that love can't heal. Redeeming Love, featuring Abigail Cowan, Tom Lewis,

Here from our music road studios in Nashville, Tennessee, where
we just see stars walking all over the place and
(01:50):
we just happen to run across these guys Old Dominion. Um,
what a string of hits these guys have had recently,
and a string of awards as well, and they have
a lot to be proud of. They have a new
album project coming out and I'll tell you we're going
to be covering a lot of a lot of this
year with the guys. Uh. There was booze involved. Uh,
(02:11):
not only in the recording of the album, but the
title of the album. There's tequila right time. Tequila and
therapy is the name of the right boy? Did they
need all that? And because there are always a lot
of fun we always get a kick out of them,
and you especially well you started a trend here with
their drummer with Yeah, what what doesn't like to talk
to He's kind of a quiet Uh? Would you say
(02:33):
thinker deep thinker of the group? Wouldn't that far? I
came up with our witness get it? So we love
We always ask with a special question just to you know,
delve deep into his mind to learn something about life. Okay, yeah,
that that highlight is coming up as part of the
(02:54):
podcast that's later. But first we want to talk about
this amazing hit. I was on a boat that day, crazy,
wonderful and way too much fun. Congratulations on the success
of the music here guys. And by the way, I've
been dying to ask this. Matthew you were on the
video for Imazon a boat that day. You were singing
along to the lyrics following a jet ski. There's got
(03:16):
to be an award for that. Have you received it yet?
You know? I mean, people, thank you for appreciating that,
because that that was harder than you would think. You know,
there was no there was no playback or anything. He
was just like, I just go out there and sing it. Yeah,
And there was no place to hold your drink on
that jet ski. You know, know we were I was
just out there, you know, blind, just singing it, hoping
(03:37):
it lined up with the video. Well, yes, listen, you
guys are doing with this album what an album should do.
It just seems like a bunch of friends that got
together making great music, and you have invited us to
the party to drink and talk and just have a
great time. Is that what you were hoping for? The
(03:57):
vibe you were going for pretty much nailed it. Yeah,
that's we We just decided we wanted to get together
and see what we could create just on the spot.
So that's what we did, and we're very fortunate that
we got an entire album's worth of material. Well, you know,
you have always kept your songwriting circle really tight, and
especially for this album, it's just you know, the five
of you and and Shane and Josh just you know,
(04:18):
hitting it hard and getting all the songs written. Why
does that work for you? That method? You know, I
think you just find you know, we do write with
quite a number of different people, but you do have
chemistry with certain people. And obviously this time it was
fun for all five AM members to be on every song.
But Josh and and Shane and Matt Jenkins as well,
they're just they've we've all been so close long before
(04:42):
we ever had any success. Just because we have a chemistry,
it works well. So just to back up, you guys
were talking about it being a party and everything on
the album liner notes, I see you thank Jack Daniels,
which is proper. But during this therapy session you also
came up with a song which probably is the shortest
song the history of come to music, called what I
Know About Girls. Yeah, it was Win on that one.
(05:06):
Oh yeah he was on that one. Yeah, yeah for sure,
really played really quietly. Was he a consultant on the lyrics? Yes, yes,
absolutely he. I mean we all collectively know nothing. So
w is a Jack of all trades a doctor man. Yeah, yeah, Charlie.
Did you bring this up because you have something to
(05:28):
add to the lyrics of that song? No, not really,
I'm nothing nothing. I want to confess. I mean I
feel like maybe you could relate to that song. Am
I wrong? No? I can concur That's what I can do.
Just know, all us girls, we really appreciate the lyrics
because they are so true. You know, every time we
(05:48):
talk to you guys, we do have to have a
new witnesicism, the wisdom of Wit. So I would ask Wit,
when you're looking at getting over something, which is the
best way to do it? And why is it time?
