It is number two here at Kentucky Sports Radio nine
two eighth, twenty two eighty seven at the Virginia in
downtown Somerset. Great, great crowd here, just awesome, very thankful
that everybody made the trip out here. This is one
of the best crowds we've ever had in Somerset. And
it is June. For goodness sake, the rest of you
(01:20):
couldn't get crowds like this for any other team sports
shows right before the biggest game of the year, So
to get so to get this in June, that's awesome, right.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
I gotta tell you something that's happening here later this month.
Speaker 5 (01:32):
What's that?
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Friday, June twenty seventh, John Schneider from the Dukes of
Hadri is gonna perform on this stage. But wait, there's more.
The next day, on Saturday the twenty eight the General
Lee is gonna jump the fountain here in downtown Somerset.
Speaker 6 (01:44):
That is amazing, is yes?
Speaker 5 (01:47):
Is that right? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:49):
And the generally is gonna jump.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
The generally is gonna jump. The fountain's right down here.
Speaker 7 (01:53):
See this fountain yet, But it's a good sized fountain, right,
I mean, we're are you Allen?
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Are you just closing the the streets and letting just
rogues run away from Boss Hog?
Speaker 5 (02:04):
Here in the middle of the street. It's a little
more sophisticated.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
All right, John Schneider, Well, wow, my uh, I don't
know my my high school mother when she would have
loved knowing that Johner.
Speaker 5 (02:16):
How old is John Schneider?
Speaker 4 (02:17):
Now he's gotta be in his seventies, I would think, is.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
Let's go see John Schneider rocking out. What was the
other guy's name?
Speaker 6 (02:24):
Do you know the other We talked about this?
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Tom Wope, ye ye yeah, eight zero twenty two eighty seven.
One person writes, Matt, I might have to listen to
Ross Ellinger interview. Yes, it's on the Matt Jones Show,
But I can't believe that Kentucky basketball was the team
to step up. Good for Mitch taking up for UK basketball. Well,
I don't know if it was Mitch or if it was
(02:46):
a coach. I just know that the he.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
Said, the dissenting voice in the room was UK basketball.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
And I think most of us agree. We're glad about that.
We think of our basketball program should get more money.
It's just if you're a football fan, that's not gonna
make you.
Speaker 5 (02:59):
Very happy baseball.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Let's say, all right, let's say they have to choose
between putting good money into baseball or women's basketball. You
gotta choose one of those two. Which one you choose it?
Shannon at Kentucky at Kentucky because like, there are some
schools that choice would be easy. Mississippi State, it's easy
do baseball. South Carolina, it's easy do women's basketball. What
(03:24):
are you doing at Kentucky?
Speaker 6 (03:25):
Okay? So, first of all, I would prefer to split
it evenly.
Speaker 7 (03:28):
But if you say you can't do that, I would
say you gotta give a little more to women's basketball.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
I think we have a better chance of being really
good at women's basketball than baseball, in part because of
just our weather, right, Like, I mean, we don't get
great weather until the season's almost over, whereas the teams
in Florida are playing in the sun all year round.
So and I just think our fan base has shown
more attraction to women's basketball. So I think I would
(03:55):
do women's basketball.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
What about you, I guess I'll get in the argument
for baseball. Then went to the college series. We did
last year.
Speaker 5 (04:02):
Matthew Mitchell, though consistently went to elite eights.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
I mean, we never made the final ever made the
final four.
Speaker 5 (04:07):
They went consistently to the light.
Speaker 6 (04:09):
But he's not here though, said Kenny Brooks has.
Speaker 5 (04:11):
Been to a Final four, so I mean you know
that he can do it.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
I guess as the SEC women's basketball programs gotten better
than ours, whereas our baseball program has gotten better than
other SEC baseball program, maybe.
Speaker 5 (04:24):
I'll end up being wrong.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
I think our women's basketball team has a chance to
be amongst the top three or four teams consistently starting
real soon. I mean, South Carolina's on a different level
and LSU is really good, but I don't see why
we can't slide into that third spot here pretty soon.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
And they've kind of proven that this past season. Only
got upset in the second round of the tournament, but
their regular season they were knocking off all the big schools.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Yeah, if I'm nine, two eight, twenty two eighty seven,
I'm gonna go the phones on the other issue. But
we wanted to play something, Shannon, you you showed me this.
Yes last night, you know the Nicks, excuse me, the
Pacers and the Thunder.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
Uh, it was a crazy game.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Thunder led the entire game, and then the Pacers made
a shot with zero point three seconds to take the lead.
And to win the game. Now you you mad. You've
probably seen the clip by now you've heard the announcers,
But I bet none of you have heard the Korean
call of the game. Have you heard? That was premature regulation?
Speaker 5 (05:28):
There?
Speaker 3 (05:28):
I need you to I need you to hang on.
Let me get the set up here. So this is
the uh, this is the the Korean call of the
of the Tyrese Halliburton shot last night.
Speaker 5 (05:41):
All right, go for it. Rick's stop?
Speaker 4 (05:53):
Ris, Okay, I got it.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
Rick. Are you not used to working Instagram? I think
that's part of the problem, is that, right?
Speaker 4 (06:00):
I've never used Instagram?
