(00:00):
And you're waking up with fifth inthe morning and warn them every Thursday at
eight twenty ish, although I'm runninga hare behind this morning because of the
Taylor Swift news and such. Julieon the Job joins us to answer your
career questions. If you're gearing upto graduate here in a couple of weeks
and you're like, well, Ihave no idea what I'm doing and I'm
panicking, or my parents are houndingme, Julie's our career ments, or

(00:24):
she answers your questions. Hi,Julie, help take a deep breath,
okay, and realize that you arein a transition phase, and part of
being in a transition phase is movingslowly, getting clear on what you want,
considering your options, versus being onthe timeline that says, well,

(00:47):
I graduated in May, I wantto take two weeks off and then I'm
ready to start my start my career. And if you're getting that pressure from
your parents, yes, that isthe way it used to be, but
it's not the way it is now. Well, and your friends who have
jobs don't look at them as somesort of role model, necessarily because I
promise you that in six months there'sgoing to be several of those people who've

(01:11):
said, uh, I took thewrong job or wish I would have taken
some time off to really consider myoptions. Everything in my body right now,
so we've taken the deep breath, but everything in my body wants to
ask you, Okay, what shouldI do? But we've already talked about
this at Lenks, so I won'twaste your time. If you want to
catch up on the podcast Tiff inthe Morning sept the four pillars of career

(01:33):
happiness of where you should star, and I highly recommend catching up. So
then I ask you this, though, how much time is too much time
from college to starting your career. There are people who say I'm going to
take the summer off, That's okay. There are people who say I'm going
to take a trip. I'm goingto take a gap year lucky people,

(01:56):
and that these days is okay.It does make you look unseerious or uncommitted,
which is what boomers will tell you. And I know this because I'm
a homer. So it is nowacceptable to say, once I graduated,
I wanted to step back and takea deep breath and really consider what I
wanted my first job to be.I went out and met with people and

(02:21):
started learning more about the job marketand how I might fit. That is
a beautiful action to take versus sittingat home playing video games waiting for the
career fairy to knock on your door. Because that's not happening. We love
the career fairy, she doesn't reallycome by that often. You're career fair
that one I am, Yes,exactly all right. So so the new

(02:45):
norm of finding a job after graduation, I wouldn't even know where to begin.
Is there? Just one tip?Be willing to reach out and connect
with people who have more experience inlife and in work then you do.
That's where the wisdom comes from. The wisdom is what you're looking for,

(03:07):
and it doesn't come on job boardsor just sitting at home pointing and clicking
and applying to jobs. Okay, you need to get out and meet with
people who have more experience than youdo and get their insight into the job
market into how skilled your skills mightbe a match. You have to become

(03:27):
curious and start looking for something that'sa good toe hold, a a good
first step into the market. Becauseyour first step is not your last but
you have to get started. Okay. Speaking of reaching out, Julie on
the job on all social media platforms. She puts up videos that are easy
to digest and share. She alsotakes your questions, as do both of

(03:49):
us. So every Thursday, teight twenty, Julie and don't forget you
can reach out anytime. I appreciateyou girl. Yeah. Coming up next,
the family fourback and say gets toKosai. If you're looking to get
out and enjoy this weather, maybethis week and take a trip up there
