Welcome to our two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by
Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
All right, welcome back, Ryan Lem and Drew Franklin, Shannon
the Dude here at Irish Hills Golf Course in Mount Sterling.
They've got their sixty second annual Gate City Invitational coming
up this weekend. On Thursdays their shootout, but on Friday
they've got a scramble that you could still get in.
Deadline is tomorrow. If you want to get in, you
can still you can make the scramble, and then of
course Saturday Sunday is the big tournament. And Drew, you've
(01:26):
played here so kind of courses here.
Speaker 5 (01:28):
I just like the I talked about the course of a minute.
But I like the small towns that have these tournaments
that have been here forever, has been here since like
nineteen sixty two. Madisonville's got one that's lasting forever. I'm
sure there's some all over the state where it's a
it's a big deal of the city. I think they
were there spots still in the big tournament too, not
just to scramble.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Okay, so can you come and still get in the
scramble and the tournament Saturday Sunday, Shannon, they didn't invite
you and me to play.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
That's probably a good thing. Yeah, we'd beat better off,
just you know, being like the beer cart guys go
to the.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Ghost restaurant next across the parkway. Then this is from
the Avision glass text machine. Ask Mike Barnhard who called in,
to call back and do some impressions. He does a
great Kaywood Ledford and a Tubby Smith and almost anybody
you ask him to do, it's amazing. Well now I
want to Now I want him to call back and
hear it.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
I feel like you do a good Tubby.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
That's my Tubby.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
You make him sound like dumb and dumber.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Well, it's how you used to laugh.
Speaker 5 (02:22):
It's not a flattering impersonation. It's Gerald, Gerald, Eric, just
Tubby like this this.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
B it's dead on. I always dead on Tubby Tubby. No,
I don't think I have. Here's another one on the
visit a glass tex machine. Famous UK athlete from Mount Sterling,
Charles Chili Ishmael is that right, played football and basketball
at UK in the early sixties. Longtime coach in Montgomery
County coach Ishmael, So there we want to go. Mention
(02:51):
that eight five nine two eighth two two eight seven
got some phone lines open on this ask anything Tuesday.
Uh here at Mount Sterling, Moco. You know they uh
is Lee Wise from here? Her kids played here, she
lives here now. She played college basketball UK in like
the seventies and she was like Pharah Fawcett. Oh, I'm
(03:11):
not kidd you. She had this long, wavy blonde hair
and when she was playing and kept it played with
it down like not up. She played with that hair down.
Speaker 5 (03:21):
Well, I thought Robbie had the best hair in Moco.
Which which hair is the best? Now?
Speaker 2 (03:24):
I think Lee Wise is gonna put try to put
a stop to his domination as the mullet champion.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
I don't know, man, I'm looking at that mullet. It's
from here. It's got like a shine or like an
aura around the mullet.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
You know it's Uh. I want to go back to
Reed Shepherd. He was named to the All Summer League team,
the five man team. That was a no brainer. He
was the superstar of the Summer League. Wasn't he a soon?
Speaker 5 (03:50):
I didn't see the voting assume that was a unanimous pic.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
That had to be And how could you not vote
him on the All Summer League first five member first team?
Speaker 5 (03:58):
That and Rob his first game in Summer League didn't
go well. That's when we bet on him to score
a lot, So that was our fault. We'll take that
one case our Kurston. But he finished very strong on
Saturday with a huge game from Minnesota to get them
excited moving forward. A lot of the other UK guys
they popped in here and there, but obviously those two
were the big stars. Antonio Reeves signed a contract point yeah. Sorry,
don't don't want to cross off your list, but more
(04:20):
big news from that draft class that we just sent off.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
So is a three year deal. I believe with the
Pelicans that he signed, so I don't have it front
of him. I think it was three year deal for
Fero point five.
Speaker 5 (04:29):
I think, so.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Good for him. You know that all those teams that
passed on him, I think may end up regretting that
down the road.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Channon, I mean, Reeves is gonna be Are you talking
about Reeves?
Speaker 6 (04:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (04:38):
Yeah, I think he is going to be, uh a
standout player for somebody. I don't know how long his
career is gonna go. You and I were talking about this,
I think a couple of weeks ago on the pre Show,
Like out of those three guys, Dillingham, Shepherd, Reeves. Which
of those three do you think is gonna have the
longest NBA career? I think you and I both picked Dillingham.
But Reeves is going to be a good player for
(04:59):
somebody because.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
He could do the one thing everybody wants. They won
a shooter, and he's proven he's a knockdown shooter.
Speaker 5 (05:05):
He can knock it down the three point shot. But
I don't think we give him enough credit for he
can do it really at every level. He's got that floater.
I mean he really when he came back for the
second year at UK. Maybe he had it the year before,
but he added a lot to his offense and that's
why he's got that three year deal. And I think
the Pelicans are gonna be very happy they.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Have him now. Also on the UK basketball front, Jasper Johnson,
who was on this show about a month ago, visited Kentucky,
visited Alabama, visited North Carolina, kind of made a surprising
announcement of the week injury where he announced he was
going to you know, because he had played with Woodford
County on their summer league team. A lot of people,
including myself, thought, well, he's going to play for Woodford
(05:43):
County his senior year, announced that he was going to
go play for Overtime Elite next year. That's where Rob
Dillingham played, That's where Alex Sar played, who was just
the number one pick. What were your thoughts when you
saw that Jasper Johnson was going to play it Overtime Elite.
Speaker 5 (05:59):
I mean, if that's what he wants to do, good
for him. I wish him luck, but that probably isn't
good for Kentucky and recruiting. I think it would have
been a little easier to have him in the backyard
playing Woodford County, surrounded by all the Kentucky fans that
might be recruiting him every single day around there. So
keeping him out of the Bluegrass I think is gonna
be even harder to rell him in. I know North
Carolina and Alabama are kind of presumed leaders ahead of
(06:21):
Kentucky right now as he's narrowing it down, Kentucky's still
in it. Just got to make up a little ground,
is what it sounds like coming out of peach Jam.
