Speaker 1 (00:01):
With Mario Lopez. All right, back to the music in
a sac Mario Lopez here, let's welcome to the show
the Backstreet Boys. What's going on, fellas, that's a party
with you guys. Right there, Let's get right into the music.
New single just dropped, Don't Go Break in My Heart.
What's the what's the backstory with this song? It's a
great song that was submitted to us, simple as that.

(00:24):
It doesn't always have to be a heartfelt uh backstory? Right,
Sometimes you just hear it. It's a good jam and
let's do it. It's that simple, huh. Yeah. And we
also feel like if we don't have the word heart
in one of our songs, it's just like an omen
that it's not going to do well. Yeah, exactly know,
heart has to be in one of our songs. Yeah. Actually,
there is a little bit of a backstory. The producer
Stuart Christen came to our show out in Vegas. We

(00:47):
had demoed a song that he sent prior and um
he came to see our show and was inspired and
then went back in the lab and created this this song.
So it does have a little bit of a backstory.
It wasn't by Las Vegas and uh, you already dropped
the video and and was this a bit inspired by
some of your older videos because it kind of has

(01:07):
that same feel. Absolutely, it's a bit of a throwback,
you know, right, yeah, we I mean we um. I know,
we were having this conversation and obviously we're a little older,
but we were talking about and I told the guys,
I said, listen, guys, I really think we we should
just dance in this video, you know what I mean,
and like really just be be who we are, you
know what I mean. And you know, obviously we're doing

(01:28):
the Vegas Show, and you know that it's full of
choreography and it's a big show and just kind of
showcase what we do best as as well as like
you know, vocal harmonies and everything else on top of that.
And then you know, we got together with our old
choreographers and uh, we love these guys rich in Tone
and just we gave him an opportunity to really direct
a music video and they came through for us and
we got to work for the It's kind of our

(01:50):
second time working with the choreographer Alex chung Um, who
actually choreographed some of our stuff for our Las Vegas
residency and he's like fresh young, you know, really smooth
moves and keeping it kind of simple but yet big
and uh you know, he really made us kind of
step up our game and it turned out great. I mean,
the video shows that. So we pretty much just wanted

(02:11):
to make sure everybody knew we could dance. Still. Maybe
in a couple more years we may not be doing
exactly the same moves, but for right now we can.
We still got it. Still, we got it. Damn man,
you guys, you guys are holding up. You you've aged
will so good for you? And is there gonna be
a full album in the future. Perhaps you're just dropping
things at this point. Absolutely, I mean the plan is
right now we're gonna hopefully let this this song get

(02:33):
out there and breathe and see where it goes with that.
And but in the meantime, we've been recording for the
past what year and a year and a half now,
and we're still not done. We're still always constantly getting
new stuff sent to us, and we just feel like,
you know, God willing, if we can get another single
out there, then hopefully by the end of this year,
God willing will have an album out. If not, when
it's meant to be out, it will come out. And

(02:54):
we're getting up for a big tour next year, worldwide
tour with that album. Nice, nice, congratulations on that and
you and you Breathe fully mentioned Vegas and I know
you're gonna be going back to Vegas this summer for
another residency, right, yep, yep. Um. And it all started
with just nine shows. A j stopped talking, I'm gonna
talk ahead. Um. Yeah, it all started with nine shows

(03:15):
about a year and a half ago, and then we're
up to I think sixty three now, I think as
we add it all up. Uh, So we will be
back July through August August twelve, and then we'll be
back in October and November for a four week run there,
and then we'll be back in February and nineteen. So

(03:36):
we got a busy schedule. But launching the album this fall,
like how he was talking about, so, uh, you know,
celebrating twenty five years together. Not a not a bad gig,
not a bad gig, but not bad at all. This
is all happening at the Planet Hollywood Resort in Casino. Yes, yeah,
that's a great Yeah, that's a great venue right there.
I gotta imagine the residencies are like sort of the

(03:57):
best of both worlds. Right, you're kind of on the road,
but you don't have to do the tour bus thing.
Or do you actually like the tour bus thing and
getting on the road. You know, they they each have
their their positives. I mean, this is great. We're all
fathers and and husbands, and it's great for our family.
It's been great that we can go to Las Vegas
work a weekend and then we have like four days

(04:18):
to get in the studio and create, and so that's
been really convenient. It's also convenient for the guys that
live out here on the West Coast. We commute back
and forth to Vegas. So we're with our families Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
fly into Vegas Wednesday, do a show, Wednesday night off,
Thursday show, Friday, Saturday night, fly back to l A. Yeah.
It was great convenient for me too because I just

