Speaker 1 (00:01):
George.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
I'm a homegrow that knows a little bit about everything
and everybody.
Speaker 3 (00:05):
You don't know if you don't lie about that, right,
la Hey, y'all, what's up.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
It's Laura l Rosa and this is the Latest with
Lauren the Rosa. This is your daily dig on all
things pop culture, entertainment, news, and all of the conversations
that shake the room. Baby now today, getting on right
into the latest. So on Tuesday, at eight point eight
magnitude earthquake in Russia's Eastern Peninsula caused huge waves to
(00:34):
reach Hawaii. So the island of Hawaii, which is also
home to you know, like there's there's several celebrities who
live there on Wilson, Jeff Bezos, but outside of celebrity,
you have everyday people who were there. And if you
ever if you've ever been to Hawaii, you know how
beautiful it is. You know how much things are surrounded
by water and you know different encloses, So you can
imagine how much damage a massive earthquake like at eight
(00:58):
point eight magnitude earthquake cause a four foot wave did
to the island and what that means for the people
that are living there now. I mentioned some of the
celebrities that live there, because one celebrity in particular right
now is being dragged, and it is Oprah. Oprah is
being dragged because there were accusations out there that Oprah
(01:19):
closed down a private road near her Hawaii home that
I guess could have helped the Hawaiian locals get to
higher ground as they were trying to evacuate all of
the elements.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
And the rumor got so big and so loud that.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
A spokesperson for Oprah came out and denied the accusations
that she kept the private road that runs through her
state in Maui closed as locals tried to escape following
a Hawaii tsunami warning that went out. The spokesperson says,
as soon as we heard of the tsunami warnings, we
contacted local law enforcement and FEMA to ensure the road
was open. Any other reports otherwise are false now. The
(01:55):
spokesperson also went on to say local law enforcement are
currently on site helping residents through fitty cars at a
time to ensure everyone's safety. The road will remain open
as long as necessary now. The Maui Police also did
confirm that Oprah cooperated as well. They wrote in a
statement that Oprah's Road is open to get up country.
(02:16):
The full statement actually talked about like other highways that
were congested, It talked about roads that were congested as well.
It talked about roads above a golf course called the
Backinna golf Course providing access to different grounds that you know,
people needed to get to. And then they mentioned that
Oprah's Road is open to get the up country as well.
(02:36):
They also list different shelters where you can stay. Now,
my whole point in bringing this up is and even
in talking about this, I felt crazy bringing up celebrities
that lived in Hawaii because it's like celebrity or regular person,
you don't want anything to happen to anyone at all.
And then when you think about something like this that
is a natural disaster, there's nothing you can do, Like,
(02:57):
there's nothing that any one of the people who are
going to be a feed to buy this and are
currently being affected by this could do to prevent this
from happening. So, whether you have money and resources or
whether you don't, everyone's there who's there trying.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
To figure it out.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
I hate that when things like this happen, people turn
these conversations into ways to target celebrities, whether it's about
how much money or support they are or not giving
what they're physically doing or not. Y'all, these natural disasters
happen and people are just trying to survive.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
That should be the conversation right now.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
I'm glad that, you know, police were able to make
the statement and the outlets picked it up, so that
people there in the midst of all of this chaos
and this, you know what I mean, You're trying to
make sure.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
Their family is straight, their kids are straight.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Know the information and know that they have these escape
routes and you know, these shelters available and things of
that nature. And if you're listening to the podcast and
you are in the area of these natural disasters that
are happening over there in Maui, if you go to
Maui County dot gov and then go to their Alert center,
you can get all this information because we do want
to be helpful and talking about this, so you can
(04:03):
find out about shelters, traffic, evacuation routes, water and the
water systems and the damage and where that's at, you know,
parks and facilities and how those are you know, being affected.
It's closed, it's open transportation, any public transportation that is available,
Like the Maui County dot gov website is talking about
how all Maui bus services will cease operations by six
(04:26):
thirty PM or earlier based on the route according to
the County Department of Transportation, and they give you a
dispatch number as well in case you have any questions.
