Speaker 1 (00:00):
Justin hot topic. Give it to us.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Yeah, if you're in a snowstorm stuck at home, do
you when you order food delivery do you feel like
you need to tip extra?

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Don't answer it yet, think about it.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
This video was everywhere, so basically, a guy ordered Dominoes
in a snowstorm. The pizza gets delivered, he tips the
driver twenty percent, and the driver doesn't like that.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
He thinks it should be more.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
There's a huge confrontation, and then the customer defended himself.
So I'll play it all for you. Here's the confrontation,
the guy threatening him, the delivery driver, and then the
customer defending himself.

Speaker 4 (00:34):
Hey, thanks to.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Ton, Yeah whatever for shoot dollar kid. You know I
should have had you guys come to the store.

Speaker 4 (00:39):
Yeah, I good, think I got on film. Good job
losing your job, Dominoes driver. This is about this weather.
Will straight the dominoeser.

Speaker 5 (00:51):
I wasn't planning on calling the store until I saw
the death threat and just having someone that manic out
there I thought needed to be addressed. The tip was
five dollars and thirty something sence there was a three
to ninety nine delivery charge. The food itself was almost
thirty dollars, So the biggest premise that people are having
a hard time with. When he says two dollars at

(01:14):
the beginning, that's him exaggerating.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
So who's in the I mean, obviously, threatening a customer's
life and flipping out is never the answer.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
That can be mad. But you need to be getting
your car and drive away exactly. Yeah, But who's right
and who's wrong here? That's the question, right. I feel
like you should at least more than twenty percent.

Speaker 6 (01:32):
I think so too.

Speaker 7 (01:33):
If it's the middle of a snowstorm, they're driving in
their own car. It's really rough driving, it's treacherous. I
would always hope that someone would want to tip more
because of that.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
You think, uh, and I'm in agreement.

Speaker 8 (01:46):
I think, yeah, if it's a snowstorm, extenuating circumstances, you
want to tip more, but gave in mind, not everybody can.

Speaker 9 (01:52):
I also think it depends, But it depends on the
price of the food. So say, if it was one
hundred dollars order right, and you're tipping twenty dollars percent
or whatever, Okay, that's acceptable to go out, you know, maybe,
But if if it's only a thirty dollars order and
you know it's six dollars, then you should a minimum
of ten, you.

Speaker 10 (02:09):
Know what I mean?

Speaker 3 (02:10):
In that situation.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
If you look at the video.

Speaker 9 (02:12):
You see the video, it's it's very stormy out. It's
not like a dusting, it's like it's inches and maybe
a foot of snow, and you don't want to go out,
but you want this person to come deliver for you.
And also, most delivery drivers don't get like a minimum wage.
They get like eight bucks an hour or something like that.
It's less than minimum wage.

Speaker 7 (02:30):
Pays have to sort of put yourself in their position
and kind of pay it forward a little bit, you
know what I mean. If that was you delivering, like
you'd be so like thankful that someone thought of you.

Speaker 8 (02:40):
But everybody's different too, because some people can't give more, right,
you know, I just feel like there's the expectation delivery guy, right.

Speaker 6 (02:48):
And then this then this escalated into something really ugly
because the.

Speaker 9 (02:51):
Thing is, if you're committing to ordering food, right, you
can't commit to five more dollars exactly, you know what
I take?

Speaker 7 (02:58):
Yeah, come on, or even two more dollars was something
more than just the standard.

Speaker 8 (03:02):
Yeah, And in a snowstorm or bad weather, it's a
much bigger job, you know, because you're not going out.
Think about that you ordered the food because you didn't
want to go out and risk the weather.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah, it's funny.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
I remember a snow one because people in my neighborhood
will get takeout during snowstorms and I'm always like, oh man,
that's crazy. But I remember one snowstorm. I think it
was last year. I wanted to order food delivery in
a snowstorm. My wife's like, absolutely not. We're not even
gonna put people on the road.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
To do what. I'm like, they're already out there.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
That's like when you.

Speaker 9 (03:32):
Uber eats, right, it's like it's I under like it's annoying.
It's it's basically double what you'd spend if you go
to pick it up yourself. But it's for the convenience.
When I get uber eat, I'm committing to paying double
because I don't want to leave my apartment, right, you know,
and because there's a fee and then a tip, and.

