
he can recuperate from and come backright now. He's in a tough spot
because there are a lot of peoplewho are mad at him, very mad

(15:39):
at him, starting with Rory McElroy, who is not to be sneezed at.
It sounds like an NHL injury,Port Harry, a lower body injury.
Will not will not return right.Um So, it remains to be
seen whether this thing happens in theway that it has been Later and you
know, they're going Curiousness meeting. They're gonna have a Senate committee coming up.

(16:03):
Monahan's night going in. If peopleare going Jimmy Dunn, you have
you've seen that name thrown around.Don Is. He's the president of similar
Old Golf Club, which is oneof the you know, a handful of
elite clubs in the world. He'salso a Wall Street guy, Gazilla hedge
fund, venture capital kind of guy, and he's going in there to do
the wheeling and dealing so that allthe toolking sort of stepped back and cleared

(16:29):
the way for some guy who's moneybags to come in and talk to the
government and cut the deal. Well, I know one thing that would at
least light up the Philly area interms of golf, if the PGA door,
if the PGA Tour didn't change.Joe. In twenty eighteen, taking
it back to a time machine, you wrote an article after Minnesota got the

(16:49):
three M which is going to behappening here at the end of July,
staying Minnesota was a smaller market, had a shorter season, yet they got
a regular season PGA Tour event.I had a Philadelphia, one of the
greatest golf cities that we talked aboutearlier in the post. Do you think
the Philadelphia city will ever see aPGA Tour event? In a word,

(17:10):
no, at least no time soon. It's been talked about the tour.
I can remember, you know, when I was writing about these things,
the two are readily acknowledging. Youknow, Philadelphia is a major market,
we don't have it. It maybe the biggest golf market that we don't
have a tournament, and we'd likeone. But that said, nothing ever
quite happened. There was a bigmovement at one point the Cricket Club had

(17:36):
agreed to host one. They'd evencarved out a date for it. They
were could find a sponsor that youknow we're talking about, Oh, it's
a sponsorship thing. What was asponsored thing? It's seven million bucks for
five years? Is the commitment thata company's got to make? Um I
used to advocate for the Comcast championsComcast has that in their in their couch

(17:57):
and cush So what's happening. Wemight have to get Moose to arrange the
next tour event. I'll take care. But if there, if there were
to be an event, which coursedo you think would accommodate best in Philly?
Give Moose? Are Moose with theinfo that he needs to see?
Are least six or eight or tencourses around here that could easily accommodate a

(18:18):
tour event starting with a ronimin. But that's a big elite exclusive club.
They don't want to give up theircourse every year they majors from time.
You could rotate it to like threeor four different places, put it a
rolling green one of them, thatone too. It's not In some cases
there's not so much the course thataccommodated, but the grounds around build out.

(18:44):
Yeah, yeah, it's not.I mean just having the TV there.
I mean they need to have thatgreat because it's just like the middle
of nowhere. I went to thatand I walked around there. I kept
saying, God had forgotten what agreat club and course. This is a
beautiful It was a giant, bigscale. You go these big events like
that, and the courses for themost part have this just larger than life

(19:08):
scale amount. Pinehurst, Pebble Beach, you know, and around here.
Actually the Cricket Club of course itwas going to host that event or that
was made available. Was the MilitiaHill course? No, wow, there
was hicking course. Aronomen could doit. Uh, Liberty Hill or whatever.
The one over the old Ace Clubis Liberty Hill, yeah, um,

(19:32):
and Rolling Green could probably do it. Uh you could. You could
just go on and on about whocould potentially host. Well, what about
the new Cobbs Creek if this eventuallydoes get built? I mean, I
don't know what year. Can yougive us an update on that because I
don't I know. That's the ideais to maybe bring a tour event here.
Oh yeah, I did hear that? Yeah, I mean will that
happen? I don't know, that'sa that's a you know, a big

