They've got their sixty second annual Gate City Invitational coming
up this weekend. On Thursdays their shootout, but on Friday
they've got a scramble that you could still get in.
Deadline is tomorrow. If you want to get in, you
can still you can make the scramble, and then of
course Saturday Sunday is the big tournament. And Drew, you've

played here so kind of courses here.

I just like the I talked about the course of a minute.
But I like the small towns that have these tournaments
that have been here forever, has been here since like
nineteen sixty two. Madisonville's got one that's lasting forever. I'm
sure there's some all over the state where it's a
it's a big deal of the city. I think they
were there spots still in the big tournament too, not
just to scramble.

Okay, so can you come and still get in the
scramble and the tournament Saturday Sunday, Shannon, they didn't invite
you and me to play.

Reed Shepherd. He was named to the All Summer League team,
the five man team. That was a no brainer. He
was the superstar of the Summer League. Wasn't he a soon?

I didn't see the voting assume that was a unanimous pic.

That had to be And how could you not vote
him on the All Summer League first five member first team?

Speaker 5 (03:58):
That and Rob his first game in Summer League didn't
go well. That's when we bet on him to score
a lot, So that was our fault. We'll take that
one case our Kurston. But he finished very strong on
Saturday with a huge game from Minnesota to get them
excited moving forward. A lot of the other UK guys
they popped in here and there, but obviously those two
were the big stars. Antonio Reeves signed a contract point yeah. Sorry,
don't don't want to cross off your list, but more

big news from that draft class that we just sent off.

So is a three year deal. I believe with the
Pelicans that he signed, so I don't have it front
of him. I think it was three year deal for
Fero point five.

Good for him. You know that all those teams that
passed on him, I think may end up regretting that
down the road.

Channon, I mean, Reeves is gonna be Are you talking

Yeah, I think he is going to be, uh a
standout player for somebody. I don't know how long his
career is gonna go. You and I were talking about this,
I think a couple of weeks ago on the pre Show,
Like out of those three guys, Dillingham, Shepherd, Reeves. Which
of those three do you think is gonna have the
longest NBA career? I think you and I both picked Dillingham.
But Reeves is going to be a good player for

somebody because.

He could do the one thing everybody wants. They won
a shooter, and he's proven he's a knockdown shooter.

Speaker 5 (05:05):
He can knock it down the three point shot. But
I don't think we give him enough credit for he
can do it really at every level. He's got that floater.
I mean he really when he came back for the
second year at UK. Maybe he had it the year before,
but he added a lot to his offense and that's
why he's got that three year deal. And I think
the Pelicans are gonna be very happy they.

Have him now. Also on the UK basketball front, Jasper Johnson,
who was on this show about a month ago, visited Kentucky,
visited Alabama, visited North Carolina, kind of made a surprising
announcement of the week injury where he announced he was
going to you know, because he had played with Woodford
County on their summer league team. A lot of people,
including myself, thought, well, he's going to play for Woodford

County his senior year, announced that he was going to
go play for Overtime Elite next year. That's where Rob
Dillingham played, That's where Alex Sar played, who was just
the number one pick. What were your thoughts when you
saw that Jasper Johnson was going to play it Overtime Elite.

Speaker 5 (05:59):
I mean, if that's what he wants to do, good
for him. I wish him luck, but that probably isn't
good for Kentucky and recruiting. I think it would have
been a little easier to have him in the backyard
playing Woodford County, surrounded by all the Kentucky fans that
might be recruiting him every single day around there. So
keeping him out of the Bluegrass I think is gonna
be even harder to rell him in. I know North
Carolina and Alabama are kind of presumed leaders ahead of

Kentucky right now as he's narrowing it down, Kentucky's still
in it. Just got to make up a little ground,
is what it sounds like coming out of peach Jam.
But I think if you were one to see him
in blue that wasn't the best news. But you know,
we'll be rooting for Jasper wherever he ends up.

That's the thing. If he was playing for Woodford County
next year, he's right here in the backyard. Mark Pope
probably go to a lot of games.

I mean, you're at school and your your classmates are
telling you what to do. You got UK logos everywhere.

But yet, at the same time, I don't fault Jasper
for wanting to play for this program that is now
developed into producing all these players. Carter Knox is going
to overtime Elite, or he did go to overtime Elite.

Speaker 5 (06:53):
I mean, there's been several Yeah, it's a pipeline to
the it is.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
A pipeline to like major college basketball and to the NBA.
So I can't fault him for that. But I'm with you.
I think maybe hurts Kentucky chance. I gotta be a
little bit. I think yeah, and not just the recruiting.

Speaker 5 (07:06):
I'm sure they wanted to have him back just to
have a special season there. I mean, yeah, he would
have been the best player in the state playing for them.
So I assume around that area they're a little disappointed.
But I guess they're rooting for him too, you know,
to UK legacy we all know the connections. We'll be
rooting for him wherever he ends up. We just hope
it's Kentucky and Mark Pope is still in that fight.
But got some competition.

