what's next. Comcast Business Powering Possibilities. Just gotta get out there and swing
(00:26):
and ding it. Yeah, youknow, just guess it's gonna go out
there and trying to swing it anddang it. All right, Hello and
welcome to Swing It and Ding Itand iHeartMedia podcast. This is Moose with
Matthews and May's on the second podcastof the week. We did our first
one live from the Fox Sports toGain. We're Swing It and Thing it
open on Monday. We'll get intothat later in the show, but we
(00:47):
have bigger fish to fry. Asthey say, Harry, you know,
into business. If you are followingany of the live PGA Tour drama,
there's there's one guy, in myopinion on Twitter who stands out far and
above the rest, and that isJohn Nucci. Make sure you're following at
Jay Nucci twenty three. UM.I feel like when something breaks, you
could mute like fifty people and justfollow John and get all the information.
(01:08):
So, John, thank you forwriting clarity in a very unclear situation and
welcome to swing it and ding it. I appreciate it. Thank you very
much for having me absolutely and alsoPenn State law graduate. Is that correct?
Okay? How about undergrad? Allright? You nice? All right?
Yeah? I undergrad? I wentto you go actually up up near
(01:29):
Syracuse. So okay, you gotthree temple you got three temple grads.
You got three temple grads on theline. Yeah. Yeah. And of
course he works with the great DanLust on the Conduct Detrimental podcast and you
can follow them too at con Detrimentalon Twitter. Yeah. So John,
talk about the the whirlwind that thishas been and you know, the main
(01:52):
question I have for you, rightif this, if this, if this
was a drama, right, ifthis was a novel the Live PGA Tour,
what chapter or do you think we'rein? Right? If this is
a twenty chapter book, what chapterdo you think we're we're in? And
where this is going? I youknow, so I never would have predicted
the partnership that actually happened, thatwas announced at least on June sixth um.
(02:16):
So it's hard for me to saythat, I mean, I was.
I was. I was being introducedto talk about the litigation that day
to like forty lawyers from around theworld, and my phone started exploding and
I was like, just y'all know, this doesn't you know, mean anything
anymore. So hard for me topredict that. If I had to put
a guest on it, I'd saywe're probably around the fifteenth chapter twenty.
(02:38):
Um, I am pretty confident thatthat this deal is probably going to go
through. So I think we haveabout six months or so to kind of
finalize the details and then really sellit to golf fans and to sell it
to the golf world at that point. Um, So yeah, I'm pretty
confident that the deal is actually goingto go through. I know I might
(03:00):
be a little bit in the minoritythere, but I would say we're probably
about three quarters of the way throughthis saga. Wow, And you're pretty
confident that this is going to getdone because right now they're seeing they just
have an agreement. To have anagreement is really the you know what I
learned from those Senate hearings last week. But let's say this does get done
and you're correct, who in yourmind, then, would be really running
(03:23):
golf? Would it be the PGATour Like they're saying, oh, no,
we're going to be running all thisstuff. But when you have an
investment this size, isn't it hardto It's not that hard to believe to
say that, you know, thePIFF would really be running the sport.
So I do think the PGA toorder to be running it. And I
think there's in Bluemental kind of expressedthat too, where he said, if
(03:44):
someone's putting up all the money, then they have all the control. But
I think what a lot of peopleare overlooking here is the PGA Tour contributing
all of their commercial assets to thisnew entity. So they're not they might
not be contributing cash, you know, two billion dollars up front, but
the value of what they are contributing, it's all of their media rights,
that all of their assets, allof their tournament infrastructure that is in the
(04:06):
process I believe of you know, they're going through a valuation process, so
that could be in the fifteen, you know, twenty billion dollar range.
So I would expect if and thisagreement to kind of shake out similar to
how we've seen with something like theNBA where they just allowed sovereign wealth funds
to start investing to a cap oftwenty percent. I wouldn't be surprised if
(04:29):
we see something like that where it'san eighty twenty seventy five twenty five situation,
because you know, as I said, the value of what the PGA
tour is contributing, even though it'snot cash, is you know, maybe
a five, six, seven timesmultiple of the public investment funds cash.
So, Danielle, thank you.I had admitted you mentioned after everything is
(04:55):
done and finished, and it haveto be a cell to the fans,
to the players, to everything, what do you think is the hardest part
of that? You know, Ithink the hardest part is going to be
having to walk back a lot ofrhetoric that has been thrown around for the
last year. They've been telling theplayers and all of the fans, um,
(05:16):
you know, for a long time, trying to play that take the
moral card and as far as liveis concerned. Uh, And now all
of a sudden overnight, you know, they're they're good for the game,
and they're good for you know,uh, and you should embrace it.
So I think that's going to betheir Their biggest hurdle is having to sell
this to the people that they spentthe last year telling that the you know,
(05:39):
they live is not good for golffan, the public investment fund is
not good for golf. And nowall of a sudden, they you know,
are kind of doing at one eighty. And that's going to have to
be sold not only to the PGATour members that stayed, but also to
maybe certain fans who you know,uh, you know, believe that message
and plot into it. So andstaying in that same topic, what do
(06:01):
you think of Jay's future? Youknow, it's a good question. I
my first reaction when this all cameout, in the initial player reaction,
I said, there's no way thathe survives, you know, long term.
I didn't think that there was anyway. I guess I've shifted a
little bit because I think the players'stances have softened a little bit. You
(06:23):
saw Rory come out in some pressconferences and support of him, seeing other
players indicate support for the deal.I think it was maybe a little bit
of a shock at the beginning, and it was a little bit of an
emotional reaction, and now that thingshave softened, maybe em players are starting
to see that this was the bestpass forward to end all of the litigation
(06:44):
and also retain control of golf.I know that's that's what those in the
PGA tours I think. So Idon't know. I if you asked me
six weeks ago, I would havesaid he had no chance. But the
players stances have seemed this off ona little bit. I don't know,
maybe they've getting a little more informationor they just started to process it a
(07:05):
little more. So I think ifthat's the case and this deal does go
through, I think maybe he doessurvive. Walk through. Daniel has two
PGA Tour players sleeping like twenty fivefeet from here. Maybe we can go
wake them up and just you know, see what they think about, see
if they can get their vote.Yeah. So, how we just saw
just all this morning that Yassa willbe attending the Open. He will be
(07:26):
in attendance for the Open. John, do you think this is the last
major where we'll have an issue withguys that could qualify who's in who's not.
