(00:25):
and swing and ding it. Yeah, you know, just guess it's gonna
go out there and try to swingit and ding it. All right,
Hello and welcome to swing it andding it on this US Open week.
This is Moose with Maze and Matthewscoming to you live from some of us
in Philapia. Some of us isthe Jupiter area. Of a lot of
(00:46):
buzz down in the Jupiter area.We will get to that, but we
are sponsored by Drafting Sports Book.We will see the line for the US
Open. I've got a really goodfeeling on somebody, hare feel Yeah.
Yeah, and he's got a prettyjuicy number on him too. So just
a little teaser to keep to peoplelistening All Access GTE. And we know
there's some guys down at the USOpen. We'll talk about that. I've
(01:07):
been talking to a lot of guysat their club and they're like, yeah,
Dug from the club, books aretrips. I'm like, we got
to talk about thugs from the cluband from the club. Yeah, what
he can what he's capable of,he can't handle Dan Dillon and the guys
over at All Access GT. Ican know that, you know what I
mean. It's like when that guybut it's like it was fine. The
airbnb. We thought it was twentyminutes away. It was forty. You
(01:27):
know, the one bedroom was bunkbed. You know, like, yeah,
you know what it's all about. And also our friends from Comcast Business
introducing Ultimate Speed for Business, thefastest Internet plans yet from Comcast Business,
powering possibilities. Scotti Scheffler wins again. Yeah, fifth and eight starts and
obviously probably could have had a littlemore if there wasn't certain things happening in
(01:52):
his life, starting with you memorial. I know you like this love this
tournament, right and the golf courseand Jack the whole nine. Like,
to me, it was just aquintessential PGA Tour event. That's not a
major. It's it's in the youknow, it's in the top it could
be a major though. Good Yeah, yeah, so what did you think
about the week, well, Ithought it was. It was just brutal.
I mean, just so tough.Only eleven players broke par Uh.
(02:15):
You know, Scheffler was amazing. You had a little bit of drama on
Sunday between he and Colin Morikawa, which I thought was pretty cool. But
man, that's just the place justplayed so hard. Uh. Those par
fives and there's four of them, they were anything but birdie holes. I
mean, these guys go into thesetournaments thinking, Okay, how many par
fives do I have? All right, well there's four under right there.
(02:36):
I mean that's the way they typicallylook at these weeks on the PGA Tour.
Take advantage of the par fives, make a couple more birdies and and
try to hold it together. Andthat's what ex Ander Schaffle did on Day
one. He made four birdies allin the par fives and made pars everywhere
else and was quoted afterwards a sayinghe didn't really hit it all that good,
and you know, you're like, but you're like, that's the way
(02:58):
you play that golf course. Guyswere making bogies and double bogies on some
of this par five. So itwas brutal. The greens were firm and
fast, and they had a lotof wind. You give these guys hard
greens and wind and they struggle, you know, they just you know,
hit the green and then they're inyou know, four inch rough and you're
like, now, how do Iget out of this rough where I can
(03:20):
hold the green? And it wasjust it was that kind of battle all
weekend long. It was major esque. I thought it was a great test,
you know, the sort of getthese guys prepared for what they're going
to face this week. But man, you had Morikawa, you know,
he missed the green on fourteen,on the fourteenth and fifteenth on the final
day, and got it to withinsix feet on fifteen, but missed the
(03:40):
birdie pott. That was like hislast chance to really make a make a
charge. And then he makes abogie on sixteen and the tournament was really
over. Scheffler made a bogee onseventeen, but then hit big putts.
He had big putts on sixteen andeighteen to close it out. How about
the emotion that he showed when hesunk that pott on the eighteenth hole,
Man Like, I like seeing thatout of this guy, you know,
(04:01):
a little bit more emotion and itshows how much he wants it. That
was his first win on the PGATour after the month of April. I
think about that, he's got elevenwins total, and that's the first time
he's won past April. For whatit's worth, Yeah, but a great
week. I thought it was awesome. Yeah, yeah, Daniel. Did
(04:23):
you see where they said in twentytwenty one where he missed that six footer
there to go to a playoff andJack told him, you know, one
day you'll make it and I'll behere to shake your hand. And he
said it. He literally thought thatwhen he was going up there. Pretty
cool, pretty cool story. AndI think that added to the emotion of
him with that fist pump. Ohyeah, I'm sure. And like Harry
said, it was cool to seebecause we don't really see so much emotion.
(04:44):
He's such like a nonchalant guy,you know what I mean. And
it's just like, I don't knowif I was winning like he was,
I'd probably have a little more alittle more selibratory in my actions. But
part of me pretty good to watch. Yeah, And he's over what twenty
four million dollars already this year, hair, and it's it's June, and
like you know, like you saidbefore, this is new territory for him,
(05:06):
winning deep into the getting into thesummer, and as we go into
the next major and some other hugeevents coming up. I think he's the
first player ever that has five winsbefore the US Open. Jack never and
Tiger never did that. Yeah,so think about that. He's just getting
started. Man, it's wild.I mean it's and it's not even surprising.
(05:30):
Like looking at the scoreboard, I'mjust like, okay, like we
want something different. I don't know, like it's just like yeah, I
mean, you know, looking aheadand we'll get there when we see the
line. But you know, hehad to eighty right, Like you haven't
seen that probably since Tiger. Idon't know that. The stacking like thirteen
thousands, like thirteen thousand for Fantasytoo. Yeah, yeah, guys,
(05:51):
I'm in early, are you?Oh you're in. I was in yesterday.
