This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now
here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
All right, good morning, Welcome lazy gentlemen, boys and girls.
Grat Pauls and grandma's, aunts and uncles and lots of
grandpa's and grandma's today because we are live in a
retirement community today, we'll talk about that when Matt gets here. No,
they're taking ahead. No, it's not a retirement community. Well
that's kind of how you won.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
The right to host this show, but going as a
retirement community.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
So right, living here, Matt Jones will be here just
a couple of minutes. You may have just pulled up,
I think right now, so, uh, Shannon the Dude and
I here as always a Texports response by the t J.
Smith Low It's called TJ. What happens Shannon? He'll make
them pay, He'll make them pay. And of course we've
got our country country boy guys are here today. Uh,
they brought the new Shannon the Dude Brew can Shannon.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
I can't wait to see that.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
What an awesome label. That's an awesome label they've got
on Shannon the Dude's Brew. And so that'll be broadcast
all across the country here just a short time and
Kroger's gonna have it here in a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
Was that Matt?
Speaker 3 (01:26):
No, it wasn't Matt, Okay, So.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
So I gotta know, I gotta know, like the story.
First of all, I'm getting a lot of feedback on
the can you move the microphone there from there?
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Well?
Speaker 3 (01:36):
We did put it back here, Mario's try that.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
Okay, we did, But.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
I gotta know, like what's going on? Like why isn't
Matt there? What happened?
Speaker 4 (01:44):
Happened?
Speaker 3 (01:44):
I'm not gonna say. I'm gonna let him tell that story. Uh,
I don't think it's my place responsibility to say what
is what's going.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
On, Sonna be hiding underneath with somebody's kitchen table here
in a minute.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
I might, I might, but uh, but you know, we
had a contest last week. Matt had the idea gonna
take KSR to people's houses. They're private residents. So Shannon,
we had people call in and Laura Knight called in
representing the community here. I won't call her retirement community
the community, and we picked her. She I think the
final two were her and a horse farm in Paris,
(02:16):
and we picked her to come and have the show
here at her house.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
They wait a minute now, you say you can't call
it retirement community. I think that was literally her words,
a retirement community.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
That was her words, and that's why I think why
we picked it so but it is I think, I
can you know up in that said, we've got a
lot of grandpas and grandma's in here, and they are rocking, Shannon.
They've been here since already this morning. They probably got
up at four o'clock this morning to get ready. Yeah,
a lot of blue and white on we're going to
tailgate at a football game. But this will be a
lot of fun today as we begin our venture this summer.
(02:47):
I guess we're gonna do this all summer. Just try
to go to people's houses all across the state.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Now, as you were driving through that community today, did
you have an eye out for maybe any pineapples on
front porches, maybe some that were upside down? Did you
see anything?
Speaker 3 (03:01):
You said that because they heard your discussion on the
pre show and they weren't happy. This is not an
upside pineapp community to.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Me, and I'm not here to make people happy. I mean,
I'm just saying what I've seen, what I've heard.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
I think you and Billy were implying this was an
upside down pineapple community and it is not. Okay, it's
a very nice community. We haven't really disclosed where it is,
but it's if you're in the Lectionnera, you kind of
know the upscale retirement community and this is where we are,
and uh and they have packed it in here today,
So I think I think it'll be a lot of
fun once we get going.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
Now.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Of course, Laura had to kind of twist the truth
a little bit until we were going to a retirement
home in a retirement center community.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Okay, are we sure? Because I don't think they even
like the word retirement being used at all.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Yeah, I think we're getting some side side glances on
that word, but we're gonna go with it right now.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
Uh, for our first show.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
They've got finger foods, they've got Laura made homemade cookie shit,
and then they're awesome. We've got ham sandwiches, We've got
all kind and goodies and stuff and country boys here
with Shannon the Dude will be a lot of fun
today eight five nine two eight h two two eight
seven after Clark's pumpy shot phone number the Avision glass
Tex machine, Matt will be here with that two seven
seven two seven seven four five two five four to
get a lot of calls and comments today because I
(04:15):
think we could have a fun show. You know, we've
talked about Vince Merril though the last two days, Shanon,
Vince has been the number one topic, and everywhere you
go outside of this radio show, that's all you may
want to talk about is Vince Merrill.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Well, it was officially announced just this morning. I don't
know if you saw that, but it's for a three
year deal. Just became official and he says his goal
is to win a national championship, which I mean, I
guess you have to say that, right, I mean, why
else would you take the job. Of course, the goal
is national champion But just to hear and read those
words coming from Vince Merrill, trying to win a national
championship at Louisvill is just it's a tough pill to swallow.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Well, let's look at it from both sides. If you're
looking at Kentucky's season and schedule, they're they're they're not
gonna be making the playoffs. You're looking at louis season
and schedule, they got a chance to maybe make the playoffs.
You got to get in the playoff to win a
national championships. So if he's thinking that route, I can
do you understand why maybe he's his thinking is that way?
Speaker 4 (05:07):
Well?
Speaker 2 (05:07):
I mean yeah, I mean, if you're saying, who has
a better chance at winning a national championship, of course
it's Louisville. But again, though at your bitter rival. You're
leaving straight from Kentucky to go to Louisville, and you know,
if you're going to do that, you have to be
ready for the fan base to react the way that
they have. I don't know how else you could. Now,
we have had some callers that were kind of like, well,
I understand, but no, I don't understand ever going from
(05:29):
Kentucky straight to Louisville. So I'm not going to be
like Billy and wish him luck professionally. Uh No, I
hope he loses every game at Lovelle. So I'm not
going to be one of these people that's cheering for Vince.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Is that Mac's here? Hey, they're sorry about that, And
how's everybody doing?