Well, that's a little kind ofvery dependent on what the Department Adjustice
does. I mean, they couldthey could delay this thing for a long
time, and it might just bebusiness as usual over both sides. So
(07:48):
I guess it would totally depend onthat. I think there's always gonna be
a little bit of that dynamic, especially because we don't know what golf is
gonna look like. We don't obviously, we don't know if Live as You've
going to be around anymore. Wedon't know if it's just going to be
wrapped up into a fall schedule,So we don't really know any of that
yet. But I would say, yeah, I tough question. I guess
(08:13):
I would say that this is probablythe last one because, as I mentioned
earlier, I'm in the minority. But I do think this deal is gonna
is going to go through, andI think it's ultimately going to pass,
and I think we'll ultimately have aunified sport. So I think it AUGUSTA
things might be, uh, youknow, kind of a return to normal
(08:33):
there. Well, John, whatabout the loyalty reparations issue? I saw
John Ram kind of kind of squashthat yesterday and his press conference saying that
you know, he stayed because youknow, he wasn't pressured to stay.
That's where he wanted to be,and he doesn't feel like he needs any
extra money, but if they're willingto give him some, he'll take it.
But that's not going to be arequirement at least from him. Yeah,
(08:58):
and you know, interestingly, hesigned at the same he said at
the same day he signed a Calawisextension and got equity and you know top
calf Calais. Yeah, I don'tneed all that money. But you know,
maybe for some other people that uh, you know turned down the boatloads
of money, and you know, someone like Will's l Tours for instance,
I think he turned down one hundredand thirty million and then something like that
and immediately hurst back. Uh Sosomeone like that might have a little bit
(09:24):
of a different take on this thanthan John rom But I think that they'll
find a way ultimately to do that. I think it's probably going to be
through something like the Player Impact Programwhere they just say that live players are
not eligible, which might sound likenot a big deal, but I think
it's it's one hundred million dollars nowand if they're banned from it for ten
(09:45):
years, I mean that's a that'sa billion dollars that uh, live players
are are not eligible to receive. So um, I don't see it as
any type of equity program, butthey that was being floated around a little
bit. I would out it's notout of the question, I guess,
but I think it's going to bemore so maybe ineligible for uh you know,
(10:07):
the purses and elevator events for acouple of years, or maybe ineligible
for the PfP program for a while. They're gonna have to make some type
of changes on the PET because it'sjust going to be the same guy as
like I mean, Tigers won.It hasn't need like the don't employ and
then it's like Rory and JT andyou know, probably Max Homer, the
big mostly Twitter social media guys.Yeah, and I that was at least
(10:33):
it seemed like that was kind ofthe whole intent of it was to just
pay it, you give it anextra little uh you know, pay out
to the top the biggest stars inthe game to try to you know,
ensure that they didn't make the makeit the chump to live. Um.
So I think that was the wholepurpose of it. So I guess in
that in that respect, it's probablyserving its purpose. But yeah, it
(10:54):
is limited to uh you know, kind of kind of the top end guys,
especially some of them that aren't evenplaying anymore. So I guess they
probably should rework that eligibility criteria. That would be good. Now, you
know, we all watched the Senatehearings. I'm sure that you kind of
see that through a different lens thanus. So i'd love to get your
perspective of, you know, whatyour takeaways from that. Were there any
things that you know, maybe thegeneral public didn't really catch onto, but
(11:18):
there were some undertones like okay, this could be an issue and anything that
really jumped out of you from thosehearings. So more tho than the hearings
was that the memo that they release, that you know, one hundred something
page memo that they released showing theback and forth in the red lines on
the framework agreement. That tells moreto me than anything that happened at the
(11:39):
hearing, because that is, youknow, each business side and their lawyers
going back and forth about what theprimary issues are, and you're able to
see what they kind of kicked downthe road. You know, they said,
here's our position, here's our position, and then in the middle they
said to be mutually agreed upon orsomething like that, which means those are
the issues that they're going to haveto talk about. A main one was,
(12:00):
um, the extent to which thatfIF would have any type of veto
rights or consent rights on major, you know, major decisions. I would
be shocked if that ends up beingpart of the actual deal. It wouldn't
make much sense for the PGA Tourto enter into agreement that says we have
all the control, but you know, the other side can veto us at
(12:22):
any at any moment every time wetry to make a big decision. So
that was a big one. UM. I also think they I think they
showed a little bit of a fundamentalsomeone like Bluementhal misunderstanding of how the entity's
going to work, because he keptsaying, you know, Pitt is contributing
all the money and contributing all themoney. But I've mentioned earlier the PGA
tour contributing almost the whole business tothis, so that's obviously has a huge,
(12:46):
huge value that Bluementhal didn't really pickup on. I also, as
a golf fan, it was alittle frustrating to keep hearing them say PGA
instead of being tour. But thatwas a little side issue. But I
think the veto and consent rights isa big one. I think that that
is going to be really interesting. And then the other one that they kicked
(13:07):
the can down the road a lot, was the future of Live and what
Live is going to look like.I've sort of maintained throughout that I think
Live was just a I don't knowthat this was the whole plan all along,
necessarily, but I do think thatPublic Investment Fund just wanted to be
have a seat at the table inthe game of golf, the old trojan
(13:28):
horse. Yeah, and I don'tthink they are married to the idea of
Live. I think the team conceptmight stay in some capacity, but I
don't I don't see Live staying toyou know, beyond this frameworker beyond the
Firebug agreement you referred to it earlieras a partnership. I heard words like
merger and the words like investment. From a legal perspective, what does it
(13:52):
matter and what do you think thisends up being? Well, it certainly
matters in the sense that they aretrying to avoid any type of serious DOJ
scrutiny because I won't get too intothe weeds on antitrust law. But well
that that is kind of the hallmarkis the two entities that are merging to
(14:13):
kind of dominate the market. Soin this other sense, they are creating
a new entity that is essentially justtaking an investment from the public investment funds.
