Speaker 1 (00:00):
This this Kentucky Sports Radio present it by Stockton Mortgage.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Now here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 3 (00:06):
Welcome into KSR. This is Drew Franklin. It is not
Matt Jones. I am filling in for Matt Jones and
filling in for Ryan Lemon, who's a little bit under
the weather today, so he stayed home to let us
drive the ship. I have Billy our Sports staying through
after the pre show hanging out. He'll be joining the
discussion today. We're gonna bring Mario on the air. I
know everybody likes hearing from Mario. And of course, Shannon

(00:27):
the Dude is in the Louisville studio. Shannon, we're sponsored
by TJ Smith. What is the TJ's gonna make us do?

Speaker 4 (00:33):
Make them do? Not make us do? Make them do?

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Call TJ. You'll make them pay.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
And as always, we'd like to hear from you on
the Clark's Pumping Shop phone line at eight five nine
two eight oh two two eight seven. But we're gonna
get straight to that phone line because if I'm not mistaken,
do we already have Matt Jones on the phone from Aspen, Colorado.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
The Birthday Boy is on Happy birthday, Matt's.

Speaker 5 (00:55):
What's going on, fellas, thank you for stepping in.

Speaker 6 (00:58):
I'm sitting here.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
Happy birthday. We got to sing for him. We gotta
sing much.

Speaker 6 (01:05):
No, that's all right. I don't need you. I don't
need I definitely don't need hear Mario sing. Thank you,
Aul We I'm here looking at the rocky mountains and
just a couple of just one thing before we get
going to all the listeners. Everybody, keep keep rying in
your thoughts to day. We don't totally know his situation,
so if you get a chance, just keep him in

(01:27):
your thoughts. And Drew, I know you you agree on that.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Absolutely started feeling a little sick last night and told
us this morning he needed to rest up a little bit.
So we're gonna give him as much time as he
needs and hope he can get that figured out. So
we're all thinking of him. We'll be just fine without him.
It's good to have you on here. On what number
of birthday is this?

Speaker 6 (01:46):
Yeah, I mean it depends on who you ask, right,
Like it depends on it depends on who you're talking to,
like what what numerology system you're using.

Speaker 5 (01:54):
But some people would say forty six.

Speaker 6 (01:57):
I'm not really going to accept that, but yes, that's
today and I'm here at the our Aspen retreat. We
are reading like I've got four hours of discussion starting
here in about fifteen minutes. So you know, it's the
kind of thing you want to do on your birthday, Shannon,
just sit around, talk a little bit about Marx and

(02:17):
Adam Smith and all the things I know you like
to do.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Oh yeah, that's what I do in my spare time now.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Max s Duffy was on with this yesterday and said
that you might have been involved in a play or something.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Was that Is that true? Was there a play yesterday?

Speaker 6 (02:31):
So no, that's that's tomorrow. There's this old Greek play Antigany.
Our group has to put a modern version of it on,
so we're actually not allowed to say you what we do,
like it has to be like secret.

Speaker 5 (02:47):
So it's been weird to with a bunch of other
adults like create a play. But you know this may
surprise you. I'm the narrator, so that's so radio guy.
You know they wanted me to do it.

Speaker 6 (03:02):
But that's tomorrow is the play.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
Normally we get together for your birthday, either do something
to chaos bar or have a dinner or something. Is
it a little weird being off in Colorado with your
uh uh your I won't call them your nerd friends
or your play friends.

Speaker 6 (03:15):
Well you can call them that.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
I think you're Shakespeare friends.

Speaker 7 (03:18):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (03:19):
Yeah, there was a there's a woman here whose birthday
was yesterday. So they had a cod birthday party for
the two of us last night, which was nice. You know,
they brought out uh they brought out bourbon and you know,
I didn't drink it, but they brought out for everybody else.
They had cake for.

Speaker 5 (03:34):
Us, and saying, so, yeah, it's been a.

Speaker 6 (03:36):
It's been a good birthday. But no, it's it's different
to be with they're not strangers anymore, but people I
don't know as well. But uh, it's a good group.
We're a very nerdy group. It works out. But I
will say, is I you know, first week in college
football is next week and nobody here wants to talk
about it.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
I wanted to as there any like Kentucky fans or
maybe just sports fans in general of anything at all.

Speaker 8 (03:59):
No.

Speaker 9 (04:00):
Yeah, there's like, so there's a state legislator from Georgia
here who's a big sports fan, so he and I
talk sports some, but in general it's one of those things.
They'll go like, who who there was a guy Kentucky
I've heard of what was his name? And then I'll
be like John cal Perry and they'll say, no, it's
like Patino and like that's their reference point. So yeah,

(04:24):
so I the sports talk has gone away a little bit.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
We haven't heard much of what the scene is like there.
You're not in Aspen, are you like somewhere where you
can still sneak away and get your diet coke? Are
you completely off the grid?

Speaker 9 (04:36):
I mean Bailey, Colorado at this resort that's absolutely amazing,
Like it's like insanely nice.

Speaker 6 (04:43):
It's got four or five big buildings. Everybody has their
own cabin. But like we're the only people here and
we can't leave. Now. Now there's a huge Like we're
in a huge like you're in the Rocky Mountains and
you can go for walks and they've got like a
swimming pool, asauna, uh, cold plungs.

Speaker 5 (05:01):
They got all this stuff.

Speaker 6 (05:02):
But like you can't just go to the store and
get a diet coke.

Speaker 5 (05:05):
But they do have them Shannon for free.

Speaker 6 (05:07):
Yeah, so I've just been like drinking the hell out
of it throughout the thing.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Now, you said that you had to do a lot
of reading before this trip, and you told us that
you didn't get all that reading done, but.

