(00:25):
swing and ding it. Yeah, you know. Just this is gonna go
out there and trying to swing itand dang it. All right, Hello
and welcome to swing it and DingIt and iHeart media podcast. This is
Moose along with Harry May's and DanielMatthews will be joining us soon. We
are presented by Draft King sports Bookand driven by our friends at Maul Chevrolet.
And we are joined by a gentlemannamed Jack Hirsch, part of the
(00:47):
editing team at Golf or maybe yousay golf dot Com or maybe you say
Golf magazine. Harry, I don'tyou know, We don't know. We
just it's just it's golf. It'sgolf. Yeah. But the good thing
is we got some local roots heretoo, So we love when people work
in the game but know the area, play the area. Jack. Welcome
to swing it and ding it man. Hey, thanks for having me.
Yeah, I appreciate it. Sogive us a little bit of your your
(01:10):
background, your start from in thearea, coaching, playing, all that
stuff. Oh gosh, well, how far do you want to? I
was was your whole journey? Soso I guess Philly stories start my My
family moved here when I was inseventh grade, so I've been in the
area ever since. We lived inlaw Mary and I played golf at Hartton
High School and then I went tocollege. I went to Penn State,
(01:36):
so basically basically Philly, you know, three hours away, and I studied
broadcast journalism, political science, hada sports journalism certificate in there as well.
And then I actually went out toBend, Oregon for two years out
of school, where I was amulti media journalist for an end be seeing
(02:00):
Fox affiliate out there also, Soby the time I left there, two
days a week I was reporting inthe field, not necessarily sports focus,
but I tried, as you know, we didn't have a sports staff,
so I tried as hard as Icould when I found sports sports stories to
do them. I was in lineactually to do our Friday night football show
(02:23):
before I had I left early thereand so I was there. By the
time I left there, I wasdoing two days a week reporting. Saturdays,
I did the weather, Sundays Ianchored the news and the evening news,
and Wednesdays I produced the four andfive o'clock newscasts, so all different
(02:46):
hats there, and then got anopportunity at Golf Magazine. Last August is
when I started. And let memove back here. This is where my
family is. I'm in the Mannineighbor how to Philadelphia right now. It's
halfway in between the city and wheremy folks live up in Bluebell and also
(03:07):
right near our golf course where Iplay at the Philadelphia Cricket Club. Uh.
And then actually just this last month, I started coaching again at Harrett
and High School. So well,I coached last year as an assistant and
now I'm now on the head coach, which is really really fun. But
yeah, I think that's the That'sthat's all you That's all we need to
(03:29):
know. That's perfect. If youwere in Bend, Oregon, I don't
know the geography that well, butdid you evers from Bandon Dune? Okay,
that's what I did you ever getout there and play the other thing
you need to know is that whenyou go to Bandon, dudes, and
you fly directly, like as closeas you can, like, don't go
to Eugene or Portland. You goto North Bend or KU's Bay Airport that
(03:52):
is south of Bend. So it'sreally confusing. North Bend, Oregon is
south of Bend, Oregon. Andthe other thing you need to know is
I did play in uh the OreganAmateur at Bannon Trails. Wow, that
was that was really really cool?Is it everything they say it is?
It is every you know. AndI only got to play the one course
(04:14):
and I played the Preserve the morningof my first round, which actually was
a great which was a great experience. I love short courses part three courses
you name, and I love that. Uh you know, the Cricket Club
has a tremendous short course in thesame Martin's course, but so and I
like it had the same greens asBannon Trails. So it was a great
move to play the thirteen. Partthree is before going out and playing Banded
(04:35):
Trails. It was everything and more. It was golf's mecca. It's really
you know, Scotland is the onlything that can really compare to it.
Wow, definitely, Sarah Moose Oh, no doubt. Oh yeah, that's
that's way at the top of thelist to talk to us about about I
need them to invite me. Ineed them to invite me back because I
(04:58):
need to play the other five courses. I actually, David McClay kidd lives
in in Bend and I got toknow him, and you know, he's
now designing another course there. Soyou know, lots lots of stuff happening
there, tremendous. I want Iwant to talk to you about coaching too,
because I find it very interesting coachingin golf. But talk to us
about Golf Golf magazine. I mean, obviously some really good contributors there.
(05:21):
We follow, you know, Dylanand James. Obviously the John Ram interview
last week was fantastic, But justtalk about what it's like, you know,
was that like kind of a dreamfor you to get into the into
the world of golf that you know, with your background and with some of
the things you love about working there. Yeah. So one thing, one
thing I should say that I probablymissed in my background, my dad's in
(05:42):
the golf business. My dad isa real estate appraiser for golf courses.
It's a very very unique niche thing. And he runs runs his shot out
of Conch Hocking And so golf hasalways been the family business. You know,
I don't hey very often to playgolf. Uh. That's that's the
(06:03):
that's the thing I like to say. Uh. So, yeah, golf
was all you know, it wasalways my dream to cover golf. Would
I like to be doing it ontelevision one day? Yeah? Probably,
I think. I think being oncamera is something I really enjoy. But
my biggest thing is I love tellingpeople what's happening and uh and storytelling,
(06:26):
you know, that was that waswhat I really came to love. That's
why I did what I did fortwo years out in Oregon and what I
did towards the tail end of mycollege career. So being able to do
it and have this big of aplatform has has been a dream. Yeah,
a dream come true. And youknow, you know, obviously some
(06:46):
of my colleagues started there right outof college, some of them, you
know, in the case of DylanChairs, straight out of playing professional golf.