Speaker 3 (05:46):
They're doing great?
Speaker 5 (05:47):
Well?
Speaker 4 (05:48):
Good? Sorry, can anybody hear me right now?
Speaker 5 (05:50):
No?
Speaker 4 (05:50):
I know, good? Gotcha? Well, thank you all very much.
I ended up in the wrong place. I was out
there all the way in Hamburg at nine fifty. I
made record time to get back here.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
Ryan, Well, you said you thought you'd make it by
the showtime, like there is no way, but you almost did.
I don't know how you pulled that off.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
First of all, thank you guys very much for coming.
Look at this great crowd here this morning, and thank
you for the give me the names of the people
that are hosting.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Judd and Laura Knight are hosted.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
Jud and Laura. Nice to see right. Well, so I
have to tell you this, this has been this has
been a stressful morning. Not only did I realize I
was in the wrong place, but on my sprint here
I started getting calls. I think the Vince Louisville News.
Is it official? Yes, it's going it's going to be
official here momentarily it is official now there so three
(06:43):
year deal, three year deal being paid essentially the same,
maybe a little bit more money than he was going
to make here. So now we don't have to wonder
why it's been why it's been not said yet. I
would say to you as soon as I saw that
it was going to be official, little sad? Are you
sad about it?
Speaker 3 (07:01):
I'm absolutely sad about it. We all like Vince, We
like him as a person, like him as a coach,
and to have him depart us I kind of feel
a little betrayed, I think a little bit.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
I do think he'll regret it. That's just my prediction.
I wish him the best, but I think he'll regret it.
I think that's one of these things that when you
so I got a little more insight on this morning,
maybe talk to some sources around the UK football program.
You know, we've said that some Evince's role had been
taken away. I think that was true. I don't think
(07:34):
it all went to Eddie gran as we had kind
of heard. I think a lot of the final say
on players went to the coordinators. And this is basically
what I was told used to be. When you could
get a twenty five person high school class, they would
say to Vince, hey, you go get us ten or
(07:54):
eleven guys from Ohio and Kentucky. You decide and we'll
take them. And the good thing was sometimes really hit right.
He got Benny Snell, he got Lynn Bowden, he got
Mike Edwards, he got like J. CJ. Conra. I mean,
there's especially in those earlier there's fifteen twenty guys he
got that were really good, but they were also duds, right,
(08:14):
And the idea was, hey, Vince, you can get ten
or eleven guys. If a few of them are duds,
that's okay because that's your group. Well, in today's portal world,
you can't really do that. You can't just you don't
go get twenty five high school guys anymore. You gotta
get guys in the portal, et cetera. And so the
(08:35):
amount of guys he could go get was more limited,
and all the guys that were gonna he was gonna
get We're gonna have to be filtered through the coordinators.
They basically couldn't afford the bus anymore. You can't like
take a high school kid that's not gonna play and
put them in. And I think Vince was was frustrated
by that, and then you got a three year deal
(08:58):
for one point three million dollars. I think UK football
has taken the view and we should talk about this
that if we're gonna be paying these players twenty point
five million dollars, we can't give these coaches these salaries anymore.
You know, you can't get three years one point three
million dollars a year for a tight end coach because
(09:21):
we got to share this money with the player, right,
I predicted to you, I don't think head coaches are
gonna see as much money as they used to. So
I think a lot of that probably went into it,
and Louisville decided to make that investment, and that's how
we get where we.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Are, you know, with the numbers that come out today.
And you kind of hinted at the other day it
really wasn't about money. You thought he was gonna maybe
get about the same and hid and now.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
Yeah, I don't think he got more money. I think
it was about power. Power makes it sound like he's
being like like it's Game of Thrones. I don't. I mean, well,
his Game of Thrones a little bit, but it's I
don't think it's like, you know, power, like I'm gonna
roll over the world. It's just the ability. They used
to say to events, We trust events. Here's ten, ten scholarships,
(10:00):
you figure out who's taken. And it worked out a
lot of time, works out last couple of years. As
Adam Luckett and Nick Rousch have noted, it didn't work
out quite as well. Some of what he brought didn't
work quite as well, and so they said, okay, maybe
that ten is now five, and everybody's got to approve
who you get. And you know, it's like anything in life.
(10:20):
When you're used to a certain amount of freedom and
then it's taken away from you, you resent it. And
I think that was part of it. But I've heard
that Mark and Vince have talked now they're still gonna
be friends. You know, I have a hard time believing
they're gonna be quite as good a friends again. I mean,
if Shannon goes to just the Cutler, I'm gonna be
a little bit frustrated by it. But you know, do
(10:44):
you think you could be as good of friends with
a person who left you?
Speaker 3 (10:48):
In that scenario, I could be friends, but professionally I
am not going to be close to him at all.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
You could still be friends, I think if I Shannon,
shall we test this theory here? Yeah? Yeah, if I
said to you, I love you, but I'm replacing you
on this show with someone else from the Lexington TV community,
but we're still gonna be great friends. Yeah, you think
(11:15):
you still would be great friends with me?