Speaker 6 (05:17):
You said I finished it.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
You said, sometimes though, they'll just call on you and
ask what you think about it. So I need to know, like,
did you have to be as your way through an
answer when you got called on at any point?

Speaker 5 (05:26):
I haven't yet.

Speaker 6 (05:27):
I'm taking the strategy of the ones i've read, volunteer
during that so there I used to do the same
thing exactly.

Speaker 5 (05:37):
So you know, like today there's six readings.

Speaker 6 (05:40):
I think I finished four, So my goal is to
like get my words out during that and then they
can call on somebody else during the two that I
haven't finished.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
Are you still filling the football around the corner though,
even though you're far away, I know you'll be back.

Speaker 6 (05:55):
Can't wait. I mean, unlike when I went to Europe,
I'm following everything online and looking forward to it. I
didn't understand. I know Max probably talked about the punter decision,
but maybe you can tell me, Drew. I noticed on
the depth chart guys like Derrick Jackson not even listed
as a certain starter.

Speaker 5 (06:12):
Is that surprising?

Speaker 6 (06:13):
I mean I haven't been around for you all to
talk about it, but they're like alex Afari not listed
as a certain starter. Were you surprised by that at all?

Speaker 3 (06:22):
There were a few oars that I think surprised people,
but the punting situation just has people up in arms.
I mean, it's just disbelief around town that Lero's from
South Africa isn't the punter and they're going back to
Wilson Berry. Max even suggested that maybe he kicks it
too far, which sounds crazy, but Max himself couldn't believe it.
I mean, we've heard from him, We've heard from people

(06:42):
that have gone to the scrimmages and said that the
punter was the standout of everyone on the entire team.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
And then Mark Stoops kind of threw us for a
loop there on Monday.

Speaker 6 (06:50):
Yeah. I don't understand that. I don't. I don't.

Speaker 5 (06:53):
I don't get it. I mean I generally.

Speaker 6 (06:55):
Take the view that, like, you trust the coaches who've
been at practice because we have not, but that one
surprises me. I mean, I don't know why you bring
in an FCS all American and it's not like our
punting was good last year. Our punning was one hundred
and in the sec. So the idea that you would
bring the same guy back to do it makes almost
no sense to me. So when we placed other myths,

(07:17):
hopefully we don't have to punt much. But I am
going to be kind of looking at that Shannon and seeing,
you know, it's just an odd decision, but we'll see.
I mean, ultimately, at least with punning, we'll know because
it's not like you could hide whether or not the
guy's doing well. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Max was was very open about his opinion on that,
and you know, kind of confused, like the rest.

Speaker 6 (07:36):
Of Max helped getting there, So I'm sure he's even
more frustrated. You know, you sell a kid on coming
and then he doesn't start.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Max also said, you know, we got to stop having
this mentality of Okay, this is going to be a
tough schedule that we have this year. He said, you know,
if we're going to get to that next level, and
I think he picked did he picked ten wins yesterday
on the show Drew for Kentucky this year.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
I think ten he went higher than anyone else.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
But he was saying, you know, we got to stop
using this schedule excuse and just realize every year it's
gonna be tough and we've got to start beating staying that.

Speaker 6 (08:06):
I understand that, and I'm not disagreeing with him. It
is interesting he picked that because you know last year
he was pretty negative going in the season. He thought
last year he picked us going seven and five, and
then we did, which at the time was considered negative.
I understand what he's saying, but you also have to
remember what I would say about Max is the same
thing I would say about a lot of young guys

(08:27):
men and women that talk online like Max wasn't you
know Max didn't follow you K football when we sucked, Right,
So Max has always kind of known us as a
team that could challenge for nine or ten. But he's right,
I mean, we need to we need to hope and
like want us to get to nine and ten. The
schedule is not an excuse because we're gonna keep playing it.

(08:49):
At the same time, though, you know, there's gonna be
two or three teams, four teams in the SEC. They're
gonna have four wins this year, and I think it's
gonna be good if we're not one of them. I
don't think we will be, but I still maintain you
have seven year wins that should be like an average year,
and if you get to eight or nine, that's a
pretty dagone good year.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
Even though football is around the corner, it's not the
biggest story in Lexington this week. Are you sad that
Dolly Parton is in town or was in town last night? Well,
you were out in Colorado.

Speaker 6 (09:21):
I can't believe it. I missed it. You know, in
our discussion the other day, Shane, you would have been
proud of me. I quoted Dolly Parton not once, but twice.
Very hard kid. Yeah, no, I quoted Dolly Parton lyrics twice.
So when I saw she was in Lexington with the governor,
I couldn't believe it was that one of her like

(09:41):
was that her library things she does at Dolly's Library.

Speaker 5 (09:44):
Is that what it was?

Speaker 8 (09:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (09:45):
Exactly what imagination library?

Speaker 6 (09:48):
So yeah, so I would have if I'd been in town,
I would have gone. She's one of my heroes. I
saw her at Center College a few years ago. So, uh,
I'm sad I missed it.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
Could you again, like maybe like a Snoop Dogg reference
At some point point during when you're talking today with
the crew, You know no.

Speaker 6 (10:04):
I mean like, yes, all right, I'll tell you what
I will try. It's going to be you know, we
today we read the Communist Manifesto and Adam Smith on capitalism.
It is gonna be hard to work in.

Speaker 5 (10:15):
Snoop dogg.

Speaker 6 (10:16):
If anyone has a suggestion on how to do it,
I'll check the text machine seven seven two seven ten
four five two five four. If you know, there is
so much money in the LBC. But I don't know
if that's going to fit into the conversation.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
Some feeling like you can work in like drop it
like it's hot somehow. I mean, yeah, you can do that.

Speaker 5 (10:38):
We'll see.

