(01:10):
back to Swing It and dinging Man. Thanks, guys, it's great to
be here. So Hery, wecould talk about Union League golf like every
week, every week, Yeah, about everything that's going on, and we'll
talk about how I played. Ifinally played National last last season. But
when something new and breaking in thePhilly golf scene happens, we got to
hear about it. And something prettycool is happening out of Toursdale. Sean,

(01:34):
tell us about what's going on?Is it this week? Thursday?
Yeah? Thursday? We h weactually get to hit some shots on our
brand new nine hole short course. So we had some some believe it or
not, Yeah, Toursdale, whichis a landlocked golf course, Like,
where do we find this land?Yeah, we had some room there to
the right of our driving range,so we made some room and we put

(01:56):
an awesome nine hole golf course in. We have so much demand for golf.
We had such a busy membership atthe league, and our teaching program
is really really busy. We dothings a little differently than most clubs.
So with that demand, we thought, we've got this space here. We
had the resources to do it withsome great architects and friends in the business,

(02:16):
and we wanted to lead in havingone of the first nine hole short
courses in the area. So that'swhat we did. Well, tell us
about the architect because we're architectsure geekshere. Whether it's nine holes eighteen holes,
it doesn't matter. Well, wetapped into our friends at Reece Jones
designed. Steve Wiser is one ofthe principal architects with Rhece Jones and he's

(02:38):
a good friend of mine. Andwhen actually when we were shopping around for
golf courses in South Jersey, Stevewas a huge help for us to really
help us arrive at Sandbarn's back whenwe did. Obviously, Dana Frye and
Jason Straker redesigned that golf course anddid a fantastic job. That was their
original project. But Steve. Ireally love what Steve does, and he's

(03:00):
an underspoken kind of guy, likehe just goes and plugs away and he's
a great resource. And then heworked with Chase mcgevers who was a young
man who was a shaper, sohe's the guy on the excavator with a
lot of the top architects in thecountry. He worked for Dope and then
he came up and We were luckyenough to grab Chase and actually hire him

(03:21):
full time on our staff at theUnion League because we have a lot of
projects going on. He's both forfighting green forests at Liberty Hill outside of
our lodge, and we said, hey, go nuts with Steve and let's
build something great. So we allcollaborated on what that might be. And
we have a really unique nine wholecourse. So we actually don't have teas,
so there's multiple routings that you couldplay on this course, and we

(03:42):
want to have a lot of funwith us. We didn't want to formalize
it. We have a really greatpiece of land that could be looked at
it multiple ways. And you knowwhen you go to the great resorts of
the world, like you guys talkabout travel all the time, I no
cost of the compo. Robert wastalking about maybe building a short course out
there somewhere on that property. Ijust got back from Pebble Beach playing in
a program a couple of weeks agoand played the hay And and I was

(04:05):
going to ask you about that.I get to play it in July.
So ah, it's awesome. Ohmy gosh. Reviews are incredible. It's
just a lot of fun. You'reout there grabbing a couple of clubs and
the drink and enjoying it. AndI've been lucky to travel with golf and
played some great resorts and you know, you have a great time after eighteen
holes playing that short course. Sowe wanted to bring a little bit of
that social golf to it. Butwe have so much invested in teaching the

(04:29):
game of golf at the league. So I don't know if you know,
but our our whole program is ifyou join the Union League and be a
golf member, you don't actually payfor golf lessons. We do a complimentary
lesson program that's it's baked in everything. So we the number one thing that
keeps people away from playing the gameof golf, and the reason people walk
away from it, it's too hard, and so we took all those barriers

(04:49):
down. So when you join theclub, we actually have golf clubs for
you to try out to experience becominga golfer, and then you can take
a lesson, one lesson per weekwith us. So we've seen it tremendous
growth. Once a week, oncea yeak week, So we we have
a lot of members that join, they play golf and and we've had a
couple couple of folks actually shoot inthe eighties in their first year because they're

(05:12):
taking a lesson a week, they'replaying golf and they're getting into it.
And Tarzdale, as you guys knowif you've played it before, is those
greens are classic old Philly greens. They're tough. Man, It's not an
easy course to just jump out on. So it's like a double black diamond
for some people. It's Donald Ross. Donald Ross. Yeah, it's a
I think some of the best architecturein the Philadelphia area. And uh,

(05:33):
you know, allowing creating the shortcourse gives us like we're bridging the gap
between the driving range and the firstteam. We're creating that that option that
we need to present in order togrow golf at our clubs and provide a
little relief to the full course. And then have so many different options of
what we could do with the shortcourse. Now, did you have to

(05:54):
move anything with the existing course inorder to accommodate or is that able to
stay completely intact? Yeah, itstayed completely intact. We had some some
some wooded areas that we removed, some dead trees and some really invasive stuff
back there and moved a little bitof earth, but not a lot.
We have a huge tree replanting programthat we're doing working with the city on

(06:14):
that, and uh so we reallywere lucky. It didn't affect our big
course at all. And it complementsour driving range, so looking to potentially
build a teaching academy there as welland then add track man range. So
playing golf and learning golf is goingto be you know, it's gonna be
hard to beat it from that property. It is called the Landing correct called
the Landing Soars that were right nextto the Northeast Airport. Yeah, you

(06:38):
got these little jets and Cessen's comingin all the time. And I think
tars still such a cool property.I mean, you're in the city.
You can't hide it. You justembrace it like you are in Northeast Philly
and it is cool. It's anoasis in Northeast Philly and you get the
planes zipping overhead, and we justwent with it. So our marketing team,
Brian mcshally, who's who does ourour our golf marketing and our branding,

(07:01):
he did a fantastic job coming upwith these really cool elements discussing,
you know, the landing with airaircraft coming in, and so it's sort
of it's it's got that theme toit. Is it lit up at all?
It's not lit up? No,that we we could consider it.
I think we'd have to ask someneighbors for permission for that. We got

