Speaker 1 (00:00):
Because you're waking up with fifth in the morning time,
Kiss morning, mental health Mondays with Lori Sharpages, our licensed
clinical counselor just a quick tidbit of information to try
to kick off the week in a better place. Good morning, learning,
Good morning. So forty nine percent of gen z is
going to social media, specifically TikTok and of course Instagram
as well for their mental health advice.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Yes, so the research is showing that they're actually kind
of skipping professionals altogether and going straight to social media, which.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
I understand accessibility costs totally.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
I think also that humanness, that that understanding that like
it's not just me. That's that's one thing that social
media I think really gives people in the mental health
space that we need to give it props for. It
makes people feel less alone. But the challenge is is
they just did some research that shows that about fifty
percent of the trending mental health tips I think is
the hashtag they looked on contains misinformation and usually in

(00:53):
the form of oversimplification, which I get, like when we
come on here for mental Health Monday, we're trying to
get people that tidbit, that little bit that's going to
help them. Sure, and I think a lot of people
are really playing in that space, and that's a good
space for us to be playing it. But what can
happen is that we oversimplify these very nuanced things.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Okay, so can give me an example of a tip,
maybe that would be over absolutely so.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
A good example of this always happening is people are
always saying on social media that people's poor innpersonal behaviors
or poor emotional hygiene is narcissism. It's not narcissism, No,
it's people being unable to care for themselves, or unable
to communicate, or maybe having some level of narcissistic personality traits,
which spoiler alert, we all have them to different degrees.

(01:40):
But they will leave thinking that everyone around them is
a narcissist. And that's not actually really that helpful.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
You're only getting like the tid like the top tip
of the iceberg, when there's really a lot more to
learn about you.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Absolutely absolutely, And so while these little tidbits are good
and impactful and meaningful, be mindful of the source and
be mindful that they're one piece of a very large
canvas that is your mental health.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
All right, Laurie, thank you so much. My goal mental
health Monday is just to make things a little bit
easier on you, just a little tidbit, you know, coming
up around nine point forty, the Daily Debrief around nine thirty.
Have you ever been to a wedding and something horrible
has gone wrong? I felt so bad for the mother

(02:23):
of the groom at this wedding. I will explain what
happened next
