Speaker 1 (00:00):
I had on with Mario Lopez, so bron Mario Lopez
joining me now on Zoom. Comic and actor My Massa
Bastard Man of Scalco.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Welcome back, Buddy Hivin.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
I've been good man. I've been bouncing around Chicago, New York.

Speaker 4 (00:13):
Now I'm back in Los Angeles on this press tour
for this for this movie.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
I'm really excited about the movie. We've discussed it. I
loved it, related to it on so many levels before
we get into the movie.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Though.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Last I saw you, we were hanging out in Chicago,
was a beautiful day. You your father, your father, Salvo
and mister de Niro, and I'm so pissed to myself
got a baby at almost eighty and I didn't get
to ask him about did you know?

Speaker 2 (00:40):
I was like Sebastian to give me a heads up?
Did you know?

Speaker 3 (00:43):
You know? He threw it out in an interview.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Casually on Zoom.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Yeah, it was. It was.

Speaker 4 (00:49):
I don't know I heard it in one of the interviews,
but I was like, oh, did I hear that?

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Right theater?

Speaker 4 (00:54):
And then I'm thinking to myself, I thought I was
old having a three year old, right?

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Me?

Speaker 2 (00:59):
And you both exactly, same age with a three year old, exactly.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
But this guy's eighty. He's got a new board, so
God bless him.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
I didn't know anything until the rest of the world knews,
So yeah, it's crazy.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
It's the craziest thing. And the irony too. He named
his uh it was a little girl. He named her Ga.
That's my daughter's name. I'm so mad.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
And it was so casual because I saw that interview
and she just said your six kids, and he's like, oh,
actually seven.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
If I would have just mentioned the number, I just
mentioned the number. He did he name the kid after
your interview? Did he still the name? Maybe?

Speaker 1 (01:31):
I thought he was a fan, so maybe he did
some research and then just went with g that's the.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Best, man.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
It's the best thing ever right there. And your father.
I loved it. One of my favorite moments. When I
asked him was Mount Rushmore films. He said, running Bull.
I said that was the Native American version. I love that.
I love your old man. He was great. I'm sure
there were many moments like that in this tour.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
I mean, when you start doing press with your dad,
you know my dad sou's the camera comes on.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
He's a different guy at the salon where he works.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
He's mister personality, you know, speaking in complete sentences, and
here cameras go on and it's it's running bold I go.
One interviewer said, you know, how is it being Sebastian's
muse and right away I knew he didn't know that.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Work right right, So there was a lot of moments
like that. But he was a good sport. I mean,
for him to be doing.

Speaker 5 (02:26):
That at his age and kind of going around from
press to press spot was It's something I will always
remember for the rest of my life. I just thank
god my father's here to really enjoy this with me
and see all the hoopla around the movie about him.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
So it's been special.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
It's the best.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
I can't imagine it gets any better. And I was
teasing you before when we spoke your mother, who's a sweetheart.
I don't want to give anything away in the movie,
but how is she feeling now? Did you get her
something nice for Mother's Day?

Speaker 3 (02:58):
I give my mom.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
That's the best.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
She seems to like an envelope.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
That's the move though, Sebastian real talk now with family,
That's what I do, Mom and Dad. Envelopes my nephews,
all my nieces and nephews little envelopes. You don't have
to think when I see him, I give them a
little envelope.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
I feel like, uh, you have to worry if they're
gonna like it or not. No, no, no, that's going to
That's exactly it. Everyone likes an envelope, right.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Yep, everybody likes an envelope. But what I found more
people like is not even the envelope, just almost like
a side talk with hand in hand, you know what.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
I'm saying, Like a valet. You hit them like a
valet like this. Oh that's funny.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
That's funny.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
I love that, man, I love it. Your the movie. Okay,
let's talk about the movie for a second. I think
at this time, and I don't know if I told
you this too.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
It's a movie like this is really needed with all
the stuff that's going on. It's a feel good movie.
It's genuinely funny.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
You can watch it with your kids.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
I suggest you watch it with your dad, if you're
lucky enough to still have your dad. There Sebastian and
I happened to be the same age. We're both child
of immigrants, and there was so many things that like,
oh my god, that's my own man, and he just
you know, one of the things you appreciate about or
I do with my father, I'm sure you do with
yours is there's no filter. And I think a lot
of people like my dad because there's no bullshit with him.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
What you see is what you get. He tells it
like it is.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
He's not gonna fake it for anyone, and I think
people just find that so refreshing because there's so much
bs out there.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
Right well, especially in Hollywood.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
You know, my father's always telling me what's what I'm
doing wrong? Or you know, I saw your I saw
this movie. There's a movie I did with an accent,
right and he called me up. He goes, what's the accent?