Speaker 5 (06:01):
Okay, so that's what I said. I'm just all right.
So Rick, let's rewind at the beginning of that clip.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
You played the end of it. Let's rewind at the beginning.
Let's see if we can play it from the beginning. Okay, Rick,
I'll try here.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
And there's no scale on here for to send it
back to the beginning, so hopefully.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
I don't know what that means, but Rick, I feel
like you can do it. Let's go, Rick, here you go.
Speaker 5 (06:39):
I love that. You know, we need Shannon that kind
of excitement, agree in our calls. We need a Wow,
at the.
Speaker 7 (06:49):
End, you hear that, Tom Hard, are you listening. That's
how our real broadcast is.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
How you do it right there till to mark. That's
how you get me into a game. Who's up next?
Speaker 4 (06:58):
God, Dwayne?
Speaker 5 (06:59):
Up next? Dwayne? Go ahead, Dwayne.
Speaker 8 (07:04):
We need screaming leaks to be like that at the
football games.
Speaker 6 (07:07):
And screams ever the scream about Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
We've always been screaming about is And we cut the
deficit to thirty So I think this will be this
will maybe this year will be better.
Speaker 8 (07:18):
So tell them about this money, Like, what about teams
like they I live up here close to Cincinnati, Teams
like Xavier that don't have a football program, how are
they getting going to get money?
Speaker 3 (07:29):
If Xavier could raise the money, which I don't think
they could raise this much, but if Xavier could raise
the money, in theory, they could spend all twenty million.
Speaker 5 (07:39):
Dollars on basketball and now in practice, what probably happens
with Xavier is that they use some of that money
to make their sports the other ones not lose money.
Because Xavier and schools like that lose a ton of
money on their other sports, they probably try to make
up their budget a little bit. But in theory, if
they wanted to, like.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
Saint John's is gonna be the one to do this,
the one I'm worried about Saint John's.
Speaker 5 (08:05):
Saint John's is gonna.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
End up having that Micropoli guy give him twenty million
dollars and say, put it all on basketball, all of
it win me a national championship. But there is nothing, sir,
to stop a Saint John's or a Xavier or one
of those schools that doesn't have football from doing just that.
Speaker 8 (08:25):
Okay, And I know you love jokes, and I've got
a great one.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
And plus you have this big crowd, and with this joke,
when this joke, I'm gonna have to see all these
sad faces in the crowd.
Speaker 8 (08:38):
Go ahead, Yes, did you hear about the new sport
called quiet tennis and played with no racket?
Speaker 6 (08:50):
You got a few chuckles?
Speaker 5 (08:52):
All right? See, this is why I'm doing this, is
why I don't do jokes. Allright, thank you very much.
I appreciate the call. Actually I don't appreciate it. I don't.
I don't like it one bit. Saint John.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
You know I was looking at the preseason top twenty five.
I don't know if you have looked at the top
twenty five next year, but you look at the top teams,
it's not what you're used to, right. Preseason number one
is Perdue.
Speaker 5 (09:25):
I mean Perdue. I know you hate Purdue.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
Per stink, but that's not doesn't work. Purdue is preseason
number one. I know Houston's been good recently, but Houston
is number two. Louisville's in the top ten, BYU's in
the top ten, Saint John's is in the top ten.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
Like it is a completely different set of teams.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Kentucky's there and Duke is there, but then there's like Michigan,
like it is not the traditional powers, and teams like
North Carolina are almost unranked. Kansas is like twentieth, which
is which you're not used to. It is like a
different set of teams kind of rising to the top
in this NIL era.
Speaker 7 (10:05):
That's interesting too, because I think a lot of people
thought that when NIL became a thing, that all the
smaller schools would get left behind.
Speaker 6 (10:11):
But then that doesn't reflect that in the top twenty five.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
I think what you see when you look at the
top twenty five is, with a couple of exceptions, Michigan
being one of them. You're seeing these programs kind of
doing this, well, why don't we just be good at basketball? Right,
Like Purdue's going, let's just be good at basketball, Like,
why should we be worried about everything else. That's what
Houston's doing BYU is spending a lot of money on
(10:37):
both sports, but they're putting a ton of money into basketball.
Speaker 5 (10:41):
I do think that that's when St.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
John's You're starting to see these programs who have been
dormant for a while realize nil is the way for
us to catch up.
Speaker 4 (10:50):
And I think this way it's gonna be for many
years to come, right. I mean, we're gonna this is
the world we're gonna live in now, where some of
these schools that have a big booster behind them, like Forpoli,
can fund a basketball protgam and vault them up in
the right.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
I also think Kentucky fans, we should be thankful for
Joe and Kelly Kraft, I mean for us being good.
Go look at what's happened to Kansas. Kansas is what
Kentucky would be if we.
Speaker 5 (11:16):
Didn't have them.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
Because Kansas could not get players this year, They've got
the number one dude, in the country out of high
school coming. But they lost Ryan almost every dude they
went for into portal like every guy because they did
not have money. They did not have the money, and
Bill self, all of a sudden has gone from a
guy top five every year to they could not get
(11:39):
players this year.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
Well they used to be. They always had the money bag,
you know, it's all they used to get some of
these guys.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
But when everybody else was playing zero, your million dollars works.
