Speaker 1 (00:02):
I'm a homegirl that knows a little bit about everything
and everybody.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
You know, if you don't lie about that.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
Right, Hey, y'all, what's up.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
It's Laura l Rosa and this is the latest with
Laura l. Rosa.

Speaker 4 (00:14):
This is your DELI dig.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
On all things pop culture, entertainment, news, and all of
the conversations that shake the room. Now it is time
for one of those conversations. Because I was well, I
had the privilege of joining Two Chains in conversation live
in conversation during this year's Culture Con that took place
here in New York City. And Culture Con is all

(00:36):
about the creatives, but I think it's a great place
for you to understand and learn about business and storytelling
and you know how to bridge the gap between the
two to make a successful career from the successful person themselves.
So that's what I talked to two Chains about. He
also has a new book, and he also has a
new book, The Voice in My Head is God, that

(00:56):
drops early March, and he has a film out. It's
called Red Clay. It's not out yet yet. It's actually
being seen at film festivals all over right now, but
it's very personal. He's opening up about his mother's addiction.
For the first time, he's opening up about, you know,
the internal conversations he has with himself, and we get

(01:17):
into why right now and all the things. Take a
listen to to chains An I at culture con.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
How are you you wanna do it?

Speaker 5 (01:27):
Y'all doing?

Speaker 3 (01:27):
How you doing it? We are doing amazing?

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Man.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
I am really excited for this conversation. I want to
sorrow because you're talking about a lot of activities.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
If you want out here, well, we got a new
one to add. Author. You have your book coming. The
voice is in my I'm sorry. The voice in my
head is God. That is an up a title.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Can you talk me a little bit about the title
of choosing the title, the naming of the book.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Well, when I chose the title of my book, I
was working on a book and I was doing my mask.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Not to be compared to either out the artists.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
A lot of hardists like to do autobiographies that are
sometimes trauma for has deal with who who struggled the most?
And you know we've all all started to tell we
all couple, you know, different trin challenges and backgrounds. But
when I was working on this book, I had stories
and I had some ideas, and I've always had a

(02:26):
voice in my head.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
My Mama used to tell me that asked me who
the hell I'm talking to.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
And when I was doing research for the book, I
was looking at some of the male in my partlish
to write before prison. And then every Invalope people would
say God is love, God is love, God is love.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
I'd rather be even just ignored it for a long time.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
And then one day I took the ears out and
I'm put an equal sign, and I said, God equals love,
because if.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
It ain't no love, it ain't no God. So when
I started order an idea from a book.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Behind that and start, you know, really thinking that the
reason I'm right here now, I'm move on my tripper
and with the success that I think like I have
is because I quiet down the outside laws and now
listen to the voice of my head.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
And I fel like, if God is.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Supposed to be in you, that might be, that might
be where the voice is.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
That's how I came up with the book.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
Well, first of all, shout out to you, because I
think when you have masked so much success like you had,
there are a lot of times where you know people
don't give it on the gut. And I think to
see and hear you do that, it speaks volunce for
you know where you're on your venture.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Can you talk to me a.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
Bit about what happens when the voice in your head?

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Is it God? Can you hear other voices the noise?
What's that?

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (03:45):
So I have a chap boot comber bucket voice. I
think we already have a bucket voice. We notice something
right and you just do it, but we'll say fuck it.
But I guess the way I could tell you that
it's not God? I know you did you know what
I'm saying. That's kind of how I shine hope again.
It's that I have for my book. It's not a
religious facebook.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
It's not like I have chapters from the Bible or
angu thinks like that. I think it just deals with
the CERTFC and w wisdom that you get.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
I feel like being with charlottle Bit later their females, So.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
I honestually think, like my mom a pap of femails
in my panel, they already had the super powl. This
is this thing about being had too hichi and having
that tradition for me and for a lot of men.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
I think we give that linker, So what I recognize that?
I mean, I just listen to this voice doing everything.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
I look the way I go home listening to this voice,
went on, put on, listening to this voice, just everything
that you can see.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
By this voice in my head.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
Well, you have so right down, you had you know
your book coming, and then you had your Red clayth
in them, which is also very vulnerable. Red Chris Bill's
love why right now gets so personal, like you know,
divulge so much, like what was the conversation that you're
having with that voice that need teaching?

