Welcome to two of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now Here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
Okay, I do recognize for those of you saying that
I've like went full doof and schmertz there in the
second half of the first half. You're right, my voice
kind of did the why you know, I get it,
but I'm a little outraged by a couple of things.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
I'm justified, all right, bunch.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
We got Billy here, he's outraged at something, Shannon said.
We got callers. I'm still gonna do the end of
my analogy I used, but before all that, I have
some breaking.

Speaker 5 (01:31):
News running or No. This is why I love live radio.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
This is why I think it's the best medium, because
you never know what's gonna happen.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
All right.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
We had a caller in the last segment, say went
by Dunkin Donuts and threw the ls down in Frankfort
to Vince Merril. Yes, and we didn't know whether we
believed him or not. Did you believe him, Shannon?

Speaker 6 (01:54):
No, No, did you believe him?

Speaker 5 (01:56):
Right? I did kind of believe him. I kind of
believed him.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
During the break, for the first time since yesterday, my
phone rang and it was Vince Merrill, and Vince Merrill
called to tell me that the guy flipped him off
at the dunking dough nuts, not El's down. And he
didn't throw L's down.

Speaker 6 (02:19):
He threw something up instead.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
He flipped him off, And I said to him, I'm
about to go back on the air.

Speaker 5 (02:26):
I'm not asking about any of the rest of this
right now.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
You did you said that, but I did think that,
And I said, do you care if I share that?

Speaker 5 (02:33):
And he said yes.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
So now on, is Vince listening, Shannon. He wants to
crack not ails down, mentle finger up.

Speaker 6 (02:41):
Yeah, Wow, there's a big difference in that. You do
L's down. That's fine.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
I want you to think about this. This is my Vince,
because I know you're listening. This is why you screwed up.

Speaker 7 (02:52):
Right.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
You had a relationship with this fan base where literally
you would call into the show like call it and
during a break and say, yeah, that guy's story.

Speaker 8 (03:01):
He actually flipped me off. It's not gonna be like
that at Louisville. There's nothing they have there that's like this.
There's nothing and you know, I don't know what.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
To tell you, but wow, So there you go. That's
why live radio is right there.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
My guess is that's not gonna be the only time
that Vince runs into a situation like that.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
All right, So that's number one.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
Number two, shaneon you said that Billy said he was
gonna cheer for Louisville when Kentucky didn't play.

Speaker 5 (03:32):
Billy, you would like to time me.

Speaker 9 (03:34):
Yeah, I didn't catch the whole first hour. I did
catch Shannon warping my words again, though.

Speaker 6 (03:38):
What did you say, then, sir?

Speaker 9 (03:40):
I wish Vince Marrow the best of luck. I did
not say I was going to be rooting for the Cardinals.

Speaker 4 (03:44):
From the best of luck you can best, I mean fair, Shannon,
the best of luck you could have would be to win, right, exactly.

Speaker 6 (03:51):
That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 9 (03:52):
Acteel like I'm putting a Cardinal hat on and rooting
for the.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
Car I thought you were going give me a broad dude,
all is up? As you said that. I mean, listen,
this guy gave twelve years, loses twelve years.

Speaker 5 (04:06):
It consider you hope he wins or loses.

Speaker 6 (04:08):
I hope he has success.

Speaker 5 (04:09):
Yes, but I'm not right right right?

Speaker 9 (04:14):
I wish him the best professionally and personally, I do
wish him the best.

Speaker 8 (04:19):
Shannon was right, you came in here to correct right.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Rooting for the cards.

Speaker 9 (04:28):
I do hope he finds success in his professional career.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
Will plays teams that are not Kentucky are and Vince
Marrow is on the sideline.

Speaker 5 (04:38):
Are you rooting for him to win? I wish him
the best of What does that mean?

Speaker 9 (04:42):
No matter what popular along his career, he finds success.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
Yes, so at Louisville. To find success, he's going to
have to win. Do you want him to win?

Speaker 1 (04:51):
No, I don't want him to pay.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
I want him success. If he's not winning, it may
may be personally.

Speaker 8 (04:57):
Who knows the relationships personally professionally.

Speaker 9 (05:01):
Yes, I hope he finds success. No, I do not
root for the Cardinals to win.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
Specific I don't understand what success can he have if
they don't win, like you mean just success in like.

Speaker 9 (05:10):
Well, he could be a good recruiter. He could bring
in some guys that make it and they all lose.
But no, listen, Wow, I got a number to a
tattoo shop. Just go get that big al tattoo in your.

Speaker 5 (05:21):
Back and you leave here.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
Dude, you should want you know what?

Speaker 5 (05:26):
This is the equivalent of Vince's interview in December. For
you, you made it worse.

Speaker 6 (05:32):
You've been better off, not coming, You've.

Speaker 5 (05:33):
Been better off not coming.

Speaker 4 (05:34):
In turn, his mic off, I'm twenty eighty seven. Wow.

Speaker 5 (05:42):
Wow, that was the heck of a start to a segment.
What I said was, I it looks like Shannon I
was about to give you a hard time. It looks
like you were right. It looks like you were correct.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
Personally, I love Vince, but professionally I can't root for him.

