(01:47):

your retirement from Channel five.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Well deserved.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Sally So, an official in Illinois, just helped the family
of a World War II veteran. His name is James
Bennett get back his purple heart. Okay, So, James passed
away in nineteen ninety. He was seventy six years old.
And you know, during the war, during World War Two,
he was wounded not once but twice, and he got
a purple heart. So after the war, Bennett and his

(02:32):
wife settled in Chicago. Great man. He volunteered with the
local fire department and police departments. He also prepared toys
for kids with disabilities. This was a really amazing man.
But he decided to put his purple heart in a
safe deposit box. Then years later, after his death, the
box became unclaimed. So when that happens, anything in it,
I guess becomes property in the bank. Yeah, So the

(02:56):
bank then put it on display. They have a display
case with things that were unclaimed, and the Illinois State
Treasurer noticed the heart and thought it should go back
to his family, and here he is along with Bennett's niece.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
It turns out a lot of people store their military
medals in a bank safe deposit box to keep them
from being stolen or burnt up in a house fire.
And I hope that this also encourages other people to
look into getting their purple hearts from their family members.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
And it did. The discovery inspired the treasurer to launch
what's now known as the Operation Purple Heart. It's a
state program that tracks down loss medals and returns them
to veterans families. Nice. So far, they've had seventeen successful
you know, returns.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Nice, very nice. What a great story. That's crazy about them?
The profit.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
You yes, but if you have one, make sure your
family knows about it. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Don't you wonder how many safe deposit boxes are sitting
there with what's in them valuable stuff, money, God only knows.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
I know my mother had three of them.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
Oh my god. Yeah, crazy. All right, there you go today,
he's good news.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