(07:21):
quite a few neighbors up there. But now we we we could probably do
some night golf things and try toconsider lighting it up. I know,
like Sage Valley down in South Carolinahas an amazing lit like a short par
three course and but yeah, sowe're we're considering that. One thing we
did was we got it raided. So the USG changed the rating policy for

(07:43):
short courses. Prior to that,Hamilton Farm had a part three courses really
excellent up in North Jersey, whichwas rated so a beginner can don't they
can build their handicap off of theseshort playing these short courses and not have
to go to eighteen holes, whichcool. Cool, Wow. I love
mountain shadows and on Scottsdal. Haveyou ever play that incredible short course?
I have, and I've played theBad Little nine at Scottsdale National, which

(08:05):
was quite an experience. But yeah, I haven't played that one yet.
So how much thought went into distancesright with something like this? And what
are the average kind of distances? Is there a sweet spot for something like
this that you look for. It'skind of all over the place. The
longest hole's going to get to rightaround one hundred and fifty yards if you
really wanted it to. Okay, the idea of not having set teas like

(08:26):
we will have set routings that wecan suggest if you wanted to play a
rated course, but I equated toI remember playing golf with my dad growing
up. You go to the drivingrange, you go to the punt and
green, and you have a littlecontests like closest to the whole and whoever
wins this gets to pick the nexthole. I kind of want to see
the same thing happening here. Justgo out of fun, like, don't
worry about pace of play so much. Don't worry about this. Just make
sure you're not bothering anybody else andlearn the game in your own way.

(08:50):
Certainly we'll have like competitions and differentclinics, and our neighbors across that John
F. Berner or the operator bythe first tea, which is the city
owns obviously, Johnny Berna. We'regonna do a lot with John f Burn
and the first team and bringing thatkind of element to these kids. And
there's a ton of possibilities that eighteenholes, you know, it doesn't give
you with all the rules and allthe tea times, and this is just

(09:11):
a cool outlet to try some newthings. It's so cool. Yeah,
this is a nine hole short coursewhatever you want to, you know,
call it is catching on. Ithink around the country basically because I think,
you know, people after COVID,you know, they're getting interesting in
golf, but they don't necessarily havefour four and a half hours. You
know, on a Friday afternoon orSaturday, whatever day you can play to

(09:31):
go out and play eighteen holes, but you can get your golf in and
it's not going to take you nearas long as a time investment, definitely,
And then you know, it's kindof funny. I watch people hit
balls here. I'm at Liberty Hillnow and I watch people hit balls in
the range. We have TrackMan rangehere which attracks every single shot that golfers
hit. If you turn the appon our Knie it's really cool. And
what we notice is the highest majorityof shots hit when you go to the

(09:54):
range or drivers. No one's workingon the short game. And Phil Mixerson
always that you should hit three shortshots for every one long shot you hit
when you're practicing golf, but noone's ever practicing on the short game,
are yet? Yeah, this isan excellent way to spend like forty five
to an hour fifteen, You getnine holes in, you get really great
wedge work, You're gonna become abetter golfer, and it's more convenient.

(10:15):
Like you said, Harry, it'slike we talked to Brad Faxton. He
said, what's the key to putting? He's like putting, actually working on
your putting. I'm sure there's notgoing to be any membership gambling on this
short No, I don't think that'sthat's yeah, Thursday afternoons, I think
we might see a little bit aboutWow. It's funny because that the short

(10:35):
course of Mountain Shadows out in Arizona. They have it's eighteen holes, but
they have a seventeen and a halfhole and it's like a I think it's
like a seventy five yard putter onlyand it literally says how it's like to
kind of even up bets because alllike the Hollywood execs used to fly in
there to play and gamble. Soreally cool thing. And like you said,
Harry, this is something that isyou know, it's something that's wanted

(10:58):
and needed, and I think it'sgives an extra element of you know,
playing thirty six, especially when youknow you get up there at a certain
age, it's like it could bea little diff difficult, but you know,
having a chance to kind of unwindand have some fun out there,
and it's such a such a coolidea. So congrats to you guys man.
Absolutely, oh thanks. Yeah.Well also, I mean Moose and
I took up the game, youknow, not when we were kids.

(11:20):
We were you know, adults whenwe took it up way too late.
We always bemoan that fact. Butif I was a kid and you know,
my mom and dad belonged to theUnion League, and I'm seven,
eight years old or whatever, likethis is something where you get up to
the first t it's not like, wait, dad, I got to hit
it all the greens all the wayup there. It's like this sort of
get brings it all in where youcan sort of process it and be like,

(11:41):
yeah, I can do this,Yeah totally. I have four young
kids myself, and I grew upin the Lehigh Valley and there were public
chip and putts, you know, all over the place you could go and
just have fun on and a litchip and putt. We don't really have
that in Philly. We don't havethose options as much. And I think
with my young kids, if I'mto them how to play golf, it's

(12:01):
really intimidating to just take them onthe golf course, especially as busy as
golf has been. A fantastic outletgo hit some balls, walk over to
the short course, you know, play a couple of holes if you want
to, and you kind of easeinto it. So I think I think
you're going to see a lot ofother courses that have the land to do
it trying something like this. I've'teven heard of golf courses closing down their
driving range and making it a shortcourse if they can, if they've got

(12:24):
the target greens. So I thinkit's a good way to play golf.
Wow, it's awesome, you know, congratulations on that, and you know,
we would love to talk a littlebit about some of the other properties.
As I mentioned, I was ableto play National last year, and
I mean I had expectations just fromtalking to people. And you know,
it's tough when you when you whensomething is built up, but it blew

(12:46):
me away. I mean, youyou don't feel like you're in South Jersey.
I don't know where you feel likeyou are, but I mean what
you guys did down there is justeverything about it just absolutely spectacular. Talk
to us about you know, fromwhere that started to kind of where things
are now. Membership, you know, the course itself, because it seems
like it's in a great spot.But I know, I know you guys,