Speaker 5 (05:53):
Now.

Speaker 6 (05:54):
That's it, that's it.

Speaker 5 (05:55):
I'm with you, unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Vince has to understand that our fan base, he asked him, understand, well,
we feel this thinks.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
Everyone is Billy, but be clear, only Billy is Billy
Billy and and uh, Jerry, Jerry, who I'm very disappointed
in you. Jerry, You've called here, You've called this show
almost as much as anyone. I'm disappointed in you. All Right,
I'm gonna do my analogy on leadership, cause I do
think that Game of Thrones thing is important.

Speaker 5 (06:20):
But let's go through a few of these. Doing good
thirty seconds.

Speaker 7 (06:23):
Go easier, I think, God, But that's all right, because that's.

Speaker 5 (06:30):
Just, you know, twenty seconds doing good talking. No, have
a good conversation with somebody that I'm doing good.

Speaker 10 (06:38):
How are you fifteen that work was going on. Fifteen
seconds is all I need, is this big fan of events.
But not if you go to an inferior institution. El's down,
little dog, El's down.

Speaker 5 (06:51):
There we go.

Speaker 6 (06:51):
That's good recovery.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
Good recovery, y good recovery. Larry from Paduca thirty seconds.

Speaker 11 (06:59):
He stoops over explained how he lost that team last year.

Speaker 4 (07:03):
He said that they had some culture issues. But he's
not got into any detail correct.

Speaker 5 (07:10):
So the answer is no. The answer is no.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Ranks make good use of these thirty seconds.

Speaker 4 (07:19):
Yeah, I'm telling you these guys kind of using their
thirty seconds correctly.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
I'm nine twenty two eighty seven. Bill, come for it,
all events.

Speaker 12 (07:28):
I'm glad you're listing because when you throw the hills up,
I hope to God your hand cramps. I hope they
don't have those little bags of FreeDOS in Louisville, all right.
I hope that you know when you go do the
karaoke of simple Man in ACC, all six of their
fans at the ACC tournament, all six of their fans
are gonna love it. Okay, But at the end of
the day, you are not a big dog anymore. You
are no more than a toy poodle. And I hope

(07:50):
you stub your toe and you have your press conference.
But I do love you buddy until.

Speaker 8 (07:54):
Then, you know what the whole like, that's the good like,
that's that's that's what the fan base fields.

Speaker 5 (08:00):
Right, Still love you, buddy. I can't articulate that back.

Speaker 4 (08:05):
Yeah, there's not gonna be Shannon a moment where he
sings that Louisville doesn't have an Alice blue gown.

Speaker 5 (08:12):
Yeah, I mean right.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
The good thing is, as our bass player pointed out,
we don't have to sing simple man anymore.

Speaker 5 (08:18):
Share off. You're gonna have to do science projects with.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
He's the nerdiest person we had, Shann And the dude,
what are you and the sheriff gonna do? Going like,
I mean, come on, this is what you signed up for, right.

Speaker 6 (08:35):
It's a little dog now there you dog.

Speaker 5 (08:38):
Maybe he'll show up in a Jack Harlowe video. I
guess that's the best.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
That's the best he can hope for is he could
dance with Jack Harlow next to my car in the Backeray,
in my backyard.

Speaker 5 (08:52):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
Go hang out with Terry Miners and then careful.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
I like Terry and Tony and Nick and and you know,
but JB JB go thirty seconds.

Speaker 11 (09:04):
Hey man, a long time first time Who are I
think this probably about his low life patrol move as
the coach could do. As far as motivation, do you
think maybe he sees some riding on the wall at
the drop season for stoops And it's easier to find
a job when you got a job, and man, send

(09:24):
big bird Billy to Louisville with him.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
You know, all of those things are true. There's no doubt.
There's got to be part of this. It's riding on
the wall. You're probably right. It is probably easier to
find find a job when you've got a job.

Speaker 5 (09:36):
But he'd have gotten a job no matter what I mean.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
I think as soon if Mark would have been let
go at the end of the year, Vince would have
had a host of opportunities, not just Louisville. He would
have had a host of opportunities. He clearly wanted to
do it right now. And that's the part I don't understand.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
And the fact that you know, he just got married,
he bought a new house here, his wife's kids are
around here. You know, there's a guy he got the
roots were digging in deep here, picking him up and
moving not just anywhere down the road to the rival.
That's what's hard to accept.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
He's probably gonna make that drive on I sixty four.
You know, when he stopped at the frank for Dunkin Donuts,
that might have been the drive.

Speaker 5 (10:12):
To go to Louisville.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
I'm sure it was.

Speaker 5 (10:14):
I didn't even think.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
About that, meeting with meeting with people right now.

Speaker 6 (10:16):
Probably you think so, Shannon, Probably so, Yeah, I mean
why else.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Would he be there? I mean there are Dunkin Donuts
and Lexington could have stopped. You just needed a donut
and coffee.

Speaker 5 (10:25):
Is there a duncan next to the interstate that you
would pull right off?

Speaker 7 (10:28):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (10:28):
Sure? Which one?

Speaker 1 (10:29):
The one in Frankfurt?

Speaker 4 (10:30):
Yeah, it's right off the interesting Yeah, seeing you just
pulled off yep, on the way to Louisville.