Speaker 6 (03:48):
Then and then add a snowstorm and yeah, so and
to take it.

Speaker 8 (03:52):
To that extreme for the delivery guy, you know, first
of all, okay, so you weren't happy with the tip.
You don't have to publish size, make a big deal,
certainly not threaten someone's life.

Speaker 9 (04:02):
Well, you know it's funny, is justin couldn't put in
for time. But if you watch the whole video, the
guy on the other when they call Domia to Domino's,
the employees say, yeah, we get complains someone all the time.
He always bitches about his tip. So it's like, so
that's why it's like the guy clearly is you know, jaded.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Yeah, you know, yeah, more and.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
More of this and it all gets captured on video too.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Let's go to Nicole if she's a door dasher.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
I think that's what he wanted more than the tip
is the attention. So we have Nicole. Hi, Nicole, what
do you have to say? Your door dash?

Speaker 10 (04:35):
Yes, good morning. I door dash every day. I can
tell you that I door dash. In storms, most people
do not tip more than five dollars whoa, whoa.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
That is shocking.

Speaker 6 (04:46):
Wow.

Speaker 10 (04:47):
Yes. And on top of that, we really only make
between two and three dollars a delivery wow from door
dash itself. So when we're out in a storm, it's
it's a little crazy when people, you know, tip a
dollar two dollars. I mean, I've had people tip me
a penny.

Speaker 6 (05:03):
Oh no, no, that's not good penny. Yeah, what's the what's
the biggest tip you've ever gotten?

Speaker 10 (05:10):
The biggest tip I ever got was on It was
a Smoky Bones order and it was a catering order,
and they tipped me. I believe it was fifty five dollars.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
So it was catering for a bigger group of people.

Speaker 10 (05:22):
Exactly.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
Yes, So Nicole, let me ask you a question.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
When you get tipped a low tip or no tip
or a penny, do you want to say something?

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Is it you know the voice inside? Are you saying something?

Speaker 10 (05:34):
I do? I want to say something terribly because I
just happen to be doing this. I'm in you know,
bad weather, I'm in my own car. I'm going up
driveways that have a foot of snow with you know,
nobody clearing anything, no lights on. It's a little dangerous.
So you do want to say something, but you don't
because it's part of your job. You just you don't
do that.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Well that's the difference. You don't, but he did.

Speaker 10 (05:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
No, So you basically live.

Speaker 8 (06:00):
On your tips because you know what you're getting per delivery.
Doesn't even probably meet your fuel costs and everything else.

Speaker 10 (06:06):
Not even close. And that's really why I came on,
because a lot of people don't realize, like, you don't
get paid well from these services. When you dash and
you do these things, you're really relying on the tips.
So I guess just food for thought for people that are,
you know, ordering delivery, especially in bad weather.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Yeah, very good.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Yeah, yeah, I just in my head, I think if
you have the money to order takeout and pay the fees,
the delivery fee which.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
Doesn't go to the driver, right, then you have enough
to tip.

Speaker 6 (06:33):
Yeah, more than a penny.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
My wife Jen used to be a a waitress before
she was a nurse, and she had to tap this
guy and the bill was something like eighty dollars and
he left her change under a dollar. I think like
sixty cents is in the tip god. So as he
was walking out, she took the change and walked over
to him and said, excuse me, sir, you you forgot
your change. And he turned around and said, Nahn, that's

(06:55):
for you and go and she goes, no, sir, it's
for you, and she threw the change.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Yeah, didn't work there for.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Long, Yes, where's working tomorrow?

Speaker 6 (07:09):
And now she's a nurse's nurse. I'm very happy it's
for you.

Speaker 8 (07:14):
We're coming up on right now. Six one seven, nine
three one one one eight. I'm sure you've got some
stories about tipping and door dash and Uber eats or anything.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
We'll take those stories, but we'll.

Speaker 8 (07:26):
Talk about anything, because this next segment right now, it
belongs to you and the listeners to give us a call.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Six one seven nine three one one one. Oh wait,
let's go.