(13:07):
you never you never just rest onyour lot. Yeah. National is
a crazy thing. So we obviouslyhad success to Tarsdale with the growth of
kind of not changing it, butmerging the Tarslow Frankfurt and kind of flipping
that property and investing a lot intoit to get as much life out of
it as possible. I think onething that Union League does really well is

(13:28):
they make anything they get as goodas it can possibly be, so they'll
invest it. We're not looking atlike a five year investment. It's for
fifty years. It's multi generational investment. So if we're going to get something,
we're going to make it great.Looking at Sambar and sand Burn's it
came out in ninety seven with Herdsonand Fry was top one hundred modern courses

(13:50):
in the country, and then itwas a public course for many, many
years. And with that you getdepreciation and things just kind of go by
the wayside a little bit. AndI think the Robertson's we partnered with them
to to take over that property. They were the previous owners, and you
know, they wanted to put itin someone's hands that was gonna make it
even better. So we brought DanaFry back. And if you ever met

(14:11):
Dana or talked to Dana, he'slike a mad scientist. The guy's got
insane vision and he's looking at aproperty he had never done that before,
look at a property he built twentyyears ago, and be able to walk
around and say, man, Iwish I could have had the resources to
do this or this. And hetook some liberties. I remember him,
like the first six holes we did, we were just trying to maybe test
Dana out and see what the proofof concept was going to be. And

(14:35):
he started cutting and digging holes alittle deeper than we thought he would,
and the sand piles got higher andhigher and higher, and now you know,
I think we have the one ofthe highest points in South Jersey with
our biggest the landform in the middleof the property. But Dana just kept
going and we just let him goand kept building and it really was It
turned into something way bigger than wasinitially supposed to be as a huge investment.

(14:56):
But we were you know, numbertwo best new co Worse in the
US last year because they called ita new course with all the work that
was done, and the membership responsewas huge plus and frankly, you know,
COVID really had a lot to dowith that, and a lot of
people escaped to the shore in twentytwenty and twenty twenty one, so it
really just kind of exploded, andit's really cool to see. It's a

(15:20):
fun property. Jacoboffer's doing an awesomejob running that property and creating such a
cool experience for our members. Andwe do have a lot more plans in
the future, actually a short coursedown in the works right now, potentially
adding some clubhouses and different things, and we're doing some Master playing right now.
So you know, it's funny.Back when it was the sam Barns,

(15:41):
like Harry said, I was inlike my thirties. My parents had
a place in kate Ma, Cordouse. I took my first ever golf lesson
there no way, and I can'tremember who the teacher was, but he
drew lines and dots on my glovebecause I had never like held a club
before. Oh wow, and Ihad played with that glove. So my
buddies used to give me so muchcrab for it. Like I remember I
played in in an outing with Brianfrom un Army. He's like, what

(16:02):
is on your glove? And likeit tells me? It tells me where
to hold my fingers in the Iwish I still had that sometimes, man,
Jesus, it's probably all ripped offand yea, but yeah, I
mean glove. Having played sand Barnsa few times and then having the opportunity
to play National last year, it'slike you don't even recognize the place.

(16:22):
It's it's totally like totally I'm liketrying to remember, you know what,
what the sort of the landmarks werefor the old place. You can't.
It's totally different. It's all dramatic. Yeah, we the aesthetic. We're
trying to like meet callucive pines, which I did down in Naples. It's
an awesome golf course. So it'slike Callucipines meats Pine Valley. You know,
we did. We took a lotof care to to grab a lot

(16:42):
of the the natural elements from NewJersey. I remember we actually went up
to like McGuire Air Force Base andwe found some shrub off of a runway
that's like native to that area thatsomeone told us about and that's that was
planted in a lot of the hillsand so much care and effort went back
to that, and I mean it'ssomething that our members are going to enjoy
for for generations. And the demandright now is just through the roof.

(17:04):
The waiting list is through the roof, and it's it's really cool to see
the success of National. Yeah, and the Liberty Hill property is fans wrap
it up at the Liberty Hill becauseI also played that for the first time
last year with our friend John Clark. Yeah. Yeah, and I was
blown away by that too, likethe undulations like it that course. I
mean that that absolutely took me bysurprise, just the way that it lays

(17:25):
out, the ups and downs, try and walk and carry your bag on
that. Yeah. Yeah. Andthe clubhouse, I mean, oh yeah,
absolutely spectacular. Yeah. Liberty.Yeah, it's a unique property and
it's always like a hidden gem.I feel like it never got a lot
of credit. It never got alot of visibility. They were, you
know, the Chub Insurance Company ownedLiberty Hill prior and it was the Ace

(17:47):
Club and and you know, thisis a huge property, three hundred and
twelve acre property. You can fittwo Tarsdales in the here. And it
really was built to host big events. It was built to entertain. The
very corporate feel to it. Sowhen we came in, we had a
tremendous opportunity. Place like, it'svery different architecture. So we have this
classic ross which is so cool innortheast Philly and it's very Philadelphia. Then

(18:10):
we've got this thing at the shorethat's very modern, very beach, very
doomy, which is really in itselfvery unique. And then we've got this
which is a massive parkland golf coursethat could you know, could host a
large tour event tomorrow if we hadthe US Open qualifier here last week and
we had of course record set fromalmost seventy five hundred yards of sixty six,

(18:32):
which was shot by Peter Bradbeer.Ironically, I Pretter Badbear Junior golf
clinics when I was an assistant atMarion years ago, and it's pretty cool
to see him come full circle andnow he's, you know, trying to
make it on tour. But itreally held up well, and that the
golf course is just it's really prime, and like I said before, I
don't think a lot of people knewabout it as much, and we're getting