Speaker 1 (04:59):
You's want to went up about.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
So many things in store.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Well, a lot of the things I think that I
went through when I was when I was younger, I'm
embarrassed to talk about.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
I'm embarrassed to h to revisit. And I look at
a lot of the art that I'm putting out.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Now and there's a calm appeal, you know with Red
Clay or Suret Fann Pills.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
But the relationship I have my mom bowing up.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Then I that when I it's in a festival runner
right now, So that's why people can't see it. But
when I did the festival in Atlanta, and I had
like immediate real stage and Q and as when I
did my Q and A, I have I noticed that
I have my head now because I had friends in
the crowd, and I had relatives in the proud.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
And I was truly, truly, truly advassed.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
And then when I did another, say one in Denver,
another festival, I was able to keep my head on,
my chin off because of them.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
That didn't know me, and I didn't care what their
opinion was.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
So a lot of stuff that you're sitting in me
with as my short feel or my book, he just
feeling some layers back and just trying to yield.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
You know, on my owner. I understand that that you know,
we all that was good work. You.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
You've always been a person that people point to us
say they go, you are me?

Speaker 3 (06:15):
Are you play for that?

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (06:16):
You God for that?

Speaker 3 (06:17):
For short?

Speaker 2 (06:18):
Right? Sure?

Speaker 4 (06:19):
You always in the first time you put poets who
you say, you know what you see, it what you get.
You're very honest, You're very authentic. You're very choosy yourself.
But you said you had your heads down doing that screening,
and I can you know imagine that Boldia thinks your
first time is tough, especially where you are in your
right but personally behind the current.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
What was it like having a conversation.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
With your bomb after she saw the film and just
even in writing your book, people you talk about in
the book and experiences having those conversationss what was that
like for you?

Speaker 3 (06:46):
It wasn't Trauma's house reach out sensing it was very hard.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
My mom came to the set the whole week of
shots short failed, but she never came inside, so she
knew I was shooting a little bit, but she didn't
or you know what it was.

Speaker 6 (06:59):
She just is a support.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
She's gonna sppro. But I'm a whole child, you know,
just with a TV boy name, can't they couldn't be
like you know what I'm saying, be.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
In a bun of my mom chip. So he's to
be like it's just a TV day. That's how TD boy.
They come to me right with a TV su no crazy,
no strip blow and read it like you know, you
just keep visit. So she was there but to support.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
But then I got a copy of the short Field
and she came over to my house and you know,
you just ring get follow to the TV and for
probably about I would say about five or six weeks.
I never mentioned that I had the copy back because
I didn't know how she should react to it.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
And a Nutshelle in the nutshell botes the gethery. That's
shiit nunt shale. I'm all right in a nutshell.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
The end of that ship I had.

Speaker 6 (08:02):
I don't know if I had to, and I don't
want to be judged or whatever, but it was a
situation where I had to.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
Be the one to sell my old mom drugs. And
that's what this rare play things.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
If iver you know what I'm saying, And it's something
that I don't rap about talking about it.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
I don't talk about it. I'm trying to be harder
than the next person. I don't talk about me. There's
nothing like that. So when I ate this, feel put
this film together, our heads out of this all film
power for me having to do this with so much
that I love so much to put them a you know.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
What I mean.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
It was just a struggle on I shoulder tour. She's
not there anymore, you know what I'm saying. This is
his old story, so but she at to see that
I'm a gonna seventy five, but she able to see
that right now. It's like I describe what's being on
the other.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Side of the fountain.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
It's like this tall mountain. We have me flying this
a line, but now on be a mom We like
on go this side or wait down on every day,
you know. So the field, much like the book, is
very very personal.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
It's sounding like you know, I know I have assistant human.
I smiled a lot, but a lot of that was
defense making.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
Is is that got me through high school?

Speaker 2 (09:10):
She's like, I would smile the thing that was like
my biggest smile that I behind you, But most of
it is something any of that that's how Manova through
like high school.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
And it's somewhat easing. Cous just ready, can y'all get
it sent right? And it's like, okay, getting loud. You know,
I'm happy your room.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
It's a journey.

Speaker 4 (09:29):
I'm up here, but I.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Think it's get out there. But I mean, I think
the point that you're arrived at that and you tell
me if you know I'm wrong, But I buy my
whole spiritual journey.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
I got to fuck where I was okay con telling
the stuff I was going through, so I felt like,
but God got to do this, so can be and
I'm so now I'm here to talk about it if
I can't.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
Kind of almost like it's your testiment. So that's what
we're saying.

Speaker 4 (09:52):
You're kind of like a testimony to beat you there
like at this perfect So.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
I mean, you're pretty happy that you're here.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
You're too meaning here.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Then you gents your college, so you mention your college.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
So I know you went to Altous State at one
point you graduate from Virginia State.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Yeah, yeah, I graduated. I have a psyche college and degree.
I don't think a lot of people got to things.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
And then when you talk to you, so I have
vot I think I have a brother of brother of
Bie Range.