(19:56):
city neighborhood, and most of theseevents are out where there's buses and parking
and all kinds of stuff that ifthey pull that off, if they pull
off this sixty five million dollar renovationand get a tour event, that will
be on the biggest accomplishments ever ingolf. You just wrote the headline,

(20:18):
you know, good luck with it. I mean, right now it is
meaning all the kind of I mean, they're making headway, but there's also
resistance among many of the neighbors whofeel like they're building this giant thing.
They're changing our landscape, our backyard, and there's a ripple effect throughout the

(20:40):
neighborhood. So there are people whoare still resisting it. But it's making
progress. You know, they're workingon it. So I've seen nothing to
me that would would halt it ordelay it overly badly, you know.
So I think it's coming, justa matter of how long it takes.
Yeah, we're supposed to have prettysoon in the next couple weeks. Ben
Dewan that, of course, Superintendentin Cobb's Creek on as a guest,

(21:02):
so we'll get some more information atthat time and see where things go.
Yeah, I know, with Tiger'saffiliation with it, with the schooling they're
putting in there, there's there's alot more than just the golf course.
So very curious to see where thisgoes. It kind of like it was
when we first started this podcast acouple years ago, we had people on.
It was like right at the heightof all of the talk about it.
Then I guess with the pandemic, things kind of slowed down and now
picking back up pretty heavily. Well, you know, the whole thing started

(21:26):
one of a couple of guys,Joe Boush and Mike Serba, had this
friends of Cobb's Creek that you know, these are guys who were just golf
golf course architecture geeks, yeah, and don't readily acknowledge that, Oh yeah,
I love to play golf. Andthey walked around and you know,
got the idea that this could bere done, restored, and it from

(21:51):
there, their little idea grew andgrew, and then you know, guys
with money and connections got in thepicture and it's grown into this colossal event
thing, you know that's much biggerthan their little idea is growing to a
point that it is great, sowe'll see. I don't know what that

(22:14):
bell was, something Turkey style.God. Well, Joe, listen,
we we thank you for finally comingon. We appreciate it. Uh,
you know you're coming on the show. Make sure you're following at my Philly
Golf and head to my Philly golfdot com. Check out all that Joe
does. Check him out on InsideGolf with our buddy Harry Donahue where he
has some incredible insights on on aSunday morning. Um, and we really

(22:38):
really bad Harry Arey's on there aswell too, right, So, uh
that that seems to be a prettysteady thing now, Joe, it's the
start is like just a one timeguest and then just Harry just dug his
hooks in and keep going. Youknow, if you show up on time,
sober, annoying sobers the key Yeahawesome. Well, Joe, thank

(23:02):
you so much for coming on,and we'll have you back on so I'm
sure soon, as these stories ingolf do not seem to be dying down
anytime soon, so appreciate your time, right, pleasure, Thanks Joe.
All right, guys, let's takea quick break and we will be right
back, all right, and welcomeback to swing it and thing. It
great to have the great Joe Loganon Harry. Joe Logan's been uh,
you know, part of the Phillygolf scene for a long time, long

(23:23):
before it was popular in a way, right, and it's kind of stuck
through it and always has some greatinsights that he shares. I think I
was on a panel one time withhim too on Insight Golf. Really good
dude, man. Yeah, that'show I got to know him. Was
doing the Insight Golf teed off segmentsover there many times, most times at
Lulu Country Club. And you know, we've been trying to work this out

(23:44):
for quite a while. And thenonce we got it worked out, we
had to get the technology worked outthis morning, but we all got it
done. So Yeah, I thoughtI was going to be the problem with
living in Haddonfield. That looks likea war zone. We'll tell me about
that. What the heck happened over? Yeah, they think that a small
tornado toucheddown like literally half a lockfrom me when I was driving home from
we were at the Legacy Club allday. I said, by the way,
they did an incredible job with fourthof July. Keith and his team