I'm in Yeah. And I founda way to get Scotty in there
too too. Cound. I'm justlike I'm sick of just avoiding him and
trying to you know, get Aminus players or B plus players and win
that way. Just put him inthere and figure it out, man,
(06:12):
and then yeah, you know yourlast your last player is going to be
like yeah, he's maybe fifty lessplayers me. Right, There's a couple
of pools that I know of thatexcluded him this week really because like a
lot of them are categories like pickone from this, pick two from this,
and you could like I don't wantto Yeah, you couldn't do it,
(06:32):
so they pulled them out. Theother you know, there were a
couple of guys, you know, only six broke par right, so like
someone could have gone on a runagain, like what yeah, yeah,
And you know the emotional win thebaby that we've heard about for months.
We see the baby, Bennett,Meredith's there, Jack and Barbara. I
(06:54):
mean, it's just quintessential golf celebrationout there. You know, it's just
beautiful. Now is the baby cango to the memorial? Why can't my
baby come to the swing? Andyeah, yeah, I don't get it.
So hey, if she's born thisweek, maybe she gets up there.
It would be nice. It'd benice to see her there. And
(07:15):
you had you know, Adam Hadwinwas was making a bit, I mean
he was hanging in there, buthe closes with three straight bogies. He
had no yeah, no, Imean it was Colin. It was Colin
or no one, right, Ijust got to show you though, you
know, coming down the stretch, like who's been in that position before?
Who knows how to control those emotions? Like, you know, it's funny
because Colin Workawa posted on Instagram thenext day his chip. He's like like
(07:39):
something like, I still don't understandhow this didn't go right. And you
see it like he has it linedup. You can even see the green
kind of slanting that way, andhe chips it out and the balls running
and it just tasted on sixteen, the one or the one where he chipped
it was backward to the camera, chipped downhill. Okay, yeah, I
think I forget which one that was. But he's like, I still still
(08:00):
don't understand how this didn't go right. It's like haunting him. He's been
hanging around here, He's been inthe mix, you know, he really
has. He's been playing some goodgolf. It looks like, you know,
he's he's close. I know somepeople like him this week and he'll
be a popular piece. Oh yeah, yeah, especially in one and done's
yeah, so you have Scheffler,Markala two had been three. How about
(08:22):
Bazoot and Hoot. Yeah he hada good week, but it wasn't it
amazing though? Like you know RoryMcElroy and Hoveland the weekends that they had.
Rory shot seventy three, seventy six, Hoveland seventy seven, seventy five.
I mean, not the kind ofweekend you want to have heading into
the US Open. You know, someone who is trending is is Fitzpatrick,
(08:45):
right, Fitzpatrick, Oberg, Straka, all those guys, they all sit
in T five, Sun Jay isrounding out his game, gets a T
eight. Xanderschoffle is a top tenlike every week he's a top five in
every major. We know that. And now females another guy right, like
he's somebody who have to look atit as a top ten player. Like
I just again, like it drivesme crazy. I love you know,
I love the family, I lovethe posts, but it's like I want
(09:07):
that guy to be a killer sobad, and I don't think he was.
No, it's not in his personality. But how great is Ludwig Obert
to watch? Yeah, I meanwhen he and Scotty, I think We're
paired together on one of the daysand I'm just watching it and this guy,
he takes it, takes no timeover the ball, you know,
he just steps right up. Hedecides what he's gonna do, what he's
(09:30):
gonna hit, and just gets upand wax it and his game. He's
got all the facets of a greatgolf game. I mean, that guy's
gonna I'm gonna he's gonna knock downa bunch of majors. Oh yeah,
yeah, I'm I don't mind hisnumber this week either. He's at two
thousand, sitting right there with Bryson. Actually, we'll talk about it later,
(09:52):
but I like that. I actuallylike that matchup with those two guys.
I'm excited about the US Open.As if you can't talk like you're
jumping ahead, but yeah, it'shard not to. Yeah, we all
want to. I've got my visoron. I don't know if you can
see it with the lighting, butthis is from two thousand and five down
at Pinehurst number two. I wasthere and Michael Campbell went on to win
(10:13):
it. Tiger Woods finished runner upand finished last of the guys that made
the cut in putting for the week. Think about that he finished last and
putting and finished runner up like ashot out out of the you know,
a playoff to Michael Campbell, whowas virtually an unknown kind of player from
New Zealand. On the tour, there was an only PGA Tour win and
(10:35):
I was down there for one ofthe days. It was an awesome place
and it's even better now because theyhave the renovation happened years later at twenty
eleven. They redid this place andit's just spectacular. Yeah. I can't
wait to watch it. And we'regonna preview with Jason Sober will be joining
us shortly to give us some helpin taking a look at this and seeing
the line and seeing what's going tohappen. But we want to go to
(10:58):
some tea. I think it's timefor tea. We haven't had it.
We haven't had tea yet a while. Yeah, we need some tea.
Let's go down to Jupiter, Florida, where most tea starts. Well,
we talked about the tea. Whatwas it last week the week before where
we saw that on Mother's Day Roryhad the day after filed for divorce from
his wife, Erica. Well,it just came out that Rory and Erica
(11:20):
caught off their divorce. Just kidding, yeah, just trying to make you
know, maybe is it about thatPip. I just thought about that,
Maybe he's just trying to increase hisrankings. But I did, let's just
plan a faux divorce and you know, just get some extra time here and
get some more hits than Scottie sowe can get higher rankings in the pit.