Speaker 3 (11:17):
Not great friends. I think I could be friends. It
might be the guy who replaced me with I have
an issue with, Like, why would you be.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
Mad at them? I don't know. He's sitting in my
chair as my chair? You know what? Why would you
get mad at the new husband?
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Right?
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Well, of course I'm gonna get mad at the new
husband more than that.
Speaker 4 (11:34):
You're my wife. I still kind of like you. I
don't like the new husband. That's an interesting theory. You're
much more mad at the person who didn't do anything
to you. Yeah, that other person is just looking for
a job than the person who sort of betrayed you.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Yeah, well I feel like there's still some love there.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
I'm not gonna call the name, but Shannon, you know
this as well. Ryan had someone that he was not
nearly as close to as he is us just simply
disagree with you on a business transaction once. That was
twenty years ago and you still haven't gotten over it.
That was a little betrayal. I think that. But you
(12:12):
weren't even friends with that person.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
No, but you know, I think professionally, when you get
betrayed like that, I'm done done with you.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
I don't understand his reasoning, Shannon to go along with it. Yeah,
so anyway that the claim from the UK side, there's
no hard feelings, it's all okay. I just I have
a hard time believe. And I don't know how you
can grow up with a guy. You bring him to
his job, he gets this huge amount of prominence and
then he goes to your rival. That's and it's gonna
(12:41):
put a ton of pressure on you. I don't know
how that doesn't at least frustrate you a little bit.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
I just thought of this question. You know, Coach Dupes
let Eddie grand Go brought him back. Wolford left brought
him back. Is there ever a scenario where Stoops would
bring Vince probably.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
Steps saying I'll be there long enough.
Speaker 4 (12:57):
He shann was gonna say that he would didn't know
if he'd be there. I think the first thing is
getting through the next year or two. Yeah, then you
can talk about whether.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Or not maybe there in three years, but he won't
be there in four, five, six years.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
Yeah, Well we will find out if five nine two
eight oh twenty two eighty seven. We are here? Should
we are we allowed to say where we are. I'm
not gonna give your address, but the name of the
community I didn't, okay, so we're not gonna give it.
Country Boy is here. Yeah, look at you bringing the
beer here for these folks.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
The new Shannon the Dude Brew little logo label they
just debuted it today.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
That looks like the rape label of a. Oh wait
a minute, that's you on the can Shah.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
It's awesome. I can't wait to actually put it out there.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
Lying through the air like that's you wrestling.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
There's there's three parts to that.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
That really is really cool. Now I wish I had
a beer A five nine two eight oh twenty two
eighty seven. Clark. Did you do all the Clark's pumping
shop and all that? We hit most of them? Yeah,
so you didn't know. Seven seven two seven seven four
five two five four is a Vision Auto glass text
machine stition sponsored by the T. J. Smith Lofice. We
will take a break, sorry about being late. This is
Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio
(14:04):
here live. We are kind of off man of war.
We won't give specific details, although I did hear from
one of the people here maybe Mark Stoops lives not
very far from here, so maybe we can maybe when
this is over, we can like sneak on the property
or something.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
A little little five iron shot away. We could probably
get Oh you think it's a five iron when you
get on that side of the car. Who's yours for you?
Speaker 4 (14:28):
I was gonna say for you, it's at least a
couple drive driver three would let me read you real quick?
Vince Marrow statement. I'm not read all of it, but it
starts right here. I love the state of Kentucky. This
has become my home. The opportunity to take on this
new and exciting role in the state where I have
so many incredible relationships something I couldn't pass up. I
also want to thank UK Mark Stoops, the administration and fans.
(14:49):
I have lifelong friendships, and I have every desire to
keep those relationships. That's why I wanted to stay in
the state. I love you, Vitz, but like they're not
gonna be the same. I mean, people are still don't
like him, but it's not gonna be I mean he's
not gonna get walk into Jeff Rubies and get a
well Mike and Louisville, yes, but in Lexton he's not
gonna get a standing ovation.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
I think we you know, that's all good, Vince, if
you're coaching somewhere else, but you're coaching at our rival,
the team we want.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
To beat their brains, not gonna have it. Eight eight
oh twenty two eighty seven Before we go the phones,
A couple other little things non Vince related. Uh, and
I'm sure some people will want to talk about him
on the phone as well. UK it's announced they don't
get in C state in the UK sec ACC Challenge.
They get North Carolina. Yeah. Uh, do you like that
(15:38):
more or less? I like it more and it's him rock.
So North Carolina's coming to up for the first time trying.
I think when the last time they've been here. I mean,
are we talking like, is it the Anthony Davis game?
Is that the last time Caroline's been right, because we
played him a lot, but we played him in the
CBS class See, you may be right about that.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
They they took him off the schedule when he got
that CBS Classic thing going him, And it might be.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
I mean we played them every other year. I know
we played him in Walls year in twenty ten, and
we played them in Davis's year in twenty twelve. Did
we play him with the twins and all that in
twenty fourteen?
Speaker 3 (16:10):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (16:11):
I don't think we did. So. I think the last
time Weed, I mean it's been, it's been, it'll be
fourteen years. Well, I guess they're playing him in the Falls.
It'll between fift thirteen years. Rather play them than NC State, who,
by the way, in C State loaded up and was
actually in C State's probably gonna better than North Carolina
this year. But what do you think?