But I think if you were one to see him
in blue that wasn't the best news. But you know,
we'll be rooting for Jasper wherever he ends up.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
That's the thing. If he was playing for Woodford County
next year, he's right here in the backyard. Mark Pope
probably go to a lot of games.
Speaker 5 (06:37):
I mean, you're at school and your your classmates are
telling you what to do. You got UK logos everywhere.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
But yet, at the same time, I don't fault Jasper
for wanting to play for this program that is now
developed into producing all these players. Carter Knox is going
to overtime Elite, or he did go to overtime Elite.
Speaker 5 (06:53):
I mean, there's been several Yeah, it's a pipeline to
the it is.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
A pipeline to like major college basketball and to the NBA.
So I can't fault him for that. But I'm with you.
I think maybe hurts Kentucky chance. I gotta be a
little bit. I think yeah, and not just the recruiting.
Speaker 5 (07:06):
I'm sure they wanted to have him back just to
have a special season there. I mean, yeah, he would
have been the best player in the state playing for them.
So I assume around that area they're a little disappointed.
But I guess they're rooting for him too, you know,
to UK legacy we all know the connections. We'll be
rooting for him wherever he ends up. We just hope
it's Kentucky and Mark Pope is still in that fight.
But got some competition.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
One more UK basketball not while we're talking. The TBT
team lat Familiar plays for the championship tonight, nine o'clock
tonight round will.
Speaker 5 (07:35):
Yeah, the championship of the Round of sixteen.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Yes, the region championship tonight against the Herd from Marshall.
Heard that now people are gonna say, well, they're gonna
beat Marshall. We heard Myron say yesterday. This Marshall team,
they've been together for many years. They practiced together, they
play all year long together. This is like a well
oiled machine and that's why they're with the number one seed.
The Marshall team was so nine o'clock to night at
rep Aarena, Law Familia plays for the region championship.
Speaker 6 (08:00):
Be there.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
I've been bragging about the TBT every opportunity I can.
It's gonna be awesome tonight. If you are able to go,
and you don't have tickets and you're not going, I'll
go ahead and say you're dumb, because it is so
much fun they're pretty affordable. I think there's even promo
codes floating around. Now we need to get in there
and pack Rapparina. I think it's too late to host.
There's a ticket race. Louisville was up pretty big. Maybe
(08:22):
we can have a last minute steal it from them. Maybe,
but we certainly need to pack. The play Sunday was fun,
could have been better. I hope tonight's packed and it
needs to be packed because Marshall brings fans. They I
watched their first two games in Lexon. They've been playing
a lexing to too just before a lot familiar and
they've there's been a lot of green in there and
they're loud, and they've even been john a little bit
looking ahead.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Should be a lot of fun tonight at Rapparena, Lexington,
you know, representing with the UK person you have like dreasehad.
Marshall has a lot of crowd, has a big crowd.
We'll have the game on at Chaos Bar and Grill tonight.
Oh we have Single by the Way at seven o'clock.
Single tonight at seven o'clock and then the Law Familia
game at nine o'clock at Chas Bar.
Speaker 4 (08:59):
Should be fun I wish I was in lection into
the night. I could do single and then the game
back to back. I want to ask you guys what
Billy and I have talked about on the pre show.
Do you guys like elum ending on these tournament games?
Speaker 5 (09:11):
I liked it till last night when Louisville cheated to
win when they should have lost. A couple times to
what was.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
Said, the other kid just gets one bucket to get they.
Speaker 5 (09:21):
Call a time out. It's next basket wins for them.
You hear the coach drawn up the play. Even the
announcers like, okay, I think we know what they're doing.
They run it perfectly. Dude is so wide open he
has time to like spin it in his hand, he
sets his feet, wiggles his shoulders. No one from Louisville
goes out to guard him, and he missed it. And
then Louisville, I think they scored six straight. They should
have lost. There's a little home cooking. I'm not gonna
(09:43):
I'm not gonna complain about refs because that gets you
in trouble with the law. But there's a little home
cooking there. But Louisville should have lost last night. We've
been looking forward to lat Familiar running into their team.
They shouldn't even be in the tournament anymore. They got lucky.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
So if uk La Familia wins tonight and Louisville wins
tomorrow night of right now, that is they.
Speaker 5 (10:01):
Will they will meet in Uh. I guess Freedom Hall,
depending on ticket sales because it's up to that who host.
But it sounds like Louisville has been leading that and
that's just a one game one and night, just the
next round of the tournament. Yeah, that'll be the Elite eight,
I guess the lady.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Then the winners will go to the Final four in Philadelphia.
Got you so? So going out to Rupper tonight and
help support the Law Familia teams they try to win
the region championship against the Marshall Thundering Herd.
Speaker 5 (10:24):
Yeah, it's gonna be a tough one.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
Like we've said, Marshall, this is like careers for them.
The Kentucky guys. Obviously big name is great pro careers,
but they landed in lexing a couple of weeks ago
and figuring out I think Marshall's been running two a
days for the last five years, So that's what you're
up against.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Well, like I said, we'll be there at Chaos Bar
to night watching the game on a watch party. Shany said,
you won't be there tonight, but you'll be there Friday night.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
I will be there Friday night, Alice Bluegown will be
at Chaos Bar and Grill. We play at eight o'clock.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Look at that. Gett a little pop here.
Speaker 4 (10:50):
You're all invited to come out. It's gonna be a
free show and our first time playing there. Yes, really
looking forward to it.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
I'm excited about your first time ever to play at
Chaos Bar and Grey. We're gonna set up on the
patio kind of facing the restaurant with you're back to
the parking lot. So I'm really excited about it.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
Have we told our neighbors there's going to be a
rock band right next door?