Speaker 6 (10:39):
We'll see if Adam Smith dropped it like it's hot.
I'm not sure if he did or not, but we'll see.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
We hope they give time to celebrate your birthday today.
I know, being a narrator of Socrates isn't exactly a
big birthday party. We wish you were here we could
celebrate with you, but on behalf of everyone looking at me,
we got Billy Mario Shannon's talking to you. A big
happy birthday from the crew, and we can't wait to
see you when you get back.

Speaker 6 (11:02):
Yeah, I will be there, So I'll be there Saturday
for the game. I hope to see everybody come by
KSR before the game. We open at eleven and we'll
have the games at seven forty five, and we'll be
there at three point thirty for the pregame. But there'll
be people in and out there all day. Hope to
have a couple of special things happening during that day.
And then you know, I'm sure you guys have talked
about there's a special offer with DraftKings that so I

(11:25):
hope everybody will stop by. I'm looking forward to being back.
I get back really late on Friday night, and.

Speaker 5 (11:31):
I'll check in with you again before then this week.

Speaker 6 (11:33):
And listen, everybody, keep rying in your thoughts, okay, and
these guys will kill it, Drew Shannon, enjoy yourself running
the show and I will see you later. Yep.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
Go get some cake and happy birthday.

Speaker 6 (11:46):
All right, thank you?

Speaker 8 (11:47):
All right?

Speaker 4 (11:48):
Was that already a call of the day?

Speaker 2 (11:50):
I think that is is.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
That our Don Franklin auto call of the day should
go ahead and do that, Billy. We're gonna check that
one off the I think so.

Speaker 8 (11:56):
Yeah, let's mark it off the list.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
We also have to get to the Whiskey Thief song
of the day, no No Darius record today, Shannon Ryan,
Ryan's not here.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
We're gonna take a day off.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
I don't have to play it to the crowd with
Ryan not being here today, so we'll make sure we'd
throw in something else.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Who do you like, Drew, Who's your favorite?

Speaker 3 (12:14):
I'll come up with one before as the show goes on.
We also have our Kentucky branded tweet today. We'll get
to if you want to text Ryan's text machine, tell
him get to fill in better. That one's five O
two seven three five three six eight oh so two
text machines there. We got a little thrown off today, guys.
I was in a dentist chair just a few minutes ago,
not even expecting to be here on time. I didn't

(12:37):
catch much of the pre show. We've we found out
about Ryan this morning, so we're a little thrown off.
Is everybody prepared, Mario? You're gonna you're gonna yap with
us today?

Speaker 10 (12:44):
Yeah, I feel like I'm pretty prepared.

Speaker 11 (12:46):
You know, I only do one hour radio a day,
but you know what, I think I can triple it
today and help you guys out. But we've already we've
already had some fun and in honor of Matt's birthday,
well we'll carry on and do the same, I think.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
Yeah, normally we'd have a lot of notes, a lot
to talk about we were. We kind of left that
in Ryan's hands. We're a little unprepared. I'm still feeling
little of the effects from the dentist, but we'll get through.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
What would you get done?

Speaker 4 (13:06):
Was it just a cavity filling?

Speaker 3 (13:08):
Oh no, no, no, no cavities here. I take too
good care of these, just regular cleaning. It was pretty
standard procedure. Got my got my floor, eyde, you know
all that stuff. I did hear that a UK wide
receiver had just been in there over a Justice Dentals
centl So at least me and Baryon Brown going to
see the same disneys getting our tooth.

Speaker 4 (13:24):
I'm just getting ready for the season.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
But we want to hear from you all, especially today.
H on the Clark's pump Shot phone line at eight
five nine two eight oh two two eight seven. I
want all of our callers to have a good Matt story. Yeah,
we're gonna turn this into a birthday party. Uh, Mario,
you said that like you've already got some, so hang
on to those. We'll share ours throughout the show. Billy,
you got a few Matt stories? Yes, we can tell.
I got a couple, good or bad. If you want
to roast him, you can. Uh today, We'll let that

(13:48):
happen on his forty sixth birthday?

Speaker 4 (13:50):
Is that what we confirmed?

Speaker 1 (13:52):
Fifties coming up? Fifties not too far down the road, man.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
I gotta be honest. I thought he was younger than that.
I've been I must have been looking at the Facebook number.

Speaker 8 (14:00):
Yeah, what's his what's his Facebook number?

Speaker 1 (14:02):
He's been twenty nine for twenty years.

Speaker 4 (14:06):
He's in your high school class. He's twenty nine on Facebook.
It depends what app you're looking at.

Speaker 11 (14:10):
And I don't think you can change it.

Speaker 4 (14:12):
So like, I think.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
That's not true. Don't tell me you can't change it.
I guarantee you he doesn't want to change it.

Speaker 11 (14:20):
Well I wouldn't either.

Speaker 6 (14:22):
He's twenty.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
Just wherever you look, he's got a different names there.
And I believe Ryan had a schedule to talk to Tom
Hart being a Wednesday, so I just checked with Tom.
He's still going to join us for a segment at
ten thirty, so Shannon will get him on the phone line.
So you got the crew of Drew, Shannon, Billy O,
Billy O, Billy and Mario. We're gonna add a little
Tom Hart and we'll get through this and have a
fun day as we count down the football season.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
This is KSR. We'll be right back.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
Welcome back to Kentucky Sports Radio. Drew Franklin here sitting
with Billy R, Sports Super Mario and we have Shannon
the Dude produced in the show out of Louisville.

