You have Moose May's and Matthews and this pre West
Coast Swing Chili Day in the Delaware Valley Harry, as
we commiserated before the show started, as we talked to
our our friends down in the Jupiter area and Danielle
(00:56):
has company down there. Today we are joined by Tom Stickney,
lead teaching profess at Jonathan's Landing at Old Trail.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
Welcome to swing it and ding of Tom.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
How's it going?
Speaker 5 (01:04):
Thank you very much?
Speaker 6 (01:05):
Everything's going great weather, it's nice. Ready to talk golf
and have some good have a good old time.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Welcome to the show. We like to start with folks
that are working in the business. It's always interesting to
us to kind of hear your golf journey, right, how
you got started. We'll get to where you are now.
But what took you there? How did it get there?
What was the idea about? Hey, this is what I
want to do for a living.
Speaker 5 (01:27):
You know, it's funny.
Speaker 6 (01:27):
I we had a tour event in our hometown called
the FedEx Saint Jude Classic, and we were fortunate enough
to live on the fifteenth tee, so I would walk
over there when I was a kid, when I was twelve, thirteen, fourteen,
watch these guys you know, and hit these shots, and
I said, you know, that looks like a cool way
to make a living. So I decided that that's what
I wanted to do. So I practiced really hard and
(01:48):
went to college and played played golf in college and
tried to play a.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
Little bit on the mini tour. And then realize, you
know something, and I can't tell you what. These guys
are really good.
Speaker 6 (01:58):
But I'm a whole lot better standing there on the
lesson to you watching people hit two irons and three
irons at.
Speaker 5 (02:04):
Four irons than I am hitting on myself.
Speaker 6 (02:06):
So what I decided to do is find an alternative
method to keep me in the golf business.
Speaker 5 (02:11):
And I had a.
Speaker 6 (02:11):
Great friend of mine that was looking for a teacher,
and you know, you didn't know what I didn't know,
what I didn't know, and he said, you want to teach,
and I did it and it was love at first sight.
And I have done everything. I can't even imagine doing
anything else. I can't even imagine what life would be
like if I hadn't found teaching golf soon. So it's
it's been a lot of fun. So I've got a
(02:32):
chance to see you.
Speaker 7 (02:34):
Well, Tom, take us through some of your stops, right,
so you're relatively new to Jupiter Jonathan's landing all trail,
but talk about some of the courses, some of the locations,
some of the countries that you've been at previously.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:46):
So I started off in Memphis, taught a couple of
years there and figured out that I don't like winters,
so I immediately went down to the sand dustin on the
Panhandle of Florida. We called LA for Lower Alabama. That's
where I'm from down there nine to eleven happened, and
decided that I needed a live bit more stabilities. So
I ended up going to Naples. And then I figured
(03:07):
out in Naples that a lot of people don't stay
in Naples during the summer. So I started splitting my
time between Naples and in Vail, Colorado with club at
Cordiera out there, and it was a wonderful, wonderful seven
ten years and year run there. And then decided, you
know what, driving from Florida all the way to Vail.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
Is a lot is too far. It was a thirty
two hour trek.
Speaker 6 (03:27):
So I decided that you know what, whole Palm desert
things sounds pretty good.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
So I ended up going to Palm Desert in Vale.
Speaker 6 (03:34):
Started doing that for many many years, and then I
got a good chance to run some golf academies in Mexico.
So I was in Portabayre to Mexico for five years
and then ain't Willa in the Caribbean for a season.
So I've gotten a chance to see a lot of
things and go a lot of places.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Well, tell us about your style of instruction. What type
of a teacher are you? Do you teach a certain swing,
or do you take what the player has and just
try to.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
Mold it and make it better.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Do you break them down or do you just sort
of go with what they got and tweak it.
Speaker 5 (04:06):
You know, it depends on how mean they are to me.
Speaker 6 (04:08):
If they're really mean, then what I do is I'll
break them down a week in.
Speaker 5 (04:10):
Their grip and I'll beat them. Everything's great now, you know,
I try to.
Speaker 6 (04:15):
In the country club setting, you tried desperately to work
with what they have. You had people that have spent
all their life, you know, running their companies, making money,
doing the right things. And so for me to come
in at fifty sixty seventy years of age and really
trying to reinvent the wheel, it probably is not going
to work for ninety percent of the clientele. So we
(04:35):
do work with what they have, and that's always the best.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
Thing to do.
Speaker 6 (04:39):
You know, Every now and again, I'll get some a
younger guy that wants to come in and hit balls
and play in practice and do all that. So when
you have those type of players that have those type
of goals, you have a little bit of more autonomy
to mess with a few things and be a little
bit more aggressive with a few things because you know,
the playability, the playability aspect is there, but were that's
(05:00):
kind of secondary. So for me, it's always worked with
what the player has. I'm big into physiology, making sure
that you can move in a way that your body
can allow you to move away where you can actually swing.
So you know, the TPI is always a good way
to go. You know, we've got Joey d down here
and a lot of good things like that. So I
think that the fitness side always, always is a big help.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
So if you've a couple of fitness in the golf,
you know, I think that would describe me in a
nutshell very cool.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
So Golf Magazine top one hundred teacher in America for
only fifteen years. You know, no big gil Golf dies.
Top seventy five international instructors.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
What's that mean to you? Right, you put a lot
of work into this.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
When you get recognized as one of the best in
the game, what's that mean to you?
Speaker 5 (05:43):
You know, it's funny.
Speaker 6 (05:44):
Some people set off and they wanted to have multiple
locations in golf schools.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
Other people wanted to teach tour pros. I always wanted
to be top one hundred.
Speaker 6 (05:51):
I always thought that for me, I love to write,
I love to do the videos, and love to do
all that stuff. And so for me being top one
hundred and be in the magazines, and you have to remember,
you know, twenty years ago was that was the big thing.
You know, if you weren't in the magazine, nobody saw
your name and nobody saw your technique and things like that.
Speaker 5 (06:11):
So it was really.
Speaker 6 (06:13):
Cool to work off my way up onto the lists
and from there, you know, as the business changed and
it becomes more you know, internet based and social media based,
it's been fun to see that new progression. So for
me being top one hundred and be a top seventy
five international was all.
Speaker 5 (06:32):
I ever set out to do.
Speaker 6 (06:33):
And I still look at those names on that list
and go, I can't believe I'm one of those guys
on that list. I mean, they're just there's some legends
out there, and then for me to be included in
those legends, I'm just humbled beyond belief.
Speaker 7 (06:46):
Very cool, Yeah, very cool, Tom. This one's going to
be for our listeners. If you had to recommend one
piece of tech or equipment for like an amateur golfer,
what would that piece of equipment or tech be that's.
Speaker 6 (06:58):
A great question, you know, well, I think the biggest
thing would be a rangefinder. You know, it's kind of
a one that's out there a little bit because most
people are you know, yeah, I'd love for everybody to
have a track man or you know, launch monitor. But
but I think a range finder. You can get a
lot done with a range finder. Figure out how far
you hit things, figure out you know, your your distances
(07:18):
and and things like that. I think that really helps
your practice, take your practice to the next level. A
lot of times I see people that are just banging balls.
They don't have any idea how far it goes, how
far this shot goes or that shot goes. So I
think a range finder would be you know, it's a
very nominal expense for a very maximum.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
Output, the type of private product unless.
Speaker 7 (07:41):
You're like my husband and lose nine of them a
year or so, put your name in the phone.
Speaker 8 (07:45):
Number on them.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
But that's interesting, right, Tom, because you don't see people
using it much for practice, right You see them us
out doing around, But yeah, I mean getting your your
You're either.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
Lying where you are on the range, where the distances are.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Sometimes they're not right or you don't have them, but
you know the back and getting that it's a great tip.
Speaker 6 (08:02):
Yes, no question, I think you know, I think that
the people don't have you know, everybody, you know, everybody
hits their drives to eighty, everybody hits their.