(11:43):
But prior to finding out that theywere retracting the documents and they were
calling off the divorce, I did, you know, talk to a couple
of people down here in the area. And it's funny because a lot of
the rumors that we saw, like, oh, we saw that Rory was
you know, out in California acouple of days early. He was picking
up you know, starbucks, werefrom a restaurant for you know, Amanda
(12:03):
and this and that. Everyone's likeOry wasn't even out there. It was
all fake, like it was justyou know, And it's funny because trust
nothing, Harry, trust nothing.Yeah, And I thought this gossip,
you know, I'm like, Iknow, girls gossip and stuff. But
it's funny because a lot of theserumors were coming from men, and I
was like, oh, okay,So there's some people like within the industry
(12:24):
that were spreading some rumors too,but divorce called off. I don't know,
maybe it was maybe it's Pip,maybe it's because you know, Erica
saw Rory one again. Who knows, but they're saying it's for the health
of their family, their child. They think that it's best if they move
forward together. So we will seethere's no Rory and Amanda. Maybe there's
no Rory and Amanda going to livelike was rumored. It's just funny,
(12:48):
is it right that rumors just getstarted. But yeah, so that's the
tea on the Rory and Erica callingoff their divorce. Not so much to
you, but some news. NellyCourt officially has clinched her US Soul Hunt
Cup spot ten weeks before qualifying ends, So she's in there. I know,
Harry, you probably have been watchingand watching the girls and seeing who's
(13:11):
who's qualifying, and Nelly has officiallyclinched her spot. Yeah, I would
have thought it would have already happened. Behy now, yeah, all the
wins that she she's one of thehottest players in the world. I actually
had to go through and read likethe qualifications and how you can qualify and
what that's listed under. Because Ihad the same stance as you. I
was like, wait, I justassumed she had spot, like and if
(13:35):
not, like Captain's pick for sure, but with the rankings like number one
female in the world, Like whywould you not have that spot? But
she's now officially official. We knowthat John ram is out because of a
foot infection. He had an injectionlast week in Houston for the live event.
He had a withdrawal after six holes. He was wearing a flip flop.
I don't know if you guys sawthat. So wild to me.
(13:56):
He shows up, does the pressconference with the you think you're going to
be able to play in a majorand you can't even put a shoe on
for a press conference? Like whatthe heck is going on? It doesn't
make any sense. And I'm like, what kind of put infection? He's
like, there's a red dot inbetween my pinky toe and my other toe
or something like that scorpion out inArizona or something. I'm like, what
(14:18):
are you doing? Like I don'tunderstand, like something got in your sock
or a spider or I'm not surebut he's saying it's an infection. We
saw all over Twitter the flip flop. You know, he mentioned the flip
flop part of me that he couldn'teven put a shoe on. So he
is out. But you know whatI've I saw him when I was looking
(14:39):
at my DraftKings lineup, and there'ssomething that still irks me about. I
feel like he's just you know, they asked him, they said, you
know, how how are you feeling, and you know, how's your career
and this and that, because they'rejust trying to pull out of him,
like yes, I missed the PGAor whatever, and he's like, I
don't. I didn't write it down. But he basically said, like you
guys aren't going to get the quoteit out of me to headline like John
(15:01):
Ram is miserable. He's like, just keep it moving on. We don't
need him to say something. Weknow it. We look at the face.
He's molly miserable all the time. That makes the second flip flop for
John Ram. Now that makes apair of flip flops because he flip flopped
on live flip flop, back andforth, back and forth, guys,
(15:24):
Tiger has a new swing coach,or we could just say maybe player support.
A fifteen time major winner is seekingguidance from his fifteen year old son.
So I guess no one will giveyou more honestly than your children.
I can tell you that for hoursand knowledge. What was that your daughter's
like your wife's recording like exactly,Yeah, I'm good, Like, but
(15:50):
yeah, you know, I guessthe student has become the teacher, if
you will. So Tiger was quotedsaying I trust him with my swing and
my game. He's seen it morethan anyone else in the world. He's
seen me hit more golf balls thananyone, and I tell him what to
look for, especially with punting. So I'm like, okay, Like you
can say that and we can alllike hear that and everything else. But
(16:12):
you know, is he actually givingyou advice and feedback or is he just
you know, you wanted him insidethe robes to hang with you yet around
with all those guys this week andeverything. Yeah, but Tiger did go
on to say this and most maybeyou can relate to this too. He
(16:33):
goes, you know, the onething that just irks me though, he's
like he's just constantly like looking downat his phone, and that's all I
ever see. He's like, putyour phone down, look around, like
look where you're at, like takethis in. So that's where I thought
maybe Tiger was like, hey, like I'm trying to bring him out here
and be like you're at the USOpen with your dad. Put down your
phone, like look around and seewhat's happening. And maybe if he did
(16:53):
look around, he would see allof the plants that are at Pinehurst.