Speaker 4 (10:21):
I have everything from big.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
Locked up at fifteen juvenile for a position of falk
here and a college degree and then all the stuff
in between that, and so I do feel like a
qualified to talk about so everything. You know what I'm
saying that I'm the spirits of here?

Speaker 3 (10:38):
What was your college experience like? Because okay, so you
have this like have you learning your book? And in
directly you feel me? You guys, does that you are cool?

Speaker 4 (10:46):
Cooking skin so free word of the book but right
behind this, by the way. So you make it through
all of these you know, very tough opus that you
just talk about, and then you get to college. Were
you girt generation your college to me? No?

Speaker 3 (10:57):
No, month on month went to school. I found out
my dad went to college. Edis funeral. I didn't even
leistereri on that lock there here, you know, a niggatave.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
Till but that I just see.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
It was still like the arn Mans, the phrase or stuffing,
but do for my all of mine? So my uncles
went to school. So yeah, but I think I went
to school. Uh like, if this makes sense on my own,
No one forced me. No one in fall for law
park By I was the high school. No one was
waking the yelo go to school. I just I like

(11:29):
going to school. I like dressing. First of all. I
like putting up clothes. I like the fela. Normal people
think you know what I'm saying. I never made a
sea fall all. I went to college.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Over my face, it's supped to be going and asking
many I was so abode was able to go.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
To earn the scholarship, and then then I can you
get to college? You learned at all? You got to
do is really go to class and do work.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
And I was able to graduate and little involved in
my life. But yeah, that was just another chapter. It's
like another champion, like two chips.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
What you see a big time because I mean, I'm
not so HBC.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
You and I talk a lot about the experience of
being born on campus and how you get so much
just from that. Don't even think of the classes.

Speaker 4 (12:12):
If I start great to just be a campus or
it's your life. How did it go to an HPC,
you like, how did that experience mold you into PC today?
Right here?

Speaker 2 (12:22):
Well, first of all, I'm in my wife in college,
I better so you see how that get that turns
out of the a story.

Speaker 3 (12:31):
But I live a lot of my friends there. I
was already to get a social butterify. I'd like to
be around and give up like be around what's going on?

Speaker 2 (12:39):
And so I think you go into an HPC, you
allowed me to be more with the indoors in what
culture is from different places.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
Because when you go to college, people from every grade,
not just from Lobo.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
So I was just like a local local Jogo when
I was in college, far cool trained or whatever that was.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
But when I got on a road which outcome.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
I met people from shoot fib or Detroit, New York,
you know, La tour or whatever, and I would learn.
I remember when my friend.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
From Wolves he will beyond the hot or as a mister.

Speaker 6 (13:13):
Stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (13:15):
Just by you.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
When a bunch of people go from different areas come
together like Dumbo, it just makes a lot of a
unique experience. You mentioned any video like college love that score.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
We also watched your propos at the that kind of
and you know all the great things. What was your
conversation might do that voice in your head at the
five and you say, I'm want to propose. Other of
you guys have been together for some years, but what
was that conversation? Like that.

Speaker 7 (13:48):
Crazy other be placed thirty five thoughts on the plate, right,
So I get invited.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
By up telling by Posac.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
He does I'm doing the collaboration with real Pasacha man
and my whole bust of lady.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
You gotta these shoes called shame reactions with Pisaka. So
they invited be you know each as as of the
bag gap, let's start there and.

Speaker 6 (14:19):
So soon as beginning ex telling us to go to
fifth five and we get spending on them up to
one hundred hours at the Pasaca.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
So we upstairs and eat track and vine and we
walk around and Personca Bross.

Speaker 5 (14:32):
Just.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
Get some money or you're like this, I'll get it anyway.
It's who are Craik can can be getting, you know
what I'm saying. So I'm like you, I'm like, I'm just.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
Trying to think if somebody could do it, they could
be its store and last or after me.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
Right, so I go too much of yours. Let's say, man,
you know, I think I'm gonna think I'm gonna do be.
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 6 (14:58):
I think I'm to do it.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
And so I get to bring here. I got her
all set up, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
And so fast forward to got the pantallons the rove
and they said, a lady pro paris to do Keisha
bakerp You're gonna cluse somebody.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
You know what I'm saying, You getting you maked up?
Cheers supers, and uh we get to the med Gallan.
Now I get the count of a little nervous, but
I'm like, we're here now, and I remember whether they
held the met gallifi that if one versus the front you.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Then they held up pant gallic lyle and then I'm
gonna say real, so real king, and she said all
the spot.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
So I said, maybe this is God tend to me
is just do this another time? Right?

