Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is On with Mario Lopez.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Here we go Thursday edition of On with Mario Courtney Lopez.

Speaker 3 (00:06):
A lots to get to, including today's guest Canadian Breakout
Country Artists of the Year Ownrigaling.

Speaker 4 (00:11):
Plus we'll see what's waiting for us over in Courtney's corner,
squeeze in some buzz, and so much more So turn
it up. You are on with Mario and Courtney Lopez.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
You're on Mario Courtney Lopez.

Speaker 5 (00:22):
Simon Call getting back into the boy band business.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
On with Mario Lopez, Hollywood Buzz.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
So it's been fourteen years since Simon Call helped form
One Direction. Can't believe it's been that long now, he says,
there really hasn't been a super successful boy band since then.
I think BTS had a pretty good amount of success.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Wants to ext it.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
Okay, yeah they really did, but anyway, he thinks the
time is right to bring back the genre. He's launching
a search across the UK to find the next generation
of talent. He wants to personally audition people in person.
So he has no interest in TikTok stars who posts
from their bedrooms.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
Okay, oh, he wants to be like the old time.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yes, in person, old times.

Speaker 5 (01:02):
Good for him, the good old days.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
More Mario Lopez on the way.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
What up, Mario Courtney Lopez here, let's put a spotlight
on my wife. It's time for Courtney's random thought.

Speaker 5 (01:13):
What you got, honey?

Speaker 4 (01:14):
If we aren't supposed to snack at night? Why is
there a light in the fridge.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Well, sometimes as you get older, your vision gets poor,
Like myself, you need everything a little brighter, and sometimes
at night you don't want to turn on all the lights,
and just the light on the fridge is just.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
Enough to grab that little piece of chocolate.

Speaker 6 (01:35):
Yes, it is.

Speaker 5 (01:36):
By the way, you need to go to the store
and get some more dark chocolate.

Speaker 6 (01:38):
I know.

Speaker 5 (01:38):
Come, we don't have anything killing me?

Speaker 7 (01:42):
What out?

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Mario Courtney Lopez here?

Speaker 3 (01:43):
And the success of shows like Yellowstone is giving us
a genre of television. They're calling it dad TV. This
includes series like Reacher, Outer Range, Jack Ryan, and Bosh.
Amazon CEO says look for more programming targeting the forty
plus demographic in the future. You know all those shows
are pretty That sounds harsh. Well, here's the thing I'm

(02:07):
gonna tell you why I think it's working. Those are
very masculine shows sort of throwback old school, and we're
missing a lot of that in TV these days.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
Yeah, like the good old days exactly.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Yes, it's like the old times.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Yeah, Yamaro Courtney Lopez.

Speaker 5 (02:22):
And there's a mom who's gone.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Viral right here in southern California. She refuses to return
her shopping cart when she goes to the store. She
says she's not leaving her kids alone in the cart,
even for the few moments it takes to return a
shopping cart. Some are calling her entitled or karen, but
she says she trusts her intuitions. Do you think she's
being lazy or overprotective?

Speaker 4 (02:45):
Well, if you would ask me one piece of advice
to give to a new parent. This is something I've
always done since our first baby, whenever they're with me
at the grocery store or whatever, which is rare because
I try not to take them because they always want
to drive me crazy, and.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
You also can't dance.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
And though I always park in a parking space next
to the return cart. Smart so I always tell new
moms that that's like a stupid little hack, but it's it.
It's a good you're right there and you can put
the cart back and your kids in the car. I
leave the door open. So I don't agree with this mom,

(03:25):
because there are ways to do it and not have
to leave your kids. So I think she's rong.

Speaker 8 (03:32):
That's a good hack in general, not even with kids,
Like just park near it and then you don't have
to go for it.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Yeah. More, Mario Lopez coming up.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Mario Lopez here, and this is kind of relevant considering
it throwback Thursday. Van Ella Ice has turned a one
hit wonder into a real estate empire. I like to
hear this kind of stuff. He invested in properties back
in the day, so smart that he would remodel and flip,
and today it's paying out big time. I says is
worth went from nine million dollars six years ago to

(04:00):
twenty million today. Go ahead, Robert van Winkle, not too bad.
All right, let's get back to music.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Mario Courtney Lopez here.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Today's guest will be zooming in any moment now. He's
Canadian country singer Owen Wriggling. He's touring the US. Right now,
we get the inside scoop.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yes, soebro Mario Lopez Jordan.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Right now, Canadian country music breakthrough Artists of the Year,
Owen Wriggling.

