Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome back to Eve's Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Yes, May the eighth, twenty twenty five, Thursday in the
Loulo area.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
It's gonna be a beautiful day.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Overcast, may get a little rain, but still gonna be
very very nice.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Temperature is gonna be moderate.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
I'm just being a meteorologist to let everybody know that
I'm on my p's and q's this morning. But welcome back.
This is Esports Radio. Poll numbers five zero two, five
seventy nine hundred. That's five zero two, five seven to
one seventy nine hundred. Sports Talk seven ninety. That's shen
behind the glass.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Got in.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Traffic is bad, Channing, you gotta fight it. You gotta
fight it. Shannon's behind the glass. I've got Anthony Eves
and myself. Anthony, welcome to the show. How are you.
I'm doing great this morning.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
How about yourself?
Speaker 2 (00:50):
I'm ready to row. I'm being honest with him. I'm
locked and loaded. I'm kind of pumped up. The bottom
line is this, I'm gonna have some cats stew early
this year, Anthony. I think I'm gonna get cat stewed.
I think I'm stirring the pot right now, Anthony, Early
this year. I'm just Anthony. I'm sitting here going what happened. Honestly,
(01:13):
I was at work yesterday working and at Simmons in
my phone rang and I answered my phone said hello,
you know of course it was wild Cat Ryn. He says,
do you see when this game's being played? I said,
I have no idea what you're talking about. And then
I changed the channel from whatever I was watching CNN
(01:33):
to a local channel and everyone was speaking about the game.
So Anthony, now that it's here and I've already got
Channing on the run, he's nervous. He doesn't know what
to do. What do you think, Anthony? The arch rivals
will meet much earlier than the year's past November of
the eleventh at the KFC Young Sinner tip off time,
(01:55):
which I want to read to people. Tip off time
and TV designation have not been determined for the Tuesday
Night Tilt.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
That's out of the career journal.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
So Anthony, just to preface it, I want people to
know I did scheduling for four years at Howard University
for coach Beard, and I got my hands slapped, you know,
the ruler on the hand quite a few times when
coach was teaching me the business of basketball and when
I was talking to people in scheduling games at inappropriate times.
(02:29):
Then as the head coach at North Carolina and t
for forever, I did the same thing, and I taught
my assistant coaches the business of basketball and how to
schedule games.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Anthony, I have no idea.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Why this game is being played on over the eleventh,
and that's why I read the people and I asked
Shannon before the show. TV designation have not been determined,
so TV did not do this game. A lot of
times television dictates college. We know that, but I don't
get it. So do you have any idea before I
(03:06):
start to get into the inertia of this, you have
any idea why you would think they played this early.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
No, I think you gotta have a something. They're trying
trying to buzz up a little bit, trying to mix
things up. You know, everybody does the old I want
to say the old fashioned way, but you know the
same way that you describe it. You know you want
to do it more strategically. But I think this so
early in their coaching career, especially with Pope being an
it and I say early in their careers not coaching,
but at these universities that they began at recently over
(03:35):
the last season. I think it's just more publicity just
for the state of Kentucky itself, for Louisville fans, Kentucky fans,
and I think even if either one of these teams
loses this games, it's still a good preparation game because
both of the teams are still trying to get to
that obviously national championship be haliper level, the kind of
in the rebuilding phases. Both of them did have phenomenal
(03:55):
seasons last year, but it's still I still want to
say it's still rebuilding a little bit, you know. The
Kentucky you know, they went above expectations that we expected
in the SEC after a rebuild year. Same thing with
even with coach PK. We didn't even think they were
going to be five hundred and they finished eighteen and two.
So now I think they're scheduling each other just because
(04:16):
they're coming off with both hot seasons, high expectations. This
year coming in it's just just I think TV views
money wise, that it's probably going to be one of
the highest we'll see for a couple of years because
of what they did last year.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
I mean, it was a great game last year, and Anthony,
both teams, yes, had phenomenal seasons last year.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
We told coach Kelsey.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
On the sports radio that I thought they'd win twelve games.
I don't feel I don't. I'm not going to ever
start to do that. And we see that there were
twenty six to twenty seven wins. I didn't think Coach Poke,
I said ten and eight when the season started. I
think that's exactly where they finished. But I didn't think
that with all the injuries. Anthony, I did not. So
(04:58):
when you throw in all injuries and guys, listen, you
know I love to be macho, and I'll tell you
playoff time you have to win, that's true. But I'm
gonna just be honest with you. The Calves are missing
three starters. They would beat Indiana Pacers if they were playing.