Speaker 5 (10:35):
Yep, got a donut, got flipped off.

Speaker 13 (10:38):
Uh HUHTSR back on to hear what we're saying about him,
to go along with it, you know, he tells that
famous story the fan stopped him in a supermarket in
electing in when he was thinking about the Michigan job.

Speaker 5 (10:53):
Yes, that was a big deal to him big deal the.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
Fan kind of, he says, changed his mind about that
job a little bit.

Speaker 5 (10:58):
Yeah. Now then on the middle finger up in the
air at.

Speaker 4 (11:02):
Him, what's he think about that unbelievable Jesse thirty seconds.

Speaker 14 (11:07):
Hey, Matt, thanks for taking my call. I'm glad to
hear the Vince is listening because I think there's kind
of two ways to look at the story here, and
I just want to say thanks to Vince for everything
he did for the program. The way that the program
turned around was at led me to buying season tickets
a few years ago, but I've also let those tickets
go after this year kind of for the same reason.

(11:28):
I'm disappointed in what's happening where he was at. I'm
disappointed where he's going, but I can't do anything about
him going to Louisville, So I.

Speaker 5 (11:35):
Just understand that.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
Yeah, you definitely do have to say, like he was
awesome here and like he no doubt maybe the best
recruiter of Kentucky football's ever had. Yep, he still went
to louis you know, like you said earlier, I loved
John Cena. But when he turns on Cody Road still

(11:59):
turns on Cody. That's right right, like you still.

Speaker 6 (12:02):
Still a a He'll turn if you can't just ignore.

Speaker 5 (12:05):
It, you can't just act like it didn't happen. Yeah,
you know, you.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
Know our I think it was our first caller brought
up the name John Sumraw. It's something I think we're
gonna hear a lot between.

Speaker 4 (12:15):
Yeah, I get all that, but like Mark steps is
the coach this year, So I am, you're gonna hear
me say. We gotta hope it works. Absolutely, it doesn't
want to any good. I hope it doesn't work. Correct,
What does that do? That's just cutting off your nose,
spite your face.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
We want it to work.

Speaker 4 (12:28):
We want it to work, you know. So John Summraw,
Like is that a discussion to have if things don't work. Yeah,
that's a discussion. But right now, like if he ain't
gonna be the coach tomorrow, we got we got to
try to win with what we got, right. It's very true, Adam,
go ahead at him thirty seconds, Hey.

Speaker 15 (12:44):
Man, first time, long time?

Speaker 5 (12:46):
Who are hey?

Speaker 15 (12:48):
I just wanted to say, as a fan, I'm very
appreciable of everything Vince did for the program. Personally, my
son has aspirations of playing college football Vince and Kemp
s Vince is taking the time to go talk to
him several times. But that said, he went to Louisville.
I hope we get the chance to run it down
his throat, run a red sideline. I don't care if
we get a penalty, throw the el down in his.

Speaker 4 (13:10):
Get to drop that on his own, Okay, I will
say if we win again, I don't, I don't speak.

Speaker 5 (13:17):
We will if we go down there and win at Louisville,
I'll be on the field look looking for him. Ol
I will.

Speaker 4 (13:27):
I'll take the penalty, might need to take some bodyguards,
but I'll be throwing the els down.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
If they're able to win at Louisville this.

Speaker 4 (13:36):
Year, imagine all right, sony, because this is gonna be
gloom and doom for a while, can you imagine what
the celebration would be like, big for everyone involved if
they beat Louisville with Vince standing.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
On the side. Because they're probably gonna have a good season.
We're probably not.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
Now, what's the more likely scenario is then Louisville beats
us and we have to watch Vince throwing l's up.

Speaker 5 (13:59):
I can tell you this to.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
Whatever extent those first couple of calls were provens. When
that comes out, like, what's what were we gonna do in
the press conference here in two days? When he does this,
that's happening.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
It's definitely gonna happen. They introduced him and he's throwing
l's up.

Speaker 5 (14:17):
I mean, he has to.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
He's got to show he's all in. He's got to
show the Louisville fan base he's all in on this.

Speaker 5 (14:24):
He has to. I mean, that's what he has to do. Unbelievable.
Jesse thirty seconds.

Speaker 16 (14:30):
Matt, this is Jesse from Duncan Donuts. I just want
to say I drove past him and gave the dirty
bird up in the air, and then he pulled up
next to me and then I gave him the LS down.

Speaker 4 (14:43):
He gave him the dirty bird first. Interesting, you skipped
that part he told the story.

Speaker 12 (14:48):
Well, yeah, I know, I know, I know.

Speaker 14 (14:50):
I did.

Speaker 11 (14:51):
I feel a little bad, but not too bad.

Speaker 17 (14:53):
Really see y'all go.

Speaker 5 (14:56):
Cat appreciate the call.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
Well, then we know the full story. Oh then it did, Shannon,
There's no question it happened.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
Yep, got the dirty bird, got the ail station from
both sides.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
That it confirmation from both sides both sides are reporting.
Cee Mario, that's something you can believe. Not Alex Caruso

Her nice good song. If I'm nine two eight oh
twenty two eighty seven. Text machine, text machine is great today.