Uh. But yeah, it's it'sa place I really enjoy. I
mean, it's the place I youknow, had a little bit of a
you know, I came from asituation where you know, I was one
of the top guys at my newsstation, and and you know, it's
(07:10):
given me a situation where you know, I didn't write regularly for so long.
It gave me a little bit ofimposter syndrome when I came back and
uh to writing and and and intothe golf space. You know these you
know, you know, we havea very young staff, but we have
a tremendous staff who are all supersuper talented at what they do. And
(07:32):
yeah, it's it's just great tolearn from these guys. Well, I'm
speaking of telling stories. Uh,in your view, what is the best
story from twenty twenty three on thePGA Tour, on the PGA Tour,
Yeah, or in golf. Wecould do PGA Tour and then we could
just do golf. Okay, Well, I'll tell you the best story when
(07:54):
we get to that. I'll tellyou the best story you know I've I've
done, but the best story onthe PGA Tour. Wow, you caught
me off guard. I shouldn't Ishould we're you know, we're a week
out of the Tour champions Well,I mean, you know, we're coming
out of all this lived stuff andyou know, this strife and everything.
I'm taking that and I'm putting that. Okay, okay, but it just
(08:18):
golf stories like Ricky Fowler one again, Jason Day one again. Ricky Fowler
is a great one. I knowthere are better. I know there are
better ones than that. Wyndham Clark'sreally good. I know, I know
he's not exactly the sexiest pick, but his kind of story has been really
good. My wife thinks he's sexy. It's uh, there's you know,
(08:41):
there's a little bit of you know, this is a little soft spot in
my heart for him because he's anyou know, he went to Oregon for
years. I feel like there's somethingthat I gotta go back and look at.
And then I'm just well, let'sgo to the Ryder Cup because that's
the story now, all right, and because that's what we're in, that's
(09:01):
that's the time win. And youknow, the European team was finalized.
And I'm telling you right now,Keegan Bradley should relax because Adrian Moran got
screw closed. Yes, I meanwin at the Irish Open last July,
win at the Australian Open in December, wins the Italian Open this year the
(09:22):
golf course where they're playing, yes, and then a second and another event
there five top five, top tens, fifth in European Ryer Cup standings,
and again he won at the golfcourse that they're playing. How in the
name of God? And it wasn'tlike there were all of these senior players
that you had to have on theteam, you know, the captain went
with younger guys. I mean, and you know some of the some of
(09:45):
the press conference stuff came out today, he's feeling it, like he's not
just like, oh, you know, he's he's pissed and I have to
I have to fade him this week, by the way, because I think
you are, because it's like heto me, it's like why should I
win? Right? Like what,Okay, it doesn't help me anyway.
I think he's gonna try to geta live invitation. Now. I think
that's maybe maybe. But Jack,I mean, obviously a ton of ton
(10:07):
of talk about you know, itwas all focused around JT let's face it
and Brooks making a team from live. But I feel like there was a
little bit more controversy maybe because we'recloser to it. But give us your
thoughts on both teams and how itall played out. Well, okay,
so I want to you bring upwrong. I want to I want to
play Devil's advocate and say, whodo you not take? I think Ludbig
(10:31):
like, hey, you're a youngkid, you haven't played in the Major.
You get your shot. It's notthis year. But that's as simple
as that. For me, Iwould have taken him over hoy Guard.
See. I think the hoy Guardargument is a little bit easier because obviously,
now again we have two weeks untilthe Ryder Cup. But Amberg's hot,
yeah, really a stud and youand you know, I can't tell
(10:58):
you too much about Adrian wrongs game. I haven't watched him play very much.
And that's you know, that's alot of the problem when you have
some of these guys, you know, for for the American press, when
you have some of these guys onthe European team who don't play often in
the States. I just haven't seenvery much of him, and I you
know, and you know, Icould probably go look up at the data
(11:18):
golf rundowns on him. But totell you what we've seen Ludvig aber Abert
and we know he is well actuallysince I think since he came on tour,
he's the best driver of the golfball the g eight Tour. When
you have a format like the RyderCup, when there's going to be alternate
(11:39):
shot and you can kind of usecertain guys' strengths to your advantage, it
kind of pays to have guys whoare really strong in certain areas helped balance
out maybe other players who in thoseformats who are We saw it last year
at the President's Cup with you knowhow they rerouted quail Hollow and all of
(12:01):
the par threes were evens, wereeven number twole, So Colin Morikawa could
hit the t shots on every parthree and basically didn't have to put the
entire you know, all the timeshe had he played an alternate shot.
Yeah, you know, you havethe greatest ball striker on the planet,
use that to your advantage. SoI think that if there was no alternate
(12:24):
shot, and if there was nofoursomes in the Rider Cup, maybe I
think there would have been a muchtougher to well. I'm sure it was
a really tough decision for Luke Donald. But let's hear your point too,
Jack, Like, we don't knowthe personalities, right, this guy could
be the worst guy in the lockerroom. I don't want to put that
out there because you might be thebest guy in the locker room, but
we don't get to see it enoughto know, like some people might not
(12:45):
want to play with it. It'sa knock on the Polish people. This
is Polish discrimination its finest. You'regoing that way. And then so let's
talk about the boys club with theAmerican Rider Cup. Yeah, and you
know, Fred Couples basically goes outon his show and says, basically says,
there's no boys club. Here's whata boys club would look like though,
(13:09):
and it's exactly what what his youknow, it's exactly Young would make
the team, which he didn't,right, And there's there's a fantastic article
Golf Magazine written by an up andcoming Great Golf contributor saying, awkward Cam
Young snub from the US Ryder Cupteam. Despite Fred couples assurance to make
sure you go check out Jack's workand see what he has to say in
(13:31):
the four that was that was thatwas bizarre, that crazy Couples was even
naming guys on the Ryder Cup.Yeah, especially Cam Young only started playing,
well, you know, a coupleof weeks ago. I guess.