Speaker 5 (08:08):
Seven nine to one right right?
Speaker 3 (08:12):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
And I think that is the biggest thing is learning
all your your numbers.
Speaker 6 (08:16):
Would really help you to be a little bit more
efficient on the golf course.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
What's the overall age range of your your clientele currently
and if you're starting out with a with a beginning kid,
you know, young kid golfer, is your recommendation to start
from the green and work your way back, you know,
as you know with with short game first, I think so.
Speaker 6 (08:36):
I think when you have the younger kids, I think
it's it's always good to start them from the green
and work your way backwards. There's some wonderful, wonderful junior
programs around that have that have really made a difference
Operation thirty six, So it's a good place to start
for the kids. My age of clientele is anywhere from
you know, twenty years old all the way up to
(08:56):
probably eighty.
Speaker 5 (08:58):
I would say that I spent a lot of time.
I'm in the forty to sixty year old range.
Speaker 6 (09:03):
We have a lot our members Our average age of
our membership is probably pushing probably pushing sixty right here
at Jonathan's landing, and it's getting.
Speaker 5 (09:11):
Younger every day.
Speaker 6 (09:12):
And so I'm starting to see an influx of more
of the younger, really good players that are in their
twenties and thirties and even younger forties that are that
are coming into the club.
Speaker 5 (09:23):
You know there through the.
Speaker 6 (09:24):
Junior memberships and things like that, but mainly the older
retired golf clientele that's that you see the standard South
Florida club is kind of my normal clientele.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
Gotcha.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Let's talk about technology, right. It's obviously a huge part
of what you do and what a lot of people do.
There's been more talk lately about is it sometimes too much?
Where where do you stand then? How do you kind
of take that approach where you don't want it to
be analysis paralysis?
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Right?
Speaker 3 (09:50):
But you want to have the data, you want to
be able to utilize the data. What's your balance like
in just having people feel it and see it and
then using the technology to support that.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
You know, that's a great that's a great thing.
Speaker 6 (10:01):
And you know, twenty years ago people, you know, when
the first launch monitors came out, and people are like, WHOA,
I don't need to know all that information, you know,
and now you can't get a fitting. If you had
a fitting without a launch monitor, you'd look at them
like they had two heads. I use technology, whether it
be track Man, three dmotion analysis, force plates, you know,
all video, all that and all my lessons to some degree,
(10:25):
what I feel like my job as as the instructor
is the laison between the proper mechanics and what you're feeling.
And so my job is to insulate the player from
all the stuff they don't.
Speaker 5 (10:36):
Need to know.
Speaker 6 (10:37):
And so there's a lot of things within technology that
they don't need to know.
Speaker 5 (10:40):
That's that's more for me.
Speaker 6 (10:42):
And I always say that the numbers are watching me
on track Man rather than watching watching you the student,
because if I say, you know, wiggle your left ear
at the.
Speaker 5 (10:50):
Top, and that's going to do X, Y and Z,
you know, all of a sudden.
Speaker 6 (10:53):
The numbers should get better, the ballflight should get better,
and things like the in emotionalysis should get better. If
it does not, then obviously there's there's a disconnect. And
so I think technology, if utilized in the right way,
can be can be a very fortuitous process. But if
you're in the wrong way, I think you can you
can tire your students up in knots.
Speaker 5 (11:12):
And we all know teachers.
Speaker 6 (11:13):
And we all know students that have gotten tied up
in notts because they've spent too much time delving into
trying to become a robot as opposed to realizing that
these are just trends. We just want to track trends
and kind of see kind of where we are and
go from there. So I'm a very big component with technology,
but you have to use it in the right way.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
Cool.
Speaker 7 (11:34):
This is a Philly bass show, although I am down
here in Jupiter originally from Philadelphia.
Speaker 8 (11:39):
We always do ask all of our guests have.
Speaker 7 (11:42):
You played in Philadelphia and if you or the Gap region,
and if you have, what is your favorite course in
the area.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
You know, I have not been Philadelphia. I have not.
I know, I know it's terrible.
Speaker 6 (11:53):
You know, I'm really just a bad guest, But you
know I've heard great things about for an amazing thing
about all the golf courses up there, so I know
it's it's a wonderful, wonderful.
Speaker 5 (12:04):
Mecca of golf.
Speaker 6 (12:04):
So hopefully one day, maybe this summer, I'll get to
be to go up there and play a little golf
and have some fun.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
But sounds like a home and home. We need a
home and home here.
Speaker 8 (12:13):
Yeah, we'll burn you up. Well, let's ask you, and
let's let's ask you an alternate question.
Speaker 7 (12:17):
What is the most overrated course that you've played, one
that you were really looking forward to playing. You thought
it was going to be amazing. You got there, you played,
and you were like, Eh, that wasn't that great.
Speaker 5 (12:26):
You know, that's a great question.
Speaker 6 (12:28):
I hate to say this, but but I thought, and
this was before the Core Friendship redesign, so and I'm
sure it's a thousand percent better. I was underwhelmed with
Pineer's number two, and you know, all the greens are
bulled up, you know, and I knew that was going
to happen. But the layout was kind of old, and
it was it was a little a little, a little tired. Obviously,
(12:51):
resort like that gets, you know, it gets a ton
of play, especially number two gets a ton of play.
Speaker 5 (12:56):
Played it right before the Open when Pain wonted so
you know, it's that's a long long time ago. But
but what I have seen from.
Speaker 6 (13:04):
The resign with Port Frenshaw is they've meet it a
lot more sthetically pleasing. They've they've they've tightened up a
lot of things, and I think from just what I've seen.
Speaker 5 (13:13):
That would not be the case going back to it now.
Speaker 6 (13:16):
I think that was kind of an old school, old
school design, and I called it in the old school.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
So to speak.
Speaker 8 (13:23):
So we got to get you to Pineers number two
and to the Philly region.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
We add to the list.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
I got one more.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
I know a lot of people are like me or
on YouTube looking at golf instruction and often what's your
take on your students searching stuff out on YouTube? Because
I know Tiger Woods says stay off YouTube.
Speaker 5 (13:45):
You know, it's it's like anything. I mean, you have
to take everything with a great assault.
Speaker 6 (13:49):
Everything in life deals with moderation, and ors golf instruction.
Speaker 5 (13:53):
On YouTube, you've got to look at it with with
some moderation.
Speaker 6 (13:56):
There's some great content out there, and there's some great
instructors out there, and then there's some stuff that people
are putting out there that's that's incorrect or it's not
quite the right in the right methodology that that will
help most players. So I think it's like anything else.
Ask your home professional, Hey, who are the couple guys
I should look at? Who are a couple of girls
I should look at? And and who most who most
(14:20):
agrees with what you teach? And there's a you know,
if you don't have your own content out there. So
I think while it can be it can be dangerous.
Knowledge is power, and I think that if you use
that knowledge correctly, I think you'll be in good shape.
So I think you just need to figure out who
who works best within the realm of what you're trying
to do.
Speaker 8 (14:38):
It's a great answer.
Speaker 7 (14:39):
Yeah, ask your coach, you know who if they don't
have their own content, who's similar to your approach?
Speaker 8 (14:45):
Because I want to look that. That's a great answer.
Speaker 4 (14:47):
Yeah, yeah, no doubts it.
Speaker 6 (14:48):
I think people are gonna they're going to gravitate towards
looking at that. I mean, it's you know, it's what
your it's what you're fun is and and before you
know it, you're off on a rabbit hole and YouTube,
Instagram and Facebook and you know in an app has gone.
Speaker 5 (15:02):
By in the doctor's office.
Speaker 6 (15:03):
But you've you're learning golf, so if you can use
that time productively, life would be pretty good.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Well, it looks like you landed at a great spot
in Jonathan's landing at Ultra. You some local guys that
did some design there with mister Hanson Wagner's, isn't that right?