Smiley cough Men shared the hilariously longlists of plants on X and said,
you know, he's like, whatdo you want me to say? Like,
hey, his ball is near theyou know, did you guys see
(17:15):
this list? There's probably one hundredplants on there or so no, I
did not see that. The momentI saw the list, I thought of
I thought of you, Hair.I was like, Okay, this is
hilarious because I know in some tournaments, you know that they're you know,
they're mentioning you know, subject Xa lot of times. But I feel
like on the European Tour they're alwaystalking about like the wildlife and the plants
and everything else. And when Smileyput this out, he's like, look
(17:37):
what they gave us like, let'stalk about golf. Who cares about you
know, it's not masters. Wedon't need to talk about azelia. It's
like we're going to have a lotof native area. You'll hear that,
a lot grass, wire grass andnative area. Yeah, but if you
guys go on there and take alook at that. He kind of formulated
a tweet that was like, youknow, mentioning three or four and try
(17:59):
to incorporate it. So that waskind of funny. But yeah, I
think that kind of ends the tearight there, not too much about you
know, it was striking to me. We love Johnson Wagner on this podcast.
We're trying to get him on andhe did two walking talks yesterday that
I saw, one with Cam Smithright and one with Bryson. And you
think about like six months a yearago, it's like it's almost like they
(18:22):
would the Golf Channel and others wouldact like to live. Guys just didn't
exist, right. So I don'tknow if that was him pushing to go
with those guys or maybe they're justsaying like, hey, maybe they need
to kind of soften things out alittle bit. But it was pretty telling
to see him. You know, walking around on a major with those guys
back to back, right, wasvery cool. I'm getting the feeling,
you know that at that meeting inNew York and Rory you know, patched
(18:45):
in via like zoom or something. And I think there's a lot of positives
came out of that. I thinkI think they're getting close. I think
so. So I'm just a fanof the mustache. Oh Jeff Johnson.
Yeah, that's a caterpill or hilarious, like every time I watch like but
he you know, he tries tostill remain serious. It's good. We've
(19:07):
got to get him on. Harry. Let's talk about the golf game,
right. We've been doing some updates. I have a big week this week.
I have the Green Valley member guests. Wow, you guys have so
many member guests. It's like memberguest season up north, it is,
and everything shut down down here. The big one, Legacy Club is late.
It's in September, but luckily itgives me some time. But uh
yeah, that's this is this isthe one I look forward to every year.
(19:30):
Obviously, Greeney and I get outthere, try to try to do
something this year. You know,Harry set that as one of my goals
as to you know, I wishI would have been able to practice a
little bit more this week. I'vebeen I've been tied up unfortunately, but
you know, really looking forward togetting out there doing a practice round Thursday.
And I'm actually staying out of theUnion League. Yeah, talk to
Sean Palmer because I have to beout there for a couple of days.
(19:52):
So I'm curious to see, uhwhat that's what that's like staying out there.
When you stay there, you kindof have privileges as I go to
restaurants, you know, the practicefacilities. Yeah, I wonder if that
means I can get one of thoselessons that they offered to members. It's
part of the part of the planemergency. I was looking for emergency.
I'm like, John DeMarco, areyou available, Well, Chris Hansen's back
(20:15):
from Florida, is he Yeah, you might be able to slide one.
Wow. It makes sense because literally, like our clubs, I think we
reopened on Friday, but like thispast week, I was like, let's
go play nine. He's like closed. Wow. Degrees out Coop would let
him over to the Green Valley todo the teaching. You know, and
the facilities. I'm going guarantee that. Yeah, b yoc right, coach.
(20:40):
How about you, Hair, What'swhat's going on with the game.
I'm going to interject first, becausethe best short game session of season today.
So that was a text that Brandonand I got from Hair. So
I'll lead him with that and Letryfinish it up. I was not intended
for you guys too. That wasintended for Chris, Chris Hansen and John
Cooper. But I had texted youguys previously and I just sent it and
(21:03):
fired. I'm like, oh,shoot, they don't care about that?
Why I said that? But no? But you know what, it's funny
because he does. Because Brandon's like, well, like, you know,
we need to get up there, and I short game, well yeah,
he love it. Send it.Well, what happened was a lot of
my problems and I got many withshort game and shipping is deciding on what
(21:25):
shot to hit with what club. And I watched too much golf where I
think that I can hit like afifty eight degree wedge from you know,
fifteen feet off the green and putit to within you know, fifteen feet
to give me a chance to makea putt it's too much loft. So
what I decided to do was tosettle on a club where I could take
(21:47):
the club question off the table anddecide on just one shot, hit one
shot and just take it. Takethe club back further for each one if
I need more distance, let's say, but I've decided from tight lies,
I'm going with the fifty four degree. That's it. That's as high as
I will go. So it's it'staking a little guesswork out, you know,
(22:11):
as far as what shot to hit. The other thing clears the mind
was, Yeah. The other thingthough, thinking about it, you already
know if I'm really close to thegreen but don't want to put it,
I'm going to use my five hybridand bump it with the hybrid. Just
that's one of the most annoying thingsfor me is decided, I'm like I
want to chip it. Almost everytime Brandan's like you put this, and
(22:32):
especially with your your game, putthis, and I'm like, I want
to chip it, like and Ialways that's always in my head. You're
going to see a lot of thatthis week, exactly right, And that's
one of the things I'm looking forwardto because if you're into the grain,
the putting is really tough, right, or if you have a sprinkler head
or two in the way, youknow, right by the green, they're
always sitting right there. That hybridworks really nice because it kind of gets
(22:53):
the ball a little bit in theair, and you just got to work
on, you know, the littlebit of the technique and how hit it.