I guess that probably did come outright right after the Open Ship Fred.
Fred's like that Jiggalow uncle you havethat like still goes out in parties and
likes that's crazy. Say, youknow, that was strange, very surprised
(13:54):
he would make a mistake like that. Yeah, you know, that's just
it's it's awkward, no other wayto put it. And you know what,
I simply at the end of theday, though, Justin Thomas is
not playing great golf right now, what if I you know, I don't
think you can you can give aplayer like him who has played really poorly,
(14:16):
missed the cut in three out offour majors, I can't. I
don't see how you can give himthe benefit of the doubt. I know
he's got an outstanding record in teammatch plus sixteen five and two and President's
Cups and Ryder Cups combined. Ibelieve that's the best since he since his
first met Yeah, correctly, Ijust don't I don't care if if you
(14:41):
know, maybe he just missed onthe on East Lake, or maybe just
missed out on making the BMW Championship. That's one, but he missed the
playoffs completely. He he didn't.He made the cut in one major and
finished year last. It's just like, okay, he's it's clearly not his
year. He's clearly fighting something, you know, but he has a month
(15:05):
to find it, you know whatI mean? And these and I posted
I posted it on our on ourInstagram last night. He had to be
trolling us with that video, rightwith all the devices in the pool noodles.
Yeah, there's no way that thatwas legit, and he was just
actually doing that. I think hewas messing with all of us. And
half the people took it because itwas like it was insane. I don't
(15:26):
know, I've seen some funky thingswith golf instruction, and then I know
it's obviously a great in you bustthat out for the high school team.
I don't, I have him,I don't. I don't mess with their
swings. I don't mess with Iwas going to ask you that too.
That was kind of like what Iwanted to get back to. Because I
have them for two months, wecan get to that But here's the thing
though, like we all know likea lot about you know, playing well
(15:48):
and golf is playing with people thatyou like to play with. That has
a lot to do with it atleast, and I think it works at
their level too. So Scottie Schefflerdefinitely wanted Sam Burns on that on that
team because he loves to play golfwith him. Justin or George Speth was
gonna be on that team. Heloves to play with Justin Thomas. There's
(16:10):
no better person to pair those, right, those two and Rory McElroy loves
to play with Shane Lowry. Hedoesn't like like they're a they're a combo.
So I think that Shane Lowry thing, though he hasn't played all that
will since he won the the OpenChampionship. I think he won the UH
the BMWPGA a year or two ago, but outside of that, he really
(16:33):
hasn't done a whole lot. Buteverybody likes him. Yeah, So it's
like it's like Bronc and Keegan Bradleyare guys where you're just like, I
don't want to play with him.I think that's really what it comes down
to. I think you're right It'sbe interesting if Xander Schaffle was in speech
position and Patrick Kantley was in uhyeah, yeah, I don't think.
(17:00):
I don't think gets in. No, I think I think he does.
I think Alexander like it's like Iwant to play that guy. I don't.
But I don't see Xander as aguy that has pulls that much weight
yet. Well yeah, man,he doesn't have that personalities, it doesn't
seem like he has that. Yeah, but but there. But what I'm
getting at is that can't le can'tLey and Shaffley are like Speet and Thomas,
(17:22):
right, yeah, no doubt aboutit. It's like me and Moose,
Yeah yeah, yeah, me andGreeny this week and my member the
Legacy Club. I had a littleI had a little emergency nine warm up.
Today things come together. I'm overcookingthe draw a lot, but I
think I'm that's easier than to fixI think, than than something else.
(17:44):
I just got to dial it in. Well do you have to fix it
or can you play it? Justplay it? I can play it,
but it's it's it's you know, thirty yard draw. It should be so.
I had this the other day Iwas playing with with a friend of
mine. This was like a coupleof weeks ago before I had a couple
of qualifier has come up, andyou know, the first eleven holes,
I couldn't get the ball to turnover, couldn't get the ball to turnover,
couldn't get the ball to crazy something. And we're playing the Militia Hill of
(18:10):
course at cricket. If you guysknow it, there's out of bounds all
that on the left side and Iusually try and hit it at these double
trees, turn it back towards uh, you know, it's way out.