Speaker 3 (16:30):
But there's something about when North Carolina comes in to
play Kentucky that game is just special. It just feels different.
I remember I went to a couple of those games
and it just feels something special might happen. So even
though North Carolina is not as good as North Carolina
of old, it's still that ugly baby blue North Carolina
coming out there on the film.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
This's a huge year for Hubert Davis too. I mean,
if they don't have a good year, he might be replaced.
They got a good recruiting class, but they're still ranked
in like the twenties. They spent that there's some reports
they spent more money on the portal than any buddy,
and they're still ranked in the twenties. But you're right,
I mean, there's something about that jersey. And think about
(17:07):
how many amazing Kentucky Carolina games have been in Ropperena. Yeah, okay,
Anthony Davis block, Yes, John Wall gets introduced to the
world in that game. Tayshawn Prince's five threes is in
that game at Rupperena, Gerald Fitch, I think hit a
shot at the buzzer or very close to the buzzer
to win there in Rupperina. Remember that those those home
(17:29):
and home series back and that's four that I can
think of in rough that were great games. Are there
any others that you that you can think of.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
I can't remember, you know anything, but finishes like that, those, I.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
Mean those are four like legendary. Was this in the
last twenty five years.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
If we talk about road games, the game where Malik
Monk and lost.
Speaker 4 (17:48):
But yeah, there's been great ones. I mean we've played
them a lot in great games. We had to played.
We beat them once when I was in law school
down in Chapel Hill. I was at that game that
was the Jason Parker. Yeah game. But in RUP there's
been a cool environment. So that means you get returned
up this year North Carolina and Indiana. It's like the eighties.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
Are back, the old Tubby schedule Worrell back to back Saturdays,
you'd get Louisville, North Carolina, Indiana pretty much. So I'm excited.
But even like I said, Eve, though North Carolina's gonna
be a great team, it's still North Carolina.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
Shannon, you prefer North Carolina or a Will Wade led
NC State this year that loaded up on player. Probably
the best INNC State roster. I know he went to
the Final four a couple of years ago, but probably
the best INCA State roster in twenty years.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Yeah, even though NC State might be better than North
Carolina this year, I like North Carolina just because of
the blue blood aspect Kentucky. North Carolina just feels right.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
So Kentucky's schedule, if you're talking powerhouse teams, Kentucky's non
conference schedule is going to include Michigan State, North Carolina, Indiana, Louisville, Gonzaga, Wow,
and who else? I'm miss Saint John's.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
Saint John's.
Speaker 4 (18:58):
Yeah, so that's in the non conference. That's six really
good games. You've got a couple of traditional programs. You
got Rick Patino, you got Mark Few, you got Tom Izzo.
I mean, this is I don't think this is the
hardest non conference we've ever had, but it might have
as much marquee star power as as any that we've
(19:22):
ever had.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
Yeah, those days of getting the School of the Blind
and Little Sisters of the Poor come in.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
Say that about Little Sisters of the.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
Poor, Well, they're not a very good basketball team. Is
that even really a place? Well, they're not a very
good team.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
But I don't think it's also real, But go ahead.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
But so you know the home season ticket holders.
Speaker 4 (19:37):
Were they only get two games. I mean, they only
get North Carolina India.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
But still having those two games is better than Little
Sisters of the Poor coming in.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
And then in conference play the SEC, I don't think
it's gonna be nearly as good. I mean, I think
it's gonna be good, but I don't it's it's not
gonna be nearly as good as you're gonna have. Florida's
gonna be really good, But just go look at those
top teams. I think Alabama's worse, Roburt's worst, Tennessee's worse.
I would say Florida is a little worse, but they're
(20:06):
still gonna be really good. But I think I think,
you know a lot a lot of these teams. Texas
may be the only team of the top teams that's
going to be better. I think in general, the SEC
is there for the taking this year.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Yeah, people still with tooting on the Arkansas Horne think
they're going to be good again this year.
Speaker 4 (20:22):
I mean, they might be a little better, but I
don't think they're gonna be great.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
If I was ranking them right now, I put Kentucky
second or Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (20:28):
If I would go into the preseason the SEC and
put Florida one in US two, Yeah, that's what I
think that's fair.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
That should just be in a UK station. I think
that's fair.
Speaker 4 (20:35):
You look at the talent this year. Yeah, so Kentucky
and Carolina A little bit of a surprise because we're
scheduled to play Carolina next year in the Champions Classic,
which means we will not return to favor. We will
not be going to Chapel Hill. They have to come
here and there's no return back.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
So does that mean though we could possibly go to
Cameron Well, I mean, would you like that? Yes, just
once in our career.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
But see, I think I could be wrong about this.
I think there's I think our years are alternated. So
I think Duke's playing at home this year, which means
I don't think Duke will play at home next time,
which makes me wonder if they'll ever align it so
that we can play them, so somebody have to play
right next year, they'll go on the road and we'll
be going on the road. So I wonder if maybe
(21:18):
that's a that's a problem. Who's up first? Ship to Corey?
Go ahead, Cory, Hey, what's going on?
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Guys?
Speaker 4 (21:27):
Was there?
Speaker 6 (21:27):
I'm driving the country Boy. I'm driving the country boy
truck down to h Franklin today to sell some country
boy beer. So I give them a shout out.