I mean, you missed that much. Well, the same thing
Anthony I said for Kentucky guys, they lost.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
A lot last year.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
It was a phenomenal year for coach Polk, crazy year
for the best conference in college basketball. For them to
do what they did. Same thing for Louisville. But I
just want to continue reading from the paper. I'm just
getting this out of the currier. I want people to
understand Louisville as of Wednesday morning, with seventh. They're talking
about in ESPN way too early rankings for twenty five
twenty six.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Let me say that again.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
ESPN's way too early rankings for twenty five twenty six.
Louisville as of Wednesday morning was seventh. Kelsey is pairing
five scholarship returners from his inauguration season with five newcomers.
Got me, we'll get into those players. Gona, we were
supposed to done it yesterday. Anthony, we'll do it to.
Kentucky was eleventh in ESPN's ranking, with both staring two
(06:04):
forty seven sports for the best incoming class of as
of Wednesday's morning. Wednesday morning, excuse me, your so both
teams high expectations. Okay, both teams super years last year, Kentucky.
Louisville gets to the tournament.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Dang it.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
That is an accomplishment. And I just want Louisville fans
to know that. I've told coach Kelsey that you know,
Cardinals are going to want you to win a national
championship next year. Just continue to grow the process. Continue
to do it the correct way. Do not let people
put pressure on you. Just do it the right way.
Coach Kelsey, which he's done, Coach Pope, guys advanced to
(06:44):
the second weekend. Shannon and I sat side by side,
and Indy advanced with all the injuries, all the things
that had gone on this year, so both teams had
super seasons. I still, like I've told you all, I've
got over fifteen years over of scheduling college games where
I actually scheduled games. I scheduled pay games, I scheduled
(07:06):
rivalry games. I did not have to do it. At
University of Louisville there was an athletic director that did
that for Coach Crumb and his staff, which I was
part of Coach crumbs staff. I did not have to
do that. But I have no idea. Anthony, guys, when
I got to call, Ron asked me, I said, no way,
(07:26):
I said. The first thing I asked was was it
TV based? TV runs college athletics. Well, that's why I
read you all the paper. I haven't had a chance
to confirm, but I'm going to trust the courier wasn't
TV based. Why Why would two top ten teams want
to open the ste up. Now, two things, Anthony, I
(07:50):
want people to know Coach Polk scenes. I haven't spoke
between personally scenes and I'm going to this year, guys,
I'm going to reach out well. Kept seems to be
such a nice guy that, in my opinion, he's being
taken advantage of. The first piece was the Saint John's
(08:13):
slipping in instead of UCLA and the classic that's been
going on for forever. If you remember, Anthony, Frank and
I went to the game when it was held in
New York City. I want to say what two years ago, no,
three years ago, Frank and I went when the game
was held in Madison Square Garden.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
We went to the game.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
UCLA was playing and we watched Kentucky and everyone. It
was a great atmosphere. But they let Saint John's jump
in place of UCLA. And my only thought is this
for Kentucky fans. We've got quite a few that listen.
Kentucky has everything to lose, nothing to gain. Coach Betina Wins,
(08:54):
I like Saint John's. They didn't go anywhere in the tournament.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
They haven't done anything in a long time. They had
a great seasons, you're in the Big East and got
beat and went home, period, point blank. Let's don't forget it,
and don't forget who sent him home. His name was
Swaggy Cow. Yes, that is my friend. I'm sorry, but
Anthony Swaggy Cown, Arkansas sent him home first weekend. So yes,
great season, great turnaround coach Bettina, great But in my opinion,
(09:21):
Kentucky has things to lose, not Saint John's. They have
everything to gain. I would have been a no go
on that game. Now, a lot of people say, Jerry,
you say you want to see great games. I do,
I really do, and I agree with that.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
But.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
I still don't care Anthony. Kentucky did not gain from
Saint John's jumping in.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
To the tournament. Nothing.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
They have everything to lose my opinion. But people call
me tell me if you think I'm wrong. Next Anthony.
Moving the game to the opening game, the opening game
of the season, got me.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
On the road again.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Sitting here as a person that is scheduled games, I
would say my opinion that if I was Kentucky, I
would have said no, go.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
To the eleventh of November.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
I would have said, I'd like to stay where we've
always played that December eighteen, nineteen twenty twenty first twenty
second area. Both teams have had a chance to play,
coaches have gotten to fill out their teams. I would
have just been more comfortable if I was the road team.
I mean, we know that Kentucky's up forty to seventeen
(10:46):
in the rivalry. Kentucky's warned Louiville out the last ten years.
We understand that. I think our last win was twenty twenty.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
But I would have said no to that.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
So this is two games that, in my opinion, coach
Polke has said yes to Anthony that I would have vetoed.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
I said not that I wouldn't have played Louisville. I
would have played Louisville.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
Of course, I just wouldn't have been in the opening night.
I would have said no the Saint John's game. I'm
sure that can tell you wouldn't mind playing Saint John's.
