Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Cody Allen's podcast. This is Cody Cast, and
I've got Tody Allen on the line, so I'm gonna
hang up with him and patch him through to you.
Donna Hues from Universal patching me in right now to
Kip More New Project's Wild World the deluxe edition just
(00:21):
announced coming in February. Let's see what happens here. Hello, Yo,
what's up? Kip? I love how? I love how official?
That was from Donnas. He's like, I've got Cody Allen
on the line. Stand by. You're an important guy, man,
you know you are too. Wow. New UM Wild World
(00:45):
Deluxe Version. Congratulations. I'm wondering these songs you've held onto
for a long time or do you just write them?
Or with these extra tunes you're adding to the project?
Is it? Is it something that's been a long time coming.
Two of them are probably teen years old and the
other two were brand new, but I recorded both of them.
I always over record for every wet record UM, and
(01:09):
these songs were meant to be for the Wild World Record,
the initial record UM. But a lot of times you
get into it UM and you have to kind of
make a choice. UM for secreencings for flow of the record. UM.
I like to anchor all of my records with a
really thought provoking UM song that you gotta really chew on.
(01:31):
And I had Paying Hard and I had Man's Gotta
Do and they were both really really heavy. You don't
want to steal up a record with too much of that,
so I had to choose. UM one of them had
to be cut, and a Man's Got to Do was cut.
And now I get, you know, a chance to let
it have a little bit of life. What about the changing,
because I feel like that one sort of captures I
(01:51):
don't know, the moment. A lot of us are in
tell me about writing that one, Yeah, and you know,
and that was actually written pre COVID, but I felt like,
yeah for me, but it was it was kind of
one of those things where it was on the heels.
It was before all that UM with Weston Davis and
Blair Daily and I was just kind of, UM, My
(02:12):
thing was I felt like when I looked around UM,
I just felt like there was a lot of change
in a sense of I felt like I was kind
of surrounded in a world UM where people UM might
not have a certain strong backbone and certain things and
(02:33):
stand for what they what they feel is right, what
they think their truth is. I felt everyone was very fickle, um,
and I was just kind of touching on that. And
then once you know now the song, you know, it
really seems, you know, like I wrote it during you know,
the COVID times, but that wasn't the case. Music for
you is work a lot like my job, which I
(02:54):
love going to work every day. I mean what I'm
passionate about. Um. In fact, I wish I could take
a off or something, just like a distraction. But in
this time, it's been kind of fun just to go
to work every day, even though it's I'm lucky to
have it. How about you would have been your like
distractions over the past a little bit? Um? Well, I
mean I spent the first half the rock Climb and
(03:15):
probably three and a half months in Kentucky and then, um,
I put a studio inside my house. I've never done this,
and UM, I've been in mind Matthew Bell, who was
an insanely tality musician, producer, and we we always wanted
to do a record together. And people don't know this. Um,
not only do I have a deluxe coming, but we
(03:36):
we kind of hold up in my house and wrote
and made a whole another record. Um, and I kind
of was able to skate and keep my mind creative
in that mode in battle that that dark place this
whole situation could bring. And then and then I went
out through the desert in our mountain bikes and rock
climb for a while out in Arizona, and I wrote
(03:56):
a bunch while I was out there. And and now
I'm about to go surface. So I want Kid Moore's life. Um,
But thank you for the little musical tease there. You
got like some stuff in the hopper like it's coming soon,
so not just with the deluxe stuff, but with more
to come. Yeah, that's you live. You do live a
you know, wild world, Kip. It's true. I try to
(04:19):
keep that. I try to keep that flame burning, Cody,
you know what I mean. I try to keep that
childlike innocence alive as long as I can. Ye. One
thing I've always loved about you is I feel like,
first of all, you don't kiss any ass, and I
feel like you always are just yourself so genuine. How
much of this business have you had to do? Some
of that though, because I've been thinking a lot about
(04:39):
this lately, like the connections you have to make in
the music business to get somewhere or too um, you know,
get what you think you deserve. Um, have you had
to do any of that or have you just really
felt like you've been able to stay true to you Cody?
You know, I'll be honest, man, UM got it. You're
the first person who's ever asked that in my whole
career and just said it like it is. UM. So men,
(05:02):
I don't feel like I have ever had to alter
who I am. I truly don't, and I think that's
kind of cost me a little bit before being honest.
Um in the in the you know, I look at
things like do you take Wild World? It made like
every list from your your pace and your your American
songwriter and you know, once again, like it'll be at
(05:22):
the top of the you know, the record of the year,
and then I want to be on the ballot for things. UM.
I think that there's sometimes, UM, maybe some situations where
I've kind of said some things to people, maybe that
I should have said that or that, or that I
should have said UM. But I've I've always tried. The
friendships that I've made have been real UM. And you know,
(05:44):
I don't think there's ever been any smoking mirrors with me. Um.