You got to hit a bad shotto hit it out there. And I
hit the shot starts in the middleof faraway and just go last and I
say, will I totally just foundit there. And then and there's there's
(18:33):
uh you know, five more partfour, part fours or part fives on
and and every t shop was justjust perfect. You know, it's amazing,
amazing when you find that hit snaphooked to figure it out. Yeah,
So I want to go back toto the coaching part because I think
it's incredibly interesting and challenging. Iwant to stop. Because Harry asked me
(18:56):
what my favorite thing, my favoritestory from golf here and I want to
share that quickly, please please,I got a really great opportunity to spend
some time to interview and then spendsome time with ahead of the KPMG Women's
PGA with Gabby Ruffles. I'm notsure if you're familiar with the story,
but Gabby Ruffles was the two thousandnine US Women's Am champion. She was
(19:19):
the runner up to Rosang in twentytwenty. Turned pro in twenty twenty one
after a pretty good career at uscUH And this was all after picking up
the game at fifteen. Seriously, like picked up the game at fifteen before
she turned sixteen, she was playingin the Australian Women's Amateur Junior Amateur sorry,
(19:42):
Junior Amateur h and shooting like seventyfive six months later after picking up
the games, she's a natural insaneathlete. Plays on the EPSOM Tour in
twenty twenty two. You know,it's really hard to get your your pl
PGA tourscard, you know, ina half season out of college in twenty
(20:04):
twenty two, she's playing on theEPSOM Tour. Finishes like five thousand dollars
out of getting her card. Acouple of weeks later, or maybe like
a week later, after the EPsand Tour Championship, she goes up to
Alabama. She lives in Orlando. She goes up in Alabama to play a
practice round for the Q School LPGAq SC Series, which is eight rounds
(20:26):
crazy event. You play four roundsof one golf course, saying four rounds
in another golf course this week, just absolutely insane. But there's a ton
of LPGA Tour cards available at it. And she looks at her phone and
saw that she wasn't signed up.The deadline was three weeks before and she
(20:47):
was not signed up for for QSeries. So she drives back to Orlando.
It's like whatever. So she's backon the EPSOM Tour the next year.
She wins in her second start. She wins again a couple starts later,
and she just so then she qualified, She got an exemption into the
(21:08):
KPMG, She qualified for the USWomen's Open, and just a couple a
week or two ago or three weeksago, she just won for the third
time. There's no three win promotionon the EPSOM Tour, but she has
mathematically clinched her LPGA before and nowshe's she seems like she's getting sponsor invites
(21:32):
into all the LPGA Tour events anddoing quite well. It's just tremendous,
crazy really turn of events. She'sjust the talking to her and listening to
her mindset, especially for someone who'sso new to golf. You know,
she's only been playing golf for aboutseven eight years. And to just listen
to how she thinks through you know, some serious adversity, she's I just
(21:56):
you know, I'm trying to I'mtrying to work out schedules so she can
talk to my because I like her. Her attitude is so terrific. Wow.
To listen to how she it's likethere's no does she's successful. It's
like it's a no brainer. Speakingof terrific attitudes. Daniel Matthews joins us
after some technical difficulties. Danielle welcomein the swing it and ding it.
(22:18):
Thank you. Yeah, more difficultiesas I need my head hood that a
little PV A little hoodie you gotgoing on there, Brad facts and bring
you back some gifts or why Ithink Brandon was there. He was there.
I heard about it. He's beenon the tour. I need to
get a couple of different different logoswide from him. He's been all over,
(22:42):
no doubt. So Jack, let'slet's talk. I want to talk
about Cricket Club because it's one ofmy favorite places in the area. Like,
if I could play one round inthe Philly area, it might be
Cricket that's how much I love theplace. But talk about coaching, right,
what is that? Like, you'recoaching high school team. You mentioned
it. You don't have him forvery long. It doesn't sound like much
on the instruction side. What whatis it? How do you get these
(23:03):
guys to play, motivate them andhave success. Well, I figure I'm
figuring that out. You'll let usknow a great challenge. The nice thing
is I have two friends and mydad who are helping me out as volunteer
assistance, which is you know, not every high school coach has that,
uh, And it's been it's beenreally nice to have some extra help,
(23:25):
especially, you know, coaching isas much about, you know, helping
the kids through life as it ishelping golf. And you know, I'm
twenty six years old. I don'thave a ton of life experience, I'll
be honest. So it's nice tohave people, more people I can lean
on how many kids on the teamwe carry sixteen? Wow, I would
love to have carried more. Wehave, you know, we have an
(23:49):
an eight person varsity and eight personJV. I would love to carry more.
But it's just like you know,I get. I would have to
have a rotation for the JV team, and I would have to have a
rotation for practices because course access ishonestly been the most challenging part of this
job is getting course access. Wow, I could, I could. I
(24:10):
could say a lot of things rightnow that would you know, are very
disappointing h to see because I think, you know, you have high school
golfers and these are you know, country clubs, future members. These are
public golf courses, future customers, and you should be going out of their
ways. I'm honestly very disappointed tosee. How you know, and I
(24:33):
understand, you know, golf hasexploded in the last three years. Yeah,
you know, like I said,my dad is in the golf course
business, so I understand that thesegolf courses are busier than ever. But
at the same time, I thinkyou also have an obligation to get back
to the game. Your dad soundslike a future guest of swinging and ding
it. But I think a storywe can get them. They might have
a story, golf stories. He'syour man. Yeah, that's crazy about
(24:59):
you mentioned golf access because Brandon,my husband, played at Temple At which
is a D one golf school, and even they had some issues with act
the thing golf course it is,so my dog has a choice. I'm
gonna shoot silent dog toys. That'swhat you're guess what I'm getting you for
Christmas. I have my thumb onthe mute, but i'm just trigger finger
over here. Yeah, it's it'sit's it sucks because you know, yeah,
(25:26):
and and and I know other collegeteams who have had who have been
at at certain courses and no longerable to play there now, and it's
just it's it's I just don't thinkit's right. Yeah, all right,
we'll listen. We'll close out withthis because we know you have your your
golf uh fantasy draft. I'll tellyou I was an experienced person. I
would look to draft Viny Testaverdy withyour first pick. That's I think I
(25:49):
did that once and I did reallywell, So maybe I'm big. I'm
big on my last pick so likeyou know, in my college Buddies league,
I picked Zach. I always finda real deep cut. And it
was Zach Kotz, who played atPenn State for three years, never played,
never saw the field, had agood season at Old Dominion last year
(26:11):
and didn't get drafted, but hewas somehow available in the U fan.