Speaker 2 (11:07):
Well, we're still working on that. Okay, Yeah, we'll still
uh waiting on I think until Friday night.
Speaker 5 (11:13):
Find out.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (11:14):
Yeah, so permission, don't ask for permission and.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Ask for forgiveness is easier than asking for permission.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
So I mean, can we ask forgiveness from the cops
when they get called because of a noise ordinance?
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Well, we'll have to wait and see. Phone lines are
open eight five nine two two two eight seven. That's
our car's pumping shop phone number. It's Ask Anything Tuesday
if you want to call them boy and we'll get
you on board. Ask as a question. Got a lot
to talk about, and apparently the mayor of Mount Sterning
is about to present us with something. Drew, you come back,
some sort of presentation. We come back, so we'll have
that and we come back here on Kentucky's Sports Radio.
All right, welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan Drew and
(11:44):
Shannon here live at Irish Hills Golf Course in Mount Sterling. Shann,

Speaker 4 (12:22):
Dude.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
We are joined now by the Mayor of Mount Sterling,
Al Botts, who apparently has some sort of presentation to make.
Mayor bots you, what are you when you got up
your sleeve yet?
Speaker 7 (12:31):
Absolutely well. You know, we like to have fun over here.
I hope you all have realized that. And let me
put in a plug for this community. This is the
finest city in the Commonwealth, the city amounts there. There
we go, and it's not about the neat things we
have over here. It's about all these awesome people. And
you've got to meet a couple of them today. Reagan only,
I mean, how cool is that? It's all softball is
right here? She even she didn't mention it. She's also
(12:54):
a good basketball player, played for the basketball team, and
she had a better swing as a freshman and I
had as a senior.
Speaker 6 (13:01):
I can tell you that.
Speaker 7 (13:02):
So she's something. And then Robbie Hopkins, I mean, how
awesome is this the first mullet contest winner right here
in Mount Sterling. He's been a great ambassador for us,
and I'm kind of jealous because I've always wanted to,
you know, get that mullet back. I've workshopped the mayor
with the mullet and nobody's buying it.
Speaker 6 (13:22):
Just let it go, Just let it go.
Speaker 7 (13:24):
And but anyway, we have a lot of fun over
here and we'd love to have you all back. And
I know we had talked about it off air, but
if you can make it back for the Court Day
Festival and you are here for the mullet contest, I
guarantee that I can make sure I can pull some
strings and you all can be celebrity judge.
Speaker 6 (13:42):
We're back.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
We're back. That's Shannon's dream job. I think, there we go.
What do you got for us?
Speaker 6 (13:49):
So anyway, got something just to have fun? Now?
Speaker 7 (13:51):
We our numbers were kind of off today and I'm
kind of embarrassed because we like having a gift for
everybody when they come to town, and we had hoped
to have some fun T shirt.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Yeah, but I.
Speaker 7 (14:01):
Do know being a longtime listener, that Ryan Lemon loves.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
T shirt free teacher than any Yeah, but what he's
wearing right now.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
It's a free teacher.
Speaker 6 (14:08):
That's a free tea shirt.
Speaker 7 (14:09):
And you know when there's the rumor out there that
you don't always do laundry and you're just grabbing whatever
somebody gives you, Yes, well rumor, Yeah, that's not confirmed.
But we want to make sure that you have today
that you won't forget. You have a T shirt now
presented on behalf of this community that says Whirling Startling.
So wherever you go around the state, you'll know that
(14:32):
you've been to Whirling's Startling.
Speaker 5 (14:35):
Nice wear that you have no idea how much you
will wear that tomorrow?
Speaker 2 (14:40):
Are you talking about it tomorrow? Now? We talked about
court days a little bit over two hundred years. It's
in October, right, It's always in October, right. I remember
I came like about twenty years ago and there's people
walking around with shotguns. I'm thinking, what in the world
is going on?
Speaker 7 (14:56):
Probably the safest place in Kentucky on that weekend.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
Yeah, because the they have gun swaps sell guns and
people are walking around with these guns and they're properly
doing it the right way.
Speaker 6 (15:05):
Absolutely, So it's fun.
Speaker 7 (15:07):
You come to courtnay and you can see a little
little bit of everything, so it's fun to people watch.
It's fun to just come to see what you can find.
We had about five hundred and fifty vendors last year,
a lot of good food, mullet contests, music, We've got
it all. So we hope that everybody can come out
and join us this October eighteenth through twenty first and
enjoy the October Courtney Fest.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
Which of the festival foods are you going to first?
I'm like a funnel cake guy. Anything fried. I like
when people fry things that I've never seen friud, Like,
here's a fried twinkie Friday? Oreio do you do? You
dabble in theos.
Speaker 7 (15:38):
Always someone doing something like that. But my personal favorite
is the Cattleman's hamburgers here. Oh they just almost melt
in your mouth, so you will not go away hungry.
Speaker 6 (15:48):
I guarantee you that.
Speaker 5 (15:49):
Well, Shannon is certainly gonna be here. He didn't need
to know the date. He's clearing this schedule Aaron right now.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
Yes, I'm canceling a few gigs and I'll be here. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
Now, we talked about some famous people here from Mount Sterling,
My Barnhardt Reagan one. I know that, didn't the guy
that played Peter Pan in the Peter Pan movie, isn't
he from here?
Speaker 7 (16:08):
There is there's a couple of actors from Mount Sterling
that have called this their homes.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
So I think so, I think the guy in the
big Peter Pan movie isn't he from here? And even
Mount I don't know what his name is. What is it?