Speaker 5 (04:25):
What's going on on?

Speaker 6 (04:26):
Man, nothing is going on. I'm just happy to be
here talking with you, my friend.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Well, I appreciate you taking the time. Congratulations. I know
you recently got married. Did you go did you go
big wedding intimate?

Speaker 5 (04:39):
What'd you think of the whole shebang?

Speaker 7 (04:41):
It was a much bigger wedding than I ever thought
I would have.

Speaker 6 (04:45):
I guess it.

Speaker 7 (04:45):
Never put too much thought into my wedding as a
kid growing up. But we had, like, there was over
three hundred people at my parents' farm and we had
outside on big size the middle of a cornfield. It
was a pretty pretty awesome day. And yeah, I'm still
still riding the high. It was only two months ago,
so it's still pretty.

Speaker 5 (05:03):
Fresh, brand new.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Well, congratulations, welcome to the club.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
The latest single, Moonshines, is climbing the charts right now.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
What inspired this one?

Speaker 5 (05:13):
You have moonshiners in your family or what I mean?

Speaker 7 (05:15):
I've I've definitely dabbled with moonshine growing up in high school.
I'm from a town of one thousand people up the
middle of nowhere in Ontario, Canada called mild May and
certainly lots of moonshine footing around there, but no, I
definitely didn't run moonshine.

Speaker 6 (05:29):
Like the song kind of insinuates.

Speaker 7 (05:31):
It's sort of a you know, a bit of a
story song about you know, sort of what it might
have been like as a moonshine runner back in the day.
And it's just kind of a fun, fun song to
open up the show. So yeah, it's cool that it's
it's out and.

Speaker 6 (05:44):
Doing his thing.

Speaker 5 (05:45):
Nice.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Man.

Speaker 5 (05:45):
I actually like me some moonshine when done.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Too.

Speaker 6 (05:49):
I had I had pickle moonshine in Nashville the other week.
Very good. They got all kinds of flavors of moonshine.

Speaker 7 (05:54):
Now the moonshine I remember having at like a high
school party back in the day.

Speaker 6 (05:58):
Was it tastes likesine? It was disgusting.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Yeah, No, I had someone like fermented and peaches or something.

Speaker 5 (06:04):
That was good.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
Well, we had a lot to talk about. We gotta
take a break. I'm gonna come back with Owen Wriggling
in just a moment.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
More fun on the way on with Mario Lopez.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Mario Lopez here.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
My guest today is Canadian country artist Owen Wriggling. And congrats.
I know you recently won two Canadian Country Music Awards,
one of which was Songwriter the Year for your song
Old Dirt Roads.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
What about that song?

Speaker 5 (06:23):
What's what's the backstory there?

Speaker 6 (06:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (06:25):
I wrote Older Roads in twenty nineteen in my college
apartments and it was my first time experience when what
it was like living in a city. I come from
a small town, like I said, and I was going
to school, and I was driving to school every day,
and I was waiting for like, you know, thirty forty
five minutes in traffic, you know, doing that.

Speaker 6 (06:44):
For a year for the first time.

Speaker 7 (06:46):
It kind of was a bit of like a shock,
I guess because the only traffic I was used to
is riding down a back road behind like a tractor
or a horse and buggy.

Speaker 6 (06:56):
And I think it just kind of that song fell
out of me.

Speaker 7 (06:58):
I was it was like a thirty minute right by
myself in my bedroom and I just missing home. I
wrote a lot of songs about missing home, and it's
just cool that that's sort of the song that's allowed
me to do a lot more touring and you know,
win that award, and it's a song that I just.

Speaker 6 (07:14):
Never would have thought it would have taken me there,
you know, six years later or whatever it is.

Speaker 5 (07:18):
So yeah, well you never know, man, which one's gonna
pop right there?