So I always find like a deepcut. You know. It could be
like, you know, I thoughtabout Sean Clifford this year and I'm like,
no, that's too obvious. TraceyMcSorley is always a good option at
Brenham, you know, really deepcut Penn State guys. I love it.
I love it. I got onequestion, but no, after you're
done, no, moose, goahead and move out. Now. I
(26:33):
just want to talk about cricket becauseI would love to know what what you
love about it. You know,I played Beth Page Black and I saw
some similarities and it like brought meback to a couple of holes. But
you know, I don't know.I just love that golf course. It
is just the way it shapes, you know, the drama of the hills
up and down that closing hole andeighteen, like it just is a special
(26:55):
place and I would love to getyour thoughts on why you know, why
you love it, you know otherfavorite part of places. It's the same
arts course. Really, it's it. You know, it's yes, a
lot of times it's our best greensfirst of all. And you know I
love last year before, you know, when I was the assistant, I
took are I took a couple ofour kids out at a time and took
(27:18):
them out there and said, okay, if you guys break forty, I'll
pay your guests fee, you know, And I set it up really hard,
make them only play with five clubsand whatnot. And and you know
what I could, I could makesome of the best players in the world
struggle to break forty on that golfcourse. It's really fun, you know.
(27:40):
And I'll go out there, I'll, you know, I'll I'll normally
only take like a driver, afive wood and then my wedges, you
know, that's all I really need. Or I'll go take six iron,
eight iron, pitching wedge, sandwedge. We'll carry bag. I don't
have another bag. I do wantto get another bag for that purpose,
yes exactly, but you know, just take you know, take odd numbered
(28:03):
irons and I'm hitting six or justtake a seven iron. And you know,
I got to hit the Tiger Megahook on the on the seventh hole
because it's three hundred and sixty yardsthree hundred seventy yards and I hit a
seven iron one hundred and eighty yards. So I gotta really get everything out
of the first one so I don'thave to kill the second one. But
yeah, I love that golf courseand the way my membership, the way
(28:26):
my membership category works. I havea fifty round cap at the at the
championship courses, so I played mostof you know, I've played I think
thirty two times or something at SaintMartin's this year. Wow, tremendous.
All right, What do you thinkof James Franklin not taking a knee in
the final couple of seconds against WestVirginia. I had left the stadium at
(28:49):
that point, so I didn't actuallysee it. I was there, but
through I think he threw the ballon fourth down to get the first down
and then actually ran it in.I think Jimmy looks at the spread.
I'll be honest, Well, Iknow he made a lot of alumni very
had a line is telling you thatI had to ask you that there was
(29:15):
there was. I think there wasa situation where they had they like threw
the ball. I think they werethrowing the ball late too, and it's
like, you know, it's it'snot like they're It's not like we beat
up on them either either. Youknow, we only won fifteen I think
it was. And they gotta goto they gotta go to West Virginia next
year. So I'm wondering if Iknow that West Virginia is not worrying they're
(29:40):
gonna be thinking about that one.Yeah, I'm not worried about thinking West
Virginia. Hey, all we're worriedabout is Delaware, Delaware, Delaware.
Right? How about I was upin Pittsburgh this weekend and we were doing
like a boat tour pass the stadium, which I can't believe it's not Hinesfield
anymore. How is that possible?Yeah, I don't think like censure or
(30:00):
something like do people not like catchupanymore? E sus I don't even know
what it is. But they weresaying the record for attendance, there is
not a Steelers game. It ispitt first, West Virginias. The backyard
ball, backyard brawl man. Yeah, tremendous, tremendous. Well listen,
Jack, we will make sure weshare all your information and everything was awesome
talking to me. I feel likeI feel like you have a pretty big
(30:22):
future in the game of golf, man, And we're excited because from the
area. I love to get outand play golf sometime for sure. And
we appreciate you spending some time withus. And good luck in your fantasy
draft. Hey, yeah, thanks, thanks for having me on. I
really appreciate the opport. Good luckto Harralson. Thank you. All right,
let's take a quick break and we'llbe right back. All right,
Welcome back to swing It and dingIt. Nice to talk to Jack Hirsch
(30:47):
from Golf, Golf Magazine, golfdot com. It's just golf, Yeah,
just golf. Follow him on whatTwitter at JR underscore Hershey spelled hi
r s h e y Yep,love it. I mean, talk about
being in the games, coach inhigh school team. He's working for golf
like he's he's all in with bothfeets, so good for him. You
(31:10):
know, we talked about the Rydercuple a little bit, Harrah. I
mean, I don't know how muchmore we want to get into it.