One more UK basketball not while we're talking. The TBT
team lat Familiar plays for the championship tonight, nine o'clock
tonight round will.

Yeah, the championship of the Round of sixteen.

Yes, the region championship tonight against the Herd from Marshall.
Heard that now people are gonna say, well, they're gonna
beat Marshall. We heard Myron say yesterday. This Marshall team,
they've been together for many years. They practiced together, they
play all year long together. This is like a well
oiled machine and that's why they're with the number one seed.
The Marshall team was so nine o'clock to night at
rep Aarena, Law Familia plays for the region championship.

I've been bragging about the TBT every opportunity I can.
It's gonna be awesome tonight. If you are able to go,
and you don't have tickets and you're not going, I'll
go ahead and say you're dumb, because it is so

and pack Rapparina. I think it's too late to host.
There's a ticket race. Louisville was up pretty big. Maybe

we can have a last minute steal it from them. Maybe,
but we certainly need to pack. The play Sunday was fun,
could have been better. I hope tonight's packed and it
needs to be packed because Marshall brings fans. They I
watched their first two games in Lexon. They've been playing
a lexing to too just before a lot familiar and
they've there's been a lot of green in there and
they're loud, and they've even been john a little bit
looking ahead.

you know, representing with the UK person you have like dreasehad.
Marshall has a lot of crowd, has a big crowd.

Should be fun I wish I was in lection into

I liked it till last night when Louisville cheated to
win when they should have lost. A couple times to

Said, the other kid just gets one bucket to get they.

Call a time out. It's next basket wins for them.
You hear the coach drawn up the play. Even the
announcers like, okay, I think we know what they're doing.
They run it perfectly. Dude is so wide open he
has time to like spin it in his hand, he
sets his feet, wiggles his shoulders. No one from Louisville
goes out to guard him, and he missed it. And
then Louisville, I think they scored six straight. They should
have lost. There's a little home cooking. I'm not gonna

I'm not gonna complain about refs because that gets you
in trouble with the law. But there's a little home
cooking there. But Louisville should have lost last night. We've
been looking forward to lat Familiar running into their team.
They shouldn't even be in the tournament anymore. They got lucky.

So if uk La Familia wins tonight and Louisville wins
tomorrow night of right now, that is they.

Will they will meet in Uh. I guess Freedom Hall,
depending on ticket sales because it's up to that who host.
But it sounds like Louisville has been leading that and
that's just a one game one and night, just the
next round of the tournament. Yeah, that'll be the Elite eight,
I guess the lady.

Then the winners will go to the Final four in Philadelphia.

help support the Law Familia teams they try to win
the region championship against the Marshall Thundering Herd.

Like we've said, Marshall, this is like careers for them.
The Kentucky guys. Obviously big name is great pro careers,
but they landed in lexing a couple of weeks ago
and figuring out I think Marshall's been running two a
days for the last five years, So that's what you're
up against.

Well, like I said, we'll be there at Chaos Bar
to night watching the game on a watch party. Shany said,
you won't be there tonight, but you'll be there Friday night.

We had about five hundred and fifty vendors last year,

My Barnhardt Reagan one. I know that, didn't the guy

There is there's a couple of actors from Mount Sterling
that have called this their homes.

So I think so, I think the guy in the
big Peter Pan movie isn't he from here? And even
Mount I don't know what his name is. What is it?
Jeremy Sumpter, Yes, Jeremy Sumter. But here's the big one
saw we saw the riddle last week. Brendan Canada said
he is from Mount Sterling out Winchester. We asked him
point blank, saw the argument. He said, I am from

Well, I'm glad that he's claiming Mount Sterling as his home. Yes,
we won't get into where he went to high school.
That we're true blue, red, white and blue around here
Montgomery County Indians sports.

But that's okay. He's called Mount Sterling home.

We're very proud that when we see his name on
that roster or have seen that for the University of Kentucky.
That makes me, as a mayor, very proud when I
see our young folks going out and that they're very
proud of where they grew up.

Now here's another one. You have to solve the argument. Then,
is the original Aunt Jemima from here?

That that is correct. So her name was Nancy Green.
She was born in Montgomery County, and she became the
first living trademark, which was Aunt Jamia.

than that, you know, we we talked about the trademark.
But she was an entrepreneur, she was a teacher, she
helped build her church. I mean, she was just a

the presidential race over the weekend. So it's back to
back weekends. We've had these monster stories on the assassination
of Donald Trump, and then a week later Joe Biden
drops out. I mean the fact that Biden dropping out

though may mean a boy and he may drop in
as a vice president candidate for Kamilla Harris.