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Well, it's hit pause for a moment.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
We gotta play some more music.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
What Amara Lopez, You're hanging out with country artists Owenriegling
and your new EP, Bruce County dropped earlier this year.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
But talk me about the Call.

Speaker 7 (07:33):
Yeah, so the Call is a very special song to me.
I you know, I've lost some people growing up, friends, family,
lots of family and stuff like that, and the song
is just a buddy of mine had passed and I
started writing the song. After that I got a verse
and you know, the chorus, and a couple months later,
my aunt had passed away and it just kind of

(07:55):
fell out.

Speaker 6 (07:56):
Of me, and like I I, I don't know how.

Speaker 7 (07:58):
I mean, everybody deals with grief sort of differently, and
for me, writing songs is always kind of in a
way to just get it all out there and kind
of say what I'm feeling.

Speaker 6 (08:05):
And that's where this song came from.

Speaker 7 (08:08):
It's about a call that you never want to get,
but one that you definitely won't forget, and it means
a lot to me.

Speaker 6 (08:15):
We just did a one take recording of it in
the studio.

Speaker 7 (08:19):
I just acoustic and a guitar, kind of stripping it
back to where I started in music.

Speaker 6 (08:23):
So I'm super suited to finally have it out.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Well, that's cool.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
You're able to kind of channel that into work, so
good for you. Well, hold on, I've got to play
some more music. You're a Mario Lopez got Canadian country
artists owned wriggling on zoom with me.

Speaker 5 (08:36):
What can fans expect when they come see you live?

Speaker 6 (08:40):
It's dynamic.

Speaker 7 (08:41):
We you know, we start out pretty rocking, and there's
some loud guitars and some loud drums, and you know,
we kind of go through all the phases of what
I think a good live show should be. A lot
of stories, a lot of new songs that I've been
writing that you know, are just post metal is in
my phone at this point that I'm sort of trying.

Speaker 6 (08:59):
Out on the road, and nice, I would say, I
kind of I.

Speaker 7 (09:02):
Bring a lot of me in my hometown and the
way that I was raised to these crowds, which I
think is the most important part.

Speaker 6 (09:09):
Of our show.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
So I'm sure, yeah, you can resonate. We one more
thing I want to ask, We've got to take another break.
I'm gonna come back with Owen Wrigling in just a moment.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
You're the full interview now at on with Mario dot com.
More Mario Lopez on the way.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
Mario Lopez here, we're having things up with country artists
Owen Wrigling.

Speaker 5 (09:24):
And does your wife go with you on tour?

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Yeah, she does.

Speaker 7 (09:27):
She's actually she was just in the bus before, but
I think she's now. But yeah, she's around with us
and help them with social media with ego.

Speaker 6 (09:35):
Is very nice for me. Keep it in the you know,
she's great out here. She keeps me saying cool.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
Well, congrats on everything.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
Man, be sure to check out all of Owen's music
right now on your iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 5 (09:48):

Speaker 6 (09:52):
Thank you so much for taking that time. Man, appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
You got a brother. Take care.

Speaker 3 (10:08):

new message in our inbox courtesy the talkback.

Speaker 5 (10:13):
Button on your iHeart Radio app.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
Let's give it a listen.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
This is a step slam from a Oska. I'm with
my boyfriend fingers in California. We love you.

Speaker 5 (10:24):
Thank you.

Speaker 6 (10:25):
You're cool dude.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Ah, he is a cool dude. Slater, Hey, thank you
so much. Slater.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
You sound pretty cool too, all the way from Alaska.
Alaska is awesome.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
And listen.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
If you've got something you want to tell, let's just
hit the talkback button on the bottom of your right
heart radio ACP. You're Mario, Courtney Lopez, Taddler and a
new live act. What is the topic today at Courtney's Corner?

Speaker 4 (10:46):
Our New Year's resolutions?

Speaker 2 (10:49):
Don't do them?

Speaker 6 (10:50):
You know, I don't do it.

Speaker 4 (10:51):
I know. They should just be just new goals. You know,
why do we have to say resolution.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
About your wife?