You don't want to hit it necessarilyoff the center of the face because
it will explode off the face. You got to hit it near the toe
and it takes a little bit ofthe omph out of it. So I've
been working on stuff like that.Yeah, decisions, right, that's for
me this week too, right,Like I'm a higher handicap player who's going
(23:15):
to get strokes. So there's timeswhere let's say you're five feet off the
green and the pin is maybe tenfeet you know, off off of where
you are, but there's plenty ofgreen behind you. It's like, no,
I'm not I'm not going to tryto pop one up in front of
it. Like, just get iton the green, get your two butt,
get your stroke and with a holeright like that that that decision making
(23:37):
process, sometimes you get like caughtup in the moment, like I can
make the shots, like no youcan't. No, I can't. I
you might be able to, rightexactly, but it's like you get one
chance, you know, yeah, but it is hard. Like I respect
the fact that you're practicing that becauseyou know, sometimes I think about that
it's a good idea. It's likeI haven't done that in a year,
Like I have no idea how that'sgoing to come off the club, Like
that's something you have to kind ofpractice to know, you know how it's
(24:00):
going to come off, how faryou have to take it back? Like
practice. That's the number one feedbackthat I hear all the time is brand's
always like you don't practice enough toget frustrated. You have no right,
absolutely no right. I was like, that's right, so we'll recap.
We'll recap it for next week. Our outing is completely sold out. There
(24:22):
are some people that were did notsign up in time, which we told
them to a million times. Ohyeah, I was getting let me in
and I'm like, you guys hadhow long? Yeah? I know I
was warning them because I saw it. I saw the numbers and I'm like,
oh man, this is you know, I don't want to put that
burden on the clover. They're theorder and work off cards that were there
for six hours or so. Butas you can see over my shoulder,
(24:47):
there's the championship for the long drivewinner. So I think that that got
some people excited our drafting contest. We have more spots left in there,
a couple, uh, one anddone. I went with Cam Smith Hair.
That's the guy I was talking about. Short guy. You need a
creative short game this week. He'sin my fantas team. Yeah. Yeah,
I just I like what he's uh, he's about this week. Yeah,
(25:08):
but that long drive the belt.Russ Hartongue is in the tournament,
okay, uh, the defending champright that this got him in the tour.
He had not he had not hedid win it last year, Yeah,
he won. He had not signedup yet. And then when I
posted this, he was like aA. Well. I called him out.
I said, the defending champ isnot coming back, you know.
(25:30):
Well. I think he was lowkey waiting for me to just be like,
hey, like squad's back, andI'm like, Russ, Well,
I heard he shot sixty five fromthe back tees at Doylestown last week.
So his game is on point.Oh and he got it. He cleaned
up last year, he got suit. He was like, you know that
(25:51):
was the greatest. How was hefirst person this year? Right? I
was like, wait, how didHarry not steal him? Like my team
like couldn't come. You know,I get maybe overlooking, you know Gabby
or you know mister Matthews. Butlike carried and scoop up Russ Hardtug,
what's happening here? I was asleepat the wheel. But he got engaged
(26:11):
too recently. So aig for RussBartong, see if he can. Yeah,
looking for that to take that belt. We have a lot going on
with this tournament, a lot,so just trying to figure it all out.
We talked a little bit about allAccess again. You know we hear

(26:55):
I was on a call with DanDillon this week, who's the director
of sales over there, about ourtrip to Scottsdale in December. Yeah,
so that they're going to be assistingon that trip and the wife so yeah,
looking forward but beautiful. All right, I'll tell you what. Let's
take a quick break and we'll beright back to preview the US Open.
(27:15):
All right, welcome back to SwingIt and Ding It. As promised,
we are joined by Jason Soble return. Guess Jason, I looked May twenty
twenty was the first time you jumpedon with us, and we're approaching episode
two hundred, so we appreciate youalways being there for us. Man.
Thank you, of course, ofcourse, great to be hon with you
guys. Guy. And then we'rewe're talking to Michael Collins, but he's
you know, he's big time.He was on part of my day this
(27:37):
morning, and we have to negotiate. Yeah, I told him we're going
to talk eagles most of the time. Anyway, I thought that would entice
him. But you know, youknow how good. Yeah, that's good
going. So you are on location, you've been there, talk to us
about the scene down there, what'sgoing on, what you're here, and
what you're seeing the course. Giveus the scoop. Yeah, this is
such a cool golf course. Imean, not like we haven't seen Pinehurst
(28:00):
before. I covered this event backin both five and fourteen, and you're
gonna see a lot of what wesaw back then, which I think hearkens
back to, like an older USOpen. Over the last decade what we've
seen at the US Open is essentiallythe big boys have an advantage if you're
a Bryson de Shambeau, if you'rea Dustin Johnson, Brooks Kepka, Gary
(28:21):
Woodland, even Wyndham Clark last year. The trend over the last decade has
been the big dudes who are bigenough to muscle it out of the rough
are going to have a distinct advantageat the US Open. I think this
year that changes because there really isno rough out here. There's vegetation,
there's plant life on the other sideof each fairway, but the fairways are
(28:42):
massive. I mean, I don'tsee a whole lot of players missing fairway
very often, quite honestly, VictorHoblins said yesterday, because most guys are
going to take an aggressive approach offthe tee and a conservative approach into the
greens. And that's what it's allabout on this golf course. It's all
about the approach into the greens, trying at the middle of the green two
(29:03):
butting for part and getting out ofthere and getting to the next hole.
