Speaker 1 (00:00):
So we have a Starbucks news today, lots of Starbucks news.
I guess today is red Cup Day. I guess so
what that means. I'm it, but that could be a
problem at some locations because apparently unionized baristas are planning
to strike today.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Right.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Oh, yes, yeah, some of the baristas are playing in
a striking because they haven't gotten a good contract yet.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
So okay, well here's what I want to talk about,
this damn Barista cup. So Starbucks they've actually issued an
apology for the rollout of their Barista cup. I guess
their holiday menu and merchandise rolled out last week and
there was this cup.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
It's like a bear.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
It's a glass bear with a straw. It's got a
little beanie on okay, and a straw, and it's you
told me, Curtis. These are selling for They sell.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
For thirty bucks, I guess is the normal retail.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Part thirty dollars?

Speaker 4 (00:51):
Are you kidding me?

Speaker 1 (00:52):
And people went absolutely nuts over these cups. Some people
slept outside to be first in line to get one.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
Now you think these are people who are desperate to
get them so they can resell them.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Yes, a lot of that is probably a big fact.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
I will tell you right now. Some are quickly being
resold on eBay for as much as five hundred dollars.
I just looked at Oh, there's one that pops right
up Starbucks barrista bear fifty thousand dollars on eBay. Of
course that's probably no one's gonna.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
Pay, of course, but that's well, I would hope not.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
I don't get it.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
I mean totally lost. This is completely lost on me.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Says here.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
The high demand triggered tense moments at some stores, including
reports of altercations.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
That's a nice way to say we beating Booby.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
And Starbucks has since apologized for the controversy.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
Why why are they issuing an apology for people's bad behavior.
I don't understand. I would just be like, guys, you know,
get a life.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
And you can't say that in a PR statement. I can't.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
I would, and I could. I'd be like, you guys
are idiots.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Yeah, Sally would.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
I would love to.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
See you're a fuller way overcharging for this glass or whatever,
overcharging way overcharging you when you're fighting over.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
You're fighting over I.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
Yes, I would be a great PR person.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Sally would be.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Sally would be like, get over yourselves.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
All right, Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
We'll make more and you can pay more.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
Don't you have a job to get to.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
There are people that are other stories that are selling
knockoff versions though you can get like a ten dollars
version at Walmart that's almost the same thing without the
Starbucks branding on it, of course.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
And then Aldie has like a little gingerbread glass gingerbread
thing that you can buy for five bucks and they're
putting it on their social media and on the post
that they put they said, miss out on that thirty
dollars bear, Well, we got this little debo.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
It's not the same, it's the same.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
So they're trying to you know, target that audience like, hey,
if you want something.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Yeah, and you said you can get a ten dollars
one at Walmart. At Walmart kind of like doesn't have
the branding on it.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
Yes, it's kind of like back when you were at
high school, elementary school and you know were gonna bring
if you didn't get the right kind of sneakers or jeans.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Mom, can I get those Nikes sneakers? No, you're gonna
get Sears winners. Yeah, that's what you're getting. Because they're
they're about a fourth of the price, and you'll wear
them and you'll.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Love them, and you felt like a winner. I bet
uh No.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
The nikes were leather. These things were swayed. A new
salary's going to bring that up. If you have one
of these barrista cups, can you can you please explain
what the big deal is?

Speaker 4 (03:26):
Uh? You know, but it's just lost on me.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Me too, I don't get it.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
One triple eight four one five one oh five five

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