(04:39):
decided to move. Yeah, it's really really like minutes from
my house. Yeah, and we love touring around the world.
I mean that's one thing about with us that we
are so blessed that we have so many different different
outlets between making you know, a new album that's a
venture within itself, you know, creating the videos for them
doing getting geared up for touring. Like Kevin said, you know,

(05:01):
the blessing of being in one place at one time
is great. But we're you know, we're a little spoiled.
After a while, we kind of get the it's to
get out and get around the world. So that's why
the we're all excited about next year getting out and
seeing the rest of the world because you know, obviously
a lot of our fans have come to Vegas to
see us, but a lot of them haven't had a
chance to see us. So for us to be able
to go to their country and you know, experience their country,

(05:21):
which we've been blessed to have all those memories throughout
the years. Yeah, man, that could never get old. That's awesome.
And I saw the pics from your big cruise. Whose
idea was it to dress up as the Spice Girls?
How did that come together? You know? I think it
was party Like it's so we're like, okay, who are
we gonna? Are we gonna? Are we gonna be? You know?

(05:42):
Uh Diddy and and some guys from the Bad Boys
label from the nineties. Are we gonna be? Snoop Dogg
and Dre What are we gonna do? And we're like,
and one of our girls, one of our girls on
social media, was like, you guys should be the Spice
Girls Spice Boys, and we were like, We're like, let's
do it. Let's go for We had no idea it
would take off the way that it did and get

(06:02):
the reception that it did. Um And but it was
funny because after we put off, because we when we
get ready, we're in our own cabins and then like individually,
you will start kind of like rolling out of our
rooms and then we'll see each other and then and
it just were like cracking up at the next person
coming out, next the person coming out, but like the fans,
I was like, I was like six ft five for

(06:23):
the first time in my entire life wearing those giant
platform shoes, which was interesting and very very difficult to
walk in with all you ladies that rock heels or
rock those platform shoes. Hats off to you. You look
like Kareem I made the hottest girl nick niformed man.

(06:43):
I was like, yeah, I'm gonna be it. He was.
It was pretty hot baby spice. Yeah. She actually she
actually tweeted me I said, what I do? How do
I look? And then she goes, she goes, do you
look great? I want that dress? Though. The funny thing
was we did a performance in Due Buy about maybe
two or three weeks before that, and uh mel c

(07:05):
C was there actually performing right before us, and uh
I was like, okay, that was I think we probably
should say something just to get they don't think we
kind of like took this as a joke on them
or anything like that. But he was cracking up, laughing
and figuring out who was gonna be who and everything.
So I think we ever gonna expect us to dress
up more like them, but we won't be doing more
of them. We have to do it on the tour maybe,

(07:26):
and maybe on the tour will come out and do
a set Backstreet drag. And you mentioned earlier about twenty
five years together as a group. Man, that's unbelieving. I
remember when you all first came out. It's all damn,
I'm feeling old now. But what do you what do
you remember most about that first year together? Being hard?
I just remember like being we were doing a lot

(07:47):
of practicing a lot of rehearsing. You know. We we
were in Orlando, like we didn't even have a record deal,
and we were just we were in this warehouse that
was just hot, no air conditioning. No, it was a
garage stage first, that's and we were just constantly rehearsing,
constantly practicing, doing vocal lessons, a lot of work, dancing
and just grinding, you know. But it took like what

(08:08):
five years before, just trying to get noticed, um playing
you know, singing anywhere for anyone at any time, in
restaurants and pet stores and I mean just anywhere, just
trying to get noticed. And this I remember white, like
a fifteen passenger white van. That's like, I mean, that's

(08:31):
how we saw them, you know, because we would go
back and forth from Orlando to Tampa all the time.
We go down to the station down there, and and
we do the festivals in the in the parades and
just anything. We were singing for our dinner, for our lunch,
for our breakfast, you know, anywhere to get known and
uh and it paid off. I remember Saved by the
Bell was still on good memory, that's right. And guess

(08:55):
what it's still on baby. That's a whole another story
that hey, who was the most annoying back then? Nick?
Nick for sure and the most annoying. He is like

(09:15):
a chick twelve. That's great, that's great, hey man, Well
that's cool. It's great. It's great to hear you guys
are still killing it and doing your thing. Look forward
to checking out the show Backstreet Boys dot com for
tickets and all the tour dates. You can follow them