Jeremy Sumpter, Yes, Jeremy Sumter. But here's the big one
saw we saw the riddle last week. Brendan Canada said
he is from Mount Sterling out Winchester. We asked him
point blank, saw the argument. He said, I am from
(16:34):
Mount Sterling.
Speaker 7 (16:35):
Well, I'm glad that he's claiming Mount Sterling as his home. Yes,
we won't get into where he went to high school.
That we're true blue, red, white and blue around here
Montgomery County Indians sports.
Speaker 6 (16:47):
But that's okay. He's called Mount Sterling home.
Speaker 7 (16:50):
We're very proud that when we see his name on
that roster or have seen that for the University of Kentucky.
That makes me, as a mayor, very proud when I
see our young folks going out and that they're very
proud of where they grew up.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
Now here's another one. You have to solve the argument. Then,
is the original Aunt Jemima from here?
Speaker 7 (17:08):
That that is correct. So her name was Nancy Green.
She was born in Montgomery County, and she became the
first living trademark, which was Aunt Jamia.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
How about that?
Speaker 7 (17:19):
How about that right in Mounting. And she was more
than that, you know, we we talked about the trademark.
But she was an entrepreneur, she was a teacher, she
helped build her church. I mean, she was just a
wonderful lady. And we've started having a festival in the
spring on the website right now, absolutely, so you know,
we get we talk about these festivals. There is always
(17:40):
something fun going on in Worland, Starling, so you need
to check that tourism website and make sure you come
back over and see us.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Well.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Appreciate it, thank you very much for my I'll put
it on during the break. Actually give it up with
the mayor. Mayor Bond's appreciate it very much, Thank you.
Speaker 5 (17:54):
I feel bad we're in the hometown of the Queen
of pancakes a day after myran was made aakelex. You
should have stuck around one more day didn't.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
Save us one pancake. Absolutely, we had another story that
hit over the weekend, and we didn't talk about yester week.
We've got to mention it. Joe Biden dropped out of
the presidential race over the weekend. So it's back to
back weekends. We've had these monster stories on the assassination
of Donald Trump, and then a week later Joe Biden
drops out. I mean the fact that Biden dropping out
(18:25):
though may mean a boy and he may drop in
as a vice president candidate for Kamilla Harris.
Speaker 5 (18:30):
I already saw Andy throwing some little barbs the other
direction at jd Vance. The way I knew that happened
was TBT was tipping off. I'm standing on the court
getting video of just the starting lineup before that game starts,
and they had turned the TVT coverage to just you
know news. I'm sure every channel did that. And the
way I found out Biden had dropped off was my Twitter.
It was just people yelling at me to somehow find
(18:51):
them a broadcast. So it was kind of a unique
way of me learning the news there.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
So we have connections now to jd Vance. Yes, of course,
Joe Biden.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
Yes, you and I are close personal friends with Joe Biden,
he met him at the convention.
Speaker 4 (19:03):
And now possibly another vice president candidate with Andy Basher.
Speaker 5 (19:08):
And we have that picture from the PGA just a
little bit ago where you have your head on his
chest doing the little tongue smile.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Well, so yeah, Shannon and I have our ticket, our
picture with Joe Biden. All of us were together for
the picture with Andy Basheer. We need to get.
Speaker 6 (19:23):
As challenge.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
He challenged me to a foot ranch foot race, you know,
and that's one we don't hear from Matt very often,
but when that happened, he did send out a message.
It's kind of odd where both vice presidential candidates could
have both been on our radio show multiple times.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
The show has done some weird things. I still can't
even believe we're in the White House. That was forever
ago and now people that have been on these airwaves
are are in the running.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
Uh So we mentioned other athletes. Omar Prutt is the
son of Lee Wise and he is playing for the
Louisville TBT team. Right where did he play college basketball?
William and Mary? Oh you're the dad. Oh there's dad.
Speaker 5 (20:03):
Why are you asking her?
Speaker 2 (20:04):
The Dad Preuet right there. So Omar Prutt from here
Montgomery County plays for the Louisville TBT team that we
may play for the in the Elite eight.
Speaker 5 (20:17):
Yeah and uh he said women and Mary William and Mary. Oddly,
Matt Jones and I have been to William and Mary before,
you know, we go to I think we've been to
every college campus. When you did your Inventoryah, we popped
in little William and Mary nice spot.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Uh. What do you think about Nolan McCarthy, the UK
center fielder leaving and now I canna announced he's picking Georgia.
He's gonna go to Georgia.
Speaker 5 (20:38):
Uh, I'm a little hurt. We Georgia was kind of
the word the moment he entered the portal because of
UK los an assistant to Georgia. That one stings. We
said about the time that slide is legendary. That was
gonna be on the tickets, that was gonna be you know,
on the wall at the facility. And now he didn't
just go to under school. It's somebody that's gonna be
on the schedule. Yes, I mean, he's a legend where
(20:59):
we will always remember what he did. But this is
slightly traitorish behavior that we're looking at right now. So
I guess we're gonna have to have a little while
before we can honor him with the murals and everything,
because he's like he's in the.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
Conference, Shannon. He was the first UK baseball player that
came on this show, yeah, I know, and we all
kind of adopted him as one of our favorite players.
And now he's had this major moment with the dive,
the slide.
Speaker 5 (21:22):
The biggest moment in UK baseball history that sent them
to Omaha.
Speaker 4 (21:25):
And then just like that, he's gone. It's unfortunate, just
the world we live in with the transfer portal, so
I hate to see it, and it does hurt.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
Like he's not just gone, he's going to Georgia.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
Yeah, I know, I know that's that is traitorish behavior.
Speaker 5 (21:39):
You're right, legendary player. I wish they could have kept
around though with losing so many. I mean, they had
a great class go to the draft. Can't do anything
about that. But he and Devin Burks, I mean, they
were kind of going to be the faces of the
team moving forward, and now he's gonna be on the
schedule wearing red.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
So Kentucky Brandon gave me one of the shirts the
dive do I still am? I still able to wait?