Because these runoff areas outside of thegreens are they're pretty devilish and uh,
and these players are trying to figureout. Martin Kaimer once spent ten years
ago by eight here at Pinehurst, where he used putter everywhere. Some guys
are like, wow, I mightput some might use a wedge, might
use a four iron, might usea fairway metal. I think it's gonna
(29:26):
be really fun to see the varietyand see the different options that players have
out here. But this is gonnabe a good one. I think this
is gonna be different from some ofthe US opens we've seen, Like I
said, over the past decade. Now, I saw you put out on
X that you asked Justin reid Gofffor his favorite current Scotti Scheffler stat and
he said that Scotty leads a PGAtour and bogie percentages five point one percent
(29:47):
from the fairway. Talk about thatand talk about how that's gonna affect Scotty
this week, and if you thinkit will affect them at all. Yeah.
So I had Jay Ray on theshow yesterday and he gave us that
one. So I said, I'mgonna steal it and throw it on Twitter.
And look, I mean, it'seasy enough. Someone should tell Scotti
Scheffler like, hey, you almostnever bogie when you're in the fairway.
Won't you just hit in the fairwayevery time? And then you'll never make
(30:10):
Bogeye. It seems pretty easy tome. Look, I have had this
event targeted for a Scotti Scheffler playfor months now, for five six months,
and this is before even the greatrun that he's gotten on and obviously
coming in now with as good aform as we've seen from any professional golfer
since Tiger Woods in his prime,I have no doubt that Scotti Scheffler is
(30:33):
going to be in the mix,and I have a feeling he might be
holding another trophy at the end ofthe week, playing that well, I'm
not sure there's a golf course thatreally suits his game better than this one
where you can just ball strike itto the middle of the greens. Is
iron play is so far above everybodyelse's right now, that's gonna be huge,
And quite honestly, he does notget the credit for having a short
(30:56):
game that is as good as anybodyout there, if not better, Because
you know, we look at guyslike Jordan Speith and Cameron Smith and boy
I have really good short games.Scotty's probably better right now. I know
he's been criticized for quote unquote boringgolf. In my answer to that is
he's a boring player. It's aboring game if you do it the right
way, you hit it in thefairway, you hit it on the greens,
(31:18):
you make putts like any other sport. I was saying this on my
show yesterday. You want to winfootball games, you have to score more
than the other team. You wantto win baseball games, you have to
score more runs than the other team. You want to win in golf,
you have to play less than everybodyelse. You have to hit them ball
fewer times than everybody else. Soyeah, just by the nature of it,
it can be a little boring. Is Scotty too vanilla, too boring?
(31:40):
I don't know, but I feellike a lot of it matches up
on a golf course where you haveto play boring golf. He's a quote
unquote boring golfer. There's a lotof parallels that are going to help Scotty
this week. Yeah, Boring golfwins US Opens. And I found a
way to cobble around his thirteen thousanddollars salary on DraftKings this week with the
lineup, I'm finally just decided I'mputting him in there and I'll work it
(32:02):
out. But you brought up MartinKaimer back in twenty fourteen. He started
out sixty five sixty five in thattournament and just ran away from everybody using
potter from off the green. Butonly four players, I believe, in
the three US Opens that they've hadat number two have broken PARR. You
know you had Payne Stewart was oneunder to win, Michael Campbell was even
(32:23):
and won in five. What kindof scored to par do you anticipate this
week? Given how good Scotty Scheffleris. I was asked for my over
under for the total winning score bya noted golf outs maker the other day,
and I put it at two seventyfour and a half. So PARR
is uh seventy this week, sotwo eighty would be an even bar score.
(32:45):
I'm looking at somewhere in the fiveand a half. Under par doesn't
mean a whole bunch of guys aregonna be under bar. I just feel
like, and again, it's theScotty Scheffler conundrum that sort of he's the
outlier, and he sort of isgoing to move those lines. And I
just think that Scotty's playing so goodright now that I think it could be
that. I also think that TigerWoods made a great point in his press
(33:05):
conference yesterday saying that this could beone of those US Opens where the leading
score after day one is lower orequal to the leading score at the end
of the week on Sunday. Iexpect it to get really, really difficult
come this weekend, So as thisstarts to bake out, it's eighty five
ninety degrees today, it's going tobe throughout the entire week. We're not
(33:28):
expecting really any or much rain whatsoever, and so as long as we cut
off the water supply for the USGA, don't let them water down these greens.
I think we're going to have avery very fast, firm golf course
by the time we get to thisweekend. Awesome. And listen, we
know you're back to back to backand we want to be respectful of your
time, but just want to justcurious one last thing down the board a
little bit right, it's top heavy, it's the US Open. We know
(33:50):
it's usually creamy and crappie like Scott. Is there anyone down that board a
little bit that's standing out to youthat might have a chance of making making
some moves? So again, itcomes down to what you're king to bet
on it. And I mentioned thisto everybody, So if I'm looking for
another outright play, if I said, okay, you know I've got Scotty
and I just want someone else furtherdown the board. Look, I don't
love Jordan's Speed's game right now.I think he's he's injured a little more
(34:14):
than he's letting on. The consistencyhasn't been there, but he's game speed
off the tee. We know hisshort game is really good. When I
see sixty six to one as anumber next to his name. I'm like,
Okay, I could take him outright, because remember, with an
outright play you finished second place,it's a losing ticket, and so I
just I want to play that upsidefor an outright play, and I think
Jordan's speed at least has that kindof upside, whereas other players at the
(34:37):
same number, they might have ahigher floor lower awfterre looking for J.