(15:57):
Not gonna lie to you seven seven two seven four
five two for One person writes breaking news. Matt Joe's
just announced he's running for governor. Source Mario's Facebook.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Past the way Mario said it so convinced. I think
I just missed. I just missed the story.

Speaker 4 (16:13):
He was so convinced. One person rites Vince Merrow was
a great coach here. He's now no longer the coach here.
I look at it as if Andy Bisheer became governor
of Russia.

Speaker 5 (16:26):
I don't have to wish him well as governor of Russia.

Speaker 6 (16:29):
Fair, I mean wrong, that's extreme comparison.

Speaker 4 (16:33):
But yeah, it is a little bit.

Speaker 5 (16:38):
It is a little bit of an extreme comparson, right. Uh.

Speaker 4 (16:43):
One person writes, Matt, do you think Vince gets the
bird all the time now thanks to Jesse? No, but
probably gets it at least one more time at some point.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
I won't be surprised if he gets it quite a bit,
you know, the l just drop a couple of fingers.
It could be a good hand little movement for us.
Heels down dirty.

Speaker 4 (17:04):
It's amazing that he does, all right. For let me
tell you, uh, just one last thing. When I was
talking about the leadership thing, about the different the two
different leadership styles sort of top down. So let me
I used presidents, let me also use coaches. Cali Perry
was a top down leader, yes, that at his best

(17:26):
would listen to his assistance and then make a decision,
and then they all had the marching orders. At his
worst he stopped listening to them. But at his best
that was what he did, right, but it was Col's way.
Tubby was more let me kind of hear everybody's opinions,

(17:48):
uh huh, and depending on who he was with, he
could be swayed right. True, Luckily he had a group
of people he trusted, but it was more of a
group think mentality.

Speaker 5 (18:01):
Would you agree with that very much?

Speaker 1 (18:03):
So?

Speaker 5 (18:03):
Yes, here's the negative about that.

Speaker 4 (18:06):
If a person who operates like that is not firm
in their convictions, then they can get floated around depending
on the day. If you read some of the books
about Biden and Trump, that's when they're at their worst.
Whoever they happen to be around that day, that's what
they do. So there are pros and cons to each one.

(18:29):
Mark Stoops has always been a let's kind of group
think mentality. Whereas cow was top down, he was group think.
When Stoops is at his best, he would hear all
these people, they would work together and they would come
to a solution and it seemed to have worked, and
it worked. What I think has happened in recent years
is as has Mark has kind of I don't want

(18:51):
to say detached, but has not been as strong in
his success, it has become a Game of Thrones thing
there who can be close to the king?

Speaker 5 (19:01):
Right?

Speaker 4 (19:03):
And I think Vince kind of got pushed to the
side by some of those people. Now, whose fault is
that I'm not there enough to know, to be honest
with you, is it where things better or worse? I mean,
the results on the field have been worse, But I
do think that that has been an issue. I think
that's led to some people departing. It's also led to

(19:25):
some dysfunction, and so two different leadership styles both can
be successful. At the end of the cal era, we
saw what the negative part of top down looks like, right,
And I wonder if now in the Stoops era, we're
seeing the negative part of the kind of group think era.
Does that make sense?

Speaker 1 (19:41):
I think it's a great analogy that you put out there.
So you know, this spring we heard that the culture
and everything was better in the UK football programs. So
do you think that maybe Stoops is trying to go
back to that what made him successful, get back to that.

Speaker 5 (19:56):
I think he. I think he just has a different
group of people he's following.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
Right now, Okay, it feels like he's not one of
Evince probably.

Speaker 4 (20:05):
Feels like he's left out. That's just my sense. I
don't know that for sure, but that's just my sense. Yeah, still,
you can't go to Louisville. No, John, thirty seconds go.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
He is now the enemy.

Speaker 11 (20:19):
I don't wear red shirts.

Speaker 7 (20:21):
I won't even wear red underwear.

Speaker 11 (20:23):
And just let me know where I can send my
resume for the general manager at KSR.

Speaker 4 (20:28):
Appreciate the call, you know, Yeah, red, I wear red
some because of the Reds, but I'm not a huge fan.
But I'm not gonna wear a Louisville shirt except in
like a skit.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
We just saw. Mark Pop would even let one of
these kids wear red socks. He's camp the other Day's
exactly right. You don't wear d So when Vince marches
out on the news conference introducing him as a coach,
he's got a Louisville shirt on Louisville hat on Boo
boo Andy big time. I like you.

Speaker 4 (20:53):
I don't even know how you could like. It's just
like I said though on the on the Twitter space
last night. We do need to remember though, for me,
for Ryan, for Shannon, for Drew, for Mario. I used
to think for Billy, but I'll now take him out
of that. For those five of us, we will always

(21:15):
care more than the people who are employees of the
university do.

Speaker 6 (21:21):
Yes, yeah, we will for them. It's just a job.

Speaker 5 (21:24):
It's a job.

Speaker 4 (21:26):
Now, there are some exceptions. It wasn't just a job
for Joe by hall Mark. I don't think it's just
a job for Mark Pove but for you know. But
there are other people for whom it is just a job.