Speaker 4 (21:34):
It's very nice. A country I didn't know I'm going
to be here. It is nice country boy to be here.
Speaker 5 (21:38):
They have been.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
They're great. They come to all of our stuff. It's
very nice. And this woman has had at least six
So go ahead.
Speaker 6 (21:45):
Anyway. So we were talking about schedules just now. The
SEC must hate money to give a Kentucky Arkansas schedule
now one game a year, that's ridiculous to great.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
Yeah, that was announced two days ago. I appreciate the call.
Kentucky and Arkansas only playing once. I appreciate the call.
That's that's odd to me though, Yeah, I would think.
I mean, the way the schedule is now, you play
basically all the teams once except what three teams fort
How's there.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
Three or four?
Speaker 4 (22:16):
You played?
Speaker 3 (22:17):
We played twice last year, I.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
Can't remember, but we played Tennessee twice. We played Vandy
twice and then one other one and they didn't give
us Arkansas again.
Speaker 3 (22:26):
How could it not be Arkansas? I mean, you think
the SEC they want these high profile games. How could
it not be Kentucky and Arkansas twice?
Speaker 4 (22:32):
A year. I kind of feel like it's gonna be
Florida again. Yeah, you know, last year we only played
Florida once and it was a great game and we won.
We didn't have to go down there with Florida being
the best team and us maybe being the second best team.
I'm just guessing. I think they gave us that slot
to play Florida twice, just again. Though it's not out yea,
(22:54):
so we don't know if I'm nine two eight oh
twenty two eighty seven, shit and this is a cool
can We'll be right back to Kentucky Sports Radio. TJ Smith,
personal injury attorney, called TJ. He'll make them.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
Pay now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
Walking back Kentucky Sports Radio here live from Laura and
Judd's house. Who they created quite a scene here. I
had no idea what I was walking into. I didn't
know if there would be I didn't know if there
would be just them, a lot of people, and they
created quite it. Got cookies, country Boy, got Mario running around.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
They made ham sandwiches, Oh, ham sandwiches. Yes, that perked
you up, didn't it?
Speaker 4 (23:35):
Yeah. See, this is gonna be a high standard for
everybody else. We visited the first one we visit this summer.
This is gonna be a high standier. That's the Beach Boys,
Shannon Brian Wilson, Yeah, passed away at eighty two years old.
We have Beach Boy fans in here. I see a
lot of people shaking their heads.
Speaker 5 (23:52):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
You know, I know the Beach Boys from this kind
of music, But later on in their career, they they
did different kinds, didn't they, Shannon, like more serious.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Yep, yep. This is kind of the psychedelic part of
their career. I felt like every band back then went
through a psychedelic phase.
Speaker 4 (24:06):
This was Kenny Rogers even did that.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
That's your point, yeah, but legendary singer.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
You know.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
Of course, they kind of created the sub genre of
surfer rock, at least I think that's right. Yeah, so
I saw a little bit of the Beach Boys, I guess,
like whatever version exists now at Bourbon Beyond last year,
even though it wasn't really the Beach Boys, but you know,
one of those bands that always put you in a
good mood. If I'm going on vacasion, I'm at the
beach I'm putting on some beach boys, well, a lot.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
Of Big Brian Wilson one of those names you just
know from music. Also for people of our generation. Ananda,
is that how you say her name? I think Lewis
the MTV VJ. Yeah, that was on Total Request Live
when we were in college. She was only fifty two,
passed away of breast cancer, which I thought was very sad.
Speaker 5 (24:53):
You know.
Speaker 4 (24:53):
Her picture popped up, shanded on my feet and I went,
I know that woman.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
Yeah, say, I know that same thing.
Speaker 4 (24:58):
How do I know that woman? And then they I
saw who it was and it made me sad. Apparently
said she only had discovered she had it very recently
and then passed away, very sad, fifty two years old. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
The list of VJs out there that you can remember,
it's like you can see a face, but you're like,
I don't know where I went from.
Speaker 4 (25:17):
You got Carson Daily, Adam Curry, your guy Jesse, you
know that we do the Yeah, that guy. Yeah, what's
what was the name of the Matt Penfield?
Speaker 2 (25:28):
I'm buddies with him?
Speaker 4 (25:29):
Yeah, oh oh, your buddies with who? Oh?
Speaker 2 (25:32):
Yeah, yeah, we hang out. We hang out every year.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
At Bourbon beyond all right, well who knew man who
knew how much shit and was friends with everybody? If
I'm not uh two eight oh twenty two eighty seven,
I do want to say I've been trying to tell
this story for the last few days and we haven't
gotten right. I want to tell you if I should
be offended or if I should like consider this a compliment.
You tell me.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
Shannon and I are be great judges of this.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
The Ladies of kso Oh, by the way, Morehead States
baseball coach is gonna come on here him too, Murray
State's baseball coach. He's gonna come on here at eleven thirty.
Dan Skirka, Yes, and you get us ready for the
College World Series. But the Ladies of KSR Facebook page, Yes,
I'm a huge fan. Are you ladies on it? You
(26:16):
should be get on Facebook and asked to be on it.
There's like I think they have two thousand some members,
all women, and Jolie posted this on her on On
the page, she showed a picture of a of a
I guess it's a dog or is it a cat?
Speaker 3 (26:35):
Well, what do you think that's a dog?