Speaker 4 (10:55):
Yeah, as much as eighty percent of us have already
given up on them, let's hit the rees that button. Okay.
First off, let's not start our resolutions until March first.
You know, between now and then we can be really
thoughtful about what we want to improve. I know, but
you know, the few weeks into January, people are just
getting back into the groove of things.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
You know.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
No, I'm just saying this is why I think, you know,
don't be so hard on yourself. Started it later and
next let's make a resolution that's only one word, for instance,
discipline or fitness, or one word consistency. Put the word
on your fridge or your desk. And because of that,
you're going to make your goals uber specific instead of
you know, I want to lose weight, make it I

(11:39):
will only eat pizza twice a month, because I firmly
believe too, it's not about not having the things you like,
but incorporating all the healthy things that you should be
putting into your body.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
Well being specific, I think is great. However, as I
say that, I do pray for the strength to have
discipline every day. Yeah, discipline to eat right, disciplined to
sleep right, discipline to take care of my body, discipline
to be at home at a certain till that discipline
is the number one thing that I asked for, strained for,

(12:11):
because if you could be disciplined, then you be regimented,
and your rest of your life is compliment more.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
Mario Lopez on the way, Mario Courtney Lopez. Here, we
got your first look at the next Marvel movie. It's
called Thunderbolts.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
Julia Louis Drives puts together a team of villains, including
Florence Hugh and David Harber.

Speaker 4 (12:28):
Oh, it looks like it's heavy on laughs and action
and hits theaters in May. But you can see the
trailer now at on with Mario dot Com.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
Mario Courtney Lopez here with details of the next big
music doc, this one about earth.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
Win in Fire.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
Yes, it's going to be directed by Questlove, the drummer
for the Roots.

Speaker 5 (12:45):
He won an oscar by the way for his last doc,
Summer of Soul.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
Yeah, no word yet on the release date. Earth Wind
and Fire have sold ninety million albums worldwide and have
seven top ten hits, including do you Remember.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
Marion Courtney Lopez, Time to put on our ticket caps?

Speaker 5 (13:03):
Get the Courtey's random question, what you got?

Speaker 4 (13:05):
What is a game that you've played as a child
that you love to play as an adult.

Speaker 5 (13:11):
Fictionary? Love me some Pictionary, still likes categories.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
Now, I haven't played this in a while, but I'd
still like Monopoly too.

Speaker 5 (13:20):
However, Monopoly is like a never ending game. It doesn't end.

Speaker 4 (13:23):
It is the kids like to play it, and.

Speaker 5 (13:26):
It's like it's more of whoever is it?

Speaker 1 (13:28):
Like?

Speaker 5 (13:28):
Has some more stamina?

Speaker 2 (13:29):
Take a marathon.

Speaker 8 (13:30):
There is a quicker way to play it. There's a
there's a documentary about Monopoly, which seems like it would
be boring, but it's actually kind of interesting. On Amazon Prime.
It's older and they show you in there like multiple
ways to play. There's a quicker way to do it.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
Interesting. I'm going to check that out.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
Cheater face.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
More.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
Mario Lopez coming up, Mario Courtney Lopez here and the
guys in Cold Play making plans to retire from the
recording studio.

Speaker 4 (13:56):
They say they're only going to make two more albums,
and that is what Chris Martin says. Every good thing
has a limit. There's only seven Harry Potter books and
only twelve Beatles album so there you have it.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Wow, Mario Courtney Lopez here. Let's take a look at
what's treading.

Speaker 5 (14:13):
On the iHeart Radio app.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
Charlie XCX talks about taking her parents to the club
with her search Okay, las Cotta ristas to hear that
how was that?

Speaker 5 (14:23):
That was good? Las Cortista's very good.

Speaker 4 (14:25):
Shaboozi reveals how he got featured on two Beyonce songs
and you can find that by searching Billy and Lisa,
Nie Shaboozy and Sophia Ver got his son, Manolo told
us which celebrity impressed him the most on his new
cooking game show, Manolo Blanik. Just open your iHeartRadio app
and search on with Mario.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
Y A Mario Courtney Lopez. Let's get your questions in comments.