(18:52):
it out there a little bit more. I was over there for the Travis
mannon outing a couple just two weeksago or so, and you know I
sent you the email. The placejust present so well and that the staff
is just fantastic. It's just agreat spot. Oh thanks hearing. We
take a lot of pride in it, and you know we love what we
do, so it's it's easy whenyou love coming to work every day.
Tremendous and you can see it itshines through. I mean, you talk

(19:14):
about the Union League, Philly golfwould not be the same without what you
guys are doing. And uh,it's awesome when you get a chance,
whether it's an outing or you know, remember to experience some of these places
and just see what you guys areputting into it, because it is,
you know, from top to bottomof everything about it spectacular. Yeah.
I'll actually be staying out there ina couple of weeks. We gotta get

(19:37):
that. We got what do wedo with Ridgepike? We're gonna get that.
We gotta get that. Figure thatout tunnel. Yeah we got,
but you know, it's always takesa while there. Who's your who's your
pick for the p G A Yeah, that's get what we got. Oh
man, it's so hard now withit's really hard to gauge anybody with with
live and with you know, Imean it's hard to watch. I don't

(20:02):
know what to watch and I don'tknow who to handicap anymore because it's like
you, I don't find myself watchingas much golf as it and I hate
to say that, but I justwe talk about it week in and week
out. Yeah, ratings, theratings are indicating that. Yeah, John
Ron with the strangest comments of alltime today, If you guys get a
chance to listen to his press conference. He's he that man is so conflicted
it's it's shining through. Wow.Yeah, but I think I think I

(20:22):
gotta go with Rory right now.You got to go the hotthand and when
that guy's on, he's hard tobeat and who knows what's going on in
his head. But we'll see.Yeah, he looked more like the Rory
of twenty and fourteen last week. That's for sure a little more free.
Yeah. I don't think I'll everpick him up the Masters, but no,
I gotta see if the young BennettScheffler is going to prevent Scotty from

(20:47):
just mowing down the field. Yeah, that might be the only thing.
Yeah, I think that. Ithink that baby would have to give me
three a side already probably you knowwhat I mean. Interesting but great stuff,
Sean. Thank you for joining us, man. We always appreciate you
hopping on. We always love hearingabout it. Tell the rest of the
guys we said hi, thanks andanything you guys ever need, We're here,
same here, Thanks guys, stickcare, Thanks, thank you.

(21:10):
All right, let's take a quickbreak, Harry and we will be right
back. All right. Welcome backto Swing It and Thing It. Union
League hair. I mean, ohyeah, yeah, I mean and and
so different like you talked about.I mean, all three of the properties
are very unique to the themselves.Yeah, so cool. And then and
you know those guys never stopped too, you know. But the short course

(21:33):
thing is awesome. Man, I'mso looking forward to playing the hay out
of Pebble. But yeah, Imean, just a great way to finish
up, you know, whether it'syou go out with all access on a
buddy's trip. There's a lot ofshort courses around the world now that you
can get to play. But yeah, that's got it. That's gotta be
a blast. We're gonna have toget out there and check that out for
sure. Yeah. They got theCradle down at Pinehurst too, which is

(21:53):
the same same type of thing goingon. A couple of my buddies were
down there in the last couple ofmonths and they said it's just fantastic.
Yeah. Yeah, all right. So the Wells Fargo Championship, Harry Rory
had quite a Sunday. He gotHe goes with two eagles in an eight
whole stretch. Xander, they're goingshot for shot and then Xander just Xanders.

(22:14):
I hate to say it, butlike, is there anybody you would
want to count on less on aback ninth Sunday? Yeah, I mean,
Rory turns it. Rory turns aone shot deficit into a five shot
win, and he double Bogie's eighteenwould have been a seven shot win,
right half. So you know, the world number two goes seventeen under sixty
five for his fourth win at QuailHollow, his twenty six win. He

(22:37):
obviously just got his his twenty fifthlast week. You know it it was
uh, I thought it was goingto be an absolute shootout, and it
just he just he just took it. He just took over. Yeah,
he put the he put the thefoot on the gas. You know when
they once they made the turn, because they were all even. Xander opened
up the day with a one shotlead. By the time they got to

(23:00):
ten t they're all even and Rory, like you mentioned, one of the
eagles on the par five tenth andthen Xander makes birdie. So Rory's up
one. And how did he makethat eagle a thirty four foot putt,
he sank. I mean, youknow, it was just like he was
doing everything. His potter was unbelievableall week. He birdied the short par
four fourteenth. Xander only made par, so he goes up excuse me,

(23:22):
Xander bogie twelve and thirteen. Sothen right there, you knew it was
over, right, Rory birdie's thirteen, so now he's up four. He
birdied the short par four fourteen,Xander made par. He's up five.
Now you're just like, how muchis he gonna win? By it?
You knew it was over. Youknow, we didn't get our drama that
we that we were hoping for,and you're thinking, like, man,

(23:42):
this could be a real showdown, sort of like a Ryder Cup. It
was just two guys, right everyyeah, yeah, it was a two
horse race playing together, you know. And it's not like Xander is a
short hitter, and I know nobodyhits it better and farther off the tee
than McElroy. But but Shawfle isno slouch off the tea. He gets
it out there. So you know, I'm thinking this could be pretty good.