Speaker 6 (15:19):
And we did and you know, they did a redesign
here since August and we have redesigned. We have fifty
four holes and they just spent the last twelve months
fourteen months redesigned in our village golf course. So we
have three basically bring new golf courses with all a
couple of different designers and in the great shape and
(15:41):
and it's been really really neat to see the see
how we are fortunate enough to have three radically different
golf courses. It's not like going to some places where
you see the same designer and you.
Speaker 5 (15:51):
See the same three or four routings.
Speaker 6 (15:54):
So you know, for us, the match, the medal and
the village were all totally different dynamics. And so for
our level of players and for our our level of gifts,
it gives them a great test uh to be able
to come out and play the courses that that they
can play and then play them in the in the
in the order in which they have some fun. You know,
we don't want to beat them up too bad. It's
(16:15):
not like playing PG West Stadium, but.
Speaker 5 (16:19):
A hard time every now.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
Awesome, Well, thank you for joining us. Well, the three
of you guys will be at the PGA show. I
will not be right, but I hope you guys have fun.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
You know, that's fine, no big deal.
Speaker 7 (16:29):
Yeah, so we have a super busy schedule. But Harry,
we have to make sure that you and Tom connect
in person too.
Speaker 8 (16:34):
We'll see that up.
Speaker 6 (16:36):
Love it, well, you'll have a one to it much
and uh go hit them straight?
Speaker 4 (16:42):
All right, thank you Tom.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
Let's take a quick break and we will be right
back with some more. All right, welcome back to swing
it and ding it. Nice talking to Tom Stickney, another
great golf.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Coach in your area, Danielle. I mean, it's it's so
funny too, because it's like.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
You learn about these places down there that we don't
have a ton of knowledge about every single place.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
But there's so much.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
There's so many places where it's like, hey, we have
fifty four holes, we have.
Speaker 8 (17:07):
Any great courses?
Speaker 4 (17:08):
Yeah, courses right.
Speaker 7 (17:09):
It's like, so if we rewind the show back probably
like five or six episodes, that's one of the days
that I went out there and I told you I
hit it at Old Trail into this like I don't
even know, Like I was going to say church View,
but that's not how to describe it. This bunker that's
like just silly. And Brandon walked over and I was
like what. He literally took my ball out of the bunker,
grabbed a fist full of sand and just goes great
(17:31):
shout out and I was like, what are you doing.
Speaker 8 (17:33):
He's like, there's no way you would have hit.
Speaker 7 (17:35):
It ten times and not gotten out of that because
there there was a face in the front of the bunker,
like the bunker was maybe like a foot and half
wide and then like a four you know, front and
in front of it.
Speaker 8 (17:45):
And he's like, just just.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
I think, I think, I think.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
With a sixty degree.
Speaker 7 (17:52):
Which yeah, yeah, that thing when it came out spinning.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
My nephew had a membership, like a junior membership Jonathan's
landing really years ago, and it's a great, great spot.
I've never been there, but he used to rave about it.
Speaker 7 (18:06):
Yeah, like you said, there's you know, three different spots,
but the old trail is something special.
Speaker 8 (18:11):
So yeah, just started working with Tom last week.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
What are you looking to do for him? Like, what
does he what does he come to you for? And
what's your recommendation for Tom?
Speaker 4 (18:21):
He's looking for the Jason Bail treatment.
Speaker 8 (18:23):
Yeah, yeah, in a sense.
Speaker 7 (18:25):
So just our business obviously naturally as things are are going,
is taking on a heavier golf presence. So our golf
clientele is just building more and more. So we have Jason,
we have Brad, Tom Mike out of Admirals. We're going
to start working with him, Grove of Brush. We're working
with them. So a couple other clients that we haven't
rolled out yet, and some people don't.
Speaker 8 (18:47):
Want everyone to know that we're working with them.
Speaker 7 (18:49):
Because they want to make it look like, you know
that they're doing that social So we take a different
approach for everybody. Obviously, with Brad, I don't overproduce his
stuff and make it look like you know, somebody his.
Speaker 8 (19:01):
Age is doing it. And I use the tone when I'm.
Speaker 7 (19:04):
Writing his copy as what I think Brad would say
and how he would say it. So when Tom came
to me, he just said look, I hardly know anything
about Instagram.
Speaker 8 (19:14):
I really don't know what stories are.
Speaker 7 (19:16):
And when I asked him, you know certain things, He's like,
I'm not sure. Can you just take over and make
me look professional and polished. So he's trying to build
his book. You know, he was in Mexico and he
came here and now he's in Jupiter, Florida. So we're
building his reputation. We're doing some seo to get him
pop up naturally when people search golf instruction in the
(19:36):
Jupiter area.
Speaker 8 (19:36):
So we took over last week.
Speaker 7 (19:38):
We already did a content photo shoot and video shoot
with him, So follow him Tom Stickney on Instagram, on
x on Facebook, follow along with his stuff.
Speaker 8 (19:48):
We have some great content rolling out.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
He's looking good in that Sunday read out there.
Speaker 8 (19:53):
Good stuff.
Speaker 7 (19:53):
Yeah, and Harry, if you want to, you know, we
have some YouTube shorts we're going to be rolling out
and then his reels too.
Speaker 8 (20:00):
And looking for instruction. Yeah, you know, we.
Speaker 7 (20:02):
Did a basic one on grip the other day, but
I said, let's start out with some basic tips for
like an amateur golfer, and then we'll.
Speaker 8 (20:07):
Work work it up the videos in terms of skill levels.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
So watching matching up the v's. I was, I was
matching up the v's to my grip.
Speaker 4 (20:14):
I paid ten good.
Speaker 5 (20:16):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
I just need to, you know, consistent instruction.
Speaker 8 (20:19):
I think incorporate it.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
I think I could work well with a guy like Tom.
Tom Stickney Golf is his instagram. That's right, Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 7 (20:27):
All right.
Speaker 8 (20:27):
Well, once you guys move down here, then you know
you have you.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
Have we have options.
Speaker 7 (20:31):
Yeah, putting, instructure, instruction, you got short game, you got everything.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
Yeah, yeah, no doubt about it.
Speaker 8 (20:39):
Right.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
Let's let's spill some tea while we're here.
Speaker 7 (20:41):
Let's spill some t all right, Let's start off with this.
Butch Harmon on the state of the PGA Tour. He said,
when you turn on TV on Saturday and Sunday and
you look at the leader board and the novice golf
fancies names and has no idea who any of them are,
He's like because it's not any of the superstars.
Speaker 8 (20:58):
He's like that to me, is.
Speaker 7 (20:59):
Well, Butch Scott, he's injured. Hadecki played Keegan played Maverick
played Jordan's injured. JT's out because he has.
Speaker 8 (21:07):
An infinite home.
Speaker 7 (21:08):
Rory always starts the season in Dubai. It's a tradition.
Most of us know that Billy Horschel played, he missed
the cut, Burger played, Corey Connor's played, Cam Davis played,
Luke played, Yeah, Joel Damon played, Harry's English played.
Speaker 8 (21:22):
They all missed the cut. So let's maybe look back
on that.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Butch and he's just talking about the live guys, right,
I mean he should have just said it, right.
Speaker 8 (21:31):
We want to see Bryson and Brooks.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
You know I too, We all do, right, yeah, yep, but.
Speaker 8 (21:39):
You know right now it is. It is what it is.
But staying on the topic of Live, no shocker here.
After all, he does play on the Live.
Speaker 7 (21:47):
John Ram says, I think at this point to not
give Live World ranking points and the credibility it deserves,
I think it's wrong.
Speaker 8 (21:53):
Most hair we talked about this.
Speaker 7 (21:55):
Last week, curious to know what rom thinks like would
be right or fair in terms of structure, because we
said this last week we don't know, and they got
it's not our.
Speaker 8 (22:03):
Job to figure it out.
Speaker 7 (22:04):
We do think they deserve something, but when they're not
playing four days y'or not, you know, having cuts too.
Speaker 8 (22:11):
Yeah, it's tough. So flushing at Golf last.
