Speaker 1 (00:00):
Fun with Mario a little bit. It's up with Mario
Lopez joining me down studio from Agents of Shield. Actor
Jeff Ward. What's going on, Jeff? Are you doing? Thanks
so much for having me, Thanks for taking the time
to come. Man. Now you've got one of the new
guys on set this season. So is it what you
thought when you arrived? Yeah, it is, Actually it's it's
I mean it was in terms of it was very

(00:22):
cool and very fun, and you know, everybody was doing
this crazy action stuff. And but it was better than
I thought it would because everybody was very, very nice
to me and kind of took me into the family
right away, and that's always nice with Yeah, it's good.
And then and then since then, they've all turned on
me and give me a relentless amount of grief. So
that's how I really know that I've made it into

(00:42):
their hearts, the true the true identity. How big of
a Marvel fan? Were you casual or were you into it?
Between casual and huge somewhere? Like you know, I was
never appreciated, yea necessarily obsessed. I mean like I was
Actually I wasn't as into the comics, but I was
obsessed with um the movies and the cartoons and the

(01:04):
Spider Man cartoon, the animated show, and loved that so much.
And obviously the Keaton Batman movies those were like my
first favorite movies. So and and speaking of movies, does
it address anything from Avengers Infinity War? Does it keep
it separate? It addresses it? So they all sort of
feed into all feed into each other. Wow, that's interesting. Well,

(01:24):
we're getting close to the season five finale. What can
you tease us with? I can tell you that, Um,
it's some of the most uh grandiose and epic stuff
that the show has ever done. Okay, it's, um the
first time I think in in a long time that
the show is really reaching the level of some of

(01:45):
the movies and some of the fight scenes and the
finale has the biggest fight scene I think I've ever
seen on the show. So it's it's really it's awesome.
And and um, do you know how the show will end?
I mean, do you have do they have a in
other words, do they have like sort of a goal
with a story they're telling and assuming there's a pickup,
they want to go this route? And are you privy
to that information? Are you just kind of wait to

(02:06):
get the scripts each week somewhat. Um, I'm more privy
now than I was when I first started. When I
first started, they were like, you know, thirty six hours
before I did it, they were like, here's what you're
doing in a day. But um, now I I know
a little bit. I know what you know. Should season
six get picked up, I have a vague idea where
it would go, and it's really exciting, so I hope

(02:26):
it does. Speaking of first started, um, where you from?
Originally Philly, originally born and raised, born in d C.
Moved to Philly when I was like five or six,
and then until I was eighteen when I moved to
New York. But yeah, Philly is I was just back
there there. I was obviously a devastating loss by the
Sixers the other night, but we're still riding high on

(02:47):
our super Bowl championship. Now. That was awesome, I know
was that that was I was like, it's Philly really
gonna get two championships in here, because it was none
of us thought, right. We got closer than we thought. Yeah,
but that football run was a heck of a running
Philly Philly ties with friends and good people over there,
How did you end up in New York? Did you
go to their school steady ye? Yeah, Yeah, I went

(03:09):
to n y U. So um. I had always wanted
to kind of go there, So I got lucky and
got in And yeah, tough school to get in. Did
you have it was in an audition process or what?
What was the deal? Yeah? I was an audition. You
had to go do to monologues? What monod you do?
I did a m a cut from a David Sedaris
play who I'm a big David Sadaris fan and uh

(03:31):
and I and a monologue from The Laramie Project, which
is a really amazing play that was, you know, written
about Matthew Shepard who you know. And but it was
amazing because the guy who wrote that play, I ended
up working with him at n y U, this guy
Moistas Kaufman, who was like a legendary theater director. So
it was not one monolgue with two monologue you had
to do too. Yeah, and they had to be contrasting.

