Speaker 1 (00:00):
On with Mario.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Lopez Sober Mario Lopez, jord On Zoom, Emmy and Golden
Globe nominated actor my Man Rob Low.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Welcome back, Rob.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
Have you been I've been great. I know you've been great.
Speaker 4 (00:13):
I see you on your Instagram like training you're boxing?
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Have you ever thought about doing.
Speaker 4 (00:21):
Like Jake Paul celebrity like you want to throw down
with somebody?
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Would that? Would you ever do that?
Speaker 3 (00:27):
I've been approaching a few times.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
I've been doing it a long time, both grappling and
jiu jitsu and and boxing and stuff. Not with those guys,
just because you know, if it would if it would
be for a charitable type of event and the right opponent,
I would be down. So yes, is the answer.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
The irony is, how do you how do you avoid
getting califlower? Ere?
Speaker 1 (00:48):
You're a handsome sexy man.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Thank you. Coming from you, that means a lot.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
I wear headgear and even when I do the jiu
jitsu outside of the competitions, I'll have the headgear too,
So yeah, you know, I got my always into it,
and then when they got into it, I figured I
thought I was too old initially, but then I thought,
you know what, I want to learn just to be
able to bond with them and to kind of help them.
And then I fell into it and I fell in
love with it. So now it's great. Speaking of which,
last time I saw you in person, I was with
(01:14):
one of my sons and you were with your son,
and I think it's awesome.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
I just think it's so cool.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
It's the best feeling ever when you're working with family
and your son. I mean, he's such a great kid.
And Bright went to Stanford and a writer. And now
Unstable's been getting all kinds of great buzz on Netflix.
The wife is making me wait so we can watch
it together because we have her shows, my shows, and
we have our shows, and so now we got to
(01:41):
wait with the schedules.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Allied so we can to watch our shows.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
So we've nominated Unstable for that. How much of that
series is based on the real life relationship with your son,
Rob Well.
Speaker 4 (01:53):
The whole genesis of the series stems from his online
trolling of me on social media.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
I follow you, guys, and it's great. I love it.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
That was the basis of the show. Like the way
money just rips me.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
It's always made me laugh and made everybody laugh, and
it became a thing where people started following it, and
you know, it became kind of a viral moment, and that
was the I like, how do we is there a
show with this relationship? And that eventually led to the
show that we co created, Unstable, and it's it's I
(02:31):
got to tell you, it's so fun to have the
the the kind of reaction that it's had, and it's
always good to be in something that people are enjoying,
but when it's with your kid, it's extra special.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
It's the best ever.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
And I'm hearing nothing but great thing. So congratulations on that.
Can't wait to catch up. And it is true, no
matter what you do, you just can't be cool with
your kids.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
My kids just love to roast me for no reason.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
I mean it's such a modern thing when you watch
western and something from the old days, those kids like, yes, Pap.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
I like, exactly where do we lose that? Exactly it?
And you're incredibly busy.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Congrats on nine one one Loan Star was renewed for
a fifth season.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Man, was there any doubt? Did you know this was coming?
I mean, things are just fantastic.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Yeah, we we the show, you know, God Blesses is
such a juggernaut that that that we knew that we
were we would get a fifth season. I think it'll
probably just go as long as we want to do it.
And that's a rarity, you know, you know, that's a
real blessing in today's world where hits are harder and
harder to come by and everybody's so fragmented.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
There's so much to watch. Like you, you haven't even watched
my show yet, there's so much for you to watch.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
I oh, exactly, Well, that's just because of our schedules
right there. But believe yeah, the good ones stand out.
And so I told you it's the wife right there
on that one. You have the finale coming up on
the sixteenth. Anything you can deesus with.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
Yes, And you hear actors all the time teasing there.
This is an incredible whatever. But in all seriousness, I've
been lucky enough to make a lot of television, and
I've been a part of some very very very amazing television.
Our season finale is going to blow people's minds alone.