When everybody else is offering three million dollars and you
don't have it, I think you see what happened to
Kansas gotcha and they just it was reported that North
Carolina Shannon this morning. It was reported they've spent fourteen
million on their basketball roster.
Speaker 5 (12:02):
And they're not even preseason top twenty.
Speaker 7 (12:04):
How does that even happen for a North Carolina, a
blue blood school like that, to not be in the.
Speaker 5 (12:09):
Many Hubert Davis.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
I mean, if you have that money and you can't
even get a roster, then that's on you.
Speaker 5 (12:14):
Who's next?
Speaker 4 (12:15):
Mark is up next?
Speaker 9 (12:17):
Mark?
Speaker 5 (12:17):
Go ahead?
Speaker 10 (12:18):
Mark, Good morning, gentlemen. I missed the end of the
last first hour because once I got put on, it
was silence. But I don't know how you all ended
up talking about the football and all that. But if
you think back over, I mean, I've been a season
ticket holder since Couch was here. It's we're not expecting
(12:39):
to win national championships. We're just expecting to compete. But
the issue is they're gonna make football so expensive that
you can't afford to do it. Just as a general person,
and yeah, we want because we want to be able
to We want to be able to go tailgate tailgate
with our friends all day, have fun and see a
decent game. I don't care if you, okay, win six games,
(13:01):
three games, ten games, or national championship in football, It's
more about tailgating and the party and the experience I
have with my friend.
Speaker 8 (13:09):
Well, I mean we've talked, We've I agree with you
the reason we go.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
I totally agree with that. I appreciate the call. And
we've talked about you know, last twenty years, twenty five years,
Mitch Barnhart's been the ad. I think he's done a
lot of good stuff. Matter of fact, I think he
does good stuff he doesn't even get credit for. With
that said, maybe his biggest mistake has been the way,
they completely change slash ruined the football tailgating experience. You know,
(13:39):
when people have more fun coming to my bar than
being outside the stadium, it says a lot about what
it's like outside the stadium. And they really did screw that.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
Up, right, they did a lot of those fans that
they took away their spots. They have still not come back.
They're still hurt from when that happened.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
We have the worst, the worst tailgating scene in the
outside of any Vandy's the only one worse. I mean,
it's we don't do a good job with it. The
the scene in the ks Bar parking lot is better
than the scene outside of the stadium. And it shouldn't
be like that. I mean, I'm happy it's like that,
but it shouldn't be like that. And that's we did
(14:17):
that to ourselves.
Speaker 7 (14:18):
Yeah, callers right, I mean, football is an all day
event for a lot of fans. You know, it is
about hanging out with friends and tailgating and then going
to the game. You know, basketball you kind of go
to the game and that's it. You know, maybe you go,
you know, to KS Bar before, but.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
Yeah, basketball doesn't have that pregame thing that you that
you do with football. The eyes of the horse racing
world are on New York this weekend for the Belmont.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
Who you got by the way?
Speaker 4 (14:40):
Journalism? I've been on journalism the whole way.
Speaker 7 (14:42):
I couldn't name you another horse. Sovereignty, but how is.
Speaker 6 (14:46):
A lucky guess?
Speaker 5 (14:47):
So which one you want?
Speaker 6 (14:48):
Sovereignty?
Speaker 3 (14:48):
You gotta take sovereignty. I bet sovereignty at Derby. I'm
taking journalism at the Belmont. But you can do either
one of them. With the number one Downloaded horse Betting app,
the DK horse app app. Bet five dollars or more

Speaker 3 (15:11):

two hundred thousand dollars only at DraftKings.
Speaker 5 (15:16):

Speaker 5 (15:34):
We'll take a break and be right back. This is
Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at the Virginia Great Crowd,
historic theater in downtown Somerset, constructed by te Jasper who
named it after his daughter Virginia.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
So that's why they know in Virginia.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
That was if you were wondering that it's become one
of the best small venues in Kentucky.
Speaker 5 (16:00):
Great.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
I love the two decks and thanks to all the
folks who even sitting there on the top deck. Free
food from Penn Station out there. They have beer and
soda to sell. And Shannon will be playing here tonight
at eight.
Speaker 6 (16:12):
O'clock looking forward to.
Speaker 5 (16:13):
Us the same stage that John Schneider will walk on
here and just.
Speaker 7 (16:18):
See you got it all backwards. John Schneider's gonna be
walking on the same stage Shannon to du.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
Before there we go, There we go, and then you're
gonna jump over the fount tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (16:26):
No, I won't be doing that.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
One person writes on the text machine seven two seven
to seven four five two five four any concern about
money being shared equally between men's and women's sports.
Speaker 5 (16:39):
Short answer to that is I don't think.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
So let's go back when when inn Aisle started the
Biden administration, the DOJ put out an opinion that they
thought it needed to be shared.
Speaker 5 (16:51):
I think they said relative to the popularity. The Trump
administration did away with that.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Still someone could sue, but I don't think they would
force it to be equal. We've talked about Title nine.
It's a very specific law. I actually don't think it
will matter if the money is equal or not. They
still have to provide the same number of scholarships, but
they do not have to provide the same amount of revenue.