(24:04):
And you know, like you said, Xander just you know, went
back to being Xander. He justdoesn't make enough birdies when he needs to
on a Sunday, or he'd haveso many more wins because he's terrific.
I mean he's so solid throughout therep. You know his game. Yeah,
but it's wild to see him andwe're going to see the line.
But like how he's sitting at ZanderWe're talking about at fourteen hundred, ahead

(24:27):
of Ram and Keepka and oh Bergat the Shambo. Like, yeah,
who is betting him to win thePGA Championship after last week? I can't.
I know he always shows up wellin top five and top tens,
but yeah, that way, you'reright, yeah, to win? I
just can't see it. But youknow the tournament itself, Man, how
about the amount of bogees and doublebogies? You were thinking that this was

(24:48):
the US Open. I mean thatgolf course. I know it's a big
boy golf course. We talked aboutit last week and it's held major championships
and it's gonna hold more and it'sheld Ryder Cups. But man, that
thing played tough, it did.I mean I had Wyndam Clark. He
makes a birdie on the first holeon Thursday and then goes double double and
it was over. Like he couldnever recover from that. Uh So,

(25:11):
yeah, it played so hard.Harmon Lowry Clark and Tom Kim all finished
plus seven. Fitzpatrick, Rose,Tigala and Fenale all quality players were plus
eight. Xalatoris finished plus ten,Eric Cole our Buddy dfl at plus eighteen.
I mean, we know how goodof a player that guy is is

(25:34):
and has been having a great year. I mean, only twenty of the
sixty eight players finished under par Man. Yeah. How about our guy Denny,
he gets a T six right,Yeah, he showed up. He
showed up. I did have acouple wins. I put out four winners
on the on In McCarthy was onein a top twenty. Uh been on

(25:55):
Max Homer. Homa always seems tobe around, hanging around. Uh but
man, man, I'll tell youjays playing some good. Some Jays he
want to overseas, apparently in Koreaa couple of weeks ago, which I
wasn't aware of. And then youknow, showed up well this week,
so we could we might see himin the second half of the season making
some noise. Yeah. And JasonDay with the T four yeah as well.

(26:18):
How about that outfit on I guessit was Saturday Friday, and I
think it was Saturday. Cavan HavanaKnights. I mean, yeah, this
company is just using this guy.Yeah, it's I hope they're paying him.
Well, I'm sure they are.I'm sure they because my goodness,
it just looks so uncomfortable. Idon't know. And and like that,
you know, he wears the regularhat with like the the Walt logo on

(26:41):
it. That just doesn't go withany of them, right. It just
the whole thing is just uh bizarre. But it really Who am I to
talk about one's fashioned choice exactly? But yeah, it just seems a little
bit, uh disingenuous in a way. But yeah, I mean, Rory
McAll, it couldn't be hotter cominginto a MA Championship, which he hasn't
won since he won it here ina twenty fourteen. Think about that ten

(27:06):
years ago was his last major andit was at this very place, and
he comes in as hot as anybodyon the planet with two wins, won
the team event and then an elevatedevent, a signature event last week,
but Chris Gottterup too got to winin Myrtle Beach. I didn't get to
see any of this, really.I saw some highlights and the golf course
looked fantastic. But twenty two onhe won by six shots and it's only

(27:30):
his twenty seventh career start, andthe final round he started bogey bogie.
Yeah. And the nerves, Imean thinking, you know, he's holding
a big you know, a biglead coming into Sunday, he's never won
on this tour before. Starts outbogie bogie. Then he goes Bertie Eagle
birdie boo. Wow. Wow.It's like the opposite let start, Like
Rory goes, goes out in Bertie'snumber one againstander and ties it up right

(27:53):
away. Right. It's like thatstart on Sundays says a lot, but
sometimes it says a lot if youcan recover quickly and and turn it around.
So yeah, I mean, itwas a It was a good good
shape up, good warm up fora lot of these guys. We talked
about Scotty Scheffler Meredith, you know, finally seemed to be the longest pregnancy
ever, just because we were talkingabout it back at the and the Masters.

(28:15):
But Scotty was there, you know, practicing already and and seems to
be poised and ready to go.So good for Scotty. Congratulations to the
Schefflers. Absolutely. And how aboutthat name Bennett Boone Scheffler. If that
doesn't speak Texas, I don't knowanything. When can we bet the futures
on a master's win games? I'mchecking right now. We got to use

(28:37):
code ding if you want to checkthat one out. Yeah. Cool.
We always talk about the link inour bio. Very important for two reasons.
One, the information on our golfouting is is there as we kind
of start to round things out becauseit's getting really really tight, talk to
some more sponsors. We have somemore stuff going to be involved this year.
Uh maybe bigger and better than ever. We'll see how that goes.

(28:59):
And also all Access our official golftravel partners who we mentioned All Access GTE

unlock the golf experiences you've always dreamedof. Those guys have decades of experience
in crafting unforgettably unforgettable tailored golf adventuresfrom casual addings to luxurious getaways. Picture

bio for a special portal for ourlisteners to unlock the golf experiences you've always
dreamed of. Check those guys out, one and done, Harry, I
held out on Brooks. I keptthem for this reason. Did you are
you on him too or did youready use him? I am too?

(29:42):
Uh, you know, I mean, I'm sure he's going to be a
very popular pick. And there's,you know, every reason to believe he's
going to come in here and playwell, you know, because both he
and John Rahm were embarrassed at theMasters. They finished plus nine. They
were twenty shots off the pace ofScottie Scheffler. And I'm telling you that

(30:03):
they both of those guys are veryproud guys and they Majors mean a lot
to both of them, especially Brooks. That's basically all he competes for.
So I'm expecting big efforts out ofboth of those guys from the Live tour.
But I did take Cap guy aswell. And DraftKings contest is live
still some spots available, Yeah.John John Cooper Junior last week took down

(30:25):
another win. He's taken the baga few times since we've been doing this,
So congratulations to John Cooper Junior. In general, I's forty four,
finished in the money, in secondplace. I was in eighth place,
well off the pace, I thinkI was. I looked I was in
second place on Saturday and twenty second. I think it was more COWI maybe

(30:45):
that that just tanked it for me. I saw a couple of guys did,
But I'm like, what does that? Right? Turns it around quickly.
But it's major championship week, HarryPGA Championship. But Nowhalla, you
know, all the stars are outTiger's out there on the range. Ye,