(03:52):
They don't want to see none of that same stuff
right right right and with the same story exact vibe.
Oh wow, you have to go back to back right
back to back and this and the one of the
Larry Project one was sad. The Sadarius one was amazing
because it was from a play he wrote called the
Santa Land Diaries. That's all about how he got a
job for real at a Macy's playing an elf in

(04:14):
in the Santa Christmas things. You know, that's what's crazy.
That's he's a fair question. They're called little people. Now
excuse me, he is he sought off that was of
average height. But it was crazy because the stories in
this play are hilarious. They like they made them train

(04:36):
and they made them like get hyped up before he
went out. And it's a very very sad job. So
it really makes for a hilarious play. Yeah, if you
if you can shows, Yeah, I would imagine you'd want
to do something maybe a little darker than something with
some some humor. That's been Wow, that's cool man. And
what about the social life? Are you spoken for? You

(04:57):
got a why if you had a girl? Right now?
Right now? I'm single. Um, it's it's just been, which
has been honestly great because work has been so crazy
for the last year that it's it's it's it's hard
to it's hard to bounce both obviously, but the schedules
are rough. Yeah exactly, but I'm still stands yeah exactly,
but still holding no hope. Yeah yeah, yeah, one day

(05:19):
I'll be able to convinced someone to deal with my idiocy.
Did you did you go to the super Bowl or
ride in the streets and Philly? My plan was to
ride in the streets and I got taken to the
super Bowl. Nice. You got to check it out. That's
so I was there and it was truly, uh, top
three moments of my life. I'm a I'm a crazy fans.

(05:41):
My grandfather is a fan, Dad's fans. It's and we've
just lost my whole life. That's a special moment. It
was a very special moment. Yeah, I was cool. It
was good to see. I was rooting for those guys too.
Before I let you go and put you on the spot,
quick questions, quick answers, Go ahead, go to karaoke song
Uh talking heads um um once in a lifetime because

(06:03):
you you mostly just talk it beautiful house. Oh yeah,
that's a great song. You actually don't really need to
sing very much. I might steal that one. That's a
good one. I'm gonna totally rip off your a few
karaoke bars actually have, and that's a good one. I

(06:24):
don't think I've seen it. That's why it's not on
my race of singing. I'm gonna but that's a good
like get everybody that's actually is good. Yeah, man, I
learned something today. I love that last show you binged watched.
I think it was Narcos. Narcos or Young Pope, one
of those, both great, good taste, thank you. I love

(06:45):
both of both of them. No, like I know watches
Young Pope. They missed out, they missed out with great
show was amazing. Favorite last year. It was like House
of Cards, but totally agree. I love that. I told
you it's on the list. It's on the Jude lock.
It was amazing. I actually posted a picture I know,
um actually posted a picture of the Young Pope when

(07:06):
they had that Catholic theme for the met Gala. It's
really anarc is good too, by the way, because great
favorite superhero I would it's a tie between Batman and
Spider Man. I love both of them. Recently, I've really
gotten into a star lord because I didn't know who
I didn't know about him, and I will say I
was just at the Avengers thing, and I was watching

(07:28):
it and it's like Spider Man so cool, you know,
like Iron Man so cool. Like these guys are inherently cool.
I think I'm the most impressed with in terms of
the movies, with Hemsworth because Thor is an easy character
to go terribly wrong. He like legit and he looks
like a realized superhero. I know he does. And he's

(07:49):
also really funny, and I think that works very well
for Thor. So it's like I enjoyed I enjoyed Thor
in the movies a lot. Yeah. Likewise, um, last one
celebrity crush growing up, growing up, I mean my first
one was Jessica Rabbit and from that was when I
was like five or six. That was the first girl
crush I had. What about human human? I mean technically

(08:12):
she was human. Get um, probably I would go with
I mean, not to get all inside on you, but
Kelly unsaved by the Bill. Dang. It might have been
my first sort of the for that generation, sort of

(08:32):
like Melissa Milano was for like my generation. Yeah, totally,
but yeah, you've got good taste all the way around you.
I'm a fan. Now it's just a shield. Air's free
to you, Thank you. My friend airing Friday on ABC.
