Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, it is time now on Mojo in the
Morning for am I the A Hole? If you ever
are worried that you're being an a hole or being
called out for something that you're doing, you can go
on the talkback mic on the iHeartRadio app. That's that
little thing that looks like a microphone right up there
where it shows our station and send us a voice note.

(00:20):
And here's one today.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
I make my friend pay me back when we go
out to eat for her part of the meal. Am
I the a hole for making my friend pay me
back when we go out?

Speaker 1 (00:29):
That doesn't seem like an Am I the a whole thing?
I think I need more to the story though, Yes, yeah, Serenity,
explain more about this. You make your friend pay you back?
And why are they thinking you're an a hole for that?

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Because like, we go out to eat like all the
time together, and I pay for both of us. I
pay for my friend's meal, but I use my mom's
credit card.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Okay, okay, yeah, I and your friend thinks you're an
because you asked them to pay you back.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Yeah, I meancause I feel like, well, I feel like
she should pay me back for her part of the meal.
Because you know, my mom agreed to pay for my
food and not my friends. Right if the roles were
reversed and she was the one paying for you, would
she want you to pay her back? I mean, I guess,

(01:24):
I don't know. I just feel like my mom never
specifically like said that she would pay for my friends.
So I feel like my mom would be mad at
me if she knew that.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Yeah, you're so your friend. I think your friend's the
a hole. We should have her on the phone for
her even thinking that you shouldn't be getting you know,
you shouldn't have to pay you back for this. It's
not like your friends taking advantage of you, for sure.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
And that's what I was going to say, is now
you notice this pattern, so don't pay anymore?

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Yeah, why do you not just put your you know whatever,
your mom's credit card down and tell her to put
her whatever form of payments.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Well, I mean, she's my friend and I love her
and all that, but yeah, I think it's starting to
add up, which is kind of frustrating.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
All right, this, by the way, this is actually an
opening and closed. We wait.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
Here's the thing though, how much money are we talking?
Because you are a hal if you've let it get
to like some crazy amount and you haven't paid your
mom back.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
I mean, you know, we're in college, so we're not
going to like all these crazy places that are super expensive.
But like it is like several times a week, so
you know.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Who knows, you know, it's wild ish. My son Luke
was rushing for his fraternity and when he was rushing
for his fraternity, I'd see all these bills on my
credit card and I'd be like, what the hell's all this?
It's an emergency credit card, not for him to use it.
When you rush the kids who you're rushing with, like

(02:57):
you're a pledge, they will make you buy them food
or go door dash basically or run and go get it.
And I was like paying for every kid that was
an older kid and theta Kai's food and I was like,
that has a bunch of bull crab. I'm not doing
that thing. They working assist. Yeah, But then Luke now
does it to the kids that are the newbies, so
he's getting his money back and I'm like, Luke, that

(03:18):
is such a bad thing to do. Are they ordering
a lot? Oh my god, you should see it. It's
like the craziness raising canes on there every five seconds
and stuff. I listen, Serenity, I'm going to tell you this.
I think that this is a done deal. Don't go
out with that friend unless that friend's putting their own
money down. What's up, Darryl High?

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Good morning, first time, long time on the phone.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
I was just wondering if Serenity is giving that money
back to her mom because otherwise, well, Kep kind of
asked that question. But Serenity, are you paying your mom
with the money? Are you pocketing the money that your
friend's giving you for the meals?

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Well, I mean she hasn't given me any thing. I
haven't talked to my mom about that.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
I mean, so your friend still hasn't paid you yet back?

Speaker 2 (04:07):
No, like nothing.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
I mean, you should pay your mond back whatever, but
it doesn't matter, like your friends should still.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
Be your friend should be paying back where that money
is going, Serenity, you should be paying your mom back
with that. What's up, Miranda High?

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Hi, I was just going to say, not an a hole.
I will do that when I go out to lunch
with my friends, Like I'll pick up the bill one
day and then the next time we go out, she
picks up the bill.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
A friend is never picking up the bill though, it's
only are a friend of freeloader?

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Miranda, do you ever have your friends choose a not
so equal form of payment restaurant? Like, do you ever
have it where?

Speaker 3 (04:47):
No? I mean we don't go high end. We're just
a bunch of moms wanting to go out for dinner
and a drink. So nothing crazy, but be like, well,
I got it last time, it's your turn.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
I used to have a friend though, that would always
choose a cheap place. They would or they would order
differently knowing that I was paying for it.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
What's up, Carly, high good morning? I could kind of
challenge and maybe Serenity could be the a hole because
only because did you guys talk about splitting the bill before?

Speaker 2 (05:16):
And now you're just expecting this of her, like if
you invite her out, like, what's the discussion?

Speaker 1 (05:21):
Does she need to talk about that? Carly? That that
that should be a given? Not necessarily, you're kidding.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
It just depends on the situation.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
I mean, I don't care how rich a parents Serenity has.
You shouldn't just assume that her parents are supporting you.
They didn't give birth to you. No, I don't think
that at all.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
But I think it's like I mean, for me, like
when I was younger with my friends, we just always
talked about it and just made sure we had like
my mom would.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
Always send me with money just in case.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
I think I can talk it to both ends of
my mom.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Going on there, Jesus shut for a second. Allright, wow,
all right, well, hey, Serenity, stop getting taken advantage of.
You're gonna get taken advantage of all your life if
you don't stop it right now from this friend.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Okay, okay, that's a good point.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