Speaker 4 (26:39):
Well, but she said cat anyway, it doesn't matter. Point is, yeah,
that's a dog. This is Henry Harper. Okay, I named
Harper for Matt. Yeah, very nice, very nice, very nice.
That's very nice. But then the next sentence, it's epileptic
and judgmental, just like Matt. That's why I got the
(27:00):
middle name. Well, uh, pretty accurate. So do we call
that a compliment to name your dog uh after me
for being quote epileptic and judge. You could have just
stopped at the first part, or you know, you just
say I stopping epileptic.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
No no, no, no, no, not that part, just saying
I named it after.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
You, named it after matth I thought that. I think
that would have been very nice. But when they threw
in that other sentence, I didn't know whether or not
I could take that as a compliment or not.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Shann I think we gotta judge. I think it's a
fair at that patient.
Speaker 4 (27:33):
Why is it fair? I'm not judgmental.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
You're a bad person.
Speaker 4 (27:41):
Yeah, okay.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
If it were Ryan, it was late, you would have
definitely been judging him today.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
That's okay. See, I knew Shannon was gonna bring up
me being late. I knew I knew he was gonna do.
I knew Ryan wouldn't because he's been late. I knew
Shannon would bring it up, but it was only because
I got the wrong address. But compliment or not a compliment? Uh,
definitely not a compliment, but definitely not a compliment. Fair, Okay, Shannon,
compliment or not again?
Speaker 2 (28:04):
It was a compliment at first, but then when you
throw on the other two parts, No, now it's not
a compliment. You don't need the reason why you named
it after you. Just say I named a dog after you.
That's enough.
Speaker 4 (28:14):
You don't have to say, Joey, I appreciate you naming
it after me. Yeah, it did feel like that was
a little bit of a backhanded slight at the end,
but I will take it. One person writes, Matt, I
don't care how good of friends we were. If you
left me for my least favorite person, and I assume
that Louisville is Mark Stoop's least favorite person, I would
(28:37):
not be able to get over it. That's kind of
how I mean that I would get over it, but
I would be upset, and I think you should be upset.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
Stoops and Brahm, though they have a good relationship, right,
don't they Yeah, but.
Speaker 4 (28:53):
It doesn't matter if the person your wife leaves you
for you were friends with. That doesn't make it better.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
No, I'm just trying to justify.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
Yes feelings. It makes it worse.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
Try to just play stoops every once, dag if he's
ever gonna get over it, Well, he'll get over it.
Speaker 4 (29:11):
But I just don't think their relationship. I don't care
what they say. They can both say it'll be the same.
It won't be the same. And I know this. And
I have not talked to Vince on the phone yet.
I texted with him a couple times. I'll tell it
will he will regret this. He will. Whether he ever
says it, I don't know, but he'll regret it. He
(29:31):
will because it's not gonna be the same at Louisville.
Louisville is not the same as Kentucky. They're just not.
They're better than us at football right now, but its
terms of as a place.
Speaker 5 (29:42):
You know this.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
They don't care as much as we do. They don't.
The city doesn't revolve around the sport like it does here.
It's not gonna be the same. And Vince loves the glory,
yeah he does. And I'm not criticizing for that, but
he loves water talking in the ks bar and when
he comes in, he'd take a lap through the place
(30:05):
because he likes it. Like he likes that and and
that won't happen at Louisville. I mean at Kentucky, Vince
was the star of the football program. Would you agree
with that? He actually was. He was the star. He
was a bigger star than Mark. It will not be
like that at Louisville. The Broms are infinitely bigger stars
(30:28):
than every the Broms grew up there. There's been there
were like nine of them, So like it's it's gonna be,
it's a different thing.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
Vince, I think someday would like to be a head coach.
Does him becoming a general manager put him in as
it makes.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
You less likely to be a head coach? You're not.
He's no longer gonna be on the field, yeah right.
I mean he might go to practice, but that's not
his job anymore.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
I wonder if he if they thought that, he thought
that would help him get a head job.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
He could have had a head job before. I think
he would like to get a head job like at Kentuck.
But you're not gonna get your first coach. He's never
even been a coordinator. They're not gonna like uplift him
from tight end coach to to head coach. He could
have gotten a job at Bowling Green or can't state,
but he didn't want to do that. So it is
what it is.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
I just worry about him, man.
Speaker 4 (31:16):
I think he's gonna regret it. I think he'll have
a great time initially.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
Yeah, because they're gonna win, They're gonna probly have a
good seat.
Speaker 4 (31:23):
So let me give you an example what they're gonna do,
because they already did this yesterday. What was what this
guy tweeted out Baxley R j R. Who I don't
know who that is, but he's a very prominent like
he's been online, he's a prominent LOUISLL fan over the years.
He tweeted something he said, big dog texting Matt Jones
will have to stop once he officially begins that this gig.
(31:44):
I assume he has been communicated, that has been communicated
to him and he understands why. I'm gonna give you
a little secret that won't stop stop. That's just Vince like,
that's part of what comes with it and you guys
are gonna always worry that I'm gonna have an end
on your thing. By the way, you all got many
(32:06):
coaches that text me. I got a text from one
this morning, So you just need that ship has sailed
if you are trying to stop your coaches from texting me.
But he's always gonna have one foot in Lexington. He
just is. He loves his place too much.
Speaker 3 (32:20):
Yeah, you guys will text it.