But I would have still liked to have had that
in a home and home. That's all to where I
had an opportunity. I wouldn't mind to play Saint John's.
If they wanted to play with a home and home,
I would have done that. I was coach Polk, but
(11:30):
I would have wanted a home and home. I would
not have liked to had a series where Rick Betino
gets to jump in neutral site and get to play here.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
I would have said no again. So Anthony to me,
I think coach needs to start to tell people no,
like my dad used to say a long time ago.
I hope it doesn't hurt your feelings. It doesn't hurt mine.
I would have said no.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
So and now that you've heard what I thought, what
do you think about the two games? That has now
made me say, coach, you got to say no. Do
you think or no think? Do you think Kentucky should
play anybody anywhere? Because they're University of Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
That's a hard topic to say, play anybody anywhere, because
at the University of Kentucky in essentially kind of have
to because if you go out there and you start
ducking games left and right, then we'll be like, oh,
he's scared to play competition early in the season. He
doesn't want to mess up his record. He just kind
of wants to coast through until the SEC or later
in the conference, which I hate to say it, it
(12:29):
kind of looks like the IU football schedule last year.
It's just a big coast walk until you get to
the games that matter and you're not prepared, then you lose.
You still make it into the tournament. It still probably
be a top twenty five team even if they didn't
play these teams early on. But I think in a
sense that what Mark Pope is trying to do, you
gotta play some of these better teams, regardless if you
lose or not. Due to my team, we schedule ranked
(12:51):
games like the first game of the year.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
Every year.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
We always go to Mallley Invitational or we go to
some other tournament up in New York, and we play
a top twenty five team. And honestly, the last couple
of years we've lost. We lost Kentucky, We've lost a
couple other teams, and it just it doesn't necessarily direct
higher season is going to be Duke, does it all.
We come out every year and lose our for one
(13:14):
of our first five games. It's it's almost like it's
almost like clockwork. They still go down to their Duke
was still the number two team in the nation when
they lost. They lost in the final four, and you
know it happens, that's Kentucky. You kind of have to.
It's kind of almost in your it's almost kind of
in your bloodline and your DNA.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
Now you gotta play.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
A little because if you don't, then.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
But you have to take into consideration the conference they
played in last year, which is probably going to be
the same this year. Anthony had fourteen or thirteen teams
in the NCAA tournament. So as a coaching now, but
even though last year we.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
No, do you think there's gonna be fourteen teams from
the SEC again? Do you think that?
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Do you not so much?
Speaker 4 (13:58):
That not that before? Before you I can't say fourteen.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
You never say that good. Right, I'll never say that good.
But I'm looking at ten.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
That I like.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
Is do you think the ACC big in the Big
twelve are going to be that bad?
Speaker 5 (14:12):
Again?
Speaker 3 (14:13):
That's the real question. Now the SEC gonna be that good?
Is the ACC and Big Tool gonna be that bad
to where the secre have to have fourteen teams?
Speaker 1 (14:20):
Great question.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
That's why, Anthony, when I'm looking at this two forty
seven rankings, a lot of the teams that have improved
again we're in the SEC.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
That's the only thing, Anthony, No.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
I would never say that a Conference will have fourteen
teams in the NCAA tournament. No, And I won't say
that for the SEC next year. But I'm telling you
what I see right now. I see ten, which is
another crazy good year. Fourteen was just phenomenal. But I
see ten in the SEC. And when you say the ACC, Anthony,
I haven't seen the improvement in Pittsburgh's the teams that
(14:54):
are usually looking at that NC state.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
They have a new coach, so we're gonna have to
see what he does with Wade.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
But I haven't seen the players through the portal, Anthony
come in yet, just following, following way too early to
forty seven sports, so I want everybody to know.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
And then I both just speculating.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
But if you look at two forty seven sports, Anthony,
I don't see.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
The ACC vastly improving. I don't.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
That's scary. I don't see the SEC with fourteen teams.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
I do not.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
But I'm chill team at nine ten right now, So
not fourteen but nine ten.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
My only issue is this, I don't mind.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
What you say. I just would like for coach Pope
to have had more decision. I would have liked to
heard him say no to some dates. You've heard it
happen all the time. You've heard Kyle say no, You've
heard Patinos say no. I mean to where they don't
mind playing, but not that date. So I would like
to see who else Kentucky's playing early since they're going
(15:54):
to open up with louisvill who's going to be game?
Speaker 1 (15:56):
Are they going to have Kate walks? Which they should? Guys,
you scared your wins.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
Everybody he wins in November December, everybody, so.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
Even but even even coached count Patino where they saying
no to games earlier on in their career at a
new school. And I'm not saying Rick Patino now his
first year at Saint John's and the coach count his
first year at Arkansas and they've been coaching for twenty years.