Speaker 3 (04:42):
What is that? Go golling on. It's like a mix
between Italian and German.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
He goes, do me a favorite pick one next time,
because I don't know what it is.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
You know, Like.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
In a world that we live in, in the entertainment business,
where everybody's kind of kissing your ass, it's nice to
have a father who doesn't allow you to get a big.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
Head at all.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
And I think what you're referring to in the movie,
is you know a guy who kind of just no filter,
speaks from a loving place.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
From an honest place.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Exactly, It's exactly. It's so many parallels. Fantastic movie. Be
sure to check it out. Obviously, de Niro one of
the greatest actors a lot. But were you surprised how
funny he is because he's very funny in the movie.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
You know de Niro, I think has he's funny without
even speaking. There's moments in this movie where the camera
just pans to him and there's an expression on his
face and you could really tell what he's thinking and
he's not saying anything, and it's funny. So to be
working with that guy, I mean, you know, he's got
some really great comedic movies and you know, meet the

(05:47):
parents and analyze this and that and what have you.
So I knew he was funny, but to see it
on film and I'm, you know, playing opposite of him
was and I learned a lot. I mean, Jesus is
this guy has regarded one of the most you know,
renowned actors of all time. And here I am in

(06:07):
a movie and he's playing my father. Was It was
just it was surreal at times, I was.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Like a fan.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
He's crying in the scene with me, and I'm looking
at him going, he's crying.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
You know, I felt like I was watching it at
home right right now.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
You're going to tell to tell you nailed it. Man,
It's great. I suggest people check it out. You're really
gonna enjoy it. Speaking of comedy in the works, how
to be a Bookie from Chuck Lorie best in the
business right there. This should be a big deal, man,
What can you tell us about it?

Speaker 4 (06:39):
Basically, it's a TV show for HBO Max that's going
to chronicle a bookie myself, Dannie Colavito, who is trying
to navigate the waters of the gambling industry now that
gambling has been legalized, so the bookie has been his job.
Responsibilities have kind of shifted a little bit, and it's
it's a comedy. It's Omar Dorsey plays my my right hand.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
He's like the enforcer.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
But it's it's I'm not a bookie that's going around,
you know, breaking legs. I got a heart and the heart,
but it was it was a joy to work with
with Chuck. I mean, the guy has a thousand episodes
of TV under his belt and really knows what he
wants and was an amazing, amazing partner in this whole project.

(07:28):
So yeah, eight episodes. Don't know when it's coming out yet,
but yeah, bro de Niro, Laurie Lopez, I work with
the best.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
That's it. That's it right there, that's Mount Rushmore. Does
that is that single camera or single single because Chuck
usually does the the four.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
Cameras he nort really does, you know, three camera, studio
audience and for a comedian, I've done one pilot that
was studio audience, which was great because you get the
immediate feedback, right, But with this, you know, you don't
have an audience the movie. But with Chuck Lorie you
could hear him laughing in the background, which is always validation. Right, Oh, okay,

(08:08):
this is if he's laughing, this is funny. So that
only he was my only audience member. But he's very
vocal in his appreciation of comedy.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Hey, that's that's the one you need right there, the
most important one. Super Mario Brothers crossed a billion at
the box office. Man, congratulations, Any chance your character Spike
keep popping up again?

