Would you consider waking up to a smell? Holiday Inn Express is rolling out a really weird but kind of genius idea: Instead of waking you up with a buzzing alarm, they’re installing scent-based alarm clocks in rooms.

When it’s time to get up, the device acts like a diffuser and releases breakfast smells like coffee, bacon, blueberry muffins, or even fruit scents like mango or pear, depending on where you are.

They’ll start this in hotels across Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, and Thailand.

The idea comes from research showing that 58% of travelers in the Asia Pacific say a pleasant scent helps make waking up better.

They’re calling it the “Breakfast Alarm Clock,” trying to help guests ease into their morning — and maybe make sure they don’t skip breakfast while traveling?

Could you walk up to a smell versus a sound? Listen back for more

Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Seacrest, Sisiny and Tanya in the back room. Holiday
in Express is rolling out a really interesting thing. Instead
of waking you up with a buzzing alarm, they're installing
scent smell aroma based alarm clocks in rooms.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
I'm kind of here for this.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
I think it's a genius idea.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
So it diffuses the smells of coffee, bacon, and blueberries,
not all, no, not all at the same time.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
It's breakfast smells. Yeah, you gonna make a coffee smell.
You can wake up to bacon these.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Kind of well twofold one. Then you're gonna go buy
breakfast order food.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Yeah, then you get hungry, like instantly exactly. But it
is a very pleasurable way I think to wake up.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
Yeah, blueberries.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Do you think this becomes something that we can all get?
I think so.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Well.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
They're starting these in hotels in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore,
so I can see this coming to the US.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
So absolutely start with the smell of coffee.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Yeah, and but like you can choose, they have all
the difference smells right there in your room.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
You'd be like today, bacon does remind me of childhood too,
so I might start with bacon.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Bacon might be a little too intense. Maple syrup would
be yeah, maybe like pancakes smell.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
I am voting for this. Whenever it's on the bill,
you are on air with Ryan Seacrest.