(24:06):
over there just had a blast, stayed for dinner and it poured right.
It was just like you know, they started sounding the alarms on the golf
course, but it wasn't really windyover there. And as I drove back
into Haddenfield, I'm like, Icouldn't even I had to get out of
the car multiple times. It movedtrees to get back to the house.
And wow. Yeah, they saidit was the most amount of trees down
ever from a storm. And onestreet, a street called Wood which little

(24:29):
side street, it literally has sixtrees. Yeah. Yeah, I think
that's where a tornado touchdown. Isent you guys a picture. Neighbors and
half a block away. They weremoving in yesterday and now they have a
tree through that split right through theirhouse. Wow, So welcome to the
neighborhood, right, crazy crazy. So we talked about, you know,
we said a couple weeks ago withthese greenskeepers and golf staff puts up with

(24:49):
I mean, they are just they'regetting hit with it with these storms.
But pretty crazy. But a stormin the form of a little orange dressed
man came through Detroit. But youknow, when you think about it,
we knew it was coming. Wedidn't know when you know, he wasn't
pressing in a way from what hesaid. But here's a guy who had
thirteen top twenties in his past fifteenstarts. Yeah, so this is not

(25:12):
like a fluke, like, hey, he just popped up in won.
You know, the thirty four yearold Ricky Fowler at the Rocket Mortgage Classic,
his first win since twenty nineteen, which was the Waste Management, which
is pretty funny. You know,he led fifty four holds of the US
Open, came in fifth, Travelers, he came in thirteenth. You know,
you knew it was coming. Buteven watching it, right, I
watched the end again, it wasn'ton TV. He looked like a guy

(25:34):
that was trying not to lose andwas trying not to win, you know,
not trying to win, but tryingnot to lose. But then he
squeaks his way into a playoff.Yeah, and you have Adam Hadwin and
Colin more Cow who just stripe itdown the middle of the fairway and Ricky
puts it in the concessions like he'sover getting a hot dog and You're like,
oh, that's over, yep.And he gets the drop and sticks

(25:56):
it the guys are in the middleof the fairway andies it for the win.
And I don't know if I've everseen, you know, when Jordan's
beat one um after he had onein a while, like he saw that
like kind of relief but move on. Like it wasn't a fist pump,
it was a sigh. It waslike his Caddy was way more hype than
he literally just kind of like,Caddy, let's go. He was just

(26:18):
like, oh my goodness, finallyYeah. But but Harry, tremendous tournament.
I mean, it sucks that forthem, for people that aren't too
tech savvy that you know, couldn'tjust flip on the TV and watch it.
You know that that was a hugemiss by the PGA Tour. But
incredible, incredible event. And congratulationsto Ricky Fowler. Yeah, congratulations a
sixth PGA Tour win. And youknow, it's been a long long time.

(26:41):
We you know, we we predictedthat this would happen when we had
our episode way back in the inthe winter with the coach Jonathan Coachman where
we were giving predictions. We allpretty much agreed that Ricky would have would
knock it down this year. Andyou mentioned all the top twenties. I
mean, he's been knocking on thedoor and but but that seventy second hole
he needed birdie. When he hedid not make a part the birdie on

(27:03):
the two par fives on the closingnine, you're thinking, oh, he
blew it. Like I'm thinking, cause I'm playing golf at the time and
one of the guys I'm playing with, Dan had it on his phone and
the reception was not that great, but he's given us like stroke by stroke
updates and he said, oh,Ricky just pard the par five. I'm
like, he's done, Like becausemarkwa had birdied it and more cow was

(27:26):
eight under heading to eighteen, andI'm thinking, wow, this is over.
He blew it. He makes birdieon eighteen after he almost pulls his
t shot into the hazard he wasjust a couple of feet away from being
in that little hazard that divides thefairways there and then sticks his iron shot
and makes the put and You're like, wow, we gotta playoffs. And
then I'm like, where's a TV? And then I realized it doesn't matter

(27:48):
if there's a TV because it's noton what an outrage, like this whole
thing got so screwed up because ofthe weather, but man, he pulled
it off. Mora cow was eightunder that day. It's good to see
him playing and well again Birdie's onSunday. Yeah, because he's a guy
who hasn't won in a couple ofyear, like what two years? I
think it's been since, yes, since the Oaks one. But you had
a playoff, you had drama.Uh it was It was pretty cool.