So I think there was some probablytalking that somebody hasn't talking to from
some of the lawyers on the otherside, because they kind of quickly stopped
using the word merger. They quicklybacktracked on it. But the initial press
(14:35):
release said murder CMDC ticker when theywent on there said merger. So it's
going to be a little harder towalk those back now. But it does
make a difference in the sense thatit might they might avoid a little bit
of the OJA scrutiny if it's notit's not a true merger. And wasn't
there some sort of anti like disparagementtype of clause. I don't know if
(14:56):
that's the right word, but whereyou know, they want to, you
know, the players and people onthe tour to not be able to say
bad things about the Saudi the Saudigovernment. Yeah, and I believe that
was just basically during the term ofthis framework agreement or from the time the
framework Agreement signs all the time thefinal agreement is signed. They didn't they
(15:18):
didn't want a disparishment, which isactually fairly common when two entities are in
discussions to you know, one isbuying the other merging or whatever you want
to call it, because it's hardto it's hard to sit there and negotiate
a business deal of you know, one side is just bashing the other side
on top um. So those arefairly common, although I think some of
the cenators did say that it wasa little more broad than they had seen,
(15:41):
but it's not surprising given that theplayer contracts at these some of them
on live also head non disparishment causesfor the public investments one for the government
of Saudi Arabia, so that's notshocking. I would be shocking to me
as if that made it in anyfinal final agreement where they said that the
players, you know, in thisnew PAGA tour enterprises or whatever it's going
(16:06):
to be called, can't disparage thepublic investment fund. I would be very
surprised to see that go through, and I think that's what Ron Price was
saying. They don't have any intentionof that, so that non disparishment clause
might just be I assume it's goingto be just during basically from the framework
agreement until the final agreement. Gotcha, John, talk about con conduct detrimental,
(16:26):
Talk about what you guys are doingover there, some of the other
characters that are involved, and howthat's been going for you. Guess yeah,
absolutely, So comic detrimental is ifDan lust and Dan Wallack. It
is the basically the intersection of sportsand law. So there are no shortage
of sports issues in the news allthe time. It's whether it's NFL or
(16:48):
Roder Goodell to Dan Snyder or Saga. So we are primarily lawyers, law
students that just kind of write aboutthe legal issues related to sports. I
just found a little bit of aniche in golf because I just loved the
game, and as soon as thispastur Live litigation hit, I thought it
was a perfect opportunity to you know, write about what my what my passion
(17:11):
is. So, uh, they'vebeen going at it for a while,
or release podcasts every week, umtalked about all things related to nil and
all things related to you know, what's what's new in the sports law world.
So, uh, it's conduct detrimental. You can Apple, Podcast,
Spotify and anywhere else that you listenas well. Let's get you out with
(17:32):
this last thing. Who's your Who'syour pick for the Open? You know
I've been wavering off. I'll giveyou you want to you want to group
like a gross long shot pick ordo you want We'll take anything, We'll
take it all, all right?So I I tended. I mean I
I this is a little bit ofa cop out. I think I think
(17:52):
Scotty Chef was probably winning the tournament. Um, I'm not going to set
him at seven to one, butI do think he's probably gonna win the
tournament. Beyond him, I actuallylike Mett Fitzpatrick's lee. I know he
doesn't typically play great in Open championships, I don't believe, but he seems
to set up well for this coursegiven his off the t accuracy and then
(18:18):
you and ferguson a very long shot. I'm not going to bet him to
win because he's like three hundred andfifty to one, but I am definitely
sprinkling like a top time top twentyon him. He's a scott player who
is pretty solid. And then anotherone is Ryan Fox. I think he's
got like eleven straight top thirties orsomething, and he's like plus three hundreds
top thirties. So as you cansee, I've I bet a little bit
(18:41):
too much golf. Yeah, sothose would be my Texas. It doesn't
sound like Matt Fitzpatrick likes the newseventeenth hole though. No, no,
many of them will, especially ifthey got to play like a gap was
or something into it. Well,John, listen, we really appreciate some
time. I have a feeling we'reprobably going to have you back on at
some point as the as the sagacontinues, but really enjoy following and reading
(19:06):
and watching what you do. It'sit's provided some clarity in a very unclear
situacy situation. We appreciate it.Thank you, thank you very much.
Thank you for having me. Thankyou got it. Thanks John. All
right, well take a quick break. We'll be right back. All right.
Welcome back to Swing It and Ding. It awesome to talk to John
Nucci. I mean, just agreat follow um. Even if you go
to his Twitter right now, hispin tweet that he has up there has
(19:27):
more information than most other accounts thatjust regurgitate the same stuff over and over
again. So really cool to talkto John. Thanks Harra for setting that
up. Yeah. At Jay Nuccitwenty three, yep, Sports Law Attorney
in chief, golf correspondent at conductdetrimental, which is you know all those
guys Dan lust and oh yeah, they're on it, man. They they
(19:47):
do not miss a topic for sure. But we touched on it a little
bit. The name Rory came upa few times. And Rory wins the
Genesis Scottish Open over Robert McIntyre.I know you're rooting for Robert McIntyre.
We talked about Scheffler. Scheffler witha T three. His last finish of
worse than T twelve was in October, Yes, October, at the CJ
(20:10):
Cup. Yeah, absolutely right. It's unbelievable that the stretch that he is
on and I know you didn't.He hasn't won a major yet this year,
but he did win the players andif he wins this week, that's
player of the year if you askme. You get a major and all
that consistency and the players lock itin because it's kind of a big battle
between him and John Ram, whowas hot early has a major, and
(20:33):
if he wins this week that probablylocks it down. And then if you
sneak in Wyndham Clark, if hesomehow pulls this out, he would be
a guy that you seriously have tolook at for Player of the Year.
But yeah, you said I wasrooting for McIntyre. I was. I
wasn't rooting against Rory McElroy. Iwas rooting for Robert McIntyre because it would
have been such a great story forthat young man to win his National Open.