There's updates on the tsunami and just the county's response,
like how you know FEMA in the county and local
LA enforcement they're working together to make sure people are okay.
The fact that we are even talking about Oprah, and
(04:47):
I love Oprah.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Oprah can do no wrong.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
In my household you grow up with older black women,
Oprah does no wrong.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
But at the same time, I just think it's.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Ridiculous that people are literally staring down the barrel of
a natural dis like this, fighting for their lives, trying
to figure things out.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
And that's the conversation that we are having.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
But the fact that Oprah had to come out and
even make that statement goes to show you just how
much people care about celebrity for all the wrong.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
Reasons and in all of the wrong times.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
You guys, remember when We had that conversation here about
Mary J. Blige and a very long time friend of hers,
fashion stylist, fashion architect, legend icon and the fashion lane
Amisa Hillton, who was you know, stylist for Mary J. Blige,
stylist for Little Kim. She actually dressed Little Kim for
the legendary met Gala. Look that Little Kim wore when
(05:40):
she went to the met Gala and became the first
female rapper to attend the met Gala.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
They had, you know, they were in the midst of
a legal back and forth.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Well, that back and forth is still going on, and
we have some updates here because now Mary J. Blige
is finally speaking out, fighting back via her attorneys, and
she is saying that the lawsuit is frivolous and that
this is you know, she's a legend, that this is
basically harassment.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
It's all about money.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
But before we get into the new details, I want
to take a listen to the conversation that we had
when I first spoke to you guys about this lawsuit,
just to kind of give you some background for anybody
who may not have heard the episode. We spoke to
the lawyer for Mesa Hilton, who explained to us what
Mesa Hillton what her issue was at the time that
(06:27):
the lawsuit was originally filed. Now this was some months ago,
and this was such a big shock to a lot
of people because Misa Hilton, who is also the mother
of Justin Colmes, Sean Diddy Combs's son, his second oldest
son after Quincy. It was a big shock because they've
been friends and I mean best friends for decades.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
So so so long.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
So people just could not understand what would make her
file a lawsuit against Mary J.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Blige. And then we got some of the details.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Let's take a listen to Mesa Hillton's attorney giving me
Society the story of why this lawsuit was originally fouled
in the first place, from some months ago.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
One of the main parts of this lawsuit, not the
whole thing, but the main part is that why would
she stifle her own artist. And in fact, from what
I understand, the allegations go as far as that they
told allegedly Misa, well, if you stop managing him, then
we'll put him back on, which is a complete material
(07:26):
breach of the contract. And again we found that very
strange because of their long standing family relationship. So we
were reaching out with the hope said hey, listen, let's
just settle this.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Let's just figure this out.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
More importantly, the one who's suffering here, besides Mesa's relationship
with her sister is Vado. Unfortunately, what is he doing
is the entire career has now been.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Stifled now when all has happened. At the time, you know,
of course we had tried. I had tried anyway to
reach out to Mary J. Blige to just hear her
side of things, but there was enough. I got no
statement or response, there was nothing filed back in response
or anything whatsoever.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
But this week Mary J.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Blige decided to speak out and she filed documents in
response to the lawsuit, and she's asking for.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
A judge to drop the lawsuit. Now.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
According to the legal docs that were filed by Mary J.
Blige's lead attorney, her name is Lisa Moore. Lisa Moore,
mary J. Blige's attorney, is saying that they believe they
include Mary J. Blige, believe that this lawsuit originally filed
by Mesa Hillton for the sole purpose of harassing and
causing malicious injury to Mary J.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Blige.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
They called the lawsuit, as I told you guys, patently frivolous.