(28:11):
And seeing those kids. The stickkept showing those two little boys they might
have been brothers. I don't know. They looked alike. They might have
been twins dressed out dressed like Ricky. And when Adam had when I think
missed the putt, the kid,Yeah, it's all fired up because Adam
had when missed his putt for Birdie, Adam had him was clapping for the
wind though he wasn't getting too close. He didn't want to get tackled again.

(28:33):
But right right, he just lostin a playoff and even him,
you know, you could tell howmuch I really liked this guy. Um
and Danielle. Is that what youhear throughout the golf circles too, that
he's just a likable, you know, human being. Yeah, I mean
generally in the community, I think, uh, well, community of Jupiter,
if you will. He's a likedguy. There's a couple of spots
him and his wife will you know, go for for a brunch and he's

(28:56):
just he's not like like the restof him. I guess he's just a
likable guy. Like you said, and like Joe was saying earlier. You
know, he whoever was his hisagent at the time, through college,
they branded him correctly that even ifwhen he wasn't having success on the course,
he was having it through his endorsementsand making money that way. But
he's just a likable guy. He'sa dad, he's a husband, he's

(29:18):
you know, just happy and Yeah, it seems like everyone down here just
seems to root for him. It'san easy guy to root for. Yeah,
And I think he might have lockeddown a spot on the Ryder Cup
team. He moved up to numbertwenty three, right with his uh he
got to be a captain's pick, right. If he doesn't work his way
into the well, he may betaking his boy JT spot. Let's face
it, there might be some Itook him in one and done, and

(29:42):
sure enough he comes out of thegate looking you know, awful, and
then played reasonably well on Friday. But couldn't you know, make up make
enough ground to get back into thecut. So that's my fault. When
you're playing good golf, you're playinggood golf. When you're not, you're
not. We've seen a j aroller coaster over well since the US Open.

(30:03):
Really yeah, yeah, I'll tellyou about that. Like I don't
I'm usually not this person, butI just the course did not show well
to me on TV, Like itlooked like it just looked like a muni
to me. I don't know why, Like I don't know if it's the
angles or the fact that it's kindof tucked in where it is, but
it's very just didn't impress me,right as far as like, you know,
dramatic holes or anything like that. That's Detroit, right, I mean,

(30:25):
yes, it's Detroit. Was actuallynice. I was there last year.
I wasn't there this year, butI enjoyed it last year. I
thought it was a you know,it's a really nice club. But it
probably just didn't didn't It didn't showwell on TV. Yeah, I know
everything holes like looked the same, right, there wasn't underwhelming. Yeah,
Plus all that red like the grandstanding being read to me, I don't

(30:48):
know, kind of adds to it. Like maybe if that was white like
most of the other events are,it kind of brightens it up. It
seemed very dark. Yeah, yeah, TV, I agree. But yeah,
I mean some interesting, interesting guysthat popped up, and you know,
a couple of guys that had achance that you know, played really
well. Some of the young guysthat are that are continuing to play really
well. So I think it's it'smatching up. And obviously we're two weeks

(31:11):
away from the Open, so I'mgonna have to fall off this week with
John Deere. But what about yousaid young guys playing well? Peter quest
mondayed in. Yeah, he actuallyplayed in our group in Dallas at the
Byron, but he has no statusand he continues to just there's some guys.
There's a handful of guys who willjust continue to try to Monday and
gained status that way. And PeterQuast is one of those guys. Where

(31:34):
did he finish at like ending uplike T nine or something like that.
I think he was a top tenyeah Monday, really well finished top ten,
pretty impressive. Yeah. Absolutely. And then on the live side you
have Taylor Gooch with another win.Talk about an interesting conundrum for the rider.
Where is he stack at his money? Like, do you want that