(17:18):
That's generally how it's been interpreted. What I do think
is in trouble at UK. But at a lot of
schools are sports that have big rosters that don't bring
in money. So if you sit there and think what
are sports with big rosters that don't have money, I
think in this new revenue sharing era, they're in trouble.
(17:41):
So swimming is an example of something with a big
roster that doesn't bring in money.
Speaker 5 (17:48):
That's the kind of sport that I don't think, like
golf's in trouble or tennis.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
But I think these sports that's where I would worry.
I think the only sports I think are safe football,
men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, they're safe. I think
everybody else, it depends, men's and women's soccer probably safe
because of the scholarship stuff. But then there's some other
(18:16):
sports where I think it starts to get a little
a little tricky.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
And then you got a guy like Craig Skinner.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
If you uka volleyball, lot volleyball is safe too. I
forget boy, but volleyball's safe too.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
He's baratly thinking, man, I just won a national championship.
Can I get a little piece of that pie?
Speaker 3 (18:27):
That's a really good I didn't even think about that
when you're talking about baseball, women's basketball. Do you see
some for volleyball? I mean, we've won a title in volleyball.
Speaker 6 (18:35):
Is it women's gymnastics really good at Kentucky too?
Speaker 5 (18:38):
I mean yeah, but I don't think it's full scholarship,
So I don't think. I don't. I don't think it will.
Speaker 7 (18:42):
If the Skinner has definitely a good argument. Yeah, national title,
can't get an I.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
On my completely completely slipped my mind there. Tell me
about the baseball Sweet sixteen's going on. I saw the
Wolf County Wolves, who were in their first state tournament
in like thirty years. They won last night beating your
Harrison County.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
Mac Whittakers beat mac Whittiger and Harrison County as a
big win for Wolf County four to three.
Speaker 5 (19:08):
They were down three to nothing and scored four runs
in the last inning.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
They did.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
Yeah, they walked it off. Wow in the last inning.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
Uh, we didn't do too well in our picks yesterday.
Speaker 5 (19:17):
Okay, go for it.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
Boyd County beat Boyle County.
Speaker 5 (19:20):
I had I picked that, did you Boyd?
Speaker 4 (19:22):
Yeah, Taylor County beat Sayer, I picked that, Trinity beat
Mead County. I picked that, and Wolf County beat Harrison County.
Speaker 5 (19:31):
The only when I got wrong. So what do you
mean we didn't do well? We went three and one.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
I thought we missed the Boyle County over Boyd County.
Speaker 5 (19:35):
You did, but I did. I said, you don't go
against the mountains and I picked say, yeah, well, so
you missed all of them.
Speaker 4 (19:43):
I missed all of them. You ain't do you want
to know the softball scores?
Speaker 5 (19:47):
Sure?
Speaker 4 (19:47):
Yeah, I did.
Speaker 6 (19:48):
Bullet Eese play, Bullet East did play.
Speaker 4 (19:50):
They got their ass whooped three to two by Scott County.
Speaker 6 (19:53):
I wouldn't say three to two. Three to two.
Speaker 5 (19:55):
I think you got to be three to two is
not that bad. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
Uh, Boyle County had a rough day. They lost also
in softball to Rolland County three to two. Okay, Henderson
County beat North Laurel four to one, and Davis County
beat South one defending champs three to one.
Speaker 5 (20:09):
So its defending champs out.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
He divending champs out. So Davis County plays Innerson County.
Now all right over.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
There, congratulations to all those. The tournament goes on all weekend?
Is that UK all weekend?
Speaker 11 (20:19):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (20:19):
Yep, yeah, John Crop Stadium with a sophoball night.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
I thought I had like an hour. I was like,
maybe I'll go by and watch the high school baseball.
And I went out to the Legend Stadium and it
wasn't there. What used to be there, I know. So
I went out there and there was no one there,
and so I didn't get to go Who's up next?
Speaker 5 (20:37):
Jordan is up next? Jordan, go ahead? Jordan.
Speaker 9 (20:41):
Hey, you guys may have covered this already, but I
got a question and observation on the nil for the
twenty two million dollars. In my mind, it seems pretty
easy that you know, you pay, say you want to
pay the football and basketball teams with you know, split
that money down the middle for each of those teams.
Then can't they just take the nil money that those
teams are already getting.
Speaker 5 (21:02):
Yeah, well that's the thing is they're not gonna get it.
Well they're not. They're not gonna get as much. So
starting next year.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
The nil money, Bob, answer the phone during the show, Bob,
but you do not answer the phone during the show. Okay,
back to what I was saying. See, I knew he
couldn't get through it.
Speaker 5 (21:26):
I knew.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
I knew he couldn't do it. I like how he
acts frustrated. Like that person called me. You didn't have
to answer, right. Uh what was I saying?
Speaker 5 (21:36):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (21:37):
The money has to be real now like you have
to The nil money, sir, has to be for actual endorsements.
So unless we can find businesses that want to do
nine million dollars worth of football endorsements, that's a problem.
You can't just have Shannon Grigsby write a check for
a million dollars for a player. The person has to
(21:57):
do quote unquote a million dollars worth of benefit for Shannon,
and how they decide what that is is gonna be
will still have to determine.