Speaker 4 (14:56):
Give us a call at.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
Eight five nine two eight oh two two eight seven.
Want to hear from you today, whether you want to
talk a little football, or you want to roast Matt
Jones on his birthday, whatever you have to say, we'd
love to take your calls and hear from you again.
That's a five nine to two two eight seven. Shaney
already said there's a few people on there, so let's
just go and run through them and keep those lines
for you today.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Yeah, phone lines are full. Let's go to Dylan.

Speaker 4 (15:19):
Dylan, thanks for calling in.

Speaker 12 (15:21):
What's up Drew? How are you doing today, Buddy?

Speaker 3 (15:23):
I'm excellent now that I'm hearing from you where you
got for us.

Speaker 12 (15:26):
So I actually was just calling because it was Matt's birthday.
I wasn't planning on calling, but I just wanted to
give Matt like a super big shout out. He sat
down with me the other day at the iHeart Studios
and did like a behind the scenes thing, and on
his birthday, I just wanted to call in and say
happy birthday and thank you, and he kind of went
into some stuff he doesn't normally go into on the

(15:48):
radio and kind of got behind the scenes on his
life and kind of his day to day life, and
on his birthday, I just wanted to call on him
and say thank you for him doing that.

Speaker 8 (15:56):
I hung out.

Speaker 12 (15:56):
I got to hang up with Billy that day and
just kind of testify how guy awesome you guys are
behind the scenes.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
Yeah, I thank you for calling in.

Speaker 6 (16:03):
Done.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
I didn't place you there. I just had a first name.
Now I know this is Dylan Ballard. Yeah, you came
into our Hearts studios and Matt sat down with you
for a while. Shout out the name of the podcast,
and if you want to tell us a little bit
what you all got into, let us know what all happened.

Speaker 12 (16:15):
Yeah, yeah, I normally don't wouldn't do this, And I
know you guys aren't like big on like promotion stuff.
But the reason that I called me in Matt were
text in last night, and I'm kind of glad he's
not on, so I give a brag on him. The
podcast is called Success Stories Unplugged Matt. Matt came on
the show with me and sat down. We did about
an hour and ten minutes, and as busy as Matt is,

(16:36):
there a couple of times he's like, Matt, I can't
let you go, and he's like, no, We're just having
a great conversation. And we actually went behind the scenes
of like math rise to Success, and we talked about
like people that are high functioning, people like you in
their fields, just the day to day struggles that people
don't see. And the man actually got in and talked
about some things on his raisings, his roots, his faith,

(16:57):
and just some other things on there, and Matt retweeted
the tweeted about the recap of the whole episode. There's
some stuff that, like he said, not really radio topics
that you can kind of do on a podcast. I
won't get into those on the radio, but like it
was just I knew it was around his birthday and
he was busy about to travel it.

Speaker 6 (17:12):
Just got back.

Speaker 12 (17:13):
So a huge birthday shout out for him for willing
to do that. And I think it was a really
good time because he said that the reason he kind
of did it with me. You know, he gets asked
to be on lots and lots of shows. It was
some topics because everybody just wants to ask him about sports,
or ask him about wrestling, or ask him about the Netflix.
But it was a good opportunity for me and Matt
to talk about some things that like may help people
who are struggling, or may help people in their everyday

(17:34):
life or people trying to get to the top, or
just to get to know a side of math that
you can't really bring up.

Speaker 8 (17:39):
On a two hour radio show with breaks and calls.

Speaker 12 (17:41):
And things like that. And it was just a really
great conversation. And we've already had a ton of people
reach out saying it's really encouraged them and help them
that were struggling. So I just huge shout out to
Matt and do you guys for feeling the way he's
gone this week? But me and him were texting about
it last night. I have already some stories and testimonials
of him going behind the scenes of his everyday life
and helping some folks out that may be struggling out there.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
And that's called success stories. Unplugged, right is the name
of your podcast.

Speaker 12 (18:07):
Yep, there you go, and Matt Matt put it out there.
So a huge shout out to Matt and happy birthday
to him. And I'll see you guys. I'll probably see
you got some point this week, but hopefully everybody has
a great opening week and you guys have a blessed day.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
All right, Thanks for calling in, Dylan. We're looking forward
to seeing you Saturday. It's Dylan Ballard. There's a lot
of great work covering UK for Sea of Blue. It's
like the man's got like five jobs. He preaches on Sunday,
then he dabbles in real estate podcast.

Speaker 4 (18:34):
What does he not?

Speaker 3 (18:35):
Do you know mar or you know Dylan Marrio? Is
that man not just working around the clock.

Speaker 8 (18:39):
It's all over the place, man. Yep.

Speaker 4 (18:41):
Good to hear from him, though, Shannon, who's next on
the phone line?

Speaker 1 (18:43):
Before we go to the phone lines, I got a
little update on Ryan, Okay, he is, he's rusting. He's
sleeping getting hopefully feeling better. But he's sleeping right now.
But this is so Ryan Lemon. Listen to this apparently
right now and all night long. The music from his
backyard was turned all the way up and it's still
going right now as we speak, blasting in his backyard.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
It's blasting that.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
The thing is, they can't turn it off because you
have to, like I guess, be connected to his WiFi
in order to turn it off, and we don't have
his phone to turn it off, so they.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
Get this music that's just blasting.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
And I guess it's been blasting since you know, he
got ill last night and had to go to the doctor,
and it's been going all night long.

Speaker 4 (19:29):
So if you're right, it sounds like there's a party
over Rents.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
Yes, it's been going on all night long and still
going right now.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
They can't turn off the music.

Speaker 4 (19:37):
There's no way that you can't unplug something the wall.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
I'm just telling you the report that I got.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
You have to be connected to the Wi fi to
turn it off, so I guess Josiah or somebody has
to come in and turn it off later on.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
But it's going to be going for the next couple
of hours at least.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
I don't want to make light of Ryan's situation with Billy.
You mean, on a Wednesday morning, they're just blasting music
on the Ryan call to say while he's under the weather.

