Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thanks for some more. It's time to make a date
or break on TIF in the morning. Good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
It's your relationships and therapy come together on my show
every Tuesday with Lori sharp Page as our licensed clinical counselor.
She's a relationship expert. And I really stand by this
that nothing has been too weird or too out of
pocket for you this morning.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
No, we love it weird, we love it out of pocket.
Let's do it.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
We love the weirder the better. And you guys know
my rule.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
If something comes across my feed or in our group
text three or more times, we talk about it. And
since we're two weeks out from the election, I'm curious
how relationships in politics come together in this weird world
of dating apps in twenty twenty four. We're gonna play
a talk back that I got and then I'm gonna

(00:46):
let you kind of break it down. Laurie, Okay, hopefully
this relates to someone in any way.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
Here we go, so talk about dating someone with different
political views. Never, I'm sorry, that's too important. However, what
happens when you're married for seventeen years and now all
of a sudden your partner has different political use as
you makes for a very interesting conversation, or lack thereof.

(01:11):
Sometimes we just don't want to discuss those things. The
family dinner table conversations are wild.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
First of all, you can hear in the background of
her talk back that she's using her blinker, which you
know doesn't always happen in Cincinnati.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
So one, I love that for her.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
And two, has this come across the couch you know,
politics and dating?

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Oh yes it has. This is a big one. So
here's what I'm going to say as a high level
in the first is your political beliefs are different than
your values. You can hold different opinions and still have
the same values. I think what's hard right now is
things are so divided that sometimes getting to that deeper
value that we share together is harder. I totally agree

(01:56):
that when you're outdating, you should be talking about your opinions,
in your beliefs and your values and finding someone who
maybe doesn't completely mash those but supports those in you.
It is super challenging when you've been in a long
term relationship and you've had the same viewpoints. And people change,
People grow, they adapt, they change. There's some interesting research

(02:19):
about how our belief system changes as we age, so
this does happen. The problem is is that if we
can't talk about it, if we can't genuinely talk about
our difference of opinion, it becomes a no go space
in our relationship, which can cause a lot of damage.
So what we really need to do again is to

(02:39):
reflect back to what is the shared value? Can we
find those shared values instead of talking about the political opinions,
which are really, you know, just dividing us further and
not getting to the core of what we share.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
I am so curious about how the dating app structures
around political beliefs and such, because you guys know, I'm
not on them. You're going to have to carry the
weight of this. If you're listening right now, i'd love
your opinion on it. I do believe, though, that political
beliefs are a part of someone's They can be a
part of someone's core values. And if that's the case,

(03:15):
then yes, it feels like it's worth it to bring
up whether you're dating somebody or you're with someone you know.
I often reflect back on the LGBTQ plus community, where
sometimes their values feel as if they're being attacked. So
why would you date someone that doesn't support whether or
not you have a right to like live. And I
feel like that can be very, very visceral, and it

(03:35):
makes sense because that's a part of their core values.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Yeah. Absolutely, and I will I'll take you back in
time to two thousand and eight when I was on
the dating apps, and I remember very clearly that political
orientation and beliefs were already on there. They were part
of your profile, and I think they still are and
I would advise people to take that information seriously and
into account and when looking for a partnership, because it
is about the shared values and those are super important

(04:02):
to have for a long term commented relationship.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
So interesting.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
I feel like we could talk about this for a
long time. However, thank you for your expertise. Let's do
this Cincinnati IF five one three seven four nine one
seven one or talk back with Tiff on iHeartRadio.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Just because I'm curious.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
I'm not on the app landscape, so I don't know
what it's like as far as political beliefs go.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
So I need you to hold my hand a little
bit on that one. Thank you, Lori. You're waking up
with Siff in the morning on kiss one O.

how politics are playing out on dating apps. So I'm
getting some feedback from you this morning.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
I was in the dating apps about three years ago,
a little bit more maybe, and this feature was just starting.
So for me, it was a little bit of a
flag when people immediately had it on their profile before
I even went on the date again, because it's just
kind of a taboo topic for me, I really avoid.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
It, Okay, just curious, Yeah, I was curious on if
you have seen that feature on the app or non
I was in the midst of talking about that with
Lori sharp Page, who's our licensed clinical counselor for Make
a Date or Break, you know, relationships and therapy come
together on my show on Tuesdays, and you know, to
her credit, nothing has been too weird or out of
pocket so far, And that was just one of the

(05:20):
questions that we had this morning.