Speaker 9 (22:07):
Gotcha. I just just given given recent events, Uh, I
still think that Kenny leaving Cow is worse than leaving
Trump and eyeing up.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
Yeah, well they're gonna make they'll make up today and
then they'll.
Speaker 5 (22:23):
Break up again. Uh.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Uh, Kenny, Kenny leaving Cow was the start of that decline.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
I think when you agree Kenny and Dwayne pebe both.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
And all three of them within a year, and uh,
you lose all three of them within a year. I
don't think Caliver cal ever recovered from that.
Speaker 4 (22:41):
Now, I ask you this didn't Did Elon apologize last
night or something?
Speaker 5 (22:44):
Or I don't think so. I think he just said
he was gonna.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Cool off for a little bit, cool offer a little
probably code for he's gonna stop taking drugs for a
few minutes and just just.
Speaker 5 (22:52):
Just calm down a little bit, and then hopefully that
would be better.
Speaker 7 (22:55):
I can't wait to see how this plays out, though,
I think I think you're right.
Speaker 6 (22:59):
I think eventually the kind of come around.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
And then they'll they'll go, they're gonna they're gonna be
It's like the real housewise, I canna site back together
and then you get it.
Speaker 5 (23:06):
Fight up, and then you get back together and you
break up.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven,
I like your reds jersey, you going to nine, I'm
going they're gonna lose again. Seven seven two seven seven
four five two five four. We'll take a break, be
right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Speaker 5 (23:22):
Wa. I'm back.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at the Virginia Theater
in Somerset, Great Pulaski County crowd. While we're here, I
think it would be we would be remiss if we
didn't mention, obviously, the tornado that came through this area
just a few weeks ago.
Speaker 5 (23:39):
Prayers to everyone involved.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
I mean, obviously the lot of the deaths were in London,
but there was damage in this county uh as well.
It's pretty severe damage in parts of it, So prayers
to all of those folks. I've heard from people in
the Laurel County area that the the efforts from both
private citizens and the government has gone very well so far.
(24:02):
I hope that continues because that is going to be
very needed for all.
Speaker 5 (24:05):
Of those people.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
But I think it would be wrong to be here
and not mention what this area and community has gone through.
Speaker 5 (24:13):
So prayers for all those folks.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
Right yeah. The benefit concert they had just here on
this stage last Satday, he'd raised ten thousand dollars for
the trend of relief victims here in Somerset. In London
and all the UK baseball team and the way from
the SEC tournament they start stopped Intslaski County to help
with something to clean up.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
I was, you know, I was here in London twice
the day after and then when we did the show.
Speaker 5 (24:32):
And I I.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
It never ceases to have as sad as it was,
and it was the scene in London, especially the day after,
might be the saddest scene I've ever seen that.
Speaker 5 (24:45):
And when we were in the floods in eastern Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
It is still amazingly heartwarming to see the way people
just come together and just immediately go and help each other.
And that is it's one of the best things about
Kentucky and this Area showcased that over the last last
few weeks. If I'm nine two eight twenty two eighty seven,
(25:09):
you said South Warren won the softball that is not
true true, Henderson County is the defending softball champion. Why
do you say things with such confidence that are blatantly false.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
Well, my my friends a Davis County person, and Davis
County beat South Warren, and I think he probably told
me now we played the defending champs Henderson County. I
heard we just beat the defending champs South Warren. So yeah,
I messed that up. Little.
Speaker 6 (25:32):
You feel like everybody else, you hear what you want
to hear.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
Yeah, you hear what you want to hear. One person
writes Matt, this is really a question for Ryan Oh.
After the facts of the last segment, I can understand
why in UK sports, can you what's the closest similarity
to Musk and Trump you've seen in UK sports where
two people that work together have a breakup and end
up hating each other. Actually I have an answer, but
(25:57):
do you have one? I mean, I think they're one
kind of obvious answer, But do you have one.
Speaker 4 (26:02):
Other than what we just saw with Callen Stoops a
couple of years ago, I was gonna say, Kallen Robick,
Kallen Robick, I mean, I think Callen.
Speaker 5 (26:10):
Rob I think, I mean hate is a strong word.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
I mean, that's probably, but I do think Kallen Robic
that relationship ended with animosity, a relationship that was very close.
Speaker 5 (26:22):
For a long long time.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
That's Can you think of any others from the year's
past before that where it ended sort of not in
a good way.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
Off the top of my head, but that was so
sad about the Erbic Cal thing. They were so close
for so long, shared that same office for years and
years and years, and when it broke up, it got
nasty guy.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
Yeah, I mean kl Robic breaking up would have been
the equivalent Shennon of like if in five years Drew
and I didn't speak to each other like they they
worked together close from multiple stops going moving across the
country together and then it broke up. I mean, that's
(27:01):
cow Robic is pretty bad, unfortunately for both of them,
because I like both well, Cal and I didn't have
the greatest ending, but I liked him for a long
time and I still like Aerobic that that was a shame.
Speaker 7 (27:12):
And when you work so closely with somebody like that
for so many hours and every single day, and you're
on the road, you're doing recruiting visits. You've got to
like that person exactly, and then to break up and
not talk at all is gonna be till Kyl.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
Stoops was a little different because I don't know if
Kowen Stoops ever liked each other.