Speaker 11 (20:01):
He said he didn't want to hear Darius Rutger this morning. Well,
the people in that neighborhood have been hearing it for
five six hours at this point. Now, that is truly
the most Ryan Lemon thing I've I've heard.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
That, that really is. I'm sure his neighbors are loving
that too, but it's good to hear from him. Hopefully
well having back tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (20:16):
All right, let's go to Mike Mike, Yeah this Mike
down Mass and Veil grew.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
Oh yeah, I go Maroons.

Speaker 8 (20:25):
Two questions, Yeah, they're fired up.

Speaker 13 (20:28):
Two questions. Number one, is Matt still using Mulligan's and
counting them in his God game?

Speaker 8 (20:34):
Seriously? And number two?

Speaker 13 (20:37):
Uh, you just mentioned about his religion and the family religion,
which I understand, But what does his mom or he
think about him for voting, promoting gambling?

Speaker 3 (20:49):
Uh for a while, I mean, I can't answer for
him on that one. We appreciate the call, Mike. Uh,
I guess since he's doing it that they're all good
with it.

Speaker 8 (20:58):
I mean, legal big.

Speaker 4 (21:00):
Part of sports now.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
It's legally you can't watch a game without them working
it into either the commercials or the broadcast or the
signage in the stadium. So I guess he obviously is
cool that we get We do a podcast and promoted
all the time.

Speaker 11 (21:12):
It's about gambling and moderation. And he does provide a disclaimer,
whether spoken fast or or the correct speed it sometimes,
but he does, and I'm sure that Matt would would
love to hear more of that.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
Yeah, I know on the mulligans, I haven't played with
Matt in a while, but you know he likes a
couple hole.

Speaker 10 (21:30):
You know.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
I can't get him on though.

Speaker 3 (21:32):
It's because because you won't let him use mulligans. We're
big USGA guys. We like what they did with the
rule book. We like to play it down. If we
hit out of bounds, we like to take that extra
stroke and re t as we're supposed to.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
He just he plays by a different set of rules.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
Yep, yep.

Speaker 11 (21:45):
And uh, you know some guys will come in with
like a ridiculous score of like twenty two to twenty
three under on scrambles.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
He's not doing that.

Speaker 11 (21:51):
He's a respectable ten unders, So I think he does
play by the rules. But picking up putts is the
thing that I've heard about him.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
First time I played with him, there are four of us.
Three of us wrote our score down, and at the turn,
we're like, where's yours? And he said, I'll keep it
mind in my head, And then I think he hit
us all by one. It's like, well, of course, of
course you have us by one if we're all writ
him down as we go in there in your head.
But always a good time golf with Matt. We want
to keep having more Matt stories, Matt's birthday wishes, So
give us a call here on KSR. We'll be right back,
keeping this party going. It's Drew, Billy Mario, and Shannon

(22:20):
the Dude.

Speaker 4 (22:20):
TJ Smith personal injury attorney. Call TJ. He'll make them pay.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
Now more Kentucky Sports Radio present it by Stockton Mortgage.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
Here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 4 (22:31):
Welcome back to KSR.

Speaker 3 (22:32):
This is Drew Franklin filling in for Matt Jones and
filling in for Ryan Lemon. Got Shannon the Dude, got
Billy O, got Mari Mario, And because it is a Wednesday,
we also have Tom Hart. He spent Wednesdays with us
all summer, so we thought we'd call Tom up this
week before he comes to Lexing and to check in
with him before his football season gets really busy. Uh, Tom,
how's it going? And welcome back to the airwaves.

Speaker 8 (22:55):
Hold on, did you just refer to Billy as Billy? Oh? Billy?

Speaker 6 (22:58):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (22:58):
Yeah, yeah, I've been You sound very.

Speaker 8 (23:01):
Much like Ryan this morning.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
I mean, look, I found out I was hosting while
I was in the dentist chair. I have floor out
all in my mouth. I'm just trying to get through
this show, Tom. To be honest with you, Billy oh.

Speaker 8 (23:14):
Billy Oh, it's kind of like Steve O. You have
take any numbing agents this morning, because that would have
been awesome trying to host with a numb mouth.

Speaker 3 (23:23):
No, but I found out I was hosting while I
was there, and Shannon texted me to order the laughing gas,
so I tried to get a little bit of that,
but they wouldn't come off of it, just a routine cleaning.

Speaker 8 (23:33):
It was nice of Shannon to play some Billy Idol
for Ryan coming back. I'm I'm sure Ryan is hyper
dialed in this morning. He's got nothing else going on.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
I imagine that's what Ryan's backyard sounds like right now.

Speaker 8 (23:45):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
You probably didn't hear the segment before that, but Ryan
left his house with the music blasting in his backyard
and he's not home right now to turn off the music.
And the only way you can turn it off turn
it off is if you can connect to the Wi Fi.
So right now his neighbor are probably listening to Billie
Idol and Darius Rucker.

Speaker 8 (24:02):
But oh yeah, that is off.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
Yeah, yeah, So what do we think about this weekend?

Speaker 2 (24:09):
Tom Cat?

Speaker 5 (24:12):
Yeah, Lexington were to coming up there?