But you know that the European teamshaped up and and Adrian Moronk had some
some quotes today. He's he's pissedand he's pissed rightfully. So I mean
I think if they if one ofthose young guys, you know, if
lud if lud Big or or HoguardStumble, I think Luke Donald is going
(31:34):
to take a beating. Oh there'sno question about it. I mean,
one of these captains is gonna takea beating a couple of weeks because there's
controversial picks on both sides. Youlook at you know, Zach Johnson with
the JT pick. You look atyou know, Luke Donald with you know,
skipping Moronk for hoy Guard putting inShane Lowry. I know, I
(31:56):
really love Shane Lowry, but hereally is not in great form, you
know, but he's been in thisenvironment before. But Moronk, I just
look at this guy, like, what does this guy got to do?
He's third in the DP World Raceto Dubai rankings. Okay, that's a
big deal. On that tour. He's fifth, and he was fifth in
the Ryder Cup ranks. Fifth nowin the you know, yeah, in
(32:19):
America. That almost it makes youlike a lock, right. He won
and was second at this golf coursethat the Italian opens, and and it's
like a horse for course. Iknow they're going to set the golf course
up a little bit differently, butthis guy obosly loves the place. Crazy
to make That's basically what he saidto like he was he's gone through all
(32:40):
the emotions. Shock now boy guardone here too. Back in twenty twenty
one, he won on that golfcourse too, so he's got good familiarity
with it too. But I'm justlike saying, man, what is this
poor you know, moronk guy gottado? Man, he's six foot six,
blonde, Polish. They're they're justthey're it's disrespect. Yeah. They
(33:02):
put it out in an article. He was like on a train ride with
his girlfriend and he got the callfrom Luke and he's like yeah, like
under and they were like sorry, pal, oh he didn't make the cut.
Gosh. Well I think he's likeI was in shockolate. Yeah I
would be too. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, to your point,
Harry, I think that's a fantasticpoint. It doesn't matter. Somebody's going
(33:24):
to get crap. Yeah, onlyone team can win, and maybe him
and Keegan Bradley should go to Live. Screw it, Maybe they should,
Maybe they should. Rory McIlroy hasbeen talking a little bit more about Live
and oh yeah, yeah, allof a sudden, talking about how he
lived in Dubai for five years andit's a lot of his friends and have
the same viewpoints. It's funny howthat turns around. Interesting, Yeah,
(33:45):
very favor I remember a bunch oflike I hate Live quotes coming from him.
So interesting. Yep, no doubtabout it. Well, then you
can have lived they have. Yeah. The Senate sets a schedule their second
probably carry on the PGA tours proposeddeal with Saudi Arabias, so that's coming
up on the thirteenth, and thatwhole focus is expected to be on the
(34:06):
pip's investments in the US, sothere supposed to be details on the on
how they're planned to work together orjust more on this framework. It basically
just mentioned that the focus is onthe pip's investments in the US and this
is this the Senate second public hearing, so we'll see how that shapes up
and hopefully we'll get some more newsthan we have in the past because it
kind of hasn't been any you know, crazy updates with any additional news lately.
(34:30):
Yeah, yeah, no doubt. You want to spell some tea time,
let's do it and look, I'mwow, look at that. I
was like, is that? Ofcourse? My wife? I wasn't working,
so I was like, well,I'll boil a pot of tea.
We'll see what time we'll start itout. Light. I saw online that
Patrick part of me, I sawmine. Patrick Harrington played Wednesday's Irish Pro
(34:53):
am with his two dogs and theygot access badges. We hear my dog
playing with his toys in the backaround almost every single podcast or jumping up
on my lap. So I wantto know if I can submit to the
PGA Tour to get my dogs fromcredentials so you can walk the poems with
me. I thought that was funny. Took did you see him two huge
(35:14):
Bernese mountain dogs and he brought himto the k Club in the programs,
just walking up and down the fairways. Takes a big out to Silverado in
a couple in another week or so. Right, we were thinking about it
right in those booking tickets. Iwas like, let's leave him at home
nut flights from coyotes. Yeah,we got to be careful exactly. This
dog has probably been on more flightsthan most people into a lot of crazy
(35:37):
golf courses. But off the topicof dogs, let's talk about a pretty
funny Golf Digest headline quote just stupid. Justin Thomas's dad reacts to reports that
he's no longer instructing his son.So JT was putting out some videos of
his golf swing and everyone's like,oh, he fired his dad everything else,
So that Mike was quoted if hedid fire me, and it was
(35:59):
for the better than what's the problem? He didn't mention that him and Justin
have been going for less one onone instructing last instruction last year so that
Justin could do more of his ownwork on his swing. But since May,
they picked a back up just toyou know what, JAT struggles.
