Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Cody Allen's podcast. This is Cody Castle Go.
Congratulations to this week's podcast guest Dylan Scott, who scored
his number one Nobody recently and one CMPT Breakthrough Video
of the Year at the same two Music awards in June.
Also on the road the Proud to Be Here tour

(00:22):
with Luke Brian right now, he's uh really on top
of the world. Dylan is on the line here. How
are you doing? Man, couldn't be better. I can tell
from all the posts on social media from you and Luke,
it looks like you're just having the time of your
life out there on the road. Dude. It is wold man.
Just all the people showing up to these shows. Obviously

(00:45):
you know, showing up to see Luke Bryant. But man,
they're good too. Is They are paying attention and singing
the songs and dancing and man, it's pretty cool, pretty
cool going from Nobody the twenty people so pun intended
your recent number one Nobody. I see what you did there.
Um yeah no, But seriously, they are loving you and
Luke as well. It looks like you guys have really

(01:06):
bonded just having man. He made a comment one night,
He's like, this is the best opening weekend of the
tour ever. So you can tell he's he's feeling in
as well. So it's uh, it's great, man, it's great
to be back. Have you learned any of his dance moves?
Is he teaching anything backstage? Uh? No, I have not.
I need to learn them a little better. He looked
at me on stage or the night and looked at

(01:28):
it started faking his hips like, hey, you do it,
And I tried it. I don't have the hip shaking
thing down yet. Yeah. What happens before and after those concerts? Like,
what's it like? Uh? You hanging with him much? Is
there friendly competition with the bands? You keep to yourself
on the bus before you go out? Was it really
like it's a it's kind of all over the place.

(01:50):
Every night was different. I mean, one night after the
show was back on Luke bus, just hanging out, you know,
doing the deal. Um. The next night, I'm fired up backstage,
tour managers slamming doors into my face. I got a nice,
nice little scar going onto my forehead right now. Oh dude,
I just I got off stage. Man. I was so jack, Like,

(02:11):
I was so excited, and I'm backstage in the green
room and I just like I started, I'm always full
of it, man, it's messing with my guys, And so
I'm messing with him, acting like I'm like, you know,
I don't know what I was doing, and I slam
a bathroom door and he was in there and he
like kicked it back open playing around. I was really close, dude.
He kicked it right into my forehead like I thought

(02:31):
I needed stitches. And yeah, it's on the TikTok. It's
on the TikTok. You can go check it out. But
it's it's fun. Man, it's crazy band aid up there
on your forehead or how's that it's healing up very nicely,
very nicely. And what was it like packing up and
sort of boarding the bus again that first weekend? Oh dude,

(02:53):
it was great. So usually our first show was like
a long ways away and I'll usually I'll catch up
Southwest fly or something and not ride the bus for
eighteen nineteen hours. But I was like, nope, I'm getting
on the bus on my guys. I'm gonna get out
of the house a little earlier, get away from these
wild kiddos. And uh yeah, so I just took the

(03:14):
bus up there with the guys and it was great. Man.
It was just cool knowing like, hey, we're getting on
a bus to get back on the first run of
a tour again. You know, it's pretty incredible. Luke actually
told me he was a little bit rusty and had
to go back through the songs again just to get
the words right. The crickets and the crickets and the squirrels,
buns and trees. Checking for the young books, check it

(03:37):
for the young bucks. How about for you any well,
you rusty at all? Are just primed and ready. Well,
you know, we've played. I've actually been playing some shows
of leading up to this UM, so I've had a
little bit of practice for the tour started. But I
will say my first show back UM this year from
the COVID pandemic, I was a little rusty. I will

(03:59):
say I forget one song. One song, I forgot a
first two UM. But other than that, okay, that's not bad.
It was it was good. Yeah, I didn't think that's
too bad. You know, you got the call from Luke
to do the tour, UM, I think you told me
you were doing yard work and I was pissed. Oh yeah,

(04:21):
not about him calling me about the door. I was
mad about the yard work. You're not a yard work guy. No,
don't get me wrong. I love dude. I love working
in my yard. I love mowing the grass. But what
I don't like is when it's really hot and you
get over to the wheat eater part, when you gotta
start weed eating. That's when I was kind of a
little aggravated and my weed eater wouldn't crank, and so

(04:43):
my watch literally inside and she's watching me. I'm throwing
the wheat eater across the yard and they don't call
me a couple. They caught off Carrie's phone, our manager,
and I was like, I just can't talk right now.
And finally I answered it and he was on the
line like what are you doing. I was like, man,
I'm doing yard work. But anyway makes for a cool story.
You want to go out on tour with me or

(05:05):
what that's about? How it went? Uh? You also have
a trash service, little trash company you started back home,
um in Louisiana. So um, I saw you on the
back of the trash truck. The strangest thing that happened
along the way with. I know it's a tough job.
The garbage business is a tough job. Man. I had

(05:26):
to find something to do during the pandemic. You know.
We I was riding and I was recording an album,
and I started a trash company with a buddy mine
in Louisiana. Were called the trash Guys. I'll tell you what, man,
I've uh, it's pretty enjoyable. I mean, as a kid.
And when you're a kid in the in the garbage
truck rolls up to your house and puts the can
in there and drives off. You're like, man, the garbage truck.