Speaker 7 (22:16):
I think this past Friday, they released a talk they
did with Eugeno Chichera Karakara about his experience with Live Golf,
So you can read that full article.
Speaker 8 (22:29):
But I went through and kind of pooled.
Speaker 7 (22:30):
A couple of highlights for you because he was, I guess,
for lack of better words, throwing him under the bus
in a sense.
Speaker 8 (22:36):
But it's always funny because the guys who are maybe up.
Speaker 7 (22:40):
You know, to possibly losing their you know, their spot
on their team, or maybe not doing extremely well or
kind of always the guys that that talk out against Live,
you never see, you know, Brooks or Bryson saying anything
bad about Live. But let's look at one of the
key points here. After three seasons playing on Live, his
motivation is to quote Rind and get better and to
say I can be a PGA Tour player one year
(23:03):
or one day.
Speaker 8 (23:04):
Part of me.
Speaker 7 (23:05):
He spoke about the implications of winning on the PGA
Tour compared to the stakes of Live. He's like, quote,
I see what it's like to win on the PGA
Tour and how your life changes, how you get major access,
you get rankings on Live. Nothing changes. There is only money.
It doesn't matter if you finish thirtieth or if you
finish first. Only money, So I think it really matters,
you know. I think Harry would thrive on live. You know,
(23:28):
he'd be like, yeah, it's just money.
Speaker 8 (23:29):
I don't care. I don't got him as a gut.
Let's do this right, hair, Like you'd be down for that.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
Well, I mean I'm down for free money, don't don't
get me wrong. But you know, this guy actually won
a live event back in twenty twenty two, and he
also won on the Asian Tour in twenty twenty three,
and he was promised world Golf ranking points and majors access.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
When he signed up.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
So let's just get Joes to show you what these
guys were being told, you know, by Greg Norman or
whoever whoever else. You know, Hey, we're gonna have world
ranking points. It's come on over, here's guaranteed money, you'll
get to play in the majors.
Speaker 4 (24:03):
That's all bs.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
Yeah, and now a lot of these guys are are
are bent, And I don't blame him.
Speaker 8 (24:09):
Yep, he feels betrayed, you know.
Speaker 7 (24:11):
He said when I joined LIV, they promise World Golf,
World Golf ranking points and majors.
Speaker 8 (24:16):
But it didn't happen, and I trusted them.
Speaker 7 (24:18):
So, you know, a lot of these guys coming out
and hopefully, you know, they do fight for it and
they figure something out and they do get some points,
and we can't see them in the majors.
Speaker 8 (24:26):
But right now, you know, we just got to wait
and see what.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
And he's apparently suspended for a year, like he's sort
of in limbo with not really being able to play.
He's he's trying to get back on the PGA Tour
and he's under some sort of one year suspension, which
I found.
Speaker 8 (24:43):
Odd, suspension from live or from the.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
No from you can't play in the PGA Tour.
Speaker 8 (24:48):
Yeah, I think that's been in place though for a while.
Speaker 7 (24:51):
I remember, like they said, like you left, like there
has to be some implications, right, Like I mean a.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
Year, you're going to take a guy's livelihood away for
a year, because if.
Speaker 7 (24:59):
You're if you're working for me, and then you yeah.
Speaker 8 (25:05):
Oh I have a two year now I could be
within the thirty mile rating.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
Oh I'm not working for you, sister. You gotta be
kidding me.
Speaker 8 (25:12):
I'm smart.
Speaker 7 (25:13):
Yeah, No, Because I don't want someone to like you know,
taking everything I taught him and doing a pop up down.
Speaker 8 (25:18):
The road like, nope, you signed that no compete before you.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
I don't know if you're gonna touch on this on
the on the Rory story today with the Irish fella
Tom McKibben, who grew up at the same golf club
where I did.
Speaker 8 (25:29):
Last week.
Speaker 4 (25:29):
First you talked about him last year. Yeah, but Rory was.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
Talking about like all his quotes are coming out today
that he's like really saying kind of he feels disappointed
where he felt like he gave me advice and all
indications say this kid signing.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
He's gonna sign with Live most likely I guess with
Rom's team, right.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
Yeah, enjoying that spot. Yeah, isn't that funny though that Like,
but listen, I appreciate Rory at least sharing the honesty.
Today is breast conference from Dubai and like, yeah saying
it like, No, I talked to the kid. I told
him I think he's making the wrong decision, and that's
got to be pretty heavy.
Speaker 4 (26:00):
Think about that.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
That's got to be your idol if that's the club
playing on and this guy's telling you.
Speaker 4 (26:05):
But listen, at the end of the day, Like if.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
Something happens, Rory's not going to pay that kid's Morgan
Now he's yeah, yeah, yeah, Joe Demandia is not paying
my bills right at the round stale.
Speaker 7 (26:17):
Yeah, I know this might not be like super Fresh tea,
and I think I forgot to say it last week,
but kind of my days are blending together so it
could be relevant.
Speaker 8 (26:27):
But it took Bryson how many days to get a
whole one over his house? He has, you know, one
of the bands come and does it in what like this.
Speaker 7 (26:35):
Five shots, five shots, seven shots or something like that
was silly ye had.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
Seven hours had He's giving him seven hours to do
it in five shots like minutes.
Speaker 8 (26:47):
And then the.
Speaker 7 (26:47):
Cool part was like Bryson like being mind blown and
like you know, running all over the place and you know,
excited and celebrating for him. But he just goes to
show you like rice and is a content king and
everyone's subscribing to it.
Speaker 8 (26:59):
Everyone loves it. We're here for it.
Speaker 7 (27:03):
Not anything breaking, but LPGA Commissioner Molly Marcu decided to
step down, so Liz Moore is assuming the role of
interim commissioner, will working closely with Molly while they transition.
So really she was just you know, highlighting, like it's
her grind out there. Like I think she noted I.
Speaker 8 (27:21):
Was like four in the morning when I saw it
at the gym.
Speaker 7 (27:23):
I think she said she traveled one hundred and seventy
seven events last year or days or something like that.
So she's like, I was just burn. So she's stepping
down so interested to see kind of who steps in.
You know, I'm not available, sorry, ladies.
Speaker 5 (27:39):
But.
Speaker 4 (27:40):
You're not.
Speaker 8 (27:42):
You can yeah, yeah, not up yet, but kind of
want to see, you know. I think they're doing a
lot of is that.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
Hers you have to call? You got your commissioner, Molly
Nu's it breaking news?
Speaker 7 (27:55):
Yes, but yeah, you know, I think they've made a
lot of really strong changes for the LPGA in terms
of like perse and exposure, and they're working really hard.
Speaker 8 (28:04):
So I want to see somebody get in there. Somebody
be young with experience and you know, fresh with new ideas.
Speaker 7 (28:11):
Uh PJ Tour two K twenty five, which is wild
thing that out loud. They just released their trailer Tiger
Max Homa and Matt Fitzpatrick are.
Speaker 8 (28:19):
On the cover.
Speaker 4 (28:20):
Why Matt Fitzpatrick.
Speaker 8 (28:23):
Get the Europeans in there? I don't. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
Really, I think Maybett Fitzpatrick doesn't bring anybody to a
television said, I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
I mean maybe the sales in England, you know, yeah, but.
Speaker 4 (28:33):
What about Rosie. Rosie is a much more accomplished player
than But the Rosie fans aren't gamers.
Speaker 8 (28:40):
I was going to say, who's a gamer. I'm not
a gamer.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
I'm not a game.
Speaker 8 (28:43):
Maybe maybe fitz is a gamer, and maybe.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
That I actually was able to get women. I was
able to get girls growing up. Not a gamer.
Speaker 8 (28:50):
Yeah, yeah, I know, you know where your head's at.
Speaker 7 (28:55):
Okay, we're not going to fend any potential gaming listeners.
And next.
Speaker 8 (29:03):
Xander withdrew from the m X. No reason given.