Speaker 5 (27:30):
They just kind of like hit it for a long time.
Speaker 6 (27:34):
They tolerated, They tolerated.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
Each other, and then it kinda I mean, I know
Cal well, I know what both of their positions were.
Cow's position was, this is a basketball school. How dare
you all give football any money? That was kind of
how they felt it.
Speaker 5 (27:53):
Stoops's position was, we made more money than you do
for the school. Why don't you back off of little bit?
Speaker 3 (28:00):
The reason you can get paid ten million dollars is
because of the amount of people that come to these games.
And they both had a point, to be honest with you,
but I think it led to them button hits.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
I think it was behind the scenes for many years,
but then when Cal made that comment we're a football school,
I think that's what it came out in the public,
and that kind of oh.
Speaker 5 (28:17):
But it existed. Oh yeah, it existed before that.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
I think Cal had a good relationship with Joker, But
it was easier to do that, Shennon, because they knew,
like Joker was not having success. So it's easily be
magnanimous when everybody knows.
Speaker 5 (28:30):
You're having more success.
Speaker 3 (28:32):
Harder when it's like when you're losing in the first
round the tournament and he's going to the centers Bowl,
then it becomes a little bit more difficult.
Speaker 7 (28:39):
Yeah, you know Stoops has had great success, a couple
of ten win seasons here, and you know he would
have to say something Once Cal said that publicly, he
couldn't just sit by.
Speaker 6 (28:47):
Can take it.
Speaker 5 (28:48):
I remember when I read that, and I was like.
Speaker 6 (28:50):
Oh, yeah, you knew that was gonna be at the
start of something.
Speaker 5 (28:52):
Who's up next? Uncle Vito? Is up next? Uncle Vito?
How are you?
Speaker 3 (28:56):
By the way, did they catch the zebra yet? Have
they caught the zebra? You know, there's a world that
zebra folks could end up up here. Don't forget like
you are. He's on his way, y'all are in the vicinity.
I mean it's he would have to jump some things
to get here, but you could you could get it.
Speaker 5 (29:10):
Go ahead, z or Zeno.
Speaker 11 (29:16):
Hey, Matt, can you hear me?
Speaker 5 (29:18):
Yeah, Matt, can you hear me?
Speaker 11 (29:21):
I got a whisper just a little bit because my
son's a sleep in the back seat. Okay, I need
some advice from you all, especially from Ryan.
Speaker 5 (29:30):
Questions. All right, go ahead.
Speaker 11 (29:32):
I'm a first time dad. What is your best advice
for a first time dad?
Speaker 5 (29:38):
And you're the only one that can answer this.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
To be fair, you can't be their friend. Is you
gotta be dad?
Speaker 5 (29:43):
And that's not true.
Speaker 4 (29:44):
You do that once they get older, once they get
to a point, you can be their friend, but you
can't be their friend while they're growing up. If you're
their friend, you're not doing your job.
Speaker 5 (29:51):
So you just yelled at your kids growing up.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
I was kind of rough on them for many years
until they got to the age where we can be friends.
My dad, I think, taught me the same way. You know,
you got tough love, but you get to that point
where then you can kind of share the love.
Speaker 5 (30:03):
I've never seen you be tough. When did When were
you tough?
Speaker 4 (30:07):
Well, you weren't around, you know, in the house, when
they didn't clean up their clothes off the floor, for
the fifth straight day or something like that.
Speaker 5 (30:12):
And what did you do?
Speaker 4 (30:13):
I yelled at him.
Speaker 6 (30:16):
Did it work?
Speaker 4 (30:17):
Well, obviously not.
Speaker 11 (30:21):
Fall asleep. You fall the sleep every time when I
turn on k SR. So it's great.
Speaker 5 (30:26):
Well, it's good. I have a very soothing voice for children.
Speaker 6 (30:28):
People have always.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
I had a person write me and say that they
were on vacation with their wife in Jamaica, and their
wife right before they go to bed, he was listening
to podcast and the and the wife said, if you
don't give me one week away from that man's voice,
I'm gonna be very angry at you.
Speaker 5 (30:50):
I can understand that.
Speaker 7 (30:51):
You think maybe parents are putting it on, like your
voice on the baby monitor so that the kid can
hear it.
Speaker 6 (30:55):
You're the boy traits.
Speaker 5 (30:57):
I don't know that I have the most soothing voice
in the world.
Speaker 7 (31:00):
But yes, I think the zebra is still on the loose.
There's this from three hours ago. It just says Rutherford County.
I don't I guess that's Nashville TV stage. Okay, yeah,
that's from the helicopter.
Speaker 5 (31:11):
The TV stations can find the zebra. Why can't the
Why can't the animal authorities?
Speaker 4 (31:16):
I guess they could find it. They just can't corral
it and bring it back to where it belongs.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
Okay, well I don't think it belongs to that guy's
house that had it.
Speaker 5 (31:23):
Who's next? Matt is up next, Matt, Go ahead, Matt.
Speaker 12 (31:29):
Hey, guys, what's up. I'm sitting out here in my
garden watching rihann and Hayes pick the last of the
p's while I meditate, and they he shine.