(20:56):
And with the Sunday charge that heput on there with that shot on
eighteen where he was in you know, in the in the fescue, it
was just a brilliant golf shot.He ends up making birdie there after he
bogie the sixteen, the par fiveor you're thinking, oh my, like
has it all slipped away? Andthere then Rory comes up and doesn't make
birdie there he pars it, missesthat shortish put and he said, I
(21:18):
believe himself. He thought that thatwas the tournament, like he had to
make that birdie. He hits anace into t shot into seventeen. Everybody
was missing long left. He putsit on the green very close, makes
the put and now you're like, wow, he makes if he just pars
in he's in a playoff. Ifhe makes birdie, he wins, he
wins the tournament. And he pullsout a two iron into like this gale
(21:42):
force wind in his face from overtwo hundred yards. He put the I
think he put the four iron backbecause he took the three iron out of
his bag and went for the twoiron and had to hit a fade because
he had to keep it, youknow, from going too long. And
it was a tiger shot. Thatshot was was a tiger wood shot that
we used to grow you know, comfortable watching every week. It was pure
(22:04):
brilliance and you're gonna have a fouriron draw and he puts back and hits
a two iron pot within what wasit ten feet or what was the was
the I think it was around tenfeet. Yeah, incredible, unbelievable shot.
Well, I mean it was suchgreat drama that was. But the
thing is it wasn't on live televisionagain. Again, serious unbelievable. And
(22:26):
how about Tom Kim Harry, whoI know you liked. He went from
solo third to T six on eighteen. Yeah, on the on the on
the green of eighteen basically just unbelievable, and some of the other guys that
that are. You know, youlook who are rounding into form, especially
going coming into a Major. Youhave Fleetwood and Hatton who are very popular,
who both t six, so curiousto see what happens with the rest
(22:48):
of that. Indeed, do youthink that, not that it's like bad
to win at any time, butlike Rory winning the week before the Major,
is it like, well he wonlast week? Right? Is that?
What do you think about that?Well? You know, I think
he's he's playing great golf. SoI look at as a positive. I
really do. And it and itjust sets up NBC puts them on a
tee for their boy to be comingin off of a win. I mean,
(23:11):
it wasn't like last year for onehundred and fifty that's at the old
course where they wanted him to takeit down. He had won a month
earlier in Canada. Now he's gota he's hot off a one week he
comes in, you know Flint withthe with the Kashmere there was a hideous
Kashmere shirts that Nike makes for him. I mean, it's it's gonna be
just pure Rory for Dan Hicks. He's gonna have to wear a bib on
(23:33):
the weekend talking about Rory. Ifhe is in the mix, it's gonna
be unbelievable. Danielle, where dowe go with this now? I'm am
I wrong. I think we needHarry in the booth. I'd love to
be him. I would kick DanHicks out, bringing Mike Tarco and he
and I'll handle it. And FradFaxton of course we'll have him on the
(23:55):
seventeenth hole. Yeh's been brilliant. So I thought we were gonna get some
playof golf. We got some playoffgolf at the barber Saal, but I
thought we were going to get itin Scotland. But it wasn't to be
had. And uh, you knowit was he always loved seeing the shot.
It's like, all right, when'swhen's macatyre gonna go back out?
He's just in the he's in theclubhouse. Is he gonna go back And
(24:15):
you know that gets dissected. Everythinggets dissected when but you know, winning
it we talked about there's layers towinning and right and sinking the putt to
win is just such a better win. A win is a win. But
when you get the win, whenyou're in the clubhouse or on the practice
screen. It's just a different feelingaltogether. Right. It's like you could
see the emotion in Rory, youcould see their emotion in Winham Clark and
(24:37):
when when they do it out there, it just as a different type of
of win no doubt. He gotBrandon on the coyote hunt. He's like,
wait, can I see the coyote? He's holding my dog too?
Okay? Good? Like basically that'sgreat. Please is my dog in the
house? Where is he? Breakfasttime? Now, Danielle, we'll get
into the outing. But the Unipizza oven from PC Richard and Son,
(25:02):
did that go in the in theoverhead bin? Or where where is that?
Where is that getting weighed? Likenine hundred and three pounds? But
my friend, um, Liz,I don't know if you guys I had
a gallery out there. I waslike, yeah, you know, I
get to get all that. Myfriends come to follow me, but they
lived in Perkasy, so I sentit home with them. West actually was
like, hey, I get threecarry ons that can count as one.
(25:23):
I'll take it. He offered tobring it back. He's like, but
it's only making it to hope sound. You're gonna have to pick it up
and bring it. And I feltbad that would have been so much work
for him, so I just said, I said, you guys, hold
it for now, and Liz islike, we'll ship it or I'll make
you all the pizza you want whenyou come up here. And that was,
of course for the Long Drive, right, that's the Long Drive winner
or Danielle Matthews. Damn right, how about that we do have to talk
(25:47):
about So wait, we started onfive, so would have been is it
three? Yeah, that's the partthree, the Ireland trip. Yeah,
yeah, but I no, no, no no, she shipped in for
Bertie to get into a playoff.I chipped it. Yeah, Russ was
going around like he just won theopen. Russ was running around the green
(26:07):
apparently like Steph Curry after he sunkthat hole on one. Russ just had
a day. Yeah he sure did, he sure did. We'll get into
all that in a second, butI just want to talk about the barbars
all real quick, because it waswe talked about the playoff. Vincent Norman,
the twenty five year old Swedish rookieh takes to win in a playoff
over Nathan Kinsey for his first winand the interesting story. There's always stories,
(26:32):
right, and it's and his girlfriendFreda Kinholt I believe that's her name.
She gets a TE thirty six andthe LPGA then flies from Ohio just
to make it in time to seethat win. Pretty cool stuff, I
know. I was like, that'sthe only time they're tagging the wife.
And I had Lucas Glover of coursein the one and done, he makes
the cut and he's in he's ina position where he could have won the
(26:56):
tournament and watching him put down thestretch Moose, I don't know if you
picked up on this, but hejust looked he looked like standing over a
six foot put like he knew hewas going to miss it. Oh.
