fundraising and helping us out with a variety of enrichment
programs for every grade level here, field trips, and just

they'll give us breakfast, they'll get coffee trucks here. We
might have an ice cream truck in the spring that's
donated by them. So they do an amazing job for

not just the students, but also for the staff here
and making sure that they're noticed and seen.

from Boxboro, Massachusetts. The Blanchard Memorial School principal Michael Vatto again,
he's the school principal, and he challenged kids to raise
twenty thousand dollars for certain funds and field trips and
everything else for the school. Well, the kids raised twenty

five thousand, and he said if they raised the money,
he would sleep on the roof of the school. And
he just got off the roof and he's on the phone. Michael,
you there, I am here.

I gotta tell you you are such a cool principal. Michael, congratulations.

Yeah, I greatly appreciate it.

The community here is pretty amazing and our PTF, which
is our parents, teachers and friends association do such a
great job with their fundraising efforts.

We were going to hit our stretch goal of twenty
five thousand dollars, which we surpassed by a little over that,
I agreed to sleep on the roof. And that happened
last night, and it was an eventful evening to say
the least.

So in your little tent, did you bring in some

The tent was just a couple of chairs.

Because I did a read aloud with my whole I
had a Google meet with students and I did two

all that was in the tent was a little space
heater that pumped out a little heat for me and
my sleeping bag and a few blankets and a pillow,
and I kind of roughed.

That's true camping. Oh yeah, oh yeah, that's not even
close to Oh. No, one question though, Mike.

It was a little chili up there.

I managed to the end of my sleeping bag poked
out of the tent and that was frost on there

made it through the night and wasn't terrible.

I got to tell you, an educator's job just never stops,

And it's probably the most rewarding profession around and you
get into it just for kids alone in their families.
And this is a pretty special place that I work
in and love coming to work every day.

And you went the distance, Mike, because you could have
gotten off the roof earlier, but you said no, I'm
going to stay until the kids show up for school
next morning, right.
Speaker 19 (22:43):
I welcome them all this morning from the top of
the roof and waved everybody and.

Say hello, God, you must be like a hero in
the school right now.
Speaker 8 (22:54):
Well, I don't know about that.

I just want to give back to the community that
that's done so much for me for the six years
that I've in here, and it's a great place to
be and it's the least I can do to give back.

Talk a little bit more about where the money's going.
What's it going to do, Mike.
Speaker 19 (23:08):
Yeah, the PTF here at Blanchard does an amazing job
fundraising and helping us out with a variety of enrichment
programs for every grade level here, field trips, and just
overall like culture building where they they'll buy us lunches,
they'll give us breakfast, they'll get coffee trucks here. We
might have an ice cream truck in the spring that's
donated by them. So they do an amazing job for

not just the students, but also for the staff here
and making sure that they're noticed and seen.

Well, you're probably gonna think twice about your next challenge. Huh, Yeah,
I got out there.

I might want to do something in the spring if.