Speaker 3 (21:41):
I feel like if you didn't grow up here, you know,
or play here, then it's different.

Speaker 5 (21:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (21:47):
Okay, so let's imagine I got CaSR ended and I
took a job at Illinois Sports radio. I'm gonna be
all in. Let's go a line, right, I'm gonna sit
there and think of all the Illinois greats, like.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
Okay, Dan Paulaavumbo, what his name was, Dan Paula Lumbo?

Speaker 5 (22:10):
Making that name up. I'm trying to who played basketball
in Illinois. Whoever?

Speaker 4 (22:16):
I'll create someone. But I'll tell you this, I'm all
love it. But you know, then if if Ohio State
offers me more money.

Speaker 5 (22:29):
I might now all of a sudden be an Ohio
State guy. In Illinois. It was fun. I loved it.

Speaker 4 (22:33):
Let's go Buckeyes. But when it's Kentucky. I can't do
that with Louisville and Tennessee like I could do it
with Colorado and Colorado State because I don't really have
a connection with either one of them.

Speaker 5 (22:46):
But I can't do it with Kentucky and Louisville.

Speaker 4 (22:48):
We always have to remember that these people are what
I would be to Colorado and Colorado State. It's a job,
not their essence, Yeah, which is what it is for us.
So that's why we should always kind of not be
shocked that they do this.

Speaker 5 (23:04):
If they do it.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
Coaches, especially assistant coaches in football, they bounce around usually
every year. Staffs change after every season, but like I
said earlier, it usually happens in January February before spring football.
Darren Williams, Darren Williams is a good win. Yuh anybody else?
Dan Palumbo, that's not a name Polombio you.

Speaker 5 (23:27):
Think of Joey Palumbo.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
Here was a five star sayer.

Speaker 5 (23:33):
He's gonna be sad too, lost as Jeff Ruby's friend.

Speaker 1 (23:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (23:38):
TJ Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ.

Speaker 6 (23:41):
He'll make them pay now.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

Speaker 6 (23:46):
Here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 4 (23:47):
All right, I am gonna tell the Michigan story and uh,
I got it, and I'm gonna go to the phone
calls for here just right now.

Speaker 5 (23:53):
But let me just say I'm sorry Murray State. Like
it was awesome. He's made the world. It was awesome.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
They had to win the game twice.

Speaker 4 (24:00):
Yeah, and it was And I guess we'll have to
talk about it tomorrow because I do want to talk
about it, but we just can't right now. Yeah, even
though it was awesome, it was awesome, and we'll try
to get skirnerk Skirka on later in the week. It
was awesome and I was as happy as I've been
for a non Kentucky baseball team ever.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
Same but sorry, this is this is what it is.

Speaker 5 (24:23):
You what? Okay? So did that dude play at Illinois?
Did I said he didn't play.

Speaker 1 (24:27):
At Illinois, And Dan Pallambizio.

Speaker 5 (24:30):
That's not a person.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
It is a person. He was Indiana, mister basketball, but
he didn't play Illinois where he played ball state.

Speaker 6 (24:38):
Close.

Speaker 5 (24:39):
That's a very different shan in ball state in Illinois.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
I thought he went to Illinois, h And you.

Speaker 4 (24:43):
Thought he went to Illinois, but he went to ball
State went to ball State. Okay, it's not the same,
so we still I'll still say just Darren Williams, he's
Nick Anderson apparently went there too. Yeah, all right, let's
go through here. Uh Fake Barney thirty seconds.

Speaker 18 (25:00):
Is now my second favorite Vince or even lower.

Speaker 16 (25:04):
Beyond behind Vince gil Matt.

Speaker 1 (25:06):
I'm joining all the women fifteen years older than us.

Speaker 18 (25:09):
To say, go rist.

Speaker 11 (25:12):
Deeps the Highway, Baits Shop, Little Dog, your time of
kim a lot is done.

Speaker 17 (25:19):
Traded death rubyes for trash bag.

Speaker 16 (25:22):
Juice at tailgates, crappy science museums, and hepatitis days have come.

Speaker 18 (25:30):
Wow.

Speaker 8 (25:31):
Wow, Crey Barney comes from the Alto.

Speaker 5 (25:35):
Bell a while since we've heard from had a song for.

Speaker 6 (25:37):
Vince feels like an old school cast this day.

Speaker 4 (25:39):
It kind of does with some of these some of
these older folks. All right, let's go to Joey thirty seconds.

Speaker 19 (25:46):
I can't fuck I can't be serious as for Fake Barney,
but uh so, I guess it was a rollercoaster emotions
for me. I was really tore up, I was really upset,
and then I realized it's probably something petty that sent
him to Woisvill from Kentucky. So I'm not gonna all that.
You know, I really don't think he can.

Speaker 17 (26:02):
The absence of Vince Marl is really gonna affect us
that much program wise. But then I thought after your
Twitter space, I couldn't sleep last night. I was so
upset when you said that Joe Kraft would support him.

Speaker 5 (26:15):
I didn't say that.

