Speaker 1 (00:00):
Real fun with Mario Lipez so Bro Mario Lopez joining
me now on Zoom. The winner of season eleven of
the mass singer The Goldfish, My girl, Vanessa Hudgens. How
are you, Vanessa?
Speaker 2 (00:13):
I'm great, I'm a winner.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
You are waiting and I want to get to all that.
But first off, I've been so happy for you. Congratulations
on your pregnancy. I gave you so much love on
my show Access Hollywood, and I was like, Oh, she's
gonna be the best mom. That's awesome. Now did you
choose to find out if it's the gender? D it's
a boy or girl?
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Oh? Yeah, I'm not like a person who would like
wait forsh things in general. I'm a very like anxious,
but I'm definitely a controller, so I like knowing things.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Yeah, you know, I waited for all my kids to
find that. Wow, a surprise to you.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
I mean, to each their own.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
But yeah, it took some convincing, but oh it's fun.
It's fun. Do you have like the names picked out?
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Yet?
Speaker 1 (00:59):
You don't need me? I'm just saying, is everything all?
I gotta assume? No, you don't really? Do you have contenders?
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Yeah? I have contenders and stuff, but like, I don't know.
I just feel like it's so funny that people choose
to pick a child's name before they meet them. I'm like,
how do you know that? Like that's their name just
because you like it? Like what about their essence?
Speaker 1 (01:26):
We are so opposite because not only did I find
out or did not find out the gender of all
my kids, I also had all their names picked out
before they were even born. I said, I have boys,
this if I have girls. Well, I knew I wanted
Catholic Italian sounding names because my wife's Italian and the
Lopez covers the Latin part, so I figured to have that.
But but that's how far along are you? By the way,
(01:50):
I'm far? Are you far?
Speaker 2 (01:53):
So?
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Like any day?
Speaker 2 (01:55):
No, I'm not that.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Okay, good when you look awesome, I'm so happy. Thank
you so much. That's great. And now let's talk about
the show. Were you a fan of the show prior
it was?
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yeah, Like, it's definitely like something that has been just
like a wild concept to me that I never really
expected to do. And when the opportunity came up, it
just kind of came up the right moment at the
right time, And yeah, I said I'm sure, why not
and ended up being a really fulfilling thing for me.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
That's awesome. Yeah, well obviously worked out really well too.
I feel like I would have guessed you because I
know your voice really well. I feel like I would.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yeah, I mean that's the thing. I also didn't really
try to hide it, like, yeah, you know, there's an
integrity that you have in performance, and I wasn't going
to try to like make myself sound different. You know,
you can't see me. That's enough.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Exactly how cumbersome was that costume? And was it difficult?
Speaker 2 (02:52):
It wasn't that bad. I mean, there are definitely a
lot of layers. You're completely covered head to toe. It
always cracked me up though, because you know, on the
outside I'll put together the goldfish is extraordinarily glamorous and
just beautiful, and right underneath that giant mask is my
little face just being squished in by like a head suck.
(03:16):
I was like, it's like my face, but it was.
It was funny. I mean, it presented its own challenges,
and I'm always up for a good new challenge.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Yeah. And one of the songs he sang was baby
come Back from Player. I love that song. You you
a fan of yacht rock? You just like you like
old school jams?
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Well, I mean it I covered Baby Come Back. That
was my first single when I was I think sixteen
or seventeen. Yes, So I was like, if the fans
don't get it after this, yeah, and then they really don't.
I'm really not a fan at all because I was
like singing some of the same licks and ad libs,
(03:56):
and it was just like, it's funny for me. I
was like it just a little bit there.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Were you pretty good at keeping a secret? Were any
of your friends or family able to guess?
Speaker 2 (04:06):
I mean, like I don't know. If I wasn't supposed
to tell my fing, I not, I.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Could tell them, hey, exactly exactly.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yeah, But like you know, it's always fun, Like they're
they're my biggest fans and supporters, so it was it
was nice to have them like sneak them in, bring
them in, and have them there a little bit along
the way.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Yeah, of course coming soon Bad Boys Ride or Die? Uh?
How was it working with Will and Martin? Again?
Speaker 2 (04:38):
It's great. It's always great. They're just such professionals and
it's always fun to be a part of that series.
You know, like they have a very specific energy that
is so much fun end uplifting to be around. And
it's just the funny and we get to do a
lot of action and be badasses. So it's kind of
(04:59):
like when win.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Yeah. Absolutely, And I saw an ig you went to
see Fish at the Sphere. I wouldn't have guessed her
into that band. They have a very loyal following up,
and you know, I was like, Okay, my.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Husband is a very big Fish fan, a baseball player,
but he's also a drummer and he loves the jam bands,
and it was a giant fan of Fish and we've
seen them once before, but I was like, at the Sphere,
I feel like we have to be there. And it
was by far one of the coolest concerts I've ever
(05:33):
been to.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Yeah, and that's such an awesome venue too.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Gosh, it was so insane. It's just like the most
transported concert experience.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Yeah, hey, that's cool. He's a drummer. I played the
drums growing up too. And I saw you. I think
the last time I might have been at a Dodgers game, yes,
a while back. There are you? Are you baseballed out
or you a fan? Prior?
Speaker 2 (05:56):
I wasn't necessarily a fan. Prior I my dad I
used to bring me to baseball games. But now I
got very invested and I actually understand the game now,
I think, which changes things. Before I was just kind
of like, I have no clue what's going on?
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Good, No, I got it right on. Well, it's always
so good to see you.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
When it's so good to see you too.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
I hope to get to see you in person again soon.
Congratulations on everything, and listen you can see the Goldfish