(31:55):
guy on your I don't know.He just he seemed to have rubbed a
lot of people the wrong way throughoutthe process. He seems like a strange,
little guy kind of fella. Butyeah, he was a surprise in
the beginning that he went over.I remember getting text like, way goo
just is going org right, Yeah, they pay. They played that event
at a very famous golf course, one of the most famous golf courses in
all of Europe, at Valda Rama. Oh yeah, it's Sergio's home away

(32:20):
from home. Sergio missed Open qualifying. Is the first time he's not playing
in the Open, and I thinktwelve years or something like that, what
he missed by three. I mightbe off on my numbers, but I
saw that come through golf tweeter.Yeah. And and and you know we're
getting dribs and drabs. I mean, you know, Joe talked about it
with the coming up with with hearingsand whatnot. But you know, there's

(32:40):
some documents that get leaked and itbrings up Tiger Woods his name and what
he was the script that he wassupposed to stay and the Tiger's like,
no, no, no, Ididn't see that. I didn't never seen
it. He's like, it wassupposed to be presented to me at a
meeting at an event that I wasn'twanting to wasn't even active the meeting,
right, Yeah, that's what hetweeted. Yeah, yeah, Moose summed
it up. Gutt, he said. Tiger's response was of what thirty five

(33:02):
words are less? Yeah? Youhave that handy to read to the read
to the listeners. Yeah, Ijust we it. That just pulled it
up. Yeah, he said inresponse to the Talking Points memo released this
weekend. I have never seen thisdocument until today, and I did not
attend the players meeting for which itwas prepared at the twenty twenty two Travelers,
so they might be prepared it forhim, but he didn't didn't seem

(33:23):
to ask for it. I don'tthink Tiger is the kind of guy's going
to read a script either, right, Sure, A lot of people prepare
a lot of things for Tiger, and it didn't even hit his agent or
anybody on his team. To summarizeit was basically just bash the crap out
of Live in the Sawdies, likethat's that's what he was, That's what
they the PGA tour seemed to beasking him, which runs in line with

(33:43):
the communication during that time, right. They didn't hide that. They were
pretty out there trying to you knowthere they felt like they were in a
war and they were trying to inslatethemselves and then they just they s face
it. They just put up thewhite flag at some point and just said
can't beat them, join them.I feel like lately it's just been like
we're trying to be like we look, we found this, and it's like
okay, like if there's competition abusiness, it's going to do what they

(34:04):
can do to try to knock outtheir upcoming competition. But really, we
still don't know anything more than wehave since the initial news of the potential
merger, even that doc that wetouched on last week. This slight news
if you want to call it that, just because add Tiger's name. We
don't know anything else. It's thesame thing. Yeah, we're trying to
make news out of nothing. Yeah, more questions than answers. Yeah,

(34:27):
well how about Bernhard Langer? Wow, German engineering at its finest knocks down
not only the forty sixth PG eightTour Champions win, which now moves him
into first all time ahead of ailOr When. I don't know if anybody's
going to be able to knock tocatch that record. I really don't.
I'm glad he's finally hitting his strideexactly what sixty five us Hope Moose?

(34:53):
I mean, do you know,I'm I turned fifty eight last week,
so I'm you know I can identifywith Bernhard's But it's his twelfth major on
PGA Tour champions which is also arecord that I don't know if anybody's going
to be able to knock down. And I did some research on him.
I didn't realize this. I mean, I know he had the two Masters
wins. He only has three PGATour wins, two of them are Masters.