Speaker 4 (32:21):
He likes you. You guys will continue, but it's not
it's gonna be me. It's gonna be other people he's got.
I mean, there's a prominent journalist who basically wrote a
script yesterday on Twitter that was Vince basically wrote it
right like a Kentucky part, Like that's what it is.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
You know, maybe not on Louisville Kentucky game week, maybe
there won't be much communication, but outside of that, of
course there's gonna be.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
And I would just say to Louisville, there are no
coaches I know of that are friends with Louisville media. No,
but there's a lot of Louisville like Louisville coaches. I mean,
remember who broke the Katina Powell, Like, who broke that
you guys were gonna have to forfeit. Your title was
me like you got you all still have leaky ships.
(33:04):
They're nice, but it's just what it is.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
So now that the announcement has become official, do you think.
Speaker 4 (33:09):
Mark Stews needs to he needs to say something today?
Well maybe, but soon, whether it's today or Friday or
next week, he needs he can't go silent until sec
media days. Who's up next, ship, Judy? Judy? I got
about a minute, go ahead, hey man to.
Speaker 6 (33:31):
Bid in to host you guys for your show this summer.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
Well, Judy, first of all, we're not doing that right now.
We'll probably do it either tomorrow or Monday, and then
you can put your bid in there. Okay, yesterday I
heard you say it was today. Okay, thank you, I
got it, appreciate it. Well, we won't need a speaker
to Judy's house.
Speaker 3 (33:56):
Judy about blue equipment at night?
Speaker 4 (33:59):
All right, that was a loud stop overpaying for sunglasses,
Ryan Liban and check out Shady Rays. Independent American owned
companies start right here in Kentucky. Premium polarized shades for
every activity running, fishing, biking, golfing. Shady Ray's the best
protection program in the industry with lost and broken replacements.
So go grab a pair of premium polarized shades at
Shady Rays. Tried the entire collection in person in Lexington
(34:21):
or in Louisville. It is Shady Rays or Shady Rays
dot com. Dan Skirka, the Murray State Coach, will be
on eleven thirty plus. We're gonna take questions from the crowd. Yes,
they have questions, they have questions. We will see what
they have to say right after this. This is Kentucky
Sports Radio work Back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio eight five,
nine two eight h twenty two eighty seven. So this
(34:43):
is this morning. At eight o'clock, Tyler Childers released his
first single from his new album, It's Gonna come out
July twenty fifth. This is not a new song. This
is Nose on the Grindstone, which is the very first
song Shannon I ever heard Tyler play in ams I
was just talking to a pilot who has flown back
and forth to Amsterdam, very first time I heard. I
(35:06):
walked into the bar and heard him sing. He was
singing this song and I went, dude, who's that? Yeah?
And uh, Now fast forward eight years later and he's
releasing it. Releasing a new album sounds like it's all
gonna be songs that are old that he's just never released,
which makes me very exciting because there's a lot of
(35:28):
those that I like, including like that Tulsa Turnaround song.
I love it him put that out. Tennessee Blues would
be a great window Naida. So uh, we'll see, but
it comes. But this is the only one that they've played.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
There's something about this song. It's very it's haunting, and
his voice just makes it resonated.
Speaker 4 (35:45):
Just and everybody in Kentucky that likes Tyler knows this
all absolutely like when he plays it rup the crowd
sings this uh huh. But I do wonder if the
people and the rest of the country know it like
we do, and they will here soon when this comes out.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
My twenty seven year old son, this is his favorite
Tyler Kilder song.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
It's one of mine, probably because it was the first
one I heard. So but Rick Rubin Shannon is gonna
be producing that album. He did albums with like Jay
Z and Doctor Dre and he's now also doing Tyler Child.
How about that.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
He's done yeah, albums all across like every genre of rock.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
Kind of every kind of music. Now you somebody wrote
me and you said you knew this. Brian Wilson wrote
songs with Charles Manson from the Beach Boys.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
There were a couple of songs that Charles Manson wrote
with the Beach Boys, and I think there was a
dispute es like who actually wrote the songs. If I
were the Beach Boys, I'd say, Charles, you could have them. Man,
just don't kill me. You have the songs, man, that's wild.
I didn't know that.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
All right. I have a quick story before we go
to the phone and ask your opinion. All right, do
you know the story about the Red Sox player who
claimed his dad played for the Yankees. Have you read this?
No so Hunter Dobbins. I don't know who that is,
but apparently he's a Red Sox player. He's been talking
a lot of trash for the yank against the Akka
and the Red Sox been playing the Yankees, and he said,
we're gonna beat the Yankees. My dad played for the Yankees,
(37:06):
but I would never play for the Yankees, and the
Yankees traded him and it taught me that uh to
hate the Yankees. Burber. But so he's made this whole
narrative around. I hate the Yankees because my dad was
there and they disrespected him. New York Post does the
story last night. His dad never played. Oh no, his
(37:27):
dad was never drafted by the Yankees. He never played
in the miners. This this seems like an odd thing
to lie about because it's pretty easy to eat out.