M. Sepstraka, JT. PostIn, Cameron Smith. I mean,
those are all guys that I thinksort of fit the US Open bill.
That they aren't guys who are necessarilycoming out of nowhere, but you can
(34:59):
still get the numbers on them forthose finishing position market bets, and I
think that those guys make a wholelot of sense. Awesome, man,
thank you for hopping on. We'llget you off to your next and we'll
be watching, we'll be listening.Always appreciate you hopping on with us,
and we'll get you back on soon. You got it. Thanks guys,
appreciate it. Thanks Jason, Thankyou Jason Love hitting the green with sobl
(35:19):
and the Caddy on PJA to aradio man. I listened to that quite
often, so some of the statsfrom markt go ahead, Daniel, I'm
sorry. I'm sorry. Like Itold you, my brain's not functioning lately.
But on the tee there's sometimes, like you know, I'm hearing stuff
in conversation and then I forget tolike make a note of it for the
pod. But he mentioned jordan'speth andI'm gonna say stay away. I heard.
I was with some people over theweek and somebody got a text and
(35:43):
they said, Jordan'speed. The riskis so bad, like it could possibly
be career ending with other surgery maybeon the horizon, like Jordan's beed and
his wrist is not great. Soif I'm helping out at all, you
know, maybe not to go againstwhat Jason's saying, but I heard something
that maybe stay away from Speed, well that could explain that high value number.
(36:07):
Yeah, and ripped injuries. It'stough, you know, Yeah,
you have a back injury of thisor that, but a risk it's just
you know, yep, yeah, only so much you can do for that.
So I would advise against Jordan Speed, no doubt. Well, the
story will be Pinehurst number two right, one hundred and fifty six players to
cut top sixty plus ties the courseof course with Harry Mays. Talk to
(36:30):
us about this place, Harry andthe changes that have been made. Yeah,
Pinehurst number two of Donald Ross's specialto plan as a parse seventy this
week close to seventy six hundred yardsseventy five eighty eight. I believe it
is. But Core and Crenshaw camein in twenty eleven, I believe,
and restored this back to its originaland you know, look this this rustic
(36:50):
you know, you know setting whereit looks a little bit like Pine Valley.
You know, it's a lot ofsand and the wire grass they brought
in and all kinds of the differentplants that Smiley Kaufman was tweeting about.
So it's just has a just areally beautiful, like rough, rustic look.
And two par fives this week, the fifth and the tenth. The
tenth is playing well over six hundredyards, six hundred and seventeen. I
(37:14):
believe it'll max out at four parthrees six nine, fifteen and seventeen seventeen.
Has figured into much drama in thein the previous US opens there have
been three of them, and thesixth hole will play up to two hundred
and forty two yards from the tee. Now there are four par fours that
are over five hundred yards, thesecond, the fourth, the eighth,
(37:37):
and the sixteenth. But they keepsaying that this place will not play as
long as the yard is because aboutfirm and fast it is. And as
Jason Sobel mentioned, the landing areasare really wide for a PGA Tour event,
and in the US Open they're widefairways for the landing areas. The
challenge is hitting that next shot andgetting it to hold the green because the
(37:58):
landing areas to hold the green arelike it's like hitting it to the hoodier
car. It's no joke. Thefourteenth holes a par four four seventy three.
You gotta favor the right side ofthe fairway, avoid the deep fairway,
bunker down the left and the setof four traps on the right.
The approach missed longer right will bereally tough to get up and down.
It's one of those Crown turtleback greens. You're gonna hear a lot of that
(38:22):
this week because they're all like this, upside down cereal bowls, upside down
pie plates. There's many different waysto describe these things. The fifteenth holes
a par three two oh two yardslong and difficult, with a real pronounced
crown green with its narrow with afavor plate to the front of the green,
and it's really tough above the hole. That's another thing that's indicative of
(38:45):
Donald Ross courses. If you missabove the hole, forget it. Good
luck, good luck getting your potto stop. I was watching a video
today. I forget who posted iton Instagram, but they dropped the ball
on one of the greens right bywhere the pin was for a practice round.
It stopped and it just started toroll and started to roll and rolled
(39:05):
completely off the green into a nativearea like thirty yards away. I mean,
this does not look like a funplace for moose or I to go
play. It's gonna be really great. I think it was the fifth yet
and Johnson Wagner was on there toothe other night for the Golf Channel and
talking about how crazy. And that'sone of the par fives, so that'll
be a really interesting hole to watch. The sixteenth holes a par four.
(39:29):
It plays as a par five forthe resort. If you go there.