I mean, the scar tissue inthat guy's head is unbelievable. It's a
shame because he's really the rest ofhis game is really on point. Yeah,
we talked about Pendrith who gets asix, and Grayson Murray again who's
(27:18):
in the top ten and a TEseven. He's been up there weekend and
week out the past couple weeks. So you know, for the alternate event,
it really showed up and having aplayoff, and you know it was
great to watch. I was.I was kind of glued to that playoff
because there were some crazy shots, honestly, but you love to see it.
He loved to see the way theyhave to recover that Kimsey. That
was his first PGA Tour event ever. I mean, do you think about
(27:41):
that? Man? He's like, man, this is easy. I'm talking
a playoff. And it's funny toobecause like he's not like they talked about
him playing head to head against JTin a Walker Cup, so like he's
been out there, but he's onthe DP World Tour. Yeah. I
guess this, you know, becausethere was a combo event kind of thing
where they had a lot of DPWorld Tour players. So I guess that's
the only cross over that he's had. Yeah, yeah, no doubt about
(28:02):
it. And Steve Stricker, howabout him? How about to run the
heater he has been on. Yeah, he's the Tiger of the Champions Tour
right now, probably now he reallyis. He won his third major this
year. Of course, they've gotthe Open Championship, the Senior Open Championship
coming up, but he's won threeof the four. Bernhard Langer, of
course, knocked down, knocked downthe other one. But what a year
for Steve Stricker. Yeah, nodoubt about it. And you know,
(28:26):
let's talk about our our outing.Yeah, Fox Fox Sports of the Gambler,
Swing It and ding It open, benefiting the Magical Meala Foundation, the
Legacy Club. I can't tell you, guys the compliments that I've received,
and they are all deserved. Yeah. Everyone loved the place and it's not
even complete yet. Well it's notgonna be complete for a while. But
like the you know, the thingsthat were close were really close, but
(28:48):
we got to use the patio andall that, which was tremendous. Yeah,
it really shined, man, I'lltell you they when the golf course
shine. They got all that rain, you never would have known it.
I know we had to go cartpath only, but you know, my
buddies and I were out there remarkamlike, this place drained out really well.
I didn't you know. There wasn'twater and bunkers or anything like that.
It looked, it looked great,It played great, it played tough,
(29:08):
and it was just an all aroundjust fantastic day. The food was
outstanding as well. Oh yes,top to bottom was great. Started out
with uh, you know the Kibbet'sroom, dropping off that amazing lunch,
which you know, and then youknow the dinner that they put out,
Like my only conversations were let's justdo like casual like a barbecue or something
(29:30):
like that. That that was notthat, that was an elevated experience risk
it. I mean it was fantastic. I think I had a like three
plates. Yeah. Yeah, itwas tremendous, you know, and Randy
and Alex were both out there, you know, saying hi. Obviously you
know Frankie who does an incredible jobday and day out there, Keith and
Emily who I worked with the wholetime. Can't thank them enough. Um,
(29:52):
you know, it was fun toobecause the contest at the end,
right, there's so much we couldtalk about. But you know, I
also want to thank John Clark forcoming out and wearing that outfit, which
John Cruck talked about on the Philliesbroadcast last night. So we're trying to
find some footage, but having aCrucker out there was awesome. Aaron Sippos
was there, Mark Jackson, soa lot of fun. And everyone loves
(30:12):
Wes Patterson. I mean he doesnot disappoint. He gets out there and
he sends it and people really enjoyedhanging out with West on the course and
the DJ's DJ Reid Streets and NicoOh soo. We had the buckle Bunnies
from mcfinity Live. The Tito's barwas incredible all day long. I took
you a couple of those cups home. They keep the drink nice and cold,
(30:37):
man, that was my move duringthe day. I did two of
them. The Double Insulation, Yes, yeah, yeah, and it was
cool. It was podcast live thatday was a lot of fun. Right
to talk to Jessica and talking aboutthe foundation and all the work that they've
done and the money that we helpedraise was is awesome and gives us a
great purpose to continue to do this. M Andrew Factor joined us, and
(30:59):
I believe he's looking for a regularslot on the program. We'll say about
there were negotiations. Well, thecigar rolling that was a big hit too.
It was they were great, theywere they were really good. And
how about Sean Brace on the micfor the contest at the end, and
I understand that you were feeding himall the information. It was like a
relay Sister Daniel, Yeah yeah,Mooses up here like telling him who it
(31:21):
is and tell what you say.And then yeah that that man has never
met a microphone. He does notlike. And uh it was funny.
He dje our wedding and we hadmultiple musician right We had my buddy Durham
playing, We had a fitzius ofviolinists and right before it, I go
to Sewan, I go, hey, buddy, I love you man,
(31:42):
thank you for doing this. Let'slet the music do the talking tonight,
all right, very limited mic work, and he's staring. He's staring back
at me. I'm like, no, I'm not saying every now and then,
but let's not beyond the mic thewhole night. Let's just let the
music be the sounds, let itbreathing. Didn't self control, or didn't
until about until about three hours in, and then he was, you know,
(32:04):
turned into the Philly fanatic as hedoes. How sharp was Rabini?
Oh yeah, I mean, dude, he is. If he doesn't make
you want to buy a suit,I know. And now Russ hard Tongue
is gonna get a suit tailored forhim. He's like, I have nine
weddings this upcoming this year. He'slike, I am so excited. That's
awesome. Russ was Russ was ourprevailing playoff long drive the Doctor Glout long
(32:30):
Drive finale, and there were threeguys. They all went o B with
their first two balls, which wasit's a tough hole. It's not a
straight hole. You know, ifyou hit any kind of shape on fourteen
you're in trouble. I's where wehad Wes Patterson hitting the long drives.
But he prevailed. Man, hehe got the win and he was pretty
pumped. And he gets the dormyworkshop head cover that says twenty twenty three
(32:50):
long drive champ on it. Hecould stick that on his bag for the
rest of the year. So somuch fun out there, and I can't
thank everyone who came, sponsored, donated, supported it. There's too many
people to think and I know I'mmissing people, but thank you all.
That's all. I saw Shane Dolanout there from the nineteen twelve club.