So that was kind of funny.Did you guys hear anything? One he
(36:19):
fired his putting coach or they partedways with his putting coach, And the
quote is he wants to take moreownership of his swing himself. I mean,
you guys are doing it long enough. He probably knows best about his
own swing. So yeah, Imean, but honestly, like you have
to think about that. I mean, you have your dad, you're working
with him for those long and youprobably figured it out and you're like,
all right, well, what whattime can I kind of step away a
little bit? So there might bean element of it? Yeah, yeah,
(36:43):
we shall see. Yeah, yeah, you want me to do one
more we got Okay. I waslike, I don't know what the time
we have. I came into late, so I don't want to keep us
going into it. But just intalks of the Junior World Golf because I
know, we like to cover everything. So we have three Americans that are
going to the World Junior Golf Championship. Back in February, the USJA launched
(37:07):
the US National Development Program, tryingto develop promising junior players. Very low
seven figure million dollar budget actually threemillion dollar budget, but the goals to
create scholarships and beyond. But fastforward six months. Next month, we're
going to see three girls age likefifteen to seventeen competing representing the USA for
(37:28):
the World Junior Girls Championship in Ontario. The funny thing I thought though,
that this is a national program andthe captain or you know, the coach
of it is the LPGA veteran MoMartin who won the British Open. So
UCLA alum. But yeah, sowe'll see how that shapes up, see
(37:50):
if we can have I thought itwas a pretty good topic talking about Ryder
Cup everything else representing the country. So we'll see what these juniors can do
for Team USA. Team USA.The walk up, Yeah, how about
that they were down three to oneearly and came back and won that thing
at Saint Andrews. What do youthink of that course? Hair, Well,
it's funny you asked me that becauseit looks so different when they don't
(38:14):
have the grand standing up, Likeyou just really see all the you know,
the contours of everything, you don't. You know, a lot of
times when you watch these events, you're you focus and you're like, wait,
you're drawn to where the grand standsare because they're right usually by the
greens or whatever, and it makesthe whole landscape look so different, And
(38:34):
I just thought it was really coolto see it without that. Yeah,
j'alls are focused different. I didn'teven think about because it's not like it's
just honed in right on the wholeyou see just kind of yeah, what
it looks like behind you? Imean, there's no way you could play
a golf course like that without acaddy. There's no chance. And if
you if you follow jack Hurst did, Yeah, they were, they said.
(38:55):
Jack Hurst posted and wrote about therewas a wild, good, good
session yes with John is a galland Gordon Sergeant in their singles match.
Yeah, gall Or, I don'tknocked it out of bounds on the roadhole
minutes later and Sergeant just birdied eighteento win the match that was after that,
So see to get a chance checkit out. It looks like a
(39:17):
pretty interesting situation that happened there. It's kind of like something you know,
that would happen with me. Youknow, it's good, good, Let's
go go to eighteen. We gota cocktail to drink. Well, let's
talk about your golf right now, high Let's talk about your game. Let's
talk about all these courses you're playing, what you got coming up? I
played Saturday up at Indian Valley witha couple of my buddies, longtime college
(39:38):
buddies that I've known for forty years, and we had a foursome. The
guy Jim Nearing is a member atOld York Road, and Old York Road's
a great place. I played therewith him a few times. But they
have a reciprocal arrangement with Indian Valley, and he's like, Hey, why
don't you guys come on up theIndian Valley on me. So we're like,
(39:59):
yeah, I'd love to play upthere. Man. That place it's
out in the middle. I thinkit's out near where Danielle grew up.
Kind and not far from where yougrew up, right like nears it's Telford,
Okay, Yeah, so that's notthat far from where you where you
are from. And it's gorgeous countryside. This golf course is phenomenal. I
mean, it's just it was beautiful. We had a tremendous day. I
(40:22):
dunked in a birdie on the secondhandicap hole, the fifteenth hole, which
is a downhill uphill par five yougotta go over a creek and uh,
you know, my fourth shot wasfrom about seventy yards because I got in
trouble off the tee and I putit a forty eight degree wedge, a
nice little soft shot, boom boomright in the hole for a no.
(40:46):
I had no fist pump for me, but a fist pump from my teammate
who was up on the green whoknew he was in trouble and now so
that at that end of the hole. So that was that. And then
I made par on seventeen, whichis a great sweeping dog leg left par
four to win that hole, sowe had a ball. Bottom line.
Golf course is tremendous. And there'sa PGA Tour player that plays out of
(41:09):
there too, by the way,and actually lives near right off the golf
course, but I'll keep that underwraps today. I played at Riverton,
which is a was made in nineteenhundred. Okay, I played at the
nineteen twelve clubs nineteen hundred and thisis a Donald Ross design over in Sentiments
(41:31):
in Township, New Jersey, Itook I went to one prom in high
school, and I took a girlfrom Sentiments in high school to my prom.
This is the first time I've beenin Sentiments and since nineteen eighty four,
Okay, we stopped dating it rightexactly. There's a lot that's happened
with me our Freenchio. It's amember there, actually he is. Oh,
(41:52):
this place is tremendous. You know. I bought the foursome in the
first t auction, the one theydo on Super Bowl weekend, and I
highly you know, recommend everybody gettinginvolved that there's great places to play,
including rivertson and and much more. And we finally arranged to play it.
(42:14):
We were trying to get a foursome. I could never get four people to
It's hard to get four people togetherto play some you know place that's not
theirs, and so I just said, screw it. My wife has off
this week. The two of uswent over and Jack Wallace, the owner,
he was just like so gracious thatput all your drinks, you know,
And I drank about six double Vodkasin ninety four degree heat and played
(42:38):
eighteen holes today with a couple ofother members, Mark and Jeff I believe
his name was, And they're greatguys and that place is phenomenal. I
can't wait to go back. Loveit. And then you have another big
round coming up at it. Yeah, yasna Plana tomorrow. I thought your
celtic was off when you like, what is he talking about? Yeah,
(43:00):
yes, yes, I've been there, you have yeah, yeah, the
course, I've never been there before, you know, the facilities have to
be amazing. Harry Player designed it. It's an old Johnson and Johnson family
farm that I believe they I don'tknow if they donated the land or sold
the land, but TPC came inand put it up there and they named
(43:22):
it after the name of the estate, Yasna Polana. So I'm looking forward
to that tremendous. When first saidit, I'm like Johnson Polana and as
I mentioned, Greeny and I finallyget to I've played dally member guests for
three years. I finally bring himover to mine. I saw it.