It's autogra by him.
Speaker 5 (22:01):
I mean, he's always gonna be the slide. Georgia doesn't
get to claim him. But there is gonna be a
little period where we're just gonna need a little time apart. Yeah,
you can wear the shirt once he's done with this
time in Georgia.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
By the way, did you get your your notes on
your phone? It looks like they're back in English.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
Yeah. I don't know what happened. I seriously, you guys
were that we were all there in Leven and the
other day. I have no idea why all my notes
went to German. I have no clue. But yeah, everything's
fine now and in the in the right language.
Speaker 5 (22:27):
Speaking of notes, we have any bills to pay? Why
we're looking what you drew? This segment sponsored by Draft Kings. Yeah,

Welcome back to Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
All right, Welcome back to Tanky Sports Radio. Ryan Lem
and Drew Franklin and Shannon the Dude here at Irish
Hills Golf Course in Montgomery County, Mount Sterling. Hello, we've
got wet met the judge. We've met the mayor. We've
got the miss Softball, got all kinds of celebrities walk
around here. Hey Feller Casey brought her son Tyler here,
so everybody's here today.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
I was just checking out all the different attractions.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
Yeah here.
Speaker 4 (23:42):
Did you know they have a drive in theater which
oh yeah, I'm a big fan of drive ins and
there aren't many left in this country. But this has
been around since nineteen fifty two.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
I know they hadn't Uh? Is the jerry still open here?
They had one of the last Jerry's. Did they close it?
They closed the Jerry's?
Speaker 4 (23:59):
All right? P Jerry?
Speaker 2 (24:00):
All right?
Speaker 6 (24:00):
Pee Cherry?
Speaker 5 (24:01):
I have our Do we have any text or tweets
of the day? And this is our chase board posted Let's.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
Do it, Let's do it.
Speaker 5 (24:07):
Do we have any more things to check off?
Speaker 2 (24:08):
I think the Kentucky branded tweeted the day is right
now go.
Speaker 5 (24:11):
For tweet today by Richmond Bramlett.
Speaker 2 (24:13):
Who is he is a native? Yeah, he heard.
Speaker 5 (24:17):
The mayor mentioned the Cattleman's rib by sandwich and he wrote,
Cattleman's rib By sandwich is something I've driven hours to get,
So I think I need to try one. If we've
got the mayor endorsing it. I think Casey said something
about it too, and now Richmond's driving ours to get it.
I'm very curious about that.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Well, they did offer some lunch. Maybe that's what we
should have ordered, order that that sandwich down there. Now,
give you guys a little homework assignment. I don't know
if you did it.
Speaker 5 (24:41):
I was writing an obituary, but I'll be ready.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
It came up last week a couple of players that
we kind of forget actually played for UK basketball. What
are your most forgettable UK basketball players? Nothing bad, but
my answer up came to my mind immediately, who do
you come up with?
Speaker 5 (25:02):
I have to think on others because I just now
saw your text with that homework. My apologies. I've always
thought Isaiah Jackson, we're gonna completely forget about that guy.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
Yeah, it was COVID year. COVID year.
Speaker 5 (25:13):
I think, if I remember correctly, i've I've kind of
pushed that season out. I think I was yelling for
him to start a lot. Was he not starting much?
I remember I wanted.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Him to play more, play more, for sure.
Speaker 5 (25:23):
Then he goes to the Pacers. Not really, I mean
it's close, but you know you're not turning on TNT
and seeing a lot of the Pacers. I guess you're
getting a little bit of him now, But he's just
a guy that to be a lottery pick. I think
he was. It's almost like we kind of forget it exists.
I know UK fans who have gone to a Pacers
game and then saw him be like, oh yeah, that
guy played it, so he will be my answer forever.
And I like Isaiah Jackson. It was just that was
(25:44):
such a weird year. It was COVID. He had one season,
it didn't go well at all. So he's he's gonna
be the first one that comes to mind for me.
Speaker 4 (25:51):
Yeah, you say the most forgettable, like player that we
want to forget.
Speaker 5 (25:54):
No, no, if you want to play that game, Well.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
It's like Isaiah Jackson. That's a good example. You just
kind of forget he is here for a year.
Speaker 4 (26:00):
But if I say that I forgot him and then
I say them, then obviously I remembered them.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Yeah, I would say, well.
Speaker 5 (26:07):
Who do you think most people have forgotten?
Speaker 4 (26:09):
I think of a guy that was like really hyped
up coming in and didn't really perform like we thought
that he would here and that it would be scowl Thebusya.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
That's a good one. That's one that comes to mind
for me. That's a good one.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
But of course the fact that I'm thinking of him
again kind of defeats the purpose of the game. I
don't know, do you have one?
Speaker 2 (26:25):
I got a couples. The one that immediately came to
mind was e J Montgomery. I mean, the guy is
still playing professional basketball. He had a good year here,
had one one of a couple of the Florida game.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
You want to Florida game was that team's championship, really.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
And but yet you forget I kind of forget that
he was here.
Speaker 5 (26:45):
I always think about if Ej because he needed to
come back, if Nio were around. He's a guy that
would just return and get better, like my boy Nick Richards.
I guess we had two years with EJ, but still
it he needed a little more time to really show
his potential. I think in Nio Era might help keep
him and several others around who left too early.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
How about Cameron Fletcher.
Speaker 5 (27:06):
Oh oh, I had actually completely forgotten. Now I'll add
one who was my Twitter picture for two months until
he left, Koltt Whitney. I thought the dragon was gonna
be the next person we're putting in the rafters. He
went to Big Blue Madness. He was so much fun. Yeah,
Like I said, I made him my profile picture and
then and then he was gone for the Christmas.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
If I'm not mistaken, I was trying to think of
guys back in the in the Tubby era. You guys
may not know this name, Nate Knight.