(04:27):
Star Ie, so proud of it it is. You're going
to need seventeen hanky baskets of hankys and kleenexes and
you're going to cry happy and then you're going to
cry ugly and you will never see it coming.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
WHOA, look at that. That had a lot of gravitas.
I like it.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
It'll super good.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
We'll be sure to check it out. Something I'd like
to check out because I read the book and and
as you know, I've told you I love it and
it's great.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Stories. I only tell my friend one.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Man show in Vegas next month. So how does that work, Rob?
Do you essentially sort of pick and choose certain stories
from the book and then it's.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
One long monologue or walk me through it?
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Well, I called it stories.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
I only tell my friends because I thought that it
would help frame it for the audience. They would get
a sense of what they're coming to see as suppose
to what Rob Low is doing.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
What what is he playing? Mark Twain? One man Go?
Is you're playing Jonathan any what you know? So it's
so it's June ninth and tenth by the way at
the Venetian And but what it is is, really, honestly, Mario,
it's stand up.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
Really, that's what it is. It's it's the leaping off point.
Are the stories that I've told in the books and
the stories have the same feel, but it's not regurgitated
greatest hits from the book. It's really if you like
the books, you're gonna love more stories like that.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
I'm telling stories.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Oh that's awesome, that's and I'm sure when you were
when you're telling a particular story, something might pop in
your head that maybe didn't at the last performance, and
you go on a tangent and it goes on the
Oh that's great, that's great, good.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
And you know, I take questions and inevitably somebody will
ask a question and I'll think, oh my god, that's right. Actually,
oh my god, and then I'll that'll set me off
on a whole new direction of something that I haven't thought.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
Of in years.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
Oh so there's a Q and a portion, which is.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
By the way, my one of my favorite.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Oh that's fun, particularly in.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Vegas because people are lit.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
They are yeah yeah, yeah, they do not care, so
you will get And by the way, the more of
a free fire zone when it is, the better I
like it.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Oh good, I'm a hit of I'm ahead of Whites.
I'm ahead of Richard Whites.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Yeah yeah, okay, oh cool.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
You also got a podcast literally for those who may
not be familiar. What do you talk about on there?
And who have you been talking to recently?
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Oh my gosh, So what it is, Mario? And I
know you know this because you do it for a living,
but you have you know, after so many years of
being in this business, I have relationships so many people,
and I know them in a way that other people don't.
I mean a great example is, you know, I've known
(07:30):
Gwyneth Paltrow since she was sixteen years old. She's the
godfather to my son John Owen. I'm going to interview
Gwyneth in a way that nobody else is. Same with
Chris Pratt, for example. You know, we came up with
Parks and rec and now he's the biggest movie star
in the world.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Oprah, my neighbor.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
Like, I'm able to talk to these people in a
way that no one else is. I know things about them, yeah,
and no who else does, And I bring it so
I I think the bottom line is I'm bringing out
a side of people that I don't think people have
seen before.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
Who you may think you know.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
My Michael Douglas interview I did recently is one of
my favorite interviews ever about Hollywood, about and Michael's a
legendary Mount Rushmore producer, iconic Oscar winner, and we talked
about stuff, man, that is going to blow your mind.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
So I talk to people like that. I talked to
people in music.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
I talk to people in sports, Charles Barkley, I mean,
you name it. I've talked to them. And that's what
we're doing. And it's super fun. It's called literally you
can get it anywhere that you get your podcasts, and
we're in our third season.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
That's awesome and completely different skill set from acting, because
obviously a good actor, but being a host and having
interview skills and being will listen to a lot of
people can't do that, So credit to you and kudos.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
It's fun. It's fun.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
It's a different set of created muscles in there.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
Did you learn that from your neighbor Oprah?
Speaker 3 (09:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (09:05):
I having Oprah on was great because you realize why
she's Oprah Winfrey, like, oh, that's why you're Oprah, right,
And and but I will say that Oprah was one
of the people who urged me and supported me and
said you should, you should, you should interview people.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
You're good at it.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
That's awesome. That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
I've actually had the pleasure to have visited that house
in Santa Barbara. I don't know if you still live
there when Marcus Allen went. At one point, I think,
are you still in that house?