(05:48):
What a cool truck. And now and now I got
a garbage truck. Can you believe it? I just yeah,
So when I'm back home in Louisiana, like, I'll just
go get on the back of that thing, because you
gotta bring up my inner key. Right before you got
your record deal and all the success you've had, what
was the weirdest or worst job you you've had before?

(06:08):
I would say the worst job. I'm not really weird,
but the worst job was in the construction field at
a paper mill. I don't know if you know what
a paper mill. Oh yeah, this is a nasty, stinky
paper mill. And my dad, actually he worked for a
company that put me in this paper mill and they
put me on a jackhammer all day long. And I'm
telling you, I've never been sore, so sore in places

(06:31):
that I didn't know I could get sore in. But uh,
that taught me real quick that. Man, that's not the uh,
that's not the career path I want to take. You're like, man,
I gotta get this music thing working. I just want
to give me a guitar. I just want to pick
it on my fingertips. Sword that said, all that drive
led to where you are now, and nobody, in fact
one breakthrough video with the Seem Music Awards congratulates on that.

(06:53):
I think that was your your first award, right first award, dude,
and so cool fan voted. Um. You know, as a
as a young artist or aspiring artist, you watched all
these awards shows growing up and you see your favorite
artists walk on stage and give a speech and holy award,
and it's like, I just can't believe it happen. To
be honest with you, I got to walk on stage

(07:14):
and holy award and I don't even I don't even
know what I said, to be honest with you had
to watch it back to see, but it was it was.
It was awesome. I love that moment for you. I'm
so proud. So when it comes to the new song,
it's called new Truck. You just put that one out,
So what can you tell us about that one? New Truck.
It's a song I did not right. It's Hardy Hunter Phelps, actually,
Gordly Ben Johnson, some guys that nobody's ever heard of. Uh,

(07:36):
they sent it to me, and ironically enough, I was
in my truck and I'm listening to it, and man,
it's a it's an up tempo breakup song, which is great,
right up tempo breakup song. And I've been with my
wife since I was fifteen years old, but there was
a stint where we broke up for two or three months,
and you know, it's tough. You hop up in your
truck and you're still finding like her little chapstick and ponytails,

(08:00):
you know, under the scene, and he's like, man, I
just gotta quick thinking about this girl. And so the
songs like to do that to get her out of
your mind, I just need to go get in their truck.
So pretty cool. Little tone man, it's uh's got a
lot of energy. Yeah, And I assume when you said
pony tell us under you meant like scrunch Eesah yeah,
the little what's the little things? I was looking you know,

(08:21):
when you're your kid. I always used to wear them
on my wrists, a little black and white. What are
those called? I mean, like a little rubber band thinkies? Yeah, OK, yeah,
that's that's what I'm rubber band hair bands. Okay, let's
play little Dylan Scott or Dylan not here if you're
the end of these things are not? Okay? Alright, alright

(08:42):
here we didn't playing live obviously, Dylan Scott working out,
Dylan Scott sleeping in. Oh. I do enjoy it, but
I hate when I do it. But I'm still gonna
stay doing Scott changing diapers, dealing not emojis? Are you

(09:04):
an emoji guy? I'm a middle of the road emoji guy.
I'm not overboard, but yeah, I'm dealing Scott emoji. H
you said TikTok. I mean, obviously you're on TikTok posting
quite a bit. Do you enjoy that though? Um? Yeah,
I actually do enjoy posting on on TikTok. It's uh,
I get caught up on TikTok way too long because

(09:25):
there's some funny stuff on there, man, funny stuff. Scott
Scott or not here the impossible burger. These are the
veggie burgers they're putting out. I guess are they veggie burgers?
Like you're a replacement meat or whatever it is. I'm
a I'm a dealing, not um ordering out. A lot
of people have either ordered out of cooked at home

(09:45):
over the past year. How about ordering out for you?
I do enjoy ordering out, enjoy cooking too, but I
don't I'm dealing Scott uh zoom No, Dalan not, I'm
not a fan. I'm over it. And fin You've got
an incredible hairline and wonderful Maine there. So I assume

(10:07):
shaving your head that's the Dylan not Dylan was not
ever gonna happen. Well, I'm just never saying never. If
I start losing my hair and I got looking like
papal deal over here, I might have to shave it.
And finally interviews with Cody Allan, Scott or not was
a question? Yeah, yeah, that's why. Yeah, Dylan Scott all

(10:30):
day long? All right, dude, I can't wait. I think
we're gonna do are like an actual maybe Hot twenty
show on the road, so one of these stops with
you guys. Thought about that this weekend. I was out
there doing sound check. I was like, is gonna come out?
That'd be cool. We definitely want to so listen. Thanks
for the time today. Always great, Dylan Scott, appreciate youth.