He was actually in the long drivecontest. He was one of the LEFTI
I think teed off first and putit put it in the right rough,
(33:14):
which is a very common spot onthat hole. And then we see a
really good player here. Yeah,he's he's a good player. He's sub
five because there were some questions abouttheir score and I'm like, no,
noh, is that right? Yeah, well they're whoever is the lead.
Everyone in the field always goes, well, I'll come on. Yeah,
Well because they played better than you, that's why, right, right,
because you stink and I stink.I think Greeny I actually booked a chiropractor
(33:36):
a point for Greeny for carrying back. Yeah, he had carried our team.
Uh, myself and Brian Dow werespraying it all over the chorus.
Joe Colton actually hit some good shots, but Greeny, he was on fire.
He kept the fact that we weretwo under was a miracle and it
was all because of his play.So yeah, well, the format having
to use two of each person's drive, we were like we had an advantage
(33:58):
heading from the women's teas, sowe used two of mine, like two
of Russ's and two of Teddy's rightaway. But Gabbys had a game similar
to yours, moose, and shejust couldn't it was left right or it
was just like chugged, and soit came down to it, We're like,
all right, we're gonna have tojust do something, just find the
fairway. Gabby like figure it out. So it was fun. I love
(34:19):
the format, I love the dayit was. We just had a blast.
Teddy hid into us moose on theninth hole. We're in the middle
of the fairway about I don't knoweighty. No. We were proud of
it. You can't really see downthat hill, right ye see anything?
Yeah, we were like one ohfive out. I remember because right in
the middle of fair went all ofa sudden, I could hear this ball
hit behind and I look over tomy writing here's this ball coming up and
(34:42):
I'm like, yo, I'm upthere waving. It was Teddy. He's
a pretty good Yeah. I hithim with a WTF or what well?
He was back and then I'm like, oh my god, we're sorry.
And then we get up there andthen we got hit into. I think,
like that whole Maybe we just puta there next year. Yeah,
yeah, I think it or notto the excitement, you know. Yeah,
(35:05):
I was like, that was Harryup there. I was like,
oh, Harry, we're sorry. And it's funny because my idea for the
pizza hut two man chipping putt itcame from playing into Green Valley member guests
where they do that and people loveit, um and Mike, you see
that just popped up? Sorry anyold message there, Yeah, yeah,
that's this audio only. But um, the the pizza hut two man chipping
(35:29):
putt, which which in the end, I mean, there were some really
great shots, um, and therewere some really good putts and and and
the team that was closest, you'relike, probably was about a five five
and a half footer, but theTalarida's Dave Talarita, little Michael Talaria.
Dave said it was that was theonly clutch putt he's ever hit in his
life. But he sinks it,and then the rest of the guys that
were closer, like lipped out.It was such such great drama on the
(35:52):
eighteenth. And they got the tripright, Yeah, each get each get
a trip for two to Costa theCampo. And we had Ben York with
us talking about his experience who wonthe early Bird, and we're gonna do
that again. We're gonna I mightopen up registration like soon for next year
because there were about fifty to seventyfive people that were on the outside looking
in and we want to be ableto and that to me, that's the
(36:13):
good number. We were at oneoh eight. That's a lot of golfers.
You wouldn't want to anywhere than that. I think they have to start
renting carts. Um. But youknow, it was great to have all
of our incredible sponsors involved and tobe able to do some of the activations.
The Angelo's pizza hit the spot.Have you ever? Have you ever
aimed at an inflatable slice of pizzaon a golf course? How are your
Daniel? No, but my buddythat I was playing with, one of
(36:35):
my college buddies, won that.He came out into just a couple of
feet of it in the middle ofthe fair way. But yeah, that's
so that was cool. He gotwhat a dinner or lunch for four at
Angelo's plus a foursome at the LegacyClub. Yeah, that's a great And
if you know anything about Angelo's,you know that's that's that's a value.
Being able to go upstairs and eatthere and skip that crazy line that is
(36:58):
that is a major value. Danberg. How but he got five, no,
seven, seven inches for the Harrah'sshot in the dark, the one
where Mike Powers had a bit oftrouble on that tea box on that same
hole. Um, but yeah,he got there. Yeah, that's a
tough hole to come close to getthat ball to stay on the green.
So yeah, there were some reallygood shots and you know, the contests
(37:19):
were a lot of fun. UmAlejandro Alvarez, who was a member at
the Legacy Club, he was theguy who had the chance for the sixty
foot put from clear path financial umactually took a really good run at it.
But that is that that is atough but he did good, good
pace, you know, just afoot sort so a lot to think about
for next year, a lot ofgood to take away. Um, some
(37:43):
improvements that could be made, somethings that could be at it, but
all around, I mean rave reviews, and I think it all starts with
the host location. I mean thoseguys John DeMarco and his team, Like
I've I've done these events and similarevents, and you kind of do it
on your own, right, youput out your state like they had everything
done. When when the tournament wasover, they handed me two sheets of
paper. It had every contest wehad with who won it and all of
(38:05):
the finishers from golf genius like thatmade it's so easy, like you know,
because I had all the prizes youknow out my wife actually was played
Van and White and helped me.She was like, didn't even tell me
I was doing this. This isvery unorganized. She was not happy.
It seemed very organized, but she'sgood. She jumped right in and figured
it out like she always does andhanded out some great prizes to the folks
and the Dormany Workshop made a reallycool magical meal a headcover for Dan that
(38:29):
we gave to him, which wasreally really cool to be able to present
him with that. So so muchfun, so much fun. And stay
tuned for some of the recap videosthat'll be coming out. We had a
lot of guys out there getting somefootage, maybe some bloopers, maybe some
you know. At one point, the drone was like hovering ten feet in
front of me. I'm over theball. I'm like, okay, this
(38:49):
is fine. Hit and driver andliterally like as I'm taking it back,
the one guy that was watching uswas like, but don't hit the drone
and I'm like, I'm like pool, I'm like, so that's would be
a nice little bloomer for Yeah, yeah, no doubt about it. Yeah,
but I'm trying to see if Imissed anything. I don't think so.
