Speaker 1 (00:00):
Fun with Mario Lopez.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Hi, it's everyone. Mario Lopez joined me on Zoom for
the Lord of the Rings The Rings of Power. Actress
Cynthia Adi Robinson welcome to the show. Thank you so
much for having me, well, thank you for taking the time.
Congrats on all the success of the show. I was
a huge fan of Lord of the Rings. Were you
before you got this role? Absolutely?

Speaker 1 (00:23):
I mean, the films are obviously classics, and it's kind
of crazy to believe, what are we on the twentieth
or about twenty years or so since the films came out.
So it's quite an honor to be part of our
series version of Lord of the Rings Drinks of Power

(00:43):
and really for a new generation of viewers, you know,
hopefully inspire them and sort of bring that same you know,
epic scope and cinematic storytelling. So we're just very excited
that the show is receiving so much love. And yeah,
I'm of course thrilled that I somehow have found myself
in the middle of Middle Earth. Basically very good.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Now I've read that it is the most expensive show
ever created. The budget is just supposed to be bonkers.
Is the sets just absolutely incredible? Where's all the dough going.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
You know, It's funny because you know, we get asked
about as actors, but you know, we're not, at the
end of the day, ultimately responsible for the budget. So
I can't necessarily speak to that. But what I can
say is, if you're going to bring a story of
this magnitude and size to the screen, at this point,
we have the resources to create something for streaming that

(01:49):
you know, really is on a level of of you know,
some of the biggest films, and with eight episodes per season,
it's almost like we're making four films. And in order
to show Middle Earth and all its glory, you know,
you really do have to kind of have all of
these different landscapes, and so we have not only our

(02:09):
beautiful set design, but we also have our location shoots,
and so I think for the viewers, you know, getting
to see creatures and far flung lands and things like that,
I mean, you've got to have the resources to tell
the story, right, So I think that in a lot
of ways, you step on a set and you know
you're just in awe of everything, but ultimately it's still

(02:33):
about the story. It's still about you know, us as
a cast sort of breathing life into these characters and
telling the stories as you know best as we can.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
You mentioned there's only eight episodes per season. How long
are the episodes now?

Speaker 1 (02:53):
I think they all clock in around an hour, so,
you know, luckily with streaming, we don't sort of have
the know, the same restrictions of having to have like
a fixed uh you know.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
To the to the second give you like an hour.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Or two yeah, all around it out.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yeah, so it's an easy show to binge, is my point.
If you want to catch up, you can get eight episodes.
You can crack crank those out pretty quick, you know,
if you haven't, if you haven't had an opportunity to
see it yet. Where do you film?

Speaker 1 (03:21):
So season two we did most of our filming in
the United Kingdom, just outside of London. But for certain landscapes,
you know, in season two we're showing a variety of
landscapes that sometimes we need, you know, something that is
the desert to the middle of the desert or the coastline.
And for those filming locations, we got to go to

(03:44):
Tenerif and the Canary Island, so you know, I particularly
love filming there. We had an incredible team down there.
But yeah, I mean for those who are super familiar
with Tolkien, I mean his sort of vision and story
telling in a lot of ways, it's quint essentially English,
like we often associate Lord of the Rings of New Zealanders.

(04:07):
Of course, that's where Peter Jackson films and have stunning
locations in an absolutely beautiful country. But tolkien sort of
mythology is pulling from a lot of different cultures, but
in a lot of ways it is kind of a
very English sort of mythology. So it's it's pretty cool
to have done the second season and really taking advantage

(04:28):
of the landscape and talent there.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
That's awesome. Is there already a timeline for season three?

Speaker 1 (04:35):
I don't know. You'd have to ask the powers that be.
I mean, there's obviously a lot more story to tell,
and so we certainly are are hopeful that we get
to tell it, and I know that the showrunners certainly
have their broader maths planned out. But yeah, I mean,
obviously the first two seasons. We're still releasing season two,

(04:59):
so I believe this Thursday where we've got our sixth
episode out, so we're releasing weekly up until the last episode.
Eight so if you're still playing catch up, the first
five episodes are available, but yes, we are hopeful to
continue telling this story.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
That's awesome. And also in the works The Accountant too
with ben Athleck. What's your character doing in this one.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
She's doing a lot. I can't tell you everything he's doing,
but yeah, I mean the first Accountant, which still you know,
gets a lot of love. I get stuffed all the time.
And I'm very proud of been part of the first one.
That was eight years ago, believe it or not, and
it's still very much alive and well when I'm on
an airplane, I occasionally see it or on cable or Netflix.

(05:48):
And so when I got the call that there was
going to be a continuation of the storyline, I was
ecstatic and I'm just excited for people to see it.
I finally got the chance to even work with Ben
Affleck and John Burnhal in this film, because in the
first one, I never shared any screen time with them,
So you know, when I read the script, I was thrilled.

(06:10):
I think the audience that loved the first one is
going to love the second one even more. So look
out for that. It's going to be April twenty twenty five,
so a little bit of a wait, but very very
excited for the sequel.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Well, congratulations on everything you've got going on. Meanwhile, new
episodes of the Rings of Power debut Thursdays on Amazon. Cynthia,
thanks so much for your time.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Today, Thank you very much.