Speaker 8 (24:15):
Lexington? Yeah, let's do it. Maybe it's swinging by Buffalo Trace.
I don't know, let's make it fun. I think of
Southern Miss, just to be a football nerd for a second, Like,
Southern Miss in the nineties was a really good program.
And I'm not even talking about like the Brett Favre stuff.
Like Southern Miss in the nineties and early two thousands

(24:35):
was and it's not SEC caliber, but they were on
par with Memphis and Tulane and even East Carolina. Now
they've they've really fallen off over the last handful of
years and made some questionable coaching hires. They've been surpassed
greatly from an economic standpoint. Their total I was so
their total athletics department budget is roughly half of what

(24:58):
an SEC school makes from its TV deal alone, So
that is a fraction of what they've been So they've
really they've really fallen behind. Now they've got some skill guys,
and they've got some guys can play. You know, Tate
Ronnemaker was at Florida State last year and played in
the ACC Championship game as quarterback. I think he'll be

(25:20):
starting a quarterback. You know. They got some old miss
and Mississippi State guys sprinkled through the defensive backfield and
on the offensive line. And then I was just going
through some stuff today. We're gonna talk with with both
coaches this morning and this afternoon. But Will Hall is
their head coach and he was coaching at West Georgia
beck In you know, ten years ago with Division two

(25:43):
and he coached against the guy West Alabama named Tyreek Hill.
And yesterday when he met with the media, Will Hall
said that Barryon Brown is the best returner he's ever
coached against, and noted that he coached against Tyreek Hill.
So that is an incredible compliment. It also leads me
to believe they will not kick the ball anywhere near

(26:05):
barry On Brown on Saturday night.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
We thought all teams were done kicking it to barry
On Brown. Then Louisville did in the Governor's Cup at
the end of the season last year. So we're glad
and someone out there still does it. We're not expecting
a lot of it from Southern Miss. You mentioned they've
been slipping a little bit, but we haven't forgotten. Kentucky
lost to Southern Miss in Lexington in twenty sixteen and
then almost lost it in Hattiesburg, Mississippi a year later.
That was a touchdown game. Are you saying we don't

(26:28):
have to go in with any fears of losing Week
one to an out of conference opponent.

Speaker 8 (26:34):
Well, I mean I would never. I would never encourage
anyone to overlook an opponent. I just think in this
day of what the budgets have become, in this nil world,
that the talent disparity is as likely as great as
it's ever been between the two programs, and I know
it was less than a decade ago that Kentucky lost
to the Southern Miss program. It's just different now. You

(26:59):
know they've been they went down. They kind of went
down in conferences from CUSA to Sunbelt, although sun Belt
is a great football league, but they've just been they've
been surpassed, and you know there's not going to be
much depth there. They're going to be fired up and
they recognize that it's an SEC opponent and a chance
to make some headlines and come out with a key win.

Speaker 6 (27:21):
They played a.

Speaker 8 (27:21):
Lot of SEC schools over the years. But no, to
be perfectly honest, and I won't say this Saturday night
on the broadcast. I would not want it to come
across disrespectful to Southern Miss. And we'll wait and see
if it's a game in the second half. But I
think given what Kentucky has coming up on its schedule
in the very near future, I mean, we know what
South Carolina did against them in Lexington. We know what

(27:44):
Georgia has done against Kentucky over the years. This is
a this is a let's get right and make sure
we're in the right friend of mine because we got
a couple of major conference games before the calendar turns
out of September.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
You mentioned you were about to talk to both head
coaches coming up. Get ready to preview the game. You
know it's your first one of this season. You're back
with your crew of Jordan and Cole. What is it
your seven? Did I see that? Seven years with those guys?

Speaker 8 (28:12):
This are eighth year You've had the longest tenured trio maybe,
I think in all of college football. Actually, I know
we are at ESPN. Fowler and Herb Street have been
together a little bit longer, but they've rotated through sideline reporters.
So yeah, play by play analyst, sideline longest going at ESPN.
And I don't think I don't think anybody I know,

(28:35):
nobody's CBS has been together as long as we have.
I don't think anybody as a trio has been together
as long as we have at Fox either, So yeah,
it it helps. I mean, like you guys know this,
going to work with the same people every day. It
gives you a sense of comfort and security, and you
know what to expect from people, or you don't know
what to expect, and sometimes you get called in from

(28:56):
the dentist chair.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
Well, congrats on having the year eight with those guys,
the fans. I know we're very excited. You're our favorite bunch.
But I wanted to ask you know this is you
got your routine now, it's right in front of us.
You're talking to the coaches. You said today, But what's
it look like getting ready for a game between now
a Wednesday at ten forty and then the kickoff Saturday night?
What is on Tom Hart's plate in the day's ahead?

Speaker 8 (29:18):
What is on my plate? So busy day today with
calls and zooms and whatnot. I'm coming over there, coming
up there tomorrow. I'll go to practice tomorrow afternoon. Friday.
We've got some you know, some stuff playing to try
and get some flavor around town. I'm gonna try to leave.
I'm gonna try to leave the area with a ball

(29:39):
of pappy if we can see if let's see if
that can happen.

Speaker 6 (29:42):
There you go.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
I believe in you.

Speaker 8 (29:43):
Maybe, yeah, I think I can make it happen. Maybe
at steak dinner Friday night, and then then Jordan flies
in Saturday after his morning show. I think they're in
I should know this. I'm pretty sure, they're in Gainesville
for SEC Nation this weekend. Then we'll we'll tee it
up Saturday night. Our game goes a little bit later
than it used to. You know, we're they moved all

(30:06):
the star times back on the SEC network, So seven
forty five is It doesn't sound like much, but that
can be a big difference from seven thirty when you're looking,
you know, you're looking to grab some wings or watch
a fight postgame, as we have in years past.

Speaker 3 (30:20):
Yeah, that fifteen minutes will go a long way in
the Kroger Field parking lots too. I know some fans
they're excited for that extra fifteen minutes before kickoff.

Speaker 4 (30:27):
A question, Yeah, yeah, ask me all the questions you want.

Speaker 8 (30:31):
I mean, how difficult is it for you? Like when
did you finally make the transition to where Crowfield was
natural for you instead of Commonwealth Stadium.