Speaker 7 (29:05):
I don't know if you guys know nothing yet right
nothing g L embarrassment.
Speaker 4 (29:11):
No, I don't know.
Speaker 8 (29:13):
We shall see.
Speaker 7 (29:14):
Uh. We saw our guy Tom wearing Sunday Red if
we were watching the tv L last night.
Speaker 8 (29:19):
We saw it on Tigers Hodie. We've seen it everywhere.
Speaker 7 (29:21):
We talked about it on previous shows on what the
logo means, the breakdown of it, the major Championships. Well,
Puma filed a lawsuit against Sunday Red for their logo,
saying it will cause confusion among customers. What if anything Puma,
Schlasinger and the Grove.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
Logo, My sweet I can't believe that we didn't go
viral with the the Good Fellaw's reference, because it would
like they showed the picture and it was the one
cat this way and one cat this way, and I
used the one dog looking this way from the middle
saying what do you want from me?
Speaker 7 (29:58):
Yeah, that's great, that's got to go back out. But
I was saying, if anything bone fits should file the love.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
Yeah you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (30:03):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (30:06):
When I look at Sunday Red, I don't Pluma didn't
pop up.
Speaker 5 (30:09):
Wow.
Speaker 8 (30:10):
I remember when Grove released their logo. I was like, really, Jord,
I am like, I want to like.
Speaker 7 (30:14):
I like the Roman numerals of the twenty three. I
think that's cool. I like how they write out Grove.
I like the fun it's modern, it's clean.
Speaker 8 (30:20):
But then I see this panther and I'm like, it
looks like Schlasinger.
Speaker 4 (30:24):
I never saw the Grove logo, but.
Speaker 8 (30:26):
It's literally like the panther. It's it's okay, it looks
like let me let me pull it up for you.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
I would have thought Panther National would have a panther
in their logo.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
They do, I think, would they?
Speaker 8 (30:39):
Yeah, they do.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
It's uh Florida Panthers. Yeah, I guess it's the intro.
The intro is the best part of the night for
Tiger though unfortunate. Oh yeah, it was an incredible intro.
But oh wow.
Speaker 8 (30:51):
And when I first saw that, I'm like, that looks
like schlawgnger.
Speaker 7 (30:54):
Yeah right, I was like so I thought like, if anything,
that would be.
Speaker 8 (31:00):
You know, an issue, right, yeah.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
But it's a pretty cool logo though it is.
Speaker 7 (31:05):
And then this is the Panther National So it's the
pee with the can we see that?
Speaker 8 (31:09):
Yeah, the pans.
Speaker 4 (31:12):
Of the head of which.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
I would love to I would love to know annual
merch sales at the growth.
Speaker 8 (31:17):
I actually might have a doc. Yeah, I'll look at
it for Yeah. Well, I know every time I go
there it's silly.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
Is how do you not? And I'm sure it's expensive
and the people that play there are super wealthy too,
that are guests of Jordan that probably just buy everything.
Speaker 4 (31:33):
Right, you can.
Speaker 7 (31:34):
Get banned from there, which I think is probably one
of the only courses that you can do so because
people were reselling teas on eBay a golf.
Speaker 8 (31:41):
Team with the Grove logo because it's Jordan's logo. So
they would sell like a set of three tea's for
like forty nine bucks and Jesus, what are you doing?
Speaker 7 (31:48):
So they were finding out who these people were and
they're never allowed to come back to grow good. But
also with Jordan, and you know how he does releases
their approachop. They'll only release amount of like the Jordan
spikes for you to buy. So like you go in
there and it's like the day of the release, there's
like two of each size and if you don't get it,
too bad and if you resell it, you're not invited back.
(32:09):
So but yeah, that merch shop, like it's I don't
I don't even it's I'd be scared.
Speaker 4 (32:14):
I'd be scared. You might need to.
Speaker 3 (32:20):
Yeah financial advisor with me.
Speaker 7 (32:24):
Yeah, not not ideal in terms of, uh, you know,
trying to not spend any money. But I do need
to say happy victory Wednesday to moose your TGL team
Los Angeles Golf Club whooped my Jupiter Links golf team
last night.
Speaker 8 (32:39):
But more than that, we have so many things to
talk about with with the tg L, I think we
can kind of blend.
Speaker 7 (32:45):
The tea and mixed just talking TGL because we have
Kevin Kissner's blade that thankfully didn't end up in any casualties,
but had Tiger, Max, myself and probably you guys crying laughing.
Tiger's debut the walk Ins, which Moose we were just
kind of talking about.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
Like Tiger was trying to take so seriously because it
was so cool looking at me, but he started.
Speaker 8 (33:04):
The event like, do you know what I mean, Williams,
We got smoke, we got the Tiger playing. I'm like,
is whole Cogan coming out and body slamming somebody? What's
going on? I mean, but it's Tiger.
Speaker 7 (33:15):
It sounds like it's kind of cool and he had
fun with it. Charlie was laughing, like I like it.
But let's talk about this. I want to get into it.
I want to know, like did they take a few
steps back with the tech and everything? Like week two,
Reaction Boys.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
Come on a competitive event, Yeah, that's I mean right,
you know, after a forty minutes, I'm dialed out.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
It was a back to back blowouts.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
That's the one thing you can't account for right, you
could have the banter. I think it was a little
bit choppier this week for some reason then last week.
Speaker 8 (33:45):
But last week was terrible too, Like you can't.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
Tell whether it's going to be competitive.
Speaker 8 (33:50):
Or not, right, I gotta yeah, back to back blow
outs both weeks.
Speaker 7 (33:53):
It makes a singles match just kind of pointless and
just a non competitiveness. Like if Tiger wasn't playing just
because like I liked watching him, I liked him in
Max's banter, you know, I like them kind of just
you know, going back and forth and everybody talking as.
Speaker 8 (34:08):
Soon as you know.
Speaker 7 (34:09):
Honestly, I probably would have turned it off if ki
Is there didn't play it out of the bunker there.
Speaker 8 (34:13):
That was like, oh my god. That that was that
pulled me back in.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
I always liked having Kidsner there, even you know, because
he was not playing well right now.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
But you just know it's gonna be He's gonna do
something funny, right.
Speaker 8 (34:24):
Oh yeah, yeah. But the newness of the first week
is just like wearing off. Like I would.
Speaker 7 (34:28):
I wasn't as interested, you know, like I said, probably
would have been quick to tune out if it wasn't
for Kevin Gisnu shanking one everyone laughing. But the sin
the technology feel like I mean, and probably because I
was watching would be and him just being like, there's
no way Tiger hit it that far. I was like, what,
like too far? And he's like no, He's like he
hit it way for than that, like he said, like
the tech is way off. So and you could hear
(34:51):
I don't know if you guys picked up on this,
but you could see like Max and Tiger kind of
looking at each other and being like no chance.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
Or like, yeah, well that's how I am in the simulator.
I'm like, no, there's no way.
Speaker 8 (35:02):
I hit that three seventy five.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
I always feel like something's a little bit off, right,
You got to get used to it, you get out
of the more swings you take in there. It's just
a different feel, right, Yeah, obviously there's a little bit different.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
I still think it'd be so cool to see in person.
Just listen. Totally a fun two hour night, right.
Speaker 8 (35:17):
I need to go over I know I should. I
should have went last night. I think it's past my bedtime.
Speaker 4 (35:24):
Gala was the hero.
Speaker 8 (35:26):
Gollin's dad. Is he a paid actor over there? Like
five to five?
Speaker 2 (35:31):
Oh, he's awesome.
Speaker 1 (35:32):
And Gala was into it. Man, he was, he said,
he was so amped up. I mean yeah, he was
the only player that I've seen in the two weeks
that really looked like you wanted to really be there.
Speaker 7 (35:41):
Yeah, it was fun, but I can tell you Serena
and Alex Morgan a hard pass. It was awkward, like
tell me you know little to nothing about golf without
telling me you know nothing about golf, Like them trying.