Speaker 5 (27:32):
Remember Date Night. He was a rapper.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
Well maybe that's what he went into now, but he was.
He came in for like half a season I think,
and then transferred. I think you came like b Yu.
I'm not sure where he transferred in from. And then
he transferred back out like after a half a year.
He's one. I think that from the Tubby area we
could put in his conversation.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
When you look at the rosters, like of the nineties teams,
there's a lot of guys on there that, I mean
most of them on there, actually you remember, Yeah, I
mean if I look at the roster from ninety what
is this ninety five ninety six, there's not one guy
in there that I would say that I forgot existed.
Speaker 5 (28:05):
What's to your point? What did you accomplish? I mean
I'm gonna remember the last guy on the bench. Yeah,
for team that wins the championship. But if you have
a five star coming here and they transfer like a
lot of the guys we've named, or they didn't really
pan out, unfortunately, they're the ones you're gonna think of
in this conversation.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
Okay, who are the walk Ons? When it was Sam
Malone and Brian Long, Brian Long.
Speaker 5 (28:24):
We had the guy call in and said Brian Long
didn't appreciate it and he was all mad, So that
kind of became a little thing.
Speaker 4 (28:29):
Jason Latham, that's a good one.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
That's from the ninety six championship team.
Speaker 4 (28:33):
Boys, that's the one guy I don't remember.
Speaker 5 (28:35):
Yeah, I want to shout out Sam Malone real quick.
We keep talking about this TBT thing, but twenty Beckham,
Sam Malone, we talked to John Hood and Sam Darius Miller.
We keep focus on the guys actually playing. There's a
lot of hard work in the coaching and the other
stuff too, and Sam's been a big part of that.
In twenty I don't think we've bragged enough about putting
it all together.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
Well that's you know, Sean Woods and Sam and e
Sean Woods. Yeah, they immediately give twenty all the credit
for putting his team together. He's handled it and run
it like a professional business. He's really done a good job.
They gave him all the credit.
Speaker 5 (29:05):
Yeah, even like a Poethrus coming to just for one
day to watch a game.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (29:10):
Uh, Ennis is hopefully popping in at some point. You're
your guys that aren't even involved are showing up. And
I think part of it is that it is twenty
and some of these guys the I guess i'll call
him the staff of TBT. Uh being so popular and
with all.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
The guys, is Alex deserve to be In his conversation
to guys, you just kind of.
Speaker 5 (29:26):
Oh, no I forgettable, No, no, absolutely not. I love Alex.
But when I walked in and I saw him in
Reperena on Sunday, It's like, why are you sitting here
put on a jersey right now? Can you go in
there and dunk on someone?
Speaker 7 (29:40):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (29:41):
What about Antoine Barber?
Speaker 4 (29:44):
I remember him. I don't think he's one of the
guys you would would you put him on that list?
Speaker 5 (29:51):
For me? It's all what your expectations were. I mean,
I remember Antoine Barb. What are Kaylin Sims if you
want to go Juco Simms is a good one game
where we're defeating the exercise, but remember them, I guess,
so it's really just the one that don't pan out unfortunately.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
Eight five nine two eight oh two two eight seven.
That's our phone room if you wanna call and get
them bore. We got a caller, Matt who we got Nancy?
Speaker 4 (30:10):
Go ahead, Nancy, Hey, how are you all today?
Speaker 5 (30:13):
Good?
Speaker 2 (30:13):
How are you doing good?
Speaker 8 (30:15):
Okay?
Speaker 5 (30:16):
So maybe somebody's asked us before, but I've always been
curious none of you all went to UK? Was that
ever a thought that you.
Speaker 8 (30:23):
Might go there?
Speaker 5 (30:24):
Excuse me. I'm a graduate of the Gatton College of Business,
Business and Administration at the University of Kentucky. After very
proud UK alone.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
After herews five years at Madison Hill Community College.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
Had someplace else? Okay?
Speaker 2 (30:37):
No, I mean.
Speaker 5 (30:38):
I'd dabbled in a couple of laps around English one
on one somewhere else, but once I got focused, I
got to Lexington and was a perfect student somewhat some ways.
Speaker 6 (30:46):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (30:47):
So that's Drew's answers, Okay, Shannon Ryan, I wanted to.
Speaker 4 (30:52):
Go somewhere where I could play baseball too, and I
wasn't d one talent man. Yes, so I had to
go to next best thing, which was Lindsay Wilson and Bellman.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
Yeah. I don't know why Keith Madison didn't recruit either
one of us back in the day. Come on, coach,
at the best seventy miles on our fastball, that's I'm saying. Answer.
Speaker 5 (31:09):
Reagan would have hit that to the parking lot.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
I appreciate phone call. Now, what about Matt does he
Do you all have any idea why he didn't go there? Uh?
Speaker 5 (31:19):
He has Duke Law School. That's a pretty I know
we think of Duke for athletics, but if you have
an opportunity to go to Duke Law School, I think
I think he was thinking more academics than.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
He went to Trancy through a like a presidential scholar
program or something like that.
Speaker 5 (31:32):
Where he was, Matt had a lot more opportunities academically
than the three of us. Yeah, so I think that's
why he made the decisions he did.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
He visited, I mean, he almost went to Northwestern, right.
Speaker 5 (31:41):
I think Genya is the one who considered.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Yeah, yeah, a lot of academic schools. Yeah, Matt was
going for the books.
Speaker 5 (31:48):
I was kind of checking out the bar scene in
earliest class.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
Ron and I were trying to get to the league
and in Kentucky, Wesley and Bellerman didn't get it done
for us.