(35:15):
But you know he's second all timein European Tour wins. No,
second all time to who sev Seves? Yeah? Wow? How many wins
in the forties on the on theEuropean Tour yees and then three tour wins.
Three tour wins, two of themare Masters Championship. Yeah, damn,

(35:37):
impress very impressive. Do you thinkhe anchors the putter, Harry Mash
Now, I don't, I reallydon't. I think he kind of just
hangs puts that. I don't seeany depression. I don't see any depression
in the polo, now, Idon't. Some people like to break it
down. He cares. If hedoes right, then you do. If

(35:57):
that's then you do it and seehow many puts do you make? Right?
Like, if that's gonna help?Ang, Yeah, you still got
to stick at that golf course lookedpretty slick. That Century World place.
That Century Insurance of course, wasa big sponsor of golf and PGA.
They sponsored their champions event over inHawaii every year. And yeah, um
that golf They built that for theiremployees back in the eighties. And that

(36:20):
place looks slick really Yeah, wow, pretty cool. Nice. It's nice
to have a course build. Heyguys, the employees. I built your
golf course. And now we movedto another interesting event and an interesting golf
course, that John Deer Classic TPCDeer Run in Illinois, again is two
weeks before the Open Championship, soyou have some people taking it off.
The top player in the field asnumber nineteen, Cam Young. It's always

(36:44):
a low scoring event. Um,Denny McCarthy is he was the favorite now
just bumped out of the favorite behindHenley. So shooting hoops. Yeah yeah,
last year posting one at twenty oneunder very important part five scoring.
But it's all about hitting fairways andthen you're short irons, so you know
this will be This is one whereI think you can make a little money

(37:04):
if you're gambling on it. Whenthe drinking sports book. But what do
you think about the John Deer? How are you a John Dear guy?
I am? I am a JohnDeer guy. I like this golf course
again reminds me, you know ofa golf course that looks fun to play,
you know, it's sort of likethe one back in Hartford area a
couple of weeks ago in Connecticut, which is another TPC course. But this
is the old Quad Cities event andDa Wybering, former tour player, and

(37:28):
a guy named Chris Gray actually designedthis course. This was part of the
property of John Deer. Like theyhad they owned all these massive farm lands
and like one of the one ofthe founding, like the relatives or one
of the family of John Deer livedon it and it was a horse farm.
And they were like, well,if we're going to be a sponsor,
and we want to make sure thatyou don't decide to pack up and
leave PGA Tour, because then notonly going to lose the event, but

(37:52):
then the people in the area aregoing to hate us. So how about
we build you a golf course? And they, you know, they got
at the land and they built thegolf course and to me it looks like
a super fun place to play.Like you said, you got to go
low. A lot of birdies areto be had there. Typically scores are
in the low twenties to win.And you mentioned cam Young as the highest
ranked player. He's kind of pullinga JT of what JT tried to do

(38:15):
last week. It's a guy thatneeds to sort of get his year sort
of kickstarted here because he hasn't reallybeen playing all that well since finishing T
seven in the Masters. And ofcourse you finished second in the match play
way back in March. But it'sbeen a while since Cam Young has put
up a good week, so he'slooking to do that as the highest ranked
player. I'm going to stay awayfrom him. I don't want to jinx

(38:37):
him because we know that's what Ido. But this is a cool place
to play. I think it wouldbe a great place to play. Oh
yeah, yeah, and mister Matthewsis in Illinois. That correct, Daniel,
he is. I was gonna flyout there, but there's no like
direct anything, So I'm gonna goout to Kentucky for a little bit next
week. Ying in Philly are swingand ending it. That's right. I

(39:01):
thought I might have been in herelast week, but it tends I got
my I got my dates mixed up. So I said to him, I
was like, I'm I texted thegroup. I was like, yeah,
I'm sitting at Turtle waiting for itto open so I can hit balls.
But he thought I meant Turtle upthere. So he's like, hey,
do you and your girlfriend want toplay with us? And I was like,
yeah, for sure. Because he'slike the Saturday, I assumed it
was a Saturday for the outing,so I text Gabby. I'm like,

(39:22):
yo, you in like Saturday morning, we'll play, like get a little
practice you know around if you will. And then Harry texted me later that
night and he's like, you guysstill good for tomorrow. I'm like tomorrow?
Ill in Jupiter. I was like, Harry, I thought you meant
this Saturday even before the outing. So I felt so bad then because I
was like, oh, man,I committed. Is the time booked for