Speaker 5 (31:41):
Your guy, that's meditating. That's right. We've had a lot
of praise about your call and like people saying it's uh,
you know, made them want to find more peace with themselves.
Speaker 12 (31:54):
Well, you know, I've got an answer to this whole
Elon and Trump.
Speaker 5 (32:00):
Oh you do? Okay, I need what would you? What
would you? What would you suggest they do?
Speaker 12 (32:06):
They need to get a big, beautiful garden and kick
their shoes off. Yeah, just making a guarden and sit
out there and meditate and be thankful for everything God's
blessed them with. They're so blessed. You know.
Speaker 5 (32:24):
I have to tell you.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
I cannot see Donald Trump meditating. I'm not saying he wouldn't.
I just can't really see it. But I feel like
it's good advice.
Speaker 12 (32:36):
I feel like he should, like somebody needs to encourage them.
Speaker 3 (32:40):
You know, I'll bring it up the next time I
talk to him.
Speaker 12 (32:45):
I do have a question, Okay, do you see college
basketball or college sports in general turning into like the
NBA does how they put advertisements on their jerseys.
Speaker 5 (32:59):
Yes, that's gonna happen. I'm surprised it hasn't happened already.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
Yeah, there's a couple things that I think are going
to Again, I appreciate the call I talked about this
with Ross. There's two things that I think are going
to happen at a lot of schools that they're waiting,
shenning for one school to break the seal and then
get all the criticism, and then everybody else will do it.
One of them is putting the name, putting ads on
(33:24):
the jersey. Whoever is the first one to do that.
People are not gonna like it. But then once one of.
Speaker 6 (33:30):
Them does it and it becomes the norm, then they're all.
Speaker 5 (33:32):
Gonna do it. Now. I don't think they'll be gaudy.
Speaker 3 (33:35):
I think it'll be like in the NBA, Like if
you watch the NBA Finals, like right here on the shoulder,
they'll be a little patch. I think that's what you're
gonna end up seeing. The second thing is one of
these schools is gonna take They're gonna turn their athletic
department into an investment. They're gonna make it like stock,
and they're gonna say, Kentucky Sport University, Kentucky Sports stock
(33:58):
is worth X amount of money, and they will take
money from an investment fund to buy twenty percent of
UK Sports or fifteen I'm you remember I've been saying
this for six months. Louisville is gonna do this, and
Louisville's gonna do it. I wouldn't be surprised if Louisville's
not the first one.
Speaker 5 (34:17):
That does it.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
Louisville is gonna take a big chunk of money from
some private investment firm and they are gonna sell a
piece of Louisville Sports. And to me, there's a lot
of issues with that. A public university selling a piece
of public university to a private fund is It's weird
to me, but.
Speaker 5 (34:35):
It's gonna happen. Ryan.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
It's probably gonna happen with an ACC or Big twelve
school first, because they don't make as much money as
the SEC and Big.
Speaker 5 (34:43):
Ten and Louisville. I'm Louisville is gonna do it.
Speaker 4 (34:47):
It's just a matter of when can you separate it
and make it just athletics only, or it has to be.
Speaker 5 (34:52):
May be athletics only.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
The academic parts not gonna sell, but they will sell,
and maybe they just sell. You know, Shannon U of
l basketball about football, but they are going to sell
a piece of it.
Speaker 5 (35:03):
It's going to happen.
Speaker 7 (35:04):
Yep, it's gonna you know, depend on that first goal
to stick their neck out there and be the first
to do that.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
One school has to break the seal, and then once
they do, they'll take all the criticism and then everybody
else will do it.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
That's gonna happen. Tell me about doctor mortgage, Doctor mortgage.
You know, it's always a good time to buy, and
now it's a great time to buy. Rates are still
kind of a little high. But you know what, it's
a good investment in.
Speaker 5 (35:23):
Your seas not a good time to buy.
Speaker 4 (35:25):
It's not really, it's always a good time to buy.
It's why it.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
Feels like if it's always a good time to buy,
then it's never a good time to buy.
Speaker 4 (35:31):
Well, one of the best investments you can make is
in real estate. So why not invest in your future
and go buy a house and have Stocktor Mortgage do
your financing. There you can hand lead you to the
finish line and get the closing table. That's what's all about.
So give them a call. They're all over the state.
They're growing in them last A two five nine Equalhalsing Lender.
Speaker 5 (35:47):
I mean if everybody gets a standing ovation, J Yeah,
then nobody gets a standing.
Speaker 6 (35:51):
It doesn't mean anything.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
It doesn't mean anything. So when you say it's always
a good time to buy.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
I think any time you get a standing ovation is
a great day. Any want to buy your house, It's
a great day.
Speaker 5 (36:01):
We'll take a break. Be right back. Final segment. This
is KSO Waterback.
Speaker 3 (36:07):
It is the final segment here Kentucky Sports Radio in

Speaker 5 (36:43):

Speaker 3 (36:44):
You too, are staying in Somerset all day until the
concert tonight.
Speaker 5 (36:48):
What do we go?
Speaker 3 (36:49):
What are you gonna be doing? What are the two
bros gonna get into in the city here?