Speaker 4 (31:59):
Well, we had some guys that they did.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
The guy that's pitching right now for the Diamondbacks fought. Yeah,
Brandon font that's right yep in the day too. But
there you go. Well, thank you very much. We appreciate
the phone call.
Speaker 5 (32:13):
Proud UK graduate right here.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
You're the only one a five nine two two eight seven.
That's our phone number. You want to call and get
on board our we'll make that our our Don Franklin
call the day. We haven't issued that yet today, so
we'll make that to Don.
Speaker 4 (32:24):
Franklin call today earlier. It was the second call of
the day.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
Okay, we did it. We're gonna do it twice. They
keep handing us all kinds of notes. Here. Luke Fuller,
he's from here. He was went to Western Kentucky University.
Was just a Conference USA Individual Golfer champion. This is
this his home course.
Speaker 6 (32:41):
Oh he just left.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
Oh he was just in here. Well, Brandon Fuller, another
one of our Montgomery County star athletes we need to
talk about.
Speaker 6 (32:50):
Now.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
It's not Montgomery County, but it's next door. It's Clark County,
L eight one, Winchester. They're coming out with a new flavor.
Speaker 5 (32:59):
I'm aware.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
I had to call the guy Jason Eperson, who made
the video for this new flavor, because I thought maybe
we weren't supposed to announce the flavor talking.
Speaker 5 (33:08):
About I went to the launch party two weeks ago,
so it should have called me.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
But why was there a thread on chaos board yesterday
saying about this new secret flavor?
Speaker 5 (33:18):
What's it is?
Speaker 2 (33:19):
New?
Speaker 5 (33:20):
The threads about a month old?
Speaker 2 (33:22):
Oh somebody just maybe replied to it.
Speaker 5 (33:24):
Yeah, yeah, No. I went to the lunch lunch the
lunch party, there was food there I guess was a
lunch party. But at the Lost Palm at the Manchester Hotel,
I went for the celebration of the new straw melon
L eight Strawberry send me home with three four packs,
got a little pump. It was a party and and
I haven't tried there's like a peach in the BlackBerry.
I never got to try those, but the straw melons delicious.
(33:45):
My two favorite flavors I can get are strawberry and watermelon.
So when they put those together, I didn't walk. I
ran to try it out. There you go.
Speaker 4 (33:54):
We had the BlackBerry I think a couple of weeks
we did.
Speaker 5 (33:56):
Yeah, I haven't tried that one. There's another one other summer.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
Well. Jason Eperson made the promo video and it's awesome.
Speaker 5 (34:01):
It's very funny, it's awesome. Epic films, the same one
that did our super Bowl commercial.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
Super Bowl commercial with the big donut that I was
sitting on. So if you haven't seen the commercial, look
that up. But I had to call with him to
make sure. Can we talk about this? Is this like
still top secret? But because I think the video, I
don't know how far the video's been out. Is the
video everywhere right now?
Speaker 5 (34:19):
I'm not sure when the video came out. I just
saw that too, but I certainly enjoyed the celebration of
it coming out. And like I said, I have some
four pack sit at home.
Speaker 2 (34:27):

Speaker 6 (35:34):
I think we are?
Speaker 4 (35:35):
Were you supposed to say that he did?
Speaker 2 (35:38):
I did, already did put back in tube.
Speaker 4 (35:41):
I got a a TV commercial for the Moonshine Trail
coming up, soaring it's.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
Next week it is. I don't know what day it is,
but I think it's next week.
Speaker 4 (35:49):
I mean, well, they're gonna shoot it and then I'm
sure there's gotta be like some production.
Speaker 6 (35:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (35:52):
So I don't know that it's going to be out immediately,
but probably in the next few weeks after that.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Two oh two two eight seven. We got a caller
on board who we got Matt Tommy, go ahead, Tommy.
Speaker 9 (36:06):
Uh yeah. I used to referee high school basketball in
a showcase startment. Uh referee Carmelo Anthony Derrick Rose, Deron Lamb.
And the best high school player I ever saw that
played at Kentucky and most people probably don't even remember
him was a guy by the name of Rashad Caruz.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
Oh yeah, yeah, shoot it.
Speaker 9 (36:26):
Like nobody's business. Uh, I think he played for Oak
Hill Academy.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
He did, Yep, he sure did.
Speaker 9 (36:31):
I think he played one year at Kentucky and then
transferred to Southern miss I think, but uh yeah, he
was a guy that, uh I really thought would be somebody.
It just didn't work out.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
A lot of people did. Yeah, that's a good call there,
Thank you, thanks for the phone call. Yeah, he's a go.
Here's a couple others that people have nominated for maybe
we don't remember as well.
Speaker 5 (36:49):
Stacy Poole, oh yeah, one of the first Cow teams. Well,
Stacey Poole Junior was highly recruited. We had to have
a Florida for him.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
Charles Matthews, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (36:59):
He he. He made his name for himself after he
transferred went to Michigan, went up there and had a
great career after not playing too much as one year here.
Speaker 4 (37:07):
What about Ryan Harrow?
Speaker 2 (37:08):
Ryan Harrow Yeah struggled. You know. I heard the words
where he was eating up Marcus Teak and practice in
then twenty twelve and then twenty thirteen when he got
to be the point guard. It just didn't happen for him.
Speaker 6 (37:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (37:19):
I think the pressure for Kentucky and the Cow system
and all that might have been a little too much
for him. We learned over time. But there's not a
better YouTube highlight reel than Ryan Harrow. I'll put it
up against anybody's. His high school highlight clip on YouTube
wasn't quit. That dude could really dunk for his size.
It just didn't pan out when he got to Kentucky
to run the show.
Speaker 2 (37:37):
How about ty Winyard. That's another good shading your buddy,
shade and sharp and sharp.
Speaker 4 (37:45):
I think a lot of people would like to forget
that that happened.
