Classic Interview with Dick Gregory and More

Monday 8/21- Today on the show we payed homage to comedian/activist Dick Gregory after he passed this weekend. He spoke on Donald Trump, race relations and more. Also we did the listeners favorite segment "Shoot Your Shot" where a listener tried to shoot his shot at a woman who he passed up in the past cause of her heavy weight, but not anymore. But as the new saying goes "Had back fat they didn't want me, but now I'm hot and they all on me". Also, after a heartbreaking ending to the show "Power" last night, Charlamagne gave "Donkey of the Day" to the son Tariq St. Patrick for his actions in the show.

cardboards and aluminium foil. But that you still can't directly
look at the sun. You gotta have to use those
to look at it. Well, I want to, Well, I'm
gonna try. You can't use regular sunglasses right now. You
have to get specials. It look like three D glasses.
I've seen them. Yes, well, hopefully you can still find

them somewhere. I'm gonna try to get them. I gotta
get like for all the kids are excited to see him,
So I'm gonna trying to get Yeah, you can't see
it from here. Who said you can't unless you go
to like Liberty Science in Jersey. The best place down south.
You just need like an open space that We're not
gonna have a very long time in New York right
viewing it. But you can see you can see it.
You just have to go someplace where there's no tall

buildings in the way. One of the best places to
see it is absolutely Columbia, South Carolina. Because I was
totally upset that I couldn't take my daughter because I
had to be in La this weekend. But yes, South
Carolina is one of the best places to see it. Really,
down south is one of the best places to see it.

see it. I know they said if you have an
open field with no buildings, you might have an opportunity
in a chance to see it. So I'm gonna check

all the places in New York and New Jersey where
I can't see it. The kids those glasses. I'm gonna
try to get the glasses today, which is awfully wave
because the sun in the moon is everywhere. So I thought, right, yeah, yeah,
we all on the one sun and one moons. I
don't understand why everybody wouldn't see it at the same time. Well,
you know there's time, different time zones and one forty
three here, right, we're on the same East coast time

is down south. Yeah, we're in the same time zone.
But I think the sun is in a different position
there than it is here. So it's when the moon
is passing in front of the sun, and so I'm
sure at different angles you see it differently at different times.
As kids didn't we wasn't it a bigger eclipse when
we were kids and we watched it thirteen seventy nine,
I believe, No, I don't remember. I don't know that one.
That was the nineteen seventy nine. I don't know that

thought they was one. Had stop stop trying to add

I remember talking about it in school. I don't know.
The only eclipse I acknowledge is push your tea in malts,

And it's also a solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse.
So this one's a solar eclipse un is obviously with
the moon. Well, shout everybody in North Carolina. Angela and
I were in North Carolina on Friday. Should have stayed
to us the solar eclipse right for real. We were
at Peter Thomas's Club one, which is rammed out. Shout
to him, yeah it was passing and then shout. But

at that party with me in the city at ASAP,
fur kid out and performed did his damn thing too.

that went on over the weekend. It's pretty exciting to
see everybody coming out to protests against racism. Also I'll
give you some more updates on what's happening with the
solar eclipse. All right, we'll get into all that when

news and let's talk about this solo eclipse a little more.
All right, So we're gonna do some last minute information
about the solo eclipse in case you haven't been paying attention.
The last one that we had was in nineteen seventy nine,
and that was the total solar eclipse, the last time

that we had one of those. So this is a
monumental thing. You might never see this again in your lifetime.
This is gonna happen today starting at ten am on
the West coast and it ends on the East coast
a little before three pm. Also, it last a few hours. Yeah,
last a few hours, depending on where you are. Okay, yeah, smooth.
The South Carolina's a lot of lizard Man sightings. The
Liza Man is supposed to come out once the solo

(04:43):
eclipse hits today. The lizard Man, What the hell's the
Liza man old South Carolina, miss you know, so clearly
a man. That's the lizard who lives in like the swamps,
and he'll probably come out to day during the solo eclipse.
All right, Well, as far as you're watching it, the
total solo eclipse is gonna last about two minutes depending
on where you are. The longest time of the event
is about two minutes and forty three seconds. That's when

everything goes dark. So what you're to do, you'repposed to
make a wish or something like? What's to do? Exciting
for people to watch because you might never see something
like this again. Some people feel like it's a scary thing.
Like back in the day they to feel like because
they didn't know exactly what it was, it was like ominous.
It's got to be something spiritual connected to it to
like we're posed to I'm gonna make a wish, That's
what I'm gonna do. If you wish on a fallen star,

you should wish when you see a solar clipse. I'm
gonna do something. I'm not gonna just sit there and
be like, oh what, look at that mighty marvel of
the world. So what exactly is a solar eclipse. A
solar eclipse is when the Moon's shadow falls on the
Earth as it passes between us and the Sun. So
that means, uh, that's why it's gonna be dark now.
Lunar eclipses is the opposite. That's when the Moon is
blacked out by moving into the shadow of the Earth.