Speaker 3 (30:43):
I was earlier than most. I know some people still
say Commonwealth. I just as a former.

Speaker 8 (30:47):
Hell out, your sellout, that's what you know.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
Listen, my first job was it Kroger. I was a
courtesy clerk making five dollars and ten cents an hour.
I just feel a loyalty to Kroger and that I
should say their name if there were any other entity.
Maybe I'm still calling it Commonwealth, but I just I
grew up in the in the Kroger farm system, and
I feel like I owe it to them. They spent
that money to call it that. So I jumped in
pretty early, even though it's I know it's not everyone

(31:12):
is even made that jumpy. A lot of people still
say Commonwealth and don't like it.

Speaker 5 (31:16):
Tom, Can you I hope you heard that.

Speaker 8 (31:18):
I hope you guys heard that. He said courtesy clerk.
He wasn't even trusty enough to be a bagger with
eggs and cans.

Speaker 6 (31:26):
You stand over there.

Speaker 8 (31:27):
If somebody wants to buy a lottery ticket, they can
come to you.

Speaker 3 (31:29):
Fun fact, the baggers are called courtesy clerks. They just
didn't think baggers sounded good. So no, I walked straight
in there and was separating people's milk and bleach like
I knew what I was doing.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
He called Drew a sellout.

Speaker 1 (31:42):
Now, can you work in Commonwealth Stadium into the broadcast
instead of Kroger filled on Saturday?

Speaker 2 (31:46):
Will you get in trouble for that?

Speaker 6 (31:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (31:48):
You sell out?

Speaker 8 (31:50):
I could have if we didn't publicize it because now
it seems intentional, and then I would get an angry letter. Kay,
but yeah, I listen. I kept with it the entire
first year. I called a Commonwealth Stadium the entire first year.
And I did get a couple of nudges, like, you know,
I love the sports information people over there, and they're

(32:11):
so nice to me. And there was a couple of hey,
you know, it's Kroger Field right right, you know, very
polite like dial it in or us we're gonna get
in trouble.

Speaker 3 (32:22):
Well, now you got poll it at Tennessee. I think
Kentucky maybe were just at the front of all this.
Now it seems all the stadiums have added a local
grocery or gas station or something to their stadium.

Speaker 8 (32:33):
I can't wait for the day we get Shannon the
Dude Field.

Speaker 2 (32:37):
Oh you know it's Jane.

Speaker 8 (32:38):
And the Dude Arena would be best. Right, Let's put
a put some rock concerts in there, and maybe maybe
I don't know, a wrestling ring, and let's call it
Shannon the.

Speaker 1 (32:47):
Dude Historic, Shannon the Dude Arena, just like Davis Arena.
Gotta throw historic in front of it to make it
seem more important.

Speaker 4 (32:54):
You know, we do that.

Speaker 8 (32:55):
You're not that old number one and number two. You
your branding would lose all recognition because everyone would just
shorten it to the dude, like, oh, it's not Shannon
the dude arena.

Speaker 6 (33:06):
Well, yeah, i'll meet you at the dude.

Speaker 8 (33:07):
What does that mean?

Speaker 1 (33:08):
As long as they don't call it. As long as
they don't call it STD arena, I think we'll be fine.

Speaker 6 (33:12):
That's sure.

Speaker 8 (33:13):
Yeah, there's the difference between hey, let's do some fireball
in the parking lot of the dude versus let's do
some fireball.

Speaker 10 (33:23):
So im I have to ask yet, I definitely have
to ask you. As you know, you know, this is
the time of the year where a lot of people
are making their predictions for you know, the record of
what Kentucky season is going to be. And I hate
to put you on the spot, but we can strictly
keep this between me and you. What is Kentucky's record
going to be this season?

Speaker 8 (33:45):
Well? I am horrible at predicting games. If if I
could predict games, i'd be living in Vegas and the penthouse.

Speaker 6 (33:52):
Sweet.

Speaker 8 (33:53):
All I know is that when I look at a schedule,
I look at what I consider to be swing games,
you know, not that you count losses, but I think
I think Georgia and Texas, just for example, are going
to be two very tall tasks to try and knock
off those two teams, as they would be for anybody
in the country. So getting South Carolina at home is big.

(34:15):
I think the ole Miss game being an eleven am
start in Oxford is a huge advantage. And I think
Auburn coming to town, Like I think Auburn is going
to be okay, I think they're they're they're better than
they've been in years past. So it's a it's a
six win floor, it's more likely to be an eight
win team, and if you can pull off an upset

(34:38):
or two, then you're in. You know, November is going
to start and you're in the college football playoff conversation.
And I think that's what I think the goal for
a lot of teams, not a stated goal, but I
think fan bases will get so much return out of
their seasons if the calendar turns to November and you're
sitting there with two losses or fewer, and you're thinking, okay,

(35:00):
we're in this and now all of a sudden, that
game in Knoxville is more important than it's ever been.
The game against Louisville is more important than it's ever
been to try and try and crack that code and
get into the playoff. I think it's huge.

Speaker 5 (35:15):
Tom.

Speaker 11 (35:15):
You mentioned that you're gonna sit down with the coaches
in preparation for this weekend, and you do a lot
of different games and a lot of different teams. Did
you ever meet a coach that was more personable than
you thought he would be, or did you ever hit
it off with one in particular.