I'm talking about earlier Mark Pope. He has been coaching,
but he hasn't been coaching at this level. He coached
at you you talked about, then he was at BYU
(16:26):
for may you know, maybe two or three years. Then
he's at Kentucky. So it's like he's coached college basketball, yes,
but has he coached at this high This hasn't magnified level. No,
nobody knew where coaching. You know about really about Mark
Pope when he's at Utah Valley, I played against him.
I knew Mark Pope because he knew.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
You, So I known about him. Since then, we.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
Obviously knew about about BYU and by started making getting
better making those runs. But really, before then, Mark Pope
wasn't ever Mark Pope wasn't ever talked about. People were
still talking about Rick Patino when he was at They
talked about Rick Patino more at IONA than they did
Mark Pope at BYU.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
So what you're saying is that now that he is
at established university and he's establishing himself as a top
tier or no question coach, that we will start to
see him have more discretion you think.
Speaker 5 (17:09):
With the sketch yes.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
When it's like when you're first starting off on the
job and somebody asks you to do something you don't
want to just say no to everything, You kind of
have to say yes at first, just get your feet wet,
just to go out there and be like I did
it before. Our team didn't. Maybe we didn't respond as
well as we thought. Maybe we come out and we respawn, well,
we win all the games, and we go into conference.
I think it's all about how the your team responds.
(17:34):
They come out and they win games, and they do
well against these hard competition games. I don't think he'll
change it because he sees success from doing that. If
they come out there and they get their head beat
in three or four seasons in a row, he's going
to change that because he didn't go out there. He's like, oh,
I'm doing is hurting my team. The athletic department will
see that, and the school will see that.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
Okay, I got you. Well, we have to wait and see.
We got a call it, let's take it. We got
my man, Ryan, Ryan, Welcome to the sports radio.
Speaker 4 (17:58):
Are you fine?
Speaker 1 (18:00):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (18:01):
Let me jump in here in the middle of list.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
I don't know what we're talking about here, guys. Uh.
Speaker 5 (18:07):
Last year Kentucky played Duke in a neutral site. Guns,
I go on the road.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
Question on the road.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
They played the CBS Ohio State, Uh, North Carolina. These
are all pre pre conference games. What are we talking
about play anybody anywhere? They're not already doing that. They
played they are, That's what we're saying.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
They beat.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Yeah, that's what.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Yeah, yeah, no, that's what we said. Right, We're saying
that he had great success, But do you think that's
something that he wants to do all the time. No,
he'd beat Anthony said that he'd.
Speaker 5 (18:46):
Be right away.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
Well here you you followed it closer than I think.
Speaker 5 (18:56):
He defeated more top fifteen teams than any team in
the history college basketball last year.
Speaker 4 (19:01):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
We're not computing that.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
We're not talking about.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
Yes, do would you have still played your arch rival
first game? We're not talking about if you won or lost?
That was never he has won. And he said they defeated.
Speaker 5 (19:17):
I'm talking about Jerry before the conference. Well, yeah, so
why are we talking about should he duck teams or
should you do this?
Speaker 2 (19:28):
He never No, no, no, no, no, We're just talking
about we're talking about the first game of the season.
Kentucky's never duck people. They've always played the toughest schedule.
We've said that, and he said they defeated Duke. In
this conversation, we're talking about playing your arch rival on
the road first game.
Speaker 4 (19:43):
Let me ask you this.
Speaker 5 (19:44):
Let me ask you this. M Can you imagine the
I'm doing this to the Duke North Carolina rivalry? No,
it shows you, This shows you exactly what they think.
The Lower Kentucky so called Rivalry he used to always
be on a Saturday in December on national television CBS,
and it was after the teams played enough games to
(20:05):
establishing a good chemistry.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 5 (20:08):
So no, this is ridiculous, is that?
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Okay? Now that's what that's what That's what we're really
talking about. Exactly, that's what we're talking about. Now. We
weren't talking about Kentucky Ducky that.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
Now you've gotten to the point that I was trying
to get Anthony to allude to.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
Why would you play a game over?
Speaker 2 (20:26):
I read the first thing I want people to hear
again before we get to break Ron. That's why I read.
Tip off time and t TV designation have not been
determined for Tuesday nights till so. It wasn't television, it
wasn't we're waiting to see who's going to air it.
Why would you play the game? In my experience, I
would have never played the Rivalry game the first game
(20:48):
of the year. That's what we were trying to get
across Kentucky Ducky people.
Speaker 5 (20:53):
The Kentucky added Indiana back to the schedule may have
a little something to do with it.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
But as far as you do, you have a date
on that game.