Speaker 6 (14:50):
Would you find honey?

Speaker 4 (14:51):
This is from at TECARN four two one. They said,
my resolution is not to be woken up hungover to
the voice of Mario Lopez. If you know you know.

Speaker 3 (15:02):
Oh now, there's no relation with TCARN and I just
a clear thing.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
I'm not in person right right to clear.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
Things up, They're referring to must see movies with Mario
in the hotel channel and in like a million hotel rooms.
If you turn it on, I'm gonna be the first
thing that pops up, which is the craziest thing.

Speaker 6 (15:23):
I'm terrifying.

Speaker 5 (15:24):
Yeah, and it's on.

Speaker 4 (15:25):
Imagine him when I walk in, he's behind me and
in front of me.

Speaker 8 (15:28):
I'm like, dad, I go on vacation or something, and
it's like I'm Mario Lopez.

Speaker 5 (15:33):
Damn it.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
Yeah, exactly. So it's on a constant loop.

Speaker 5 (15:36):
TCARN, come on, you know you want.

Speaker 6 (15:38):
To hear me.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
More.

Speaker 7 (15:40):
Mario Lopez coming up O Mario Courtney Lopez here, let's
put a spotlight on my wife because she's got a
new joke.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Let's see what's up, honey.

Speaker 4 (15:49):
So this is a little known fact. Before the crowbar
was invented, crows had to drink at home.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Hey, good delivery, wah wah.

Speaker 5 (16:00):
I like the jokes.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
They're getting better and your timing and delivery, you're getting fantastic.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
What do you mean they're getting better? To take it easy?
What a Mario Courtney Lopez here? We got big news
for all.

Speaker 5 (16:10):
The bridgeton Head Season four started filming.

Speaker 4 (16:12):
Going to focus on Benedict, who doesn't want to settle
down until he meets the Lady in Silver at his
mother's masquerade bomb.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
Musquerade, Oh Benedict.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
A little bit of bad news though Netflix isn't expected
to air the new episodes until twenty twenty six.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
Oh my gosh, what are we supposed to do?

Speaker 6 (16:33):
Here?

Speaker 3 (16:34):
Are Mario Courtney Lopez and I finally have gotten missus
Lopez to start training in jiu jitsu, not just her,
but our daughter Jia, whole family.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
They're going to be family of fighters.

Speaker 5 (16:47):
They're going to be crazy, they're going to be training together.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
Well, here's the thing.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
It's in all women's class because jiu jitsu very intimate,
very physical, and uh, maybe I'm a bit old school,
but I'm fine with they're doing that with ladies, and
it's it's good to know. It really is the gentle art.
It's a thinking person's martial arts, and it's incredible self defense.
So god forbid you're ever in a position. It's good

(17:11):
to know you're already strong and athletics. So I think
you're gonna. I think you're gonna like it, and I
think it's a good bonding for you and Gia. I
know you're just humoring me, but I hope you do
like it.

Speaker 8 (17:22):
Arguments of your house are gonna get chaotic.

Speaker 5 (17:24):
I know that's right. We're gonna be throwing down.

Speaker 8 (17:27):
With there you go with Sonny's like strange Toddler strength.
He's gonna win it, all right, thoughts.

Speaker 4 (17:35):
You know it's something to try. I don't like being barefoot?

Speaker 5 (17:39):
What do you mean you don't like being barefoot?

Speaker 4 (17:41):
I'm gonna you know where yoga socks.

Speaker 5 (17:44):
No, you have to be barefo.

Speaker 4 (17:45):
I don't have to be barefoot.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
Everybody is barefoot.

Speaker 5 (17:48):
What do you mean you don't like to be there
if they're not always barefoot at the house, but I don't.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
I never like to dance.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
Barefoot girls do though.

Speaker 5 (17:55):
I never like that.

Speaker 4 (17:56):
I never liked it. I just don't like being barefoot.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
Put your barefoot on a you're not barefoot on the
on the floor and the mats are clean, it's your
barefoot on the mat, Robert Professor Roberts said, she.

Speaker 5 (18:06):
Text me, she don't she just messing with me. I go,
I think she's just messing with you.