Speaker 7 (36:52):
Well, I have one suggestion yesterday on the pre show
for a place called the Salty Hen. I don't know
what that is, but it sounds interesting.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
Oh, they're shaking their head. No, the Steelhouse. I think it'shere.
We're going for lunch. Yeah, the Steel House.
Speaker 7 (37:04):
This was a sweet old lady that called in. You're
shaking your head no letter.
Speaker 5 (37:08):
Yeah, first of all, I liked the name Salty.
Speaker 6 (37:10):
It's a good day.
Speaker 5 (37:11):
But you guys have got that's a long time to kill.
You have no house.
Speaker 6 (37:16):
I've got a green room back here.
Speaker 7 (37:17):
I don't know about everybody else, but I got a
green room that's got a couch.
Speaker 5 (37:20):
You're staying here the whole time too.
Speaker 4 (37:21):
There's a couch in the green room and Channa not
gonna share it and take a nap together.
Speaker 6 (37:27):
You're not allowed.
Speaker 5 (37:28):
Well, I mean, I hope you enjoy it. Your concerts
at eight o'clock.
Speaker 6 (37:31):
Ten o'clock.
Speaker 7 (37:31):
Yep, we'll be playing a couple of sets playing until
about ten o'clock.
Speaker 6 (37:35):
So yeah, there's still tickets available.
Speaker 3 (37:36):
Do you think Indiana we got pacers there? Do you
think they win another game in the series, Like, can
they win the series?
Speaker 4 (37:43):
Steal in that game won last night at ok See?
I didn't know if they could win it, but after
they won that game last night, I know they can
win the series.
Speaker 5 (37:49):
Now you know it?
Speaker 3 (37:50):
Yes, I mean you do have Like against the Knicks,
they stole a game that won the series. Then there
was a few years ago, I think what was it
Sixers Lakers where they stole game one and iverson. Then
they didn't win another game the rest of the series.
Which one do you think it's more likely more likely the.
Speaker 6 (38:06):
Thunder still win. I think Thunder winning six.
Speaker 7 (38:08):
But there's a lot of pressure on the Thunder now
because if you lose the second game, now you got
two in Indiana and anything could happen when you go
on the road.
Speaker 5 (38:15):
So that's right, did you enjoy it?
Speaker 3 (38:17):
I mean people were saying it was gonna be boring
with these boring teams.
Speaker 5 (38:20):
I thought it was actually pretty exciting.
Speaker 4 (38:22):
I told Shannon it was like nine point leave without
four minutes ago, and I am struggling to stay awake,
very very sleepy. I made myself stay up and so
glad I did for that comeback. See Halliburton hit the
shot at the end of the game. It was awesome.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
Yeah, so you got the Belmont you also have all
the college baseball games. Can Murray State get it done
at Duke this weekend and try to become the first
time Murray State's first time they've ever been to a
super regional trying to make the first time you've ever
made the College World Series.
Speaker 5 (38:49):
You think they can do it.
Speaker 6 (38:49):
I have no reason to doubt them.
Speaker 7 (38:51):
I mean, Murray State coming out of the bracket they
were in and now take it on Duke.
Speaker 6 (38:56):
I think they could do it. What is it two
out of three?
Speaker 3 (38:59):
Murray State game starts Saturday, so Saturday is their first game,
and then they play Saturday Sunday if they and then
potentially Monday.
Speaker 6 (39:05):
I believe in them.
Speaker 5 (39:05):
Think you have a chance.
Speaker 4 (39:06):
Yeah, I think it's Saturday at noon. It's an early start,
so we should all get behind Murray State and to win.
Like Channon said at Ole Miss on their stadium, knock
off the Rebels, why not? Why can't they go to
Duke and win this?
Speaker 5 (39:16):
Here, I'm pulling for Murray State.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
I think that would be the one of the cooler
things to see the local school do it. Four seeds
rarely get this far, much less the College World Series.
Murray State, you know, we got him on the show.
I hope they go get a victory uh in Durham
this weekend. Plus who who doesn't want a root against Duke?
Speaker 5 (39:35):
Who's next? Cynthia's next, Cynthia, Go ahead, Cynthia.
Speaker 13 (39:40):
Hey, Matt, I heard you say that you were going
to the Red Game tonight. And I'm flying up to
Cincinnati for the weekend to visit some friends, and we're
going to the Red Game tomorrow, which is a bibblehead giveaway.
Speaker 5 (39:53):
Oh who's a bibblehead?
Speaker 13 (39:56):
I think it might be Hunter Green.
Speaker 5 (39:59):
Or she'd like to have that.
Speaker 13 (40:03):
Yeah, I can't know tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (40:04):
Because I'm going to I'm going Tony, but I'm going
to see me ce m a fast tomorrow so you'll
have to get the bibblehead.
Speaker 5 (40:10):
For me if you will.
Speaker 13 (40:12):
Well, I'm going to ask you if you were sending
someone to g No.
Speaker 5 (40:16):
But I need to. I was gonna sell it, but
I didn't know it was Hunter Green bibblehead. Now I
don't know. You think I can get Billy to go.
Speaker 3 (40:23):
On vacation man, Okay, well you'll have to join without me.
Speaker 13 (40:29):
Well my second question then would be what is your