Speaker 5 (21:02):
This game was more important than the Indiana I.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Agree, no, no question. I don't understand. It's seven to
twenty six. Stay there, run, let's go to break. We're
gonna come back. I want people to understand I have
scheduled for fifteen years collegiately. I have no idea why
they would have opening game Kentucky Louis. I just have
no idea. Is the sports radio will be back after
(21:26):
the break. Welcome back to East Sports Radio seven twenty nine.
I'm gonna have a quick segment. I got Anthony and
the ease, I've got Ryn. Here's the deal, guys. So
I don't know if we were describing it incorrectly, but
we were not definitely Ryan talking about Kentucky Ducky because
they play everyone. They had the most top fifteen wins
(21:48):
of any team of the country. It was we're talking
about first game of the season. So I went to
the Kentucky schedule. What the little that they have of
and what I have found out is no Vember twenty
fourth Fry Exhibition. I see Purdue, then I see that's
October twenty fourth, excuse me, November the eleventh, louis What
(22:09):
at the YOUM Center, November eighteenth, Michigan State, New York City,
December fifth Gonzaga and Nashville, Tennessee, and December twentieth, which
used to be around that Louisville game, Kentucky versus Saint John's,
and the State Farm Classic in Atlanta. So, guys, that
(22:33):
is what Kentucky has up posted right now. I think
every team there was a ranked of team in last
year's Top twenty so far. So the question is ron
the first game, not the Kentucky Ducks anyone, but the
first game.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
I just don't.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
I don't understand why louisvill would do it. I don't
understand why either team would would say yes to that date.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
I just don't. That's the question.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
It's it's ridiculous. Uh, they've moved this game approximately six
weeks and you know, Jerry your you're basketball player and coach.
Teams don't even have a chemistry established at that point
of the season. I mean, uh, all these new kids
coming in out of the portal and and and put
(23:21):
your new freshman in whatever. I mean, it takes a
few games.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
I would, right, guys, I would have said.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
No, he starts moving games like this around, and uh,
he's allowed. I can't understand why you used to lay
back to the CBS Sports Classic. Uh let same time, man,
that part I don't get Listen. I'll never say Rick
(23:48):
Catino only a great basketball coach. I've told you that, Jerry,
But I'm not. I'm not worried about re establishing him
at the top.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
Of the exactly and I agree.
Speaker 5 (23:58):
I agree comes as far as I'm concerned.
Speaker 1 (24:03):
But Kentucky in that game, well, if.
Speaker 5 (24:07):
He dropped some of these games, he's going to start
taking some.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Heat for it, then yes, I would have taken the
Saint John's game. There's nothing to gain for Kentucky. My
opinion and.
Speaker 5 (24:17):
Your is right. When all the football playoff predictions are
starting to come out, you still got three or four
football games left it. In fact, this game is going
to be three weeks or better. In front of the
lois of Kentucky football game. It's ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Tuesday night. I know, I can't believe. I just can't
great point.
Speaker 5 (24:47):
He's valuing the game.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
The rivalry.
Speaker 5 (24:51):
I mean, Oliver hadn't been what it's supposed to be
the last ten fifteen years, but they're just destroying it
in my opinion.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
I appreciate your call.
Speaker 5 (25:01):
Great point about.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
So Anthony Shannon, Guys, I don't I just I need clarification.
I see the date. I just don't understand why. I
just can't figure. And I did not throw into the
college football playoffs, Anthony, I didn't go into that where
(25:25):
teams could be.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
There's just quite a bit. It's just an interesting date.
Speaker 2 (25:31):
I'd like to hear an athleg director that Josh heard,
or Mitch Barnhart tell me why that. I think I'm
gonna have to call Josh and get clarification because it
is a weird date.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
At seven thirty four, we're gonna get to our second break,
and then when we come back, we've got to talk
a little bit about these NBA games. Is the sports
radio phone numbers five zero, two, five seven, seventy nine hundred.
We'll talk to you in a minute. Welcome back to
EVE Sports Radio seven thirty seven. On May the eight Thursday,
beautiful day outside.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
Anthony.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
Great points brought up about the football season, Anthony and scheduling,
and we got us another caller, But what do you
think an now that football season is truly going to
be in full swing, Anthony, and it's going to be
what do you think the points Ryan brought up?
Speaker 3 (26:20):
No, I mean, I agree it's a valid point. I
don't know. That's a lot to process. I mean, I
don't know. I really don't know why they moved up
the game so far. I really don't, But I.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Really I don't got we're not talking about the rivalry.
We're not talking about either team. Ducky Kentucky played everybody
last year. We know that Louisville. I said, Coach Kelsey's
schedule was really competitive early and I thought he was
playing teams that were a little too strong early last year.
But he did the same thing. But this is ridiculous.
So we're gonna bring our next caller on it. Then
(26:51):
I'm gonna read out to you all November eighth, twenty
twenty five's football schedule, just so that you can hear
what's going on around that time, playing to welcome to
the sports radio.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
How are you, hey, I'm good Jerry, Good morning you guys.