(39:43):
the Saturday before the outing? Now? Is that happening or what? Oh
you might have to get that onthe book. Always do that, Yeah,
you can always do that. Wouldthat be on the grass Yeah?
Yeah, wait because seventeenth Yeah yeah, yeah, well make sure yeah,
have the time time in day correct. Let's get first time out if we
can. But yeah, you mentionedlike Denny McCarthy. I mean, this

(40:06):
is he's one of one of thefavorites. You mentioned. Henley just popped
in ahead of him. But youknow, is this his breakthrough is ludvig
Aberg. You know, he's oneof these young guns. He had a
humdrum weekend in Detroit, but hegot out to a great start, made
the cut. Eric Cole is alsogetting a little love on him. Uh.
You know for fantasy lineups, especiallythis week, this looks like a
good place for him and Adam Shankwho has really has played well all season

(40:30):
long. A couple of top topfive, top tens. Uh, you
know Midwest guy be a good storyfrom Indiana winning in Illinois. So there's
a lot of good little storylines hereI'm looking for. Plus, Michael Thorbjornson
and Gordon Sergeant are also the twoamateurs teeing it up two young guns.
Sergeant played last week but missed thecut. I think he played with Brandon

(40:51):
right in the same good he did. Yeah, yeah, I mean,
you know, you look at itthe last the last winners you have,
whereas it you have JT Postings postingright, you have Lucas Glover for Telly,
Michael Kim and Bryson, So youhave a pretty wide variety of mixed
bag. It is ten of thirteenof the last winners that played in this

(41:12):
event the last year and made thecut, so it is a familiar kind
of things, it seems like.So that's that's kind of where I'm leaning.
If we want to move in tosee the line, we could we
could go do that. So butas we know, guys from Ta Green,
the best place to go to getin on all the action happening on
the links is Draft King sports BookThis week for the John Dear. Just
like any week, new customers willreceive an odds boost to add plus one

(41:32):
thousand to any pre tournament wager upto ten dollars on any golfer to win.
Draft Kings will be featuring parlays andodds boost all tournament long, so
be sure to check out the DraftKing sports Book at every day before the
tournament starts to see what they havein store. You know, we talked
about JT posting. You know,I do like that Eric Cole number at
thirty five hundred or even in amatchup, I'm taking a look at him.

(41:55):
But also a guy like Patton Kazaireand four starts. He's never been
out out of the top thirty,so I don't mind that number. But
the bottom line is download the Draftkingsports Book app now, use promo code
ding and boost your odds during thisweek's tournament. That's code ding only on
Draftking sports Book. Gambling problem calledone a hundred gambler in Massachusetts called one

state specific responsible gambling resources. Weneed to get when we say dames to
get like a little ding noise,We need to get some type of music.
We're leveling it up each week, but we got to incorporate some music
or something here. Getting a coupleother thoughts to round out that. The
sea, the line Ryan Moore,he has a win here in twenty sixteen,

(42:59):
T two and twenty twe one onlyone miss cut in ten starts twenty
four and twenty two. So somebodyto really take a look at you a
good lineup guy? Oh yeah, yep, yep. Henley who whose number
just just went up right because hewas second in twenty nineteen. So it's
a little bit a little tough toto do that. But how about a
guy like for Telly who's won hereeven in the top ten. You get

(43:19):
him at twenty two hundred rights pastwinner, so why not take a look
at him, And then Sam Ryder'sjumping out of me for some reason in
the top five at plus two thousand, So yeah, that's that's what it
looks like. I think it's beena while since for Telly played well,
but yeah, it's a long number, but yeah, you talk about Denny
McCarthy. He was sixth here lastyear and he's got three top tens in
his last six starts on the tour, so playing coming in in great form'd

(43:44):
be great to see him break through. I'm taking him in a top ten
at plus two hundred. I don'twant to jinx him. Adam Hadwin,
you know, this would be agreat spot for him to keep up what
he did last week. Plus twentyeight hundred to win, I think is
a pretty decent number for him.And Shank plus three thousand to win he
withdrew back in twenty twenty two,but he was fourth in twenty twenty one

