Speaker 1 (00:00):
On with Mario Lopez. Sobro, Mario Lopez joined me right
now on Zoom from the hit Netflix series Outer Banks
actor Chase Stokes.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
How are you, man?

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Are you?

Speaker 3 (00:11):
How are we doing? Brother?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
I'm doing well.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
I don't know if you've happen to catch my daytime
show Access Daily.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
But you get a lot of love there.

Speaker 4 (00:19):
I give you a lot of love, man, I appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (00:21):
We were just talking about it with the executives on
both films. Man, we genuinely, genuinely appreciate the love that
you're giving us.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Man, you got it.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
You got it.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
I'm like, hey, I like that kid style.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
I'm just trying to make some movies.

Speaker 4 (00:34):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Good for you, well, congratulations.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
The four season of the show streaming right now on
Netflix for people who may not be familiar with it.

Speaker 4 (00:42):
What's the premise?

Speaker 5 (00:44):
So? Outer Banks is a is It follows a group
of kids kind of from the wrong side of the tracks,
and they stumble across a unearthed mystery that sends them
on this crazy kind of wild goose chase and it
leads now four seasons later, into them chasing some insane
relics and some insane sort of journeys that they've been on,

(01:05):
and it's kind of Montehuese versus the Capulids, Romeo and
Juliet a little young love mixed in there. So it's
kind of a coming of age meets Indiana Jones meets
the Goonies and just popped out and you've got Outer Banks.

Speaker 4 (01:16):
That is a hell of a log line right there.
I like that.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Yeah, I had some time to think about that one.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Covering all the genres had me at Goonies, That's right.
What is the what's your character up to?

Speaker 4 (01:27):
As the season wraps up?

Speaker 5 (01:29):
So in the fourth season of Outer Banks, you know,
John b is sort of faced with the reality that
his father has passed away in this crazy pursuit of treasure,
you know, and.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
He's faced a lot of adversity.

Speaker 5 (01:41):
He's he's you know, lost friends, he's lost his life,
he's lost all of a sense of normalcy. So this
this fourth season is really him coming to terms with
this new identity and being labeled to somebody that he
never knew that he was going to be labeled as.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
And what does that.

Speaker 5 (01:55):
Look like, you know, being young in love, newfound level
of six and how to navigate that with this group
of friends who's never seen anything like that, and.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
I believe you've gotten picked up for another season as well.

Speaker 5 (02:07):
Correct, Yeah, yep, so we're we're gonna go into our
fifth and final season the plane.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Thank you.

Speaker 5 (02:14):
Yeah, it's it's rare man, you know, to be able
to start a show and added on the note that
you want to versus you know, so many shows get
the acts sooner than you know they anticipate.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
So it's it's a true blessing.

Speaker 5 (02:25):
It's a blessing that the world is taking this show
and brought it into their homes and so many people
who have loved on it, and hopefully we get to
do justice to it in the ways that a lot
of people hope to see.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
That's a great run in do you shoot in North Carolina?

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Is it?

Speaker 3 (02:38):
We have to shoot in South Carolina?

Speaker 1 (02:39):
So done in tereston Cas Karl And And how do
you like it down there shooting all that time?

Speaker 3 (02:43):
I like it so much that I bought a house
down there, Is that right? Okay? Yeah? Yeah, so I
left LA.

Speaker 5 (02:48):
You know, we shoot for six seven months out of
the year. So yeah, my sister goes to college there.
My family's in Florida, so it's just it's a little
closer to home were you from. Originally, I was born
in Annapolis, Maryland. Then I went to middle school, elementary
school just outside of Atlanta, and then I.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Did high school and some of college down in Orlando, Florida.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
In Orlando.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Okay, wait, just because of Pops. His job is that
where you were moving around a ladder?

Speaker 5 (03:11):
Not really, yeah, like kind of sort of he sold data.
Not a job that would force you to move a lot,
but yeah, just kind of beep up and around.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
All right, so you're you're a Southern boy, all right.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
You also got a couple of movies coming out. First,
one is Marked Men. Rule in Shaw is What is
this about?

Speaker 5 (03:30):
So it's based on the New York Times best selling
book series by Jay Cronover And it's the first installment
and quite a few novels actually in the series. And
so follows this guy Rule, and he's sort of a dark,
twisted soul.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
His brother has tragically passed away three years.