I already saw Andy throwing some little barbs the other
direction at jd Vance. The way I knew that happened
was TBT was tipping off. I'm standing on the court
getting video of just the starting lineup before that game starts,
and they had turned the TVT coverage to just you
know news. I'm sure every channel did that. And the
way I found out Biden had dropped off was my Twitter.
It was just people yelling at me to somehow find

them a broadcast. So it was kind of a unique
way of me learning the news there.

So we have connections now to jd Vance. Yes, of course,
Joe Biden.

Yes, you and I are close personal friends with Joe Biden,
he met him at the convention.

And now possibly another vice president candidate with Andy Basher.

And we have that picture from the PGA just a
little bit ago where you have your head on his
chest doing the little tongue smile.

Well, so yeah, Shannon and I have our ticket, our
picture with Joe Biden. All of us were together for
the picture with Andy Basheer. We need to get.

He challenged me to a foot ranch foot race, you know,
and that's one we don't hear from Matt very often,
but when that happened, he did send out a message.
It's kind of odd where both vice presidential candidates could
have both been on our radio show multiple times.

The show has done some weird things. I still can't
even believe we're in the White House. That was forever
ago and now people that have been on these airwaves
are are in the running.

Uh So we mentioned other athletes. Omar Prutt is the
son of Lee Wise and he is playing for the
Louisville TBT team. Right where did he play college basketball?
William and Mary? Oh you're the dad. Oh there's dad.

Why are you asking her?

The Dad Preuet right there. So Omar Prutt from here
Montgomery County plays for the Louisville TBT team that we
may play for the in the Elite eight.

Yeah and uh he said women and Mary William and Mary. Oddly,
Matt Jones and I have been to William and Mary before,
you know, we go to I think we've been to

still playing professional basketball. He had a good year here,
had one one of a couple of the Florida game.

And but yet you forget I kind of forget that
he was here.

I always think about if Ej because he needed to
come back, if Nio were around. He's a guy that
would just return and get better, like my boy Nick Richards.
I guess we had two years with EJ, but still
it he needed a little more time to really show
his potential. I think in Nio Era might help keep
him and several others around who left too early.

How about Cameron Fletcher.

Oh oh, I had actually completely forgotten. Now I'll add
one who was my Twitter picture for two months until
he left, Koltt Whitney. I thought the dragon was gonna

I never got to try those, but the straw melons delicious.

My two favorite flavors I can get are strawberry and watermelon.
So when they put those together, I didn't walk. I

where he was eating up Marcus Teak and practice in
then twenty twelve and then twenty thirteen when he got
to be the point guard. It just didn't happen for him.

I think the pressure for Kentucky and the Cow system
and all that might have been a little too much
for him. We learned over time. But there's not a
better YouTube highlight reel than Ryan Harrow. I'll put it
up against anybody's. His high school highlight clip on YouTube
wasn't quit. That dude could really dunk for his size.
It just didn't pan out when he got to Kentucky
to run the show.

Philadelphia to Quade's high school. I set parked outside his
high school for like five hours. Waiting to get ahold
of him, went to his game, interviewed him, met his family.
I thought he was gonna really pan out, and he
wasn't bad. I mean, he played two years here, but
his second year is when Shae Gilgas Alexander stepped in
and became a star.

Back in the Tubby era. Ryan Hogan, who was Kevin
Greeby's nephew, he came here and didn't play that. He
went to Iowa and had a good, good couple of
years for the Hawkeyes.

Speaker 5 (40:24):
Remember him too, I'm not I'm not helping your game.
I remembering all these people.

Speaker 2 (40:27):
Well, you know when when you think about the great players,
those those names were easy to come by. The guys
that were kind of maybe didn't pan out or didn't
play as much, you kind of forget some of those
over the years. So it was a good little summer
exercise for us.

Thanks for bringing up Shading Sharp. I did forget about him. Yeah,
now I'm angry Shade and Sharp. He has to be
the biggest mystery of the col Era.

He's got injured teammates and he's sitting there watching him
from the bench, and Ractice.

So a big night at chast Bar and Grill tonight.
We got Singo at seven o'clock. I know even Marry
Joe Parino is coming to Singo tonight.

And I forgot to have a big dinner. I'm gonna
be wearing a suit at the TBT game tonight. So
when you look at me, I didn't just get dressed
up for the game, even though I'm excited. I just
have a double header downtown.

So you're going from a big formal dinner in your
suit across the street to Rapperena.

Thank god the games at nine. Yeah, I have a
dinner at seven. Feel like I'll just I'll be ready
to go. I'll just walk across the street and be
in there now.

The game is televised tonight.

Speaker 5 (41:35):
Yes, FS one F S one, But you should go
you should go. If you can't go watch on FS one.
But I better see a pat crowd in Rupperena. And
we need to get serious about this. It's been so
fun to the first two. They're in the round of sixteen,
looking ahead to Louisville. It's the last game in Lexton.