Speaker 4 (26:16):
Let me be clear. I didn't say that. I said
someone asked me, and I appreciate the call. Would Joe
Craft still be Kentucky for and I said, yes, Kentucky
will always Joe Craft is like us. Joe Craft is
like us. Kentucky first leads Blue Bleeds Blue. He is

(26:36):
not gonna be switching to Louisville. The question was, is
it plausible that he could do something for Vince at Louisville?
And I said, I didn't know, but it wouldn't shock
me because they are best friends.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
It's definitely plausible.

Speaker 4 (26:53):
It's plausible. I didn't say it would happen, say it
was plausible. Kentucky will always will be first for them.
I'm sure of that. But would it shock me? Was
my question? And I said, no, I think you're fair
what you just said about that. Um, yes, so that
I do want to be clear about that. Look, the

(27:14):
stuff is named after joking, Kentucky's still going to be first, Yes,
but you know I would use it as an example
of like, take my friend Tall Tall ran for the
Republican governor of Kentucky.

Speaker 5 (27:32):
Tall is a Democrat. But if he if he ran
for it, would I give him money?

Speaker 4 (27:37):
Yeah? Probably because he's like my one of my best friends. Yes,
that's the way I think that they would see it.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
What is Joe crash relationship with Mark Stoops?

Speaker 4 (27:47):
Then I assume positive. I have no reason to assume.
But Vince was who he was the closest to, much
more so than anyone else, more than Mark, more than cow,
more than anybody.

Speaker 5 (27:59):
Was was Vince Peggy. Thirty seconds.

Speaker 20 (28:05):
You said that Vince is married to the President's as secretary.

Speaker 4 (28:11):
Yeah, I don't know she still. I don't think she
still works now she still work, But that's that they were.
She did work there.

Speaker 20 (28:17):
Okay, Okay, Well then that throws up my scenario that
he knew what was coming down, but going to Louisville. Really, Vince,
come on, give us all a break. And as far
as him and Mark fighting, well, because Mark in my

(28:37):
opinion has become a me me, me me coach.

Speaker 4 (28:41):
There you go, Peggy with her take. Peggy comes in again.
People coming out with hurt him for a while, just
like still as disappointed in you, Jerry Tomorrow. You got
to make amends. Bill, go ahead, Bill.

Speaker 7 (28:54):
Talks about him, dish something fell. Always play on the
show that I'm creach. Every time you say it is
you got to do what's best for you, And so
I know, Matt you will say, well, I don't think
this is best for Vince, but should he be allowed
to make that decisions himself?

Speaker 4 (29:10):
And anyway, well, man, are you saying you are you
disagree that he should do what's best for him? Or like,
I don't get your point totally Bills.

Speaker 7 (29:24):
On the show, you all will say, well, you've got
to do what's best for him, and I just think
that that's not always the case. I hate that he's gone.
He did a great job for us, but you know
he thinks it's best for him. You all always say, well.

Speaker 4 (29:39):
Yeah, I I appreciate the call, but you know what, yeah,
you do have to do. I mean, okay, let's say
I had no connection to Kentucky. I appreciate the call.
Bill and and and Vince was my friend, and he
said should I do this? And I go, well, you
gotta do what's best for you. But I do have
a connection to Kentucky, and I do.

Speaker 5 (29:59):
Should he do what's for him?

Speaker 4 (30:00):
Sure, but that doesn't mean it's like when people say
something like I always hate when people who go You know,
in today's worlds, you can't say what you want. Yes
you can, but you also have to deal with the
reaction to it.

Speaker 5 (30:14):
Right, you can say it.

Speaker 4 (30:17):
But the world doesn't guarantee you that people will not
get mad at you. I will stand up for anybody's
right to say something and not go to prison for
saying it, But I'm not gonna say you have a
right to not get yelled at back. Vince has a
right to go to Louisville. If that's what's best for him,
he should do it. But he's gonna get flipped off

(30:40):
of the Dunkin knows like that's part like you don't
have a right to get the reaction you want. You
have a right to do your behavior, but Ryan, the
reaction is what it is.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
Like we said earlier in the show's if he's gone
to Michigan State today, we are celebrating Vince Merrill, but
he didn't. He's going to our down the street. Are
in state rival, so he's this is why the uh,
the emotions are so high about this scenario.

Speaker 5 (31:06):
Yes, uh, Luthor thirty seconds.

Speaker 17 (31:11):
Listen, enjoy the second rate fan based down on Floyd Street.

Speaker 7 (31:14):
They're bums. You're a bum. You make me sick. The
fanvestment makes me sick. Enjoy the train track and agent.
Put a brawl on le.

Speaker 5 (31:24):
Luthor. Dennis, go ahead, Dennis.

Speaker 21 (31:29):
Coach marrow Man, I used to love, and now I
despise you are a trader. You have betrayed the UK
based UK fans. And now my question to Matt Jones
is who do we go after it that's going to
be a great recruiter, someone like a Wesley Goodyard.

Speaker 5 (31:48):
Yes or no?

Speaker 4 (31:50):
I would say if it were me, I would make CJ.
Conrad the tight end coach for this year. I think
he's done a great job. I appreciate call players love him.
I think he's done a lot of the really good
X and O like I think CJ. Conray is great.

Speaker 5 (32:04):
Is that your long term recruiting option?