(31:06):
you know, Scottie's back, thelive guys are over there, the
press conferences, the whole nine.Ludwig is back, Ludwig is back,
and Valhalla. Let's talk about thecourse, of course, because like any
major a lot of times, thatis the biggest story is the golf course
itself that they're playing. Yeah, and you know, they haven't been here
since twenty fourteen. Like we mentioned, Louisville, Kentucky, it's hosting its

(31:27):
fourth PGA Championship. The first onewas back in ninety six, won by
Mark Brooks in a playoff over Kentuckynative Kenny Perry. And then in two
thousand, you all remember this greatmatch between Tiger Woods and Bob May,
who a lot of folks probably nevereven really remembered. Bob May. He
was a phenom junior player in Californiagrowing up with Tiger, and they competed

(31:52):
a lot as youngsters, and youknow, his pro career never really went
where it was supposed to go,but it did the week of the PGA
Championship and they had an unbelievable battlethat went to three playoff holes that Tiger
ended up winning. Twenty fourteen,we talked Rory McElroy. His most recent
major win was here. They've hadsenior PGAs here two thousand and four and

(32:14):
twenty eleven, one by Hale Irwinand Tom Watson, respectively. And of
course the two thousand and eight RyderCup which was won by the USA sixteen
and a half to eleven and ahalf. That was when Paul Asinger was
the captain and he had the podssystem and they beat Nick Faldo's European squad.
So you talk about they've hosted it, I mean, you name it,

(32:35):
and this place can host it's parseventy two close to seventy six hundred
yards. Now they keep stretching thisthing out. It's a Jack Nicholas design.
And you got four par fives, the second, the seventh to tenth,
and the closing hole, the eighteenth, which we'll talk about four par
threes, three, eight, eleven, and fourteen. And there's some long

(32:55):
ones. They're well over two hundredyards, especially that that fourteenth hole.
The greens are kind of smallest fortour standards only, averaging around five thousand
square feet. You're gonna have twobodies of water that meander their way through
the property. That figure in onseven of the holes. Brush Run Creek
which is on the back nine andis very significant on two of the holes

(33:19):
that we're going to talk about, and then Floyd's Fork on the front nine.
They switched out the grass at thisplace since they were here last Now
Zoyza fairways blue grass, rough andbent grass greens, and they've actually done
something pretty significant. They've removed thestrip of fairway grass between the fairway bunkers
and the fairway where it was rough, which would prevent balls from running into

(33:44):
the fairway bunkers. They got ridof that. It's fairway Zoysia right into
the bunkers. So it's gonna playa lot like a link style course that
you see over in Scotland and England. So those balls are going to keep
running and they'll go right into thefairway bunkers, so watch out for that.
We'll start on the thirteenth hole, which is kind of the signature hole.
It's a shorter par three called theIsland has an island green surrounded with

(34:07):
a cool limestone rock wall and anice waterfall off to the right of the
green. The whole ranges from betweenthree hundred and fifty and three hundred and
sixty yards and you know guy's goingto be you know, using different clubs
off the tee there, but avery cool hole. Then you go to
the long par three fourteenth. It'scalled two Tiers as in crying Tiers.

(34:29):
Two hundred and fifty five yards fromthe back te moose and the green's well
guarded by a deep bunker in thefront right and the green is kind of
offset with two distinct tiers in them. And Jack nicholas signature to his design
is offset greens that kind of arediagonal in shape, you know, from
where they stand towards the fairway parfour fifteenth holes four hundred and thirty five

(34:52):
yards, a slight bend to theleft off the fairway with a fairway bunker
on the right. Now the creek, this is the brush Run Creek comes
into play on the right side onthe approach all the way up to another
one of these offset greens with abunker on the near right corner and another
stone wall. The horses or thehole is obviously called on the rocks.

(35:14):
Then you go to the sixteenth youstart coming back towards the clubhouse, and
this is where the playoffs started withTiger Woods and Bob May back in the
day. Par four five hundred andfifteen yards, tree lined fairway, subtle
left the right bend in the fairway, long approach to another offset green with
a pot style bunkers guarding the green. It's called down the Stretch, a

(35:35):
little horse racing name there. Andthen we go to the seventeenth hole,
which is four hundred and seventy fiveyard par four. A twisting fairway kind
of sort of like a little bitof a double dog leg with bunkers on
either side of the landing area, and the approach to a large green with
a large bunker complex guarding the leftside, and in that playoff, I

(35:57):
believe Bob May put his approach shotinto that bunker and made an unbelievable bunker
shot that almost went in, sothat that bunker is going to play heavy
on Sundays. On for the Sunday. Then the par five eighteenth holl five
seventy five fairway Ben's left to right, big bunkers on the left and kind
of a stream of sort of aman made water hazard on the right.

(36:20):
It kind of looks real pretty, but you don't want to be in it,
obviously. And then a large boomerangshaped green with a big pot bunker
that kind of sits right in themiddle of the boomerang and it's got multiple
tears on it. Bob May almostmade his his birdie putt that we had
to come up over the hill andhe came right down to the whole a
couple of inches away. He neededto make that to force another playoff hole.

(36:43):
He did not. Tiger ended upin the in the bunker, made
a great bunker shot and made madepar uh to win the hole in the
match. Yeah, Valhalla, Yeah, you know, go ahead, I'm
saying, But if you've remembered.I don't know if you've seen any of
these clips. If not, yougot to go watch back and watch the
playoff because on that eighteenth hole whenTiger teed off, he kind of blocked

(37:07):
his t shot to the right, you know, way across nowhere near the
fairway, over the dunes, andthe ball disappeared right down this hill,
and you see this one of thefans running. He goes out of camera
view and the ball's out of cameraview. Then all of a sudden, a
few seconds later, the ball shootsout further down the cart path and here's

(37:29):
the dude running, and a lotof people swear that this guy touched the
ball or kicked it to keep itgoing down the fairway instead of going into
a like a worse hazardous spot.Though. Way, yes, it's a
lot of mystery around this. Onthe grassy knoll where was it was kind
of a grassy knull. You're exactlyright, So you got to go back
and watch it. It was great, But that's on that eighteenth hole.