And I'd like to make a quick point on on
this topic, real quick. But first of all, I wanted
to I wanted to flip back to Monday, Jerry, when
you was again for about one hundred time, talking out
of your mind, trying to bait the world champion into
some kind of physical altercation in the ring. And I'm
(27:21):
certainly glad that you've got a doubt again. Have have
gained your senses, Jerry, because Shannon would absolutely slap you
around like a government heal, and we don't want that
and dogs mout. I think you know Shannon is a
lot bigger than that that he would take advantage of
(27:43):
such small prey as a person like you. So I'm
glad that you moved on from that because I'm trying
to save you from yourself, Jerry. But you're you're writing
checks there you can't cash about physicality with the world champion.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
But here's all I want people to know.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
Everyone has seen a rag doll and their dog's mouth.
That's Shannon in my mouth. I'm just gonna be shaking
him around and throwing him around.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
Is that right.
Speaker 5 (28:08):
I'm not gonna step into the ring with you because
I can't advocate for for elderly abuse, so I can't.
Speaker 1 (28:15):
I can't hit you in the wrong with Jerry.
Speaker 4 (28:20):
Well, it's like Garry, Jerry, I think it's talking to
another topic. I'm just trying to save you from yourself. Yet,
let's do that.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
Okay, let's do that.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
I think I will, because honestly, I had a guy
who lives in Ladis Shannon named Jimmy Beverly. Jimmy says, Jerry,
I can't help you with that one. I said, Jimmy,
what he said? I can't help you with that when
you'll be on your own, Jerry, I said, oh, well,
I think I had to leave that one alone.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
Also. So here's the deal, guys, But that is pretty good, Shanny.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
You did like that, though, didn't You've seen a rag
doll in a dog's mouth, Shanning, just get better.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
Watch out, Shennon. Here's the deal. Let's move on. November
the eight, twenty twenty five.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
Landon Anthony lsu Is at Alabama, Florida is at Kentucky.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
Let me give you.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
Another good Texas A and M at Missouri, Indiana and
Penn State's gonna be a good game. Washington at Wisconsin,
Cal at Louisville, Florida State at Clemson. That's the week before, guys,
got me the week before.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
The Louisville game.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
Now let's go to the week after Louisville plays on
a Tuesday, that's Saturday before the Saturday after that. Guys,
some of the games that are going to be played
Oklahoma at Bama, Texas at Georgia.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
Okay, Kentucky's got a cakewalk. They've got Tennessee Tech at Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
Florida Ole Miss will be a good game, South Carolina,
Texas A and M will be a great game. Let's see,
I'm trying to find Louisville's opponent.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
For that week. The following week, you know, for some
reason I'm not finding.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
But guys, that's what's going on in college football, and
Louisville and Kentucky. You're going to play a basketball game
stuck in the middle of that. That just again, I
don't understand. Do you have any reasoning for it blended
at all?
Speaker 4 (30:22):
Jerry, Well, Jerry, I think primarily at the end of
the day.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
Oh oh, I almost missed it blended, hold of blends,
excuse me?
Speaker 1 (30:31):
And Anthony. Louisville plays Kentucky Tuesday the eleventh, correct, Friday,
November fourteenth, Clemson at Louisville. So now, guys, look at
the games that are going on football games, big games
around this.
Speaker 4 (30:48):
What do you think, well, Jerry, First of all, I
think a lot of it has to do with a
lot of the luster of the so called rivalry is
no more. You know, U of L. I don't you know,
Kentucky has just dominated this and I know, you know,
it's still you know, got the fan base and everything
(31:09):
that really gets into it. But it was always the
way they scheduled it in the past was it was
a great thing around the holidays for everybody. You know,
it was like a like a third or fourth Christmas
back in the day when it was so hot. But
it's lost a lot of the luster, Jerry, because U
of L has been so bad and everything that's gone
on over there behind the scenes. And I think the
(31:30):
network the reason why they want to do it is
it's kind of like an introductorial offer for the start
of the season. It's kind of like a precursor or
a pre test of it to get kind of like
get basketball like from its dormancy out out of the
off season. But I do think that a lot of
it is the scheduling of that game has become a
(31:50):
second thought of the network because it's just it's not
the hot bed topic rivalry that it was. Let's face it,
I mean, when you get the thief kicked in every year,
it's not a rivalry no more.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
Yeah, they're right, but it's still a rivalry.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
And Louisville really improved, and it was a very good
game last year at Reperena.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
I stayed for the whole thing. I never do that.