So this one we're having is a solar eclipse. I'm
gonna make a wish. I would pray, but that would
be kind of stupid to close your eyes during that
whole thing, because and make sure you wear glasses if
you plan to watch and not just really go blind.
So you have to get the special glasses or as
you could do long term damage to your eyes. So
don't play around with that trying to be cute, trying
to look directly into the sun. Just get you some

three D glasses from the movie theater. That way you
can see a cold. That's They're pretty cheap. You can
go to any drug store and get them, so make
sure you go pick them up. A lot of people
can have messed the boys after this. I know a
lot of people want to be like I can see you.
I know that for sure. Yeah, because they're gonna be expect.
I wonder if you look through your phone, because you
know a lot of people gonna be listening to do
that either. And if you're gonna get the camera ornocular,
yeah right, unless you have the glasses on too, or
they have special filters thing for the camera, because the

thing is if you zoom in or something like that,
it actually intensifies. Well, guess what, it's gonna be a
lot of blind people after there's no way in how
this generation is going to avoid looking through their phone.
I'm trying to take a picture. Well, if you have
the glasses on, you should be fine. All right. Well
let's talk about all these protests. Well, we were all
talking about the scheduled quote unquote free speech rally, which

is really just code for we want to discuss racist
things and promote that without being arrested. But that happens
in Boston, and they were about forty thousand protests esters
they came to Boston to rally against these quote unquote
free speech people. So anti hate protesters, anti hate protests,
that's that's craving Boston because Boston always has the reputation

of being a racist city. Thirty three people who are
arrested very few injuries that happened. And now amongst all
of that, there was also protest in Atlanta as well.
And here is what the protesters were chanting, MONEF Trump,
get out the way. How they get a band? They
had a band with them playing Istrabel. Yeah, they very organized.

There was about two thousand demonstrators on the streets in
Atlanta and they were peacefully protesting all of the racism
and hate that was on display in Charlottesville, Virginia the
previous week. And in Virginia they are trying to get
rid of they started this petition. They want to get
rid of some Confederate monuments and replace that with the
statue of Missy Elliott's. According to the Constantly Elliot, I

was kidding, well, he said, the guy started it together.
We can put white supremacy down, flip it and reverse it.
You're trying to you mean to tell me a matter
of fact, this is the anniversary of Nat Turner's slave Rebellion,
which happened in Virginia. Right, But y'all want to put
up a picture, I mean, a statue of Missy Elliott.
I love Missy Elliott, but I'm just saying, wouldn't you
rather much have a statue in that turner or somebody
like why Missy Elliott? Well, they felt like she was

born there. She had a significant rise from her very
humble beginnings, and she had over thirty million albums sold.
What does that have to do with black people's civility?
I love Missy Elliot, but Jesus right, can we get up?

Dick Gregory. It's about the Breakfast Club. Well, yes, Dick
Gregory was eighty four years old when he passed. According

to his rep he died from heart failure. He was
recently hospitalized for an unknown but serious condition that Dick
Gregory has been on the Breakfast Club before. A Canadian actor, writer,
civil rights actor. This he was the first black performer
to perform at a white club in nineteen sixty one,
when Hugh Hefner saw that he was talented and gave
him a regular spot at the ploy Playboy Club in Chicago.

He also performed on The Tonight Show back in the days,
but refused unless he was able to have a seat
on the couch. And often people will say things like,
why do you have guys like Dick Gregory on the
Breakfast Club. He has nothing to do with hip hop,
He's old, I'm like, this is why because he's iconic. Absolutely. Absolutely,
he was arrested numerous times during marches in the sixties
as well, among with some of the biggest civil rights

leaders of the decade. To rest in peace to Dick Gregory.

Whitney Houston, there's a Showtime documentary that is going to
be coming out and it's called Whitney Can I Be Me? Now?
There's some previously unseen to our footage from nineteen ninety nine,

and there's some interviews with Whitney Houston's friends and family.
They're going to talk about all kinds of things, including
the fact that she was on drugs way before she
met Bobby Brown. Also rumors about her sexuality because everybody
said that her best friend that used to work for
her was also her girlfriend, and her downfall and kind
of how they had built up this flawless image of
Whitney Houston that her record label wanted to do. They

wanted her to really cross over, and they said her
brothers actually used to give her the drugs. They said
they would party, and that's what people did back then.
They also said her first number one hit, which was
Saving All My Love for You, they did that because
any song that was too funky or two R and
B or too black was rejected for Whitney by the label.
They wanted to kind of whitewash her, and they said

she actually got booed at the Soul Tryan Awards back
in nineteen eighty nine. It was some backfire to all
of that whitewashing, so that she never really recovered from
that situation. But it seems like it gonna be a
really good documentary. That's crazy though, because all of Whitney
houston songs seemed like they had so much soul. Like
nothing about Whitney ever seen whitewashed to me, I think
earlier on if you hear some of her songs like

After she got Bobby Brown, right, she met Last Name
is Brown and she had to put Brown learn at
that culture in the words where she got booed. That's
where they met, and that kind of changed her life
because they try to make her have this clean image

that kind of brought back who she really was, nice