(43:43):
You know, we had our friendsfrom the Mobile Cigar Company. They're coming
back for this outing. They wereat our outing. Oh they're great.
I mean some of the contests aredoing here amazed. They have a break
the Glass challenge, they have aGlobe Ball at Night challenge. It's gonna
be a blast. But you knowwhat, green and I have to step
up and perform, and I knowwe're going to do well. And here's
why he's in a pickle on Saturdaywith his wife where he's committed to being
(44:07):
someplace that if we're doing well,he's gonna have a problem. So I
know that we're gonna play well justbecause you know, yes, yes,
yeah, I mean, so he'sgonna stay admitted to being your partner.
Oh yeah, he's not going togo anywhere, and he said it,
but he's gonna blow stuff up ifwe get there, and it's going to
create a major controversy. And I'mall still inviter to come out and watch,
(44:30):
you know. Yeah, no,yeah, it's he and I are
married to sisters. They don't loveus. Most of the time. They
do, they love us, butthey don't love how close we are and
how we play golf together. Itdrives him crazy, you know, but
yeah, looking forward to it.I was over there today my buddy dom
Uh and Andy from the Phillies, and we've got got a little nine holes
(44:52):
in and just we're walking around andI'm not gonna do a practice round tomorrow,
but I'm going to get into thepart three. They're a five PM.
They're doing a part three, andthen I have be hour on Thursday,
like you know, before it evenstarts on Friday. So beautiful.
Yeah, I mean, the calendarof events for this thing is trying to
get you have that, and thenthe following week or two weeks after I
go to Scranton. Yeah, talkabout that, Daniel. How as things
(45:13):
coming along with that? Things arecoming along so well, full field,
everything's booked. You know, wehave a couple of just injuries that we're
replacing, but we have such alarge weight lift. So but the thing
I'm most looking forward to is,you know, possible practice round with you
two and getting our first official photo. Yeah, you know, and we've
been together how many times and weforget to get one every single time.
So I think if we could doan early tea time on Friday, we
(45:36):
could swing it somebody. So youtell me what you want, I'll set
it up. We'll get out there, we'll set up the podcast. I'll
text you the tea sheet of thepractice round on Friday ahead of time.
Thursday evening, we'll take a look. We'll have a ton of featured guests
on here. We'll line them upfor future episodes so we can keep bringing
some golf talent to the post.Tremendous. I love it. I love
(45:58):
it so, Harry. There isgolf this week we can and there is
golf to gamble on. So wemust talk about the Horizon Irish Open at
the k Club right outside of Dublinlast played here in twenty sixteen, where
Rory McElroy won it, and he'sobviously the favorite favorite in the Irish Open
from t Degreeen. The best placeto go to get in on all the

responsible gambling resources. You know alot at steak here, I think because
of you know, some of theguys on the European side that are playing
in it. I talked about howI think I'm gonna fade moronk because I
feel like his head is probably scrambledright now. But what are you seeing
for this one? Well, I'mgonna take him. I think he wants
to stick it right in Luke Donald'seye. Okay, so I'm gonna take
(47:29):
uh, mister moroc in a topten at least at plus two forty.
And then I saw Rasmus hoy Guardthe other. You know, there's there's
also some things that where they couldinterchange these hoy guards because they look exactly
alike. So let's say the onegoes out and plays like crap, they
put in Rasmus on the other ninefor the alternate shot. You never know.
(47:52):
They might be up to something here. But I'm gonna take Eddie Pepperrell,
who's one of my favorite players onthe DP World Tour minus one twenty
over rasp mus Hooy Garden a matchup, and then here's a couple of names
for you, Moose. I'm gonnatake Fabrio Zanati minus one thirty five over
week O Knee Nauber. Is thatyour new favorite Moose? I like that
(48:17):
one. That's tremendous. That's somedeep cut knowledge right there, Aaron is
you don't get way too early onSaturday morning. As we continue to see
the line with Draft Kings. Isthat Ed harry on your on your Yeah?
Yeah. I think Lowry at thattwenty two hundred number. I think
(48:37):
people have been talking about him alot, and I think he wants to
play well. He's a T ninehere last year. I do like that
Rasmus play as a nice number atsix thousand. I also like Aaron Rye
at plus thirty five hundred. MattWallace he had the second in the check
Masters and he has some pretty decentodds, whereas Matt at five thousand and
then Minmulee consistent tea green player fifteenthat the British Master at Belfrey, which
(49:00):
is very similar to this course. So keeping an eye on that gentleman as
well, and see how things progresstremendous. I mean, all the great
golf courses throughout the country of Irelandand they play this at the k Club.
Yeah, just like I mean, come on, that's why the dogs
are allowed exactly, exactly, well, listen, great stuff, guys.
(49:24):
We will will try to get thiscoordinated so we can get up to the
Country Club of Scranton for the NIPOevent because we'd love to be there and
see everything that's going on. SoI'll get to work on that. Yeah,
yeah, I love it. Loveit up there. And thanks again
to Jack Hirsch from Golf for comingon and we will be back next week.

Now it could be because you know, they treat their customers just right.
That's why mas Chevy they've been voteda top one hundred dealer in the entire