Speaker 8 (35:52):
To talk to Alex Morgan and like pull out what
she was trying to say.
Speaker 4 (35:55):
I was like, just cut right. That's the thing.
Speaker 7 (35:58):
It's so weird, Like I don't Yeah, maybe she's an
investor or something, fine, but like she knows nothing about golf.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
And you don't need to spend fifteen minutes with Serena Wakes.
Give her up there for five minutes, he wave.
Speaker 8 (36:10):
It's like the NFL, right, Like if Serena.
Speaker 7 (36:13):
She's there, Yeah, show Taylor Swift at the Chiefs game, right,
chugging a beer and move on.
Speaker 8 (36:20):
I don't want to hear Taylor Swift being interviewed.
Speaker 7 (36:22):
I don't want to hear Serena, and I don't want
to hear Alex, especially if you don't know about the
sport that i'm watching, thank you.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
I don't even know who Alex Morgan was until you know,
they said she played soccer.
Speaker 8 (36:33):
Oh, she she was on team USA. Yeah, she's a
pretty prominent athlete. She was pregnant different okaygnant. I don't
know that either until they said it. Yeah, yeah, a couple, two,
three out good, one.
Speaker 4 (36:47):
Look great, glowing, absolutely glowing. I thought fantastic.
Speaker 8 (36:52):
The water throws it out there.
Speaker 7 (36:55):
But yeah, I think maybe format changes make it a
little more fun to watch, add some excitement something like that.
Speaker 8 (37:03):
I don't know. Next week's matches between New York Lolls,
it might be that, right.
Speaker 4 (37:06):
It might be.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
If you're hot and you're getting to shoot, you're getting
hit every three shots, you're gonna you're gonna crush the team, right,
Like if you're good at this simulator golf, right and
you're hitting every three times, the other team might be
in trouble, right, it might and maybe they have to
switch up the way they I don't know, we'll say.
I mean, it could just be a fluke to it's
only two times. It's hard to get a sample.
Speaker 7 (37:24):
But yeah, but weekly, maybe if it was like once
a month or something. But viewership statistics Tuesday night in January,
watches all right.
Speaker 8 (37:34):
Like, yeah, true, true, Well you tuning in next week.
Speaker 1 (37:38):
Well, I'm glad it was at seven o'clock this week
this past week instead of nine.
Speaker 8 (37:42):
That's why I was able to watch something.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
It led into Duke basketball instead of the opposite way.
Speaker 8 (37:47):
Yeah, but then they trapped me with that.
Speaker 7 (37:49):
Then I start watching hoops and I'm like, I gotta
wake up in three hours going on here?
Speaker 1 (37:55):
Yeah, well, I took a Live Golf survey today. Oh,
I got an email from Live.
Speaker 2 (38:01):
Because I'm I was on I used the Edge.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
No, I haven't, but I've been on the app, and
I guess they had my email. So they sent me
a survey with like fifteen sixteen questions on it, and
I answered it truthfully that I've watched. You know, I've
watched a couple of the events and I named which
ones you know, they give you the option. And then
they said what suggestions would you have for the broadcast?
(38:26):
And I said, Arlow White needs to dial it back
a few notches and quit trying to hard sell me
on how great this product is. Like they're always, you know,
showing tweets about.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
How awesome.
Speaker 4 (38:41):
Yeah, oh, it's it's terrible.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
And I said, the fact that you show more golf
shots than the pag than other tours is terrific. Just
be less annoying. Yeah, And that was basically my.
Speaker 7 (38:51):
Chick, the honest answers, you know what I mean, dial
back to theatrics a little bit, you know what I mean,
and let's focus in on golf and continue to highlight
the sport.
Speaker 1 (39:02):
And then they say about the music, and I said,
totally get.
Speaker 4 (39:06):
Tough on the broadcast.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
It's awful unless there's a way to block it out
with the broadcast, right, I.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
Mean there's Channel two mute.
Speaker 3 (39:13):
Yeah, right, yeah, So Daniel, do you want me to
wrap up the tea with h with what happened kind
of down there in the area when we set the stage,
we're we're getting a guess, all right, Well we'll go
to litny and we'll see.
Speaker 4 (39:27):
If not, we'll talk about that.
Speaker 1 (39:28):
Is this is why I was getting face timed last night.
I don't need face times at like eight o'clock at night.
You don't a stay time man. Nobody needs to see that.
Speaker 8 (39:40):
Maybe I wanted to be entertained.
Speaker 4 (39:42):
Various stages of undress. Come on we'll open.
Speaker 3 (39:50):
Let me talk about how about that Nick Taylor was
trailing by two Harry on the last hole with the
leaders behind him, no less.
Speaker 4 (39:57):
Yeah, he just had missed four.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
On sixty nine and seven on the sixty nine to
seventieth hole, and then he chips in for eagle on
the seventy second hole, goes to eighteen again against at Chiavaria,
at youa Verias at Saveria Ataveria in a playoff love Nico, Yeah,
and he gets it in the second time around for
his third win. Talk about this guy's not surrounded by
dramatic wins, right the Canadian Open with the whole champagne
(40:22):
bottle incident, you got the waste management playoff, just a
wild finish.
Speaker 8 (40:28):
His caddy being tackled.
Speaker 7 (40:30):
But I think what we're missing is, like the broadcast
even talked about it, but like and we saw, like
you know, when it came down to Nico and Nick,
it's like, Okay, it's like some guys thrive under pressure.
Speaker 8 (40:40):
Yes, Nico has a win.
Speaker 7 (40:42):
But for Nick Taylor, over the past three years, the RBC,
the Phoenix, and the Sony, all three of them came
from a playoff win like this.
Speaker 8 (40:49):
Guy just has the clutch gene.
Speaker 7 (40:50):
He has ice in the veins, and it's just, yeah,
that was cool to watch. Obviously was rooting, you know,
hard for Nico, but fun to watch Nick at that.
Speaker 1 (41:00):
Well, Niko's got two runner ups now in his last
three starts, and you talk about Nick Tail, that's his
fifth win, and yet he wasn't on the international team
playing in Canada last year. I'm still trying to forget
how the hell he make that team because he won,
like you said last year, he won in Phoenix.
Speaker 4 (41:17):
It's not like the guy isn't won in a while.
How do you not put him on the team.
Speaker 8 (41:20):
He's one.
Speaker 7 (41:21):
I wonder what the status for that too, winning in
you know, three consecutive years, like I mean one tournament.
Speaker 8 (41:27):
I'm sure it's not.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
But he wouldn't be a guy that you would think of, say, hey,
name the guys that have won three straight years on
the PGA Tour.
Speaker 7 (41:34):
I wouldn't probably wouldn't say Nick Taylor. Yeah, I only
know because I did some research.
Speaker 3 (41:39):
Right, Yeah, how about this is there called back to
being the top five machine again that he was stretches
Now our.
Speaker 8 (41:44):
Team, our guy Denny was up there too, which is
cool to see.
Speaker 3 (41:47):
Yeah, Keegan with the T six. He continues to play
some good golf.
Speaker 2 (41:51):
YEP.
Speaker 1 (41:52):
I really enjoyed Saturday. I was watching because nothing else
was on. It was freezing out. Patrick Fishburn I watched
basically his whole round.
Speaker 4 (42:01):
Man, that guy created some golf shots.
Speaker 1 (42:04):
He's hitting balls like four feet off the ground, these
low cuts and it was cool to watch when because
it was all dog legs right, so he had to
look at the dogglings said I'm going to shape it
this way, boom, and it was It was really fun
to well, that guy's good. He's really good. I never
even knew who he was. He played at by U
and he has an array of golf shots in his bag.
Speaker 7 (42:26):
Yeah yeah, see, and watching guys like that, I know,
butch things. So you know what, we want to see
Scotty and JT at the top of the leader board.
Speaker 3 (42:33):
We do, but yeah yeah, but it's also he still
wants to see Ricky up this guy.