(37:51):
It was pretty cool. Wow,great stuff, great stuff. You know,
this is a major championship, soonly one winner since twenty nineteen has
been better than ten under that wasmore kwat thirteen and twenty twenty two.
You know, Yeah, how aboutRory coming in hot and he's has seven
top tens in the last ten majors. Yeah right, And like you said,
he wins here. Seven of thefourteen winners of the last fourteen winners

(38:16):
here are first time major winners.Though, and there's a bit of a
sweet spot that we see with thePGA Championship as we kind of move into
seeing the line, six of thelast ten winners closed at two thousand or
shorter odds, but Rory in fourteenwas the only player in the last decade
was shorter than one thousand dollars odds. So it's kind of like that sweet

(38:38):
spot between one thousand and two thousandis where you see most of your winners.
And as we head into the PGAChampionship, well, guess who's in
that sweet spot? Our guy Koepka. He sure is, He sure is,
Harry, he sure is. Aswe see the line with our friends

Harry, I got a couple playshere, I got a couple matchups.

(40:29):
I'm probably gonna change my mind amillion times, but I'll tell you what
I like right now. Yeah,it's early in the week. I mean,
you know, we're recording a littleearly this week, so we have
the right to change our between nowand Thursday morning. But you mentioned,
you know, DraftKings. Of thetop ten favorites as of yesterday when I
was looking at this, five werelivegolfers and five were PGA Tour golfers.

(40:49):
Brooks, rom Bryson, Neeman, and Cam Smith all getting in there.
So it's kind of evenly split.Pretty interesting. Yeah, what do you
think about Tiger versus Phil? Tigerhas shorter, shorter odds. Who do
you think finish is better than thisin this event? I got a weird
Tiger feeling this this? Do youreally I don't know why. I mean,

(41:10):
I don't think he's I mean,but I could see a top twenty
really yeah, well then you takehim over Phil then yeah, but I
mean but also Phil won the pgJA I know a couple of years too,
many years ago. I think Tigeris gonna is gonna beat Phil this
week. But okay, I'll takethe other side of that. All right,
We'll go sandwich. Will go sandwichon that sandwich like dog get to

(41:34):
turn all right? Sure? Yeah? Absolutely? I mean, can you
get a play on that? Isthat available on I didn't see It's not
a matchup, but that's that shouldbe? That would be that would be
cool. Wait, there's Tiger Specials, so maybe Okay, I don't see
it on there, but well,I know in the matchup section on Draft
Kings, get this number Scheffler minusone fifty five over Rory Wow. Okay,

(42:00):
and Xander because we were talking abouthim, like who's picking him minus
won forty over John Rahm. Wowin a matchup on DraftKings. Wow.
I thought those numbers. I'm nottaking either one of those, but I
thought those numbers were pretty significant.Yeah, I'll tell you a couple of
matchups I am taking go ahead.I like uh Cam Young plus one hundred

(42:21):
over Hovelin. Yeah. And Ilike Homa plus one fifteen over Marikawa.
Yeah. I like that. Thoseare the matchups, Okay. I'm gonna
do a couple of matchups as well. Uh Sea Woo Kim minus one thirty
over that man Gooch. I sawthat one, that one, and I'm
riding Seawoo shaking that ass, okay. And then I'm taking Brooks Kepta minus

(42:44):
one thirty over Bryson Deshamba. Icouldn't resist that one, although I think
Bryson's gonna play well. But I'mtaking Brooks and McCarthy, our guy,
Danny McCarthy minus one twenty over PatrickReid. I like it. I'm actually
gonna I like Danny McCarthy in thetop five at two thousand. Wow.
Yeah, and I was a Ihave a weird Bryson feeling this week too.

(43:07):
I don't know. I don't lovethat number at twenty eight hundred,
but I could see him winning thisevent. Homa at thirty five hundred to
a decent number for an event likethis, Wyndham Clark, I thought I
was going to be heavier on him. It's a it's a nice number at
forty five hundred though. If youthink he can he can turn it around
this week. But yeah, that'suh, that's it for now. Well

(43:29):
you speaking of Wyndham Clark, Ihad him at one and done last week,
so it figures he will probably playreally well this week. So I
took him in a top ten atplus three sixty. I took Ram in
the top ten at plus one sixtyfive, and Sam Burns in a top
twenty at plus two twenty. Andthen I took three top thirties. I

(43:52):
got plus one forty on both Strakaand Zalatorus and Norn has been playing really
good golf, plus one sixty fivein a top thirty. I like it.
I like it so great stuff.Stay tuned to our social media is
well, we'll put out some morestuff throughout the week and keep you posted

(44:12):
on any spots left for the DraftKingscontest. Yeah, and then we had
the Senior Major. The first oftheir five Majors was last weekend. Doug
Baron, who was a journeyman onthe PGA Tour back in the late nineties
early two thousands, won his firstsenior major seventeen under par, and he
outdueled Ernie Els on the final day. He had two hundred and thirty eight

(44:35):
starts on the PGA Tour, neverwon anything. This is his third career
win on the tour champions So it'skind of cool to see some of these
guys. You're like, who isthat guy? Where did he come from?
And he wins the major championship. And then Rose Zang I watched some
of this. I was dvring theLPGA. She won her second LPGA title.
Of course, the star from Stanfordwho just graduated college. He was

(44:59):
in class up until the first quarterof this year. She birdied, made
birdies on four of her final fiveholes to close the door over Madeline Sagstrom.
Nellie Corda, of course, wasgoing for six in a row.
She shot seventy three seventy three onthe weekend to finish T. Seven.
And of course they've got the USOpen at Lancaster Country Club coming up in