Speaker 5 (37:47):
What about ty Wyard's bodyguard. We can't forget him too.
I mean you can't say one without the other.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
It's ty Oneyard, the guy that like chopped down trees
or something.
Speaker 5 (37:54):
He was the lumberjacks, was like a world class, world
champion lumberjet.
Speaker 4 (37:58):
Okay, yeah, I knew this.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
And he had a bodyguard when he walked around campus.
Speaker 5 (38:02):
I have another good Tie Windard story for an uncensored
podcast one day.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
I can't tell it today.
Speaker 5 (38:06):
I'll tease that all right.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
Want to wrap it up here. We've got Brad Toy here,
our general manager from the Irish Hills Golf Course. You
got your big tournament coming up this weekend. How many
guys will be out here? We limited to one hundred
and twenty. That's a big field. And people can still register.
Speaker 8 (38:23):
We have a few spots left, but not many can.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
There's a register for the scramble, then on Thursday.
Speaker 8 (38:28):
We do shootout on Thursday, Super Scrambles.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
On Friday, Friday, okay, and then we have the tournament on.
Speaker 6 (38:34):
Saturday and Sunday.
Speaker 5 (38:35):
This is one of those where you got a ringer
that wins it a lot, or is it kind of
balanced where a different name gets the trophy every year.
Speaker 8 (38:40):
We've you know, we've had several back to back winners
over the past few years. But you know, it used
to be a big state wide golf tournament. It's more
of central Kentucky now. But you know, we've had people
like Kevin Lawson, that's.
Speaker 6 (38:55):
One of two or three times.
Speaker 8 (38:57):
Robbie Crockett, a Louisville guy.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
But he used to be local here. He's wanted three.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (39:04):
But I mean, we've had people like Jody Mudd and
Tom Musselman. He was talking about Aperson there's the Aperson's
out of Clark Canty have won it twice, you know,
so I mean there's some big names that it wanted.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
Aunt Jemima ever played in the golf tournament. I don't
know if she might have cooked for it.
Speaker 5 (39:24):
You're busy making pancakes, Brad.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
You guys have been a great host. We can't thank
you enough for having us out here. It's been a
good host, and you've got a good crowd here. So
thank you very much. And I hope you get to
come back and visit again. I hope you do. Thank you,
Brad to I appreciate gentle manager. Appreciated Brad.
Speaker 5 (39:37):
Weget that scrambled deadline tomorrow too. If you want to
get in the scrambled.
Speaker 2 (39:39):
If you still want to play in the scramble, you
still got a chance if you want to give. But
the deadline is tomorrow. I got a couple other people
are coming in now. Sasha Kalia Jones.
Speaker 5 (39:47):
Yep went off to n C State.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
Yeah, I wonder what he's.
Speaker 5 (39:51):
Up to now. Yeh, pro career, don't. I didn't follow
Hi much, idea. I don't think you played much of
end C State.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
Quade Green. I went to.
Speaker 5 (39:59):
Philadelphia to Quade's high school. I set parked outside his
high school for like five hours. Waiting to get ahold
of him, went to his game, interviewed him, met his family.
I thought he was gonna really pan out, and he
wasn't bad. I mean, he played two years here, but
his second year is when Shae Gilgas Alexander stepped in
and became a star.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
Back in the Tubby era. Ryan Hogan, who was Kevin
Greeby's nephew, he came here and didn't play that. He
went to Iowa and had a good, good couple of
years for the Hawkeyes.
Speaker 5 (40:24):
Remember him too, I'm not I'm not helping your game.
I remembering all these people.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
Well, you know when when you think about the great players,
those those names were easy to come by. The guys
that were kind of maybe didn't pan out or didn't
play as much, you kind of forget some of those
over the years. So it was a good little summer
exercise for us.
Speaker 5 (40:38):
Thanks for bringing up Shading Sharp. I did forget about him. Yeah,
now I'm angry Shade and Sharp. He has to be
the biggest mystery of the col Era.
Speaker 2 (40:48):
You know.
Speaker 5 (40:48):
I think that's when it started going south for the Calira.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
I think it really did.
Speaker 5 (40:51):
That's when the agents in the NBA started saying more
than Kentucky coaches were saying yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:55):
And when it yet, he was kind of kept hinting
that he was gonna play come watching warm up. You know,
you go believe that what this guy can do.
Speaker 5 (41:01):
He's got injured teammates and he's sitting there watching him
from the bench, and Ractice.
Speaker 4 (41:04):
Get a heck of a layup. We saw it.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
So a big night at chast Bar and Grill tonight.
We got Singo at seven o'clock. I know even Marry
Joe Parino is coming to Singo tonight.
Speaker 5 (41:15):
And I forgot to have a big dinner. I'm gonna
be wearing a suit at the TBT game tonight. So
when you look at me, I didn't just get dressed
up for the game, even though I'm excited. I just
have a double header downtown.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
So you're going from a big formal dinner in your
suit across the street to Rapperena.
Speaker 5 (41:28):
Thank god the games at nine. Yeah, I have a
dinner at seven. Feel like I'll just I'll be ready
to go. I'll just walk across the street and be
in there now.
Speaker 2 (41:34):
The game is televised tonight.
Speaker 5 (41:35):
Yes, FS one F S one, But you should go
you should go. If you can't go watch on FS one.
But I better see a pat crowd in Rupperena. And
we need to get serious about this. It's been so
fun to the first two. They're in the round of sixteen,
looking ahead to Louisville. It's the last game in Lexton.
Let's really get behind them.
Speaker 2 (41:49):
Tonight and Friday night, Alice Blue Gown comes to Kass
Bar and Grill for their first performance.
Speaker 4 (41:53):
That's the right show starts at eight o'clock. Let's pack
at the house and have a good night listen.
Speaker 2 (41:58):