Speaker 7 (42:38):
Yeah, Ricky might have switched careers, as I alluded to
in our group chat, but you guys know, I like,
you know, it's like looking at the farm lad. I
like paying attention to the core born guys. And everything else.
The thirty KFT grads from twenty twenty four at the Sony,
twenty nine of the thirty teed it up ten made
(42:58):
the cut, two inside the top thirty. And then if
we compare that to the DP World Tour grads, the
top ten finishers, only two of the ten DP World
Tour grads UH competed in the Sony and yes, Verus
Benson UH finished G ten And my gosh, I should
have practiced these before saying it. Rakua Hashino missed the cut.
(43:22):
So you know, it's kind of cool to see the
two farm legs and compare them side to side. But
you know what, we're only two events in for three Yeah,
two two hawaiis right.
Speaker 1 (43:32):
But I got to tell you that the Smileies Happy
Hour is a big hit with me.
Speaker 4 (43:36):
It was fantastic. On Friday afternoon, they had him. They
had him set up by.
Speaker 1 (43:40):
The seventeenth tee there and he had a surfboard as
his desk with his computer sitting there, and he had
three guys come over. Harry Higgs was part of it.
It's just really good good stuff, it.
Speaker 8 (43:52):
Is, yeah, and it's entertaining.
Speaker 7 (43:53):
Yeah, right, like you you want to hear the banter, like,
it's like what we talked about with TGL the things
that we like.
Speaker 8 (43:59):
We like here the guys, the banter, the talk.
Speaker 7 (44:01):
So the fact that they start pulling them over sitting
there and talking about other guys, like narrating the shots
and stuff, talking about the course, like give me more, Yes.
Speaker 3 (44:09):
I like, walk me through you did there on seventeen. Right,
it's more just like conversational.
Speaker 8 (44:13):
We got a for that.
Speaker 1 (44:15):
Yah.
Speaker 2 (44:16):
God, she's gone, Thank goodness.
Speaker 3 (44:18):
Yeah, but now we head to the West coast swing
the American Express.
Speaker 7 (44:23):
Wait, so is it still where with the wildfires going on,
is it still going to be a Laquinta Lakita.
Speaker 1 (44:28):
Yes, yeah, Lakita is in Palm Desert that's not affected.
Speaker 4 (44:33):
But the Riviera Ma Rivia.
Speaker 8 (44:35):
Okay, that's what I've heard them. They have to move Riviera.
Speaker 2 (44:37):
They might.
Speaker 4 (44:38):
They haven't said it yet, but I think they have to.
Speaker 8 (44:40):
Bertie's in my ear were telling me it has to
be moved.
Speaker 1 (44:44):
Yeah, you might go back to back in Scottsdale. Is
one of the options.
Speaker 4 (44:49):
Really interesting?
Speaker 8 (44:51):
Interesting, same course or different? There are just two courses in.
Speaker 2 (44:55):
The same same course.
Speaker 4 (44:57):
Wow, yeah, already set up.
Speaker 7 (45:00):
Imagine winning same course. Two things back to back.
Speaker 2 (45:04):
Yeah, the Gens Invitational on winning it.
Speaker 4 (45:08):
So the course of course presented by the Pen Club.
Speaker 3 (45:10):
How are you going with TPC Stadium since that's where
the final will be.
Speaker 1 (45:13):
Yes, I'm gonna go with the PGA West Stadium Course.
And I've also played this golf course.
Speaker 4 (45:20):
It's a peak die.
Speaker 1 (45:21):
Designed back in nineteen eighty six. It's been renovated recently,
and they play the stadium course twice. They'll play it
once either Thursday, Friday or Saturday, and then the final day.
Speaker 2 (45:32):
Is always on the stadium course.
Speaker 1 (45:34):
The other two courses are Lakinta Country Club, which I've
played that's an old school golf course, really cool.
Speaker 4 (45:40):
And then part of PGA West.
Speaker 1 (45:41):
The Nicholas Private Course will be the third golf course.
But stadium course not extremely long. I mean it was
like seventy two hundred yards. The average green size only
five thousand square feet, so a lot less than what
they've seen the last couple of weeks. Ninety plus sand bunkers,
water and play on seven holes is overseed everywhere. There's
poa overseed on the greens and rye and the fairways
(46:04):
and the rough and it's the first tournament that they're
playing with POA greens, so gods, certain guys are better
at putting on this type of surface than others. And
some of the smallest greens on tour. Lakita Country Club
is only forty seven hundred square feet, so they're really small. Nicholas,
they get up to about seven thousand square feet.
Speaker 4 (46:25):
The finish is great.
Speaker 1 (46:26):
The signature hole is obviously the seventeenth hole, which is
the par three island green with jagged rocks surrounding the greens,
only one hundred and sixty eight yards pot bunker on
the left hand side, and they call that whole Alcatraz.
Speaker 4 (46:39):
But the hole before that.
Speaker 1 (46:40):
The sixteenth hole, is a six hundred yard par five
with this gigantic bunker all down the left side, and
then left of the green is this bunker that's.
Speaker 4 (46:50):
Like twenty feet. It's like a twenty.
Speaker 2 (46:52):
Foot lip on that thing.
Speaker 1 (46:53):
I was actually in it when I played there, and
I got out of it in one shot, believe.
Speaker 5 (46:58):
It or not.
Speaker 3 (46:58):
Brand didn't throw your ball out or no, he did not.
Speaker 4 (47:01):
He was not there to throw my ball out.
Speaker 1 (47:04):
That's called San Andrea's fault. That hole, and then the
eighteenth hole is a par four, four hundred and forty
yards t shot over the water. There's water all up
the left side, bunkers on the right, all the way
up to the green.
Speaker 2 (47:15):
And they call that one coliseum.
Speaker 4 (47:17):
You gotta go low.
Speaker 1 (47:19):
Dunlap one at last year at twenty nine under par.
Ram has one here at twenty seven under par. Adam
Long twenty six. Billy hask got the thirty under par
and Pat Perez remember him back in two thousand and
nine thirty three under par. Now, I don't know what
golf they might have played different, a different golf course,
(47:39):
because they've moved it.
Speaker 3 (47:40):
The Bob Hope was it might have been the Bob
Hope back then. Yeah, it's a wide range of winners though.
That's the point, right, you have Dunlap, Rom Hudson, Swapfer
sebou came right.
Speaker 4 (47:49):
There's no like shaking that.
Speaker 3 (47:51):
There's no like this, just one kind of player that
can move here. I'm actually going JT in the one
and done, harr'n. I'm gonna put it aboard early in
the season seeing if see him.
Speaker 7 (48:01):
I'm looking at it right now. I'm already in, but
I'm looking at stand.
Speaker 4 (48:04):
He's got he's got a T three year last year.
Speaker 8 (48:06):
What are you guys names in this?
Speaker 4 (48:08):
I'm not in I'm not you're.
Speaker 8 (48:10):
Let me guess Moose twelve seventeen.
Speaker 4 (48:12):
That would be me.
Speaker 2 (48:13):
That would be Moose.
Speaker 4 (48:14):
That would be me.
Speaker 7 (48:15):
Mine's just as secret of as Moose. It's d Matthews
twenty three.
Speaker 4 (48:21):
Well, how are you seeing the line here, Harry? There's
a couple of things.
Speaker 3 (48:24):
I actually like JJ Spawn at that fifty five hundred number,
playing really well. Adam Hadwin had a T six year
last year. I like him, And I'm sticking with Eric
Hole in the top five. I mean, the guy is just, uh,
that's what he does for a thousand at one thousand bucks.
I mean it's a pretty solid number for him.
Speaker 1 (48:40):
Yeah, Adam Hadwin has five top tens in his career
at this at this tournament, and I don't know where
else i'd use Adam had one, So I might use
him in my one and done. Plus two forty in
a top twenty looks good too. Davis Thompson in a
top twenty at plus one fifty and Harry Hall has
been playing some great golf silly.
