Speaker 1 (00:07):
Thanks for joining us.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
You're listening to the muster on hack and now he's
Lucky Dad and out of Thornbury Young Farmers joins us
in this week's Young Farmer's Chat Lucky, good afternoon.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
How's everything over in West and South and today?

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Oh it's a pretty good things Andy, Yeah, just plenty happening.
But we're getting to it.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Your feed covers, are they starting to look a bit
better for the end of November or the mid November?

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Getting up there now we've got Oh, I've got a
heap of Baylor's shut up. Hope to get into that
next week. But yeah, just getting crops met him. But yeah,
young grass crops, I mean Baylor joff next week hopefully
was sitting quite tired at the moment.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Yeah, So everybody's all things considered. With the way the
weather's been over the past four weeks, they're starting to
look at things a bit more certainty.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Would you say, Oh, I'd say so. I think everyone's
starting to get through the work now it's been a
couple of big weeks to get it in. Yeah, starting
to look quite good now.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
The Thornbury Young Farmers, you had your ninetieth celebrations at
the weekend.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
It looked like a real hood.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Yeah that it was a good time. I started off
down at the Vintage Machinery Club and had a look
around that and then had the Thornby Volunteer for Abrigaders
down there, had a bit of a competition and a
race with the four hoses. It was a good bit
of fun. And then I moved down to the hall
where we had the formal celebration and few speakers at

(01:33):
Hugh Jackson down He's got to listen to him to
speak and catch up with him about his journey and
what he's been up to. And then they had a
band bit of a dance or to finish the night.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Yeah, of course, Hugh Jackson. He is the reigning Young
Farmer of the Year champion. You'll know this as much
as anybody. You're back in the regionals again this year.
We'll talk about that shortly, but as far as the
celebrations are, the Thornberry Vintage Club, it's pretty synonymous over
in your neck of the world.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Yeah, it's a yeah, good club. It's actually the first
time saying for a look so but yeah, some nice
old bits of cut but I don't think too many
of them would make it out on the farm today.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
So as far as your club, everything's been focused on
the weekend.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
That's pain i'd imagine lately.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Yeah, it's been a big focus for us. Yeah, it's oh,
it's a big part of the year for us and
a bit of a fundraiser for the club. But now
that's how We've got a few other things to look
forward to. But yeah, it could to get out of
the way.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Good to celebrate it, really, Absolutely, you've got to celebrate
these milestones. So you're talking about fundraising and the likes,
what do you guys do you have to raise a
bit of coin?

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Oh, we just finished up our tailing fundraisers. That's that'll
be our main main fundraisers for the year, and then
every now and then we pick up the odd job
of people that are available.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
But now usually just the tailing obviously keeps you a
flat financially for the next twelve months.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Right, Yeah, I'll try to make it work between that
and oh the other few you pick up get in
what you put out, So what you get out what you.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
Put in, I should say, so absolutely.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Turn up to the tailing. You usually get some discounts
along the way and.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
You get when you get enough of your turn up
there yarns and shans are just flowing and just makes
for an enjoyable afternoon.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
It's just part and parcel, right.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Oh, you got to have some fun while you do it,
of course you do.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
There's got to be someone who's made a scapegoat. We'll
talk about the Young Farmer of the Year competition. The
districts have been and gone once again. You've made the
top eight two years and are co ngreds on that.
By the way, luckie. Now the competition to Kurn and
Clinton a couple of weekends ago. How did you find
it safe compared to last year?

Speaker 3 (03:44):
It was a bit different to last year, but most
most of the modules are relatively what you'd expect. A
few different ones that you take your boy surprise and
show what you don't know. But that's part of the
learning experience of it all. But now it was a
really good day put on by Clinton, and yeah, look

(04:04):
forward to the next one.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
So what were the modules they put in there that
you weren't expecting to go? A bit of a local
throw up as such.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
Oh, the old first aid one wouldn't rely on me
to save you.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
But surely.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
We got there in the end, it's a faing. Now
most of the other ones, we're really well set up
and got through them without too much trouble.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
As far as Stornberry Club, many of you guys put
your names forward to compete on the day.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
I think there were five or six of us that
went over, and then there's three of us that have
made it through to the regional so you're quite happy
with that.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
It's just und to fifty percent of everybody he's got through,
so you're to be commended for that.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
Yeah, you asun get a couple that ended up making
it through the regionals, but yeah, yeah, three and this
year is quite doing quite well.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
I think absolutely. So what's on the table for the
rest of the year for you guys.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
Oh, it's pretty cruzy. For the rest of this month.
We've got Christmas at the races coming up middle of
December alongside Nightcaps, and then we've got a float going
and the Revedend Christmas Parade, I'm pretty sure, so that's
on Christmas Eve. Still try and get a few members
along to that, and then not much until January, where

(05:22):
I think we've got a couple of trips penciled in.
But yeah, not a heat going on, so just.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
That time of year you can have workloads there. But
still everybody's taking the chance to go to the meetings
and catch up as such, which is always a.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Good thing, right, Yeah, trying to get long to the
meetings down at Drummond. I've got Drummond Touch on Monday,
so it's good to get long to that Touch. Yeah,
Drummond Touch. When you're not working, get along and have
a run around there. Touch of fun.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Touch is still pretty popular over that way then.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Oh, I think there's probably twelve or fifteen teams in
the comp that's good going. It's always good to turn
up and have a run around.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Of course it is now Young Farmers Club at Thornbury Lucky.
What are the details people need to know around meeting
dates etc.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
Our meeting is the first Monday of every month and
recently we've been meeting at the Drummond Pub first Monday.
But get in contact us through the Facebook or the
Instagram pages and get most of the details are on there.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Have you got a TikTok account? Dare I ask?

Speaker 3 (06:32):
I don't do the social media. I couldn't tell you.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
That's a good way to be mate. Don't change on
that front. Hey, lucky dad and out of Thornburry, Young farmers,
thanks for your chat on the muster of us afternoon,
and like we say, congrats on making the regional finals
for the Young Farm of the Air competition.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
We'll see you in Gore in February.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Thanks very much, Laugh out.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Loud with ag proud because life on the land can
be a laughing matter to us. By sheer Well Data
Working to help the livestock Farmer. A man just bought
a new Ferrari and he decides to take it out
for a spin. But as he's driving, he speeds down

behind him with his lights flashing and siren going. The

(07:15):
man flows, the guest pedal and takes off a few
moments and the speedy chase. The man thinks what am
I doing? This isn't worth going to jail. He pulls
over and the cop approaches the car. Listen, we both
know that you are speeding. My shift's over in five minutes.
Pound off a write your ticket. That's paperwork. It don't
want to do. If you can give me one good
reason as to why you're speeding.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
I'll let you go.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
The man thinks for a moment and says, well, officer,
just recently, my wife decided to run off of the
police officer, and when you were chasing me.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
I thought you were bringing her back. Well, leave it
there for the afternoon, I meany me.

Speaker 2 (07:49):

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