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Robert?
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Did you move that house? We just sold and then
it just sold again to Adam Levine. Adam Levine.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
We sold that house to Adam.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Yes, Adam's living in the house now, and Cheryl and I,
my wife and I are building a new one in
the same spirit.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
That's kind of you know. We we we really love
building homes. We we just love it.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
We build them for ourselves and we live in them,
and then eventually somebody knocks on the door and says
we'd like to buy it, and we say, well, it's
not for sale, when they go, well, so that's just
a thing that happens. But I'm not that much generous
of home flippers, but I do enjoy building really special homes.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
Did you say you went to Rob's house when he
wasn't there?
Speaker 3 (10:19):
No, No, he was there, he was there.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
Why would I go to Allen? I went to Marcus
Allen and you mentioned something about Rob's house.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
I was like, okay, I was like, oh, Rob, okay, because.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
He was like it was a neighbor down the street
or something.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
Right, we shouldn't be SMA hanging out in the pool.
I'm like, here we are.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
That was a beautiful home. Adam's lucky, Levine's scored right there.
Uh you sent us over Rob some of these Atkins snacks.
Which ones do you recommend before we dive in?
Speaker 1 (10:47):
Well? Did they?
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Did they give you the sort of the sweets, the
candy ones?
Speaker 3 (10:52):
Yeah? I think so. We haven't opened on me yet.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
Yeah, yeah, okay, well the plethrowas.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Oh I love anything peanut butter.
Speaker 4 (10:59):
I love that peanut butter cups are so sick because
you you have it and you go, this has to
be full of sugar.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
It's so good.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
I love peanut butter cups, and I love peanut butter cups.
And look, I've got a really gnarly sweet tooth. I
really really really do. And what I love about a
particular about the peanut butter cups. There's also chocolate covered
raisins that are insane.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Is it feels real?
Speaker 4 (11:25):
I mean it feels like you're having the actual raisinets
or reeses, but it's at Comes, So it's all of
the good that you want from Atkins, and it's a
great way to cheat without cheating that.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
You know, people feel that they have to eliminate certain foods,
and that's a certain and that's a great way to
not eliminate great things that are tasty, especially if you
have a sweet tooth.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
So thank you, Chris. At night, I'm good during the daytime.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
You know, I've living I've been living Atkins for way
before I started working with them, way before.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
And that's what most healthy people do. I know you
do too. You watch the carbs, and that's what we do.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
That's how everybody should be eating in the Atcan style.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
But sun goes down.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
I'm in the same way. I don't know why. And
all of a sudden, the sweet too, I'm like craving.
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
During the day, I'm fine, but at night I want
to just I don't know what it is.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
It's so funny.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
Do you think that we've just depleted?
Speaker 4 (12:22):
In all seriousness asking you, do you think that we've
just depleted ourselves and our body's going.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Feed me what you've been depleting.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
I think there's a certain element of that.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
I think there's a certain element of that, and then
at some point when it's usually for me, right after
dinner or read before I'm going to go to bed,
then I have I'll have a little dark chocolate. I'm
gonna have to get into these peanut butter cuffs. Now
you think you can get away with it under the
cover of darkness, Yes, that's what it.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
Is, and now I can do it guild free.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
So thank you, Rob. We'll be sure to check it out.
Congratulations on everything, my friend. Great to see. Hopefully get
to see you in person soon. Meanwhile, check out Unstable
on Netflix and nine one lone star over on Fox.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
Thanks so much for hanging out man.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
Thanks brother, keep getting yourself shredded. I want to come
spar with you on these days.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Anytime hit me up, I'm gonna and I'm gonna hit
up whit. It's too about Vegas.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
I'm serious.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Yeah, come to Vegas. Come to how about what we do?
A fight in Vegas?
Speaker 3 (13:19):
There we go. I like the way you're thinking pay
per view, my brother. Thanks for having me. Take care

Speaker 1 (13:28):