(45:22):
two weeks. That's right, that'sright now. The weather's been crap around
here, Harry every weekend. Didyou get out, did you play any
golf? Well? I did?I played nine holes on Sunday just to
get out because I wanted to hit, you know, I wanted to get
out and swing the club. Andthat was fine. But I played on
Friday and the weather was okay, but I had or yeah, Friday had

(45:44):
the worst warm up I can recall. Okay, And this is what I
wanted to talk about from my personalexperience that you know, you're thinking like
Tiger Woods when he have a badwarm up, and I'm not comparing myself
in any respect to Tiger Woods,Okay, but he would talk about like
he's to his dad, like Ihad a crappy warm up and he's like,
well, you're are you warm?In other words, did you loosen

(46:07):
up? And he's like, yes, that's all it was for. Like
in other words, don't get crazy, or you didn't hit great shots on
the on the range when you're warmingup, and I get I get all
that, but I didn't hit onesolid golf shot in my warm up.
So where the first I went tothe first team with absolutely zero confidence and

(46:28):
zero expectation, and I played likegarbage over the first three or four holes
until I started making a call.I made a couple of pars then,
but man, it's hard to getout of the head man, it really
is it really because my golf course, for me, the start is very
difficult for me. The first twoholes are I haven't got to hit a
little cut. You know, yougot to hit a little cut if you
can't. And I've been in thosetrees to the right every time i've played

(46:53):
on one nineteen. Yeah, soI have a mental block for those holes
to begin with. And then whenI'm going to the first team knowing I
haven't hit one good shot and awarm up, it's it's all bad.
So that was my personal experience forthe week. I think it's important to
at least get a handful of goodshots before you go out. Yeah,
I don't mentally, I haven't hada warm up in the past three rounds

(47:15):
i've played, but I didn't playedBala. We got out to Bala last
week, Okay, so fun.I mean that course is just a blast.
And I had the worst front nineI've had in a long time and
the best back nine I've had ina long time. So weird. Now,
how many times did you use thedriver only on the tenth hole?
I used it a couple of timesbecause I was just hitting like an easy

(47:37):
little cut and it was like oneof the only clubs I had confidence in,
and especially on the front. Andyou know, I'm just getting used
to the new p XG driver,so just wanted to get some some hits
on it to see which way itgoes. But uh, yeah, I'm
I'm I'm finding myself. I feellike I've been forcing a draw for too
long and it makes me too roboticand too you know, thinking about the

(47:58):
swing. And when I just openup a little bit and just swing freely,
I'm hitting the ball with a lotbetter contact well, and plus you
hit it so far, like acut for you is still gonna go plenty
far enough with a driver, yeah, I hope. So if I don't
go as far as draw, rightyeah yeah, yeah, yeah, you
don't even need You could take twentyyards off of what you normally hit a

(48:19):
draw and still be fine. Yeah. So I'm going to just try to
just go see if that works fora little while. But getting used to
the new PHG clubs, they're likeweapons. These things are like you know,
you hold it, You're like, wow, this is sturdy. So
definitely got to get some swings inas much as possible if this weather would
ever be consistently good. But yeah, you know, I guess the end

(48:39):
is near for this crap. We'llsee, Yeah, it'll get there.
So you feel good with the newsticks though, like you're starting to get
used to them, and yeah, yeah, yeah, good, I do.
I really like the driver, theblack Ops driver feels great, has
a great look to it. Yeah, it's it's solid, man, I'm
enjoying it. Yeah, no doubt. What degree is it? Yeah?

(49:01):
Yeah ten and a half? Yeyep. Now we we guys still have
to throw out one more. Yeah. Congrats to the guys at Lulu Lulu.
Oh yeah, takes down another titlein the Gap team matches, So
congratulations to John Rusk and Jim Sullivanand all that. Crazy How early in

(49:21):
the year, right, Yeah,it's crazy how early in the year that
happens. Yeah, it's always lateApril early May and it's like three weeks
and it's over. But then theythey had quite a quite a day and
uh and won another title. Sothe Killers out there, man, oh
yeah, killers out there. Absolutelygreat group, great membership, we always
want supporting the Lulu guys. Andyeah, congrats to Sully in the squad.

(49:43):
On taking that down for sure,no doubt about it. Any plans
get back out. I'm trying toget out actually to might be getting out
with the wife at Liberty Hill onFriday, o beautiful. Then she goes
to Vegas on Saturday for a coupleof days. I go play in my
high school athletic department Booster outing.I go up there every year to Myerstown,

(50:07):
PA, Lebanon Valley Golf Club andwe play scramble and just raise money
for the football team and so forth, and it's always a lot of fun.
And then I'll come back home andplay at nineteen twelve Club on Sunday
morning at ten o'clock. Beautiful.Yeah, weather at some point, Yeah,
Sunday looks Saturday now is looking norain, but like not great.

(50:28):
But Sunday looks not so good. But oh boy, this is crazy,
man. You got to get outof this, out of this run.
But it was in the forties onSunday, brutal. It's mid May,
forty degrees. It felt like March. Yeah, it is unbearable, but
you know, what are you gonnado? There'll be there'll be more time
to swing it and ding it throughoutthe throughout the summer. But yeah,
big great stuff again. Thank youto Sean Palmer, director of golf out

(50:52):
at Union League. Love hearing whatthose guys are doing. I know they're
gonna be sharing more. We're goingto share a couple pictures and videos of
the landing in our and UH PGAChampionship, Harry, let's see Brooksy follow
them at Union League Golf too onInstagram, and then of course you know
we'll we'll link up everything because I'manxious to see some videos from that place.

(51:12):
That's right, all right, We'llbe back next week to UH to
see who who took down the PGAChampionship. See that, go Brooks,
listen, swing it and ding it.