It was a really good game.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
And I already read though, blending that television has not
even been designated. They don't even have a time or
a station who's carrying it. So TV did not dictate
the movement of this game. That's the only thing that's
what makes this weird. If I could have read instead
of saying tip off time and TV designation have not
yet been determined for the Tuesday night til, I would
(32:34):
agree with you if I would have said CBS moved
the game, but that's not what happened.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
Stacking point, well.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
Louis It played well last year, blanded, so I would
think the rivalry would be hotter. Now. It was a
good game last year, it really was.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
It was it was Jerry, But you know, at the
end of the day, I'm curious to see what they're
going to play in that slot because I think that
windle there between Christmas and New Year's is, you know,
there's a lot of people off work. Even if you
run the game field d night, it's still you know,
it's still a paulk atmosphere. It's it's a gathering, it's
it's a but to me, it's lost a lot of
(33:08):
the luster. I mean, I remember people would clamor for
that date to watch that game, and I mean, they've.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Got December twentieth, they've got Saint John's now, so Deceber twentieth.
I just read on Kentucky Saint John's twentieth or twenty
first somewhere in there. Don't be exact with me, but
I just read that that the Saint John's game is
usually when BLEU, when Kentucky played, I would have John's game,
not because Kentucky's ducking anybody. I just wouldn't have taken
(33:35):
the Saint John's game.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
You know, to me, that has zero to do with
this Jerry. That's not even a thought in my process,
because Kentucky has never ducked anybody. I mean, they they
played a brutal schedule every year, and U of L's
played a good schedule every year. But uh, you know
coach Pope, Pope and everything. Uh you know they have
more to me to hurt at that time than they
(33:58):
do at the start of the season. And the reason
I say that is, uh, you can look back if
if Globell does win that game, you can look back
in February or March or whatever and say, hey, you
know what, we didn't have a chemistry. We weren't. We
weren't who we are now the first week or two
of the season. So I and I'm like Denny Crime
back in today, Jerry, I love playing hard games early
(34:18):
and you know when you played at U of L.
That was the philosophy of coach Crime. He never worried
about early loss, you know, to get better, but he did.
There's a money motivation, Anthony. But I hope, I hope
y'all have.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
A great point.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
Yeah, YouTube planning, Yeah, take you telling me leave Shannon alone.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
I'll leave Shannon alone. Guys.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
I'm not going to bully Shannon. I'm getting bully calls.
I'm not gonna buy anymore Shannon. No more bullying Shennon.
On the radio, Anthony, Saint John's and Kentucky are December
the twentieth, that is Saturday in Atlanta.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
Do you think that game moved the Louisville game, Anthony.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
Uh No, that's hard to tell. I have no idea.
I'm really not sure. I don't know if it is
or not. As of right now, I'd probably just say no,
but it can change.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
I mean, it looks to me, Anthony, that the Saint
John's game bumped the Louisville game. It's scheduled, it's December
the twentieth, It's on Kentucky's schedule right now. They're playing
in Atlanta. The time has not been announced, but the
game is scheduled for December the twentieth, and usually Louisville
and Kentucky played around that time frame of the season
basketball wise. So it looks to me that the Saint
(35:36):
John's game bumped us. Being honest with you, and I
wouldn't have taken the game anyway. But we're gonna move
on from that. So let's get to before we get
to our last break. Some of these programs. Boston Celtics,
they're in trouble, Cleveland Cavaliers, they're in trouble. Is it
over for him?
Speaker 3 (35:54):
No, it's not over you still got five games left
in the series, but it's gonna be an uphill climb.
Just know that much MH.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
Both teams are giving up twenty point leads, Anthony. Both
teams Cleveland did in the second game. Boston has now twice.
I Boston may be in serious trouble, Anthony. I really
believe that. I don't know if they think that they
can win their style of play. Anthony is now time.
I still yes, o case he routed Denver, but Joke
(36:28):
is still the best player in the league. Shake Gildigs,
Alexander's probably the second best player in the league. Got me,
but the low post game is a factor. And you
all will watch Game three in Denver. Joke is gonna
be a factor.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
It will not be a route. Joke is gonna be
a factor. They're gonna have to deal with him in
that pain. He's gonna create double teams. He's gonna get
easy shots for his teammates. It'll be a much more
competitive game. But his teams porzingis for Boston, Anthony. He
wants to shoot more jump shots than dunks, to play
on the perimeter more than post up. And they've put
(37:03):
themselves in a bad situation. I think they're done. I
think the physicality of the Knicks is going to beat them,
and I think Boston is gonna have to change how
they play. I think they're gonna have to get low
post players. I think everyone will start to develop a
low post player at least one. And I told you
Carl Towns has been going in the post for the Knicks,
(37:25):
and he can do that. He's a big, strong kid.
He shoots the three at an exceptional rate, but he
can do that. They have a player that can and
will do that. I think every team needs one. Now
Cleveland series, are they dead? Are their players coming back?