Speaker 4 (32:06):
Probably not, But I don't know that they're gonna be
able to fill that ride by August.

Speaker 1 (32:10):
Yeah, this timing of this is kind of weird.

Speaker 5 (32:12):
Of what makes this so bad as the timing.

Speaker 1 (32:13):
Though, Yeah, I don't even know where CJ is now.
He was an EKU for a year and then I
think he went somewhere else last year.

Speaker 5 (32:18):
Oh yeah, he would be my pick.

Speaker 4 (32:20):
But I mean, listen, the loss of Vince is less
about the tight end coach part of it.

Speaker 5 (32:26):
Correct That is that is a replaceable thing.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
Good point, you can replace a coach. It's that perception.
Now to me, it's the recruiting and the perception. The
perception is huge.

Speaker 4 (32:37):
I mean, listen, how many times does an assistant coach
leaving make national news at a school like Kentucky.

Speaker 5 (32:44):
Never? Never, But Vince did.

Speaker 1 (32:47):
And it's all we've talked about.

Speaker 4 (32:48):
All this was on it was on sports like, it
was on the Sports Center, social media pages.

Speaker 1 (32:54):
Is how big of a movie?

Speaker 4 (32:54):
That tells you how big of a movie? And in
college football, in the college football world, it will will
definitely be seen as something. All right, let's do uh,
let's do Jared real quick thirty seconds.

Speaker 18 (33:09):
Okay, Vince Merrill, the Dirty Bird Finger and the L's
Down shall now be the official Vince Merrill greeting. He
did that to UK football, UK Athletics and now BBN.
Don't go to the loser bill down the road. The
real Jerry out.

Speaker 4 (33:28):
There you go, Shannon, He says, he's the real Jerry. Okay,
aren't you disappointed in Jerry little bit?

Speaker 5 (33:33):
Yeah, it was a little bit disappointed in Jerry.

Speaker 1 (33:35):
It was our second call too. He's like, he's.

Speaker 5 (33:37):
Probably called more about football than anybody.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
By the way, this catch by the gal As was insane.
He's like he's had like three catches like that in
the past.

Speaker 4 (33:46):
That's one of the best news I've ever seen. I mean,
he used the wall to lift himself up. That's really unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (33:51):

(34:35):
the segments. I don't want you to have to hold
and then not get on. We'll get you tomorrow. We'll
take a break and be right back.

Speaker 5 (34:39):
This kiss.

Speaker 4 (34:42):
Good conversations during the break here sports radio, right shity,
you can't get into it.

Speaker 5 (34:48):
I wish we could, but we can't. All right. So
I don't think I've ever told this story before, have I.

Speaker 8 (34:53):
I don't think you've ever told it on the air.
All right, So this is a true story, and it
is I use this story just to sort of.

Speaker 4 (35:05):
Remind you that people that we talk about as coaches
et cetera. Are at their core just human beings with
human emotions, where little things can annoy you.

Speaker 5 (35:15):
Yes. Right, So I have a friend.

Speaker 4 (35:18):
Who, like a week and a half ago, I had
a little negative interaction with and when I stepped back
and looked at it, I was like, this is over
something really stupid, right, And sometimes it's just over, especially with.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
Men, just like pride, a lot of it.

Speaker 5 (35:34):
At times it's just pride.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (35:36):
So this is a true story. And I feel like
it's been eight years, so you can say something. So
when when Vince first got offered a gig somewhere else
that I can remember a big one.

Speaker 5 (35:50):
It was Michigan, Michigan.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
This was when Harball first got to Michigan, right, So
what when we're talking, maybe twenty seventeen.

Speaker 5 (35:59):
I don't remember, maybe something like that.

Speaker 4 (36:02):
And I would often during that time talk with Vince
and he would tell me his thought process, and he
called me and we This was one of the times
we were talking about it and he said something to
the effect of, you know, I'm considering this, and I
was like, you know, man, I'd understand Michigan.

Speaker 5 (36:19):
It's Michigan for it's Haarball. I get it.

Speaker 1 (36:22):
Before we had our ten win seasons. It's Michigan.

Speaker 5 (36:24):
I think that we I think maybe we hadn't had
a ten win season yet, but we were good.

Speaker 4 (36:29):
We were on the troupe, right, and uh, I said,
I understand, and he said, well, I don't really want to,
but I don't really want to leave. I go, oh, okay,
and then he said, but it doesn't feel like Mark
really cares if I stay or go. And I said oh.

(36:50):
I was like, he hasn't really expressed that to you,
and he goes, uh, not really, and I went, okay. Well,
I was like, I'm sure he does these lifelong friend Yeah.
I'm like, well, I'm sure he does. Hour later, phone rings,
it's Mark. Mark says, do you think he's gonna go?

(37:12):
And I said, I don't know, you know, I'm not sure.
And he said I don't understand why Vince won't just
call and tell me that he wants to stay and
that he wants to be here. And I said, well,
why don't you call him? And he was like, well,
I mean I think he should call me. Then I

(37:35):
call Vince. I'm like, why don't you call Mark? And
he was like, well, if he wants me to stay,
he should call me, sing I'm not making this up.

Speaker 5 (37:45):
I know, I'm a radio host, Shannon.