He played for the Diamondbacks for like a year and
a half but never played for the Yankees, And now
Yankees fans are just letting him have yeah that he
was like, you know, you had to lie that your
dad played for the Yankees. So they asked him about
(37:47):
it yesterday and he was like he basically threw his
dad under the bus. He basically was like, well, my
dad told me he played for the Yankees, which may
be true. So like, well, so I was gonna ask you,
do you believe the son made it up to create
this trash talking narrative or do you believe that dad
(38:08):
lied to him and said I played for the Yankees
when he really only played in the minor leagues for
the Diamondbacks. I'm gonna lean that way. You know, there's
a lot of dads this is from nineteen ninety six,
Like this isn't that long ago. It wasn't like he
was playing in the thirties, like this is like recent.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
A lot of dads in this room, myself included, we
often like to bragg in ourselves a little bit in
front of our boy, trying to make ourselves look a
little bigger than we actually are. I can see dad saying,
I play for the Diamondbacks, and yeah, I also played
for the Yankees, but they traded me.
Speaker 4 (38:36):
Yeah, Shannon, dad made it up, right, and now son
has to pay for the sins of the father.
Speaker 5 (38:43):
Right.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
I'm sure dad made it up. But I mean, you
could go back and research this. You could find out
you could verify whether or not your dad actually did
play for the Yankees.
Speaker 4 (38:50):
Like you said, it wasn't that long six, There are
records of it. Yeah, I feel like the dad is
too boy. The dad has to like protect his son
and go he so this whole trash talking, It was
actually the Dimondbacks I played for.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
If your dad, like my dad, played for the Yankees,
I would want to go look it up. Like I
know that kids aren't impressed by their parents, but come on,
your dad played for the Yankees. You didn't never go
back and look up his stats.
Speaker 4 (39:15):
But you would also like you wouldn't assume your dad
was lying. Right, My mom worked for the Harrison County
Commonwealth's Attorney, or so she says. But I didn't. I
didn't feel like I needed to go to the Harrison
County Prosecutor's office.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
To research it. To research it, you believe her at
her word, and I'm sure I hope.
Speaker 4 (39:36):
She's telling the truth because I always say that when
we go to Cynthiana, Karen Bond lived there. I bet
you did.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
Oh we bet to Many people said they used to
babysit you when you were in Cynthiana.
Speaker 4 (39:45):
There's a lot of them. Yeah, yeah, I don't think
that many people.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
But for the kid, I think he just takes daddy's
word and he just got caught.
Speaker 4 (39:53):
Now that he's become enemy number one for the Yankees
fans because of it. Who's next? Ship?
Speaker 2 (39:58):
All right, let's go to Steve Steve.
Speaker 4 (40:00):
How are you Steve doing great?
Speaker 5 (40:03):
Guys? Thanks for having me on. Uh, first of all,
you uh you missed one. VJ.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
Kennedy she's on like Fox News now or something, right,
didn't she like a right wing pundit at this point,
but she used to be.
Speaker 5 (40:18):
She's a libertarian. I don't know if you call it right.
Speaker 4 (40:21):
Now, i'd call that, but she but yeah, she was
on MTV back in the day.
Speaker 5 (40:25):
You're right, and yeah, she's on the Gutfeld Show a lot.
Speaker 4 (40:29):
So yeah.
Speaker 5 (40:31):
The second thing is, y'all, hey, guys, I love Gutfeld.
Dennis Wilson is the one that got the song from Manson.
Speaker 4 (40:44):
Wilson he was the brother.
Speaker 5 (40:49):
He was in the Beach Boys. He died in a
surfing accident, and he's the one that gave him the song.
But he hung out with uh Manson and all the
women because you know, that was a good situation for him.
But uh yeah, but the song and they put it
on their album.
Speaker 4 (41:05):
All right, well, I appreciate, appreciate the call. There you go.
I didn't know the history of h Charles Baytson. That
feels like something you would know a lot about.
Speaker 3 (41:13):
The I read that book, Helter Skelter. I was in college,
and it scared me to death. I would not go
down to my basement get you said, you.
Speaker 4 (41:20):
Haven't read any books, You've read Helter Skelp, Helter Skelter
do it also bind coom for those the things that
you like, spend your time readings.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
I had laundry down to the basement in my dorm.
I would not go down and get it from reading
that book.
Speaker 4 (41:32):
I was so scared. I don't know the book. What
does laundry have to do with it?
Speaker 3 (41:38):
Well, no, it was just down to the basement. I
didn't go down to the basement.
Speaker 4 (41:40):
In college, you wouldn't go into base Oh.
Speaker 3 (41:42):
I made my roommate get up and we took our
baseball bats with us go down to the basement.
Speaker 4 (41:46):
Yes, scared the crap about to you? Let me go
back second. You read a book, Yes, and it scared
you so much. Yes, when you were in college college, Yes,
in the door that you wouldn't go to the dorm
without a baseball bat, and my roommate took him with
me in his baseball bat. You are so strange. Scared
me to death. Is that not weird? That story? If
(42:08):
you tell me that story, I would understand. If you
were seven, I was like twenty helter skelter, Charles Manton,
that's some freak. Why did you read?
Speaker 3 (42:18):
We had to do it for a class.
Speaker 4 (42:19):
It was like a class thing.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
I would never read it. The class was that I
was used to be a criminal justice maker.
Speaker 4 (42:24):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (42:25):
I was gonna be a Kentucky state.
Speaker 4 (42:26):
You were gonna like solve cereal. We Oh yeah. I
don't know what changed my mind right there exactly. My
mom says, I did work for theirs. All right, Mom,
you better If Bourbon County starts making fun of me
about it, we'll take a break come back. I remember two.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
