Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know what it is that Steve Harvey's Saturdays. But
we're gonna stop and do a little time at time,
all right. That's when we talk to ordinary people that
are doing extraordinary things. That special guest this morning is
a retired Sergeant first Class, a G. Sheila Snipe, the
twenty two years veteran from the United States arm and
she is, by her own claim, a people person. She

(00:20):
loves helping us. Put your hands together and welcome the
one and only Miss Sheila Snipes. Good morning, Sheila, Great morning, Tommy.
How are you? I'm good baby. How you doing, Tommy?
If I was doing any better, I'll tell you I
am one of the top shelf looking up. That's what
I'm talking about. Let's talk about it. Twenty two years
in the service, serving our country a long time. What

(00:42):
was that like? Wow, that's a good question. Nobody has
ever asked me. But it was scary, humbling, and truly
an honor to be able to serve twenty two years
with some amazing service members. You know, the Army to me,
is the best organization of the world that I got
a chance to serve. It not just the Army, but
the Navy, Air Force, Marines fighting on the battlefield for

(01:05):
our uns and daughters freedom. So you know it was
just humbling, twenty two years humbling. Did you go in
right after high school? I did not. I joined when
I was twenty one. And let me tell you how
doing it was either you know, my mother was like,
you better get yourself together or you're gonna get kicked out.
So I said, you know what, I better get myself
together and I'm I'm gonna join the army. And that's

(01:27):
how it happened. How many countries did you make it too? Um?
I served in the Gulf War. Um served seven months
over in the Gulf War. My unit was the first
one to deploy over there, and I was stationed in Korea,
went to Japan. But other than that state side here
with the amazing warriors here in the United States. So

(01:49):
Sergeant first Class a G. A G is the Adjutant
General CORES. That's just our branch of servants with is
the combat, the support, and we serviced all of the soldiers.
You know, make sure that that paperwork is good from
the time that they enter the army until the time
that they exit. Okay, so were you were you ever

(02:11):
on boots? On the ground. Were you out in the field? Absolutely,
always in the field, always in the field. And again
so seven months in desert storm, there's a shield. First
boots on the ground way before the war started, back
in the day. So absolutely, boots always on the ground
for twenty two years. Did you jump about the helicopter? See, yes,

(02:32):
I am area Salt Hook. That is so sexy to me.
Woman jumping out of the helicopter. Good God, him mighty.
It's scary to Tommy, but I did it. So let's
fast forward. Now you're being in the service twenty two years,
and then there's a transition from military to entrepreneurship. Yes,
what exactly did you do once you left the military?

(02:55):
Once I left the military, which one thing I love
about the military. Of course, they want you to be
at a transition smoothly. So you know, we go through
these classes, teach you how to dress for success, because
I've been wearing a uniform for twenty two years. You
know how to write a good resume because now I'm
going from service member to civilian. But one thing they
didn't teach us, which none of us learned in school,

(03:16):
is about entrepreneurship. And so I've always dreamt of being
my own boss so that I could be able to
give back. And I didn't know what vehicle I was
going to be put before me to be able to
do that. But entrepreneurship is where is that gives you
that that freedom and that time that you know so
many people want. But it's hard work. It's hard work, understand.

(03:39):
So let me ask you this, So what took you
to You're in the travel industry now right. I am
in the travel industry. I do it part time and
I love it. Thevel industry with you, well, of course,
you know travel too many times being in the military,
and of course I traveled to places I didn't want
to go, and it took me twenty out of the

(04:00):
twenty two years. It took me twenty years just to
go on a vacation, Tommy. And you know that's because
of my job. But an old army buddy of mine
who happened to be my aerosol sergeant, said, schill, I
want you to take a look at something. Now. He
didn't know that I was looking for a part time
job that I really didn't want to do, but he said,

(04:20):
let me share something with you. So I took a
look at it, and I had no idea that the
travel industry is lucrative and it's a trillion dollar industry. Wow,
that I did not know. I had no idea. Twelve zeros,
to be exact, Tommy, twelve zeros, okay, twelve zeros and trillions.
I ain't got that in my bank account. I'll tell
you that. Do me a favorite. You know, I love

(04:43):
when kids can hear options when they get to that
eighteen nineteen years old. You're getting ready to leave high
school and your head is spending. You don't know what
to do, you don't know where to go, and you know,
not everybody is wanting to go and hit the collegiate
level and do college. So the fact that the military
is an option, what can you say to you? Is
coming up? And more importantly, you know young ladies that

(05:05):
are coming out of school. Wow, that's a good question. Um.
First off, I would say, go after your dreams. Yes,
not everyone is meant to go to a four year college,
but you know you don't have to go to an
institution to to learn. If so many self development books
out here, Tommy, I would say, find yourself a mentor

(05:27):
someone that is in the going in the direction is
already in that field that you want to go into.
Latch onto them, learn everything that you can learn from them,
and again, just just have the belief that whatever you
want to do, you can do it. If you think
you can, you can. If you say you can't, then
you can't. But you know, just dream, dream big, and

(05:49):
go fast. That's right now. Would you encourage them to
take a peek at the army? Absolutely, it's the again
greatest organization of world. It will teach you some things,
I'll say, you know, it will make you upbreak you definitely.
But I I believe that every young person should at
least serve two to four years in the United States

(06:09):
Army or whatever branch of service, because it's a humbling
experience and that allows you to give back sacrificing, and
that's what it's all about. We all have to sacrifice
some things to you know, put yourself aside to help
someone else. So yes, I do believe that I like
them doing two to four years. I think it actually
would get you a lot more organized and on track

(06:30):
to start your life. I really do. Absolutely. That is
that's our girl. Let's give a big round applause. Sheelas
Knips twenty two years in military. This is time of time.
This is where we talk to ordinary people that are
doing extraordinary things see Lott. We want to say thank you,
baby girl, thank you Tommy for having me. It's truly
a pleasure. God bless baby. Thanks so much, God bless