Is it tequila or is it therapy? You know, probably
a combination of all three. But you know, as they say,
(06:09):
time heals all wounds, so that kind of includes everything. Okay,
that's true. Well I follow a question here. How does
tequila change with there are guys? I mean, does it
get quieter? Uh? Have something? Does it get religious? So
we have something um calling a man on fire and
that's a cocktail. It's a cocktail that has tequila in it.
And that's Wit is named after Wit because he catches
(06:32):
fire when he when he has does he know it.
He sometimes red, but then he agrees sometimes to be like,
you're on fire right now, you'd be like, yes, yes,
i am. Look I have to know what are the
other Charlie is hysterical over here. We're so fire. The
other ingredients in this Man on Fire drink it and
(06:56):
club soda. There's also three. There's a Boy on Fire,
Man on Fire, and then a World on Fire. I've
actually never drank World on Fire. A Boy on Fire
is the smaller version. Yeah. Great, sounds like this album
(07:17):
is petroleum based. Hey, special guest on the c D
I was knocked out with this Gladdus night, So it's
it's you. Guys became honorary pips. I guess we were
the pips. Yeah, yeah, lots of lots of pips comments. Yeah, absolutely,
what a what an honor it was though to have
her in the studio. Man, she's just a legend and
we're lucky to have her. Man was amazing that she said, yes, Well,
(07:38):
I mean, it must blow your mind, because you know,
she doesn't sing with just anybody. Something must make you
you feel really like we're starting to wonder that we're
starting to wonder maybe she does just sing with anything
she's with us, I mean, maybe we're not that special. Well,
and where is Echo Mountain Studios also known as the
(08:00):
Old Dominion bar Ashville, North Carolina Asheville. Okay, that's some
of that's close to my old neck of the woods
over there. Well, it turns out Gladys lives there too,
so um it was part of the whole thing was that,
you know, just her name came up and turns out
she lives in Ashville where we were recording. Hey, listen,
we must compliment you on this string of awards. And
(08:24):
you know, I hate to even bring it up because
we don't want to jinx it, but we just have
to pat you on the back. You have a string
of awards going here and now even new nominations here
with CMA coming up. Talk to us about that awards
after all this time. I mean you started winning them early.
What is your feeling about awards and what they mean
(08:45):
to you at this point? I think they mean a lot.
You know, I think it's funny because you can't you
can't focus on that. I mean, we started writing songs
and recording signs of being a band, just completely focused
on the music and making our face even at music,
so that's kind of just a byproduct of that. You know,
there's nothing you can do to try to win an award, really,
(09:06):
but when when you see people recognize you and you
know it, it feels great. It makes you feel like
all your all your hard work and everything is paying
off and you're doing something right. So you're certainly deserving
of the awards. And I'm just curious when you guys
win a group of the your award to each of
you get one or is there just one and you
all fight over it? Yeah? We actually they actually make five.
(09:27):
The only the only exception is we won an award
from waffle House and they only gave us one shop,
which is which was probably it was very upsetting. It
was tough. Did you end up with? It should have
been scattered, smothered and covered all of the Well, listen,
who is the fanciest dresser when you go to award shows?
(09:50):
Who's the fancy? Oh man? We all get fancy? We all,
we all except for well, you know, with it's all relative.
That's a good point, very Nancy four wit. Yeah, thank
you for well, guys, you've made the past few minutes
happy hour for us. Appreciate and an idea, a new
drink for with pants on fire. Pants on fire. I
(10:12):
don't know if I'm qualified for that one. I think
that's like the Shirley Temple of the minute, there's no alcohol.
I like this idea. Y'all take care of each other,
be safe out there. Oh my god, Charlie, can you imagine.
I mean, let's say that during one of these interviews
you had been drinking. I had been drinking Old Dominion
(10:35):
had been drinking again. Can you imagine how far off
the rails we would all We just have to have
a designated host because none of us. There was so
much fun. They are great, but a great bunch of guys.
And this is the fourth year in a row they
have won the CMA Award for Top Vocal Groups, So
congratulations to them. The new projects, a lot of fun time,
(10:55):
tequila therapy, and I was on a both that day.