Yeah. The Shelton Bloomfield team orthe winners. They were nine they
(39:12):
were nine under, right, butI mean most guys, it was set.
It was nine seven five. Ithink five was where the cut off
for the playoff was. So longtime listeners those guys too, oh yeah.
I mean they've been with us forprobably from the start. They support
us, they they listen. Imean, those guys were fantastic. Hey,
I get you something to drink like. They were awesome. They always
are and a lot of fun tobe around. I think, um that
(39:34):
stick, yeah, yeah, stick, no doubt about it. Yeah,
a lot of fun, a lotof fun. There was a last place
team. I'm not going to shoutthem out on the podcast. There was
actually four teams tied for the lastbut I picked the ones that I knew
I could make fun of the most. Basically, all right, fine,
it was Mario Russo, Jake mccannon, Mark Clowers. They congrats, guys,
what I don't even know. Ithink it was over. They were
(39:59):
over, yeah, I think sooh wow, okay, yeah, well
that's right, that's right. Hecan that's sick or something. I think,
yeah, yeah, But tremendous dayall the Green Valley guys that came
out right with Factor and Siegel andNate and Greeny and all those guys.
Um always supporting, so tremendous, tremendous stuff. But let's take a quick
(40:20):
break and we will come back andgive a preview of the Open champion.
All right, welcome back. Alot of fun talking about the audience.
Sure, we're gonna be talking aboutthat for the next couple of weeks as
we continue to get some footage andstuff in and you know some of the
other activations we talked about. Butyou know, having that Chevy Silverado out
there from Mall Chevy. Um,a couple of guys actually got really close
to that to getting that to winout for the hole in one. Yeah,
(40:43):
and the trip for Ireland from AllAccess someone came really close to that
too. Um. But yeah, having that Mall Chevy out there was awesome
and we thanked them for their support. Harry. Yeah, that thirteenth hole,
that's a tough that's a tough hole. But for eight years in a
row now, Mall Chevrolet, they'vebeen the South Jersey's number one Chevy dealer.
Now it could be because you know, they treat their customers just right.
That's why they were voted a topone hundred dealer in the entire country
(41:06):
for customer satisfaction. But I stillthink it's because of that great motto.
We sell Chevies for less. It'sthat simple. Find your perfect drive at
maul Chevallet. Visit maul Chevallet onHaddonfield Road in Cherry Hill right across from
the Cherry Hill Mall, or visitthem online at mal Chevy dot com and
find your perfect drive. All right, So again, we have two events
this week. We have the Barracudawhere Danielle is live on site with a
(41:32):
pretty cool modified stable Ford format.Right, so you have to get rewarded
for Birdie's that's the thing, andyou get punished for Bogie's. Pretty interesting
format. I think that's gonna befun to watch. Yeah, Eagle,
you get four points, so Iknow Brandon's gonna be with that altitude.
He's gonna be swinging for Eagles Thursdayand Friday and hopefully throughout the weekend because
(41:53):
you get four points if you ifyou bag an eagle, Birdie is three
par is two and then if youhit up make a Bogie minus one or
a double bogie minus three. Wait, you know what, how the point
structure on the PGA Tour website saysbirdie is two points, part is zero,
bogie is minus one. Huh ohis that right? Yeah? Okay,
(42:15):
so they're not given anything up fora par all right, No,
it's saying par Is zero, okay, bogie is minus one, double bogie
or more is minus three three yeahokay. But and a double eagles eight
points harre in case you got oneof those in double eagle yeah, yeah,
one of those laying around. Butyou know, some guys do jump
(42:36):
out of me at this. Ithink, if you know, if you
play some aggressive players and some guysthat are that are birdie hunters. I'm
sticking with Grayson Marriage not a badnumber. Fifty five hundred as we kind
of see the line for with DraftKingsfor this and then we'll really see the
line for the Open Championship. Um, Sam Bennett is another guy's jumping out
at me. Um and su justinsuh Harry. Yeah, so at three
(42:57):
thousand, yeah, I do Ilike him in this. Keith Mitchell,
you know that number. I'm notquite sure, but I'll keep an eye
on that. But um, yougotta go for the aggressive guys that hit
birdies in this tournament, Yeah,no doubt about it. And the favorite
is Stephen Jaeger, the German atplus fourteen hundred right now on Draft Kings.
He's probably gonna be my one anddone player. I'm looking at bow
(43:19):
Hostler at plus two eighty in atop ten. I'm gonna stick stay away
from Kashmere Keith, although I likehim. He's one of my favorite players,
but I'm gonna stay away from him. How about you know Peter Quest
missed the cut last week. Youknow he's been playing really well plus four
hundred in the top ten, andI like this Hubbard guy. What's Mark?
(43:42):
Mark? Hubbard is actually the secondfavorite. Might want to throw something
in there at plus eighteen hundred towin it. Daniel Less the play.
We're gonna have any weather issues outthere this weekend? Oh man, it
looks nice. There's like zero Ijust I literally had a blanket on me
the whole time, and now it'slike getting cold, but it's probably like
fifties in the morning and then itgets to like eighty five during the day.
But literally zero percent chance of rainsounds perfect. What are the guys
(44:07):
saying about this format. Are theyexcited to play in something like this a
little bit different from your average weekendweek out event. Honestly, I haven't
even talked about it. Like Iknow, we went out to we all
went out to dinner last night, but I have still have no voice left
from the outing, so I've beenrather quiet. I don't blame at all
any outing. There were some otheractivities the weekend leading into the adding.
(44:28):
All right, we're not going totake all the blame here. Quarter of
Yeah, there was some pregaming goingon on Saturday and Sunday. We had,
we had a good Philly weekend leadinginto it. Yeah, Honestly,
they haven't talked about it, butI'm interested to see what they say tonight.
When we get a chance. Ithink we might go to Lake Tahoe
and see what happens. Nice.Nice, But on the other side of
(44:50):
the world, the Open Championship, you have one hundred and fifty six golfers
cut to seventy plus ties. Allof the top ten are in obviously camp
Smith defending all of the winners fromseven teen to twenty one, Speif Mulinowry,
Lowry, Marrikawa over at Royal Liverpool, UM It's an interesting one to
kind of look at. Right, you have Rory's O nine Open Championship win
(45:10):
to to think about fourteen of theseventeen winners had a ten nine or better
the previous year. So this isthe major? Is that really? Always?