I think that people kind of know where I stand. UM.
And a lot of times my intensity can be taken
for different things, um. You know, and maybe if I
didn't play along with a certain game, it's kind of
cost me with certain uh people at times. UM, when
I didn't do the song and dance, you know, it
(06:05):
might it might have knit me in the butt a
little bit as far as moving my commercial appeal forward. Um.
You know. And there's been times like where I've been
offered to maybe team up with somebody that could have
got me a chance on the show, when I've been like, no,
I'm not doing it because it didn't make any sense
to me. Um. So you know, and then some people
will call that me being defiant and stubborn. UM, but
(06:28):
I truly don't feel like I'm that way. I just
try to stay honestly what I feel inside. UM. And
you know, I've always gotten along with you, and I
feel that's a real thing. I don't feel like it's
like I'm having to be a certain way because I
don't feel like you're having to be a certain way
around me. I just I just enjoyed talking and chatting
with you, you know, so, UM, you know, so I
(06:51):
don't feel like I've had to do that that game,
and uh yeah, I certainly. I certainly feel like the
friendship that I've made have been real, you know, totally.
I appreciate you saying that. By the way, I mean
going back to don't Go Change, and it's sort of
sort of about that as well, like, UM, and I
love what you're doing with the video helping out independent
music venues as well, because obviously they're suffering right now too.
(07:13):
So tell me about that cause and why you want
to jump in and help. Yeah, Music City Venue Alliance Nashville,
UM in Van, you know, and there's the there's the
national one too, and there's a way to donate at
the end of the music video. UM. But basically through
this whole time, UM, I've always looked at it like
(07:36):
just two sides of the coin. UM. I get really
frustrated when people think there's a very direct, clear way
and path and answer, and we were so divided now
and we've got such strong feelings one way or the other,
and I've tried to always see it both ways. UM.
And I think that I think that a lot of
us are walking around with pixie dust in our eyes
right now. We just assumed that a light switch is
(07:58):
gonna cut back on and every thing's gonna be huckey
dorry again. And you know, for me, Um, I've been
okay in this situation. Um. I've lived a very simple life,
as you know, and I've had success for the last
ten years, but I haven't changed my way to live them.
So with that being said, I've got a little birdeness
to sit back on. But I haven't lost sight that
(08:21):
that's not the majority. And I get really frustrated a
lot of times with my friends that still have their
jobs and still have their comfort and they speak so
loudly about UM keeping things locked down. And for me,
it's not that I don't. It's not that I disagree.
It's not that I think that things shouldn't be or
(08:42):
shouldn't or should be. If you're not taking the time
to see someone's desperation, whether they own a restaurant, whether
they own a bar, whether whatever their business is, there's
people that are losing their livelihoods and they can't take
care of the families. And I haven't lost sight of
what it was like to live paycheck to paycheck. I've
(09:02):
never lost sight of that because I've never really changed
my way of living. Um. So with that being said,
I understand that there's people that are thinking differently and
have a very desperate approach to the situation. So I'm
hoping that people donate to these venues because when you
when you think the lights which is gonna cut back
on and it's just gonna magically be there, it's not
(09:23):
gonna be there, Like the ripple hasn't even hit us yet.
So there's a lot of ramifications from this whole thing,
and I just think that it's our job as humans
to take care of each other. Yeah, I think if
you're living comfortably and you have the means give listen.
I want to end with something fun here, so I
thought up some quick Kip tips. So I have a
(09:43):
few topics here. Just give me a quick tip from Kip.
One of these things. I see how you did that
first one here, Like a cooking tip from Kip. What
would you say, tacos seasoning on everything? You can't go wrong.
So just throw tacos man. You got a good you
got a good product. I believe in that. I believe that.
(10:05):
How about a home repair tip? Oh wow, home repair tip?
Uh um, super glue. Always have some super blue laying
around all right, here's one. A songwriting tip, be honest
fashion tip? Am I allowed to curse? Yes? Do it
(10:34):
your way? Don't give a ship with other people? Think
and your guy who's moved around a little bit here
and there, I mean over the years. So what's a
good moving tip? Start doing bad tip? Curls now. I
see your Instagram. I see you're doing something. I don't
know what it is. Uh. Last, but not least dating tip, Kip,
(10:59):
what would you say you're getting to the date? Man? Cody,
I'm the last person you want to ask tex question too,
and I've refused to be another person that's just given
their opinion on something that they have no clue about.
So it don't ask me. Okay, that will end it there, Kip,
you know I love you. I can't wait to see
you on the other side of all this. I can't
(11:20):
wait to see some live shows from you, hopefully soon.
And by keeping up with man, it's good to see
you doing well and I'm glad you're happy, and I
hope I get to see you too soon. Man, Hey,