(44:06):
at this event and sixth in twentynineteen, so obviously it's a golf course
that he plays well on plus threethirty for a top ten. You mentioned
Cole Jagger and Aberg are all toptwenty plays for me at plus one sixty
five. Beautiful, beautiful, Daniel. Anything jumping out of you this week
based on the course and the playersin it. I'm writing the Harry train

(44:30):
and his thoughts and what I thoughtin the last couple of weeks as well.
I think my one and done them. So I like your top ten
with Dannie with a top ten,I think that's probably one of the safest
bets that you can make. Youknow, I always say, when you're
playing good golf, you're playing goodgolf. He seems like he's having a
great time. He's happy, he'sfun, he's out there, he's shirt
and hoops again. He's just enjoyinghimself. He took a week off last

(44:53):
week. I think he's going tobe refreshed, ready to go out there
looking to continue playing well and eventuallyget that win. So I like him
in the top ten as well.Awesome love it. We talked about the
golf outing coming up, which I'mdoing some doing some beer pick up this
week. We have Arnold Palmer,Spiked is going to be involved. We
have Workhorse par Punch that's going tobe involved. So I have to do

(45:15):
some do some running around and getsome more of the prizing and stuff that
we have for this thing. Andalso I'm meeting with John DeMarco over the
course on Thursday to go through allof the make sure I have enough,
you know, closest to the pinmeasuring all that, are you setting the
pin locations? I don't know aboutthat maybe I am, honestly well,
I'm sure you've gotten to know someof those ornery pin locations on some of

(45:36):
those greens by I haven't found toomany that I like to, but Harry,
our friends from mall Chevy will bethere, of course at twenty twenty
three Silverado for a hole in onea three year lease. And we love
our friends of mal Chevy, let'sface absolutely, And for eight years in
a row now maul Chevrolet, they'vebeen South Jersey's number one Chevy dealer.
Now. Of course, it couldbe because they treat their customers right.

(45:58):
That's why mal Chevy was voted topone hundred dealer in the country for customer
satisfaction. But I kind of stillthink it's because of that motto we sell
Chevies for lest find your perfect driveat maul Chevrolet is at mal Chevrolet on

(46:20):
mal Chevy dot com. Tremendous.Yeah, don't forget. The women have
a US open Hevile Beach this week. I might end up watching as much
or more of that as I dothe tpcuh Deer Run and the you know,
the John Dear because Rose Jang isthe favorite. She's been on tour
for about a month, then itfor six weeks? Did she see?

(46:42):
Favorite? Twitter was blowing up becauseher tea shot. The tea went back
and landed in her back pocket withthe yardage bucket. She's so good she
doesn't even have to pick up hertea. Oh, it's hilarious. It's
like a trick shot. It's funny. She didn't even notice. It's just
like scoop and right there next toher almost rom numbers right fifty. But

(47:02):
you know you could even you canhop in on Nellie Korda at plus two
thousand. Yeah, I mean there'sLeona McGuire is playing really good golf at
plus two thousand. I would takea shot at her. Yeah, I
don't love Nellie for anyone listening who'strying to get back in there. She
just returned after an injury miscut. She's I think maybe mentally not fully prepared

(47:23):
ready to go. I'd stay awayfrom throwing money there. Wow, love
that is? How about that playfade and Nellie Korda, I love it,
love it put her on the tomislist, are you I love it?
All? Right? Well, we'llbe back next week. We'll have
more of kind of our final breakdownfor the Golf outing, and then we'll
be live from the Golf Outing,um you know, on the seventeenth.

(47:45):
So really looking forward to it again. Benefits the Magical Mula Foundation. Learn
more, head to their website, see what they're doing, look look for
ways to get involved. We're proudto be partnered with them and really looking
forward to everything else that we havegoing on. And we'll be we'll be