Speaker 2 (48:59):
He's off to a.
Speaker 1 (49:00):
Terrific start and really played well in the fall last
year plus four thousand to win. It sounds like something
I might ambide then. And then at top twenty at
plus one seventy five.
Speaker 8 (49:11):
Where Harry finished last week, let me see.
Speaker 7 (49:15):
I know he was trending up there because I saw,
like looking at the leader work, I was like, wow,
we got Eric, we got Harry, we got Denny, Like, yeah.
Speaker 4 (49:23):
Finish after he finished tenth last week.
Speaker 7 (49:26):
Yeah, and after his I kind of want to go
through his stats because after his win, I feel like
I don't knocking.
Speaker 8 (49:32):
I don't think he's missed a cut. I mean he's
been trending.
Speaker 1 (49:35):
His last miss cut was the Windham Championship back in August.
Speaker 2 (49:41):
So yeah, that's the last time he's playing. Yeah, he's
been playing.
Speaker 3 (49:44):
Great, all right, So it doesn't play Brandon's going to
be joining well.
Speaker 7 (49:48):
He texted me and said, uh yeah, he said ten
to fifteen minutes away it swelve O.
Speaker 8 (49:55):
Wait, so I'll just share it. I'm sitting well, let me,
let me let me go.
Speaker 4 (49:59):
Yeah, you share, you share. I was going to set
the stage, but you just you share. You have the
most knowledge of it.
Speaker 7 (50:04):
So yeah, I'm literally sitting you know, in my dining room.
Speaker 8 (50:08):
I'm just sitting there, like getting some work done.
Speaker 7 (50:09):
The baby's in the bounce where the dog's going nuts
because he just walked in, and I'm like, hey, babe,
how are you.
Speaker 8 (50:14):
He comes there, gives me kiss, and he walks back.
He's standing by the eyeland. He looks at me.
Speaker 7 (50:19):
Something just crazy, kind of weird happened today. And I'm like,
oh my god, you get a car accident or something.
I'm like, my heart's my stummach.
Speaker 1 (50:26):
I'm like, what's wrong?
Speaker 8 (50:27):
Are you okay? Like is everything good? And I'm like
tell me.
Speaker 7 (50:32):
So.
Speaker 8 (50:32):
I'm like sitting there like waiting, waiting, waiting, and I
look at him. He comes over and he smiles and
he goes, I got a hole one today. I go,
it's awesome. He's playing seminoal. I'm like, hold on. I
was like, that's awesome.
Speaker 4 (50:43):
What seminole?
Speaker 8 (50:45):
Hold on hair? I go. I go, that's awesome. I go,
what hole? He goes eighteen? I go eighteen.
Speaker 7 (50:52):
He goes driver three ninety down wind hole in one
on a part four. I go, you gotta you gotta
be kidding me.
Speaker 4 (51:03):
Is there any video there?
Speaker 8 (51:05):
There isn't a video. They have him pulling it out
of the hole in the camp.
Speaker 4 (51:08):
He could even see it go in. It was so
far away, but you see.
Speaker 8 (51:11):
Him going, yeah, three ninety So okay, I guess.
Speaker 4 (51:14):
What he was playing with?
Speaker 3 (51:16):
No idea, Tom Roush's back down his back doctor, no kid, Wow, but.
Speaker 8 (51:25):
He you know that happened.
Speaker 7 (51:26):
And then all of a sudden, I mean I start
getting text messages like there's no way that didn't happen. Facts,
facetimes us, everyone's calling us. I mean combined, we probably
got like three hundred text messages last night. They're like,
how does that even happen? So down Win eighteen at
(51:47):
Seminole Driver Home one golf, Now.
Speaker 4 (51:51):
Is he getting that ball framed? Is that going to
be part of the milling?
Speaker 8 (51:55):
Brandon, he probably didn't even bring the ball home.
Speaker 3 (51:58):
You know, he was right, but like Seminal too right,
I said, we talked, Yeah, I said that membership there
must be going.
Speaker 8 (52:04):
Crazy, and they were.
Speaker 7 (52:05):
I'm telling you the text, and I'm pretty sure one
of the guys he was playing with like took a
picture of him like pulling the ball out. But there's
no phone policy too, so he was just kind of like,
I don't even know if I want you used to
text me the photo like his bees very by the
rules very you know him so, but I'm I want
to do the like.
Speaker 8 (52:25):
But that's awesome, that's the same. That's I was like. Yeah,
I was like, let me FaceTime you guys.
Speaker 7 (52:28):
So we FaceTime Moose last night and I was like,
be tell Moose what you did today?
Speaker 4 (52:34):
How many does he have in his career?
Speaker 1 (52:36):
Holding once you know what?
Speaker 8 (52:37):
I knew you guys were going to ask this if
like in tournament play or just in just yeah, probably
like or something like that.
Speaker 2 (52:46):
Really wow.
Speaker 1 (52:47):
Yeah, I don't know for sure any others on a par.
Speaker 7 (52:50):
Four honestly, No, not that I'm aware of the let's
put an asterisk by that until I confirm, but I'm
pretty sure all part three's so yeah, power four or.
Speaker 4 (53:01):
Not?
Speaker 7 (53:02):
Like a short yeah, and what we had Tom Tom
saying yeah we three down win, Wow, I'm married three.
Speaker 4 (53:13):
Oh yeah for Lucky all right? Good stuff.
Speaker 8 (53:18):
His way back, Yes, yep.
Speaker 7 (53:20):
So he'll be uh taking it up in Panama for
the third event of the corn Ferry season, so he'll
be doing.
Speaker 8 (53:27):
His rehab starts there. But next week we will.
Speaker 7 (53:31):
See Harry and I will be at the PGA show
in Orlando. I know our friends from a g S
will be there. I put up a story and said
who's going, so they'll be there, our friends at Group
at Brush, a ton of my clients, Harry will be there.
So if you guys are there and you see me
or Harry, come say IY to Harry.
Speaker 8 (53:50):
I look too busy. Don't bother me. I'm just kidding.
Come say I come talk to us. We'll be out
there all week.
Speaker 7 (53:57):
I'm not sure if we'll do a remote show or
what we'll do, or if we just maybe we'll do
it later.
Speaker 8 (54:01):
Up to you.
Speaker 2 (54:01):
I'm going to bring my stuff just in case.
Speaker 1 (54:03):
Are you bringing my microphone and my headphones and everything?
Speaker 3 (54:07):
Maybe you're doing content there too for friends.
Speaker 7 (54:10):
I go, yeah, I mean I'm driving up, so maybe
I bring mine and we do one Tuesday night from
my hotel room.
Speaker 1 (54:18):
What yeah, where are you staying? I'm at the Hilton
Garden Inn.
Speaker 7 (54:21):
Oh, Brad goat mer Roots Sea World High right, Okay.
Speaker 8 (54:28):
Yeah, because I have the como's forum. Tuesday night looks cold.
Speaker 4 (54:34):
I told you, yeah, it looks.
Speaker 8 (54:35):
Like we're going to make fun of me. But I'm
telling you about the past few years. Demo day. When
I'm out there, I am like Scarf Beanie.
Speaker 4 (54:46):
I'll be bringing gear.
Speaker 2 (54:48):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (54:50):
One last thing if you're going to be watching the
PGA Tour champions they get underway this weekend.
Speaker 4 (54:55):
In Hawaii at Hualalai.
Speaker 1 (54:57):
Paul Asinger is now in the booth. He going to
be replacing Lanny Watkins permanently, and they're going to do
sort of a changing of the guard on the broadcast
at some point this weekend.
Speaker 4 (55:08):
So Zinger is back.
Speaker 3 (55:10):
Interesting, Yeah, interesting, All right, we'll check it out. Thanks
for listening, Thank to you, Thanks to Tom Stickney for
joining us, and we'll be back next week with some
content and some information from the PGA Show.
Speaker 1 (55:22):
See you, then give it to listen, swing it and
ding it.