Is what they What I see is what I get,
which means it could be a sweep. What's going to
happen with Cleveland? Are any of those guys Hunter coming back?
Speaker 3 (37:50):
I don't know the extensity of all their injuries. I
know Garland had a tow injury. Mobley and Hunter, I'm
not one hundred percent sure what's going with them. I'd
be surprised if they set out the entire series reas
unless there's just a severe injury, so I could see
them returning. I think they probably either return to Night
or the return in Game four, one of the two.
It's like kind of the same thing with Steph Curry.
Steph Curry is supposed to be out for a week,
(38:11):
so this return is supposed to be in game four,
but you know that's always to be determined. They always
say a week. Realistically, the Warriors went out there and
win a three in the series. I don't think Steph
Curry would come back in the series. He would sit
out longer than a week. But if they're down, if
it's a two to two series, or if it's a
three to two series and they're going on the road
or they're at home, I feel like players kind of
push through some injuries to try to play, but if
(38:34):
it's too severe, I think they just have to sit
out just because of you know, obviously a lot of
them have to do age except for Mobley, and isn't
an age.
Speaker 1 (38:44):
They're all in their twenties.
Speaker 3 (38:45):
But for Steph Curry it's a little bit different age.
His will be a little bit longer actually than people expect.
I think Mobley and Garland and Hunter can come back
within the next game or two. Realistically, gotcha, well.
Speaker 2 (38:59):
And we're gonna get to break. We're already at seven
point fifty. We'll come back. We're going to finish with
a few things. I'm gonna have you read something that
I sent you. I'm just gonna make another point about
college athletics in the NFL. This is Eve Sports Radio
for numbers five zero, two, five seven, one, seventy nine hundred.
We'll talk to you in a minute. Welcome back to
(39:19):
the Sports Radio seven fifty four. The show is blown
by Anthony.
Speaker 1 (39:24):
Great job, like always, I'll have you read that tomorrow, Anthony.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
I just have another point for Kentucky fans that is
not on their schedule that I'm looking at online. December thirteenth,
Kentucky plays Indiana. That's a Saturday, Shannon. Do you know
where that game's being played? Is that in Indy?
Speaker 1 (39:43):
I think it's a rop. I think the first game
is okay, okay, excellent.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
So yes, Kentucky has got quite a few quality games
this year already scheduled. So Saint John's is the twentieth,
Indiana's December thirteenth, Gonzaga's December fifth, Michigan State is November eighteenth,
and Louisville is November the eleventh. So coach Polk definitely
has his work cut out for him. That's for sure now, Anthony.
(40:09):
As for Golden State and Curry, I want people to know,
with that hamstring injury and you can't rush it. That
hamstring will not allow you to rush it. I hope
it was minor because he did jog off in the
bowels of the stadium. They showed him running to the
locker room, which is a good thing because if you
really pull your hamstring, Anthony, it could be months. I'm
(40:32):
being honest with you. Hamstring injuries are so ginger because
you never know when you're gonna pull it again. They're
hard to rush, so we have to wait and see.
But a lot of great games, guys. I know I
do not watch the NBA regular season, but Anthony, the
playoffs have been phenomenal. They're competitive, they're physical, they've been
great games, and I think it's something that you should
(40:54):
if you're not watching, you should watch because you're gonna
see the best.
Speaker 1 (40:57):
Of the best.
Speaker 2 (40:58):
And everybody's got Kentucky players everywhere, Anthony. We've got Donovan
Mitchell my Louisville Cardinals, but if you start to look,
they're Kentucky players on every roster in the NBA. So
A lot of people could be yelling at me saying, see,
Kyle should have one more championships.
Speaker 1 (41:14):
Y'all can still leave my man calalone.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
But you've got a lot of Kentucky Wildcats playing guys
and playing at a very very high level. So I
wait to see what Murray does, Anthony. I think Murray
gives it to Shay Gildis. Game three, What do you
think you think Jamal Murray about? I think he bounces back.
I think he has a huge hit, a thirty plus
night on ok see game three?
Speaker 1 (41:36):
What do you think?
Speaker 3 (41:39):
I guess the only time will tell. I mean he
has forty three point games in this first series, so
we'll see how he bounced back in game three. Because
last night was it was rough for the entire team.
It wasn't just one person that was yes, no question.
Speaker 1 (41:52):
Okay, see let people know that, Uh, don't sleep on us,
that's all.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
Don't sleep on ok see. Very good team, guys, God willing.
We'll be back tomorrow. Have a fantastic day, Anthony.
Speaker 1 (42:05):
Everyone put a smile.
Speaker 2 (42:06):
On someone's face and we'll talk to you all tomorrow.
Great job, Channon, see y'all later.
Speaker 1 (42:11):
Bye bye,