They also say that this is all about money. Now,
according to these docs, Mary J. Blige's team has been
pushing for this lawsuit to be dismissed since May. They
say that, you know, because the lawsuit is baseless under
the governing contracts that they alleged they had between them
(08:59):
and Mesa Hillton, including you know, text messages. Because at
the heart and the root of all of this is
an artist, Saint Votto. He is a rapper out of
New York that Mary J. Blige, that Mesa Hilton is.
You know, she's saying that she manages him and it
is helping to craft and build his career. She at
one point was doing that in partnership with Mary J. Blige,
(09:21):
which included him opening up allegedly, you know, for Mary
J Oblige on different tours and different shows and things
of that nature. And then all of that stopped, as
we heard from Nick, all of that stopped and allegedly,
according to uh, you know, Missa Hill's team once Vodo
would not solely sign with Mary J. Blige and take
Mesa Hilton out of the mix. Now, this is all
(09:41):
alleged and according to Massa Hillton's team, but Mary j.
Blige is saying that according to the governor governing contracts
that they had between the parties and actual texts that
she has and she's alleging are from Vodo himself raising
the issue and wanting to fire Mesa in the management
company that was managed him, none of that can be true.
(10:02):
This lawsuit just does not hold up. And I mentioned
the money. Now, what they're actually saying in regards to
the money is that all of these things, like you know,
the lawsuit is filed allegedly, there's these narrative running online
now because of the lawsuit and the things that were
alleged in the lawsuit, and Mary je Oblige's attorneys and
you know, her team are saying that they believe that
(10:23):
this is all going down because they alleged that meets
the hill in in Vodo are just looking for a
favorable settlement, like they just want money. And Mary j
Oblige is saying, I'm fighting back and that is not
going to happen.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
So Judge, please dismiss this lawsuit.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
If not, we will go forward in court, but we
are not going to buckle to what they allege is
a shakedown. This is very disheartening because, as I told
you guys, they've been friends for a very long time.
It's been like thirty some years that they've been friends,
and from everything that I've known, you know, they've always
had each other's backs because they've been through so much together.
(10:57):
Obviously this lawsuit is not reading this that way at all.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
All.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
I have reached out to Mesa Hillton's team just in
response to MARYA je Obliges recent filing and her coming
back out and fighting back against the claims that are
out there against her and all the things that I've
told you guys that she is now alleging, But I
haven't her back. I mean, right now, I would say
that if I am Mesa hill and if I am
Mary J. Blige, you want this to be settled in
(11:22):
a way where you know, me and my friend don't
have to be in court or a former friend, because
at this point I don't think there's any way that
they would call each other friends, which is so insane, y'all.
Like I can't even describe to you guys how insane
it is that Mesa hill In and Marriag j A
Blige just are at this point. But I wouldn't wanted
to get to a point where I'm even having to
deal with court.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
But it seems like both parties are not backing down.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
So unless this is thrown out by a judge, which
has not happened yet, nothing has been decided. This filing
just literally just happened. But we'll keep you guys up
the date to let you know how it goes down,
because if it goes to court, those things get nasty.
You know, there's evidence that is inputed, there's conversations that
are made public and things put on blast. That you're
dealing with two women who have been known figures. You know,
(12:07):
Mary J. Blige is the Mary J. Blige for some time.
So there's a huge spotlight, a huge spotlight on this
because of all of those things and because of those
variables that just make things worse, to be honest with you,
like one hundred percent worse. So I'll keep you guys
up to day on how that goes down and what
goes down if anything, all right, y' Also, that's all
(12:27):
we got for you today and the latest I know,
we kind of were all over the place. We was
hip hop we in your we're talking Mary J. Blige,
and then we take it all over to Maui and
is you know, give you guys some updates, make sure
Ready is good, and letting you know Oprah ain't blocking
and oprahin's stopping the show. It's not happening, but that is,
you know, that's the latest. The latest is there's a
(12:48):
lot going on.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
Because I tell.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Y'all every episode at the end of the day, there's
always a lot to talk about. But you guys, my lowriders,
being right here with me to talk about it.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
I appreciate you guys so much.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
I will see you guys in my next episode.