It's five hundred and twenty eight yards. One of the toughest holes on the
course. For previous opens, theideal t shot is right to left followed
by a left to right approach tothe center of the green. They got
bunkers everywhere. The seventeenth hole parthree two oh five pivotal hole in previous
opens. Like I mentioned, PayneStewart and Michael Campbell each made final round
(39:52):
birdies to either take the lead orseal the win. Payne Stewart sealed it
over Phil Mickelson with a birdie onseventeen. Right side hole locations are the
most difficult on that hole. Inthe eighteenth hole iconic as you come up
the hill to the clubhouse par fourfour hundred and fifty one yards a narrow
fairway for Pinehurst purposes, native areason either side. Avoid the long deep
(40:15):
fairway bunker down the right. Alsostay clear of the green side bunker short
right. Payne Stewart, you know, hit it off the fairway in the
final round back in ninety nine, had to pitch out and then get it
on the green and it made itfifteen to eighteen foot plot to seal the
wind for par So I'm really lookingforward to this. I love the look
(40:36):
of this type of golf course withall the sand and the wiregrass and everything.
I just think it looks really beautiful, burned out, baked out awesome.
It's going to make for some reallygood golf by Wyndham. Clark dropped
his borderline quote about the course andthe condition and everybody else saying greens are
scary, they're firm fast. Imean, this could possibly be one of
(40:59):
the artist like second shot golf coursesthat they play this year. I'm pretty
excited to see some really good golf. But if we have a moment,
I will just bring up Smiley's tweetreal quick. How's that lie down there?
Ask? Well, it's sitting nearsome Chinese forget me not, But
I'd say more of the ball ison the Mexican clover in his backswing.
He may have some false fox gloveto worry about, but the big concern
(41:23):
is a follow through in the morningGlory the less has like ninety five like
plan hilarious. Smiley's funny. Ienjoy him. I agree, really is
well, we talk about it.You know a top player and make sure

now. I'm on brooks Kopka formy one and done. I just like
(43:36):
to I like him the harder thegolf course is because he's just you know,
it's not going to get in hishead. You heard what Danielle said
about Wyndham Clark talking about the golfcourse. It sounds like the golf course
is already in Wyndham Clark's head.So it's like you avoid a guy like
that. Brooks Kepka seems to stepup for this, and he's due in
a major because he hasn't played verywell in the first two. So I
(43:58):
like that. Henley I think hasa perfect golf game for this golf course
and for a US Open. He'sonly sixty nine hundred dollars on draft kings,
so he's a great guy to putin your lineup, you know,
which allows you to pick some ofthe guys up near the top of the
board. He's plus eight thousand rightnow to win on draft kings. I
like him in a top ten atplus five fifty. Cameron Smith, I
(44:21):
love him in a top twenty atplus one fifty. I think this could
be a really good place for him. It's very Australia esque, you know,
with the way that it's like aroyal Melbourne kind of place, and
he's just he just excels around andon the greens, just added min MOULEA
to my lineup. Did just change? Yeah? Oh wow. Hedeki Matsuyama,
I think has a perfect game forthat when and an iron player,
(44:43):
this guy, this guy can dropon me eighteen moon. Yeah, he
can dry it. He can dropan eight iron from the moon right right
at the pin. I don't thinkI saw one of his shots last week.
And he and he comes in Teight yeah, very very under the
rad RT eight hangs around at plustwenty plus one forty four top twenty.
David Pooge is a guy from theLive Tour, a young Spaniard who's a
(45:05):
stud. Uh. He's one ofthe guys that that you want to see
back on the PGA Tour. Plusone eighty for a top forty, and
I threw him in my DraftKings lineup. He's down in the five thousand range.
So he's a really good look uhto uh, you know, be
able to put guys up the boardin two matchups. I like Xalaturus at
minus one ten over Cam Young andI like Henley at minus one twenty over
(45:29):
Connors. Did you look at thewoods make or miss the cut numbers?
No? Oh, my to makethe cut plus two twenty. It's one
of the most popular bets on theboard because people, hey, they want
to see Tiger make the cut,and you're gonna it's good value plus two
twenty one fifty sixty sixty there, that's a lot of guys that are going
to be sent home, right, makes the cut? Well, you know
(45:52):
what you have to risk to sayhe misses the cut minus three thirty.
So they don't think he's gonna makethe cut obviously, So everybody's betting yes
he will because it's a plus number. Yeah, how about that? Wow?
Interesting? Well, we talked aboutI like Daniel Berger this week in
a top ten at eighteen hundred.Guy loves the Bermuda greens, tight lies,
knows how to play, has someexperience, game is trending up,
(46:14):
and there's value for now. Ifeel like he always places in the top
ten in a major. Right, take him in the top ten at four
fifty. I'm taking Cam Smith forthe win at five thousand. I think
he gets it done at Ground ofGreens this week. And then kind of
what Jason Sobel was saying, Right, a guy like Bryson, I'm gonna
take Oberg minus one twenty over Bryson. Right, you can't power it out
of what were they petunias. Idon't think you shouldna be able to do
(46:35):
that. I don't know that itis a great golf person. No,
No, And the other one youtalk about short game wizards, Jason Day,
Harry, you talked about it ina matchup, even Money over bent
on. So very curious to seeif if some of these guys can you
gotta be creative. There's gonna besuch cool like golf shots to watch this
week. I can't wait. Yep, great stuff. Thank you to Jason
(46:57):
Soble, Danielle Countdown, clou IsOn. Hope to see you next week.
But we will see. Yeah andyeah, another week from now,
we'll see maybe maybe. All right, send us a note on on X,
give us the date, give usthe date and the weight, and
we'll send you a prize. Allright, let's get let's get it going.
(47:19):
Let's get it. Be back nextweek to recap it. All but
listen, swing it and ding it