Speaker 6 (15:42):
This is not a right tam, so we can get
out of there. He polls and and stuff. So keisha
a little love lady, and the rain won't come out
I'm talking about. I'm like, he's sent a little loss
and bunt then sign from crazy.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
So I'm like, say, fucking by you. How you're grady?
It's I know it's opening them so a rangy, just
like you opened the bottom make it like this is
this a X?

Speaker 4 (16:14):
And so.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
Some I'm supposed to be trying go in here telling
me something out And many years fitty then years I
was seeing the wrong paces. It's a long time and
I got shot in my heavy right and so when
I when.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
She turned around, number wasn't me. She said, I'll go.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
To baby caps and then I show up and then
that's not having much all together.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
The bullet in my head.

Speaker 6 (16:48):
So that's what I was supposed to do.

Speaker 3 (16:51):
Yeah, but nothing got.

Speaker 4 (16:56):
Y'all gotta talk a little bit about you know, but
you played sports, you play all in comage, they're a
discipline about too that there hat piece of conversations the
guy as busy, I get intuition to just now with
the lock in and locked tail.

Speaker 3 (17:10):
And I think that's why your career has been so successful.

Speaker 4 (17:12):
Your fastens and the thing that you're doing when you're
in decieting. You know what discipline looks like pre you
a different failure of the body.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
So like dad.

Speaker 4 (17:20):
Discipline, we're the state discipline. Nobody if you have a
book discipline, you're balancing it all. What is it that
regiment like get the conversation like we got a lot
of bank I could.

Speaker 6 (17:30):
Be going to notes.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
With discipline even you have could cut your head for me.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
I think what the outcome? This could be a good
or bad. So obviously well disciplined enough to goes that
you know that it's a fine. I would like to
just to be past it. Kind some of them talk
about it all that a little different. That's how I
think that's I think it all from my.

Speaker 4 (17:54):
Murder of the right kits, even like I found out
wed because I'm a shrubbery has.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
Some ristal switch.

Speaker 4 (17:59):
One do that sure, it was great. It's so he said,
you don't you change you to hand their kady r.
I think because the head why my franchise CHRISTI what
doesn't she's changed? And like I just said, so even.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
At maybe right, but I know you have the right. Guys,
make sure you if you are cold on my uses
can or pre word at the book. But in my
final question is that your too nords urny although that's
been shire cold is working. But it's a good reading.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
That place is get so.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
This is good read your voice and my is God.
So this look when you said, y'all the name of
the book is the first was the voice that your
head with the then cultish your.

Speaker 4 (18:40):
Baby change it?

Speaker 3 (18:41):
Yeah, He said that a lot of the fires would
think he was a religious based boots if.

Speaker 5 (18:46):
I gets hours that because I I can broke God.
So but I didn't already change perm God. So I
changed it to the voice in my hands. So I
was just speaking for me. You might have a wicked voice.

Speaker 3 (18:57):
And you that I could for me. It's supposed to
Sid told me you you they look like this. People
like this, he said, if you don't want working them,
want to try?

Speaker 4 (19:15):
Yes, trying out now ask you that and talk girl,
the boys and you know, how about you here where
you are right now? What would you tell any of
these young creators. People in the audience were struggling with
really's happening?

Speaker 3 (19:28):
As the boys in their head. There isn't I think
you are the first.

Speaker 4 (19:32):
This is what it is?

Speaker 3 (19:33):
Okay, this this is another thing we got three k
as anybody in here said.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
Something told me, Something told me where it is, Something
told me don't go Gert, something told you didn't If
you think about what something told you bo was just
doe find out what it is because we all.

Speaker 3 (19:52):
Have you got itself told we don't even so so
we don't. So so if girl, I ain't going, I
wasn't even coming here or not some told me to
do it? Whatever it is something they is tapt this
to day. So just what this book wind out. But
if something is find out what everybody too. But something
told me to come up this it's something to me
that he come up. Somebody, boys are gonna come here today,
and then something told you to come here today and

(20:14):
then you bring it to be.

Speaker 4 (20:15):
That's what that is.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
That's what I'm saying, then you that's what it is.
I wasn't Eve gonna come up in there and bread
the two show you go, you gonna be something told
me to come on he put it, give you my
way on. Now you're gonna flourish. Just just be so
plumbing it and be great and everything, y'all.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
At the end of each episode, I tell you, guys,
I am always appreciative for you guys tuning and my
lowriders who've been rocking out with me, born or not.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
I appreciate you guys.