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Maybe we do a space.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
I'm waiting for the phone call right seel and maybe
a spin off. I mean, come on, man, even though
I was in the movie for a blink of an eye,
I think Spike's got some more storyline in them.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Right, exactly exactly. I don't know if you know this,
but we're giving away. I've been pumping in a lot,
giving a trip away to Vegas to see you perform.
You just have to you just have to go to
Olin May dot com to enter. I've gotten to see
you live. It was fantastic, was your last special.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
I believe do the.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Shows there have a different energy than other cities. It's
a bat I gotta imagine the liquors flowing a little
more freely. And you did a funny bit about how
Vegas you can have a guy in a tuxedo and
then a guy with.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Like flip fluffs and shorts right next to each other
in tuxedo with flip fluffs exactly, something along those lines.

Speaker 4 (09:13):
Yeah, the Vegas vibe is always one of kind of
energy party atmosphere. Generally on the later shows you get
a lot of that. But yeah, I mean it's a
I like it because it's people from all over the
world coming together in one setting to watch comedy, Whereas
let's say, if you go into New York City, everybody
kind of has that New York mentality. This is it

(09:34):
could be a guy from Australia, a guy from Montana,
and a guy from Wisconsin, and everybody's kind of laughing
it together, but with different perspectives. So yeah, it's and
plus you know, hanging. I mean, you know, you know,
you go to Vegas a lot to watch fights and
what have you. It's just a different energy once you
get there. But you could only take it for like
forty eight hours.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
Yeah, exactly right, then you got it and you're extra tired.
I just went from Vegas to New York and the
the flight situation was crazy.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
I feel like I was on a bender for seven days.
I'm barely trying. You went to church while you were
in Vegas. I had to go to church because council guilt.
What about the kids? How are they doing? How do
they know?

Speaker 3 (10:12):
Yeah, so the kids listen, We're having a party in
three weeks.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Oh good, another one good? The last one I couldn't. Ironically,
I was stuck in Vegas. Remember I told you I
was stuck in Vegas and the flight my mother in
law was very upset.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
But I don't another one.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
I don't have any money in my life.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
Like you that is gets upset when they miss a
kitty party.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
My surrounding people around, I mean, I like this year,
my surrounding people were very upset. I know. There is
one when you have kids, small kids, there's a party,
Like every week someone's having a party.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
It becomes like a side job. Do you get upset
when you miss all of them or just Sebastians. I
like Sebastians.

Speaker 1 (10:50):
Those are fun, and you know what I like about
I respect your invites too. He puts the time, like
from three to six or twelve to three. There is
an end time. I like that get out by, you know,
so like a quarter two, you gotta start wrapping it up.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
I gotta start doing that.

Speaker 4 (11:04):
You're getting it all wrong, my friend. I put the
stark time in the end time. So if the end
time's at three, I don't want you coming at two
forty party.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
You've missed it all right, But you're here at twelve.
You want to stay till six? Be my guest. You know,
we'll open.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
Up the bar.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Oh okay, I took it like, hey, honey, we gotta.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
Start wrapping it up.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Your kid's birthday party, same thing, like I never put
that to.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
Bashing, and then my kids party turned into you're gonna
you're gonna come. I'm gonna have one in Septeberpefully, if
you're around anyway there, you know there's a lot of
liquor fold At some point, I always have to turn
off to the music and say, hey, everybody, grab your kids,
grab your that's it you got, because it gets too crazy.
Everybody's getting too hammer, the bars flowing and everything.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
I'm gonna start doing the end time.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
And you put a good You put on a hell
of a party, so I look forward to the next one. Meanwhile,
I want everyone to check out about my father gratefully.
It is hitting theaters on May twenty sixth. Sebastian, thanks
so much for hanging out, brother.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
Thanks for having me, and we'll see you in three
weeks at the party.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
We'll see him on man, We'll see it. Thanks.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