Speaker 8 (35:29):
More personable? It's it's really interesting. I mean, we've done
enough Kentucky games over the years, especially when you pile
up games within the same season. It's always fun when
you sit down to you know, a big conference table
over there and Stoops walks in and he goes, well,
you guys know everything about the team, what are we
going to talk about? Like? Those are the most fun

(35:50):
for me because now you're building a relationship and you
can get into the nuance of, you know, the most
minute details. We went in for a meeting one time
and old Josh Allen that he was predicting his past
rush based on his footwork, and he was completely unaware,
and so we had him walk through what his footwork
looks like when he blitzes, when he drops into coverage,

(36:12):
when he plays the run, and he said, I didn't
I didn't realize it was that obvious. I know he's
changed his name since then, but everybody knows what I'm
talking about.

Speaker 6 (36:20):
So yeah, it's it's.

Speaker 8 (36:21):
Really enjoyable when you get to that point, when you
know it, when you don't have to ask about the
big picture stuff or just let's just talk about the
two D but I know all the players are. Let's
get into the nitty gritty of your team and your
program and where you stand. My favorite though, by far,
is there were times, or at least one time I

(36:41):
can remember specifically, We're in Tuscaloosa, and much to the
chagrin of their sports information director, he's trying to keep
the trains running on time. We asked Saban a question
that got him to stand up and go to the
grease board and start diagramming plays. And it was fascinating,
right because that is something that from a motivational talk standpoint,

(37:04):
corporations would pay tens of thousands, if not hundreds of
thousands of dollars for every coaching clinic from the world
wants to see Nick Saban at the Grease Sport And
here we are in a tiny little meeting room with
you know, four of us sitting around the table and
he's diagramming while he still wants to be pro style
in the red zone versus no huddle up tempo.

Speaker 6 (37:23):
It was.

Speaker 8 (37:24):
It was great.

Speaker 3 (37:25):
Well, Tom, thanks for joining our tiny little meeting room today.
We enjoyed hearing from you. This will probably be the
last Wednesday we have you for a while, so thanks
for doing one more for the season begins. We're really
looking forward to having you and your your crew being
our first broadcast crew for the first game coming up.
Can't wait to have you in Lexington.

Speaker 8 (37:42):
I can't wait to get the Drew. Do you still
have some of that gritty stuff on your teeth but
you're still feeling it perfectly?

Speaker 4 (37:48):
That's the worst is it coming through when I talk?

Speaker 8 (37:52):
I just know the feeling I've you know, I'm I'm
not anti dentite. I love going to the dentist.

Speaker 3 (37:59):
My dinnis just want to talk k football the whole
time too. Doc Thompson, So I had a little football this.

Speaker 8 (38:04):
Morning, can't you can't talk with somebody's fingers in your mouth,
Like that is the hardest thing ever. Like you ask
me questions and my head is tilted back with my
mouth bullet alive. But like I can't talk right now.

Speaker 3 (38:16):
But we had to cover where we're staying in Austin
and what we're gonna see out of Baron Brown this year.
So that's how my dnnist trimp with. But thanks for
joining us today, and like I said, we look forward
to seeing you this weekend. If you get into any bourbon,
let me know I'll take a little pour off of
whatever you end up with. And uh, looking forward to
see at Crogerfield.

Speaker 4 (38:31):
It's not before all.

Speaker 8 (38:33):
Right, gentlemen, My best of Ryan. I hope he's feeling.

Speaker 2 (38:35):
Better, all right, thank you?

Speaker 4 (38:39):
All right?

Speaker 3 (38:39):
That was the man Tom Hart nice enough to join
us during his busy week as he gets ready to
pretty much just give up his life to follow SEC
football around the South. But as I said, we're very
excited that we get them in week one. Billy is
they're a better crew than Tom Jordan Cole.

Speaker 11 (38:53):
Well maybe Tom Leach and Jeff Piccoro. That's true me
back in the studio. But if you're watching on TV.
Tom does a great job with all the references and
excited for him to be back in Lexington yep.

Speaker 3 (39:04):
And we're excited to get back after this break. We
have some phone lines to get to in more matt
and birthday celebrations, so stick with us. This is KSR.
Welcome back to KSR. This segment is brought to us
by our friends at Commonwealth Causes. They have their monthly
bourbon drawing coming up tomorrow night, and now is your

but that's why if you're like us and can't throw
up the twenty thousand dollars to get one, you enter

Speaker 4 (39:34):
It's got a display that lights up when you open it.

Speaker 7 (40:13):
I hope Ryan gets the filing better. And uh, happy
birthday to Matt. I've been wanting to call in for
a while about this story. My son and I drove
down from Buffalo to Pittsburgh last year and we were
in there for about three hours watching the live show
and everything, and we were in there for so long
that the computer reset. When it was time to leave,
they couldn't find a parking ticket, and we stood there

(40:35):
for about fifteen minutes, and you guys had already kind
of loaded up and everything.

Speaker 12 (40:38):
You were ready to go.

Speaker 4 (40:39):
I remember that.

Speaker 6 (40:40):
Matt.

Speaker 7 (40:41):
Yeah, Matt got out of the car and he came
back in and he was trying to make sure that
wasn't a money issue, and we told him that no,
it was a computer issue. Issue and they eventually just
let me go. But I thought that was super nice
and Matt, you know, he didn't have to do that,
he didn't have to come back and check on us.
I thought it was h a really cool move by Matt.

(41:02):
And then we followed you guys out and I got
to see one of the famous U turns.

Speaker 8 (41:06):
Yeah glad we got for you. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (41:11):
So I just want to call and tell a story.

Speaker 3 (41:13):
Yeah, well, thank you for calling in. We appreciate the call.
I remember you very well. Remember you all standing up
there trying to get that worked out when we were leaving. Uh,
not surprising that Matt wanted to help out, but we
appreciate that. Calling for another Matt Birthday wish. We'll keep
those going. After this break, we're gonna talk to Jack
Pilgrim to get some updates on Jasper Johnson and UK basketball.

Speaker 4 (41:30):