Speaker 5 (03:46):
Prior, and his family and himself sort of hold the
burden of the death on Rule and his family friend Shaw,
played by the unbelievable Sidney Taylor. They've known each other
for a long time and always been in the same space,
but never really seen each other seeing each other. And
it's the story of two people who are on the

(04:06):
outside very different but internally have a lot of similarities
falling in love and falling in love in a very
unconventional way.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
So it's it's both of them trying to let their
walls down and let each other in, but not really
in a space to allowing it. So it's a very
very beautiful story.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
A romantic drama. Nice.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Uh. And on the other side, you got a military
actually coming out valiant one that looks like fun And
is it true you did you shoot it in North
Korea or just obviously you didn't shoot in North Korea?

Speaker 4 (04:35):
A pardon.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
In the DMZ I met South Korea?

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Did you get to shoot it in Korea at all?
Great tax breaks?

Speaker 4 (04:42):
Yeah, exactly, great.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Does a cameo.

Speaker 5 (04:46):
We're just actually shot it. We shot it in Vancouver.
So it's all the same.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
The same, the same as South Korea.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
North Korea, Vancouver, Right.

Speaker 5 (04:56):
It's actually on the same latitude as as the so
actually doubles. If you look at photos that are online,
it's it's very similar to the terrain as you would
see on the on the border there. But it's it's
a pretty fascinating film. It's it's loosely based on a
true event. And you know this soldier, he is kind

(05:18):
of like a desk jockey. He's never seen any combat
and he gets thrown into the field and the worst
case scenario happens in a helicopter crash. And he's the
highest ranking soldier in this platoon now and so it's
his now.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Now it's his responsibility.

Speaker 5 (05:33):
Yeah, a man up, man up, and get to the
xviille and and get those those people out. And he's
starts out as a dude that you would not want
to be responsible for your.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
Life, right right? Oh?

Speaker 2 (05:45):
Fun man, Nice diverse projects going on, very good.

Speaker 5 (05:49):
Yeah man, Yeah, it's it's it's a it's a fun
little slate of films coming out here.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
Good for you, buddy, staying busy and stuff.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
You know, I've had the opportunity to to interview your
lady Kelsey a few times.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
He's all been very sore and you guys been going
on for a couple of years. How'd y'all meet?

Speaker 5 (06:03):
So it was two years last week, January seventh, she
slid into my DMS man.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Okay, how new age?

Speaker 3 (06:12):
All right?

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Your DMS all right player.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (06:16):
Actually, ironically, I was filming Marchmen in Bulgaria and she
was out with the girls and just got a wild
hair shot a DM and that was it, man, that
was it. Came back from Bulgaria and we met up,
I think right after the New Year, and I was like, oh, yep,
there you go.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
Good for you that one right there. See.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Man, if I was if I was a young and single,
I'd be like fucking Ricky Anderson sliding all over the place.
I'd be sliding. Everybody's right there. Good for you, though, Chase.
I'm over here, married, three.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Kids, three dogs, Buddy, I got to live vicariously good.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
People like you. Man, you got to figure it out.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
That yeah, thank you brother, Thank you. Hey.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Is it true at one point you were considering possibly
a career in hockey.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
We big hockey guy.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
I grew up in hockey.

Speaker 5 (07:02):
And my stepdad he's from Saint Paul, like Minneapolis area,
So I grew up playing hockey every weekend. I was Michigan, Minnesota,
New York, New Hampshire.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
And you know, it's a it's a fairly physical sport.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (07:14):
So after probably too many concussions and a torn rotator cuff,
I was like, all right, I gotta I got to
figure out a more tangible career path. So I chose acting,
which is obviously super secure and so yeah, man, so
that that was kind of the dream for for the
longest time to Oh that's cool. You stop that one.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
You still get on the ice once in a while
and has around.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
It's funny to say that.

Speaker 5 (07:35):
I just so, I've had my all my equipment and
storage in it done in my mom's place and I
just got it all. She brought it up and just
got some new equipment. So I'm going to start getting
out on the ice here. That was one of my
like to do to do list for twenty twenty five.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
So nice.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
So I got all my teeth, So let's see how
how that works out.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
Be careful, be careful out there.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
Man.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Hey, congratulations on everything, and I appreciate you taking the
time to chat.

Speaker 4 (08:02):
And everyone listen.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Be sure to catch Chase in the new movies Marked
Men and Valiant One in theaters later this month and
over on Netflix of course on Outer Banks.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
Chase, good to meet you, brother, see you in person.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
Soon, pleasure.

Speaker 5 (08:15):
We'll see you soon, all right, brother, take care