Kind of is that way? It'svery rare for a long shot to
it was rare for Wyndham Clark atthat point. I think a lot of
people overlooked him but really excited tosee this one. Um. You know
Scheffler, we talked about. Thelast time he finished worse than than T
(45:31):
twelve was in October. Um,how about can't Lay the only player to
finish in the top fifteen in eachof his last five majors. He's never
been more than five shots off thelead in the final round in those.
So he's playing might have to fadeBrooks, he might be I don't know.
(45:52):
I don't know. I think Ican't leg a little bit more intimidating,
Yes, I don't know. Can'tLay seems like the guy just doesn't
care. He doesn't even the guythat doesn't get intimidated, like just yeah,
keeps doing what he's doing. Butuh, yeah, I'm really looking
forward to this when Harry, whatare you thinking about? Yeah, you
talked about Scheffler. Uh, wetalked about since October, since he's been
(46:13):
out of the top twelve, hehas seven straight top fives, eighteen straight
top twelves. I mean, justjust think about that. It's just and
even it's if he's if he's putting, imagine if he putted well, you
know, because that that's always seemsand he says it's overrated. How you
know his putting is not so good. He's said that's a media narrative,
and I kind of agree with himsomewhat. But imagine if he did have
(46:37):
a big week putting, he blowthe field away. You know, I
don't I don't know that anybody couldeven Rory could hang with him. If
Scottie Scheffler could putt, if TommyFleetwood coming in with three straight top sixes,
is gonna be obviously a local favorite. And I'm invested in him through
my buddy who I played with atthe outing, who actually cashed out for
nine grand on Robert McIntyre during theWorth round. Wow, Yes, he
(47:01):
would have won eighteen grand if McIntyrewould have won the tournament on a two
hundred dollars bet. They offered hima cash out at nine grand and he
took it, So that's that's prettyincredible. But Tirell Hatton one miss smart
gambling, Yes, one miss cutfor Terrell Hatton in the last year,
and it includes eight top tens.Another guy you might want to might want
(47:24):
to look at for at least atop ten, playing really well. Right
now, I'm gonna go with acouple of matchups. Fleetwood over Lowry uh
Tigala over Louie oos Stays. Andif you go back and look at what
Louis oos Stays and has done sincehe went to live, it's absolutely nothing.
I think he's got nothing. Hetook the money and knows it.
(47:45):
He doesn't He's just on his farm, working the farm, and he doesn't
get way. Too many people arepicking him high this week. I'm I
don't see. I don't see.I really don't. McIntyre over JT and
Brian Harmon has been playing really well, plays links golf very well. I'm
gonna take him over Keegan Bradley, who really hasn't had a great history on
the links. A couple of longshots. Min wou Lee plus seven thousand
(48:10):
he of course won the Scottish Opena few years ago, can play Links
Golf mcintires plus eight thousand moose comingoff a last week. I find that
to be remarkable. And Jason Dayplus eleven thousand, nobody's talking about him.
He has a win this season playswell on the Links. Scheffler.
If everybody's taken Scheffler in a topten and they're laying money, they're laying
(48:32):
one forty in a top ten,I'll go top five and give me plus
money at plus one fifty and TyrrellHatton plus two sixty in the top ten.
I like it. I like it. As we continue to see the
line here with Draft Kings sports Bookfrom Ta Green, the best place to
go to get into all the actionhappening on the Links is Draft Kings sports

taking right this is at top ofthe board. Kind of kind of tournament
for me. Victor Hovlan at twentytwo hundred and lowry I like love his
(49:16):
short game and putting to maybe getanother Clard Jog at four thousand and An
interesting one for me anyway is PatrickHarrington in a top twenty at plus four
hundred. He knows how to playthese courses and I think he will do
a good job. So download theDraftking sports book at now, use the

jump out of the gate. Um. Yeah, I'm definitely fading boost ays
in for sure. Uh. AndI do like the Fleetwood and Hattans.
I think it could be one ofthose guys that takes this home. It
(50:20):
depends on maybe if you want towait a day and see you know where
they are and see where there's numbersland to take them because it's it's tough.
I think this is a for me. This is like a day two
was where I dig in after tosee who really is is acclimated to this
course. The weather hair, itdoesn't seem to be it's gonna be a
major factor. He's gonna move itup because of wind. Again, No,
I don't think the wind's gonna bepretty pretty light. Considering where where
(50:42):
they're playing. They're gonna get raineach day, it looks like, but
the winds don't look to be toobad. It's all about pot bunker avoidance
and how about that internal out ofbounds. We're gonna hear a lot about
that this week. On that eighteenthhole as that kind of dog legs to
the right, super long hole. But this seventeenth hole that they redesigned it
used to be the fifteenth for partthree in the opposite direction one hundred and
(51:06):
thirty six yards facing the d estuary. And if they get any kind of
wind, that is the amount ofa land that you had to land it
on the green to keep it onthe green is very small. And then
bunkers are just super penal on thatwhole. It should be great drama coming
down the stretch. Oh yeah, and keep an eye on Facts is Social
this week. I posted something yesterday. Just got a new video and of
(51:30):
him on fifteen showing the pop bunkersas well, So we'll have some nice
side there, very nice, Danielle. Are you in for the Draft Kings
Fantasy contest this week? I amnot yet, and hopefully I didn't get
locked out. I will. There'sstill like ten spots left. I gotta
get in that too as soon aswe here. I will get that because
our last one I got, Igot locked out. I didn't do it
(51:53):
until and a couple other of ourfans on Twitter too, they're like,
open it back up, Well, thank you guys, I appreciate all the
support and help with the outing forbeing there, Danielle, thank you for
coming in for that. That wasThat was tremendous a lot of fun.
And thanks to our buddy Mike Powersfor getting us actually video and make sure
you get onto the Fox Sports tothe Gambler's YouTube page subscribe. You know,
(52:16):