Speaker 4 (37:47):
Yeah, both of these coaches, who are both having success
and our friends are both saying, why won't the other
one call me?

Speaker 5 (37:56):
So I called Dwayne Peavey and I said.

Speaker 4 (38:01):
This is what they're saying. And he was like, are
you serious? I said, yeah, what do we do? And
he goes, all right, I'll call them both and he
three ways him in and twenty minutes later I get
a call from Vincey.

Speaker 5 (38:16):
Stand. It took.

Speaker 4 (38:19):
All it took was the two of them getting on
the phone together, but neither of them wanted to make
the first phone call he took. It took me getting
Dwayne to bring the two of them together. Dwayne, by
the way, the basketball ad at the time, not even

(38:43):
he wasn't even over football, right. It took the bringing
him in to get these two people who'd had a
lifelong relationship to just put their egos aside and talk
to each other. Yep, right, And twenty minutes later it
was fine. And I always think about that story to
think like, don't let stupid stuff like ego get in

(39:06):
the way of a good thing. Okay, fast forward eight
years later. I don't know what all has happened in
the interim since then. I don't talk to Mark nearly
as much as I used to back then, almost never,
and still thought to Vince, although I hadn't in a while.

Speaker 5 (39:22):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (39:22):
Maybe that maybe like it wouldn't have taken off on
call this time.

Speaker 5 (39:26):
Maybe it's a lot more than.

Speaker 4 (39:27):
That, probably is, But it is always important to remember
that sometimes when you're sitting there and thinking about these
big things, sometimes it's just human beings and they're frailties
that lead to things like this happened.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
Well, you talked about it, and Shannon just said it
a lot of time it's pride then for professionally, for men,
it's pride. So hearing what you just said, I blame
you and dlame Peebe for this split this week, Bland,
you guys get them did them together.

Speaker 4 (39:50):
I didn't work here anymore and I did not know
this was going down, so I'm not sure that it
would have.

Speaker 5 (39:57):
It would have played out exactly the same this stuff.
But I mean, are you edits core?

Speaker 4 (40:03):
Let me ask you this. I have a strong answer
to this, but I'll ask you ed its core? Do
you think this is ultimately about two friends who just
couldn't make it work out.

Speaker 1 (40:15):
I think there's some truth to that. I think it
comes down to this is this is how I take it.
I think Vince has seen the writing on the wall.
He doesn't like the way things are going at UK.
He's got a chance for to go to three years.
I'm taking it friendship aside. I think it was about
when the perception of the program is not in good

(40:37):
standing right now, not the way he thinks it.

Speaker 4 (40:39):
I would disagree with that. I mean, I do think
that's probably part of it. I mean, if they had
won ten games, would he Yeah, But I do think
I think this is just a relationship that kind of broke.

Speaker 1 (40:53):
But that's kind of sad that he's kind of sad.
But he's going to Louisville, so like anywhere else, anywhere else,
I'm okay, he could probably go to an SEC school.
I'd be okay, you can't go to Louisville.

Speaker 4 (41:06):
Yeah, can't go to louis So, you know, Uh, I
wish I wish it hadn't happened. But now we're gonna
still talk about this more, obviously, but going forward, I'm
on Kentucky side.

Speaker 5 (41:20):
Yes, you know, we gotta do the best like we got.

Speaker 4 (41:23):
We gotta hope we win, right, doesn't do us any
good to hope we lose. I'm never gonna be the
person that says, well, I hope we have a bad
year so we can move like.

Speaker 5 (41:31):
I'm never gonna be that.

Speaker 4 (41:32):
Guy we needed to win. Now, Do I think we will?
I'm not real confident right now, but I hope we do.

Speaker 1 (41:40):
Does the temperature of Mark Stoops's seat get a little
hotter and now it.

Speaker 5 (41:43):
Was already hot, but now it's like scalding.

Speaker 1 (41:45):
I think so too.

Speaker 5 (41:46):
Now it's like scolding.

Speaker 1 (41:47):
I think so too.

Speaker 4 (41:48):
So because because because we're gonna have a summer of
recruiting where they're probably gonna get a lot of guys more.

Speaker 1 (41:53):
Not well, some people decommit that Vince were.

Speaker 4 (41:56):
Bridging commitments, So I don't think it can't be that
man commitment. We only had two storms have been hitting
Kentucky like crazy, and there's a few things the folks
at blue Grass Roofing and Consulting want you to know.
They're not storm chases chasers and will not knock on
your door after a storm. They are not a door
knocking company. Blue Grass Roofing and Consulting does not require
to you signs any sort of agreement so that you

none of these dirty little things roofing companies have done.
Family veteran and first responder own fully insured. Call one

Consulting and use my code kas R. It's Bluegrass Roofing

Speaker 5 (42:45):
Bluegrass Roofing in Consulting. Quite a day here. Do we
put this one on the best of list?

Speaker 7 (42:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (42:51):
Success, save this.

Speaker 5 (42:52):
We have to do this. This is one that you
will show that we'll do. We will be back.

Speaker 4 (42:56):
Tomorrow to do this and Murray state seriously, I wish
we could have given you more time because you deserved it.
After that, win Bye bye MH.

I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
